Luckily, we’re coming out of those nasty winter months and back into the sweltering heat I know you all love! Recently we saw a few weird and wacky happenings, like the Pokemon Go craze, where our streets were flooded with super nerds glued to their phones and on the hunt to ‘catch them all’. Did you get involved? Our mate Ozzy Man did, in partnership with his buddy, Mozza. Follow their hilarious journey from page 10 in the Ultimate Guide to Smoko. Also in the Ultimate Guide to Smoko this month are some cracker clips to roll in with all the sporting-mania we’ve encountered recently, like wrestling and the Olympics! Also in this issue, we chat to tradie-turned-V8 racing pro, Scott McLaughlin, ahead of the Bathurst 1000! Can you guess which trade blasted Scott into the driver’s seat of a V8 Supercar? It’s more common than you think – head to page 14 to find out more! To wrap up, I feel obliged to let my Tradie friends know that I got a flat tyre the other day, and while I could’ve sat stranded on the side of the highway waiting for the next fella to pull over and help me, I managed to whip the crap one off and pop the new one on in under fifteen minutes. And no, I don’t drive a Suzuki Swift. Signing off with an extra shot of confidence,

Aly.

MYSTERY BOX RALLY CHALLENGES FUNDRAISERS WITH UNKNOWN ADVENTURE

I

n September this year, 150 fundraising teams will embark on an adventure of a lifetime, crossing mysterious landscapes armed with gaffer tape, cable ties and a whole lot of courage. Now in its fourth year, Mystery Box will take a convoy of 300 participants on a five-day unforgettable rally all in the name of a good cause, starting on 24 September. A light-hearted approach to a serious cause, Mystery Box, the mad baby brother of Shitbox Rally, is completely unique with teams approaching the starting point in Adelaide with nothing but their personal essentials. It’s a leap of faith as teams journey together out of their comfort zones to destinations unknown along some of Australia’s most deserted and scenic roads. The round trip offers a different challenge

to Shitbox Rally – fewer teams, shorter in distance and less days travelling, but no less daring as teams begin the rally without a car or any idea of where they are headed. But the mystery doesn’t stop there. With no knowledge of the vehicle or what’s under the bonnet, teams will bid on their dream mystery box based on their fundraising amount at a private auction the night before the rally starts. Box Rallies Founder, James Freeman explains this is an unorthodox approach. “With no need to source their own cars, anyone can join the rally and focus on what’s really important – fundraising whilst having fun.” To register or to find out more information, visit mystery-box.com.au

upported by the Victorian Government, the World Skills Competition will be held from Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 October at Melbourne Showgrounds. Close to 500 young apprentices, trainees and students from all corners of Australia will compete for the coveted title of ‘National Champion’ in over 50 skill categories, including Vehicle Painting, Bricklaying, Hairdressing, Programming, Cookery and Welding. Competing in the National Competition is part of the ultimate journey to greatness for these young competitors. In 2016 the scale of the National Competition will be significant. Over 40,000 spectators – including many school children considering their future career options – are expected to witness the competitors take over 25,000sqm of floor space – roughly the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 300 Judges, 100 Volunteers and $10mil worth of materials and equipment will make the competition possible. Dismantling of a data cable

D

esign and function work together in a unique way in the NEW KNIPEX ErgoStrip. The essential tool for all cables used in modern house installation. In the past, electricians needed a number of tools to dismantle and strip different types of cables. This means: full pockets and lots of hand movements.

KNIPEX ERGOSTRIP – A WORLD FIRST IN THE AREA OF CABLE TOOLS. The innovative pistol grip design, with patent pending provides space for additional functions, making it possible to combine the stripping of all common NYM cable with the dismantling of data cable and the stripping and dismantling of coax cable in a single tool. In addition, there is no need to change grip when dismantling.

FOR ELECTRICIANS, PLANT MANUFACTURERS AND FITTERS THE BENEFITS ARE ENORMOUS; TAPERED TOOL ENDS: • Enables dismantling in confined spaces • Ideally shaped for work on junction and distribution boxes

LOCATORS FOR STRIPPING: • KNIPEX has placed location ridges on the wire stripping holes so that the correct cable position for stripping can be found intuitively, even in the dark. ANGLED INSERTS: • The insertion points for coax and data cable are angled. With gentle pressure, cables slide into the correct position almost by themselves.

Dismantling of a NYM cable

LENGTH SCALE: • Dismantles and strips data and coax cable to the same length using the scale LENGTHWISE CUTTING FUNCTION: • NYM cables can be cut lengthwise conveniently and safely. This is ensured by the practical cable guide, where the cable is automatically pressed and fed against the guide hollows on the housing. This compact and robust universal tool is a further step to saying goodbye to heavy toolboxes, because here all the important tool functions are combined.

A

s a tradie, you’ll be well aware there are a tonne of things that can go wrong in the workplace. So how does a tradie protect themselves when things do go wrong?

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE

essential

insurance

for tradies!

If you’ve been on site or had a major contract you’ll be well aware of the “contractual” need for Public Liability, but have you ever wondered why the big deal. In a nut shell, if you’re found liable for any damage that occurs to property or another person as a result of your work, you could be up for thousands of dollars, hundreds of thousands or even more. Even if it’s not your fault – you could still rack up a hefty legal bill defending yourself. Consider the impact if a roof or floor that you’d been working on collapsed injuring someone, or you knocked a fancy piece of overpriced artwork over leaving it in pieces. Even worse, what if you accidentally electrocuted someone? Whether you’re an electrician, plumber, carpenter or other tradie; working on a construction site or in someone’s home, Public Liability Insurance will financially protect your business by

helping you pay any compensation and legal/defence costs for claims made against you should the proverbial happen!

TOOL COVER It’s likely you’ve collected a lot of tools over time. Have you ever stopped to work out the cost of replacing them if they were lost or stolen, or even accidentally damaged? Insuring your tools will ensure you won’t have to wear the expense of replacing them and could help you get back on site a lot quicker. You probably already know the drill but to make claims quick and easy, make sure you can provide proof of ownership by keeping your receipts, taking photos of your tools and keeping a record of the serial numbers. BizCover is Australia’s No. 1 online Business Insurance service, where comparing and buying insurance for tradies is quick, easy and costeffective. Scott McLaughlin is the youngest-ever V8 Supercar driver to win a Championship, which he nailed at the ripe age of 17. Scott is about to tackle another Bathurst 1000 race, in the hot seat for Garry Rogers Motorsport. He also has a pretty interesting trade up his sleeve, which might be part of the reason he is the professional driver he is today. We sat down for a chin-wag with Scott to hear all about it!

passion of mine - I enjoy it! I feel privileged to have a skill like that. I worked with race team during my entire apprenticeship was working on the car I was racing in the end, meaning the first ever car I drove as a professional, I also helped to build.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY IN RACING? I started racing when I was 6 years old in New Zealand, which is where I’m originally from. I started with go karts and I moved my way into Australia, racing karts here until I was 16. I was offered to test drive a Supercar in Queensland and then secured a contract for the 2010 racing year. After winning the 2011 championship I moved into the 2012 series and secured a place with Garry Rogers Motorsport racing Volvo, which have been in the event since 2014.

YOU COMPLETED AN APPRENTICESHIP WHILE ALL THIS WAS GOING ON - CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOUR TRADE IS AND WHY YOU DECIDED TO GO FOR IT? 14

SEPTEMBER 2016

WHAT’S IT LIKE BEING IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT OF A SUPERCAR ON THE DAY OF THE GREAT RACE?

My trade is in sheet metal fabrication and it basically gave me an introduction into motorsport because I could understand the tricks behind the trade of how to build a Supercar – so I can literally build my own V8 Supercar, which is cool and was the most appealing thing to

www.thetradie.com.au

me. If I wasn’t racing I would still love to be in motorsport and this is the best way to do it!

DO YOU STILL WORK ON THE TOOLS, OR WILL YOU BE IN THE FUTURE? Yeah, I have a lot of stuff at home that I still build and it’s a

It’s an amazing feeling! Bathurst for us is like Grand Final day, so it’s huge to be a part of when you’re lined up on grid, knowing 2.5 million people are watching the race. It’s a pretty cool feeling. It makes you very proud when you start the race. The lead-up events are awesome too, like the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide and the Gold Coast and Sydney races, which are the finals. They’re all massive events that we want to win.

WHAT’S THE VIBE LIKE AT THE TRACK ON THE DAY? Its wicked! The people are passionate supporters, just like footy fans! I enjoy the interaction with the fans on the day - their flags are flying and heaps of stuff is going on at the track on the day. If you haven’t been, it’s a cool thing to see!

was grown men coming up for autographs! So yeah, it was a bit weird! Especially when old kart racers who were also really good were asking you to sign for them!

WHAT’S THE SCARIEST OR MOST AWESOME THING YOU’VE EXPERIENCED WHILE RACING A SUPERCAR? The most awesome thing is the start of Bathurst on your first lap. In 2014 I led the cars and it was cool being to take the first lap leading, over the top of the mountain in front of 100,000 people on the track. It’s like kicking a goal at the Grand Final!

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE CAR YOU’LL BE DRIVING - OUR TRADIES WOULD LOVE TO KNOW THE SPECS!

IS IT WEIRD BEING SO YOUNG AND HAVING FANS? (Laughs) I’m 23 now but started when I was 19 and won a race - all that happened from then

>>

I’ll be driving a Volvo S60. It’s a V8 and has 650hp, clocking 300km per hour at the end of the Bathurst straight. It’s got 6 gears and is gutted on the inside, as with any race car. It used to be an ex-car shell but now it’s a proper racing shell from the ground up and is very light for the tonne and a half it weighs. T

OCTOBER 2016

After such an explosive end to the championship, 2016 promises action aplenty — and with other manufacturers keen to get a slice of the winning pie as well.

Each bike must weigh a minimum of 157kg without fuel and the maximum fuel tank capacity will be 22 litres.

The 1000cc four-stroke machines in MotoGP provide one of the most compelling spectacles in the world of motor racing, nowhere more so than at Phillip Island, where top speeds regularly head well north of 330km/h. In 2016 there will be five manufacturers competing — which will reach six in 2017 when KTM joins the grid — across 18 rounds. Eight different nationalities will be represented, including Australia's Jack Miller.

The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is a highlight on the Australian sporting calendar and the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit has seen both thrills and spills during its celebrated history and is a favourite amongst riders.

Some of the biggest names in MotoGP™ have reflected on what they love most about the Phillip Island circuit, their favourite corners of the track and also the Aussie animals they hope to see while they’re down under...

MARC MARQUEZ “Especially the last corners are really nice. Last corners, left corners, third gear, fourth gear.”

DANI PEDROSA

VALENTINO ROSSI “Very much 6, 7, 8 and 9 and the hair pin. All that part, so section three.”

“The last two corners are my favourite part. It’s all the time on the left and especially on the last corner you go up and then down along the main straight. It’s quite impressive to watch.” “I’ve seen a kangaroo and a koala. Usually the koala looks more calm than the kangaroo. I’m too scared about snakes.”

JACK MILLER “I love turn three. It’s unreal. I think turn four is pretty good as well. And racing, I love it up there. Definitely a fun circuit.” “I grew up in North Queensland, we’ve got the poisonous ones (snakes) up there.”

MAVERICK VINALES “It’s incredible. The first corner and also the last corner. It’s so incredible.” “I don’t want to find any snakes. Not even a spider”

Now is the time to grab your mates, snap up epic tickets and enjoy the ultimate MotoGP™ experience. How often do you get the chance to watch the world’s best riders fight it out at the scenic Phillip Island circuit?

SCOTT REDDING “I like Lukey Heights. You come in there, you can’t even see where you’re going. You come over the crest and down. That’s really my favourite part.” “I was going to hold a koala; they look like they’re friendly but on the same token they’ve just got something in their eye where I’m just not sure about it. So I try to stay away from Australian animals and I don’t really want to come across any spiders or snakes.”

JORGE LORENZO “Ah probably, it would be the last corner.” “Last year I saw a koala for the first time. Kangaroo, I saw one of the first years I came here. I like kangaroo more, because the koala is too quiet for me. No snakes.”

WHATTA LEGEND

DOIN’ TIME

- THEN TURNING THINGS AROUND When teens get into trouble with the law, some of them get let off lightly, but some don’t. What happens to the ones that end up in detention centres or prison? How can they turn their lives around when they feel abandoned by society?

W

e sat down with one of them… Stephen Cain is now a 59-yearold supervisor for Work for the Dole and creator of Empathy Not Sympathy, a program which provides services for those wanting to address issues like unemployment, addiction, crime, family breakdown and more, to be able to reach their full potential.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR HISTORY… I grew up in Moe in Victoria with my family and lost my way when I was about 12 years old. I started to steal and lie and ended up being made a ward of state and was placed into a boys home. At the age of 18 I had regretfully turned into a drug addict and alcoholic and I was institutionalised. I ended up in Pentridge Prison in Melbourne and I spent about 20 years in and out of prisons and rehabilitation centres. I had a go at getting into the trade’s industry previously

a dozen and their involvement in creating something from nothing and watching as gardens and areas change made them more confident and more excited and appreciative. I’m glad they were able to achieve something that they built, which will be there to last. And also, we didn’t call it Work for the Dole, we called our project Work for Pride, and that’s what they did. It was that excitement of being involved and leaving something good behind for the community that really showed.

IF YOU COULD SAY ONE THING TO THOSE IN TROUBLE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Never give up, nothing is impossible and follow your dreams. Just keep getting up every day and having a crack, mate!

T

WIN! Stephen in his younger days

in Victoria, having a go at carpentry and mechanics, but I wasn’t in a good enough place to be able to complete them at that time in my life. I came to South Australia 22 years ago to start a new life, where I gave up drugs and stayed out of prison. I finally got a job within the car trade where I became the manager of car yards and things progressed from there. Seven years ago I started my own business called Empathy Not Sympathy – I wanted to get people into further education to start doing something with their lives.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO TURN THINGS AROUND? The support of my mother and taking ownership of my life and my own decisions, and realising there’s more to life and that if I wanted something, I have to put in the work and go back to school. I went back to school in 1981 in prison and ended up with a certificate in small business management.

WHY DID YOU FIRST ASPIRE TO BE INVOLVED IN THE TRADE’S INDUSTRY? I’ve always been passionate about trade work and I took a position with Your Town as a Work for the Dole supervisor - we build pergolas and do paving and painting and stuff like that. I think it’s important

to let young people know that nothing is impossible. I want to see people achieve and grow and make sure they have something behind them. People that are struggling need to know it’s okay to struggle, as long as you get up each day and keep having a go. That’s the sort of passion that I have for it.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO COME FROM YOUR BACKGROUND TO NOW BE IN A RESPECTED POSITION AT WORK? It feels absolutely great! It’s something I thought would never be possible, to put my past behind me and be able to have respect from people from all walks of life. I think it’s important that we all receive respect, though. I’d like people to know that even with a troubled past and even if you’re a bit older, the past can be your past if you get up and keep having a go. You can overcome your mistakes.

In the new book, Doin’ Time (Rockpool Publishing, $29.99), author and general manager of Whitelion, Rachel Porter, shares the personal stories of nine Australian men from troubled backgrounds who got offered a second chance - and grabbed it. Facing up to their past, they’ve overcome the odds to become valued members of the community, with many of them now working with vulnerable young people as mentors, welfare officers, motivational speakers and community leaders. Doin’ Time is an important and powerful read that shows why we should always give people a second chance. Now available at all good book stores and online at rockpoolpublishing.com.au

HOW DO THE YOUNG PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH FEEL ABOUT GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE DIFFERENT TRADIE JOBS YOU DO? During the 6 months we were working together earlier this year we never had one person not turn up. We had a crew of about

Super and the gender gap

up to $500. Go to www.cbussuper.com.au to find out more and any contribution limits which may apply. And remember, adding a small amount to your super now can make a big difference later on.

Research shows that, on average, women are more likely to have less super when they retire than men. There are several factors which contribute to this. Women take more time out of paid work to have families, they’re more likely to work parttime and they’re paid less. Women also live longer than men which means it’s even more important that they have enough super to last their retirement.

So, what can you do to reduce the gap? First and foremost, make sure your employer is paying your super. The amount your employer pays is usually at least 9.5% of your regular pay. If you’re not sure whether your super has been paid, call us on 1300 361 784 to find out or check your account at www.cbussuper.com.au/mss

Fanelle (Apprentice & Tradeswomen Network) aims to increase diversity within the Australian trade workforce by increasing the overall percentage of women in trades by 5% before 2017 – visit www.fanelle.com.au

A not so super fact

■■

You can also:

In 2013/14 the average super balance at retirement for men was $292,500. For women, this figure was

$138,150.3

■■

Combine all your super together into one account. This’ll make it easier to manage and you’ll save on multiple fees. You can do this online at www.cbussuper.com.au/super/ consolidate-or-find-my-super Find your lost super. If you’ve been paid super into many different funds and your details have changed, your old super fund may have lost touch with you and transferred your super to the ATO. This money is called ‘lost super’, but it’s super you can still claim. Use the link above and we’ll show you how. Top up your super by putting in extra yourself. You can do this by paying more from your before-tax salary (salary sacrificing) or from your after-tax salary. An after-tax super contribution may see you eligible for the Government’s contribution of

Check your insurance. Most Cbus members will receive some cover for death and total and permanent disablement when they join. If you aren’t sure what you’re covered for call us or check online at www.cbussuper.com. au/mss Ask your partner or spouse to make a spouse contribution. They’ll receive a tax offset of up to $540 if your assessable income and total reportable fringe benefits for the financial year are less than $13,800. Visit www.cbussuper.com.au/super/ making-super-contributions for more information.

There’s a lot you can do to boost your super and retirement income and improve the quality of your retirement.

And if you need help, just give us a call on 1300 361 784.

Insurance Did you know that if you’re an Industry Super member you can increase your level of insurance cover when certain personal events occur? This is without the need to provide detailed evidence of your health. These events include getting married, giving birth (you or your partner) or adopting a child. You can also apply to increase your insurance cover if you take out a new mortgage (or business loan) of over $100,000 or increased an existing mortgage on your permanent residence (or existing business loan) by more than $100,000. Go to www.cbussuper.com.au/insurance for more information.

TIME TO STOP

TARPING stormseal rolls out ahead of storm season

S

tormseal is a new, state-of-the-art, patented material designed to seal buildings and roofs that have been damaged by storms or left open during construction. It allows builders to safely and quickly heat-seal damaged roofs or exposed wall spaces using a polyethylene film that instantly makes the area water and wind proof.

found to be more economical. With every part of the process considered, Stormseal rolls and accessories come in an lockable site box specifically designed for trades vehicles.

With severe storms becoming more frequent and damaging more properties, Stormseal inventor, Matthew Lennox, decided there had to be a more secure way than tarpaulins to protect damaged roofs.

“The impact of the new technology has already been felt, not only by residents who are able to move back into their homes sooner but also by tradespeople who are able to see the direct impact on their bottom line. Installing a product that guarantees property protection from further storm damage aids all parties, particularly the insurers and builders who are often liable if a tarpaulin flies away and further damage occurs” says Mr Lennox.

“I was overseeing repairs on behalf of the insurance companies and after each subsequent storm, we were forced to reattach tarpaulins on thousands of houses over and over again. And every time a tarp blew off there was further damage requiring another insurer assessment, quote and approval. I just thought there had to be a better way of doing things” says Mr Lennox. Stormseal is both lightweight and easy to install and can provide cover for up to 12 months while a house waits to be repaired or sections built. Compared to tarpaulins, Stormseal weighs less than one-third, requires less storage space, and has been

Thanks to a recent commercialisation grant, Stormseal is now being rolled out ahead of storm season with accredited training programs in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

Builders with medium to large companies, particularly with insurance clients, have an opportunity to expand their services by becoming certified installers and providers of Stormseal. The company is working with Pinnacle Safety and Training, providing 16 continual professional development (CPD) points for builders. With the yearly requirement of 12 points builders can secure

their license points in one day with the remaining 4 points carried forward to the following year. Mr Lennox believes that the more builders trained to install Stormseal, the better for everyone including homeowners. Training covers all aspects of understanding the Stormseal product, how to install it and related building skills required. To qualify you must have completed a working safely at heights (RIIWHS204D) course within a 24 month period before they apply and should put a day aside to conduct the training. Once completed and certified, you receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, which is nationally recognised. In addition you also receive a certificate and wallet card stating “Stormseal Accredited Installer” which can be shown to clients to prove you are fully trained. Group company bookings are recommended with a minimum of six to eight people, however smaller teams or individuals can enquire about next dates via the website.

Well, this went on for a while until the camp trainer came by… "What are you boys doing,” he asked. "We're diggin' a grave for this mule." "Donkey, dammit!" The trainer cut in, "…Boys, this isn't either one, it's an ass!" An hour later the camp commander came up and asked what they were doing. “What are you men doing, digging a foxhole?" ICEHOUSE Great Southern Land – it’s the glorious piece of the world we’re lucky enough to call our own, and it’s also an iconic Aussie anthem created by Icehouse back in the 80’s. The Tradie Magazine sat down with Iva Davies ahead of Icehouse’s 40 Years Live Tour to find out more about his take on rock music and the epic tour ahead… “Flowers”. By the time we were creating our own original songs we had a wide and live following and were picked up by an established group of managers who also managed The Angels and Cold Chisel. This lead to our first album “ICEHOUSE”. The band changed its name to ICEHOUSE and throughout the 80’s and early 90’s we enjoyed a successful recording and touring career, both locally and internationally. In the mid 90’s we suspended live performing, but reformed to play at the Sydney Sound Relief concert in 2009 and in 2011 we began to regularly perform again.

CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AS A MUSICIAN? I grew up in Wagga Wagga in New South Wales and both my parents were amateur musicians, but it was the local Scottish pipe band that caught my attention. At about 7 years old I learnt how to play the bagpipes. In high school we moved to Sydney and I ended up learning oboe and played in the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. At about 16 I auditioned for a scholarship, which I won. During my scholarship I performed with different professional orchestras, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. At around 13 I had also taught myself to play the guitar and performed in folk clubs and at festivals. This led me to my first experience of recording studios and I released two 45rpm singles through RCA in my late teens. Shortly after, I bought my first solid body electric guitar and amplifier, and then I met Keith Welsh - a local bass player and we formed the covers band

WHAT IS IT ABOUT ROCK MUSIC THAT GETS YOUR BLOOD PUMPING? There is something about the power of a good rock and roll band that is quite primal. I imagine it’s the combination of the power of amplified instruments and the machinery of a good drummer and bass player that is mesmerising. I was also fascinated by the technology involved as well. I started my career in a rock and roll band when there was an enormous explosion of new musical technology like synthesisers, drum machines and samplers, which gave me an exciting world of sound possibilities to play with as I wrote and recorded songs - so it was also the process of creating new music that got my blood pumping. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ICEHOUSE TRACK AND WHY? I suppose I would have to nominate Great Southern Land. I was completely surprised by the way people reacted to it straight away. I didn’t expect that reaction and I certainly didn’t think that people would still be responding to it the same way, nearly 40 years later.

WHAT CAN FANS EXPECT FROM YOUR UPCOMING TOUR? Fans can expect a great band. We’ve been playing together for a very long time and these guys are talented and experienced musicians. People that have been to past concerts have commented that we’re a lot more of a rock and roll band than they expected. We started out as a live band in the middle of the first wave of ‘punk’ bands in Australia’s pub music scene and the essence of that original rock band has never been lost in our live sound. We are also carrying a very extensive stage production for this tour, as well as a crew of the best sound, lighting and projection technicians in Australia.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR THIS KIND OF ANNIVERSARY TOUR? THE BAND MUST BE PUMPED TO GET THIS GOING? There’s always a lot of nervous adrenalin involved in the lead up to any performance and this contributes to the ‘edge’ of the band and performance. A milestone like the 40th anniversary of the live band will lift the band even more than usual. MOST OF OUR READERS ARE AUSSIE TRADIES AND WOULD BE HUGE FANS OF YOUR ICEHOUSE MUSIC, WHAT WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT DO YOU HAVE FOR OUR TRUE-BLUE TRADESMEN AND WOMEN OUT THERE? I’ve always been an admirer of any one who has mastered any kind of specialist skill. I think the discipline and practice that it takes to learn to play an instrument would be the same as what is required to develop expertise in a trade. When I come across a good trades person I always respect the skill they have, no matter what field it’s in. Icehouse will tour this October to celebrate 40 years rocking the country!
