LOYAL T R A D IE S , HELLO!

T

he Tradie is back for another ripper month and in this issue, the awesomeness is certainly not left out!

With summer upon us we’ve taken the chance to catch up with some legendary tradies who are making waves in their spare time. If being near the ocean sounds like your perfect summer escape, turn to page 18 to get a bit of ‘tradie envy’ under your belt. These fellas are surfing and fishing extraordinaires, and share with us their tips and tricks for getting adventurous out in the deep blue. We’ve also got some insider news on the upcoming Australian Open Golf tournament happening in Sydney this month; turn to page 14 to get golfing tips from Ryan Lynch, pro golfer playing in this year’s tournament. And if a day on the green isn’t your cup of tea, the Aus-X Open is also taking place in the coming weeks, so we sat down for a chat with Supercross Champion Dan Reardon to hear some of his gnarley stories on what it takes to do professional freestyle motocross, and of course, all the details on his lethal racing bike. Turn to page 28 for our chat with Dan. We also shout-out to all of our tradie sisters in this issue, featuring Rachel Dudok; an avionics aircraft maintenance engineer who works on the mother of all machines – the A380 Airbus. To read more about Rachel and to meet our other tradie ladies, head to page 20. And look at me, bragging about being able to change tyres like a pro and jimmying snapped keys out of lock compartments. It seems that as my confidence as ‘Miss Fix It’ develops, things just continued to break! What was it this month? Another flat tyre, and man, did this one need some elbow grease to come away from the front axle! Don’t worry, though - a bit of WD40 and a few swift kicks to the rim did the trick! Look at me go! Until next time…

Aly.

NUTS & BOLTS THE HEALTHY TRADIE PROJECT

"I'm bringing movement, mindfulness and real, whole food to construction sites, helping tradies to live their best life!". That's Pip Seldon's mission through The Healthy Tradie Project. Pip is a construction project manager, but it was the loss of her eldest brother, a carpenter, to suicide, that motivated her to create a health revolution amongst tradies. Pip’s philosophy for living the best life is, "It's about finding synergy between eating real whole food, movement and exercise, mindfulness, getting adequate sleep and time in the sun, plus active play – unwinding and, switching off from technology and routine. It's about bringing balance to our lives to be sure we are performing at our best both on and off the job." In her quest to build a healthy construction industry, Pip is taking her Tradie Mind Resilience & Power Body Movement workshop around Australia. "I'm opening the door to something probably foreign to most tradies – mind stillness and yoga." If you are an employer wanting to bring mindfulness and movement to your site, or a tradie ready to make a transformation to your life, check out www.thehealthytradieproject.com or contact Pip on pip@thehealthytradieproject.com

Of course, we can’t rely on anyone other than Ozzy Man to give us a recap of this crazy epidemic of psychotic, machetewielding clowns walking the streets. What are they trying to do exactly? GET ONLINE HUNTSMAN SPIDER VERSUS MOUSE u Australia is home to some pretty deadly wildlife; crocodiles, sharks, snakes – you name it, we’ve got it, and it’s big and will probably kill you. Most Aussies will be no stranger to the creepy-crawly huntsman spider; the not-so-deadly but definitely scary eight-legged arachnid. Mackay man Jason Womal clearly has an eye for the extraordinary, when he whipped out his camera and started to film a massive huntsman spider crawling up the side of a refrigerator with a dead mouse in its fangs. Dinner, sorted!

MORE TRADIES NEEDED TO HELP COVER STORM-HIT HOMES WITH NEW ‘SHRINK-WRAP’ TECHNOLOGY

A

fter devastating storms hit the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, more than 90 homes were protected by Stormseal; a new, state-of-the-art, patented material, designed to heat-seal buildings and roofs against wind and rain. With a spike in the number of happy residents and improved productivity, orders for Stormseal are flowing in from insurers and major building networks, however more fitters are needed to help meet the increasing demand. HomeRepair, a large insurance builder who have a license with Stormseal, contracted Nick Hatch from Insurance Roofing Australia to secure the storm-damaged homes in Victoria. Nick found that after subsequent bad weather hit the region they received no calls to re-secure homes fitted with Stormseal. “This is a product that really works but the challenge is to get more people accredited to fit Stormseal, especially as storm season is upon us. For Victoria we had to fly in 15 trained fitters from NSW and QLD to meet the demand,” said Mr Hatch. Stormseal inventor and Managing Director, Matthew Lennox, said the company is working with Pinnacle Safety and Training and offering Stormseal’s nationally accredited training programs to tradespeople, while Australian

her home after two massive gum trees crashed into the back of her house in the first storm.

“We need more people trained across the country as Stormseal will revolutionise the way tradespeople cover a house awaiting repair following a big storm, or during construction. It’s a method that can allow residents to stay in the house, or return home sooner, because it is a water and wind tight system and provides protection from further damage if storms continue. Our fitters are telling us that they get that “SES feeling” when they secure a home because the residents are genuinely happy,” he said.

“When the storm hit it was really scary as the wind was cyclonic. I heard the trees hit, taking out the study, the laundry, and my son’s bathroom and bedroom. The SES and insurance company were very busy, so it was a whole day and many phone calls until finally the next day I had the tree removed and many temporary tarpaulins installed, which was followed the next day by Stormseal. I found this was far more secure, protective, less noisy and neat. Stormseal has made me feel safe and secure in my devastated home.”

Mrs Sugi Wignesan from Upwey in Victoria is one storm victim that now has Stormseal protecting

www.thetradie.com.au

The idea for Stormseal came to Managing Director Matthew

“It has been a long process but now we are now underway, especially as the Australian Government recently awarded us a grant of $450,000 to fund training and taking the product further to market which will benefit not only home owners but insurers as well,” Mr Lennox said. Builders have an opportunity to expand their services by becoming certified installers and providers of Stormseal. Training provides 16 continual professional development (CPD) points for builders, and with the yearly requirement of 12 point, builders can secure their license points in one day with the remaining 4 points carried forward to the following year. If you are interested becoming Stormseal accredited or would like to find out more, contact Stormseal on 02 9599 3335. Training events will be held in Brisbane on the 14th November, and Melbourne on the 25th November. T

CONSTRUCTION

NEWS T

he residential construction industry in Australia has received some heartening news with the latest figures showing that building approvals remain at sky high levels, even as there are suggestions that the home building market will slow. On a seasonally adjusted basis, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicates that 20,788 new houses and apartments were approved for construction in August – slightly down from the blistering result of 21,170, but still the third highest level on record. Leading the charge was the multi-units sector, where approvals sit at near record highs of 11,313. Leading the way in terms of states, meanwhile, is New South Wales, where approvals (seasonally adjusted) sit at record highs and the combined number of approvals in July and August combined was up by almost twenty per

cent compared with the combined total of May and June. The latest data comes as the Reserve Bank has left interest rates on hold for another month.

Announcing its latest decision, Reserve Bank Governor Philip Low said that low interest rates had been supporting domestic demand in the economy but that stronger supervisory measures within the finance sector had strengthened lending standards, whilst housing market turnover and price growth had moderated. “Taking account of the available information and having eased monetary policy at its May and August meetings, the Board judged that holding the stance of policy unchanged at this meeting would be consistent with sustainable growth in the economy and achieving the inflation target over time, Low said in a statement.

Despite the bullish headline number, signs of an easing in some parts of the market continue. Whilst New South Wales is booming, approvals in South Australia and Western Australia are both at around their lowest levels in at least two years, whilst approvals in the more stable detached house sector came in at their slowest pace across Australia in nearly two years even as the more volatile multi-unit segment of the market continued to soar. That suggests that the pace at which new work is coming in is actually slowing outside of the statistically volatile multiunit sector within east coast markets. Finally, despite having risen in August, new home sales have general trended lower in recent months, another sign that conditions may be easing. T

Cobra’s new FLIPTOGGLE boasts twice

S

only requires a 13mm hole, can be used with any bolt length and due to its unique design, the toggle will never fall behind the wall. The back of the toggle is designed with two small teeth to secure its vertical position in the wall, ensuring you get maximum holding power, even in material as soft as drywall. Unlike other toggle bolts that spin around when fastening the screw and therefore sacrifice holding power due the toggle not being positioned vertically, the teeth at the back secure it into the wall

porting a new design that revolutionises the toggle bolt, Cobra’s FLIPTOGGLE is perfect for kitchen cabinets, electrical boxes, wall decorations and flat screen TVs. Whether you’re securing a bathroom fixture into drywall, a flat screen television into pine, or an electrical box into masonry, the new FLIPTOGGLE from Cobra is undoubtedly the most effective fastener for the job. Ideal for thick material, the Fliptoggle is twice as strong as regular toggle wings with the same bolt diameter. It

You can work on your putting and short game technique, in particular, distance control. Golfers need to play within themselves and not go for the hero shots, because they usually only come off once out of ten. Just play within your means and make sure you can laugh at yourself!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO HIT THE BALL? I try and keep my mind as blank as possible. By the time I get to that point I’ve done all the preparation I need to, so I just try and visualise the shot and react to it; a bit like snapping a footy through the goal posts. It’s all about reaction and having a blank mind.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A HUGE EVENT LIKE THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN? By the time the Australian Open rolls around I’ve already played 13 or 14 tournaments that year and have done all the hard work before it even beings. So I go in knowing I’ve done all that work and I trust the game and allow it to work and happen.

GOLF CLUBS ASIDE, HOW HANDY ARE YOU ON THE TOOLS?

greening out:

head in my early days surfing at Gunnamatta on the Mornington Peninsula. I was probably 13 and pretty new to the sport. A mate of mine insisted I'd be fine, so I made my way out into the lineup. Not paying too much attention, I quickly found myself on the inside section with what felt like the biggest set of the Morning rolling right at me! I paddled my little heart out trying to make it over the back, only to realise it was going to pitch right in front of me! I duck dived like I never had before, and despite that moment of calm where I thought I'd made it, I unfortunately got picked up, thrown over the falls and held down for what felt like an eternity! I didn't know which way was up or down! I head-butted the sand while swimming for the top and legitimately thought it was all over, but I eventually surfaced, only to cop three more set waves straight on the head. It’s fair to say I didn't paint the happiest picture on the beach, waiting for my buddy for the next two hours and I haven’t surfed Gunna’s since.

Where is your all-time favourite place to surf?

Dean Ipaviz D

ean Ipaviz is a 33-year-old tradie and surfingenthusiast who knows all about the perfect balance when it comes to work and downtime, and being based in Bondi, this bloke has things down pat! We had a chat to Dean about his talent as a tradie and learnt about the positive impact his work is having on the environment - and we also got all his tips to improve your surfing game!

What’s your background as a tradie? I've been involved with all different trades over the years. I did labouring for a landscaping company for two years when I was 18, moved into roof plumbing at 20, and then took up tree lopping for a year at 21. After that I did some travelling, then realised I needed to get qualified in something, so I moved to Perth and completed a mature-age apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery. I worked my way off the tools to become a successful Project Manager, but decided it wasn't for me, so submitted for my builders license and decided to start my own building company. I'm now back on the tools and loving every minute of it!

Summer is approaching and there’s no better place to be than the beach, can you tell us how

If you can deal with the crowds then there's just something special about sitting out the back of Bondi. It’s actually quite similar to San Sebastian, so probably those two and T-Street in San Clemente.

What should we be looking for when buying a board?

your passion for surfing came about? I was raised in Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula, so anything water-related came very natural to me. My mates all lived in Portsea, Sorrento Red hill or Point Leo, so if they weren't coming to my place I was at their place and inevitably, that involved surfing.

Many Aussies don’t know how to surf. Is there a trick to it our readers can try to hopefully master the art? Starting early definitely helps, but unfortunately it’s just time and practice. I still learn every time I go out; how to read the swell, and better ways of duck diving, crashing, falling, and dodging tourists! I've found skateboarding is the closest feeling to surfing, but then again, they are very different.

Where are some of the coolest places you’ve surfed? T-street and Trestles in San Clemente, Main Beach in San Sebastian, and probably Margaret River…

Do you have a scariest surfing moment? Absolutely! I distinctly remember copping a few on the

It’s all about volume and making sure you've got the balance right for your size and weight. It's far easier to learn on bigger boards and foamies are revolutionising the sport and allowing people of all ages, shapes and sizes to get involved, which is great. If you’re new to the sport, I'd suggest getting a lesson on one of those and if you love it, progress to a fiberglass board.

You also have a successful building business, Verdecon, can you explain how your passion for the outdoors and the environment are reflected in your business? We only started Verdecon this year and things are going really well. For the first time in my life I really love what I do and there is a real passion within me to imprint change. Our industry is so dependent on the environment, but we lack the foresight to change irresponsible practices that cause more harm than good. Without nature we don’t have the resources to help shelter a growing population, but as an industry we are one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and therefore, climate change - an equation that doesn't sit well with me. Our model is built around the concept of responsible building. We only use low to no VOC paints, solvents and glues, FSC certified timber, and empower people to make educated decisions about renewables, battery storage systems, solar, and implementing grey water systems into renovations and new builds. The more I research this stuff, the more passionate I become! T

Q. How do your mates react when you’re telling your fishing stories? A. Fishing stories get better each time you tell them! Rachel Dudok has the dream job of many, working as an avionics aircraft maintenance engineer on one of the biggest aircraft in the world; the Airbus A330, as well as some in a fleet of Boeing’s. What does it take to do such a unique job? We found out… TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR JOB… I completed an apprenticeship and have a Certificate IV and Diploma in Aeroskills (Avionics) as well as a B2 CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) Licence. There are three trade streams in Aeroskills; Avionics, Mechanical/Power Plant and Structures/Air Frame. I work on electrical, instrument and radio systems and their components on an aircraft.

HOW DID YOU END UP WORKING IN AVIONICS? I am a loud and proud ‘aerosexual’, or aviation enthusiast (laughs)! My love of aviation began with hearing stories from my both of my grandfathers who were in the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. During school I excelled in math and science, and ended up being an Australian Air Force Cadet. After completing high school, I did an engineering degree before deciding that being a professional engineer was not for me. I made the switch and completed an engineering apprenticeship and have never looked back!

20

NOVEMBER 2016

www.thetradie.com.au

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB? My favorite part of the job is troubleshooting a defect and following it through to completion to make it serviceable. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing an aircraft I have worked on, knowing that I have maintained it and that all the passengers will arrive at their destinations safely.

WE DON’T SEE MUCH BEHINDTHE-SCENES ACTION TAKING PLACE AS PASSENGERS OF THESE AIRCRAFT. IS THERE SOMETHING YOU KNOW AS AN ENGINEER THAT WOULD SURPRISE US? Most people don’t realise that every aircraft is checked and certified by an engineer before it’s released to fly. There can be

upwards of 200 people on board the aircraft at any one time and that’s a responsibility I never take for granted! We have very strict legislation to follow, and engineer’s and the organisation, are liable for any breach of these regulations. The penalties can be really severe and include large fines, criminal convictions and even incarceration.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE WORKING ON THESE AIRCRAFT? The biggest challenge, apart from the scale of an aircraft, is that we’re constantly learning and evolving as new technology, processes and aircraft are introduced. We must also remain up-to-date with training, regulations and policies before we can work on an aircraft.

WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR THOSE WANTING TO GET INTO YOUR FIELD OF WORK? Aviation is really competitive, so the best advice I can give you is pick a trade stream within Aeroskills that interests you the most. I’ve found that if you choose an area you enjoy, you’re more likely to excel! T

ave you ever been in a situation where a client, supplier or employee had one idea of what is expected in a job and it was completely different to what you had pictured? You are not alone. Unfortunately scenarios like this happen frequently, especially when there is unclear communication between parties. The key point is; ‘Disappointment happens when there is misalignment of expectations’. This costs your business money, causes frustrations, and leads to an unpleasant work environment. Poor communication can happen with clients, suppliers and with employees/contactors, so in setting

up simple structures these relationships can avoid most challenges down the track.

ensures that the correct message is understood, leaving little room for error.

A key point to understand is that each of us processes information differently. The three main ways that humans process information and communication are verbally, visually, and kinesthetically, and each of us has a different mix.

Here are some key points that will help you to create some clearer communication structures moving forward.

• Visually is when we see information and process it through our eyes • Verbally or auditory is when we hear the information and process it with our ears • Kinesthetically is when we engage in a tactile activity to gain understanding The ability to combine all three of these

1) Begin with the end in mind. Be clear and up front with whoever you are communicating with in what you are looking for that will achieve great outcomes for both parties. You will have an idea of what the end result needs to look like, however, ensure to ask the other party what their expectations of the relationship is as well. Just because you have been working in your industry for a period of time does not mean that everyone you Continued on Page 24

connect with will be on the same wavelength as you. You want to avoid ‘management by mind reading’ as much as possible. Also, ‘checking in’ with your client will assist in creating clarity around what the end result is to look like. 2) Document the expectations in writing. Ensure you put in writing, what each party is responsible and accountable for. Include the topics; what, how, by when, and by whom. The content of the document needs to be clear, ideally in point form, using minimal industry ‘lingo’ and acronyms, and signed off by all parties. You may wish to include how disputes will be handled, should they arise. In some communication breakdowns the argument can become personal. To avoid this situation, always have as much of what is agreed to in writing, because then the disagreement is between the individual and what was written, not between two people/personalities. You are better off having too much in writing than not enough. Obviously you want to avoid creating a huge legal document, so look to cover what is expected by both parties in less than two pages.

“The extra work that you put into your communication upfront will reduce headaches, hassles, time, energy and money wasted in managing any conflict moving forward.”

3) Set up a regular communication schedule. You are better off overcommunicating and connecting than under communicating. Short, scheduled meetings at regular intervals either over the phone, via email, or even in person will keep projects on track. Think of these meetings as your GPS system, giving you feedback as to whether you are on track or off track. You have a destination (outcome) in mind and these catch-ups are ensuring that you and the other parties are on track on achieving the desired outcomes.

A few other things…

experienced you become, the easier it is to

Check in on how the other party prefers to be communicated with. Today, we have many personal communication mediums like phone, email, in person, SMS, and so on, so it is important to gauge how the other party best likes to be communicated with. This way you can ensure that you are communicating in the format that is best suited to them.

identify potential hard-work-clients up front.

But... there will be a small percentage of cases where the other party is never happy. You can’t please all people all the time. If you have in place the steps above and the other party is still not happy, then often it is never about you. These are the types of clients that you then put on your “never to work with” list. Remember, at the end of the day, you get to choose who you work with and the more

that you put into your communication upfront

In summary, avoiding dispute resolutions comes down to ensuring that the expectations by both parties are aligned. Explaining this up front to your client, supplier or team player creates the right context for a smooth transition in a relationship moving forward. The extra work will reduce headaches, hassles, time, energy and money wasted in managing any conflict moving forward. here’s no doubt that without your tools you wouldn’t be able to work, so they need to be protected. All too often tradies are a target for thieves looking for a quick score., and while you’ll never be able to prevent thieves from attempting to steal your tools, there’s a few simple things you can do to protect them and your business.

KEEP THEM SECURE

Keeping your

tools safe

It might seem obvious, but it’s easy to get complacent and leave them lying around. Tools that are not being used should be put away securely and out of sight from would-be thieves. If you have a ute, invest in a bolted down toolbox with solid hinges and a heavy duty lock. At the end of the day, take them home and only leave them in your vehicle if it’s kept in a locked garage, or remove them from your vehicle and secure them.

MARK YOUR TOOLS Marking or engraving your tools will as act as a deterrent as it’s harder to resell them if they can be identified, as well as helping you to keep track of them on a

worksite. Engraving them also makes it easier to recover them if they are stolen, as it can assist the police with tracking you down as the owner.

TOOL INSURANCE Most of us don’t have the cash on hand to replace our tools immediately if they are stolen or even damaged, so the best way to ensure you’re not left high and dry is to insure your tools.

MAINTAIN AN INVENTORY When it comes to making a claim, most tradies don’t realise the true cost of replacement until it’s too late, so make sure you have the right level of cover and can make a claim quickly by keeping an inventory of your tools (including serial numbers, photographs and receipts). JOKE

OF THE MONTH A young girl was writing a paper for school. She went to her father and asked, “Dad, what is the difference between anger and exasperation?” The father replied, “It is mostly a matter of degree. Let me show you what I mean.” The father went to the telephone and dialed a number at random. To the man who answered the phone, he said, “Hello, is Melvin there?” The man answered, “There is no one living here named Melvin. Why don’t you learn to look up numbers before you dial…” “See,” said the father to his daughter. “That man was not a bit happy with our call. He was probably very busy with something and we annoyed him. Now watch...” The father dialed the number again. “Hello, is Melvin there?” he asked. “Now, look here!” came the heated reply. “You just called this number and I told you there is no Melvin here! You’ve got a lot of guts calling again!” The receiver slammed down the phone. The father turned to his daughter and said, “You see, that was anger. Now I’ll show you what exasperation means.”

Dan Reardon is a 31-year-old professional motocross athlete who’s spent his fair share of time on the tools. Dan is preparing for the upcoming Aus-X Open happening in Sydney this month, so he sat down with us for a chat…

DAN’S JOURNEY IN MOTOCROSS “I started racing at a very young age, at around five years old, and then turned professional when I was 16. By the age of 20 I had won five Australian supercross and motocross titles and then moved to the grand stage; the United States. I raced for a high profile team over there for five years and then retired from the sport at 26. After that I spent three years without even touching a motorcycle and then returned to racing when I was 30. I won the Australian Supercross National Championship upon my return last year.”

IT’S ALL ABOUT PREPARATION “Preparation involves a lot of bike time; cycling, mountain biking, and time in the gym too. Every facet of fitness needs to be continuously worked on and improved, otherwise you’ll fall behind the competition. There isn’t really a ‘rest’ day in this sport, even on weekends. Every day incorporates some kind of training or riding, so it’s definitely a fulltime job from the time we wake up to when we sleep. It all affects how you’ll feel the next day and so on.” 28

massive stuff like that. Distance was 150 feet and the height was about 3-4 stories up, so any mistake from that height and it’s game over.”

HIS TIME ON THE TOOLS

THE BIKE SPECS “The bike I race is a CDR Yamaha YZ 450F and has a lot of aftermarket GYTR parts. It’s definitely not your standard engine because we put different clutches and mods in it. The bike also has Factory KYB Suspension to perfectly suit my weight, height, technique and preferences, which is critical and something that we’re always trying to perfect. We have specifically made Dunlop tyres and there are also Factory Performance parts from Pro Circuit– so it’s heavily modified for us to go and win championships on. The word ‘Factory’ basically means it’s not available for public purchase. The part just comes straight to us from the factory.”

DAN’S OWN TOYS “At the moment I’m really into my mountain biking! But I do have

a drift car too, so when I have time off I’ll go down to the track - that thing is pretty awesome to have a good time in (laughs)! I do a lot of shooting, too. I have a handgun, a couple of shotguns and that sort of stuff, and love going to the range. So yeah, bit of stuff going on!”

OUCH, THE INJURIES! “I’ve ruptured two ACL’s, dislocated both shoulders multiple times, torn my diaphragm, broken a bunch of small bones; arms, fingers, ribs, feet and toes, had multiple concussions, and had lots of ligament and tendon damage. You know, all the good things that hold the body together!”

BIGGEST BIKE JUMP “I think the biggest I have done was around 150 feet. That was out in the hills of California, which is the perfect place for

“I have had time on the tools in two different jobs. I was a brickies labourer because my parents owned a bricklaying company, and I worked in the mines for a period of time as well. I can confidently say that being brickies labourer is the worst job in the world, the absolute worst labouring job in the world (laughs)! I don’t care what other labourers say otherwise, it is the worst labouring job! Also, at the mines I was putting HV cable in the ground and I was the trusty old trailer operator and cable puller!”

TRADIE-MATE SHOUT OUT “Stu ‘Spaghetti’ Cali; he was my supervisor out west (laughs)! T

The heavy-duty Ampfibian MAX provides a weather-sealed 15A outlet with an RCD circuit breaker and 10A lead so you can safely and legally plug in to 10A outlet. A lot of 15A tools don’t need 15Amps to run or only draw above 10Amps when really pushed, so after a motor’s start up surge has passed, or when a welder is turned down a little, 10Amps will do just fine in most cases. While a higher rated breaker protects most 10A circuits, the individual outlet is only rated to 10A. That’s where the fire starts. With a 10Amp 2400W breaker, the Ampfibian MAX will save you the embarrassment of tripping the whole circuit - the RCD breaker will trip first, keeping everybody else on site happily powered.

AMPFIBIAN DELIVERS A 1-2 PUNCH FOR WORK-SITE ELECTRICAL SAFETY I

f you are using power tools and equipment in the great outdoors or in wet environments, you’ve probably wished for a weatherproof connection for your power leads at some time. Ever had someone trip over an extension lead and bring your work to a grinding halt? Annoying isn’t it? Well, the good people at Ampfibian feel your pain and have developed a neat solution that no tradie’s tool box should be without.

Built for the toughest conditions, the brand new Ampfibian X1 Extension Lead Protector makes annoying disconnections and dangerous short circuits a thing of the past. Connect your power leads together and clip the housing closed. Simple. The built-in spring-loaded cleats grip the leads and not the plugs so not matter how hard you try, the plugs stay connected, so you can keep working. Protect yourself and your equipment in situations where water can come in contact with your power leads. Whether you are hosing down a work site, using a pressure

washer, or simply hooking up some party lights. Rely on the Ampfibian X1 with its commercial-grade impact resistant body and weatherproof sealing to keep your connections bone dry. The Ampfibian X1 highlights: • Fits 10A & 15A leads up to Ø12mm • Weatherproof to IP-55 – can be hit directly with a water jet from a hose • Designed, made, tested and independently approved in Australia to Australian Standards • Vice-like anti-disconnection feature for the leads If your work requires a 15A power tool and all you have is a 10A outlet then don’t forget the original trade tough Ampfibian MAX. Gone are the days when you had to modify a 15A extension lead to fit in a 10A socket. This old-fashioned “solution” is dangerous, illegal, invalidates your insurance and will get you kicked off site. There’s no excuse. Don’t risk it!

Having a weatherproof power adaptor might seem overkill to you – after all, you can’t keep using power tools when it’s raining. But it’s great to have a weatherproof unit when you are washing down the work site after a messy day. Anywhere power tools and water are involved you need the weatherproof Ampfibian MAX. A great-looking and valuable item like the Ampfibian MAX might be a little too tempting for others to leave well alone. You don’t have to worry about this because you can firmly secure it using the built-in stainless-steel security bracket. Attach a padlock with chain or a crimped security cable. The Ampfibian MAX highlights: • 240V 15A to 10A adaptor • RCD protection • H-Class for trade and commercial use • IP-55 hose & weatherproof • Fits extension leads from 7-12mm diameter • Vice-like anti-disconnection feature for the lead • 10A 2400W circuit breaker • Stainless steel security bracket • Standards approved You can also protect yourself on site with one of the Ampfibian Hellbender® heavyduty fully flexible 15A extension leads. These are great for trade use as they are made with real rubber which makes them extra tough, wear resistant, waterproof, and best of all you can wind them up tightly for easy storage no matter how hot or cold it is!
