Yes!! Models don’t have to be rail thin anymore!!! They use woman who are a variety of sizes/ ethnicities and it’s so beautiful!
ANY ADVICE FOR MODELS TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE INDUSTRY?
Stay away from modeling schools. They are a waste of money. Find a reputable agency close to you (Google is very helpful) …go to one of their casting calls or apply directly through their website. There may be a lot of “no’s,” but it only takes one “yes!” .

PARKSIDE RESTAURANT
This Downtown Raleigh gem doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves. It has become my personal go-to for Brunch in the Downtown Raleigh area and I want everyone to know about it!! This casual spot is located at the entrance of the Warehouse District and you’ve probably passed it many times without even noticing it. This spot is the perfect place to catch up with friends and enjoy a top notch meal. Their Fried Chicken Biscuit Bowl with Jalapeño Gravy is not just my favorite meal at Parkside, but one of the best meals I’ve EVER had in my lifeeeeee. You must get it this weekend. Please & thank you!
PECK & PLUME
Any Downtown Cary fans here? You’ll want to stick around for this one. Located within Mayton Inn is the newly redesigned restaurant, Peck & Plume. “Peck & Plume is where those of a feather come to roost.” This modern American spot had me captivated by its stunning interior design and exciting menu. During brunch you can enjoy red eye barbeque shrimp & grits, a smoked salmon scramble, a bakery basket, and more. Just remember to get a Mayton Mimosa, trust me.
Photo by Parkside << Photo by Peck & PlumeJACK TAR & THE COLONEL’S DAUGHTER
Next, let’s make our way to Durham! One of my favorite brunches can be found in Bull City at Jack Tar & the Colonel’s Daughter. I adore this restaurant’s modern design and it is in a great location if you’re spending the day exploring Downtown Durham. They serve up brunch every Saturday and Sunday and here are the 3 things I need you to order: the pancakes (in the top 3 best I’ve ever had!!!!!), the burger, and the cruellers. Order these three items plus a Targarita and you’ll have yourself the Jack Tar experience, Anna Haddock-style.
COQUETTE
Get ready to be transported to Paris! Whisk yourself away to find French cuisine and a beautiful atmosphere within North Hills at Coquette. Their detailed interior, excellent service, and delicious eats has made this a spot I frequent often and it never disappoints. During their weekend brunch, you should try the newness being served in the pastry basket and their quiche which is rated one of the best in town. I can never leave without their brussels sprouts and truffle fries as well, no matter time of day.

To know me is to know that I am currently obsessed with Fenton. I’m so excited about the cool spots that have opened there and Superica is one of them! Superica is a delicious Tex Mex restaurant with a vibrant space, flavorful food + drinks, and a beautiful patio to enjoy during the warm weather! It looks out onto the Fenton lawn where there’s always something exciting happening. They serve a delicious brunch on the weekends featuring Huevos Rancheros, Tamales & Eggs, Hot Cakes, as well as their full normal menu. I always go for their enchiladas which are fantastic.

CHANCE EAU TENDRE
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre is the most subtle fragrance of the house Chanel. This exquisite and feminine scent features a combination of grapefruit, jasmine, and white musk. It is light, airy, and perfect for a spring day. Chanel Chance Eau Tendre is a lighter, fresher, and more youthful version of the original Chanel Chance fragrance. Its delicate scent evokes a sense of softness and feminity. It has become a popular choice for women of all ages who understand the everlasting elegance of Chanel.
SPRING SCENTS
FIVE MESMERIZING SCENTS OF SPRING THAT FEEL FRESH, AIRY, AND DELIGHTFUL.
MARC JACOBS DAISY EAU SO FRESH
It is a delightful, fun, and bubbly fragrance. You can consider it the little sister of the original best-selling Daisy Fragrance by Marc Jacobs. It starts with a burst of citrusy notes followed by sweet and juicy scents of raspberries and pears. The floral heart notes add a delicate touch of feminity. It is a perfect choice for the spring and summer months as it is bright, airy, and playful.
DOLCE & GABBANA LIGHT BLUE
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is a clean and refreshing scent. It is a fantastic choice for everyday wear. Its top notes include Sicilian mandarin, Granny Smith apple, and bluebell, while the heart notes are jasmine, bamboo, and white rose. This perfume does not overwhelm the people around you. But the scent is still noticeable and is ideal for wearing in office and professional settings. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is a unisex fragrance and can be worn all year round. Overall, it is light, airy, and feminine, making it the right choice for women in Spring.
JO MALONE PEONY & BLUSH SUEDE
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede is a lovely fragrance that combines floral and fruity notes with a hint of suede. Its top notes include red apple, peony, and jasmine, while the heart notes are rose, carnation, and suede. This fragrance is very feminine and romantic. The peony and apple notes in Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede add a subtly sophisticated touch. It does not overpower the individuals around you and is a beautiful choice for Spring and summer.
GUCCI BLOOM
Gucci Bloom is a versatile floral fragrance designed to capture the spirit of today's modern, diverse, and authentic women. It is a light and beautiful scent that is not too overpowering or too subtle. It opens with top notes of jasmine bud, tuberose, and Rangoon creeper. The heart notes include orris and Damascena rose, and the base notes consist of jasmine sambac and benzoin. Gucci Bloom is ideal for everyday wear in Spring and summer. It is also suitable for special events like weddings or parties, as it's a feminine and elegant fragrance.
HI Anna, a girlfriend of mine recently got an eyebrow lift and it was the most amazing transformation!! I have been getting botox and now thinking that this might be the better option for me based on her results. I am curious about a few things though - How long does a lift last and does it eliminate the need for botox in the forehead? Lastly, how long does the procedure take and how Long is the recovery time? Thank you so very much. Christina
Hi Christina! We have been loving the results that we see from brow lift procedures, both surgical and non-surgical. When it comes to restoring a youthful appearance, these procedures are fantastic at lifting the brows and making the eyes look more alert and refreshed! Brow lift surgery is best performed by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and involves removing excess skin in the forehead to lift the brows and reveal a patient’s natural vibrance. This is typically an outpatient procedure that will require anesthesia, but the procedure itself is relatively quick and the downtime is very manageable. Most patients are able to get back to work within a week of the procedure, though there may be some swelling and bruising still present. In terms of non-surgical options, a Sofwave™ laser treatment could provide visible results without surgical excision. Sofwave™ delivers precise heat to tighten and lift the skin, and is one of few modalities that is FDA-cleared for lifting of the brow. We love this treatment because there is no downtime, but be sure to keep in mind that since you are stimulating your body’s own collagen, full results will be seen 2 to 3 months after treatment. In regards to Botox®, I’d recommend keeping your standing appointment. These procedures are great for listing and correcting lax skin, but are not designed to combat texture concerns. The fine lines in the skin may relax a little bit from a brow lift, but Botox® is your best bet to make sure that new wrinkles are prevented from forming. As always, a consultation with a qualified provider will help determine the best course of action for you. Thanks for your question!

room changers
You don't need to be a master designer to make your home look stunning. In fact, all it takes is a few smart styling updates that can instantly elevate your decor.Whether you want to spruce up your living room, bedroom, or office, we've got you covered!
We’re talking about small additions that go a long way. Items like rugs, plants, artwork, those types of things. The best part is they won’t put a dent in your wallet either. We’ll explore five handy items that you can use to instantly upgrade any space.
Add Warmth With Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are one of the easiest, most affordable ways to change up your room decor. Sure, they look cozy and inviting but additionally, they add texture and color. Choosing different colors or patterns can help you adjust the vibes of a room instantly. Not sure what kind to get? No worries! Have fun with it and choose a variety of styles:
•Solid-colored for a more classic look
•Geometric for a modern taste
•Embroidered for an added touch of personality
•Velvet for extra coziness
•Mix them up or keep it consistent either way, you can’t go wrong with throw pillows in your arsenal of home decor items!
Refresh Your Living Room With a New Rug
When it comes to instantly transforming your home, look no further than a new rug. As one of the biggest objects in your living room, a contemporary rug can set the tone for the entire space. Not only will it pull together any mismatched furniture pieces, but it will also make the room feel brighter and more warm. Get inspired by selecting a charming pattern or texture that will instantly amplify your decor. If you're feeling a bit bolder, dare to try an unexpected color that wall art can't provide you won't regret it! Finally, remember that with so many different sizes available, there's a perfect rug for every space.
Statement Walls With Art and Decor
Statement walls are a great way to add interest to your decor and make your home feel more like you. If you’re not sure where to start, here are five helpful tips:
•Stick to a few colors that you love or pick tones that coordinate with the rest of the decor. That will give your statement wall a cohesive look.
•Add texture with materials like wood, fabric, or metal elements that draw the eye and add interest.
•Choose art pieces that reflect your unique personality or hobbies. Whether it’s an expressive oil painting or a bold photograph, let it speak for who you are as an individual and how you want your space to be seen.
•Remember, less is more! Select fewer pieces that break up the wall without overwhelming it so everything still looks cohesive when hung together. When used correctly with good design in mind, statement walls can instantly take any room from dull to stunning in no time at all!
Brighten Up With Lighting Fixtures
When you're looking for an easy way to improve your decor, lighting fixtures are your friend. Not only do they provide the light you need, but they also add a visual appeal to any room. Whether you want something modern and striking or something delicate and classic, there are a ton of options out there to fit your style. Here's how you can use lighting fixtures to instantly upgrade your decor:
Statement pieces
If you want something that will really stand out in the room, then statement pieces are the way to go. Look for oversized pendant lights or unique chandelier designs that will immediately draw the eye in. Don't be afraid to be experimental with brighter colors or interesting shapes just make sure it ties in with your existing decor as well as any potential upgrades you have planned.
Ambient lighting
Ambient lighting can also be a gamechanger when it comes to spicing up any room. Think of recessed lighting, wall sconces, and other indirect lighting options that can give off enough light without being too bright. This kind of lighting is softer and more inviting; perfect for when you want something subtle but effective.
Dimmer switches
When all else fails, adding a dimmer switch is an easy fix for instantly upgrading your decor. This lets you adjust the light intensity so that you can create specific moods depending on the occasion or season perfect for creating cozier vibes.
Introduce Greenery
Introducing some greenery into your home can be a great way to instantly upgrade the look and feel of your decor. Plants not only add a touch of vibrant colors, but also purify the air score!
Here are some ideas for introducing greenery into your space:
•Hanging or wall planters - You can use these planters to grow trailing plants, or even herbs that you can use in the kitchen.
•Mini terrariums - Some terrariums can make excellent statement pieces as well as a home for plants.
•Pot plants - If you want something lowmaintenance, go for succulents or cacti in stylish pots.
•Shelf displays - Using shelves to create a hanging garden is another great way to introduce more greenery into your decor!
•Window sill boxes - Place some of your houseplants on the window sill, where they'll get plenty of light but won't take up too much space.

MICHAEL RICHARDS: ARE YOU DOWN?
March 4–July 23, 2023
2110 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607
(919) 839-6262
ncartmuseum.org
Michael Richards’s visionary sculptures and drawings, created between 1990 and 2001, engage Blackness, flight, diaspora, spirituality, police brutality, and monuments in his largest retrospective to date.
Michael Richards: Are You Down? takes its name from one of the last artworks the artist created.
In his sculptures and installations, Richards gestures toward both repression and reprieve from social injustices and the simultaneous possibilities of uplift and downfall, often in the context of the historic and ongoing oppression of Black people. Flight and aviation were central themes for Richards as an exploration of freedom and escape, ascendance and descent. These themes are especially evident in Richards’s engagement with the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, including his well-known sculpture Tar Baby vs. St. Sebastian (1999)—a version of which has been on continuous display at the NCMA since 2003.

SAVING MONEY DOESN’T MEAN MISSING OUT ON YOUR FAVORITE FOOD.
Buy Smart!
Going shopping these days feels like we’re all in survival mode. What’s going on with those prices? And although things are not all that bad, spending your money wisely pays off. The question is, what are the best grocery items to splurge on? Which to avoid?
Here are a few items worth buying in bulk and others that are not worth the trouble. Of course, we all have different diets and like different things, but we’re sure you’ll get the idea. After all, we all want to eat better while saving a few bucks! .
Frozen Veggies VS Fresh Produce
Buy high-quality Olive Oil VS Salad Dressings
Olive oil is the healthiest cooking oil out there and a critical element of the nowfamous Mediterranean diet; it is delicious too! The thing is, inexpensive olive oil is not worth the hype, while premium extra-virgin olive oil is a bit pricey but totally worth it. Especially if you use it to make your own salad dressings (combining it with lemon juice, vinegar, dried herbs, mustard, etc.)
Avoid bottled salad dressings; the stuff has just too many artificial ingredients. And yes, ranch is delicious, and so is that glossy Italian dressing, but they’re bad for you and overpriced.
Frozen food is always more expensive than its fresh counterpart, despite being basically the same thing, and that goes for meat, fish and veggies alike. And although some items are only available frozen, many others are common in every supermarket.
Instead of buying a bag of chopped veggies, buy a couple of carrots, potatoes and broccoli. Peeling and chopping veggies at home is not as hard as you think; it’s fun if you put on some music — prep work is part of cooking — Are you sure you want to pay more than twice for the same greens?
Save on frozen food and purchase fresh items instead. And, whatever you do, stay away from canned veggies; ounce for ounce, they’re even more expensive, and they’re all mushy, anyway.
Splurge on Store-Brand Staples VS Fancy Brands
Pantry staples, including pasta, rice, tomato sauce, milk, spreads and seasonings, should make up most of your shopping list. This means that these everyday items are an easy way to save money. How? By purchasing store brands. Everyone may know this already, but store brands are often produced by the best-selling brands for the category, so the product is exactly the same. Store brands are also less costly than their ‘original’ versions. Some supermarkets, like Trader Joe’s, capitalize on store brands, while others keep their in-house products discrete. Either way, buy the good stuff and don’t mind the brand.
Splurge on Typical Convenience Items VS Convenience Stores
We all stop at 7-Eleven every other day to buy drinks or snacks. Convenience stores are indeed ‘convenient,’ but they’re much more expensive than supermarkets. If you’re like us, a large chunk of your paycheck goes to necessary and not-so-necessary items from convenience stores. Why not bulk buy the same items at the supermarket and save some money?
Save up to thirty percent on cookies, chocolates, potato chips, soft drinks and beer by buying them when you go grocery shopping, and avoid convenience stores altogether. Convenience comes at a price.
Written By Lou ScottWhy did the woman in the corner of the library spend so many hours, day after day, in a dimly lit room, hunched over what seemed a never-ending pile of long ago documents? Every day, I asked myself the same question. But today, tiptoeing past her table and looking back over my shoulder, I saw what appeared to be birth certificates - all set apart from each other in neat little rows. I wondered what was she hoping to find in them.
A better, kinder, more interesting family than the one she has in the here and now? An impressive ancestor, a disenfranchised one, or perhaps an ancestor she had hoped not to find?
I found the woman intriguing. She was relentless in her push through a labyrinth of facts, guesses, and never ending research. And she inspired me.
What about my own ancestors —those long ago people whose personality or genetic traits might inform my own?
Looking through myriad census data, church records, the free BMD and the GRO for copies of certificates, I found dead ends, pleasant surprises, false leads and occupations completely foreign to me…. It was all too much. So I stepped back, regrouped, and began again. This time with a glass of wine and music in the background.
Right before my mother died, came news that knocked me off my feet. She discovered my grandfather had changed his name some sixty years ago and never told anyone that he had. She said his name began with a B. I accepted that clue might take a long time to unravel.
In the meantime, I found Elizabeth, a lacemaker, whose fiancé left her with a promise, a ring and a baby to care for. Spending the rest of her days sitting outside her cottage, Elizabeth eked out a living from the exquisite lace she made for aristocratic women in search of the best.
And it was true. Uncle Oliver, British Consul in Pittsburgh, really did arrange a meeting between President Roosevelt and a member of the British royal family during WW II. Some time later, his “Service to the Crown,” was properly recognized.
But I am sad about Henry, an artist who served in the trenches of World War 1, and whom was given an order to take a message to the front. But driving through no man’s land on his motorcycle, Henry was thrown from it, burned and blinded.
On the other hand, Robert, a farm bailiff, gave to the mother of his three children an unusual Christmas present; he married her.
An ancestor of a different ilk was William. At just 48 years of age, and the father of 10, he keeled over one hot day and died. One of the town’s most respected citizens, on the day of his funeral, flags were flown at half staff, town offices were shuttered and “townsfolk” turned out in force - lining sidewalks on both sides of the street, quietly watching the stream of black limousines as it made its way up a steep hill.
The search for my ancestors and their stories is not over. Thus, if you ever wish to find me, I’ve become a mysterious woman sitting at a table in the back of a library, pouring through piles and piles of documents, all set apart from each other in neat little rows.
