otorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Since you are reading this you probably are already a rider or really care about someone who is so we are kinda preaching to the choir here. But it never hurts to remind ourselves that there is a lot WE can do to stay safe out there. Let’s face it, a lot of cagers just are not paying attention while they are driving and that alone makes it doubly important as riders to make damn sure that we are paying attention at ALL times while on the road. We all know that things can and will go wrong in a hurry making it necessary to make a quick decision. Throttle out - brake hard - gradual slow down – swerve or all the above within a single incident. Many times I hear a rider say something like “F-him - I have the right of way”- realistically, this is a battle that we just can’t win. If that driver is texting or does not care about you, which some do not – as a rider, the deck is stacked against us. The key for me is to never let my guard down while riding to think I am safer than I really am. This can be hard to do when a cager does something really stupid - it is very easy to lose our cool (at least it is for me). But, I try to stay a mindset by not allowing myself to become just as “stupid” as the driver that just pissed me off. So let’s think about riding in our lane where drivers are most apt to see us (when they look up from their cellphones) and own your space so that drivers are not questioning whether or not you are giving them room to come into your lane. But at the same time…always be ready for that idiot that jets over 3 lanes right into you…never noticing that you are there! Like that lady in the tan Lexus who did to me a couple days ago merging onto the freeway and straight to the fast lane without looking. As for me, that meant it was time to twist the throttle and hug the k-rail to get me out of the danger zone…quickly! About a month ago, I must have hit something on the freeway and got a rear flat with Terry on the back while moving right along in the fast lane. It was the beginning of rush hour and I almost made a bad decision to try to work my way across the freeway to get us to a safer stopping place. But doing so would have meant crossing 4 lanes of traffic with a flat on a banked freeway… which would have most likely peeled the tire off to the rim. I thought wiser of it and made a gradual slow down. We jumped off the bike and waited by the k rail with cars whizzing past us until our good friends at Harley-Davidson of Folsom rescued us. It was not pleasant to stay there but it was the right thing to do under the circumstances. May 7 is the 10th Annual International Lady Ride Day. Let’s support and celebrate the ladies in our lives to encourage them to “Just Ride”! Every year we are seeing more and more ladies making the move to “ride their own” so this month we recognize our female friends that have taken to two wheels with two feature articles. Our monthly feature LADIES IN LEATHER is about the motivation behind Sisters of Scota Womens Motorcycle Club innovator/founder – Dayna “Grumbles” Davidson. Plus this month’s cover model, Jen Slade represents the strong single mothers out there who truly love to ride their own. We hope their stories will encourage other ladies to share their two wheel beginnings with us. Don’t forget on May 8th is Mothers Day – treat your mother or significant other to a special day to honor all their love and support. Rock Hard – Ride FREE – Ride Often

BAGGER BLUE Bagger Design out of Auburn has been hard at work building some cool bikes, this one is just another example of that. This bike has done well in bike show circuit winning Best Radical Bagger category at the 2016 Easyriders Show in Sacramento. The owner, James also has a hand in it as well - because he helped to build his own bike. James can be found on a regular basis at the Bagger Design shop helping out with projects alongside Turttle, the owner of Bagger Design. As with all of the other bikes that we have seen come from this shop - you will see the owners riding them. And if you make it out to any of the local bike nights or bike shows you will see this bike riding in and even on the weekends don’t be surprised if James rolls by you somewhere. James loves to ride and when questioned about the bike he swears that it handles good. Bagger Design is a full service shop located at 2112 Drive In Way in Auburn and are ready and obviously capable of handling your needs - so if you have been pondering a custom idea with your bike, go check out what they can do for your ride. Tech Tips A

Carburetors - Part IV

lthough Harley-Davidson tried out many carburetors over the years, the Keihin Constant Velocity (CV) carb was probably the next best thing to fuel injection. First installed on the 1988 models, this carburetor replaced the Keihin butterfly model. HD stuck with these until all bikes went to Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) in 2007. We covered the basic tuning circuits in part one, so we’ll outline the specifics to this well designed carb. As the name implies, the carburetor maintains a constant velocity through the intake. This is achieved by a vacuum operated slide, controlled by a diaphragm. As engine load changes (vacuum), the slide moves up and down effectively changing the bore size. This, in turn, maintains a constant velocity. This ensures a smooth fuel delivery throughout the power band. Like other carbs, this one utilizes a pilot jet (also known as a slow jet) for metering fuel for idle and low range up to approximately 1/8 throttle, an air/fuel mixture screw, and a main jet.

er to bring in the main jet earlier in the power band. There is one down side to this well designed fuel mixer. The accelerator pump is not adjustable. Once performance upgrades are installed and fuel demand increases, lean fuel delivery may cause a cough through the intake or a stumble (check for vacuum leaks first!). Fortunately the aftermarket has a nifty fix for this issue, the Boyesen Twinshot. Photo3 This really cool device gives you a nice range of adjustability for the accel pump. There are many ways to upgrade your stock CV carburetor and in most cases they are more cost effective than buying a new aftermarket product. We get a lot of customers that come in with a brand new – fill in the blank name brand – replacement because their buddy told them to junk that stocker. These are outstanding carbs and are definitely suitable for most engines in the double digit displacement category. Screamin Eagle even has a 51mm CV should you decide to swap out that tired old 88 incher for a big bore monster. Next month we’ll talk about the CV’s predecessor, the Keihin butterfly carburetor.

Much like the Mikuni, the Keihin has a jet needle for tuning the midrange. Instead of using a clip to position the needle height, the CV uses shims. The shims are small washers that can be installed to raise the needle position which in turn allows the tun-

Mount Shasta From Resort Deck

Ride Destinaton:

REDDING – MOUNT SHASTA - LAKE SISKIYOU

ell people, now that the weather has finally improved, we hope you have all been taking advantage and getting out on the road again. We certainly have. Got a couple of nice rides in this month. On one of them, we headed back up into the Mount Shasta area. Since the weatherman was uncooperative last month and we weren’t able to take any kind of real trip, we had a few extra bucks in our riding budget. So, we decided to splurge a little on our accommodations this time around. We found a beautiful place, snuggled in the woods, right on Lake Siskiyou (www. mountshastaresort.com). It’s the Mount Shasta Resort. Hard to beat these kinds of surroundings. We reserved a onebedroom cabin for the weekend. Two bedroom and studio cabins are also available, or if you prefer single rooms, hotel style, no problem. They can set you up. We checked in Saturday afternoon after having breakfast in Williams at Granzella’s Inn (www.granzellas.com) and, as always, an enjoyable ride up I5. Along with the sweepers, getting glimpses of Castle Crag and Shasta never get old. If you get off at the Central Mount Shasta City exit and head

west to Lake Siskiyou, you’ll make your way to the resort. We did make a couple of stops along the way though. After leaving Redding, I pulled off on SR151 (Shasta Dam Blvd) and cruised through Shasta Lake and then on to the Shasta Dam. It’s just a short ride up the mountain with some excellent views of the dam and Lake Shasta as you crest the top. This is a real nice spot to kick it for a while. You can check out the museum, there are picnic areas and you can walk out on the dam and soak in the picturesque scenery. And yes, because of the wet winter, the lake is getting close to being back to its 4,500,000 acre feet of capacity. The dam was built across the Sacramento River, its source is the Klamath Mountains. Completed in 1945, it is the ninth tallest dam in the US and the largest reservoir in California. On the way back to Shasta Lake City, we took Kennett Road out to the boat ramp area and got some nice shots. By the way, the old town of Kennett is now buried under the lake. Back on I5, our second stop was the Bridge Bay Resort. Another great place to stop if you’re in the area. Actually, a weekend up here would be better, a fine lodge, boat rentals, hiking and the CookHouse Restaurant and Bar are just some of the amenities. We wandered around for a while and later decided to hang out upstairs on the deck of the CookHouse. The deck overlooks the Lake and we sat back and relaxed while having a drink and a

bite to eat. I’d say we got a little too relaxed and we didn’t really want to go, but it was time. So it was back on the freeway and up to Mount Shasta. After moving into our cabin, we hung out on the back porch and watched as the sun shimmered off Lake Siskiyou. It was going to be dinner time soon, so we rode back up to the main building where the restaurant is located. Not knowing what to expect, we were very impressed with the menu. Kind of like downtown fine dining, but out in the woods. Sunday morning came and now it was time to hit the links. For any of you golfers out there (Johnny Ray, Bill) this is one hell of a course. Cut right out of the woods and surrounded by Mount Shasta and the Trinity Mountains, it is incredibly nice! And if you stay at the resort, there is no green fee. Even better! Since I haven’t played much in the last ten years, my game was so-so. But the scenery and having Cindy’s company made it a lot of fun. (She doesn’t play, she drives the cart and drinks the beer.) Kiddingly, she just said to me “you had fun!?” Hey, I only threw one club. And OK, maybe there were a couple of F-bombs echoing down the fairways, but it was still fun! Off the course and after a visit to the 19th hole, we continued...

hopped on the scooter to explore Lake Siskiyou a bit. We rode up WA Barr Rd to the Lake Siskiyou Resort to check out the beach. Not open until the middle of May, it looks like a nice place during the summer. The beach looks like the place to be, though. They put out a lot of floating objects that you can climb and jump off. Boat rentals are available too. From there we backtracked to N. Shore Rd and out to the Wagon Creek Bridge. Completed in 2010, it was the final piece of the Lake Siskiyou Trail. Now you can walk/hike entirely around the lake. The bridge was designed by Santiago Calatrava. He is also the designer of the Sundial Bridge in Redding. Before heading back to the cabin, I took us up to the restaurant for dinner and we hoped that they might have a band or something going on in the lounge. No such luck. Have to wait until the summertime. Well, Monday morning came around way too soon and it was time to travel on home. Definitely recommend this resort if you are planning to spend a little time in the Shasta area this year. Later! Article and photos contributed by Chuck and Cindy Loseth

CENTRAL COAST DAY RIDE: Gizdich Ranch Watsonville

finally got Nad out of bed, I told her we are riding to Gizdich! She got up and wandering around saying why are we going for a ride looking for gizzards? That’s when I guided her toward the shower to wake her up so….we can get the hell out of here! After I heard her get into the shower I ran thru the house turning on all the hot water and flushing the other toilet until I heard her scream and called me an asshole; that’s when I thought to myself.... YES!!! Now…she is awake and we can get the hell out of here! When I rolled the bike out of the garage, my good friend Larry was already in the driveway ready to go. After firing the bike up, Nad comes running out madder than a wet hen still calling me an asshole for her cold shower; but I know she will “chill out” once we are in the wind…maybe “chill” is the wrong word to use? Let’s use “mellow” out. From Fremont, we took I680 to Hwy 101 in San Jose heading to Gilroy. You couldn’t ask for better weather. It wasn’t hot or cold, it was a perfect morning with just a little crispness in the air. The bike was running perfect too - it was purring like a kitten. When we got to Gilroy on 152 west - I was starving! (There was no way that I was going to eat the breakfast that Nad made especially when she is pissed off at me! That’s like sending your food back at a restaurant, you’ll get it back with a secret sauce from a pissed off cook!) We were cruising through Gilroy on 152… and there it was! I heard the angels singing and it light up like the gates of heaven! JACK IN THE BOX!!! Ohhh hell yea, Jack tacos for breakfast!!!! Nad wasn’t too happy about it, but I did offer her a bite of one of my tacos. She ended up getting fried

jalapeno peppers instead - I knew she would break! After our awesome breakfast we followed 152 west toward Watsonville. The ride up Mt Madonna was beautiful! Everything is so green and full because of the rain and the smells are so fresh. When we got close to the summit we turned right toward Mt Madonna County Park. When you go down a ways you will see a ranger station, don’t pull into their toll booth. It looks like you have to, but just stay on the road you’re on. Follow the road past the little school on the left and not too far past the school is the Monastery. You got to check this place out! Now don’t be stupid like me, I wandered off by myself and found a huge statue of Buddha. In front of Budha was a big table loaded down with all kinds of food. Well, I started munching down, really sweet oranges and grapes. I found a Hershey bar to but it was melted so I was licking the chocolate off the wrapper when Nad found

Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 22

me and started yelling at me saying I was eating Buddha’s food! I looked at her like ...huh? what? I never heard of a statue eating food. Nad told me I’m for sure going to hell now. But I did leave Buddha a cigarette on his table, I figured he would want one after he eats all that food. Leaving the Monastery, we went back to 152 and headed to Watsonville. Follow 152 past the old Mt Madonna Inn, all the way down the hill till you get to a stop sign. Turn left on Carlton, follow Carlton till you get to the S turn then watch for the Gizdich Ranch sign on the right, turn left on Peckham

with a long driveway on the left. Now you’re in pie heaven! The Gizdich Ranch (www. gizdich-ranch.com) started out as an apple orchard in 1937. The ranch has been run by the same family for 4 generations. They have 30 acres of apples, and 20 acres of berries. Nad loves the olallieberry pie, Larry got apple and for me? I love it all! This time I got apple and berry pie with ice cream. After Jack tacos for breakfast, lunch with Buddha and the best pie in the world for desert – I am now on a mission to find some good Bar-B-Que ribs for dinner! Forever Two Wheels: Jen Slade Just Ride on MAY 7 10th International Female Ride Day

I grew up on a ranch riding dirt bikes and horses. My oldest brother and my dad were my inspiration into this world. My brother rode a Custom before he past and my dad purchased a BMW touring bike at the age of 65. After seeing his pictures from all the cross country riding he was doing, I knew I had to have a taste. I have always wanted not only a bike but to ride it myself since I was a little girl! When I was 34 I took the plunge and got my first street bike, a 2009 Harley Nightster. I did not even have my license yet, but when I found her at McGuire Harley in Walnut Creek, I knew I had to have her! I had one of the shop guys drive her home for me that day and I went later that week to take my test. I will never forget my first day out. My dad asked

me to come to Linden for a ride in the country. I was living in Bay Point at the time and knew I would have to not only ride over an hour alone, but do it on the freeway too!!! I was super excited and super freaked out at the same time. I didn’t want to embarrass myself and drop my brand new bike in front of my dad so I convinced him to ride to me first!! We rolled out of my driveway and I almost popped a wheelie by mistake and then killed it too!!! LOL. I was not used to the power…he told me take her around the block and see how she feels so I did. I then came up behind him and he said ok, let’s go. My legs were shaking my first time on the freeway but I just followed my dad and rode out and conquered my fear like a champ.

EVENT

Less than two months later I took my first long trip. I rode to Sturgis with my road captain (my dad) and after 3 days of straight riding we finally arrived. I had been there many times before but never on a bike. A totally different experience from driving there in a car that’s for sure! I can honestly say the best part of the entire trip was the ride! The following year, my dad and I had planned to go again but he became ill two weeks before we were scheduled to leave. I told him I would cancel too and he said… NO WAY! You get your little butt on that bike and go enjoy yourself for us both - so that’s just what I did! Words cannot explain how strong I felt making that trip completely alone! Since my purchase in 2013 I have rode pretty much every highway in CA. I do believe we have some of the best riding right here in my home state. I have also rode through OR, NV, UT, WY, and SD. This year I will be hitting ID, MT and AZ. My daughter recently started riding with me and also cannot get enough. It is soooo nerve wracking but I love seeing her face light up whenever we ride! (Here is a picture of her first Toy Run this year). She is 10 years old and sits on a suction cup seat on my finder. I have rode in some of the worst conditions as well as the best and there is absolutely no other way I would rather travel the world! I also recently rode to the Almond Festival in Woodland with a friend and 10 of his buddies. Being the only female rider, I knew I would get a reaction or comment from one of them. When we got to our first stop they started talking and told me “I can’t believe you ride your own bike”….I told them I was glad they could keep up!!! My bike’s name is Lacy. It’s a 2009 1200 Nightster. The upgrades I have made are as follows: *16” Rolland Sands Ape Hangers *Vance & Hines pipes *LED Headlamp *Arlen Ness grips & pegs *LED switches and blacked out covers for my front turn singles. *Leather Pros T-Sport bags *Mag Wheels *Rolland Sands Air Cleaner *Harley Davidson front Fairing *And of course my favorite upgrade “My Paint” by James Dean at Rebel Designs.

Mofomen MC

Oakland Breakfast

March 19 (Niles): Breakfast at The Florence Bar and Grill in Niles is a perfect way to start the day. Bones – President of the Mofomen MC was sitting at the table taking donations for the all-you-can-eat breakfast. Not sure if it was really all-youcan-eat, but each time I got up to the food line I just stood there holding out my plate…and they just kept filling it! I’m glad I did because it was really good, my stomach was growling like an old bear from smelling all the good food they had there. Lance, Willy, and David were the ones serving the food and they were very generous. They made sure you weren’t leaving there hungry. Cheri was running around selling the raffle tickets… and of course, I bought a bunch of them because I just couldn’t say “no” to her. I was shocked because I actually won something! I’ve never won a raffle in my life and I have been riding for 40 years going to a sh!t-load of events always buying raffle tickets. It’s a matter of fact, I could buy ALL the raffle tickets and still &@%# lose! But I guess being at the Mofomen MC breakfast while also at the Florence (the holy grail of biker bars) caused all the stars to line up so I could finally win a raffle! Outside on Niles Blvd, the street was lined with bikes on both sides. About that time the bartender lady shows up on her Harley and parks close to my bike. After taking off her riding gear she was behind the bar serving all the thirsty bikers. There was even a little moped parked in front of Florence, its shows everybody is welcome! A lot of good people from all over were there for the breakfast; even the locals there treat you like family and like to share their stories about the town of Niles. Good times! Feeling the Need, the Need for Speed

A

t this point in our journey, the Wright Brothers are making quite a name for themselves buzzing around the skies, and Model T’s are rolling off Henry Ford’s assembly lines. But what is happening in the world of two wheels? The early 1900’s continued to bring changes to the motorcycle world. Once manufacturers had tackled the basic change over from bicycle to motorcycle, the need to start improving took over. There was an aspect of the pre-war production era that was not included in last month’s installment, that simply cannot be excluded from the evolution of these beloved machines…racing. The new sport of motorcycle racing began drawing large crowds bent on celebrating our piston powered future. And with racing came an increased need for comfort, safety, and of course speed. While numerous small companies throughout Europe were involved in the racing industry, many operated only a short time before ceasing production. One highly notable advancement that came from across the pond occurred in 1908, the development of telescopic pneumatic suspension systems. The new suspension designs made their way from England to the US, and the result was well received. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a ride that doesn’t end with your body aching and the famed “iron butt”? Meanwhile, in the states, motorcycle racing popularity was increasing by the minute. Early racing was actually held on horse racing ovals or bicycle velodromes, but by 1909 construction of wooden tracks specifically designed

for motorcycles began to appear. They called their tracks motordromes, and they were circuits of 1.25 miles constructed out of 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 lumber. They featured severely turned banks which allowed riders to reach speeds previously unseen in the motorcycle world. Crashes were frequent and horrific. Riders who went down faced being impaled by the wooden track, and they were often fatal. Despite the dangers of racing, people flocked to watch, and riders wanted to go faster. This need for speed resulted in demands for more powerful, versatile, and comfortable machines…and there just happened to be some American companies ready to satisfy that need. While Indian and Harley Davidson continued to keep up with the times and improve their production models, there were two other companies whose focus was simple… SPEED. I’m pretty sure these guys followed the motto “if ya ain’t first, you’re last”…or maybe that was Ricky Bobby… but who the hell cares?? These people helped ensure that today you can pass everyone in the hammer lane, give ’em the old one finger salute for slowing you down, and wear a smile while doing it. The Waltham Manufacturing Company was actually founded in 1893, but it wasn’t until 1903 that they would commence production of the famous “Orient Racing Bicycles”. These bikes were first introduced to the world at the Charles River Race Track in Boston, at what would come to be known as the first recorded motorcycle speed event in the United States. The Orient set a tack time of 7 minutes over a 5 mile course. Not bad for a first run, but exhibiting the primal need to go faster, to push the limits if you will…they went on to develop an improved 4 HP, 1,000 cc V-Twin that powered the Marsh-Metz before the company’s motorcycle division went belly-up in 1908.

Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 28

The other, more familiar, US name in motorcycle racing was Excelsior Motor Company. Though the company operated overseas as well, the US division began operations in 1905. A Chicago based division; Excelsior’s first motorcycle was a 21 cubic inch, 344 cc 4stroke, single speed machine with a leather belt drive. It had a top speed of 35-40 mph. This first attempt would not suffice. Humor me, if you will, but at this point in my writing I am forced to take a small break and giggle at the scenario unfolding in my head…Four chimps in all their ginger glory, standing around this bike. The first is smiling at his brilliant creation, awaiting praise from the others on a job well done. Chimps 2 and 3 pat him on the back and commence telling stories of the awesomeness that has just unfolded in front of them. But chimp 4 stands a bit apart…scratching his head (or whatever chimps scratch) and pondering. (Number 4 you see…he is the crazy one, the envelope pusher, the friend that always sees another option… that usually gets you all in trouble). The other 3 stop and stare at Number 4, and Number 1 of course has to ask what the problem is…Number 4 looks up, one eye making contact and the other trailing up and off to the left (as usual). He smiles as he raises his arms, lets out a loud abrupt conglomeration of excited grunts…and begins flexing his throttle hand. Squealing and grunting commences, and they all begin exercising those throttle hands. And so it begins….back to the drawing board. And so it was for Excelsior…there had to be a better way, a faster way. By 1910 they had introduced an engine configuration they would become famous for, and continue to produce until 1929….the notable “X Series”. This engine was the V-Twin measuring 61 cubic inches (1,000 cc) and would become the first ever to hit the century mark. The “Model Big X” was the mainstay of Excelsior production, sporting an inlet-overexhaust V-Twin, it was firstly belt driven, and later had 2 speed and 3 speed gearboxes. Production was limited in comparison to Indian and Harley, and many of these models were exported to Europe and Australia. This era brought about the evolution of spring frames, magneto ignitions, kick starts, spring mounted seats, improved tires, and heavier/sturdier frames to accommodate the larger engines. The motorcycle had become its own entity, no longer a bicycle with an engine, but a separate machine with its own technology. In late 1913 and early 1914, at what was then its heyday, motorcycle production suddenly began to slow to a crawl…production turned its focus almost entirely to producing motorcycles for the military. By the outbreak of WWI in 1914, the motorcycle had rapidly progressed into a dependable, speedy, and relatively inexpensive means of transportation. Next time we’ll take a look at where the First World War propelled the motorcycle. T

T he Dogfather Tattoo Company

he Dogfather Tattoo Company (www.dogfathertattoo.com) was recently honored to be named Fremont California’s #1 Tattoo shop. At Thunder Roads NorCal, we love to hear about our businesses partners achieving recognition as a standout business, so I putted over to historic Niles where the shop is located at 120 J Street in Fremont to talk to the shops founder and owner - Bobby Cruz. My intention was to find out what it is that makes this tattoo business stand out amongst all the rest in the area. First impressions mean a lot and as I walked into his front door, the clean stylish design that is early 1900’s gangster motif throughout a very cool building that Bobby designed and built out to fit his style. The whole place fits perfect for the historic area that the shop is located in and after talking to Bobby for awhile the style just made perfect sense. As a Native American, Bobby Cruz grew up in his early years on a reservation. A tough home environment, he fled in his early teens and ended up living on the streets of San Jose. After returning from Vietnam, his uncles built him a sportster - but again he was on the streets with nowhere to go. He felt fortunate to be taken in by a local motorcycle shop where they let him crash in the back of the shop; and in exchange he helped out in cleaning and learning about motorcycles. There was a tattoo studio next door to the motorcycle shop; and one day while doing some drawing the owner of the tattoo shop said “Hey kid, you ever think about being a tattoo artist?” Well at that time Bobby thought he was destined to be a motorcycle mechanic and had not ever considered getting into tattooing. With some encouragement from the guys at the motorcycle shop, Bobby made the decision to take that opportunity to become an apprentice at the shop back in 1981. Back then tattooing was completely different and part of his duties as an apprentice was to make the needles for the shop each night for the next day. Also part of learning the craft was building you own tattoo machine, just a couple of examples of how much things have changed over the years. Back then tattooing was a fine craft, but with the advent of computers and the internet it has grown into a fine art form. Bobby explained that nowadays if a customer can conjure up an idea - it can be tattooed. As Bobby put it...the biker lifestyle and tattooing found him - he did not pursue either one. It was meant to be his destiny and credits both with getting him off the street and into a positive path in life. Over the years, he worked in several shops around the area before moving to Colorado. Over time his reputation grew and shops started to bring him in to help them design their shop layout and set up business protocol to help to ensure their success into the future. During our conversation we talked at great depth about the safety issues that are necessary for the industry for both the artists and their customers. We talked about universal precautions, how important it was to work with sterilized equipment and to keep all and surfaces clean and disinfected. It was abundantly clear just how seriously they take customer care and service and is very likely a big reason why this is an award winning business. We talked about the dangers of getting tattooed by somebody in their home environment, and how one of the first things a customer looking to get a tattoo is to see if the shop is clean or not. Then check out their portfolio to see if they have a record of tattooing the style you are after. We also talked about avoiding what are

known in the industry as “scratchers” (untrained tattoo artists that have never gone through an apprenticeship). You do not want to get a tattoo from a person that is learning the craft on their own, they do not have the knowledge of needle depth and how to get ink into the skin successfully. More than likely you will end up in a reputable shop that will have to try to tattoo over the scar tissue that was left behind. During this conversation, I also learned that Bobby was largely responsible for writing all of the tattoo protocols that the county inspectors use in Colorado to ensure a safe working environment. At that time, the county had no idea what to even look for and none of them had ever even gotten a tattoo. After returning to California, Bobby opened up The Dogfather Tattoo Company four years ago and their reputation for quality work and professionalize has grown. The shop has a broad range of clientele with many in the motorcycle community, business professionals and visitors to this historic part of Fremont. When you roll into this town, there is a lot to see in Niles - but a “must visit” is The Dogfather Tattoo Company. Who knows you just might find the inspiration for your next masterpiece? As we wrapped up our conversation, I could not help but feel re-energized and motivated, observing another example of how perseverance, passion and hard work will overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable at the time. Go to www.dogfathertattoo.com to see some of their fantastic work. Congratulations to the entire crew at The Dogfather Tattoo Company for being named Fremont’s finest! Article by Stan Hill

REDWOOD RUN – The West Coast’s Last REAL OLD SCHOOL Biker Rally Motorcycle riders on the COW Coast (CA, OR, WA) wait patiently all winter for a chance to throw a leg over their ride and go for a run around their area. And often the essential part of their day is a stop into some watering hole where much of the parking lot is filled with motorcycles. The grouping of motorcycle riders is very much like a gathering of crows. It is essential to the breed, is often loud and is always centered around a swirling group of smiling men and women dressed in black. This gathering certainly seems at odds with their actual riding which for the most part is one rider to a bike and at most a passenger and a couple other friends blitzing along on their own motorcycles. But, motor riders love the gathering mostly because they see themselves as ‘loners’ and the other riders as a group of loners in the public society of ‘others’. This is the odd calculation that makes the motorcycle rally so appealing to this crowd of ‘ones’. The COW coast has dozens of motorcycle rally opportunities once the greater part of wet, cold weather deserts the left side of America. In most of California, these rallies may begin weeks earlier than places north, so riders who may begin their journey in cold and rain, end up the first direction at a place where warm air, cold beer and cool music happily greet them. And most of these venues are within the city limits of greater metropolises, and under the strict view of the social mores of the greater society. Despite the nexus of these gatherings having been in rural locations so the party could be as ‘biker’ as it wished to be- most are now no longer ‘rural’--- except for the most ‘real’ motorcycle rally anywhere on the west coast – the Redwood Run.

On June 10th through 12th, the only true self-contained old style motorcycle rally starts a long weekend of music, biker games, swimming in the river and hanging out with the coolest riders in the West. The Redwood Run is a fundraiser benefit for the local kids that is put on by the local Kiwanis Club and is now approaching three decades of being ‘old school’. A rally where tents predominate the landscape of the venue - with all trailers and motorhomes parked up the hill in their own designated area. Music rolls across the natural amphitheater late into the night, motorcycle games kick off during Saturday afternoon and the famed ‘wet t-shirt’ contest is a crowd favorite as well. There are food and drink vendors on site and showers are also available for the riders who didn’t quite find time to get a dip in the river. As this venue is on a private ranch, the rules of public society often become a bit more ‘unbuttoned’ and enjoying the sun and water on every part of a person’s skin is both legal and quite often the case. The Redwood Run is held in Piercy, California right off Highway 101 a couple hours south of Eureka. This makes the rally an easy 6 hour ride from the Sacramento Valley or parts north or south. And this year for those who buy a ticket early, for a bit more they can add on an extra day and put their tent up on the 9th and add 25% more time to their fun. Price for the event is $130 for Friday morning entry and $180 for the early bird entry on Thursday afternoon. These fees include camping and all the games and music at the event. Book your entry now at www.redwoodrun.org and you can visit their Facebook page to see photos of the 2015 event, or simply Google Redwood Run on the net to see the thousands of photos of the many years of the run. Hope to see you there! Article and photos contributed by Frank Medicine Wolf Springer “Think a good thought.”

Juggs Bunny 2016 March 19 (Santa Cruz): Hells Angels Santa Cruz was ready to roll with this great event that needs to be on your list of events to attend - if you have not already. The day started out at Callahan’s Pub in Santa Cruz where riders gathered to drop off their wrapped Easter baskets along with a cash donation to help bring a smile to some local kids faces. From Callahan’s Pub, the ride starts and Santa Cruz definitely offers some scenic riding, there’s no doubt about it. As the ride wound down the packs started to roll into Cycle Imagery - the area’s premier motorcycle shop which has a huge area for a big gathering like this. The shop stayed open for customers during the event and were once again great hosts. My mouth was watering from the smell that filled the air of the tasty BBQ tri-tip and chicken that was complimented with a plate full of delicious side dishes...plus the club provided FREE BEER with tips very much appreciated. As everybody was lining up to get their grub on - Hayride to Hell, the first band of the day took to the stage and rocked it out with some hard hitting grungy rock and roll. Next up it was Ricky Torres Group that had a southern rock grove going on. Now although both bands were doing a great job entertaining

the crowd and the food was very good thanks to the hard working volunteers – but, let’s get real. There is a reason this event is called Juggs Bunny! The crowd appeared to be closing in around the stage as the young ladies lined up for the days big event. It was now time for the wet t-shirt contest to begin! As a photographer of many wet t-shirt contests (I know... tough job, right?) - I have to say that this is one of the best setups for a wet t-shirt contest that I have yet to see. A rainmaker shower head mounted at the top of a long pole for the girls to dance under...all set up on-top of the stage so that the crowd could easily see the action. The action was as hot as the Jugg Bunnies did their best to rouse the crowd’s reaction to earn herself a whopping $1000 (2nd place took a not too shabby $300 home). Although ALL the bunnies had the right moves and could have won this year, it was Halee (a previous Thunder Roads NorCal model) who was crowned Miss Juggs Bunny 2016 and collected the ca$h prize! So consider putting this one on your calendar for next year and make a weekend of it in Santa Cruz; see for yourself some of what NorCal has to offer....spectacular scenic coastal riding, good food and music and of course some of NorCal’s smokin’ hot girls! BUFFALO CHIP’s 35th Anniversary: The Best Reason For The Ride

Chip small stage venue

For the last several years, the greatest part of the motorcycle riding community have spent hours burning the midnight oil to crunch routes and plans for their ride to attend the perceived ‘holy grail’ of rally’s; “Sturgis ‘75”. And indeed somewhere around a million motorcycle riders of various levels of devotion made the trek to the Mecca of American Steel partying- with a certain varying degree of satisfaction in their adventure. 75 years of Sturgis has passed, but for riders all over the world who know where the best party is… in August the 35 years of Buffalo Chip is likely to be the most looked forward to anniversary for the next 10 years- and it is only months away! The Editors of Thunder Roads Magazine Nor Cal, being the West Coast’s leading motorcycle publication, found it interesting that the ‘God Father’ of the Motorcycle Music Party known as Buffalo Chip, was at one time a resident of California. Rod “Woody” Woodruff spent 1969/70 in California before returning to South Dakota to finish his education and receive his jurisprudence degree and become an attorney. For many people, having a young man’s adventure in California satiated, and returning home to be schooled into a successful lifetime career would be enough to call it good. But, Woody’s heart is a Biker’s heart- and in 1981 when the City of Sturgis made the move to close down the rough and tumble annual Sturgis Black Hills Motorcycle Rally by denying any use of land in the city limitsRod Woodruff called bullshit. Renting a barbed wire fenced pasture 3 miles east of town, building a wooden stage, hiring musicians and renting out spots for ‘real bikers’ to set their tents, the first “Buffalo Chip Rally” laid roots and saved that which has become the most highly attended motorcycle rally in the world. And just this past year, when the City of Sturgis made direct moves to lay both ‘tax hands’ and the hands of city laws and regulations on “The Chip”, the American free will of the Woodruff family used existing South Dakota law to officially birth the newest city in the state. “Buffalo Chip, South Dakota” became a reality, with enough residents to satisfy the legal commitments, and tens of thousands of rally attendees to lift the ‘city limits’ to the third largest town in the

Legends ride line up in Deadwood

Lining up for the show at the Chip state… for 3 weeks a year--- and all of it built on Motorcycles and Rock and Roll! For those who know The Chip, the choice of attending this year’s celebration of their 35th anniversary is a foregone conclusion. As their 30th Anniversary was a huge jump forward in size and festivities, the 35th has already gone a direction to make this year’s ‘camp’ an even more “off the hook party”. Having an exceptional line up of musicians beginning so far with Lynyrd Skynrd, Miranda Lambert, Kid Rock and “Weird Al” Yankovic, with up to a dozen more ‘top liners’ to play on the huge Wolfman Jack Stage yet to be announced - the numerous bars and stages scattered about the 600 acres, and festivities that begin in the morning and continue on until you are in the dark morning of the next day—why wouldn’t you plan to attend? And…all of these concerts, shows and exhibitions are free with your paid camping fee! There are free showers, with numerous washers and dryers for your clothes, a small store for those things you have forgotten- though priced like pirate booty, restaurants of various foods, numerous vendor stalls

It’s a great tour and the funds raised go to many Cross Roads bar...rest worthy charities in the area. more than your elbows Thousands of bikers here ride from the COW Coast (California, Oregon, Washington) to Sturgis every year. And this year’s 35th anniversary at “The Best Party Anywhere” has the benefit of a lot less bikes clogging the roads to the gate as “Sturgis 75” is in the books and the long awaited ‘by pass’ from the freeway right to The Chip front gate will be done and the ‘in and out’ will be a no sweat experience for both rider and bike. Kirk Taylor of Custom Design Studios in Novato and Billie The Kid Photography joined forces to shoot this beautiful FXR at Vallejo’s Mare Island and as you can see the results were spectacular! We jumped at the opportunity to showcase a renowned custom bike builder along with his bike that happened to be photographed right in our backyard...hell yeah... TRM NorCal was chomping at the bit to share them with our readers! Custom Design Studios is a full service one-stop shop that although they have an exceptional reputation for building award winning custom motorcycles. They still have their feet firmly planted on the ground and are more than willing and able to take care of all of your general maintenance needs. You name it - anything from oil changes to new tires and regular maintenance. But if you stop by the shop, you just might get inspired to take your bike to the next level with new paint or custom fabrication. Kirk grew up around bikes and helping his dad in his machine shop so it was just a natural progression from there to opening his own motorcycle shop in 1988. Kirk and Custom Design Studios have been at his current location at 56 Hamilton Drive - Suite A in Novato since 1997. This was the same location as featured in TRM NorCal’s September 2015 issue for the FXR BBQ and DYNA Day in conjunction with FXR’s of California – a show that was off the hook with thousands coming out for a great day in Marin County.

Kirk has won several awards over the years and is particularly proud of being invited to the Artistry and Iron show and winning the Custom Chrome Dealer show in 2010 where as first prize he took home a new motor and transmission. Kirk reached worldwide recognition after being on a syndicated TV show in Italy called Chopper Challenge that reairs every year over there. Kirk and his wife Lisa have since then been brought out as guest to two of Italy’s biggest shows. Verona Motorcycle Expo and the largest motorcycle trade show in the world, the EICMA in Milan, Italy. This show has ten 100,000 square foot buildings full of all the motorcycle manufactures and others in the industry and is where all the new model year bikes are unveiled. The show is open to the public for four days and over 575,000 people came to see it. Kirk said that they are very hungry for anything that comes from America and particularly from California as they view California as being a motorcycle mecca, so to speak. This looks like an article that we need to tackle all by itself in a future issue. Article by Stan Hill. Photos contributed by Billie The Kid Photography

7th Annual Rabbit Run

Pre Ride Details Grumbles and Tim Wilkinson Executive Director of Environmental Alternatives One of many Raffle Easter Baskets

Sisters of Scota WMC

March 19 (Marysville) The ladies of Sisters of Scota Women’s MC have found their nitch in the motorcycle world that melts the heart of even the gnarliest biker. The Rabbit Run is put on annually to benefit the Environmental Alternatives, a nonprofit foster family agency. Environmental Alternatives plays an important role in Northern California matching nurturing homes with love for foster children. In addition to placement in individual families, Environmental Alternatives operates several sixbed group homes and a 30 bed group home. They also offer transitional rental housing for youth aged 18-24 who have aged out of foster care. Environmental Alternatives is also the proud owners and operators of Lake Francis RV Resort near Dobbins. Open to the public, the proceeds from the resort go to sending approximately 100 foster children to their kids camp; Camp Rockin’ U along with nearly 500 young campers, not in foster care, ages 7-14. The Sisters of Scota WMC saw the need and began their Rabbit Run 7 years ago to help Environmental Alternatives to continue their journey. All proceeds of the Rabbit Run go to help send foster children to Camp Rockin U in the summer. The proceeds also purchase Easter baskets for the children along with school supplies in August and Christmas gifts later in the year. This year’s Sisters of Scota WMC Rabbit Run was once again a successful run! $4,000.00 was collected and

donated to Camp Rockin U for scholarships for the foster kids. The day’s activities started in the parking lot of the Golden Eagle Market in Marysville. 117 sign-ins from motorcycle clubs, independent riders and supporters showing up to ride with run pins given to the first 50 sign-ins. He had the upmost respect for SOSWMC and the riders, praising the Rabbit Run benefit as one of the largest contributors to help the foster children of Environmental Alternatives. Twenty three foster kids were there to receive Easter baskets and enjoy the games along with their families. Another 114 Easter Baskets were distributed to foster kids with E.A. in Chico, Marysville and Grass Valley. A very talented local band “The Swankmasters” provided live music for the bikers to dance to and enjoy. A specially prepared Easter dinner of turkey and ham along with all the “fixin’s” was provided for the hungry bikers by SOSWMC and the many volunteers. The 50/50 raffle along with a prize raffle

Dayna “Grumbles” Davidson Founder - Sisters of Scota Women’s M/C “A long time ago, in a far away land…” Isn’t that how most fairytales begin? It’s an appropriate opening for my story as it’s been a fairytale life, Grimm’s fairytale. My Mom didn’t like motorcycles. She would fuss about the noise and stench disturbing our solitude while boating at Lake Clementine. No one in our blood family owned one, so what was my inspiration? Where did my desire to ride come from? I was that kid, back in the 60’s, staring out the window of our Rambler station wagon at the procession of bikers as they roared past us. I wanted to be them! I loved the patches and regalia they wore. In my youth, I was a good kid. I played lots of sports, made the honor roll annually, played clarinet in the band, studied ballet and so on. Still, my rebellious side took me in a different direction at 18. Drugs and alcohol played a part in that rebellion as well. I bought my first bit of biker gear, an H-D leather jacket, before I even owned a bike! Finally, I scraped together enough to buy a 1977 Kawasaki 400 LTD. Shortly after, I learned the way of traditional motorcycle clubs through trial and error. There were no books, no blogs, no public avenues of “how to” info and nothing out there for women like myself. So, I pulled together 12 women who rode including my rugby buddies. I drafted a constitution and by-laws, designed a 3-piece patch and with the help of my best girlfriend, the legacy of Sisters of Scota Women’s M/C began on March 5, 1979. It wasn’t easy for me and the Club back in the early days. We constantly had to prove our worth. Now, all the closed doors have been kicked wide open. There are so many clubs for ladies and fellas to join today. I have so many stories I can tell after 40 years in the saddle. Titles include “Of Turkeys and Tarps”, “One Flew Over the Handlebars” and the ever popular “When Easter Peeps Attack!” My favorite is “The Great Sturgis Flood” when we continued rollin’ through the storm to our destination whilst other riders huddled under overpasses. It was frightening and exhilarating plowing through the rivers of water on the road. It felt more like a giant slip-n-slide rather than a road. So many folks recognized our patch in Sturgis afterwards! Some said we were “crazy good riders” and “The Wild Weatherwomen”. Now that was definitely a memorable moment! “How many times do I have to tell you, Sir?!! I want that big,

blue bike over there!!” Three different salesmen at two different dealerships either ignored me or stated I needed a sportster. Was it the 400 I rode in on or the fact that I was female? Finally, my request was honored by the third dealership. They even took my little 400 in trade. Of course, it freaked me out the first few miles I put on my new 1340cc beast. 50 mph felt like 100!! I still ride my 1985 HD FXRS “Damsel” today! Experiencing heartbreak as well as immense joy is part of my life with the SOSWMC. I’ve lost Sisters to cancer and heart disease. I’ve gone through the waxing and waning of membership. I’ve watched new riders become educated members of our biker family, learning the old school ways of club life. It’s allowed me to work with great folks, industry giants, some famous even infamous as well as with everyday bikers who are passionate about this lifestyle. We’ve ridden to Sturgis, Laughlin, Bay Area Rally (Texas), Oyster Run (Washington), The Love Ride and all points in between. I’ve owned Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Harley-Davidson and custom built bikes. We’ve experienced riding in huge parades (100th H-D Anniversary), 90 mph high and tight with M/C brothers, running road blocks and leading benefit rides. But, there is nothing more exhilarating than rollin’ down the highway with 40 of my Club Sisters! This fairytale is not over. My dream is real. My story has many chapters yet to be written. I am blessed today to be a survivor, clean and sober for over 22 years, and to have my SOSWMC patch holders by my side. Believe in fairytales, follow your dream, Ladies, and enjoy the ride!

BLACKENED SPICY GARLIC

SALMON 1-1/2 lbs. Wild Salmon (4, 6 oz. fillets, skinless) 1/2 tsp. Creole Seasoning 1/2 tsp. Dried Dill 2 Tbls. Pre-Chopped Garlic (in grocery’s chilled veggie section) or use real garlic; peeled & finely chopped 3 Tbls. Butter - sliced into 6 thin pats 1 Juice of fresh Lime; juice & zest both Salt & Pepper to taste Preheat oven to Broil. Adjust oven rack to the top of the oven. Season both sides of the Salmon w/ salt & black pepper, creole seasoning & dried dill. Place on a nonstick baking sheet. Toss garlic evenly over the salmon and top with butter pats; 2 pats for every piece of salmon. Place in the oven and broil for 7-10 minutes, making sure not to over-cook. Remove, cut lime in half and juice all pieces and then zest the lime over all pieces. This is such a great, light dish for Spring and the Creole seasoning and that blackened taste combined with the lime just makes it pop! Delish!

1 3 1 1

PASTA & FRESH PEAS SALAD

Box of Corkscrew Pasta Tbls. Quality Margarine Reg. Size Bag of Frozen Peas (thawed) Large Red Pepper cut up and roasted in oven @ 350 degrees for 10 mins. 1 Bottle of Alfredo Sauce (in grocery aisle along with spaghetti sauce) Cook your pasta until still a little bite left in it; do not cook until mushy. After draining pasta, add to a glass or ceramic bowl and add your heated all the way through Alfredo sauce

and the roasted red peppers. Salt & pepper to your desired taste and add the thawed peas last and gently stir so as not to squish the peas. This is a really good side dish to have with your Blackened Salmon as the creaminess of the Alfredo sauce truly compliments one another.

FEATHER-LIGHT SPRING COOKIES

1 Box of White Cake Mix 1 8 oz. Tub of Cool Whip 1 Egg Powdered Sugar (Confection) Mix all ingredients together to be dropped onto cookie sheet. Drop tablespoonful’s into a small bowl of Powdered Sugar to coat thoroughly to go on sheet. Bake at pre-heated 350 degrees for 12 minutes Cool before removing gently with a spatula. These are so light and not too sweet; just right. I’ve also done with other types of Cake Mix; red velvet, fudge chocolate, spice. The white ones’ just look airy and fluffy for Spring. Garnish w/ the zest of a tangerine over top for a little kick. Yummers!

CAMPFIRE STRAWBERRIES 1 Container of Big Sized Strawberries (it’s peak time now so be choosey) Farm Stands are good because often if you tell them they’re for a special recipe they’ll let you create your own selection box. 1 Bottle of premium Marshmallow Crème’; pour it out into a small glass or ceramic bowl. Wash your strawberries gently under cool water and dry with a paper towel very gently and then let rest on double paper towels to dry complete. Soak kabob wooden spears in water so they don’t burn and stick them into top of strawberry and then dip the bottom in the marshmallow crème’ and gently toast over fire until bottom golden brown. Can do over open flame gas stove too. These are so simple. Great to do w/ your kids. Enjoy!

Last year I was planning a trip with some of my friends. Everything was in place to make it the perfect weekend. We had been planning the trip for some time so as the weeks and days got closer I was checking off my list of the things I needed to do before I left. I also had the list of things I needed to pack and the things I needed to check on the bike. Lets see, get someone to watch the dog, let the neighbors know I am leaving so they can watch the house, turn off the A/C, put sticks in the windows and make sure to lock the door as I walk out. Check Okay, I packed some food, an extra pair of jeans, and a couple of my favorite Harley T-Shirts, socks, skivvies and got em all in my T-Bag. I washed the Fat Boy put a layer of polish on him, changed the oil, made sure I had all the tools in my tool bag and I was ready to go. I couldn’t wait to get away and take a much needed break. I pulled the bike out in the driveway fired him up and walked back to close the garage door to let the bike warm up. When I turned back around to face the bike, my jaw dropped in horror as I could almost see the cord coming through my back tire. Are you kidding me? I’m supposed to meet everyone in 30 minutes and now I can’t go. “Stupid Tire”! I couldn’t believe it. I had checked all the things I thought were important to make the trip a success. The one little thing I over looked was actually the biggest. It

was my tires. It is the foundation that every motorcycle, car, plane, bus and every other vehicle on the road has to have in order to work. Without good tires (the foundation), my trip was aborted. It seems like such a simple task to overlook, but I know a lot of us do. Take a look at your tires from time to time. This is the first things truck drivers are taught to do before every trip; “Bump Your Tires”. Like our bikes, do we cruise through our days just going through the motions? Making sure all the things we think are important are checked off, but take very little time if any checking our own foundation. The tires like our hearts are very vulnerable. It is the very thing that keeps the drive alive inside each and every one of us to keep us moving forward. You gotta learn to “bump your tires” every now and again. Check your foundation, check your heart so when the time comes to make the journey, you are not looking at a flat while others are ready to ride. The lord says above all else, guard and check your heart. If you need direction, come see us at Thunder Road, we can help. Proverbs 4:23 – Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. MY TWO CENTS:

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month Is Here! That’s right! But don’t let that be a false sense of security for you. That sounds good and fine if you ride a motorcycle, but the cagers don’t know that, unless they look at the big lit up signs on the side of the freeway that say “Share the road. Look twice for motorcycles.” Some will notice the signs as they are putting on makeup, talking on the phone, eating, getting high or texting. And if you think these things don’t happen on the freeways then you’ve never been on a major freeway during morning and evening commute hours. I’m all for the idea of “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.” I think it’s one hell of an idea and I really appreciate someone trying to look out for us, especially since there is some pretty wild shit happening on the freeway these days. I’ve seen a woman putting on makeup while eating a bowl of cereal and smoking a joint. I’ve seen people reading I-pads, newspapers, magazines and files, and I’ve seen people changing cloths while driving on the freeway and I can’t even begin to tell you how many people I see drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette and talking on the phone drifting from side to side in their lane. I don’t even want to talk about some of the sick bastards I’ve had the misfortune of seeing…… We’ll just leave it at that. Then there are the people who text, they’re the worst of all. This scares me more than anything. I would rather ride next to some sick bastard who is eating a bowl of cereal, putting on his makeup while reading the paper, getting high, masturbating, drinking coffee and talking on his cell phone then ride next to an asshole who is texting. I hate to say this, but at least the sick bastard knows I’m there while he’s doing all this. The texting people are oblivious to their

surroundings, even at 70 miles per hour they have no idea what’s going on around them. #SMH #NOTLOL #WTF Motorcycle Safety Awareness is also something we should recognize and observe as well. So maybe be a little more cautious this month while splitting lanes, or keep thinking the people in oncoming traffic can’t see you and they might turn left in front of you. The weather is changing and the sun is coming back again, so remember, if the sun feels good on your back, it’s probably in the eyes of oncoming traffic. If the sun feels good on your face, the traffic behind you has the sun in their eyes and might not see you or your brake lights. This is a dangerous life style we live, so we have to stay on top of our game when we ride, because things happen so fast! We can’t expect people doing distractive driving acts to acknowledge us, no matter how cautious we ride. It doesn’t matter what kind of bright fluorescent colors you’re wearing, if a driver is not paying attention, the driver is not going to see you, so we try to grab the attention of one of their other senses, like hearing, so we make our bikes a little louder. Yeah, that’s right! The loud exhaust is to get attention, the attention of an idiot driving a car that’s doing who knows what. It’s a form of defense against the driver of a car NOT paying attention! Let’s make this Motorcycle Safety Awareness month a good one and everyone make it home safe! Now go have fun, be aware and make yourself heard, and by all means, ride like hell! That’s my two cents. The IRS decides to audit Grandpa, and summons him to the IRS office. The IRS auditor was not surprised when Grandpa showed up with his attorney. The auditor said, ‘Well, sir, you have an extravagant lifestyle and no full-time employment, Which you explain by saying that you win money gambling.. I’m not sure the IRS finds that believable.’ I’m a great gambler, and I can prove it,’ says Grandpa. ‘How about a demonstration?’ The auditor thinks for a moment and said, ‘Okay. Go ahead.’ Grandpa says, ‘I’ll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.’ The auditor thinks a moment and says, ‘It’s a bet.’ Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor’s jaw drops. Grandpa says, ‘Now, I’ll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.’

The Artificial Insemination man arrives. Suzy takes him down the long row of cows until she sees the nail, and tells him, “This is the one. This one right here!” “How did you know this is the cow to be bred?” the A.I. guys asks curiously to the ditzy cute blonde. “By the nail over her stall,” Suzy says proudly. Then the man asks, “What’s the nail for?” Well, duh, I reckon’ it’s to hang your pants on.” _________________________________________________ A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation was sitting in their pews talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church.

Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn’t blind, so he takes the bet.

Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.

Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa’s attorney as a witness. He starts to get nervous.

Soon the church was empty except for William who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God’s ultimate enemy was in his presence..

‘Want to go double or nothing?’ Grandpa asks ‘I’ll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.’

So Satan walked up to William and said, ‘Do you know who I am?’

The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there’s no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again.

‘Nope, sure ain’t.’ said the calm as a clam William.

The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win. But Grandpa’s own attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. ‘Are you okay?’ the auditor asks. ‘Not really,’ says the attorney. ‘This morning, when Grandpa told me he’d been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and piss all over your desk and that you’d literally be happy about it!’ Guts-Is arriving home late, after a night out with the lads, being met by your wife with a broom, & having the “Guts” to ask: “Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?” Balls-Is coming home late after a night out with the lads, reeking of perfume w/lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the bum and having the “Balls” to say: ‘You’re next, Chubby.’ Both have same result. Sudden death. _________________________________________________ One morning, before he goes out to the fields, the farmer says to his sweet, albeit ditzy blonde young wife, “The Artificial Insemination man is coming to impregnate one of our cows today. I drove a nail into the two-by-four above the cow’s stall so you can show him where it is, okay?”

‘Aren’t you afraid of me?’ Satan asked. ‘Don’t you realize I can kill you with one word?’ asked Satan. ‘Don’t doubt it for a minute,’ returned William, in an even tone. ‘Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying AGONY for all eternity? stated Satan. ‘Yep,’ was the calm reply. ‘And you are still not afraid?’ asked Satan. ‘Nope,’ said William. More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, ‘Why aren’t you afraid of me?’ William calmly replied, “been married to your sister for over 40 years now”.

916-412-7329

Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily, he can’t make the stream reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he pretty much urinates all over the auditor’s desk.

William replied, ‘Yep, sure do.’
