e are rolling into fall as I am writing this and there are numerous active wildfires up and down our golden state. Property has been lost and I fear that this just might be the tip of the iceberg as many folks are not even able to get back in to see if they have a home left or not. We are already hearing about folks in our biker circle that have lost everything. It is heart breaking to watch the news only to see the devastation of people’s dreams and hard work. Yes - insurance will cover the losses in a lot of cases but not without serious disruption to the lives of those affected. I am sure that there will be some motorcycle runs in the near future to raise some money for the victims. As we come together to raise money or lending a helping hand is exactly what this community is best at; so do your best to pitch in over the next couple of months and show some compassion for our neighbors that are displaced and have lost so much. On a positive note, we are proud to share that one of our Thunder Roads models, Amy was out risking her safety and using her own gas money to help rescue horses and transport them to safety. This kind of selfless act will be the very thing that helped someone smile again or put an end to one of their biggest worries. I also find myself thinking about our Lake County firefighting friends, Dave and Beverly and their whole crew of fellow bikers that are no doubt in harm’s way. We pray for their safety as they fight to protect so many others properties while probably having to ignore their own. But that is today, let’s hope that by the time you are reading this that the fires are out and the rains are on their way to quench the thirst of our bone dry state. Watching this all unfold it just serves as a reminder that even though we were spared the grief this time that we might not be so lucky in the future. Please let us know if you are trying to raise money for the fire victims and we will help you get the word out in hopes of reaching more people to support. On another note, once the smoke has cleared (literally) the best time of year to ride is quickly coming upon us. Temperatures are starting to drop and soon the fall colors will be out. As Street Vibrations come to a close, I am excited about the best riding time of the year arriving because we are ‘over’ the hot weather! My theory is that you can only take so many clothes off while riding before, well you get the idea, but you can always put another layer on and get out and enjoy the crisp fall air and the change in season brings with it a whole new experience. Besides sometimes it’s just cool to be able to wear your leather without getting a heat stroke. Happy Fall Ya’ll!

IRON STEED HARLEY DAVIDSON’S PASSPORT

river run

August 15 (Vacaville): It was another great day of riding with Iron Steed Harley-Davidson as we headed for the Sacramento River for the River Run. Starting at the dealership, we first rolled into Old Sacramento to the last old west saloon for a sarsaparilla at the River City Saloon. Next it was off to West Sacramento the ever popular Mecca Club where they profess that ‘every hour is happy hour’ there! The Mecca Clubs boasts to have the coldest beer in town which is likely the reason that there is always bikes parked out front! Once everyone got their passports stamped, we headed north on the scenic River Road towards Woodland to the runs end destination and platinum sponsor - Kenny’s Bar and Grill. Kenny’s Bar and Grill is a favorite stop of TRM NorCal whenever we roll through town. It was a perfect ending location because along with ice cold beer Kenny keeps the AC on high on those hot summer days so it is always a refreshing place to kick back. After the days ride, we were all hungry and this place has really good food. I had a burger and I can

tell you now bring your appetite because that burger was HUGE! After we all ate our fill it was time for some raffle prizes before heading out on our separate ways. It was a beautiful ride and a really fun day overall. Now is the time to get your passports stamped even if you did not make this particular run with Iron Steed Harley-Davidson- just get some friends together next weekend and hit all of these places anyway because the more stamps you have the better the odds that you’ll have to win some really sweet prizes at the Passport Finale on October 17th! Mother Lode Run August 22 (Vacaville): The Mother Lode Run was Iron Steed Harley-Davidson’s 4th run of the NorCal Passport Tour. Approximately 50 riders saddled up at the dealership early on a Saturday morning for a scenic mountain ride into the sierras. The pack headed eastbound to the first stop to Penryn’s historic roadhouse, the Valencia Club. Undergoing a recent change in ownership, the VC is a popular stop for group rides passing through the area. After passports were stamped, it was onto historic old town Auburn for another biker favorite - the California Club and a bit of NorCal passport trivia. Did you know that this local bar was featured in the 1996 film “Phenomenon” starring John Travolta? Then it was on to the next stop by way of a

scenic Hwy 49 to the last stop in Pollock Pines. As the platinum sponsor of the NorCal passport tour, the Pine Lodge Club was the final stop of the run. It was here that owner Debbie Merrill along with bartenders, Sierra and Echo graciously prepared tacos for the hungry and thirsty NorCal passport riders. This is a perfect opportunity to meet others that like to ride and have fun too! Later there was a raffle giveaway with a variety of gift certificates and a 50/50 drawing. The NorCal Passport riders enjoyed a great scenic ride up to the Mother Lode to get their passports stamped and increased their chances to win a motorcycle at the season finale on October 17th.

COUNTY CROSSROADS

APPLE HILL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS! (El Dorado County): Labor Day 2015. Sunshine and I got up with nothing on the agenda and absolutely no plans. Watching the morning news it said “Apple Hill Opens Early”, we looked at each other and said “We’re outta here”. Weather was a little hot and traffic was not the best with all the Labor Day vacationers coming home, but as they say “the worst day riding is better than the best day at work”! But I am glad we had a cooling fan on the V-Twin. Apple Hill opened Labor Day and will have different events through the end of November. You should be able to find one day or weekend to ride up between now and then. I notice they even had a Day Spa... for bikers? Once we got to Apple Hill we found many farms already open, even though we have our favorite, there were many to choose from. You could actually make a weekend out of the trip if you had the time. Our favorite spot has everything for the kiddos, face painting, fishing pond, pony rides and little kiddo rides. Also on the property is a Chocolate Factory. They had me at “Chocolate Factory”. I’m a kid at heart! As for what else is there... EVERYTHING APPLE! Wine, vinegar, doughnuts, breads, butter, pies, juice, sauce, cakes, caramel apples and on and on. Oh, and they even have apples. As we pulled up, Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 8

Sunshine and I were getting thirsty and hungry, most of the bigger farms have a place to eat. We got a quick bite and some apple juice. After a hot ride the cold apple juice hit the spot. Not bad food either and the prices are fair. Of course stay for the desert. The apple harvest is still going on, we parked under an apple tree that was loaded with apples. There’s nothing better than an apple right off the tree. After our bellies were full, we took a look at the local crafts. Apple Hill Growers Association lists

over 100+ places of interest with legends telling you what farm has what services – check it out at www.applehill.com Apple Hill is east of Placerville on Hwy 50 and easy day ride from most NorCal locations and a nice ride for our neighbors near the stateline in Nevada. Tech Tips Cylinder Head Stud Repair

H

ave an Evo or Twin Cam with a blown head gasket? Before you plop down on a milk crate, tools in hand, and do a quick remove and replace of that gasket, consider a few things. What’s your mileage? If your topend is getting a bit long in tooth this might be a good time for a rebuild. Rebuild or not, what caused that gasket to blow? Simply replacing the gasket could result in unwanted duplication of labor! One of the usual suspects is the cylinder head stud. These can come loose, or even worse, the aluminum threads can pull making a re-torque impossible. In most cases the thread can be repaired with the venerable Heli-Coil thread insert. Before you get busy with the drill and tap, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do this. Free handing the drilling is the latter! Here’s how ya do it right… As with most repairs, the service manual (OEM, from The MOCO, non aftermarket type as always) is a must. Follow procedure to remove the guilty jug. Here’s our bad thread.

assortment of hardened steel inserts. The 3/8-16 Heli-Coil will require a 25/64 drill bit. Find the insert that is the closest fit to the drill bit and install.

Apply a liberal amount of grease to the bit to catch the shavings to prevent them from falling into the engine’s lower end. Once the hole is drilled, install the insert that fits the tap. Apply grease to the tap and cut the threads (we left the grease off for this pic). Now you can remove the jig and thoroughly clean the threads with q-tips and some solvent. Install the thread insert. Don’t forget to remove the tang. Hemostats work really well for this! Install a NEW set of studs with high strength thread locker. While it may be tempting to re-use the old studs, new

ones are cheap insurance. Even the slightest damage or distortion can cause issues with proper torque. A small ball bearing placed between the stud and a head bolt works great for installing. Torque to 10 ft/lbs and assemble in the reverse order! Take your back-up wheels to your nearest JIMS dealer and order Cylinder Jig part number 1000A-1. While you’re waiting for the tool to come in, go back to your garage and remove all four studs. Once your new tool is in hand, follow JIMS instructions and install. The jig comes with an

Wishes on Wheels

August 16 (Jackson): Bikes were gathered at Harley Davidson of Folsom on a warm but beautiful summer morning for the Inaugural Wishes on Wheels charity ride - formerly known as the Walt Gray Ride. Thanks to a lot of fast, hard work by Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort and Harley Davidson of Folsom - this mainstay NorCal biker event was saved. It really would have been a shame to lose this event. The Make-AWish Northeastern California and Northern Nevada is a great organization that provides so much support for families with children that are diagnosed with life threatening medical conditions. We are very excited to say that it looks like this will be an annual event. Local news anchor, Walt Gray carried the torch for a long time with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and much gratitude must be given to him for all of his efforts to raise awareness and

charitable donations that he was a huge part of for Make-A-Wish Foundation (www. necannv.wish.org). Walt can step back with the knowledge that many kids have been granted their wishes from his efforts - now the torch has been passed to the great team at Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort and Harley Davidson of Folsom (www.folsomdd. com) It was apparent that this event is posed to be bigger and better than ever from the way that the run came together. Before the ride to Jackson, the crowd gathered in the Folsom Harley parking lot to be introduced to a tall young man named Chris who as a teenager was a Make-A-Wish recipient that needed a new heart. Chris shared his experiences as his wish came true with his family making a trip to the Ferrari plant in Italy. Riders were treated to a wonderful scenic ride to the sierra foothills to the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort. Jackson

Teagan’s Grandparents

Arlene with Teagan’s Family

Rancheria is family owned and operated resort with tribal leaders that are avid riders themselves. Today - they led the ride to Jackson making this another reason that this event is such a great fit. Once the big pack of bikes arrived they were greeted with a tri-tip sandwich lunch, and music was already going with the very entertaining Brad Wilson Band. Many great raffle prizes were provided by local businesses and the really organized and friendly staff was joined by Jackson Rancheria’s spokesperson and CEO Rich Hoffman which I am sure you would recognize from their TV commercials. He welcomed all the riders to the Casino, handed out raffle prizes and then mingled with the bikers posing in photos with them. It was especially nice having the event inside in an air conditioned building as the afternoon temperature jumped up to triple digits. The highlight for us was listening as Make-AWish’s Arlene Planas introduced Teagan whose wish was to have a tree house. It was heartwarming to watch the video of Teagan’s reaction as she saw the tree house for the first time. Thunder Roads Magazine® Northern California 13

Teagan’s wish came true as this was no ordinary tree house – it was literally a well-built house in a tree constructed by Make-A-Wish volunteers. Teagan’s parents shared just what it meant to the entire family to receive the support from Make-A-Wish and we also learned that Teagan’s grandparents had joined us in the ride from Folsom on their Harley. As the event wound down, the fun did not end as many riders wandered out to check out the vendors and play on the casino slot machines. If you have never been this way before - you owe it to yourself to come on up. It is a beautiful setting and the events schedule is packed with great music acts coming in and even some Mixed Martial Arts fights on the calendar so check out www. jacksoncasino.com for information on upcoming attractions! Look for this great event next year as it is a great cause and will be bigger and better than ever! Article and photos by Stan Hill. NORCAL FXR BBQ AND DYNA DAY August 22 (Novato): Bike builder, Kirk Taylor rolled the red carpet out at his shop Custom Design Studios for this event. This was kind of a grass roots effort that and not really an official event in the normal sense although there were quite a few vendors there. Last year, FXR’s of California promoters Debra Nathanson and Dana Levine put on a FXR day; new this year would be inviting the DYNA crowd into the fold. These two bikes are quickly gaining popularity here in NorCal where TRM NorCal has noticed all the rage to be coming from former street bike riders that are making the switch. And it just makes sense because these are fun bikes to ride! Plus there is a lot of buzz around the stunt riders who are doing tricks on these bikes and combined with that comes spectators wanting to see the fast pace skills. Keep in mind that just because you own one of these bikes, it does not mean you should try any of the stunts that they do. These stunt riders practice their skills in safe areas and if they do “lose it”, they will be out replacement parts for their bike or medical bills. They are not risking the safety of a spectator or damaging bikes, cars or property.

The show was a huge hit as literally a couple thousand spectators rolled in to be a part of this day. I don’t think Dave Murray wins Best of Show overall for his FXR and will be getting a bike feature in Hot Bike Magazine he also won several other categories.

Big Manny anybody left disappointed either because we got to see talented riders like Jason Pullen and his stunt crew, UNKNOWN Industries, Straight Up and a few others like big Manny jumping into the mix on his Road King. It was an exciting display of bike handling skills. After the stunt riders had finished up it was time for the bike show with FXR’S and DYNA’S being the stars of the show. I have to admit I don’t think that I have ever seen so many cool FXR’S in one place! It was an impressive collection of a Harley Davidson model that seems to live on for many riders as their all time favorite motorcycle. This turned out to be one of the biggest

and best shows of the year so far! Congratulations to all the people that worked so hard to get it together and a special pat on the back to all the hard working crew from Custom Design Studios for doing an outstanding job of hosting this event and Dana Levine and Debra Nathanson for organizing this great event! Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us all next year! Article and photos by Stan Hill. Additional photos contributed by Forrest Coss and Billie the Kid Photography

e found this award winning bike at this year’s Easyriders Show in Sacramento where it took 2nd place in its category and caught my eye. The bike was built by Ol’ Skool Jim from his shop in Sparks, Nevada where he designs fabricates and paints bikes for his customers. As the name of his shop OL’ Skool Builds implies, he brings some old school style and work ethic to achieve his customer’s needs. The shop specializes in fiberglass and plastic repair, custom painting, pinstriping, lettering and louvering. Ol’ Skool Jim turned this old Shovelhead into a work of art rider that just begs to be shown off at every stoplight and roadhouse on the road. ow, what a great feeling as my boots hit the asphalt on Main St. Sturgis, South Dakota. A revered and almost hallowed ground for many of us in the biker ranks. Since 1938, except for a few years during WWII, enthusiasts have come from all over to attend this, the world’s largest motorcycle rally. There was an emphasis at this year’s 75th Anniversary to celebrate the original events that led us to where we are now. It all started with an Indian dealer named J.C. “Pappy” Hoel in 1938. He and some friends decided to form a riding club and the Jackpine Gypsies MC came to life. Shortly after they began planning for an AMA sanctioned race in August. Pappy and the others drummed up support from other local business leaders and the races became a yearly event. At his side until his death in1989 was his wife, Pearl. Together they were two of the biggest promoters and were the faces of the rally for many

years. Pearl passed in 2005. So, here it was, the official rally wouldn’t start for days and Main Street was packed with bikes. Hardly a spot to be had. As of this writing, I haven’t seen any final attendance figures. Most estimates are that the 75th will surpass the year 2000 record. We didn’t make it in 2000, but have made it a half dozen other times including the 50th, and I don’t recall seeing that many people so early. I made it over to the Loud American Roadhouse for a breakfast burrito before wandering the streets in search of souvenirs or other nick-knacks to take home. Also got into one of the afternoon “street crowd” photos...I stayed off to the side so I could actually find myself once I got my copy. By now, I’m getting a little thirsty, so I’m off to the Knuckle Saloon. I pick up a copy of the 75th Anniversary magazine, slide up to the bar and order a Jack and Coke. Nice to be

off the streets and out of the heat for a while. On Friday, before leaving the cabin, I pack up my camping gear and heading out to the Buffalo Chip Campground for their opening night with Charlie Brechtel starting things off. As I pull into the Chip, I see a bike wash station. I say “well, maybe the old horse could use a bath.” Then we spot the bikini clad washers and I swear it just rode right over there on its own and got into line! Like auto pilot or something. HA! While waiting my turn, I struck it up with Chris Hunter - the owner of Hunter Detailing in Iowa. The ladies were using his product line to wash, wax, and detail the scooters. He’s also a Thunder Roads supporter for our mid-west affiliates. Good guy. So, I find a place to set up camp, head back into Sturgis and fart around for a while. Later, as I’m riding back to camp, I hear honking and someone calling out “Thunder Roads!” I look over and it is Dillenger from BIC Radio. “Hey, what’s up?” He’s going to the Chip to hook up with Charlie. “See you inside.” A little later, the Charlie Brechtel Band has everyone rocking. The bikes are pulled right up to the stage and lined up drive-in style, everyone sitting on their rides instead of in their cars. It doesn’t take much egging from Charlie to get everyone to fire up the bikes and give him a half dozen good loud revs! A real good show. The next couple of days, I did some riding out in the Black Hills and bar hopping around town. One-eyed Jacks and Easyriders are good places to hang out. Definitely spent time out at the Full Throttle and Broken Spoke Saloons. Unfortunately, the Full Throttle has burned down. The ATF ruled the event accidental. broke out in the bar area and was fueled by a 500 gallon tank of grain alcohol that was used for the distillery. Michael Ballard, the owner, doesn’t know if he will rebuild. Saw the Fryed Brothers at the Broken Spoke. A very good show, as usual. A great place with a lot going on including the drive through bar. Well, not enough space to detail it all and besides, I cut my trip short to get back before the granddaughter arrived. So, packed to the gills, I made one more sphincter busting trip down the hill and into Spearfish for fuel and breakfast. Ready to go, it was back through the canyon where I picked up SR85 and made my way down to Newcastle, WY into the Flying V Lodge. This is where they used to have the Bag Lady Bash. Every Tuesday of Sturgis week there would be a big party held in honor of Marla Garber. She was one of the original moto-journalists (alaThrottle Girl and others). Managing edi-

tor of the old Supercycle magazine, she got to know the owners and she would half-kiddingly say that since she spent so much time riding, that everything she owned was on her bike. Hence, the “Bag Lady Bash,” She died with her boots on in 1995. The Flying V continued the bash in her honor until 2011, but because of road construction on SR85 that lasted for two years, the party was cancelled and it has not been revived. Back on the road making my way to Casper, WY - I was only a few miles out when it started pouring. The weather cleared overnight and I put in a 767 mile day, making it to Winnemucca. If the weather hadn’t gone sour, I would have gone for the Iron Butt. When I finally pulled into my garage, my Trip B registered 3,141 miles. A great ride! STREET BIKE FREAKS

SAC 2

THE BAY August 29 (Antioch): The freeways were packed with bikes that were all converging together for the SBFreaks Sac 2 The Bay run. So many bikes were on this run that the CHP did rolling road closures to keep the bikes and cars from mixing it up and helping to keep all of our friends safe. The destination was the Contra Costa Fairgrounds. Vendors and SBFreak members were working hard to get everything ready for the huge pack that was on its way. This is a very unique run because it brings all types of riders out from six locations (Sacramento, Emeryville, Fairfield, Hercules, Pleasanton and San Jose) with riders congregating then making the pack ride together on to Antioch.

Here you can see just about every make and model of motorcycle and every type of rider. I for one kind of like that since we all have a love of two wheels it really should not matter what style of bike you choose - we still have more in common than not. The food vendors onsite were all very good and I personally had some of the best ribs that I have had all year - good stuff! The road in the fairgrounds was all lined with caution tape to keep people in check for when the stunt riders came out. And that they did - once again there was a good mix of both sport bikes and Harleys ripping up the place

with rolling burnouts and wheelies of every type imaginable. Jason Pullen Stunts and his crew even showed up to get in on the action. This was a really fun day and we appreciated the SBFreaks inviting us to their annual event. Sounds like the guys are going even bigger and better next year so stay tuned we can’t wait to be a part of this one again. Article and photos by Stan and Terry Hill. LEGEND SUSPENSION REVO A

n the July 2014 issue, Thunder Roads NorCal did a PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT on the REVO shocks from Legend. We were so impressed with their product that when they asked me to give their new REVO A shocks a try - I was happy to do so. The new shocks have been upgraded to include a rebound dampening system that you can easily control by adjusting the dial setting on the shock. Now you can adjust to fit your style of riding as well as the type of load you might be carrying two up or riding solo, laid back cruising or a more aggressive riding style. It took a bit of experimenting with my ride to get the Revo A dialed in but once I did the ride was plush and impressive. These shocks kept the rear tire on my Road King glued to the pavement with no chatter at the back wheel regardless of the road surface I was on or how hard I was riding. And when riding two up, Terry really liked the smoother ride from the backseat with none of the bone jarring impacts you might feel on rough roads with a stock set up. And when you back this high quality product up with their life time warranty, this set of shocks is a no brainer. If you are interested in a better ride, look into getting yourself a set of these and install them on your bike. Installation is

easy with step by step instructions on how to install and set the shocks up for your weight. Learn more by going to www. legendsuspensions.com and ask for them anywhere Drag Specialties products are sold. Article by Stan Hill

s September slides by and makes room for October and the welcoming of some cool fall weather, let us not forget the significance of what September 11th meant to us as Americans. It was a tragic day to watch those twin towers fall as many of us had family, friends, and loved ones that perished in those towers. There were countless stories of brave and heroic men and women that could have run to the safety of their homes, but instead, turned back in the fear of danger to run into those towers to try and save the innocent lives that were being taken for no fault of their own. These brave souls were men and women of local fire departments and police stations throughout New York City. As with any disaster, or harm that would come to our families or loved ones, we would hope the police or fire department would be there to help and provide safety right away. In light of so many local law enforcement lives that are being taken across this country for no fault of their own, isn’t it time that we as Americans stand up to the local tyranny that is taking place in our own backyards? Isn’t it time we say enough to the unemotional killing of the very people that put their lives on the line in our time of need? Hey, I’m not saying every police officer is legit and does the right thing 100% of the time, but what I am saying is that there are way more good cops than there are corrupt and abusive cops out there. Would you say that “every” mechanic is 100% legit and doesn’t lie on their estimate? Would you say every banker is 100% ethical, every rider/driver obeys the speed limit 100% of the time? Of course not! But, when the mechanic doesn’t fix it right, the banker makes a ledger mistake, or we catch ourselves or others speeding on a daily

basis, we don’t go out and take their life or our own for that matter. That would be absurd, right? My close friend and fellow veteran, Stephen P. Driscoll, was a NY City cop. It was his life’s ambition and all he talked about while serving this great country of ours as a Seabee. When he got discharged, he wanted to continue to service his fellow Americans and community so he joined the police force. He was one of those brave few that ran back into the towers only to lose his life when they came tumbling down in horror. Stephen was a Husband, a Father, a Veteran, a loyal Friend, and a Hero. I am ashamed when I watch the news and I see a segment on the twin towers falling from a foreign terrorist attack and on the very next clip I see a picture of another Police Officer falling to local “American” terrorists trying to make a statement by taking innocent lives. In honor of Stephen and all the men and women that lost their lives on 9/11, please thank an Officer for their dedication and unselfish service….. We point at the toothpick in our brother’s eye, as the log sticking out of our own should be giving us a massive headache. None of us is perfect and we never will be, but there is One. I pray you find Him. See you at Thunder Road. Mathew 7:5 – “Hypocrite! First, get ride of the log in your own eye, then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” (NLT) “Never Ride Alone” Pastor Johnny Lujan

MY TWO CENTS: You gotta be kidding me! This again?

EVENT

I had a nice ride on a country road I wanted to tell you about. The kind of ride where the sun is shining and warming up the road and there’s no consideration for your poor ol’ motor and transmission. You know what I’m talking about! The kind of ride where there are no cars on the road and you’re twisting the throttle like you’re giving your bike away in the morning. Hitting the turns with no regards for your own personal safety! Hard left turn! Let off the gas for half a second then power out of a tight right turn, throw it into another hard left and another right! You’re hammering turns like you’re going to the electric chair tomorrow! The road goes on like this for miles! But I can’t write about that right now, because I’ve had a several requests to revisit an article I wrote about a year and a half ago. It bums me out I should even have to mention this, but I’m compelled to write about this again because some shit happened to me and several people I know. It seems there are some people who ride like they

are the only people on road and they don’t give a shit or have any idea how much they are screwing other riders and putting them in danger. I would like to point out they were not all on Harley’s. On a side note, just because your bike is faster than others doesn’t make you a biker, just because you have tattoos and leathers doesn’t make you a biker, and just because you take risky chances on your motorcycle doesn’t make you a biker, and if someone has to explain this to you, then you’re probably not a biker and wouldn’t understand. I was riding down the freeway and the traffic was starting to slow down so I thought I would exercise my right to lane share and proceeded to split lanes at about 40 MPH when some dumb ass on a yellow rice rocket flew by in the lane to my right while splitting lanes at about 80 MPH. I didn’t even see or hear him coming. At that point all the cars in front of me where startled and started moving over to the left, into me! What kind of an asshole does that to another person on a motorcycle? I’ve been riding for a long time, and I ride more than most and not as much as I’d like, and I’ve put my own safety in jeopardy before, but I’ve never put the screws to anyone like that before. That’s just wrong and I’m not the only person this happened to! By no means am I suggesting or trying to tell people how to act, but I do want to make a point of letting people know they’re not the only motorcycle on the road, and when people pull shit like this guy on the yellow rice rocket, it looks bad for motorcyclist as a whole, because we know how the people we failed to elect out of office like to lump us all into one blood thirsty, drugged out, pistol packing out of control biker gang. We all love to ride for various reasons, whether it’s for the thrill of it, a hobby or a life style, and we all know how dangerous it is. The last thing we need is some inconsiderate fool to scare the hell out of someone in a car, who may not be paying attention as it is, and have them jerk the steering wheel in our direction. And unfortunately this happens a lot! Splitting lanes is dangerous business as it is, and we don’t need anyone else getting hurt. Check out the diagram, this is the safest way for you and everyone else on the road to split lanes. Look, you know I’m not exactly an angel when it comes to riding. I like the sound of my bike, I ride a little fast and I love the turns but I also take other people into consideration when I ride, especially other bikers. That’s my two cents, now go ride like hell and have fun! Al Cagle www.rackandpull.com

ILLUMINATI MC: Sgt. Cristian Valle Benefit Run August 23 (Rancho Cordova): Bikers came out for this annual event hosted by the Illuminati MC to help one of our wounded warriors. This year’s recipient is a double amputee by the name of Sgt. Cristian Valle. The run is to raise money to help make needed improvements to Sgt. Valle’s house to help make his home easier for him and his family to live in. There were vendors, live music and a color guard to greet riders upon their return back to the Illuminati club house from a very nice ride through the gold country. There were some great silent auction Items as well as some nice art work and best of all an AR-15 which was raffled off to help raise money for the cause. When we have an

opportunity to give back to our veterans it is always a good thing; but all who participated in this event left knowing that they were a small part in showing appreciation to someone who gave so much of themselves on our behalf. We must never forget about all the men and women in our military that are still today putting themselves in harm’s way to protect our way of life here at home. It is individuals like Sgt. Cristian Valle who are willing to take on the challenge of carrying the weight for our freedom onto their shoulders. Meanwhile, their families wait for the return of a loved one who is deployed to hostile parts of the world as they all sacrifice for the rest of us.

s a child I was always intrigued by motorcycles. I loved the sound of the motors when the engine is revved up and the sound of the pipes. I remember my father taking us kids for rides on his bike and I loved it......It wasn’t until I was about 28-29 years old that I truly wanted to get my own though. My dad had bought a heritage Softtail and I wanted it.... He would always tell me “you need to learn to ride!” So I finally started to look into the motorcycle safety course and signed up. I really enjoyed the class and found out I was a natural (so the instructor said...lol). A week later I got my license. My dad got me my first bike, a Honda Magna. Not what I wanted but who was I to pass up a free motorcycle. My first week of riding my dad said “You need to wear in your saddle” and we went on a road trip to Paso Robles. Boy my bum was not happy...but I had a blast. That same year I met my husband who rides and a whole new world opened up for me. We got married the next year and he bought me my first Harley - 08’ 1250 Sportster fully loaded. I was in heaven. Eventually I grew out of that bike and had to upgrade!! I finally got my Heritage Softtail. It’s a beautiful bike and a great ride. Since then we have made several road trips along the coast, through

the mountains, over the Golden Gate, We have rode to some pretty amazing places. Eventually I would like to ride across county and also go to Sturgis. (bucket list wishes). I recommend riding to anyone and everyone...If you are scared to get on a bike, go take the Motorcycle Safety Course at Sierra College or there are other ones out there. I just love the feeling I get on the open road....Wind therapy is the best therapy!!

A Minnesota farmer named Sven had a car accident. He was hit by a truck owned by the Ajax Company. In court, the Ajax Company’s hot shot attorney questioned him thus, “Didn’t you say to the state trooper at the scene of the accident, ‘I’m fine?” Sven responded: “Vell, I’lla tell you vat happened dere. I’d yust loaded my fav’rit cow, Bessie, into da...”I didn’t ask for any details,” the lawyer interrupted. “Just answer the question. Did you not say, at the scene of the accident, ‘I’m fine!’?” Sven said, “Vell, I’d yust got Bessie into da trailer and I vas drivin’ down da road...”The lawyer interrupted again and said, “Your Honor, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the police on the scene that he was fine. Now several weeks after the accident, he is trying to sue my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question. “By this time, the Judge was fairly interested in Sven’s answer and said to the attorney: “I’d like to hear what he has to say about his favorite cow, Bessie. “Sven said: ‘Tank you,” and proceeded. “Vell as I vas saying, I had yust loaded Bessie, my fav’rit cow, into de trailer and was drivin’ her down de road vin dis huge Ajax truck and trailer came tundering tru a stop sign and hit me trailer right in da side by golly. I was trown into one ditch and Bessie was trown into da udder ditch. “By yimminy yahosaphat, I vas hurt purty durn bad, and didn’t want to move. An even vurse dan dat, I could hear old Bessie a moanin’ and a groanin’. I knew she vas in terrible pain yust by her

groans.”Shortly after da accident,a policeman on a motorbike turned up. He could hear Bessie a moanin’ and a groanin’ too, so he vent over to her. After he looked at her, and saw her condition, he took out his gun and shot her right between the eyes.”Den da policeman came across de road, gun still in hand, looked at me, and said, How are you feelin?’” “Now wot da fock vud you say? A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl’s place. A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands. He then takes off his trousers and again washes his hands. The girl has been watching him and says, “You must be a dentist.” The guy, surprised, says, “Yes .... How did you figure that out?” “Easy,” she replies. “You keep washing your hands.” One thing leads to another and they make love. After it’s over the girl says, “You must be a really good dentist.” The guy, now with an inflated ego, says, “Sure - I’m a good dentist. How did you figure that out?” The girl replies....”I didn’t feel a thing.”
