uly is here and we are getting ready to beat feet southward to Central California along with other patriotic loving bikers into Hollister for the Freedom Rally - a 3 day weekend of festivities celebrating our biker heritage along with the celebration of our country’s victory for independence. ConvExx Show Producers from Las Vegas Nevada are new promoters to this year’s Hollister Rally with an experienced crew and a regionally known track record under their belt (with events like Las Vegas Bike Fest and SEMA, a specialty product trade show within the automotive industry) to take over the event promotion reins. Right there along with them is us… TRM NorCal has made it an annual 4th of July tradition to support this historic event by backing all that “get behind the success” of the Hollister Rally. TRM NorCal along with Johnny’s Bar & Grill, the late Biker Bob and Corbin Seats and others were there to help “Save The Rally” during its hiatus. So now the time has come again to show our support to this historic rally – not to mention, we’re ALWAYS UP FOR A GOOD TIME! Meanwhile weighing heavy on my mind is the Waco incident. Many of you have asked about my thoughts… I spent some time recently scouring the internet for any kind of new news on the subject. Silence from the main stream media is deafening where it seems to be that very little – if any information is being released to the public. So that leaves us with our own personal opinion as to what really went down there. I have my personal opinion, but at this point it is only conjecture. There are so many unanswered question; but there are several very disturbing facts that I feel a need to point out. One…why is there so little information coming out about this case NOW – TODAY? Especially when the local sheriff seemed to have the entire case wrapped up in his press conference with the media in less than two hours after the incident? Secondly…why is it when the incident went down in Laughlin that the law enforcement could not get the casino surveillance video out to the press fast enough? Apparently there are several videos that are in existence of this day, but are still hidden away from viewing by the general public. Thirdly…how is it that there is a justification to incarcerate 170 people with a insurmountable $1M bail ? These bikers are being treated like domestic terrorists; it is pretty obvious that most of them were just “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and had nothing to do with any altercation. Last but not least…why has the sheriff continued to change his “story” after the fact? For example, I have heard him say that they found 200 weapons on site, then it was 300 and then another time he said over 1000. Let’s just think about that for a second…this is Texas…IF the cops went to say…Wal-Mart in Texas…and cornered off the parking lot and search all the vehicles how many weapons do you think they would find? Exactly - besides having a weapon is not a crime the last time I read the Constitution. My belief here is that the truth will eventually come out. It will come from numerous lawsuits that will be filed by the Waco bikers that have been unlawfully arrested and held on this ridiculous $1M bail. Just hold on to your skid lids folks - this thing is far from over and I fear that it will drag on for as long as they can make it in the hopes that we all lose interest and just let it go. But before you “let it go”, remember that this could have been ANYONE OF US ducking for cover and finding yourself sitting in jail with our home life in shambles as a result. 15th Annual California Rendezvous Bike Show and Body Painting Expo
May 16 (Madera): That it was, what a show. We arrived about 11am and events were already happening! The day was nice, not too hot and not too cool, just right to walk around to view the nice amount of bikes in the Ride-In Bike Show and to see some of the hot models all body painted up. The Madera Fairgrounds had a nice layout of the vendors, bikes, stage for the band and Jason Pullen and his stunt show. Jason had a 7 year old boy doing stunts with him! I never heard who the little person was with the long hair and come to find out HIS name is AJ. (AJStuntz on Instagram). The event had a schedule lined up for everyone to see everything, i.e., the stunt show, girls in bikinis, bike show, The Band - 51 Aces and towards the end of the day, the Trophy Presentation. We decided to participate in the People’s Choice contest. After walking around, making our pick and turning it in, we met Carl. Carl had a custom bike that he took off the showroom floor, extended it, bagged it, painted it and brought it all for us to see. We ran into him in the covered area where the band was. We were tired and sat down by these two guys, Jason and another fella. Up walked Carl and Jason was interested in buying Carl’s bike. We asked him what he wanted for it and we all thought high $$$, then he said, $28,000! All these guys mouths dropped and thought Carl was crazy because they thought it was worth more than that! Just then we all wondered into the hall next to the band and that was where the trophies were given away. We did get to see Carl win for his bike. He got First Place for Touring, Ultra, Electra Glide, Road Glide Class. We follow him out and I took a picture with his orange bike,

matching helmet and trophy. We still don’t know if Jason bought his bike or not that day! We also met Juan Rodriguez with his bike, year 2001. At first his son stood by it and we thought it belonged to him. Then Juan walked up and said, no this is my bike. my son will get it when I am ready to pass it down to him. We got a chuckle out of the miscommunication there, but they were really nice about it. After the trophy presentation, we came out and I think Juan could have been in the stereo thump off contest with Kid Rock’s “You never met a mother f**ker quite like me!” LOL I had to google that song and download it, but man so fitting for his bike, clean and shiny! We walked away with an event tee shirt, some good memories, new friends and a great day! Looking forward to next year and what this event will bring next to the table!! ABATE 17 Annual Spring Run April 25 (Vacaville): There was a storm brewing as the weekend had a little breakfast and morning refreshments, we said goodbye to our host Row and made the neared for the annual ABATE 17 Fun short putt over to the Moose Lodge. And a special thanks to Glenn and the volunteers at ABATE 17 that work tirelessly on behalf of all of us that ride motorcycles. May 9 (Modesto): We hit Hwy 99 and headed for Modesto for the High Sierra Heroes Ride, but first we pulled over at the Omelet House in Lodi for a bit of breakfast. This is a great place to fuel up before a long day of riding the food is delicious and the portions are gigantic. We rolled out to Mitchell’s Modesto Harley Davidson where the festivities were starting to kick off and there were already a couple hundred bikes lined up for the ride. Jason Pullen Stunts wowed the crowd with all of their amazing bike handling skills. A color guard made up of both military and law enforcement was there to raise the flag. Proceeds from this event go to benefit Welcome Home Heroes Foundation. The ride route took us on a scenic ride through the foothills to historic Jamestown ending at Jamestown Harley-Davidson. Once there a very nice lunch had been prepared and ready for the hungry riders and some really nice raffle prizes that were being auctioned off by way of a silent auction. Later the band was set up and getting ready to rock the sierras. Also joining us for the ride was the fleet of Camaros that are called the Angel Cars. The fleet of 5 Camaros honor the fallen from the 911 attacks on our country one car has all of the names of the first responders; one has all the names of the airline passengers, another for the fallen at the Pentagon and the rest from the World Trade Center. Kevin Major Howard who was an actor in the move Full Metal Jacket put this rolling tribute in motion. The cars are a striking tribute to the men women and children who perished that day and it gives you a chill to read the names on the cars and see the words Fueled by the Fallen
as part of the logo. (Never Forget 911) The day was a great success as the bikers came out in huge support of this benefit. With all the negative impression of bikers these days I just wish that the general public could regularly see what we see,

Tech Tips Feuling’s Cam Plate Upgrade
L
ast month we talked about the cam chain tensioner shoes and touched on a few of the alternative replacements. Converting your pre-2007 Big Twin (or 06 Dyna) spring type tensioners to the later hydraulic style tensioners or the venerable S&S gear drive system is money well spent. This month we’ll talk about the Feuling upgrade. For background, Feuling has been an industry leader in the v-twin hi-performance world. Years ago, the 4 valve heads for Evo’s were unprecedented! If that wasn’t enough, take a peek at the W3 engine. Jim Feuling’s contributions to the industry are many, and although he passed away back in 2002, the company is still going strong. Back to the upgrade! As with all things requiring disassembly and reassembly in the reverse order, follow your factory service manual procedure for cam plate removal. Unless you need to go into the top end for some reason (rocker inspection, leaky gaskets, head work, etc.) skip the step of tearing down the rocker assemblies to remove the stock pushrods. You can bolt cut these and replace with easy install type adjustable rods. Not all adjustable pushrods are the type that can be installed without rocker removal so check with the manufacturer. Common vernacular for these rods are “Easy Install” or ‘Quick Install.” Although there are many to choose from, the most economical are Harley-Davidson/Screamin Eagle. They come in a kit with all the o-rings and the Evo style covers which allow you to access the adjusters. Buying from the other popular sources requires the separate purchase of the covers. Yes, you can use your stock Twin Cam covers but getting the wrenches in there to adjust is an exercise in epic frustration. The Screamin Eagle kit is excellent quality too. Once your stock cam plate is out, remove the bearing retainer and press out the cams. Replace the inner and outer bearings while you’re there. The outer bearings are a must. Once you put a side load on them the integrity is reduced. The inner bearings are an INA bearing and should be replaced with a full complement Torrington bearing. The easy way to do this is purchase one of S&S’s bearing kits (cam install kit). This comes with all four bearings, the oil pump and cam plate o-rings, and a cam cover gasket. Now break out your Feuling OE + Cam Plate/Oil Pump Kit and spend a few minutes admiring the beauty. The billet construction, fit and finish are a sight to behold!
Follow Feuling’s instructions for installation, but before moving forward check out a couple of things. Jig up a dial indicator and check out your flywheel run-out. Most have a few thousandths, but if it’s excessive that might explain that annoying vibration that’s been bugging you. Sure it begs the question – when riding a paint shaker on two wheels how do we define an annoying vibration? Inspect the lifters and cams. Maybe while we’re in there this would be a good time to install those cams you’ve always wanted. The kit comes with the cam plate and the high volume/high pressure oil pump needed to run the new tensioners. Other parts to be purchased separately are the outer cam chain/gears, the hydraulic tensioners, and the bearing kit. Next time we’ll check out Harley’s answer to the upgrade, the Sceamin Eagle Hybrid Cam Plate Kit. This is a high quality product and like the push rod kit, the most economical of all the options. Most folks associate OEM with the highest cost. Not always the case! Ride safe!

MY TWO CENTS: Swing and a miss!

orry for the missed column last month. I had a bunch of people contact me and ask “What happened?” Well, um, you see, I went off! In fact, I went way off and got too political and started pointing fingers and questioning statements made by our political leaders. Then at the eleventh hour before the magazine went to print, the bullshit in Waco Texas happened. In light of what was first reported on the news my column would have made me sound like a domestic terrorist or one of those dick head agitators, and the editors at TRM had the good taste and integrity to pull my article, before it put us all under a federal investigation. OK, I exaggerated about the federal investigation, but it was definitely the wrong time for that article. Whew! A couple of days later I’m riding down the freeway asking myself, “What made me go off and get so political?” I have a rule not to talk politics and religion at my house during family functions and parties. Those two topics are always a buzz kill at a party. So, as I’m thinking about this I catch a sign out of the corner of my eye and I’m not sure whether it said 80 MPH or Interstate 80. So I play it safe and slowed down to 80. I was actually day dreaming, just short of breathing out of my mouth and drooling, because I get bored on the long straightaways. I don’t know about you, but I love it when I’m on a road with twists, curves and turns. It heightens my senses and keeps me excited, and I think the tighter the turn, the faster the curve, the better the ride. That’s the kind of riding I look forward to, but you put me on a five mile straight away with the sun on my back and I’m nodding out like a junkie at the methadone clinic. I’m cruising down the
freeway just west of the Carquinez Bridge and after a couple of miles the traffic slows to a stop. I start to split lanes and about two miles later I come up to a CHP on a bike and he’s moving a little slow looking in the windows for commuter lane, seat belt and cell phone violators, just doing his job. Now I’m right behind him, and he stops, so I stop and he shouts to a lady on his right to hang up the phone. The lady actually puts up her index finger as a gesture of saying “Just a minute, I’m on the phone.” I could see the expression on his face and he’s not happy at all. The CHP knocks on her window and tells her “Hang up the phone!” Again, she keeps up with the “Just a minute, I’m on the phone gesture” and now the CHP is pissed! He hits the siren and lights and shouts to her to pull over! Even though this happened right in front of me, when he hit the siren it still scared the crap out of me. For half a second I thought about running, but he was in front of me. The lady was about to get a break and she blew it! You can’t even begin to feel sorry for a dumb ass like that. The traffic was stopped but they still managed to start pulling over and I smiled and shook my head and started on my merry way again and I wondered, what would make an idiot in a car tell a CHP “Just a minute, I’m on the phone.” Then it dawned on me. I’m on the road with people like that all the time. I see them every day. Talking on their cell phone and driving like “It’s OK, that law doesn’t pertain to me”, as they’re drifting into my lane. Sometimes I wonder if these people would drive better if that cell phone was shoved up there ass? Probably! That’s my two cents. What do you think? Al Cagle www.rackandpull.com

Excitement surrounds new bike owner
STREET VIBRATIONS SPRING RALLY
June 5-7 (Reno/Virginia City) The streets were a rockin’ as event promoters, Road Shows Inc. brought the bikes in for their annual Spring Rally. As far as events, the Spring Rally is a fairly new venue and is very similar to its big brother… Street Vibrations Fall Rally. Honestly, with so much fun at your finger tips there is no reason why this could not be just as big as the fall rally. The downtown Reno casinos are on board supporting this event with Virginia Street and several side streets closed down driving foot traffic to a wide variety of vendors and live music outdoors. Several stages were set up around Virginia Street so you could see some really great bands do their thing. Bands like the Fryed Brothers Band, Riff Raff – an AC/DC tribute band along with a Beatle tribute band from Reno called Beatles Flashback and many others. There was also a poker run that road up to Virginia City and returned back to Chester’s Harley-Davidson. Located under the Biggest Little City arch that we all know so well, the slow drag races were getting ready to start but then something unexpected happened…music started

spring and in the fall) simply because it is a 3 day event and THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO…you can check out its many casinos, or jump on your bike for some great day ride routes in every direction. If you can’t find a way to have a good time while here, then it’s your own fault. We found ourselves in one of the casinos during the Belmont Stakes horse race so we decided to place a small bet on the possibility of a Triple Crown winner from the odds on favorite horse, American Pharaoh. True to her conservative nature, Terry went for the favorite and won a few bucks. And true to my form, I swung for the rafters with the long shot and came up empty. That’s ok though it’s all about the excitement of having a stake in the result and just another great example of the fun to be had here at Street Vibrations Spring Rally. See you in the fall!! e just had to share this one of a kind Dyna Wide Glide that came to us by way of Sparks, Nevada. Ol’ Skool Jim is the
builder of this bike but more importantly he is a master painter that has a knack for keeping the design true to his old school style, yet manages to find a cool way to make each job eye catching and completely unique in detail. It is easy to see why this bike took 2nd place in its category at the 2015 Easyriders Show in Sacramento in January.

he month or so preceding the Redwood Run this year was pretty stressful for us with several surgeries in the family (all turning out well, so far) and caring for our old poocher Skylos kind of took its toll. So after Skylos passed, we decided that we would do an abbreviated Run. Hang out in Piercy when we could, but spend most of the time rejuvenating in relatively nearby Shelter Cove. And since we were leaving about the same time on Thursday morning, we rode up with Stan and Terry. The weather was great which made the ride that much nicer. We cruised easy on up through Clearlake and on to the 101. We stopped for lunch at Boomer’s Saloon in Laytonville before continuing on to Piercy. At Riverview Ranch, we split up. They going inside to set up camp and us rolling on to Garberville where we would catch that sometimes wild road to the coast. Ahh after being in the heat of the valley all day, the cooler temps were refreshing. We checked into our room at the Inn of the Lost Coast (www. InnoftheLostCoast.com) , grabbed a drink and sat out on the balcony. This was the life! A

rocky coastline, crashing waves, birds gliding to and fro on a soft salty breeze. Nice! Later, some Delgada Pizza would do for dinner and we kicked it for the night. Friday morning found us back on the Cove Road and making our way back to Piercy. We found some parking in the Fire Pit on The Beach vendor area and checked things out. We ran into Wanda Woman and Forrest (TRM photographer) and chatted a bit. They were in the middle of getting some new ink, so we moseyed on down to the pit. There we had some lunch and met up with KMUD DJ Bobby G. He informed us of some of the local happenings since we saw him last. Awhile later, we made our way over to the Thunder Roads Marios Bar and Grill tent and spent most of the afternoon BSing with Stan, Terry and the other good folks that would wander by and visit. So as the sun lowered in the west and dinner reservations at the Benbow Historic Inn (www. BenbowInn.com) coming up, we said our adieus and headed up 101 to the Benbow Inn Benbow turn-off. If you’re looking to have that one real nice dinner while at the Run, this is the place. Opened in 1926, this hotel is of old English Tudor design and set above the Eel River. If you desire, you can dine out on the beautiful

Habitat For Humanity of San Joaquin County’s
HAMMER DOWN POKER RUN
May 16 (Stockton): Bikes were starting to stack up at the Whisky Barrel Tavern for this first annual poker run to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. It was a perfect spring day to ride and the route had been well thought out not to long or to short with stops at Waterloo Restaurant, Hawg Dawgs Restaurant, Old Corner Saloon, Habanero Hots, and returning to the Whisky Barrel Tavern. It was such a nice day that I was a bit jealous of all the folks riding because unfortunately my bike was at San Joaquin Customs a local shop and Thunder Roads NorCal supporter getting some much needed TLC done. The location radio station Bull 105.9 was set up in front to greet the returning riders. Event promoter, Michael Huber expressed his great appreciation for all of their efforts to help spread the word about the event along with being very supportive of the cause. Home Depot jumped in to help out by providing raffle prizes that were off the hook with several large BBQ’S, a big garage style cabinet, tool boxes and a complete outdoor kitchen-on-wheels.

Ironically, the outdoor kitchen winner just happened to be in the process of redoing his backyard and had recently been to Home Depot pricing the very same unit that he won! NOW that is good timing. Many others generously donated great prizes too from wine to concert tickets. All in all, there were a bunch of happy peeps at the end of the day. The Whisky Barrel whipped up a great lunch for all the riders as they enjoyed a beverage from the bar and a great country duet “Lovers Rip” was on the stage playing a bunch of our favorite country tunes. At the end of the day, Mike and all of the volunteers that came out to help him were very happy with the first annual and are planning to go bigger and better next year, so stay tuned it’s for a great cause and

rmed with a Phillips screwdriver, I began the much anticipated task of swapping out my headlight to an LED style. I don’t know about the rest of you, but now that I’m looking at the big six-0 I find it a little harder to see at night, so I contacted Ryan Smith at Moto Illumination about testing one of his new LED lights. It was shipped in 2 days and with just my screwdriver and about 5 minutes of time, I entered the future. I can only say… why did I wait so long? I had already upgraded my stock headlight to a later model (05-later) style headlight which helped a little. The difference in the LED light was amazing. I can see much better at speed while riding, street signs are now legible, and the lines on the road seem clearer. The installation was a breeze on my 96 FXDS... simply take out old and install the new. These lights produce a bluer, crisper kind of light that really does make it easier to see at night. On low beam this light produces 1400 Lumens vs a popular model’s 650. High beam will bubble paint on the car in front of you with a whopping 3200 lumens vs 750 for the other guy’s. ookies Sports Bar and Grill recently played host to the first of many rides that are taking place with Iron Steed Harley Davidson’s NorCal Passport Tour. Located in a beautiful and historic part of Benicia at 321 1st Street you can make it another ride destination to get your passport stamped. Located in the Pfister Building , Rookies Sports Bar & Grill is a must visit if you or your group are out for a weekend ride as it is on the same property as the historic Pfister building that is still located there. The original building is an adobe structure built around 1847 and thrived in large part because of the California Gold Rush. Pirate Treasure Hunt May 2 (Placerville): Some of you may remember the Pirate Treasure Run from days of old. Yet, in recent years, the Pirate has laid dormant…always in the background, quietly lurking in the shadowy caverns, ever watchful, always waiting…waiting for a perfect opportunity. The Pirate is wise but he is also patient. A good pirate knows opportunities are rare, but worth the wait to fill his empty chest with bountiful treasures. The Pirate sensed the time was ripe when signs began to suddenly appear in the form of mysterious maps, unsuspecting victims, and Swashbuckler’s disguised as leather clad bikers, eager for adventure. If the truth be told…it was easy to see the time of treasures and pirates had finely arrived. They say He sailed the tumulus and turbulent sea aboard the mighty H.M.S Treasure ship, landing at last, on the shores of the American Legion Hall in Placerville. Virtually reincarnated he was, and surrounded by his crew of merry mates (also known as the Sierra Riders); Larry the Pirate had returned! The air was filled with electric energy while the buccaneers bridled with anticipation. They were eager to embark on the adventures in store for the more than 110 riders who rode up on that bright and crisp morning in the early days of May. Each fortune hunter was

provided with a unique and mysterious map which promised of untold treasures. Legend has it that many have dreamed of partaking in this voyage, though only the most courageous men and women actually dare to brave the journey through the Gold Country of the Sierra foothills. It was those and those alone who earned the right to brag, though most wise souls keep their secrets close. To delight of our adventurers the journey was laden with prizes and jovial pranks all along the way. Men and women alike were treated to astonishments, guilty pleasures and fortuitous opportunities to obtain the most coveted and precious golden keys for a chance at opening the grand prize treasure chest. Yet only one out of many would unlock the wonders contained within the Pirates special chest. Yes it was a day of adventure, fun and for most it was laden with treasure. Many of us rode away with loot overflowing from our saddle bags, but the unchallenged champion Swashbuckler was the El Dorado County Court Appointed Child Advocates (CASA) who carried off with nearly $6,000 in donated treasure from the good and deep pockets of the Pirates that day. The Raz Report: June 7 (Vacaville): ABATE of CA Local 17 and Iron Steed HarleyDavidson’s Hot Rods & Harleys show has become an annual event and a good one. Spectator’s parked motorcycles filled the entire street. This is a family event, so, if the other half and optional kids are not all that into wheels yet, there was entertainment to keep them busy - a merry-go-round, a train, and if that was not enough there was all kinds of food vendors spreading the smell of BBQ, even grilled oysters if you are so inclined - I’m not. And, if you feel the need to work a few kinks out or get a few lumps there was a mechanical bull test your riding skill. There was a wide variety of vendors with the dealership open for shopping, whether for a new ride, parts,

or a new T-shirt. Thunder Roads Magazine NorCal was there with calendar and cover models giving away free magazines and calendars. The hot rods included entries from the 1930’s through the 1980’s. There was something for everyone whether you are a fan of classic old street rods whether stock or modified body, lead sleds whether Cadillac
convertible or Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, old muscle cars like Chevy Nova or Malibu, pick-m-up trucks with tilt front end and nice wood planking in the bed, and, even something for me, a picky spectator who long ago had and loved an deuce Ford 5-window coupe that was chopped and channeled. The Harleys included entries from the 1930’s through the

present day. There was something for everyone whether you are a fan of vintage iron, long and low baggers, high and fast lane splitters/canyon blasters, full on custom, and, even something for me, a picky spectator who long ago bought and loved a 1945 80cid Knucklehead, and, had a sidecar (on a Panhead), and the black knuck here was beautifully restored with an attached sidecar. There were 13 bike and 6 car categories and really cool trophies. Ok, enough bla bla bla (so there will be more room for photos), but, suffice it to say, plan on getting out to Ironsteed Harley-Davidson next June for this outstanding event! ow often do we take our freedoms for granted? A lot of times we go through our day-to-day activities just going through the motions. But then all of a sudden, you see something or hear something that puts these freedoms into perspective. The perspective of how our freedoms came about or when we realize our freedoms truly are special, and we should be paying more attention. Recently, some of us took a ride from Thunder Road Church to Park Community Church in Shingle Springs to support the New Beginnings re-entry program that helps inmates being released with a new start. After the short event was over, I had the opportunity to ride to Royer Park in Roseville to stop by the “Traveling Wall” honoring our Vietnam War Veterans. I have been to the actual wall in DC, and I must say this was and is just as emotional. As a Veteran, I walked the grounds proudly, and humbly, at the same time. It is very emotional to lay your hand on the first name in prayer, then slowly walk to the other end, and lay your hand on the final name in prayer. You look back at where you started and feel the impact. The impact that each name had on a family and on a culture. You realize each and every person that is named on that wall is a hero. A hero that gave their all too each and every one of us so we would have the opportunity to live a happy and joyous life in freedom. It was a time to reflect just what it means to each and every family that was represented, and the thousands of friends, brothers, and sisters that still mourn in anguish. We will forever be in their debt, and we will never forget! The bible in the same way explains of a man that sacrificed it all for us as well. We look at our bibles as some look at the traveling wall. We know the sacrifice that “one” man made for all. An unselfish sacrifice of death so we may all live. One that would take all our burdens, all of our past, all of our pain, all of our brokenness, and heal us from the inside out. Just as going to the wall and scrubbing a name on a napkin heals the heart, so does opening up to a scripture in the bible and memorizing

19th Annual Boonville Beer Festival (Mendocino County): Beer, Beer, Beer. Now that I have your attention I’ll tell you about this month’s festival, the 19th Annual Boonville Beer Festival. The Beer Festival is held in Boonville in the Anderson Valley and benefits the local non-profit organizations such as the Anderson Valley Animal Rescue, Anderson Valley Historical Society, Anderson Valley Fire Department and Volunteer Firefighters Association, Navarro River Resource, Anderson Valley Land Trust and KZYX Public Radio. Not counting this year the Beer Festival has brought in about $1 million. I have been waiting for this festival for some time. There have been other beer fest but the timing or place was never in the forecast. This month’s festival took us around the north side of Clear Lake to Boonville, Hwy 20 to 101 to 253, very nice ride. As we pulled onto Hwy 253 for the last 16 miles from Ukiah to Boonville I would have to say this is an advance riders road with 10 percent inclines and descents several times, multiple switch backs and several small evaluation changes. I noticed the locals know the road so well that they don’t slow down, I felt pushed every time one of them got near me, or maybe they were just in a hurry to get to the beer! The days weather was getting hotter, T-shirt weather, so the cold beer was a nice welcome. The festival was held at the

This was one of the most fun festivals Sunshine and I have attended. No hostilities were in attendance, everyone was mellow and a little high, most indubitably a must for next year. Boonville Fairgrounds, at the gate there were two tickets, one for $40, this gets you into the fairgrounds, one free 5oz glass and all the samples you want of the 80+ micro breweries, the other ticket was a $5 ticket, this got you into the fairgrounds with no glass and no sampling. The theme for this year was “Super Heroes” and just about everyone was dressed in costume of their favorite super hero. It made for a fun weekend. Since there are no motels in the area, the fairgrounds was open for camping for the over indulgers and that covered just about everyone. The Anderson Valley Brewery grounds just down the road was also open for camping and tours. Visitors got from the brewery to the Beer Fest by way of bicycle rickshaws for hire. Sunshine spotted several patrons that had pretzel necklaces that came in handy, novel idea. As for other snack food there was no shortage. Entertainment

Late in the night, “Buzzard” finally regained consciousness. He was in the hospital, agonizing in pain. The last thing he remembered was going down on his bike and of course was wondering if “she” was alright. He found himself in the ICU with tubes in his nose, needles and IV drips in every arm, a breathing mask, wires monitoring every function and yet a gorgeous nurse hovering over him. Buzzard realized he was obviously in a life-threatening situation. He had heard the Nurses talking out at their station that there was a 50/50 percentage that he could have temporary paralysis from the waist down. The nurse entered his room, gave him a serious, deep look, straight into the eyes, and he heard her slowly say, “For now, you may not feel anything from the waist down.” Somehow Buzzard managed to mumble in reply, “Can I feel your boobs, then?”
Two women in their early 50’s pass away and meet up for the first time in Eternity. They hadn’t seen each other for quite some time. SYLVIA: Hi! Wanda. WANDA: Hi! Sylvia. How’d you die? SYLVIA: I froze to death. WANDA: How horrible! SYLVIA: It wasn’t so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you? WANDA: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV. SYLVIA: So, what happened? WANDA: I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died. SYLVIA: Too bad you didn’t look in the freezer -- we’d both still be alive. ______________________________________________

He asked his wife Tilly if she would go to Home Depot and pick up a hinge. Tilly agreed to go. While she was waiting for the manager to finish serving a customer, her eye caught a beautiful bathroom faucet. When the manager was finished, Tilly asked him, “How much is that faucet?” The manager replied, “That’s a gold plated faucet and the price is $500.00.” Tilly exclaimed, “My goodness, that’s an expensive faucet and certainly out of my price range!” She then proceeded to describe the hinge that Charlie had sent her to buy. The manager said that he had them in stock and went into the storeroom to get one. From the storeroom the manager yelled, “Ma’am, you wanna’ screw for that hinge? Good Ol Boys MC
May 24 (Santa Rosa) During Memorial day Weekend, the Good Ol’ Boys MC were doing what bikers do best - raising money for some very worthy causes. If you have been around these guys much then you will probably already know that our veterans will always get the respect and appreciation that they so much deserve. This run was organized 4 years ago and has been a huge success from its inception. Located at the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa which is a large building with a huge parking lot to accommodate the hundreds of motorcycles that was rolling in. This year they also invited their car friends to come too and have a show and shine as part of the event. At 11am the kickstands went up and the massive pack of bikes rolled out for the first stop of the day that was fittingly the Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Here the entire pack stopped in to pay respect to the military veterans that are laid to rest here with a full on color guard and Mark Olesen playing taps on his bugle that put a lump in just about everybody’s throat. The Good Ol’ Boys MC had provided buckets full of white carnations for riders to take and leave one at the grave site of a veteran at the end of the ceremony. I can only imagine what it must have been like
to be a family member of one of those vets that showed up the next day to visit their loved ones grave and to find this memento of appreciation for their loved ones sacrifice to all of us. After the pack left the cemetery, it was a scenic ride around Sonoma County then returning back to the Veterans Memorial Building for a delicious steak dinner and live music from a favorite local band, Blue Rock Country Club. The parking lot was full of vendors, pin-up girls and some of the local roller derby girls skating around selling raffle tickets for the mountain of donated raffle prizes that were up for grabs. Inside the full bar was open for business and busy as the thirsty bikers were keeping the bartenders hopping. Just as we were leaving the event, we met up with James Howard, a member of the Freedom Riders MC from Kelseyville. James wanted us to see his memorial tattoo on his back. It is a big back piece that pays homage to his dad who was killed in Vietnam in 1964 when James was a toddler. James told us that he visits his dad’s grave every Memorial Day and shares a shot of whiskey with him as he pours out some Makers Mark for his dad to make a symbolic toast. Talking to James you know right away that it is still an emotional topic for him,

but over the years his emotions have ranged from anger for his dad for leaving him at such a young age - to an appreciation for his sacrifices that he made for him and all the rest of us too. James’s story really made an impression on me and as we headed home, I realized that I had just been reminded that this is what this day is really all about. So next year while you are barbequing with your friends, please take a moment to reflect on the families out there that are survivors of the hard realities of what it takes to protect our country. Be respectful as there will always be an empty spot at their dinner table for a loved one that never made it home. Proceeds from the days efforts went to benefit the American Legion, Vet-Connect, AM Vets and Vietnam Vets. Our hats are off to the Good Ol’ Boys MC and all of their volunteers that made this such a huge success and a heartwarming and very fun day for those that attended. irst and foremost, let me begin by saying my mom who’s turning 91 in May had riding in her blood too. I’ve enclosed a photo of her (doesn’t she look like a pin up chick?) She’s on her 1938 or 1939 Knucklehead that her and my blood daddy got for $50! He brought it home, this is her first moment sitting on it before they had to cut the pipe down on her solo seat (that was a gorgeous leather) and they took off the next morning and rode all the way from Seattle, WA to Bismarck, ND!!!!!! So riding is in our blood for sure. I started riding in 1974. My 1974 Shovelhead (that my ex said if I could kick start it ~it’s mine….took me three terrible bruises from the bottom of my leg to above my knee being tossed over from the kick and a couple of weeks)…but, I did it. Man that was a Kodak moment, seeing him run out of the apartment as I took off and made him eat crow. Lived in Seattle at the time, and there was only two women that I ever knew of that rode their own bikes. Myself and a chick by the name of Sportster Lori who obviously rode a sporty. Yep, rode all over, rode crazy, and rode hard. I thank God I’m here to write! Rain didn’t stop us then (after all I was 24 yrs old!) well, it wasn’t really rain more of a mist but cold we were used to. I was actually camping with about 300 bikers the weekend Mount St Helen blew! That ash ruined a lot of bikes that day. Anyway I rode that until I had my daughter in 1982, so HE decided to sell my bike and needless to say I was divorced 3 year later. Fast forward 25 years later. The year was 2007, when I met my Mr. Wonderful hubby,
Jerry. We met and haven’t been apart since then. (Thank you Yahoo Personals) When I met Jerry, he was riding a 2002 Electra Classic which he has since then got himself a nice 2008 Road King, but also he rides his original 1978 Shovehead that he is the original owner of. I started packing everywhere with him. When the weekends came up we were gone! I was working and driving was getting expensive because gas was over $5/gallon. So in 2008, I mentioned to Jerry that I think I’m going to find me a little motorcycle to ride back and forth because it was costing me anywhere from $60-$75 a week in my car . The next thing I knew Jerry emailed me at work and all I saw in the subject line was “You want another Harley”? I almost passed out. I opened it up and there’s 3 photos of HDs, sporty style with him ‘just sayin’ it’s been years since

you rode and you’re a little younger LOL, how about starting and refreshing on something like this? So he bought me a 2002 Sportster 883. I never ever thought I would ever have my own again. He made my dream come true. I jumped on it and rode it back and forth to work and everywhere for almost 3 years. For a long time though, as we were riding around, going to Spring/Fall Vibrations, Hollister, etc. I started feeling like it was time for me to finally get back my big panties and I wanted to upgrade. So when I retired in 2011….I had 2 choices in my mind that I wanted to do. I knew I couldn’t do both…financially…I always wanted to get rid of my wrinkles on my face and I wanted to get a white HD. So I really did ponder for about……30 seconds and said screw it! Jerry and I started looking at Dynas. I like that model the best for so many reasons, but didn’t feel at home until I found my 2005 Dyna Lowrider, white, low miles, and just fell immediately in love when I pulled up at dudes house. It was everything to keep composed, but when he lifted the door, I threw on my boots to make sure I just found my ride, the foot plant was immediate and there it was…..wait for it.......... my warm and fuzzy feeling . I was dialing Jerry at the same time and told him ‘get the money and come over here.’ I’ve been riding it ever since. I’ve ridden to Reno, Hollister, and on my bucket list of course is Sturgis when hubby retires in a few years. I ride to my moms, grocery stores, movies, tons of poker runs, always hanging around Sacramento or Folsom Harley….and if you look closely, I’m riding with my hubbys original 1978 fringe saddlebags!!!! I have someone each and everytime I am riding tell me how nice my ride is and how lucky I am. And I always smile, say thank you and then say “ I worked really hard now it’s my turn to play really hard.” And I do ……… ……Rubber Up~
