We are in a moment of great uncertainty. Not only politics, but above all economic. It is clear that authorities, for their part, tend to declarations that push for optimism with regard to growth and economic recovery, on the other hand, is equally true that if Europe has resumed, this resumption is made less stable by a number of non-secondary factors. In the first place, obviously, employement, with the rise in the number of jobs overcrowded by the increase in part-time contracts, in the name of a “less work, work all”, but largely fails to figure out the rise in youth employment. The political and economic framework is another element of deep uncertainty: increasing protectionism, especially in America, but not only, does European companies have on average more than 10% more customs barriers than just a couple of years ago, a figure that alone expresses much more than so many speeches. Even Brexit, which falls apart, does not have a definite connotation, and creates uncertainty, as well as political elections, which have recently taken place in France and very close in the Netherlands and Germany. The political situation in South America, not only in Venezuela, but also in Colombia and Brazil, is another element to be considered in a mid-year budget that can not fail to present many unknowns.

The recovery, therefore, is written in the numbers, which for the world of machine tools means + 1.8% over the previous year, but is not carved in the minds and hearts of operators who still fear a recurrence of the crisis.

After the summer break, there will be the great appointment of EMO Hannover, will be the occasion to meet and listen to the moods and hopes of the companies. As always, we will be in the front row: you will find us in Hall 15 at stand E84. We are waiting for you.

Siamo in un momento di grande incertezza. Non solo politica, ma soprattutto economica. È chiaro che le autorità, dal canto loro, propendono per dichiarazioni che spingono all’ottimismo per quanto concerne la crescita e la ripresa economica, dall’altra parte è altrettanto vero che se l’Europa ha ripreso a crescere, questa ripresa è resa meno stabile da una serie di fattori non secondari. Al primo posto, evidentemente, il lavoro, con l’aumento degli occupati sopravanzato dall’aumento dei contratti part-time, all’insegna di un “lavorare meno, lavorare tutti” che però in gran parte fa sbiadire le cifre sull’incremento dell’occupazione giovanile. Il quadro politico-economico è un altro elemento di profonda incertezza: il crescente protezionismo, soprattutto in America, ma non solo, fa sì che le aziende europee incontrino in media il 10% in più di barriere doganali rispetto anche solo ad un paio di anni fa, una cifra che da sola esprime molto più di tanti discorsi. Anche la Brexit che incombe senza peraltro assumere una connotazione definita, genera incertezza, così come le elezioni politiche, da poco svolte in Francia e vicinissime in Olanda e Germania. Anche la situazione politica in SudAmerica, non soltanto in Venezuela, ma anche in Colombia e Brasile, è un altro elemento da considerare in un bilancio di metà anno che non può non presentare numerose incognite.

La ripresa, dunque, è scritta nei numeri, che per il mondo delle macchine utensili significa +1,8% rispetto all’anno precedente, ma non è scolpita nelle menti e nei cuori degli operatori che ancora temono una recrudescenza della crisi.

Dopo la pausa estiva, ci sarà il grande appuntamento di EMO Hannover, sarà l’occasione per incontrarsi e ascoltare umori e speranze delle aziende. Come sempre, noi saremo in prima fila: ci troverete nella Hall 15, allo stand E84. Vi aspettiamo.

New processes in cable industry at Wire 2018 The wire, cable and wire-processing industries and the wire 2018 trade fair Wire and wire-based products – i.e. cables, springs, screws and bolts – can be found almost everywhere. No technical systems could function without them, and neither would there be any technical progress. As the demands on technical systems are growing, the performance of such components is gradually being stretched further and further.

Wire products must provide reliable service even under the most challenging conditions. They are used, for example, in automotive engineering – an industry that drives innovation in the wire industry.

A modern car has nearly 1,000 springs, and their reliable operation has a major impact on safety and passenger comfort. Springs are often expected to perform at the highest level, e.g. in the valves which they cause to close in a combustion engine. Situated within a four-stroke engine, a valve spring must cope with up to 10 billion movements throughout a mileage of 120,000 (200,000 kilometres).

In addition to mechanical strain, a valve spring must also withstand extreme heat, hot gases and substantial temperature fluctuations. If a spring breaks, it is likely to cause severe engine damage.

Other important wire products are screws and bolts, as so many components are connected in this way. A modern vehicle has over 1,000 screw fittings and bolted connections, of which 250 to 300 can be found inside the engine. It’s a place where up to 150 different types of screws and bolts are in use. All of them must have very narrowly defined tolerances in terms of physical properties, and they must also be convenient to insert and assemble, so that automated processing can largely proceed undisturbed.

Metal mesh, too, plays a major role. Made either from stainless steel wire or from certain non-ferrous metals, it is used, among other things, for filtering exhaust gas from combustion engines, thus helping to reduce carbon monoxide and particulate emissions. In an exhaust gas recirculation system such a filter ensures that particles from the combustion process or from the particulate trap cannot reach the turbocharger or engine, where this would have negative consequences. The stainless steel wire in a metal mesh has a thickness of only 35 µm, so that it is thinner than a human hair. Moreover, it can bear temperatures of 800°C and indeed more.

One of the most complex, most expensive and heaviest components in a modern vehicle is its on-board electrical system, once referred to as wiring harness. This is where the cables are assembled – cables which supply the ever increasing electrical and electronic components of a vehicle with power, while others transmit electronic signals.

The VW Beetle, built around 1950, was equipped with a handy wiring harness that weighed no more than a few kilograms and whose cables had a total length of about 80 metres, with just over 70 electrical components connected to them. By contrast, today’s on-board electrical systems comprise up to 4,000 cables, with a length of up to 3.7 miles (6 km) and up to 60 kilograms in weight. Electric and hybrid vehicles are especially demanding on the cable

harness and the cables. Some cables have a high voltage of up to 1,000 volt and must withstand far higher currents and higher temperatures than their predecessors.

Nessun sistema tecnico potrebbe funzionare senza di essi, né ci sarebbe stato alcun progresso tecnico.

Dato che le esigenze dei sistemi tecnici crescono, le prestazioni di tali componenti vengono gradualmente incrementate. I prodotti del filo devono fornire un servizio affidabile anche nelle condizioni più difficili.

Esse vengono utilizzate, ad esempio, nell’ingegneria automobilistica un’industria che guida l’innovazione nel settore del filo.

Una moderna automobile ha quasi 1.000 molle e il loro affidabile funzionamento ha un impatto importante sulla sicurezza e il comfort dei passeggeri. Spesso si prevede che le molle funzionino ai massimi livelli di sollecitazione, ad es. nelle valvole che provocano la chiusura in un motore a combustione. Situata all’interno di un motore a quattro tempi, una valvola a molla deve affrontare fino a 10 miliardi di movimenti per

120.000 miglia (200.000 chilometri).

Oltre a sollecitazioni meccaniche, una molla a valvola deve resistere anche a temperature estreme, gas caldi e notevoli fluttuazioni di temperatura. Se si rompe una molla, è probabile che provochi gravi danni al motore.

Altri prodotti metallici importanti sono viti e bulloni, in quanto moltissimi componenti sono collegati così.

Un veicolo moderno ha più di 1000 raccordi a vite e connessioni bullonate, di cui 250-300 sono collocate all’interno del motore. È un luogo dove vengono utilizzati fino a 150 diversi tipi di viti e bulloni. Tutti devono avere tolleranze molto limitate in termini di proprietà fisiche, e devono anche essere facili da inserire e assemblare, in modo che il montaggio automatizzato può in gran parte procedere fluidamente.

Anche la maglia metallica svolge un ruolo importante. Realizzata sia con filo in acciaio inox che con metalli non ferrosi, viene utilizzato, tra l’altro, per il filtraggio di gas di scarico dai motori a combustione, contri-

buendo così a ridurre le emissioni di monossido di carbonio e di particolato. In un sistema di ricircolo di gas di scarico tale filtro garantisce che le particelle provenienti dal processo di combustione o dalla trappola del particolato non possono raggiungere il turbocompressore o il motore, laddove ciò avrebbe conseguenze negative. Il filo in acciaio inox in una maglia metallica ha uno spessore di soli 35 μm, cioè è più sottile di un capello umano. Inoltre, può sopportare temperature di 800 ° C e più.

Uno dei componenti più complessi, più costosi e più pesanti in un veicolo moderno è il suo sistema elettrico, anticamente chiamato cablaggio. E’ qui che vengono assemblati i cavi - cavi che alimentano i sempre più sviluppati componenti elettrici ed elettronici di un veicolo, mentre altri trasmettono segnali elettronici.

Il Maggiolino VW, costruito intorno al 1950, è stato dotato di un pratico cablaggio che pesava non più di pochi chilogrammi, mentre i cavi avevano una lunghezza totale di circa 80 metri, con poco più di 70 componenti elettrici collegati a loro. Al contrario, oggi i sistemi elettrici a bordo comprendono fino a 4.000 cavi, con una lunghezza fino a 6 miglia e fino a 60 chilogrammi di peso. I veicoli elettrici e ibridi sono particolarmente impegnativi sul cablaggio dei cavi e sui cavi. Alcuni cavi hanno un’elevata tensione fino a 1.000 volt e devono sopportare correnti molto più alte e temperature superiori rispetto ai loro predecessori.

Are machine tools safe?

Depends on it!

The EMO Hannover 2017 will be hosting an EMO Safety Day The safety of machine tools is a major issue. Complex machinery, high speeds, and high power levels can be a dangerous mixture for the operator. Nevertheless, machine tools are very safe products. Many stakeholders have been collaborating for a long time to reach the current safety level: machine tool manufacturers, operators, health and safety experts, EU policy-makers and international standardisation groups.

At the Safety Day for Machine Tools at EMO Hannover 2017, top experts will present their insights on the requirements and challenges entailed by the current state of the art, mapping out how practical solutions ensure high levels of safety and elucidating what remains to be done in the future.

It is a remarkable story: “For many decades, our companies have proven that they can handle the risks that come with the operation of machine tools”, explains Heinrich Mödden, a machinery safety expert at the EMO organizer VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association). Certainly there is a lot of work still needed, but, as Mr. Mödden continues, “it pays off, as the number of accidents is continuously declining.” This shows that a high level of

safety has already been achieved with traditional design practices.

Machine tools: Safety Inside!

A large contribution to this gratifying trend has to be attributed to European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (MD), which was issued in 1993 and aimed at levelling the safety standards for machinery across the European Union. “The EU Machinery Directive has been a success story, making working environments significantly safer and reducing hazards”, says Felicia Stoica, policy officer for the Machinery Directive at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Growth. “The involvement of all stakeholders in the machinery sector, especially manufacturers and their equipment suppliers, has ensured that the actions taken are practicable and beneficial.”

The MD takes manufacturers of machine tools into its focus, too, and they have to conduct risk assessments for their design. Since the first version of the MD was established, there have been considerable alterations in the standardization environment covered by this directive and in particular to risk assessment. As a result, the safety requirements are still being animatedly discussed, e.g. the reliability of mechatronics in safety functions.

At the EMO Safety Day on 19 September in Hanover experts from different professions demonstrate how safe machine tools are.

EXHIBITION - FIERE Following strict subsidiarity, such rules for safety measures are formulated by expert panels in standardisation processes. For machine tools, this work is being performed on a global ISO level. Hence, many of the international market actors are negotiating about the state of the art. “Machine safety evokes strong involvement of companies or authorities. It can be a tough job to find a consensus”, states Christian Neumeister, secretary of the ISO working group for safety of milling machines. “But in the end, we usually find compromises to satisfy the demands of health and safety authorities and keep the effort involved for the industrial sector to an acceptable level.”

As a consequence, not only the aspects of machine manufacturers are to be discussed, but also the vital connection to the equipment suppliers, as well as the reflections of occupational safety executives arising from their field experience.

The expected conclusion of the EMO Safety Day is also an appeal to all worldwide manufacturers to ensure that machine tools which are being designed in accordance to the relevant product safety standards and which are also being operated in accordance with their intended use can be considered safe!

Functional safety: the next big thing Functional safety means that safety has to be proven by quantification of failure probabilities. For machine tools, this is quite difficult, as hazards can be high, even though they occur very rarely. In a scientific study that the VDW organized on behalf of its member bodies, Nika Nowizki from the University of Stuttgart analysed the running times of 578 multi-spindle automatic lathes with a total of 3951 spindles using mostly standard PLC controllers. These produced not a single safety-related accident in over 93,333,000 machine hours of operation evaluated since 1992. “We were happy to see that our gut feeling was scientifically reconfirmed” smiles Eberhard Beck, Head of Machine Control Design at the lathe manufacturer Index in Esslingen, Germany. “It shows that our high safety level is attributable not only to single components, but to our long-term empirical design principles according to product safety standards, which are proven-in-use.”

Still, many safety subjects need further insights. For example, the recent development of turning operations on milling centres is causing uncertainty among manufacturers and their customers as to whether the proven-in-use argument for machine tools remains valid for the future. An intermediate conclusion is that this is only possible when the suppliers of clamping devices are involved.

Another subject is market surveillance. Machine tools are complex products, usually custom-built, and too large and expensive for lab testing. This means it is difficult to determine on-site if the design is compliant with safety regulations. In particular, market surveillance authorities lack qualified personnel and time to investigate. One concept to help market surveillance authorities in doing their job is the CE Guides on Machine Tool Safety published by Cecimo, the European Machine Tool Association. In simple words, with instructive illustrations, they spotlight the important aspects involved. “If we want to have a level playing field with all market participants, we need to assist market surveillance authorities in doing their job better”, points out Maitane Olabarria of Cecimo. After sawing and EDM machines, the recently finished safety standard for milling machines, ISO 16090, triggered the publication of a new guide to be presented at EMO Hannover.

Le macchine utensili sono sicure? Dipende!

L’EMO Hannover 2017 ospiterà una giornata dedicata alla sicurezza La sicurezza delle macchine utensili è una questione importante. Macchine complesse, alte velocità e livelli di potenza elevati possono essere una miscela pericolosa per l’operatore.

Tuttavia, le macchine utensili sono prodotti molto sicuri. Molti stakeholder hanno collaborato per molto tempo per raggiungere l’attuale livello di sicurezza: produttori di utensili per macchine utensili, operatori, esperti in materia di salute e sicurezza, responsabili politici dell’UE e gruppi di standardizzazione internazionali.

Alla Giornata della Sicurezza delle attrezzature e dei macchinari di EMO Hannover 2017, i migliori esperti presenteranno le proprie conoscenze sulle necessità e le sfide che caratterizzano l’attuale stato dell’arte, illustrando come le soluzioni pratiche garantiscano alti livelli di sicurezza e spiegando ciò che resta da fare in futuro. È una storia straordinaria: “Per molti decenni le nostre aziende hanno dimostrato di poter gestire i rischi che provengono dal funzionamento di macchine utensili”, spiega Heinrich Mödden, esperto di sicurezza meccanica presso l’organizzatore EMO VDW (Associazione dei produttori tedeschi di macchine utensili).

Certamente c’è molto lavoro ancora da fare, ma, prosegue Mödden, “è un lavoro che paga, in quanto il numero di incidenti continua a diminuire”.

Ciò dimostra che un alto livello di sicurezza è già stato raggiunto con le tradizionali metodologie di progettazione.

Macchine utensili: sicurezza all’interno!

Un grande contributo a questa positiva tendenza deve essere attribuito alla Direttiva Macchine Europea 2006/42 / CE (MD), emanata nel 1993, volta a uniformare le norme

di sicurezza per le macchine in tutta l’Unione Europea. “La direttiva sui macchinari dell’UE è stata una storia di successo, rendendo gli ambienti di lavoro più sicuri e riducendo i pericoli”, afferma Felicia Stoica, responsabile politico della Direttiva Macchine alla Direzione Generale per la Crescita della Commissione Europea. Il coinvolgimento di tutto il settore dei macchinari, in particolare i produttori e i loro fornitori di attrezzature, ha assicurato che le azioni intraprese siano praticabili e vantaggiose “.

La DM prende in considerazione anche i produttori di macchine utensili che devono effettuare valutazioni di rischio per il loro design. A partire dalla prima versione della DM, sono state apportate notevoli modifiche

nell’ambiente di normalizzazione oggetto di questa direttiva e in particolare alla valutazione del rischio. Di conseguenza, i requisiti di sicurezza sono ancora al centro di una discussione animata, ad es. l’affidabilità della meccatronica nelle funzioni di sicurezza.

Seguendo una sussidiarietà rigorosa, tali norme per le misure di sicurezza sono formulate da gruppi di esperti nei processi di normalizzazione. Per le macchine utensili, questo lavoro viene eseguito su un livello ISO globale. Quindi, molti degli attori del mercato internazionale stanno negoziando sullo stato dell’arte. “La sicurezza delle macchine comporta un forte coinvolgimento di aziende o autorità. EXHIBITION - FIERE Sicurezza funzionale: la prossima cosa importante La sicurezza funzionale significa che la sicurezza deve essere dimostrata mediante la quantificazione delle probabilità di guasto. Per le macchine utensili questo è abbastanza difficile, poiché i pericoli possono essere elevati, anche se si verificano molto raramente. In uno studio scientifico che la VDW ha organizzato per conto dei suoi organi membri, Nika Nowizki dell’Università di Stoccarda ha analizzato i tempi di esecuzione di 578 torni automatici multi-mandrino con un totale di 3951 mandrini che utilizzano principalmente controllori standard PLC. Questi non hanno prodotto un singolo incidente connesso alla sicurezza in oltre 93.333.000 ore di macchina valutate a partire dal 1992. “Siamo stati felici di vedere che la nostra sensazione intuitiva è stata riconfermata scientificamente” sorride Eberhard Beck, responsabile della progettazione di strutture di controllo presso il produttore di torni Index in Esslingen , Germania. “Dimostra che il nostro elevato livello di sicurezza è attribuibile non solo ai singoli componenti, ma ai nostri principi di progettazione empirica a lungo termine secondo gli standard di sicurezza dei prodotti, che sono stati testati sul campo”.

Tuttavia, molti soggetti di sicurezza necessitano di ulteriori approfondimenti. Ad esempio, il recente sviluppo delle operazioni di tornitura sui centri di lavoro sta causando incertezza tra i produttori e i loro clienti sul fatto che la caratteristica di „testato sul campo“delle macchine utensili rimanga valida per il futuro. Una conclusione intermedia è che questo è possibile solo quando sono coinvolti i fornitori di dispositivi di bloccaggio.

Un altro argomento è la sorveglianza del mercato.

Le macchine utensili sono prodotti complessi, solitamente personalizzati e troppo grandi e costosi per i test di laboratorio. Ciò significa che è difficile determinare in loco se il progetto è conforme alle norme di sicurezza. In particolare, le autorità di sorveglianza del mercato mancano di personale

qualificato e di tempo per indagare.

Un concetto per aiutare le autorità di sorveglianza del mercato nel fare il loro lavoro è la guida CE sulla sicurezza delle macchine utensili pubblicata da Cecimo, la European Machine Tool Association. In parole semplici, con illustrazioni esplicative, mette in luce gli importanti aspetti coinvolti.

“Se vogliamo avere un campo di parità con tutti i partecipanti al mercato, dobbiamo aiutare le autorità di sorveglianza del mercato a fare meglio il proprio lavoro”, sottolinea Maitane Olabarria di Cecimo.

Dopo la segatrici e le macchine EDM, lo standard di sicurezza recentemente definito per le fresatrici, ISO 16090, ha attivato la pubblicazione di una nuova guida che sarà presentata alla EMO di Hannover. “La vicinanza alla fiera EMO permette di mostrare come i concetti di progettazione dei moderni utensili meccanici siano stati nuovamente migliorati”, conclude Mödden. Di conseguenza, non devono essere affrontati solo gli aspetti relativi ai costruttori di macchine, ma anche la connessione vitale ai fornitori di apparecchiature, nonché le riflessioni dei dirigenti di sicurezza sul lavoro derivanti dalla loro esperienza sul campo.

La conclusione prevista della Giornata della Sicurezza EMO è anche un appello a tutti i produttori di tutto il mondo per assicurare che le macchine utensili progettate secondo le norme vigenti di sicurezza del prodotto e utilizzate secondo il loro utilizzo previsto possano essere considerate sicure!

Outstanding success for 4th Valve World Americas Expo Fourth Valve World Americas expo & conference a resounding success!

The fourth staging of Valve World Americas Expo & Conference was held on June 20th and 21st at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. There were a total of 4,141 attendees for the entire event, including nearly 450 conference delegates.

The successful two-day event was attended by professionals from all over the world including Canada, the United States, Europe, India and more. These international delegates were a great mix of Valve Subject Matter Experts, Procurement Managers, Piping Engineers and Materials Specialists, including representatives from such influential companies as Fluor, The Dow Chemical Company, Jacobs Engineering, Shell and many others.

Held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the event was well-attended by visitors who enjoyed walking the exhibition floor and speaking with knowledgeable exhibitors. Visitors and exhibitors alike were able to network and obtain quality leads. In total, over 300 companies exhibited as part of the event. Also located in the heart of the Expo Floor were the two speakers’ Corner stages, which hosted presenters who discussed a variety of topics and performed live demonstrations including Partial Stroke Actuator Devices, Dynamic Gasket Recovery to Eliminate

The conference, which ran concurrently with the exhibition, began each day with plenary lectures given by representatives from The Dow Chemical Company, Emerson Automation Solutions, United Valve, A.W. Chesterton, Fluor, Bray International and The American Petroleum Institute (API). Conference sessions were filled with interested delegates who challenged the speakers with educated and thoughtful questions and many in-depth discussions followed. It was thrilling to see industry professionals sharing ideas and collaborating on important industry topics such as castings & materials, maintenance & repair, supply chain management, fugitive emissions, control valve reliability predication, valve design, cryogenics, actuation & automation, performance & validation and partial stroke testing. In total there were 14 different workshops with approximately 60 individual workshop presentations.

Additionally on June 19th, the day before the conference officially began, six informative courses were held on the following topics: Valve Essentials, Fugitive Emissions, Pump Basics, Grow Your Career in the Valve Industry, Social Media in the Valve Industry and Fluid Sealing Association Short Courses. Each of these courses were filled with interested participants who learned a lot from each of the sessions.

Un successo per la quarta edizione di Valve World Americas a Houston Un grande successo per la quarta fiera internazionale delle valvole delle Americhe La quarta edizione di Valve World Americas Expo & Conference si è svolta il 20 e il 21 giugno presso il George R. Brown Convention Center di Houston, Texas. Ci sono stati un totale di 4.141 partecipanti per l’intero evento, inclusi quasi 450 delegati della conferenza.

L’evento di successo a due giorni ha partecipato professionisti provenienti da tutto il mondo tra cui il Canada, gli Stati Uniti, l’Europa, l’India e altro ancora. Questi delegati internazionali rappresentavano un ottimo mix di esperti di materie prime di Valve, Procurement Managers, Piping Engineers e Specialists Materials, tra cui rappresentanti di influenti aziende quali Fluor, The Dow Chemical Company, Jacobs Engineering, Shell e molti altri.

Tenutosi presso il George R. Brown Convention Center, l’evento è stato molto affollato da visitatori che visitato la fiera parlando con gli espositori.

I visitatori e gli espositori hanno potuto costruire reti e di ottenere ritorni di qualità dagli incontri. In totale, oltre 300 aziende hanno preso parte all’evento come espositori. Cuore dell’Expo, l’angolo degli speaker, dove ospiti di grande livello hanno dibattuto vari di argomenti ed hanno eseguito dimostrazioni dal vivo, tra cui tra cui attuatori “partial stroke”, guarnizioni di ripristino dinamiche per eliminare le perdite da giunzioni bullonate, dimostrazioni di drill&tap, demo di prova e come utilizzare l’iniezione di tenuta su una valvola.

Il convegno, che si è svolto in contemporanea all’expo, è iniziato ogni giorno con relazioni in sessioni plenarie da parte di rappresentanti della Dow Chemical Company, Emerson Automation Solutions, United Valve,

A.W. Chesterton, Fluor, Bray International e l’American Petroleum Institute (API). Le varie sessioni su cui è stato articolato il congresso sono state affollate di delegati interessati che hanno messo a dura prova gli oratori con numerose domande e hanno dato vita molte discussioni approfondite. E’ stato emozionante vedere professionisti del settore condividere idee e collaborare su importanti temi del settore, come fusioni e materiali, manutenzione e riparazione, gestione della catena di approvvigionamento, le emissioni non controllate, controllo di affidabilità delle valvole, la progettazione delle valvole, criogenia, l’azionamento e automazione, prestazioni e validazione e collaudo “partial stroke”. In totale ci sono stati 14 diversi workshop con circa 60 presentazioni di individuali.

Inoltre il 19 giugno, il giorno prima dell’apertura ufficiale del convegno, si sono svolti sei corsi informativi sui seguenti argomenti: Valve Essentials, le emissioni diffuse, nozioni di base della pompa, sviluppare la carriera nel settore della valvola, Social Media nel settore delle valvole e il sigillante a corsa breve. Ognuno di questi corsi è stato affollato da partecipanti interessati che hanno appreso molto da ciascuna delle sessioni.

In February 2017, Victrex announced a new joint venture, TxV Aero Composites, with Tri-Mack plastics to accelerate the commercial adoption of polyketone (PAEK*) composite applications within the aerospace industry, through the manufacture of selected parts utilising new and innovative processes. ART MADE OF TUBES IN MILAN AND LUXEMBOURG Between Milan and Luxembourg, the combination of tubes and contemporary art has been renewed, which has been through the decades of artistic research - from Andy Warhol forward, ranging from light study to the most disparate installations, from poor art made of recycled materials to street art.

Since November, the “new” Gae Aulenti square in Milan, elevated 6 meters above the city floor and at the foot of the higher building in Italy, houses the 23 plated brass tubes that make up the first permanent urban work of Alberto Garutti, an intervention that deals with the surrounding architecture and creates a new public space for participation and meeting.

Silver ventilation tubes suspended on the commercial streets of the city as the clouds constitute the “Air Deluxe” installation, created by the duo of Anglo-German artists Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen, alias HeHe, which until September 5th will be housed in rue Philippe-II and Avenue de la Porte-Neuve in Luxembourg. “It is a poetic metaphor of fresh air that has become a luxury product for many cities in the world,” explain the two artists who denounce “man’s illusory and utopian will to tamper with nature and to control all the problems at once climate. “ ARTE FATTA DI TUBI A MILANO E LUSSEMBURGO Tra Milano e Lussemburgo, si rinnova il binomio tra tubi e arte contemporanea, che ha attraversato gli ultimi decenni della ricerca artistica - da Andy Warhol in avanti, spaziando dallo studio della luce e alle più disparate installazioni, dall’arte povera fatta con materiali di riciclo alla street art.

Un salto in avanti per i lubrificanti dei tubi saldati I tubi e le tubature prodotti dalla tecnologia di saldatura ad alta frequenza richiedono una grande quantità di refrigerante lungo la linea di saldatura. Il liquido di raffreddamento è solitamente diluito in acqua ad una concentrazione compresa tra il 2% e il 10%. Ogni riduzione dell’1% della concentrazione può portare ad avere grandi risparmi dopo soli pochi mesi.

Con questo obiettivo in testa, Condat ha sviluppato prodotti specifici sotto il nome di CONDATUB SL per servire specificamente questa applicazione a basse concentrazioni. Lo stesso prodotto può essere utilizzato in diverse fasi di produzione: lubrificazione dei rulli di formatura, raffreddamento del tubo durante e dopo la saldatura, lubrificazione durante la calibrazione, raffreddamento a taglio e protezione contro la corrosione a seconda dei requisiti del cliente.

EU, IT IS POSSIBLE TO TIGHTEN ANTI-DUMPING MEASURES ON SS PIPES The Defense Committee of the EU Seamless Steel Pipes Industry, named ESTA and representing 25% of EU producers, has asked the European Commission to review anti-dumping measures on seamless pipes coming from Russia and Ukraine.

The Commission considered that there were conditions for formal opening of the review process. The trial, which examines the period January 1 2016 - July 4, 2017, will be completed within 15 months.

UE, POSSIBILE INASPRIMENTO DELLE MISURE ANTIDUMPING SUI TUBI SS Il Comitato di difesa dell’industria dei tubi in acciaio senza saldatura dell’Unione Europea, che va sotto la sigla di ESTA e rappresenta il 25% dei produttori dell’UE, ha chiesto alla Commissione Europea la revisione delle misure antidumping sui tubi senza saldatura provenienti da Russia e Ucraina.

La Commissione ha ritenuto che ci fossero le condizioni per procedere all’apertura formale del processo di revisione dei dazi. Il processo, che prende in esame il periodo 1 gennaio 2016 - 4 luglio 2017, si dovrà concludere entro 15 mesi.

It can be applied to previous coats of organic or inorganic zinc-based paint. The standard paint system is: 1 coat 01EN00780 – EPOX PRIM GREY 780 SUPER (dry film thickness of 80 µm); 1 coat 9EE04757 – VINYLEPOX GREY 4757 E (dry film thickness of 150 µm); 1 finishing coat (GLENVER/ACRYBOND/VEREPOX depending on intended use) The above paint system passed a 1,500-hour test for exposure to saline fog (UNI EN ISO 9227 standard). Following the test, no evidence was seen of blistering on the paint surface, flaking, cracking, or great increase in rust (Ri-0). The Verinpaints technical service can define the most suitable paint specifications: depending on the type of item/structure to be treated; the conditions it will be exposed to; the customer’s paint systems and the type of requested anti-corrosion resistance class.

Surfaces painted with VINYLEPOX GREY 4757 E can be handled after 4 hours, additional coats can be added after 10 hours, and at up to three months without sanding. They include the high-performance plastics PFA-M and PFA. The new line produces up to 45,000 aluminum and steel parts per day and increases annual processing capacity by 70 percent.

The automotive industry in Mexico has been growing steadily in the recent years. To meet this increased demand, thyssenkrupp Materials de Mexico S.A. de C.V. expanded its operations in Silao, Guanajuato, by installing a state-ofthe-art Schuler blanking line featuring ServoDirect Technology. It produces up to 45,000 aluminum and steel parts per day and has increased the site’s annual processing capacity by 70 percent (up to 270,000 metric tons). “thyssenkrupp is proud to be the first supplier in Mexico to offer customers a combined blanking line for carbon steel and aluminum blank processing,” said Olaf Voss, President, thyssenkrupp Materials de Mexico. “The introduction of the Schuler blanking line has ensured we continue to offer customers cutting-edge capabilities to meet their growing needs.”

Since early 2016, the line has been processing aluminum and carbon steel for exposed and unexposed automotive applications, including high-strength steel up to 1,200 N/ mm² of tensile strength. Thus, allowing thyssenkrupp Materials de Mexico to meet the automotive industry’s needs for lightweight construction. Ranging from the coil line all the way to the stacker, Schuler supplied all the components, which are precisely coordinated and operated by a single control and safety system.

“When we sought to expand our Silao facility, we needed highly reliable machinery that met our increased capacity requirements,” explained Voss. “With its high degree of

automation, Schuler was a natural fit, as its line allows for quick product changes and smooth operation throughout the entire process.”

ServoDirect Technology ensures maximum flexibility and productivity At the heart of the line is a highly efficient 800 metric ton servo press with energy storage and an output rate of up to 75 strokes per minute. Depending on the type and size of the blank, productivity is increased by up to 150 percent, compared to a blanking line equipped with a conventional mechanical press, thanks to the programmable slide motion. Using optimized slide characteristics, Schuler’s ServoDirect Technology not only ensures maximum flexibility and productivity, but also keeps the wear on dies and machinery to a minimum. In addition, lines using this technology are ideally equipped to process the widest variety of material, such as aluminum or high-strength steels. Even surface-sensitive material can be handled safely on the same line at the highest production rates.

However, a highly productive press is only half the battle.

Coil feeding in front, as well as blank stacking behind the press need to be able to catch up: The coil line features a maximum coil speed of 120 meters per minute, and the roll feed with servo direct drive boasts an acceleration of up to 13 m/s². Belt cleaning devices and wipers all along the blanking line reduce cleaning intervals, with separate pairs of rolls for steel and aluminum, including automatic cleaning units with a quick-change system. The “Stop2Drop” stacking system at the end of the line guarantees high part quality without stopping marks and increased output rates for parts wider than 1,500 millimeters.

Since the beginning of 2016, the Schuler blanking line has been in operation at the Silao facility of thyssenkrupp Materials de Mexico.

AUTOMATIC PUNCHING LINE “TWIN” The TWIN punching machine with numerical control for tubes and tubings, it can be delivered in different versions.

In the 3-head version it can punch the four sides of a tubing at the same time and it can perform two different holes from one another. In the 4-head version it is possible to perform two different types of holes by using the 2 vertical heads.

In the programming it is possible to leave out the vertical or horizontal heads. This flexibility of Twin allows to perform different workings according to the various needs. The punching is performed quickly on the whole length of the tube, with a tolerance on the programmed quotas of ± 0,2 mm from the first to the last hole on a length of 3000 mm. The TWIN can be equipped with a bar bundle magazine, complete of a manipulator featuring a double clamp for the uploading and the unloading of the tubes, or as an alternative, with a N.C. manipulator with Cartesian axes , that collects the tubes to be punched from a pallet and once the cycle has ended it unloads them on a second pallet.

In both cases the punching line becomes fully automatic. Precise positioning, flexibility, productivity and safety are distinctive characteristics together with the first-rate quality of the components.

The safety of the operator is achieved among others thanks to a barrier of perimetric photo cells integrated with a system of heavyset nets that surround the machine on three sides.

Ralc Italia projects, builds and installs industrial machines for the processing of pipes in copper and steel and of aluminum profiles.

TruMark Series 6000, new direct diode laser TRUMPF develops a new technology for direct diode lasers and presents TruMark Series 6000 The laser and laser system manufacturer TRUMPF recently unveiled its TruDiode 4001.5 technology demonstrator at LASER World of PHOTONICS in Munich. Based on a new, patented technology known as Dense Wavelength Multiplexing (DWM), the 4 kW direct diode laser offers a brilliant beam quality of 5 mm•mrad, enabling it to be connected to a laser light cable with a core diameter of 150 µm. By way of comparison, commercially available direct diode lasers in the high-power segment typically have beam qualities of between 30 and 50 mm•mrad and are used with a 600 µm laser light cable.

Combining power into a single beam Diode lasers are based on individual diode emitters that typically have an output of just a few watts. To increase the output, multiple diode emitters are grouped into what are known as diode bars. To generate output power in the multi-kilowatt range, the current method is to spatially combine the beams from multiple diode bars and apply spectral multiplexing only to a limited extent. One of the results of this approach, however, is low beam quality. Commercially available direct diode lasers are predominantly used for soldering, heat conduction welding and surface processing, because these applications do not require high beam quality. Using the new DWM technology, a team of experts at TRUMPF has succeeded in generating a multiplexed laser beam with high beam quality by combining the outputs from individual diode emitters.

Compact and efficient Although the technology demonstrator showcased in Munich is a 4 kW system, TRUMPF’s initial plan is to push ahead with the development of a DWM TruDiode laser with an output of 1 or 2 kW. Offering a beam quality of 5 mm•mrad, the new direct diode lasers are suitable for both deep-penetration welding and remote welding. DWM TruDiode lasers eliminate the need for a “converting medium” such as a disk or fiber – and that makes them outstandingly compact, efficient and robust.

TruMark Series 6000: Taking laser marking to a new dimension One of the most impressive features of the new TruMark 6030 is its ability to shorten process times by up to 25 percent. To achieve this, the TRUMPF engineers boosted the available pulse energy and increased the average power on the workpiece to 25 watts. They also equipped the marking laser with a new Yb beam source for the very first time. This offers outstanding beam quality and high-power densities, enabling the laser to achieve clean ablation and high-contrast marking.

A new dimension Marking 3D parts previously required the use of indirect methods. But the new TruTops Mark 3.0 marking software makes life much easier for users. Based on the fully-featured 3D CAD marking system, the new TruMark 6030 is now perfectly capable of dealing with 3D surfaces on complex parts, all thanks to its ability to shift the focus point along the z-axis by up to 50 millimeters. Power densities remain just as high during this process, with no change in the laser parameters. As well as full 3D support, the new marking software also offers intuitive operation and a modular configuration.

The perfect perspective on the process Thanks to the VisionLine image processing software, the system can look through the lens directly at the marking process, enabling even greater precision. It identifies the actual location of the part based on defined contours and automatically keeps the marking content in the correct position. It can also detect the workpiece surface and set the correct working distance using the autofocus function.

VisionLine can scan Data Matrix codes, assess their quality, and document the results.

TruMark Series 6000, nuova tecnologia per laser a diodi da Trumpf TRUMPF sviluppa una nuova tecnologia per laser a diodi e presenta il TruMark Series 6000 TRUMPF, produttore di laser e sistemi laser, ha recentemente presentato il suo TruDiode 4001.5 al “LASER World of PHOTONICS” di Monaco.

Il sistema laser è basato su una nuova tecnologia brevettata denominata DWM – Moltiplicatore di lunghezza d’onda il laser a diodo diretto a 4 kW offre una qualità del fascio brillante di 5 µm • mrad, consentendo la connessione ad un cavo laser leggero con un diametro di 150 μm .

A titolo di confronto, i laser a diodi diretti, disponibili in commercio, nel segmento ad alta potenza solitamente hanno caratteristiche di fascio da 30 a 50 µm • mrad e vengono utilizzate con un cavo laser da 600 μm.

Combinare la potenza in un unico fascio I laser a diodi sono basati su singoli diodi emettitori che hanno solitamente un’uscita di pochi watt. Per aumentare l’output, multipli diodi emettitori sono raggruppati in quelli che sono chiamati banchi a diodi. Per poter generare una potenza di uscita nel range del multi-kilowatt, il metodo attuale è quello di combinare spazialmente i fasci generati da più banchi a diodi ed applicare solo in misura limitata il multiplexing spettrale. Tuttavia, uno dei migliori risultati di questo approccio è una bassa qualità del fascio. I laser a diodi, presenti in commercio, sono prevalentemente utilizzati per la saldatura a conduzione termica e la lavorazione delle superfici, in quanto queste ap-

plicazioni non richiedono una qualità elevata del fascio. Utilizzando la nuova tecnologia DWM, il team di esperti della TRUMPF è riuscito a generare un fascio laser multiplex con alta qualità del fascio combinando insieme tutte le uscite dei singoli diodi emettitori.

Compatto ed efficiente Nonostante la nuova tecnologia che è stata presentata e dimostrata a Monaco sia quella del sistema 4 kW, il piano iniziale della TRUMPF era quello di portare avanti lo sviluppo di un laser DWM TruDiode con una potenza di 1 o 2 kW. Con una qualità di raggio di 5 µm • mrad, i nuovi laser a diodi diretti sono adatti sia per la saldatura profonda, sia per la saldatura a distanza. I laser DWM TruDiode eliminano la necessità di un “mezzo intermedio” come un disco o una fibra - e questo li rende eccezionalmente compatti, efficienti e robusti.

A tal fine, gli ingegneri del TRUMPF hanno aumentato l’energia di impulso disponibile e hanno aumentato la potenza media sul pezzo da lavorare a 25 watt. Inoltre, per la prima volta, sono riusciti a dotare il laser di marcatura con una nuova fonte del fascio Yb. Questo offre una straordinaria qualità del fascio ed un’elevata densità di potenza, consentendo al laser di ottenere un’ablazione pulita e una marcatura ad alto contrasto.

Una migliore marcatura grazie ad una scalatura più efficiente L’output del TruMark 6030 può essere variato durante tutto il momento operativo senza variare le proprietà del laser. Il sistema intelligente misura l’uscita della pompa e del laser all’interno del laser stesso; un regolatore di potenza assicura che la marcatura del laser sia sempre realizzata con l’uscita desiderata.

Il fatto che ogni marcatura del laser abbia le stesse curve di rendimento rende facile per gli utenti aggiungere

una seconda linea di produzione, assicurando risultati sempre identici e costanti durante la marcatura anche dopo aver prodotto diversi milioni di pezzi.

Una nuova dimensione La marcatura di parti 3D richiedeva in precedenza l’uso di metodi indiretti. Ma il nuovo software di marcatura TruTops Mark 3.0 rende la vita molto più facile per gli utenti. Basato sul sistema di marcatura CAD 3D completamente funzionale, il nuovo TruMark 6030 è perfettamente in grado di trattare le superfici 3D anche su parti più complesse, grazie alla sua capacità di spostare il punto di messa a fuoco lungo l’asse Z fino a 50 millimetri. Durante questo processo le densità di potenza rimangono altrettanto elevate, senza alcuna modifica dei parametri laser. Oltre al supporto 3D completo, il nuovo software di marcatura offre anche un funzionamento intuitivo e una configurazione modulare.

delle immagini VisionLine, il sistema può guardare direttamente attraverso la lente anche durante la marcatura, consentendo quindi una maggiore precisione. Questo identifica la sua posizione effettiva in base ai contorni ben definiti, e mantiene in automatico il contenuto della marcatura nella posizione corretta. Può anche rilevare la superficie del pezzo e impostare la giusta distanza di lavoro utilizzando la funzione di autofocus.
