The Family Support Center of the Uintah Basin and the Utah Association of Family Support Centers was recently the recipient of a TANF grant through the Department of Workforce Services. In order to receive the grant, the Family Support Centers were expected to initiate more programs in the communities in which they provide their services. Each center started programs they thought would be helpful to their areas. The center located in Roosevelt will be providing some new services, and enhancing services already in effect. They started High Hopes, a Parent Support and Education program. There is NO charge for any of the programs provided. • Active Parenting skills for families, taught by Pam Bird, is an evidencebased program which has been taught at the Family Support Center for many years. It is a 4 week course covering different age groups, and is taught on 3 different days each week. Tuesday group is for families of children ages 1-4. Wednesday group is for families of children 5-12. Thursday group is for families of teenagers. Each lesson is adapted for the different age groups and teaches parents how to help their children learn to survive and thrive in the world in which they live. • Kids with Incredible Potential is a program designed to help parents struggling alongside a child with behavior disorders focusing on ADHD. This program, taught by Pamala Draper, is designed for children that are hyperactive, defiant, easily distracted, quick to anger, frequently forgetful, have difficulty playing with others, organizing tasks, etc. This class is for parents or caregivers for any child with behavior issues regardless of diagnosis. These classes last 8 consecutive weeks, and will be one day a week. A monthly support group will be offered to keep information fresh and help each other along the way. Topics will cover IEPs, anger management, building bonds, selfesteem, and individual struggles or issues. • Stronger Together is a support group for people with a loved one battling addiction. If you have a loved one who is addicted to alcohol or drugs and you wonder if there is something you could have done to prevent the addiction, or you have tried everything to keep your family together while feeling like it’s all falling apart because of addiction, or you have questions or just need someone to talk to, this group could be very helpful. The group will get together every Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, beginning February 1 at the High Hopes Building at 80 South 200 East in Roosevelt. Vanessa Liesik is the support specialist guiding these groups. Currently, the group is for adults, but there may be children’s groups added later. • The Family Support Center Respite Nursery will be adding a weekly 2 hour respite for children of families who sign up with their program. It used to be mostly for crisis care, but any family could benefit by 2 hours each week to take care of themselves. The 2 hour respite will be given for any reason the family might need it. Executive Director Janet Row initiated this change to try and help more families in the tri-county area.
If interested in any of these programs, call the Family Support Center of the Uintah Basin at 435-722-2401, or the High Hopes program at 435-722-2407. The High Hopes program is located at 80 South 200 East (across from the Frontier Grill), and the Family Support Center is located at 259 North 700 East, both in Roosevelt.

“My daughter started the White House Academy in 2017. She was immediately welcomed by her teachers and the other students. The teachers at The White House Academy really care about their students progress and always making sure the are happy and comfortable. They participate daily in music, P.E, and arts. My favorite thing about this school is their patriotic spirit!!! I would recommend White House Academy above all other local schools!” -Lori Littel, Parent
“I could not be more pleased to have my children enrolled at White House Academy. In retrospect, I do not know why I waited so long to get them there! My children’s teachers and peers have been wonderful through and through. Best of all, they are learning solid principles, and they enjoy going to school. White House Academy has been great for my family and for my children’s scholastic and spiritual development.” -TJ Batty, Parent “ I love White House Academy because it makes me happy.
