Service Recap SOS: Survival of the Fittest
This was a service marathon filled with service, fun games, and prizes! We first tried out some viral TikTok recipes and had a lovely brunch together. For the service component, we made paracord bracelets to donate to the U.S. military and no-sew blankets for the animal shelter. We had fun activities interspersed throughout the day like an escape room puzzle and a game night!
Transcribe TED Talks This is one of our continuous service projects that happens every first Friday of the month! At this event, we help TED Talks reach a wider audience by providing English subtitles. Basically, we watch the videos and transcribe their speech into text.
Zooniverse
This is our other continuous service project which happens every third Friday of the month. At this event, we can contribute to important research through the Zooniverse website. There are a variety of research projects to choose from in the sciences and humanities and the tasks are easy to do.

Fall Training Conference My FTC experience, despite being online, was pretty rewarding. I was part of the team that edited our skit video, and I had never edited a skit before (especially a zoom one), so this was a new experience for me. I also bonded with the other people I was making it with, which made overcoming the challenges we’d occasionally face a lot easier. The actual conference itself was also something to remember. I was initially really intimidated by how many Circle K people there were (and how I knew virtually none of them) but I’m glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and attended the bonding sessions and some of the workshops. I had fun with some really cool people, and there were valuable lessons about things I typically didn’t see covered at these events, like mental health. Overall FTC was a great experience for me as my first big Circle K event, and I can’t wait to attend the in-person version in the future! Austen Liao

Fundraising Recap For the Fall 2020 semester, UCB CKI has raised nearly a thousand dollars for three of our District Fundraising Initiatives—the Kiwanis Family House, the Environmental Defense Fund, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund—and other charities despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Half of our fundraisers were conducted over Instagram, and others were held via Zoom, on Facebook, and Go-Fund-Me. Next semester, we will have more exciting fundraisers, including a Rubber Ducky Race and Pageant K! Caitlin Aladham, Fundraising Chair

Hello UCBCKI! I can not believe that the semester is coming to an end! I guess time flies when you are having fun. This year our club faced the challenge of transitioning online. The first few months of transitioning were rough–we had to put a halt to our in-person events and find replacements that are equally engaging and enjoyable. Despite the challenges, our club has achieved so much this past semester. We continued our passion for service through online continuous service projects and Kiwanis family events, established three amazing families and new mentor/mentee pairs, and created new friendships through socials, inter-clubs, and our club Discord. Additionally, we continued fundraising for our four DFIs (we received 3rd place for most funds raised for Kiwanis Family House!) and created online newsletters accessible to everyone (what you're reading right now!). Whether you are new to the club, or someone who has been in the club for a while, I hope you all have gained something from your experiences and will continue to make more memories that will last a lifetime. I want to thank you for joining UCBCKI. Our club would not be the same without you, and I hope this club will continue to be a place where you call home. We will continue to ensure that this club is a safe environment where we listen, support, and care for each other regardless of our differences. I can’t wait to see you all next semester! In the meantime, avo’ great Christmas break everyone (haha..)
