Brandwag Hoërskool het ‘n 100% slaagsyfer en uit die klas van 148 leerders is ‘n totaal van 160 vakonderskeidings behaal. Die skool se 2011 Dux-leerder, Chantel de Koning, het sewe A’s. So-ook Danie Strydom wat saam met André Nel (vyf A’s) bo-aan die skool se puntelys is.

“Ons is ongelooflik trots op elkeen van die 148 leerders.

Die skool se prestasies is te danke aan wonderlike ouers, onderwysers en leerders. Die uitstekende ondersteuningstelsel van die Uitenhage distrikskantoor se eksamenafdeling stel ons in staat om maksimaal te presteer,” het mev. Eerika Roux, akademiese hoof van Brandwag Hoërskool gesê.

Op die buurdorp is Hoërskool Despatch se toppresteerders Martin Griessel met A-gemiddeldes vir al sy vakke terwyl Roxanne Gerber in vyf vakke onderskeideings behaal het. Volgens skoolhoof mnr. Colin Bartle is nog ‘n uitsonderlike prestasie by die skool die Pedi-sprekende Zimbabwiese dogter Kudakwashe Mudarikwa wat in graad 9 Afrikaans aangeleer het en haar matriek met ‘n gemiddeld van 58% geslaag het. Die skool se matriekklas van 145 het ‘n 93.06% slaagsyfer.

Hierna bedien hy gemeentes in Vereeniging, Delmas en Brakpan-Wes voor hulle vertrek na die VSA meer as tien jaar gelede. Na die beroep na Gainesville, Georgia is hy ook in die Assemblies of God georden. Vanweë sy liefde vir die Kerk voel hy homself geroepe tot verdere formele teologiese opleiding en voltooi sy doktorale studies (D.Litt et Phil.) aan die Universiteit van Johannesburg. Hy en Corla is baie gelukkig getroud sedert 1977 met twee kinders, Miranda en Etienne, wat steeds in die VSA woon. Alhoewel hulle die tyd in die VSA terdeë geniet en baie positief ervaar het was die verlange na die “eie” beslissend.

HTS Daniel Pienaar het 148 matrikulante in 2011 gehad en die slaagsyfer is 95.3%. Dewald Oosthuizen, ‘n adjunkhoofseun en 2011 Dux-leerder het onderskeidings in al sy vakke en ‘n gemiddeld van 92.4%. Die skool het drie leerders met A-gemiddeldes en elf met B-gemiddeldes.

Mnr. Nico Claassen, DP se skoolhoof het gesê hy is tevrede met die uitslae en dat leerders se prestasies in die eksterne eksamen in lyn is met dit wat hulle in interne eksamens behaal het.

Uitenhage Hoërskool se klas van 157 het ‘n 78% slaagsyfer en die skool se toppresteerder is Levia Louw met vier vakonderskeidings.

Strelitzia Hoërskool se slaagsyfer is 94.7% en die klas van 96 matrieks se toppresteerder is Alonzo Perera wat vyf vakonderskeidings behaal het.

Riebeek College spog met ‘n 100% slaagsyfer. Die skool se hoofdogter en Dux-leerder, Ciara Jackson sowel as die onderhoofdogter, Mishka Karsan het beide sewe vakonderskeidings behaal. Jackson is ook aangewys as die toppresteerder van die Uitenhage-onderwysdistrik.

Skoolhoof mev. Marilyn Woods is in haar skik en het gesê daar was slegs vyf vakdruipelinge uit die klas van 76 leerders.

Metronoom Musiekskool het 2011 op ‘n hoë noot afgesluit met verskeie van die leerders wat besonder goed gevaar het in eksterne eksamens by Trinity, Royal Schools en Unisa.

Volgens me. Lynn Gouws van Metronoom Musiekskool was daar agt onderskeidings en elf merietetoekennings.

Registrasie vir leerders wat vanjaar wil musiek neem is vandag tussen 17:00-18:30 by Metronoom in die NGK Uitenhage-Noord kerksaal op die hoek van Harperstraat en Moselweg. Die instrumente waarin lesse aangebied word sluit in blokfluit, klarinet, fluit, klavier, klawerbord, kitaar, dromme sowel as sang

en teorie.

“Daar is ook die opwindende Drumkidz vir leerders van 3-8 jaar wat vanaf vanjaar by Metronoom aangebied word. Hierdie lesse ontwikkel musiekkennis by kinders,” het mev. Gouws gesê.

Premier’s scholarship recipient

<Ciara Jackson from Riebeek College was named 2011 National Senior Certificate Grade 12 top achiever in the Uitenhage educa­ tional district. The Eastern Cape Premier, Ms Noxolo Kiviet, also awarded her the Premier’s top achiever scholarship which entails R50 000 per annum to study at an university of choice. Ciara will commence her studies in Medicine at the University of Stellen­ bosch. Ciara was the Riebeek headgirl, Dux learner, JTC deputy mayor and also head of the senior choir which won a national award. The 2010 top achiever of the Uitenhage educational dis­ trict, Loren Kapp, also hailed from Riebeek College. Brothers die in plane crash <This Cessna 150 of brothers Barney (37) and Lumon (35) van Eeden crashed at the Syfergat farm in Kruisrivier some 7km outside Uitenhage on Saturday at about 09:30. Both died on impact. They were from Humewood in Port Elizabeth.

Barney was a lawyer and Lumon a lectur­ er at Madiba Bay School of Flight. Both were bachelors. According to eye wit­ ness Marius Pitout the plane started spinning in the air and crashed into the ground.

Detectives in Kwanobuhle are urgently seeking assistance in the investigation of a murder case.

It is alleged that on the 16 December 2011, Mr Mungisi Mapolisa was shot in his stomach.

“The shooting allegedly took place during the early hours of the morning in an open area between Zelile Nogcazi Street and Bucwa Road cemetery. Mapolisa was taken to hospital but died on Saturday, 17

December 2011 in Livingstone Hospital,” said police spokesperson Lt.Col. Priscilla Naidu.

Police have no information relating to the fatal shooting. Anyone who can assist in tracing the suspect/s or provide information about the incident is asked to contact Constable X.L.O. Vandale skend 22 grafte HEILIE COMBRINCK Twee-en-twintig grafte is deur vandale geskend in die Gerald Smithbegraafplaas op Uitenhage.

Booswigte het vermoedelik gedurende Nuwejaarsnag dié spoor van verwoesting op hulle kortpad deur die begraafplaas gelaat. ‘n Beloning van R1 000 is uitgeloof vir inligting wat tot hul inhegtenisneming sal lei.

“Een van my kliënte het my Maandagoggend (2 Januarie 2012) verwittig van die grafte wat geskend is. Die meeste van die grafstene is omgeskop en tekkiespore is nog duidelik sigbaar op die grafte,” het mnr. Mario Stegmann van Stegmann & Son Monumental Works op Uitenhage gesê.

Stegmann het ‘n klag namens sy kliënte by die Kamesh polisiekantoor ingedien.

Volgens hom beloop die skade aan grafte meer as R100 000.

“Ongeag die waarde is dit onaanvaarbaar dat mense se gevoelens en ‘n rusplek vir geliefde afgestorwenes glad nie hier gerespekteer word nie,” het Stegmann gesê.

Grafte van bekende families soos Kerridge, Bruiners, Abrahams, Meyer, Basson en Rossouw het onder die vandale deurgeloop. Die begraafplaas se heining is in ‘n gehawende toestand en dit is ‘n bedrywige kortpad tussen die aangrensende woonbuurte.

Volgens Stegmann is die deur en vensters van die kantoor by die begraafplaasingang ook oopgebreek.

“Dit is vermoedelik dieselfde booswigte, want grafstene is geskend van die Gerald Smith-ingang, al langs die pad, tot by ‘n opening in die stukkende heining aangrensend aan Gamble woonbuurt,” het Stegmann gesê.

Adjudant-offisier Marianette Olivier, polisiewoordvoerder, het gesê die polisie in Kamesh stel ondersoek in.

“Die polisie sal hulle sigbaarheid verskerp in die omgewing,” het Olivier gesê.

Sy het die gemeenskap aangemoedig om met inligting oor die voorval vorendag te kom.

“Inligting sal as vetroulik beskou word,” het Olivier gesê.

Muir class of ‘62 reunion UD REPORTER THE Matric class of 1962 of The Muir in Uitenhage, founded in 1822, will hold a 50th reunion to be staged on Founders Day at the school in March.

According to one of the steering committee members, Warwick (Dog) Owen, a great amount of planning has gone into this event which will be held from Thursday, March 8 to Sunday, March 11.

“Since the Founders steering committee started up in March 2009 we have held 14 planning meetings.

We took fellow schoolmates from Std 8 to matric, anyone who had been with us over the years 1960 to 1962.

We fielded 87 names of which 27 had passed on. All of the remaining 60 have been contacted and we have re-

ceived 30 registration forms with more expected this month. A fantastic yield by any one’s standard,” said Owen.

The Founders weekend will start on the Thursday at the Kelway Hotel as a ‘Muir Family Fun Day’ in which anyone of Muir can participate.

On the Friday a School Founder’s Day Ceremony will be held at The Muir in Uitenhage followed by a visit to the old school (Red Brick Building). This will be followed by a lunch at the Barkly Street Theatre, with some of their teachers as special guests.

“A Founders Day Dinner will be held on Saturday at the ‘New Muir on the Hill’,” said Owen.

Have your say on waste management The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) is currently reviewing its Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP), which is a planning tool that will guide the municipality’s waste management activities over the next five years.

“We would like residents to submit their contributions.

The closing date for contributions is 17 February 2012,” said Kupido Baron, Municipal Spokesperson.

Standing Committee Chairperson for Public Health, Cllr Patricia Ndlovu, said as part of the planning process, the NMBM is undertaking a public perception survey to determine how residents perceive waste management, what they feel the challenges are, and how they would like to see these issues addressed.

The survey is available online via a link on the NMBM homepage (www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za) or you can pick up a hard copy from

municipal clinics, customer care centres and libraries across Nelson Mandela Bay. The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality won the coveted Cleanest City Award twice and also received the second price on several occasions since the inauguration of the awards in 2002 as a result of its proactive approach to Waste Management.

The public perception survey started on 30 November 2011.

Long queues at traffic and licensing The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Traffic and Licensing Centres in Uitenhage and Korsten are currently experiencing long queues as per the norm this time of the year.

Acting Director for Safety and Security, Mr Shane Brown, said although no formal complaints were received, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality

would like to advise clients that they must be prepared to spend longer time than usual at the centres as a result of the long queues.

“Our workers are doing their best under the circumstances to assist clients as quickly as possible.

“As a result of the influx of people to the centres, queues will remain

long in the next few days to come,” he added.

The municipality would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by these long queues and would like to advise all clients to wait until after this unusually busy period, if possible, to avoid any frustration at these centres.

A 38 year old Uitenhage man appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on a charge of rape.

It is alleged that the suspect, who is the stepfather of the 13 year old victim sexually assaulted her for a year.

“The teenager’s behaviour aroused suspicion and after some probing by a relative, she disclosed the incident to the relative.

“The matter was reported to the po-

lice and the man was arrested on Wednesday, 4th January 2012. The suspect is an armed response officer at a security company in Uitenhage,” said Lt.Col. Naidu.

According to her, SAPS members who ensure that these criminals who commit crimes against vulnerable women and children are investigated, arrested, prosecuted and put behind bars are commended and urged by the SAPS management to keep up the good work.

Paramedics from ER24 expressed their concern over parents leaving their children and pets in the car while they went shopping.

“Small children and infants are affected differently from adults when presented with severe heat conditions,” said Werner Vermaak from ER24.

“When children or infants are presented with these heat factors their bodies sweat excessively and they become severely dehydrated and lose life-sustaining electrolytes.

“If this condition is not corrected immediately the child can go into heat stroke and will be unable to sweat, thus increasing the body core temperature to a dangerously high condition. Extreme temperatures can lead to seizures, brain damage, liver or kidney failure and even death.”

A motor vehicle is a metal box that can act as an oven when parked in direct sunlight or high temperatures. With outside temperatures of approximately 33 degrees Celsius the inside of the vehicle can easily reach over 50 degrees Celsius in 20 minutes.

Even with a window left open, the inside of the vehicle can reach well over 60 degrees Celsius in just 40 minutes. Extreme temperature can change a child’s life in a matter of minutes.

ER24 PARAMEDICS ADVISE THE FOLLOWING: • Under no circumstances should you leave your child (or pet) in a vehicle, even if a window is left open and you know you will only be away for a few minutes.

• Always make sure that your children have left the car with you when you arrive at your destination to avoid accidentally locking them inside of the vehicle.

• If you notice a child in a vehicle, immediately try to locate the parents or owner of the vehicle and contact the Police (10111) or Emergency Medical Services (084124). Taking immediate action could save the life of the child.

• Children that were successfully removed from a vehicle after being left unattended in the heat should undergo a medical examination in order to determine whether they have any signs or symptoms of heat exhaustion or stroke.

Intussen het die inwoners van Somerset-Oos die naweek reeds vir Maandag se 33 °C, met 63% humiditeit voorberei.

Me. Catrina Olivier, bestuurder van ’n drankwinkel op die dorp, het gesê hulle was maar soos elke naweek besig.

“Die mense het wel ’n paar biere ekstra ingepak om die hitte te bestry,” het sy geskerts.

Langer skoolure vir Gr.1’s en 2’s

Pieter Dirk­Uys is in PE to provide loads of laughter NCEBA DLADLA PIETER-DIRK Uys is in Nelson Mandela Bay. Thirty years after he performed “Adapt or Dye,” a production he developed and performed from a phrase he took from PW Botha in 1980, the inimitable Uys is back with Adapt or Fly to humour and entertain fans at the Vodacom Amphitheatre at the Boardwalk tomorrow night and on Friday.

The easy-going and humble Uys, otherwise known as Evita Bezuidenhout – his alter-ego – says he came up with the idea of Adapt or Fly after delivering apartheid archives adverts – the sketches about the apartheid past he was commissioned to do at the market theatre last year.

“A group of about 300 university graduates were so excited about my interpretation of what has been happening in this country that they pleaded with me to develop this into a production.

“This was of course not difficult to do, with the ANC struggling to repatriate illegal citizens in the country and our dear Juju,” he said referring to the suspended ANCYL president, Julius Malema.

What happened in Bloemfontein in the last few days (The ANC’s 100 years celebration) according to Uys, has provided this country with a lot of material to ponder – not to fear, but to take to heart.

Uys believes 2012 is going to be an interesting year where the people will have to govern (themselves) – “as the ruling ANC will be busy fighting among themselves in preparations for their elective congress in Mangaung later this year.”

The show is also inspired by the new Secrecy Bill, which if enacted, he said, will make it difficult for him to use some of the material he uses because it would be regarded as state’s (secret information) material. “But, it’s not all doom and gloom as Evita is going to be the Chairperson of the Media Appeals Tribunal,” he quipped.

In the show Uys, who still has fond memories of Port Elizabeth as the city that is “politically aware and involved” plays 12 characters that include Evita, President Jacob Zuma, and the old National Party Prime Ministers, like DF Malan and PW Botha.

There is little bit of Afrikaans in the show with Piet Koornhof brought back to life, Uys said, without revealing much.

SAPA GRAAD 1- en gr. 2- leerders kan vanjaar ’n langer skooldag verwag, het die departement van basiese onderwys aangekondig.

“Die skooldag sal ’n halfuur langer wees,” het Hope Mokgatlhe, woordvoerder van die departement, gesê.

“Ons wil Engels as eerste bykomende taal op gr. 1-vlak inbring.”

Mokgatlhe het gesê leerders het voorheen eers van gr. 3 af Engels begin leer. Dit is egter

die taal waarin die skoolkurrikulum in Suid-Afrika onderrig en getoets word, en is dus van deurslaggewende belang.

In sommige skole in die WesKaap sal Afrikaans as die eerste bykomende taal aangebied word.

Mokgatlhe het bygevoeg die skool-dag in die grondslagfase (gr. 1 tot gr. 3) sal nie langer as ses uur wees nie. Voorheen is leerders weekliks altesaam nege uur en tien minute in geletterdheid onderrig. Van volgende jaar af sal tien uur se klastyd tussen die twee tale verdeel word.

Die tyd wat weekliks aan wiskunde bestee word, sal van

sewe en ’n half- uur tot sewe uur verminder word, terwyl ’n halfuur meer per week aan lewensvaardighede gewy sal word. Mokgatlhe het gesê individuele skole sal besluit hoe hulle hul roosters gaan aanpas om dié veranderings in die leerplan in te werk.

Volgens Jaco Deacon, woordvoerder van die Federasie van Beheerliggame van Suid-Afrikaanse Skole, gaan langer skoolure nie noodwendig ’n verskil maak nie.

“Dit is soos om ’n pleister op die verkeerde plek te plak. Die gehalte van onderrig en van onderwysers moet aandag kry.”

Divorcee wants split from accrual system

THIS week Property Poser’s panel considers the implications of being married out of community of property with the accrual system.

A reader tells us that she is married in terms of this regime and that the split of the accrual is 25/75 in her husband’s favour. It appears that one of the biggest assets in the estate is a property valued at approximately R3 million, registered in her husband’s name.

In the event of a divorce, she would

like to know whether she could negotiate to keep the property in exchange for her claim on all other assets and, if so, whether she would have to pay a fee to have the house registered in her name.

Rian du Toit from DTS Attorneys in Port Elizabeth says the accrual system was introduced in the early eighties allowing spouses to maintain their separate estates during the course of the marriage.

“In the event of death or divorce, however, the spouse who has had the least growth in value of assets in his or her name is entitled to share in a portion of the growth of the other one’s assets.”

At the outset, says Du Toit, the starting value of each party’s estate is established and documented in the antenuptial contract.

“Any assets that are to be excluded from the calculation, such as a business, can be specified.”

Regardless of the growth in value of these assets, Du Toit says the other spouse will have no right to a share in them. “When the marriage ends, the final value of all assets forming part of the accrual system has to be determined.”

Du Toit says the value of any liabilities is also taken into account. “So if there is for example a bond on a fixed property, it is deducted from its value.”

In this instance, it is not clear whether there is a bond on the property in question, says Du Toit.

According to Charlotte Vermaak from Chas Everitt in PE, the Matrimonial Property Act gives a court the power to deviate from the agreed terms of the antenuptial contract.

However, such an order will only be made if there are exceptional factors that warrant it, says Vermaak.

“It is very important to realise that the parties can divide the estate in

any agreeable manner in the event of a divorce, regardless of the marital regime applicable.”

Only when the parties cannot or do not wish to agree to other terms, will the marital regime be applied in its strictest sense, says Vermaak.

“This means that in theory it is possible for our reader to become the sole owner of the fixed property while her spouse takes on full ownership of other assets.”

Should the fixed property be transferred in terms of the divorce, Vermaak says there is a specific exemption on any transfer duty that may have been payable.

‘Handouts’ affect jobs negatively

Universities are producing the wrong kind of graduates to redress South Africa’s high unemployment rate, a labour analyst said on Tuesday.

“There are currently nearly 600 000 unemployed university graduates in South Africa, mostly in the arts, humanities and social sciences,” said Adcorp labour market analyst Loane Sharp in a statement.

“Whereas the private sector has more than 800 000 vacancies in management, engineering, law, finance, accounting and medicine.”

Sharp said some professional bodies also restricted entry into their fields through the standards they set, often in concert with universities.

This was typically backed by legislative and regulatory requirements.

Sharp said, for example, the General Council of the Bar, the law societies, the Health Professions Council of SA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants set their own criteria - like exams and low-paid articleship or housemanship - as a prerequisite for entry into the professions.

“By contrast, fields such as physics, finance, engineering, economics and management do not have professional bodies,” he said.

A supplementary analysis to the Adcorp Employment Index released on Tuesday found that government handouts, trade unions and affirmative action were negatively affecting the desire to work in South Africa.

“As many as 10.2 million South Africans - one in five - receive grants of one form or another, amounting to 14.9 million grants or 1.5 grants per recipient, yielding average annual transfers of R9 539 per benefici-

ary,” Sharp said.

Referring to Statistics SA’s Quarterly Labour Force Survey, Sharp said 43% of unemployed people were willing to accept a job, if offered, when they were living off their own savings.

In contrast, only 11% of people would accept a job if they were supported by social grants and welfare.

“Unemployed people are also more likely to remain out of work if they are supported by social grants and welfare: the average duration of unemployment is 16 months for people who do not receive grants, compared to 21 months for people who do.”

Sharp said trade unions also appeared to discourage work.

“Only 9.3% of unionised workers, as opposed to 17.8% of non-unionised workers, are prepared to work additional hours in a given week.

“And, of those who will do so, unionised workers are prepared to work an additional 0.9 hours a week compared to 2.4 hours a week for non-unionised workers.”

The index showed that affirmative action also discouraged some job seekers.

Highly qualified whites were substantially less likely than blacks to find a job within 12 months of initiating a job search.

For job-seekers with a tertiary qualification, blacks were 34% more likely to find work than whites.

“This has contributed to the higher percentage of whites operating their own businesses.”

“Business owners’ share of national income increased from 39.9% in 1995 to 47.2% in 2011, while employees’ share has correspondingly declined,” Sharp said.

Bigger deposits bring big benefits Many people are irked by the fact that 100% home loans are no longer freely available, but on the other hand it must be said that the bigger the cash deposit that potential homebuyers can make, the more benefit they will derive, even when interest rates are low.

That’s the word from Berry Everitt, MD of the Chas Everitt International property group, who notes that the latest statistics indicate that the average deposit now required by the banks has fallen from an average of around 18% a year ago to about 12%.

“This does of course make it easier for new buyers to get into the market, in the sense that they no longer need to have as much cash saved up and can buy now while prices are still low. However, the long-term implications may actually not be as positive, because no matter what the purchase price, a smaller deposit means a bigger loan, which means, firstly, that the borrower must earn more in order to qualify, and secondly, that the minimum monthly

repayments will be higher.

“This, in turn, will restrict the borrower’s ability to pay the loan off faster and save a large amount of interest – a situation that may be exacerbated by the fact that the banks often charge higher rates of interest on low-deposit loans.”

Taking the example of a home costing R800 000, he says a 12% deposit would equate to a loan of R704 000 and a minimum monthly repayment of just over R6300, at the current prime interest rate of 9%.

“The buyer who pays an 18% deposit, however, will require a loan of just R656 000, and face a minimum monthly repayment of under R6000. He may well then be in a position to pay an additional R300 a month off his loan capital, which would enable him to pay off his home two years earlier and generate interest savings of about R108 000 – or more than twice the additional amount of deposit cash paid (R48 000).

Sports drink powers cycling race Popular energy drink Powerade will once again fuel the family and children’s races during The Herald VW Cycle Tour on February 4 and 5.

Having been involved with the Eastern Cape’s largest family cycle race since the inception of the kiddies’ events, Powerade will now also take on the title sponsorship of the family races.

Powerade promotions manager Cheryl Price said it was important for Coca-Cola’s sports drink to be involved with the tour because it was one of the first highprofile family events of the year countrywide.

Price said the brand’s involvement in the country’s second oldest national classic also meant good exposure to a large contingent of cyclists from all over South Africa.

“We’ve chosen to sponsor these events because, with the parents cheering on and assisting the kids, the whole family is involved.

The family unit is very important to us.”

On the Saturday, the little ones can either take part in the 2km Powerade Kiddies’ Ride at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth or the 5km Powerade Kiddies’ Challenge at Addo. For tiny tots, a 500m Toddlers’ Dash is available at both venues.

Also on the Saturday, the 30km Powerade Leisure Challenge is a family-friendly mountain bike event while the 21km Powerade Leisure Ride offers an opportunity for road cycling clans to spend quality time together.

Price said the sponsorship was valued at R200 000 and would comprise cash, products, equipment and novelties. The company will

Redhouse River Mile returns to the Bay AFRICA’S oldest open water swimming event in the form of the SPAR Redhouse River Mile returns to Nelson Mandela Bay on Sunday, February 19, at the Cannonville Village of Sunday’s River.

Started in 1924, the river mile is celebrating its 88th anniversary with organisers, Zports, predicting a bumper event.

Over 5 000 participants and spectators will be expected to converge on the slipway area of the quaint Cannonville Village as swimmers compete for a cash prize pool of R28 000.

An action-packed sporting day is planned, kicking off with

the Discovery 5km Trail Run and the Discovery Off-Road Triathlon (500m swim, 15km MTB, 5km trail run) before heading into the water for the swimming events.

Increasingly popular are the kids’ Stormforce races across the river, for children 12 years and under who aren’t taking part in the Mile events. Boys and girls 10 and under and 11/12 years will race in individual categories across the Sundays River (approximately 75m) in a race where parents are encouraged to accompany their children who aren’t yet competent swimmers, but keen to take part in their first swimming race.
