he plight of sisters from up-north in the country in support of events to help raise funds for their sister in Uitenhage, Natasha Thysse who was diagnosed with cancer, has fallen on the ears of a caring community.

Esmerelda Erasmus from Pretoria earlier this year wrote a letter requesting financial support for their sister Natasha who was diagnosed with melanoma cancer. “She has had several surgical procedures to date. She has medical aid, but unfortunately they do not cover all expenses. So we are trying to collect funds to assist with the costs of her medication which are running quite high, said Erasmus. Fuel on Wheels, a registered non-profit charitable organisation, has geared-up cyclists from Despatch and Uitenhage to participate in a long distance challenge in raising funds for Natasha. “The response was awesome! We will tackle a 150km route starting at 06:00 on Saturday from Budget Cycles in Despatch leaving for Jeffreys Bay and on return will stop at Danskraal in Uitenhage, said Johan Oosthuizen from Fuel on Wheels. “All interested cyclists, whether on racing or mountain bikes are most welcome to join us. It will be tough, but it will be fun and very rewarding to do this for someone like Natasha who really is in need. The cyclists will be accompanied by two motorcycle clubs, Entangled Freedom and Victory Riders. Nelson Mandela Bay traffic officials as well as local businesses like Symara Knitwear, Odds & Ends, Peter Benn Motors and a private ambulance service are supporting the challenge. Monster will sponsor the refreshments for participating cyclists. “It is an honour to be part of events where the community stand together like this. Let’s face it, we need each other, said Oosthuizen. The participation fee for the cycling challenge is R50. Budget Cycles is situated at 8 Moreson Street, Despatch. )On May 26th at 19:00 Danskraal will host a Dans-Eet-Kuier-Lag event in aid of Natasha. Tickets are R100 per person.
