Newborn baby found in bush UD REPORTER

OLICE in Addo are seeking the mother of an abandoned baby who was found in a bush by teenage boys.
According to police information, a fourteen year old boy, Thorne Booysen from Valencia and a friend went to fetch wood early in the morning in the nearby bushes when they heard a baby crying. “The astounded boys alleged that they looked around and when they saw no-one, they followed the cries

U’hage High alumni to be launched HEILIE COMBRINCK In its relatively short history of 48 years, Uitenhage High School and its former pupils have had an impact far beyond the borders of the town. This is what encouraged a group of former pupils of the school to act as goodwill ambassadors and to establish a Uitenhage High School Alumni. Although alumni members represent the past, their aim
is to assist in providing a prominent support system in securing a future for the school and its current and prospective pupils. “We already enjoyed the opportunity to financially support five former 2010 pupils in pursuing their studies at various tertiary institutions,” said Dominic Swartz, a founder member of Uitenhage High Alumni. “There are former Uitenhage High pupils across the globe and in various spheres of society and most
of them are proud of their alma mater and are eager to support the alumni.” The school’s motto Perseverando Vincimus (Perseverance Overcomes) is lived by many current and former pupils and well as educators and school principals. Legends of the school include the first principal, the late Mr H.C.C. Hendricks also known as “Perd”. SThe official launch of the Uitenhage High Alumni will be held on the 22 September at the
Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre. A recruitment drive in preparation for this prestige event will be held on the 25th August at Shoprite Binnehof as well as Pick ’n Pay Penford. All former pupils are requested to register as part of the alumni on these days. Suspects arrested when returning to crime scene Three young adults were arrested by police as they attempted to flee after allegedly attempting to rob a shop in Kamesh. According to police information the three suspects entered a shop in Maduna Road last Saturday at about 18:00 and one of them hit the shop assistant on the head with a bottle. “When the suspects noticed that the owner, a Chinese man, was getting assistance, they ran out of the shop, leaving one of their accomplices behind. The owner then shut the door and it is further alleged that the suspect was assaulted,” said police spokes-

The two suspects changed their minds, came back and kicked open the door to rescue their friend. “At that moment the police arrived and all three suspects were arrested. A case of attempted robbery, assault and malicious damage to property is been investigated against the suspects.

Die Graad R-afdeling van die Bollie het reeds lank ‘n samewerkingsooreenkoms met Laerskool Albertyn en daar was reeds die afgelope 3 jaar ‘n Graad R klas by Albertyn gehuisves. Die Departement van Onderwys het juis daarom besluit dat die Bollie se Graad R-klasse na Laerskool Albertyn moet verhuis. Albertyn het dadelik begin werk om alles gereed te kry vir die dag wanneer die nuwe Graad R-leerders intrek. Die dag vir die groot trek het uiteindelik aangebreek en die Graad R’e het met die aanbreek van die nuwe kwartaal in lieflike, groot, varsgeverfde klasse by Albertyn ingetrek. Die Graad R-personeel van die Bollie het natuurlik saamgetrek. Die Graad R-leerkragte wil Albertyn bedank omdat die skool hulle met ope arms ontvang het en huisves.

Complex management issues This week a reader asks the Property Poser experts whether a managing agent is allowed to lead the body corporate of a sectional title complex and give advice. In addition, as a trustee of the complex in which he resides, he is concerned about a situation in which one or two of his fellow trustees are trying to take control. According to Charlotte Vermaak from Chas Everitt in Nelson Mandela Bay, a management agent is an individual or firm appointed by a body corporate or homeowners’ association to manage the property on its behalf. “Although the agent has the contractual responsibility for the management of the property, the ultimate responsibility will always rest with the trustees of a body corporate or the directors of a homeowners’ association.” Of course, says Vermaak, if a managing agent has been appointed, it would only be to the trustees’ advantage to at least consider the agent’s advice, as he or she would be typically knowledgeable on the subject. “However, it’s not compulsory for the trustees to appoint an agent, and many smaller schemes manage their affairs without assistance owing to the competence and active participation of the owners.” Especially in medium to large-sized schemes, the workload involved in managing the affairs of a body corporate and lack of compensation usually encourages trustees to appoint a managing agent, says Vermaak. “In terms of the prescribed management rules, the agent must be appointed by written contract for an initial period of one year, with
one month’s written notice of termination to be given by either party thereafter.” The scope of the managing agent’s services will be specifically stipulated in the contract of appointment, says Rian du Toit from DTS Attorneys in the metro. “Generally, however, he or she will control, manage and administer the common property as well as any obligations the body corporate has to any public or local authority on behalf of section owners.” Du Toit says the functions delegated to the
agent usually include the responsibility and authority to collect the levies paid by the owners. “With regard to the second issue, although it may appear that one or two trustees are trying to take control, they have very limited real power.” When it comes to voting, each trustee has only one vote and a minority will therefore not be in a position to affect the affairs of the complex substantially without further support from the other voting trustees, says Du Toit.
“If a trustee continues to act improperly and in contravention of the position of trust he or she holds, steps can be taken to remove that person.” Du Toit says the prescribed rules allow the owners to remove a trustee at a general meeting by passing an ordinary resolution to that effect. “However, the notice calling the meeting must disclose the intention to vote upon this removal.” To ask a property related question, visit www.propertyposer.co.za.

Best female soccer team in Bay HEILIE COMBRINCK Manchester Babes female football club is the first team from Uitenhage to win the Mayoral Cup tournament. This prestige tournament has been part of the local football clubs’ events for the part three years. The 2012 final was played at the NU2 stadium in Motherwell where Manchester Babes took on Continental Ladies and scored 2-1 to be awarded the cup. One of Manchester Babes’ players, the 19 year old Sesethu Sikhotshi was named the top goal scorer of the Mayoral Cup. She scored a total of 9 goals. The top goalkeeper of the tournament, Nosiseko Mayedwa (29), also hails from Manchester Babes. Manchester Babes are now participating in the Sasol Provincial League and are playing in the Eastern Cape Section A where they currently are ranked third. The team is coached by Archie Dyeli in conjunction with the co-ordinator Sandile Konono. ;Some of Manchester Babes’ member with the Mayoral Cup. Dit is die 8ste agtereenvolgende jaar wat dié sportdag deur Laerskool Albertyn aangebied word in samewerking met Sasko. Die doel van die rugbydag is om jong spelers die geleentheid te bied om hulself te ontwikkel. Die klem van die toernooi val op deelname en nie noodwendig op die prestasie van die spanne nie. Elke span speel 2 wedstryde van 20 minute elk. Die program begin 08:00 met die registrasie van die skole en sal tot ongeveer 13:00 duur. Skole wat reeds ingeskryf het is: Albertyn, Albertyn Graad R, Frans Conradie, Sonop, Dalrose, Caritas, Hombakazi, Noninzi Primêr, Maqabi, Voorbereidingskool Despatch, Despatch Primêr, Verité, Walmer Wes en Handhaaf. Verversings sal tydens die dag te koop aangebied word asook verskeie stalletjies, musiek en ‘n springkasteel vir die kinders se vermaak. Toegang vir volwassenes is R5 en vir kinders is R2.
Results of Glynis de Long volleyball tournament The Glynis de Long Women in Sports Volleyball tournament was held over the past weekend at a full-house Rosedale Recreation Hall. Six female teams and five male teams registered and a total of 28 games were played. The winners of the male section were Volkswagen Volleyball Club whilst Sirens Volleyball Club won the female section. The tournament brought back memories of old, as players who peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s formed a male team (Underdogs) and entertained the crowd with great pick-ups, settings, smashing attacks and unbelievable blocks. Players like Trevor Swarts also known as “Kokka” showed the youngsters how to put a ball down in the middle. Lion Zealand proved that “age ain’t nothing but a number” and Joseph Mpondu known as “Trooi” showed his flamboyancy on the court. Young player Peter Size showed why he is the only Eastern Province player who is invited to the national men’s squad. Eastern Province Volleyball Union and its Women in Sports portfolio, Ghauderen Coetzee-de Vos, was congratulated for giving the youth of Uitenhage a positive alternative over the long-weekend in Women’s Month. A bouquet was handed over to the De Long family on behalf of EPVU to thank the family for sharing with and supporting a wife and their mother, the late Glynis de Long with the volleyball fraternity of Uitenhage.
