“Early 2010 I noticed an enlarged node in my neck. After my doctor performed a node excision, the results showed it was a reactive lymph node. The following year I started experiencing other symptoms like per-
sonal loan to be admitted to Greenacres Hospital. “By the time I was diagnosed, the cancer was already in stage 4 and in 90% of my body as it has spread to my liver, kidneys, spleen, lungs and bone marrow. “Despite hearing the terrifying news, I experienced an overwhelming sense of peace and knew that God was in control.” Soon after the diagnosis she started with chemotherapy under Dr Littleton at the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital. After a year of chemo and continuous treatment, Ronél was admitted to Grootte Schuur Hospital in Cape Town during February 2013 for a bone marrow transplant. Her sister was tested as a potential donor, but eventually was not a match, so an auto transplant was planned, meaning using Ronél’s own stem cells for the transplant. “Doctors were concerned that they might not harvest enough stem cells for the transplant as I had had such a lot of chemo. The day the harvesting started, doctors were surprised, as by the same afternoon they had collected enough stem cells for 5 transplants. Normally they hope for a count of 20. They were ecstatic with my count of 179.82!” She was admitted into an isolation ward on 19 March 2013. The bone marrow transplant was performed a week later and Ronél

With Ronél’s introductory words she recently won a three month on-line personal training contract to regain the physical strength she once had as a personal trainer had. )Ronél performed an exceptional interview in support of the Igazi Foundation which came into existence during 2011 at the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital. Muir choir excels at ATKV competition REPORTER

part in the finals of the prestige national ATKV Applous competition. The Muir Choir received a gold award with a percentage of 82. Over and above that fantastic achievement, they received the award in the category of “Beste Hoërskool Nie-Afrikaans Moedertaalsprekende Minder Ervare Seunskoor.” They also received a full standing ovation on the night of their performance. Heartfelt thanks go out to the many parents and teachers and the members of the community who helped and supported the boys as they travelled to Pretoria and back. Without their support Muir choir’s success would not have been possible.
The Muir College choir started the year off on a high note and the accolades kept rolling in. They took part in the Despatch Kunsfees, where they received a gold (86%). At the ATKV Applous regional competition in Uitenhage, they received gold again. Thereafter the choir was invited to participate in the ATKV Applous gala evening which was held in Pretoria at the end of July. Fundraising efforts of great proportion started in order to get all 47 boys to Pretoria. Muir was one of 37 choirs selected to take

besonderhede van die Jeffreysbaai-slagoffer se nommer daarin, in die huis van een van die Uitenhage-slagoffers gevind is. Ina Cronjé, die Jeffreysbaai-slagoffer, het bevestig dat dié vrou by haar aan huis gesit het toe sy haar naam en besonderhede op daardie vorms ingevul het. ’n Kabega-inwoner, wat ook nes die Uitenhage-slagoffers anoniem wil bly, se beskrywing van háár diefstal klink amper soos ’n eggo van die ander slagoffers se beskrywing. “Die vrou het al die regte papiere met die regte stempel daarop by haar gehad. Sy het selfs ’n kaartjie met my man se volle naam en nommer in haar besit gehad. Alles het ingevolge die wet reg voorgekom.” Die enigste verskil was die blonde hare. Wat dié inwoner pla, is hoe die vrou die inligting bekom het. Die Baaise polisie het bevestig dat ’n diefstalsaak, soortgelyk aan dié van Uitenhage en Jeffreysbaai, ondersoek word.

Body found near riverbed Police in Uitenhage are seeking the assistance of the community to identify the body of an unknown male, who was found among the reeds of a river-bed, next to Melbrooks Avenue. The partly decomposed body of the elderly male (in his fifties) was discovered on Monday, 18 August at about 10:00 by a community member.
The deceased was wearing blue jeans, a green check shirt and canvas shoes. John Ross gives Winterberg rugby a boost John Ross Recruitment Trust recently donated a set of four much-needed rugby post protectors to Laerskool Winterberg in Uitenhage for their Winterfest. John Ross Recruitment Trust have been supporting the school as part of their social responsibility projects for 2014 and have donated books, school shoes and groceries. Employees of John Ross also rallied together to paint a few walls, clean some classrooms and tidy up the library. Sandi Johnson, owner of John Ross Re-
cruitment Trust, handed over the rugby post protectors to a delighted Chris van Dalen, head organiser of the school’s rugby. “This would allow us to host more rugby matches in future without having to worry about injuries as a result of not having the necessary safety equipment,” said Chris van Dalen. John Ross will continue to support Laerskool Winterberg for the remainder of the year and are currently helping to collect plastic bottles for their recycling project.

MELODRAMA: UITENHAGE ROUND TABLE 14 & UITENHAGE LIONS CLUB
‘Sir Waaiwors’ rides again . . . Sir Waaiwors and his motley crew of “actors” and damsels, who should rather stick to their day jobs, will be entertaining the local community with an epic tale of yore. The Uitenhage Melodrama has since 2013 become a joint effort between the Round Table and the Lions Service Clubs. It is an annual fund raiser event that means all funds raised are used to the benefit of the less fortunate within the local Community. These intrepid actors who have no claim to fame or fortune gives a new meaning to the “Melo” in Melodrama that comes from the
Greek word “melos” meaning “song” or “tune”. The word “melody” is derived from this. Melodrama is therefore originally a stage play that had an orchestral accompaniment and was interspersed with songs. These days, though, the focus has shifted from pure musicals to a more farcical presentation. Nuwe VLVtak op Uitenhage gestig VLV Sirkel Middelland het ‘n nuwe tak, UitenhageOggendtak, gestig. Die geselligheid het in die Barklystraat Teater op ’n feestelike wyse geskied toe Sirkelpresident Lynette Martin, 18 nuwe entoesiastiese lede verwelkom het. Sustertakke vanaf Port Elizabeth en Despatch het
