1. Assemble all equipment needed for this process.

NB. Ensure you use the appropriate colour threads for the fabric you are overlocking.

Different colour threads have been used to illustrate the different steps of this process.

2. Arrange the threads on the spool holders.

3. Slide the front cover fully to the right. Pull it forward to open.

4. Press the leaf spring located at the bottom of the cloth plate and swing the plate to the left.

5. Ensure the needle bar is fully raised then press the pressure bar down and swing the arm out to the left.

6. Thread the eye of the cotton stand.

7. Draw the threads through the corresponding rod support. Repeat this process for each thread.

8. Draw the lower looper thread through the pret-tension holes above the tension guides.

12. Turn the balance wheel towards you till the lower looper is visible to the left of the cloth plate.

9. Make sure the thread sits between the tension disks by gently pulling them apart.

13. Pass the thread through the back of the needle.

10. Draw the thread through the hole below the tension disk.

11. Continue following the path of the green thread towards the lower looper. Š Karen Ferry and Rosemary White

14. Now turn the balance wheel towards you until the lower looper is in the far right position.

15. Draw the thread along the groove of the lower looper. Pass the thread through the lower looper eye.

16. Repeat the threading process following the path of the yellow thread. Pass the thread through the hole at the base of the upper looper.

17. Now thread into the eye of the needle.

18. Repeat the threading process for the blue, right needle thread. Š Karen Ferry and Rosemary White

19. Continue to thread following the blue thread path.

20. With the needle bar at its highest position, pass the thread through the needle guides.

21. Continue to thread through guides.

Thread the needle from front to back.

22. Continue the threading process for the left needle (the red left needle thread).

26. Replace the pressure arm and ensure the foot is locked securely into position.

23. With the needle bar in its highest position, pass the thread through the thread guides.

27. With all threads placed at the back of the foot, sew a test strip of overlocking. Sample the overlocking to check the tension is correct.

24. Thread the left needle from front to back.

25. Make sure all threads are free of the needle plate. Close the cloth plate and front plate.
