1. Create a small opening in the forearm of one of the sleeve’s lining.
5. Fold through to the right side and press. Lightly press mitred corner and vent.
2. Working from the inside of the jacket, prepare to sew the mitred corner on the right side of the vent.
6. On the cutting line, trim away the right back vent on the lining.
3. Sew mitre finishing1cm from the corner.
7. Turn garment and lining hems through so right sides are together.
4. Trim corner and press seam open.

8. Sew the remaining unstitched hem and lining on the right side of the jacket.
12. Fold hem back on itself and allow the lining to create a roll.
9. Finish at the mitred corner.
13. Finish sewing the hem.
10. Sew the remaining unstitched hem on the left side of the jacket, until you reach the vent edge.
14. For the right side of the vent, reach through the opening of the sleeve lining and pull the vent through.
11. On the left side, turn the vent back on itself. Sew down the length of the vent edge.

15. Align the vent and lining edges. 16. Sew the vent to the lining with a 1cm seam. 17. A pleat of excess lining will form at the hem. 18. Bag the pleat out. 19. Pull the vent through to the right side and lightly press hem. Š Karen Ferry and Rosemary White
20. Through the opening in the sleeve, pull the vent through to the wrong side and release the top of the vent by clipping into the seam allowance. 21. From the right side, turn under the seam allowance at the top of the vent lining and pin.

22. Pull the top of the vent out through the opening of the sleeve lining. Reposition the pin.
26. Stitch together the edges of the hem seam allowance, finishing at the clipped edge.
23. Stitch the garment and lining together at the top of the vent. Pull the vent back through to the right side.
27. Turn hem through to the right side. The hem is now secure. Lightly press the finished vent and hem. Close the opening in the sleeve lining with an edgestitch.
24. To secure the hem in position, clip into the seam allowance on the appropriate seams. 25. Fold hem back on itself. Š Karen Ferry and Rosemary White
28. Place the jacket on the stand and check the vent is level.
