PROCESS INSERTING A CONCEALED ZIP

1. Assemble all pieces needed for this procedure. This example demonstrates the insertion of the concealed zip in a skirt. Overlock the side and centre back seams of the front and back skirt pieces. 2. Place back pieces with right sides together, matching the centre back seam and notches. 3. Starting from the notch which indicates the bottom of the zip, sew the seam together using 1 cm seam allowance. Š Karen Ferry and Rosemary White

4. Press the seam open. 5. Replace the normal machine foot with a concealed zipper foot. 6. Undo the zip, align the top of the zipper tape with the top edge of the opening. 7. Roll zipper teeth back and insert into the groove of the concealed zipper foot. Start sewing the seam with a back tack.

8. Continue down the length of the tape, rolling the zipper teeth back as you sew. Finish and back tack approximately 1cm below the zip opening. 9. Repeat the process to the other side. 10. Continue down the length of the zipper as before making sure you finish and back tack 1cm below the zip opening.

11. Edge the zip puller through the bottom opening of the zip and close the zip. 12. Press lightly. 13. Ensure zip is flush at the waist edge and no puckering has occurred down the length of the zip. 14. Important: You should not be able to visibly see the zip.
