PROCESS HEMMING WITH HERRINGBONE STITCH

1. Assemble all equipment needed for this process. 2. Neaten off the hem of your garment by overlocking arounf the edge. NB. You could also bind the edge with bias binding if you require a more high-end finish. 3. Turn up and press the hem edge, using the hem notches as guides.

4. Take your needle with matching colour thread and tie a secure knot. 5. Roll back the edge of the hem. 6. Start by stitching into the seam allowance of the garment. 7. Working from your right to your left, take a small stitch (one fabric thread) from just below the overlocked edge.

8. Take another small stitch from the garment approx. 1cm along to the right so that the thread is crossing itself. 9. Keep the spacing and stitch lengh consistent. Continue around the entire width of the hem. 10. Check your progress to make sure you have no stitching visible on the right side of the garment.

11. When you reach the end, knot off the threads and work the ends into the seam allowance. 12. Snip the threads. 13. Check your hem making sure no stitching is visible then lightly press. 14. Finished hem.
