Fashion for YOU
by Fashion Stylist Noha Sindi Spring is here with bright colors, striped and floral patterns, slightly roomier cuts with a bit more movement, belted trousers, draped skirts, fringes and comfy shoes. It’s all about comfort with style. Here are some of the latest trends of Spring/Summer 2015.
Yellow: From amber
Shirtdress: Whether they are oversized T-shirt style or something more tailored, shirt dresses are pretty much spring’s perfect piece. Designers reimagined this classic shape with drop waists, double high slits, and more.
and canary to saffron and marigold, there is a shade of yellow for everyone. Punchy yellow seems to be spring’s color of choice, as designers opt for a little sunshine to brighten their lineups. Mango Mango
Black & White Gingham: Fall may have brought us proper plaids, but for spring it’s all about the tiny check.
Dolce & Gabbana
What makes this season’s take on the classic color combination interesting, though, are the various textures, patterns, and silhouettes. Oasis
Stradivarius
Kimono Style Trench Coats: The Kimono jacket is one
Culottes: They don’t exactly seem wearable or flattering to a lot of women, but the trick to pulling them off for spring is to think of culottes as you would a more modern version of an A-line skirt. Tuck in a blouse and add a great heel, choose a highwaist pair and adding a crop top, and stick to basic colors like black, navy, and ivory to get yourself started.
of the most popular pieces for this season. Fashion lovers have adopted this easy-to- wear trend ever since it emerged last fall. The heavier Kimono throws were worn in the winter, but now that spring has arrived we see lighter more floral designs arising. The hippie trend is versatile because one may wear it to work, the beach, or a night out!
Head to Toe White Zara
White may not be everyone’s favorite, but for those who want to try to lighten up their spring wardrobe to a degree, consider trying out a cream or ivory ensemble instead of optic whites. Perhaps mixing textures, layering multiple pieces, and teaming various shades.
Zara
Shoes Zara
Zara
Fringes: Whether you're inspired by the earthy bohemian spirit, rocker chic vibes or vintage flapper flair, fringe shoes will help you channel any look!
Flats and Sneakers: This season is all about comfortable shoes. Whether you are a sneaker head, appreciate minimal twostrap sandals or love plain slides.

Technology for YOU
Issue 13—Devotion
A World of
APPS
pps have become a vital part in every smartphone. Without apps on your screen, you can never be so much entertained at all times. No wonder why so many people nowadays are so tied up to their phone screens.
We will not be talking about Facebook, Twitter or Instagram as they are essentials. YOU! Newsletter has picked up others must-have cool apps from the Editor’s choice.
1#
Snapchat
Is Snapchat
becoming the new buzz that every addict wants to have? That’s right! It is spreading dramatically now. It is a very instant app that takes snaps of your daily life, in the form of still pictures or videos, to be shared with your close ones. It’s a great app to see what your besties are doing in your absence or
what your distant cousin has been up to on a Friday night. Download this app on your phone if you want to kill time when bored.
2#
Path
This is a little bit of
a personal app that not necessarily has to be shared with everyone. It is more like what you did during the day. It can share timings of when you did sleep, get up or the places you’ve been to. It is cool in a way that your friends can track you during the day and you can also show off about the fancy restaurant you went to dine at. Download this app if you want to keep track of your beloved ones.
3#
Shazam
If you are a music
lover, then shazam would be a must. Have you ever wondered how you can get the song you are listening to at the DJ party? Shazam can do this trick for you in seconds!
How to Achieve
Organization for YOU
Tasks?
I
n a fast paced world, we are filled
with to-do lists and busy calendars. It’s almost impossible to keep a Post-It note completely empty. Sometimes, it’s actually hard to try to achieve tasks or do shopping at a given time. But what to do then? Is there a way to accomplish tasks? Certainly, there is.
1. Prioritize Every one would note down stuff they want to get, buy or do. That doesn’t mean all stuff should be done at the same time as some things would be more important than others. Deciding which task should be achieved sooner is the first step. That is what is known as prioritizing. Know your priority !
2. Put a Time Limit It’s not about just putting a task there on paper. There has to be a time limit for when to achieve the task (ex when to buy that cool handbag). Putting a time limit will give you a sense of organization to organize your time accordingly. When putting a time limit, stick to it! That way, you will accomplish what you want in no time.
3. Update the List Updating the list every now and then is as important as writing down the list. Once you have done something, cross it or put a small tick next to it. It would relieve you, trust that!

Issue 13—Devotion
The Joy and Pain of
Being an Entrepreneur
By Cecian Boyce
E
verybody likes the idea of being a successful business person or an entrepreneur in a society where we have Richard Branson, Donald Trump and other successful wealth business moguls as our role models. There are many business people who are very successful yet we forget that at one stage in the past, they were not successful at all. They were start-up business people who envisaged to be successful and wealthy. Nobody finds it easy to imagine Donald Trump or Richard Branson as start-up business men working to be successful and wealthy. They are now bigger than life. They are now able to draw envy and respect from all.
The truth is that when you are an inspiring successful business person, you have to start from the bottom to work yourself up. You need to be determined to succeed. There should be no room for failure. Yet, you will fail in the beginning and maybe a couple of times more in your attempts to start a successful business life. You will definitely experience some difficulties on your way to success. It is not how many times you fall but how many times you get up. You will come to face customers or clients who do not want to pay for your services. You will meet some customers and fellow business people who are determined to undermine your values as an upcoming business person. They will doubt your ability to deliver and they will undermine you in many ways that make you feel really bad and discouraged. I am sure that successful business moguls like Donald Trump and Richard Branson had familiar circumstances at the beginning of their journey to success and wealth .
THEME TOPIC: DEVOTION These two successful men come from different backgrounds yet they both managed to become huge successful business men. One has to ask what they both have in common that afforded them to be successful? One word comes to mind, ‘Determination’.
As your success grows so does your competition. As more younger and invitational business people come into the business world. Now the internet web business gurus are sweeping in thousands of clients and customers and making millions if not trillions of dollars.
These two successful men are and were always determined to achieve their goals. No matter what obstacles and challengers they faced on their journey to become successful and wealthy business men. All the cash flow in the world does not take the role of good old determination or grit . In other words , you can have enough cash to start your business yet if you don't have determination or grit, you will eventually give up on your dream as you will not be able to move forward in difficult times. You will give up on your dream and properly join the employee status.
This is evident that the business world is changing and evolving. So if you feel uncomfortable with technologies like Skype and webinar, then you will be left behind in business. Now we can sit at home and do all our business and able to reach millions of clients or customers by utilizing the correct technology. This is the face of the new business environment.
Business entrepreneurs make some huge sacrifices to become as successful and wealthy. There is definitely a mind set change from being a mere employee to a potential employer. It definitely takes more than having the capital to start-up a business. This huge task comes with sleepless nights, huge stress and fatigue. It comes with unhealthy marriages and no friendships at times.
A start-up business person is the entire company staffing. You are the CEO, the company secretary, the marketing personnel, the operational staff, manager and probably much more. You are the entire company until you get enough income to employ a staff component.
This is the challenging aspect of being an entrepreneur as you carry the vision of your business and you grow it step by step until you are ready to get other people to buy into your business.
You continue dreaming and being determined to succeed. The challenge is to keep your dream alive no matter what circumstances you face. Your challenge is to continue moving forward and keep up with business trends and technology advancements. Your challenge is to remain relative in a ever changing business atmosphere.
Now I can sit in my home office and have a meeting with my board of directors or clients situated in any country in the world. Without having to travel through the ever increasing traffic. This also enables me to save on the cost of travelling and it also saves me time.
There are many types of businesses however in this day and age, what sells more is information. We are in the age of internet technology focused business. We are in the age of the webinar where we connect with suppliers via our computers and buy their goods or services via the web. Walking to our local grocer or mall is now becoming an option, as in most developed countries we don't need to physically move from our homes. This is changing face of business. Now we can Skype with our potential clients or have a conference call with a number of clients or staff.
It is definitely exciting times for upcoming business people as there are so many exciting options in business. Now we have all the information and technology at our finger tips. However, the basic characteristic to success is still Determination and grit as only those that make moves cause waves.

The Process of Being a Business Owner Zakia Attar
YOU ! Interview akia is simplistic, casual and natural looking. She is a lively and friendly person while some used to think she was not. She sat for an afternoon tea with me for the YOU! Interview.
YOU: You are a Thob and Abaya designer, what inspired you to become one? Zakia:
My mother-in-law taught me how to appreciate tailoring times, and I always loved fabrics so I was inspired to open a shop.
YOU: And how did it all start? Z:
It began as a hobby in 2005, then I started showcasing Thobs in a very informal way in Ramadan. Later on, I told my husband of how serious I am about this, so he welcomed the idea and was very supportive. In 2012, I opened the shop by partnering up with my husband.
YOU: Do you think family takes a big part on your decisions when opening a business ? Z:
It’s important to have family support, and I was lucky in every way because I was surrounded by it. I had a supported mother who also happened to be active in community and elected herself in the Chamber of Commerce. Also, I'm very independent and know how to manage myself and time due to the time I spent in boarding school and college.
YOU: As a Saudi Entrepreneur, what were the struggles you faced? Was it easy with the rules
and regulations? Z:
No, it wasn’t easy. There are many challenges because of Ministry of Commerce’s restrictions. For instance, having to post a logo in a newspaper to make sure no one has something similar. Also, I had to hire Saudis in my shop due to the Saudization thing. The fact that store signs should be fireproof. Rules like that makes it hard to do business. Yet, the point is to overcome them.
YOU: So what is your shop all about and your designs? Z:
My Abayas are all about simplicity, comfort and colors. I love colors so much. We only have two seasons here, summer and winter. And since our weather is usually hot throughout the year, I wanted to make Abayas that are suitable for hot and humid weather. I use light cotton and bright colors for everyday use. My Inspiration is the British brand Cathy Kidson.
YOU: What are you up to and your future plans?
this from my mom, so I jumped at the chance of participating.
YOU: What are your clients‟ comments? Z:
Sometimes business is bitter sweet. You get negative clients who love to put you down and some lift you up. Like everything, there is the good and the bad. But it's ok as long as you don't let the negative consume you and get in the way of the fun and creativity.
“The Word entrepreneur is misused. Most people are just business owners. An entrepreneur is someone who innovates.”
Z: A school acquaintance, who owns I Love Heshma store, helped me brainstorm and get ideas. She even taught me the 101 of business. In turn, I wanted to do the same for others who want to sell but don’t know how. I will let them showcase their products at my shop for a few days. YOU: How did you find your experience as being part of WED, Women‟s Entrepreneur Day? Z:
It made Zakia bloom. I was always the quiet and shy one. I also remember my class mates used to make fun of my name back in the days, so I was always bullied and made fun of. I wanted to show everyone now that I am capable of doing something good. It is also that I care about the community as I learned

The Devotion of a Photographer with Abeer Bajandouh
A
beer Bajandouh is a professional
and dedicated photographer. She combined between the study of journalism and photography, taking her master from the UK. She did photography projects such as The Birkin Project and Immigration in Saudi Arabia. YOU! Newsletter took the time to interview her.
YOU ! Interview YOU: How did you start photography as a passion of yours? Abeer:
It was about seven years ago. It was part of my media studies as I studied journalism. I took photojournalism, and I absolutely loved it! So after I finished my bachelor, I decided to study photography. I started taking courses in Saudi Arabia but they weren't fulfilling so I moved to London and took short courses then a master.
YOU: Did it start at a young age? A: I didn’t know that I could study art when I was a child. Studying art in Saudi Arabia was not popular and people didn’t take it seriously. It was during my bachelor studies that I realized I could study art as a subject in university. I always enjoyed art and photography , so I needed to take it in an academic level.
YOU: What is the difference between photojournalism and normal photography? A: I’m more into photojournalism and I am doing documentary photography. I’m also doing projects that involves interviews and combining texts, And I’m into publications. I’ve done a publication in photography so they are related in a way. I would say.
YOU: So you like the field of photojournalism? A:
I’m more into doing documentary photography than photojournalism. It is actually to document people’s lives in a way. Photojournalism is more about working in magazines and newspapers but documentary is more open.
YOU: You said in your blog that “A photographer is a storyteller.” What stories would you like to tell from your photographs? A: that’s an interesting question! For me, it’s not about taking beauty pictures. It’s about taking meaningful pictures. If a picture has a meaning for you, it will have a meaning for others. The stories that I’ve been sharing is about immigration and living abroad. I’ve done a project about Saudi women’s lives in the UK.
YOU: What intrigued you to do blog posts and blogging with your photography? A: Well, you have to upload your work so people can see it.
YOU: Tell us about The Birkin Project which is about fashion bloggers? A: It is to say that you can save money for good things. It was the idea of fashion bloggers and it has a great sense of humor.
YOU: They say that every photographer has a style. What do you think is your style and why? A:
From where do I start? I think I’m doing documentary style, but I don’t like to limit myself so I like to try different techniques and styles. And Just have fun with it, you know. I don’t always like to use people’s faces in the photographs to add an element of mystery. The viewer can have its own vision of the picture.
YOU: What elements would you like to use in your photographs? A:
I really enjoy photographing places. Sometimes I do still life, but I
like spaces and environmental portraits. Stuff like that.
YOU: You are also tutoring about photography. How is it like to tutor and is it hard to get people to understand? A: Tutoring teaches you how to be patient, and it is a completely different experience to be a tutor from a photographer. And you have to have communication skills firstly. You have to be passionate and love what you’re doing. Helping others is a great element of teaching, and to be able to teach other people how to understand photography. And you grow as a person, you know. You grow and learn from other people around you.
YOU: You use journaling style when most blogger use informal and personal structure. A: I think I’m using instagram as a diary to myself, really. YOU: Speaking of instagram, instagram has been an easy tool for many people, and it is a photographer dream come true. Do you agree with that? A: Yeah, it gives you the ability of sharing your work, and it’s easy to use. And it’s about pictures of the day. So, yeah!
YOU: What camera would you like to recommend for the ones who want to be pro photographers? A: In terms of cameras, I’m using Cannon 5D Mark 3. I’ve been using it for two years. It is one of the

Humans or still object?
YOU: What advice would you give for someone who wants to be a photographer?
A: I like both, but if I had to choose, then portrait pictures.
B&W or Color?
A: Well, you need your camera and to read about photography and understand it because this is important. I don’t like people who take pictures here and there and they don’t understand anything about photography. You have to educate yourself first before taking pictures. You have to understand the medium before using it. And just follow your passion and have fun with it, and don’t be afraid of not taking good pictures. You need to learn from your mistakes. You need to have faith and to be original, I think. Originality is very important.
A: It depends on my mood, but B&W makes you imagine and to look more into the picture. So Black and white!
Jeddah or UK? A: Both, actually! Jeddah is where I was raised and UK is my second half. I like to live here and there.
Countryside or Urban? A: I enjoy the city life .
Babies or Adults? A: Adults.
Girls or Boys? A: Girls to understand each other better.
Personal
YOU: So some people are copycats and lack originality, what„s your comment on that? A: Well, if you want to be a photographer, you have to be original, and you have to do something unique. And you have to express yourself. You have to honor people. Because if you don’t honor people, people won’t feel your art. It has to come from your heart and your soul, so they can relate to it in a way.
What is the best place you have been to? Europe and Qatar Worst Place? I can’t think of any. If you went to a deserted place, what would you do? I don’t know maybe just looking at nature,
relaxing
and praying.
@abeer.bjn Www.abeerBjn.com Abeerbjn.wordpress.com
Are you with phone photography or against it? It’s a great invention. I’m using it myself, but in terms of quality, you need a camera.
Do you see photography as a skill you learn or a talent you are born with? It’s more to do with talent, vision and education.
