As usual, every issue has a theme, and the theme of this issue is Nature. In my opinion, nature is the essence of life. Without nature, we cannot see the real beauty of the world. In today’s world, people are lost in their urban lives: the skyscrapers and the industrialized cities and gradually forgetting about nature. Everyone should give nature its right. We also did a little poll to ask people how often they spent time with nature and you will find their answers in the following pages. Enjoy! Jawaher Zahran

Events SG’s EVENT:

Saudi Women in Shura Council By: Jawaher Zahran

The position of Saudi women today has become powerful. Women are becoming more involved in leading roles in society such as participating in the Shura Council. On March 12, 2012, the Student Government team of Dar Al Hekma organized an event entitled Saudi Women in Shura Council A Historical Decision. It was definitely a remarkable event for all women of Saudi Arabia since they can somehow contribute to the political decisions in the country. There were guest speakers who talked about the importance of women’s role in society and also the importance of education because without education the society cannot grow and develop. The two-hour event was extremely constructive and informative. Law Students were very excited to attend for the event held a good meaning to them.

When a Speech Tells A Lot By: Suzanne Zaidan

E

very time I attend a speech or a lecture given by a visitor speaker, I cannot resist taking my pen and papers to record the main ideas or valuable statements, advice or quotes that a speaker may say. Unfortunately, in the last speech I did not. Her Royal Highness Princess Nouf Bint Faisal Bin Turki Al Saud’s glorious words have deeply carved a hallmark in the audience’s hearts and souls. This is how I actually felt listening to her long sincere speech in which she kept on bestowing precious jewels of words.

There were many statements in the speech that struck me on the Career Fair on Wednesday March 7th, 2012. I write them down now to compensate for not taking my ‘writing kit’ to the speech. In my opinion, Her Highness’s words have simply, as well as sufficiently, always followed by bliss and delight. revolved around two main themes, i.e. Team Unity and Optimism. I list the main points of the speech, I am sure that I have not managed spontaneously, as I managed to to fully uncover the chest of jewels I recall them hours later: came across today, but listing what I remembered from them is one reason for me to preserve them in in you. Another reason that has also urged me to write this ‘belated’ note-taking is to contribute with a little token of appreciation to the members of DAH who attended the whole speech despite lacking the knowledge of the Arabic language in

I believe that in every encounter, no matter how brief, there is something for us to learn. I also know that there might have been many other lessons for me to learn today that I had not noticed, but the most important lesson of all, is never to go to a speech without my pen and papers. Finally, I felt if I do not record what I remember from today’s event, I will not do justice neither to the speaker nor to the non-native attendees. And I do not think I can!

Beauty For YOU

Tips For A Natural Dazzling Make-Up By: Jawaher Zahran

Beauty lies in simplicity. Every girl wants to look naturally pretty, so in order to do that without looking fake, here are some tips that will make you look enticingly gorgeous. Get these must-haves in your make-up bag today!

#1 Moisturizer Before applying any sort of foundation, you should first apply some moisturizer on your face in order to moisten the skin before distributing the foundation. Doing this will prevent your skin from becoming dry and will give it a natural glow. Suggestion: Precision: Active Moisture Boost from Channel.

#2 Mineral Foundation You can use cream foundation, but if you are using a power foundation for a daily use, it is preferable to use the mineral one for it reflects the light and gives shine. It also makes your skin look naturally soft without making it appear like you are wearing a mask of foundation. A mineral foundation can also have SPF 15 sunscreen that protects your face from harmful sun rays. Suggestion: i.d BareMinerals Foundation from Sephora.

#3 Bronzer It is advisable to use a bronzer so your face would not look too bright. Apply the bronzer on your cheekbones, and also apply a bit on your nose bridge if you want to give it a tanned look. This can add warmth to your face. Try to avoid the bronzer that has glitter. Keep it matte and natural. Suggestion: Honey Bronze from the Body Shop.

#4 The Blusher Although you applied bronzer, you can also use a normal blusher. Try to pick the color of the blusher from all the brown or orange shades. The blusher will always give a nice look on your face.

#5 The Lipstick Make-up can never be complete without a lipstick, but do pick the right shade. When choosing the color of a lipstick, avoid flashy or bright colors, always use colors such as light brown or beige. If you picked beige, choose a color that is different from your skin tone. It has to be a bit darker so that you don’t look pale. But always remember, the lighter your lips are, the more natural you will look.

Of course there are other make up elements like the eyeliner, the eye shadow, the eyebrow pencil and the mascara. However, we only mentioned the most important elements that you should pay attention to for a natural, dazzling make up.

An Interview with a DAH Employee:

Bedor Salem Bedor is an (MIS) Management Information Systems graduate of 2011 and a former Student Government MIS Representative and a Vice President. Now she joined the DAH family in a different way, as a Math Teaching Assistant. U! Newsletter took the time to interview her.

Meditation With Nature By: Tonja EdgeComb

I

had planned to take pictures of a sunrise over West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine. I am creating a sunrise mediation video and wanted shots from the most eastern point of the US. I wanted to see the first light of a new day. I stayed at the Eastland Motel just a few miles from my destination so I could be up early and ready to meet the day’s first light. My alarm went off at 3:30. I took a look out the window and saw rain. I knew there would be no sunrise photos for me today. I puttered in my room, had a few cups of coffee and in my head heard the Rolling Stones singing, “You Can’t Always get What You Want, but If you try Sometimes, You Just Might Find, You Get what you Need.” I knew I had to go the West Quoddy despite the weather. I have always allowed messages in song to lead my days. Today would be no different. I packed, loaded the car and headed down the road.

mission yesterday. These last two days brought a leisurely drive up the coast, dinner with a new friend and time in the fog with the sound of crashing waves. It was just what I needed to put life into perspective and provide the revelations I needed to prepare for the upcoming full moon and all life is bringing. I took a short video of West Quoddy Head after my meditation. My camera and I do not photograph fog well, especially early in the morning, so it does not do the experience justice. Try if you will, to close your eyes and listen to the sounds. You just might be able to feel a glimpse of the oneness that comes with losing yourself in the mist of the Downeast coast.

I was the only car at the park entrance. Not really that surprising. It was 4:45 am and a heavy fog prevented me from seeing beyond the lighthouse that I had photographed the day before, when the sun was somewhat shining. No sun today. I had the place to my self. The mist was heavy and engulfed everything. You could see wisp of fog moving along the ground, insisting I join it as it circled me. I began down the trail, my only company was the caw of crows and a bunny that nibbled on grass along the path as it maintained a safe distance from me. You could hear the sound of the surf through the trees and every few minutes it was joined by a fog horn. It was just me, the fog, and the surf. I walked down some steps off from the trail and was able to find a rock that wasn’t too wet to sit on to meditate. The sound of the fog horn played the role of meditation gong. Each mystical tone reminded me to return my focus to my breathing instead of following my thoughts. I had been planning this overnight visit since New Year’s day. I had envisioned the images I would capture of the sun’s first glimpse of the rocky coastline. I had the music selected and copyrights purchased for use in the video. Now the video would be postponed and I would need to squeeze a sunny visit to Lubec into my hectic schedule. I heard the fog horn. I sat there, wrapped in fog, breathing the mist, lost in the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks. Life was complete. I was at PEACE. I sat absorbed as one downloading the messages being sent to me from Universal Consciousness.

Once again the UNIVERSE provided what I needed and didn’t recognize myself. Lately life has been busy, like everyone I’m sure. I do take my time to meditate twice daily and I journal for my own benefit, but I never would take 2 days out of my schedule just for me, not at this point, except under the pretenses of work. This trip yielded no pictures of sunrises or sunsets, as I had planned, but instead I received a precious gift. The gift of self revelation and acceptance delivered in the early morning Downeast mist. My favorite time to visit the ocean is during storms. I love the fog, the sounds of the surf and the feeling of tranquility as I get lost in the experience of a coastal storm. I had no expectation of this pleasure when I embarked on my

Nature-Deprived By: Walaa Abdulla As I live in a city, I am deprived from staring at the moon in a clear place without any building and just the earth and the sky. I am deprived from being taken by the magic of the forest to the heart of the forest, and I am deprived from one essential outlet of beauty. I am deprived from nature. Nature is a power of beauty and spirituality. I always wonder how nature can change a lot in me. Just by being in a green calm place, our whole life will look fruitful. The most interesting thing about nature is its power to inspire. Philosophically speaking, nature builds some kind of a relationship with you, an unbreakable one. It bonds you with the core of your existence as part of this universe. It is not easy to understand to what extent nature can be part of us, because that means we clearly understand ourselves and the nature, and the type of relationship between those two. Scientifically speaking, the relation between nature and human beings has been studied in specific.

pact on our lives. One of the main reasons people travel is that they want to be exposed to a new kind of nature. This make them feel way better. Thinking about the type of influence that nature has on us leads us to think of the type of influence we have on nature. What I exactly mean to say is how can we contribute to keep our nature natural?! And stop causing harmful things to it. It is everyone's responsibility to save the environment and consider it in our daily life. As for now, earth could be a disastrous place if people continued to ignore their responsibility for any sake.

Many studies were conducted to determine the influence of weather on the mood. The findings were not fixed in all studies. In general, they say that people are different in their “ A light wind swept over the corn, and susceptibility to get influenced by weather. Some people seem to be more affected by all nature laughed in the sunshine. ” the positive statuses of weather; others were Anne Bronte more influenced by the negative ones.
