Defamation

A general term of publication of anything which is harmful to the good name or reputation of another or tends to bring him into disrepute.

Libel

Defamation committed by means of writing, printing, radio, or similar means. A libel is a public and malicious imputation of a crime, or of a vice or defect, real or imaginary, or any act, omission, condition, status, or circumstance tending to cause the dishonor, discredit, or contempt of a natural or juridical person, or to blacken the memory of one who is dead.

Slander

Slander or oral defamation is definced as speaking of base or defamatory words with an intention to prejudice another person in his or her reputation. Slander by deed, on the other hand, is an act committed that tends to dicredit or dishonor another individual.

Cyber Libel

Libel “committed through a computer system or any other similar means that may be devised in the future”. This type of libel penalizes one degree higher than ordinary libel.
