En este inicio del junio barcelonés se siente la libertad en su punto de partida y se manifiestan indicios de lo que se avecina. La sensación de que el siguiente turno es el tuyo, el sentimiento del viaje por venir, el bono de mitad de año sin gastar o la mañana de viernes, en la que sabes que la explosión de un jugoso fin de semana está por llegar.

Style & Beauty Art Direction A Sandra Cañameras (27) y Aida Molano (21) les une su pasión por la moda, la fotografía, el diseño, las tendencias y el arte en todas sus disciplinas. Tituladas en Asesoría de Imagen y en Tendencias y Estilismo por la Escuela de Artes y Técnicas de la Moda de Barcelona, estas dos jóvenes emprendedoras llevan ya a sus espaldas una considerable trayectoria en el mundo de la imagen, la belleza y el estilismo. Reconocen que no es fácil vivir de la moda, pero aseguran que con ganas y dedicación cada cual puede encontrar su espacio en el sector. Un espacio que se vuelve más amplio si, como ellas, la imaginación, la creatividad y las ideas, van más allá del mundo de la moda. La indumentaria, queda en un estudiado segundo plano si el proyecto así lo precisa. Así ocurre en “The Butchers”, uno de sus últimos trabajos junto al fotógrafo barcelonés Jesús Chamorro (www.jesuschamorro.com). En este proyecto sale a relucir el background de cada una de ellas. Aida que procede del mundo de las bellas artes y Sandra del mundo de la belleza y la peluquería, han fusionado sus ideas para crear esta serie fotográfica de gran impacto visual, inspirada en la descontextualización de elementos, el peinado y el arte.

Sandra Cañameras (27) and Aida Molano (21) are united by their passion for fashion, photography, design, trends and art in all its disciplines. Graduates in Image Consultancy and Trends and Styles from the School of Arts and Fashion Techniques in Barcelona, these two young entrepreneurs already have a considerable trajectory behind them in the world of image, beauty and style. They recognise that fashion is not an easy way to make a living, but say that with enthusiasm and dedication, each has been able to find their place in the sector. A place that can become larger or easier to find by using imagination, creativity and ideas beyond the world of fashion. Clothing is relegated to second place if the project so requires. This occurs in “The Butchers”, one of their recent works alongside photographer Jesus Chamorro (www.jesuschamorro.com). This project shows both artists’ background in arts.

Aida, who comes from the world of fine arts and Sandra, who hails from the beauty and hairdressing industries, have merged their ideas to create this series of photographs of great visual impact, inspired by the decontextualisation of elements, styling and art. This is no doubt a pioneering work which will arouse many feelings in the viewer, but one which will not leave anyone indifferent.

“Compositor, fotógrafo y escritor adicto al silencio”; así se define a sí mismo Adriano Galante. “Creador impulsivo, inevitable multi instrumentista y frontman implosivo en busca del punto de luz donde se encuentran sus instintos, necesidades e influencias artísticas para confluir en una voz apátrida, una imagen hipnótica, una palabra salvaje”. Cómo artista multidisciplinario, son muchos y variados los campos en los que se ha destacado: Fundador de The Beautiful Taste, trío de rock convulsivo, performance eléctrica y poesía experimental, que, tras dos años de intensa trayectoria, estrena álbum de debut en Toronto y Nueva York en Marzo de 2009, bajo el nombre de Of Our Cornea. Autor de los libros SIN (2006), CON (2007), EN (2008) y A (2009).

“Composer, photographer and writer addicted to silence” is how Adriano Galante describes himself. “Impulsive creator, inevitable multi-instrumentalist and implosive frontman, in search of the point of light where his instincts, needs and artistic influences converge in an unpatriotic voice, a hypnotic image, a savage word.” As a multi-disciplined artist, he has evolved in many and varied fields, in which we can find some highly interesting works: Founder of The Beautiful Taste, a convulsive rock trio, electrical performance and experimental poetry act, which after an intense two year trajectory released its debut album in Toronto and New York in March 2009, under the name Of Our Cornea. Author of books SIN (2006), CON (2007), EN (2008) and A (2009).

Jimena Farfán

Henry Saiz ha sabido crear su propia fórmula, música con personalidad compleja y emotiva, electrónica de club que integra melodía, intensidad, profundidad y máximo detalle. El sonido de este productor deviene de la vertiente más melódica de la electrónica experimental, logrando adaptar su personal técnica de producción y uso de la melodía, a un lenguaje muy bailable. Tras haber editado en algunos de los sellos más interesantes del panorama español, como Paradigma Musik, Software o en su propio sello Natura Sonoris, en 2008 Henry se introdujo en la esfera del sonido prog-tech-house mundial al fichar para el reconocido sello inglés Renaissance. 2009 no ha podido empezar mejor para Henry, editando producciones y remixes para Bedrock, Global Underground, Renaissance o Proton; remezclando a Guy J y Jimmy Van M, además de lanzar su propio programa de radio “The Labyrinth” en Proton Radio. Así, éste está siendo también el año de despunte para Henry, SONAR lo ha escogido para hacer un espectacular cierre del escenario principal. El 20 de junio, sábado en Sonar de noche (6 am) Henry estará dispuesto a sacudir las mentes de miles de espectadores. Convirtiéndose así, en una de las grandes promesas de la eletrónica en España. En entrevista, Henry nos habla al respecto.

En este momento parece que ya no hay purismos y los géneros se mezclan cada vez más, ¿hacia dónde crees que se dirige el sonido electrónico mundial? Como bien dices la frontera entre estilos en la electrónica de club está cada vez más difuminada. Sinceramente creo que las etiquetas, aunque necesarias, sólo consiguen limitar la libertad creativa. Sirven para poner límites y ayudar a definir un sonido pero también te obligan a no salirte de unos parámetros y a que no se lleguen a crear formas de expresión radicalmente nuevas. Sinceramente no sé a dónde va el sonido electrónico mundial pero quizás sea exactamente a eso, a que las fronteras entre estilos sean cada vez mas difíciles de diferenciar y a que cada vez importen menos. Creo que eso es totalmente utópico, pero sería positivo, la música es música y no se puede encerrar en palabras y etiquetas.

¿Qué parte de tu personalidad se refleja más a la hora de crear música? Mmm... Creo que soy bastante apasionado en mis ideas y convicciones y creo que eso se traslada a mi música, Un amigo siempre me dice que mis tracks parecen discursos.. no sé cómo tomarme eso jeje.. Siempre llevo inconscientemente mis tracks al punto más alto posible, soy maximalista por naturaleza. ¿Cuál dirías que es el elemento diferenciador de Henry Saiz? Creo que me costaría mucho llegar a definir eso sin parecer un ególatra y que eso lo tiene que decidir el oyente. Pero me gusta creer que mis tracks pueden emocionar a quien los oiga además de hacer bailar. 30

¿Qué significado tiene para ti haber sido incluido en el SONAR y además para cerrar Sonar Club sábado 20? Me hizo una ilusión increíble tener ese reconocimiento y más en un festival como Sonar y en un horario de tanta responsabilidad. Creo también que es importante que Sonar confié en artistas españoles, no solo por ser españoles obviamente, si no por dar reconocimiento y mostrar al resto de la escena mundial que aquí se está haciendo muy buena música y propuestas originales. Este año se nota esa apuesta al contar con gente como Hd Substance, The Requesters o por supuesto Angel Molina. A través de la música la gente hace catarsis ¿cuál producción, remix o momento en tu carrera ha significado la mayor catarsis? Tienes razón, en mi caso, cada vez que empiezo un proceso creativo como una canción es una autentica catarsis. En todos estos procesos realmente dejas mucho de ti en la música y para mí cada track o EP que hago habla bastante de un momento de mi vida y de mis impresiones. Uno de los temas que más me ha ayudado a conectar con el público este año ha sido mi remix de Radiohead (Reckoner, Henry Saiz Remix). Natura Sonoris, Renaissance, Bedrock, Global Underground, ¿qué sigue ahora? ¿cómo se plantea el segundo semestre del 2009 para Henry Saiz? Pues por ahora seguir trabajando con esos sellos intentando dar lo mejor, pero bueno, cada día aparece algún proyecto nuevo, así que no sé qué pueda pasar. Por ahora mi objetivo a medio plazo más importante es mi larga duración, que supongo que lo editaremos con Renaissance y por supuesto seguir trabajando mucho en mi sello Natura Sonoris.

Henry Saiz has created his own formula, a complex and emotive electronic club music which brings together melody, intensity, depth and maximum attention to detail. The sound of this producer drinks from the well of the most melodic source of experimental electronic; he is able to adapt his personal production technique and usage of melodies to create 100% dance floor music. After editing for some of the most interesting labels on the Spanish scene such as Paradigm Musik, Software, or his own wellrenowned label Nature Sonoris, in 2008 Henry made the step up to the first division of the prog-tech-house world sound, when he signed for the mythical English label Renaissance. And 2009 could not have begun better for Henry, with editing productions and remixes for Bedrock, Global Underground, Renaissance and Proton; re-mixing of Guy J and Jimmy Van M, besides the launch of his own radio show: The Labyrinth” on Proton Radio. He has being chosen to make the spectacular closing of Sonar´s main stage. On June 20th, Saturday in Sonar night (6 am) Henry will be ready to shake the minds of thousands of spectators. Henry is now one of the most popular up and coming Spanish artists and his constant growth has enabled him to spread his music worldwide. He is, without doubt, one of the new talents on the global electronic music scene.

At this point it seems that there is no purism in electronic music styles and the genres are mixed more all the time. Where do you think the global electronic sound is going? As you say, the boundaries between electronic music genres are increasingly blurred. I sincerely believe that the labels sometimes limit the creative freedom. They set limits and help define a sound but also force you to maintain certain parameters and do not create ways to reach a radically new expression. Frankly I do not know where the global electronic sound is going, but perhaps that’s exactly what we should expect, to reduce the boundaries between styles. It would be good, but is probably a utopia; music is music and can not be locked up in words and tags. Which part of your personality influences you more when you create music? Mmm ... I think I’m quite passionate about my ideas and beliefs, you can feel that in my music, a friend of mine always tells me that my tracks are like speeches .. I do not know how to take it .. hehe. Unconsciously I always bring my tracks to the highest point possible, I am a maximalist by nature .. What does it mean to you to have been included in the Sonar Festival and to be the last act at Sonar Club on Saturday 20? It was very exciting to have that feeling of recognition, even more in this kind of festival and in a slot with such a responsibility. I also think it is very important that Sonar relies on Spanish artists, not obviously just because I’m Spanish, but because there are a lot of original proposals and a lot of good music produced here. This year we note that trend with people like Hd Substance, The Requesters or Angel Molina. 32

What would you say is the key differentiator of Henry Saiz? I think it would be hard for me to explain that without sounding a bit self-worshipping; the listener should be the one to decide that. But I like to believe that my tracks can thrill those who hear them and also make them dance. Through music people achieve catharsis. Which production, remix or moment in your career has brought your greatest catharsis? You’re right, in my case, every time I start a creative process as a song, it’s a real catharsis. In all these processes you really leave a big part of yourself in the music; for me each track or EP reflects moments of my life and my impressions. One that helped me a lot to connect with the audience this year was my remix of Radiohead. Natura Sonoris, Renaissance, Bedrock, Global Underground. What’s next? What can we expect from Henry Saiz in the second half of 2009? For now I would like to continue working with those labels, always trying to do my best, but every day some new projects arise, so I don’t know what’s going to happen. Right now my medium-term goal is my long play, which I guess we’ll edit with Renaissance, but of course I’ll continue working hard on my label, Natura Sonoris. Within the European electronic scene where would you place Barcelona? I think it’s a pretty powerful core especially in Spain; but there are many aspects where it can be improved such as clubs and events relating to sound, schedules, prices… In terms of the music that is played in Barcelona and trying to be as objective as I can, I think there is enough quality and a scene that is defining itself. There are many quality producers in Barcelona.

barcelona introspectiva Apuntando el objetivo de la cámara hacia sí misma, Cindy Sherman (1954, USA) se ha forjado un nombre como una de las más respetadas fotógrafas de finales del siglo XX. Aunque la mayoría de sus fotografías son imágenes de ella misma, definitivamente no son autorretratos. Por el contrario, Sherman utiliza su propia imagen como un vehículo para comentar acerca de una variedad de temas del mundo moderno: el papel de la mujer, el papel de la artista y muchos más. A través de sus fotografías, a menudo consideradas ambiguas y eclécticas, Sherman ha sabido desarrollar un estilo propio que puede verse plasmado claramente en todas sus diferentes series de obras.En esta oportunidad, Anaí Ibarra y Carolina Zerpa, fotógrafas de la revista, han querido colocarse en la piel de Sherman, para convertirse a la vez en fotógrafas y modelos, a través de estas fotografías tributo, seleccionadas de distintas series de Sherman y ambientadas en escenarios Barceloneses.

CANNES ‘09 / CUANDO LOS GIGANTES COLISIONAN Si en el mundo del cine existiera algo parecido a un campeonato internacional de ligas mayores, este año el Festival de Cannes sería la sede. Un encuentro entre varios pesos pesados: la clase de enfrentamiento que no se ve muy a menudo. Tarantino, Lee, Von Trier, Campion, Almodóvar y Coixet enfrentados. El sólo hecho de escribir todos estos nombres juntos me emociona, confunde y marea un poco. Aún siendo el mayor festival de cine que existe, la impresionante lista de competidores oficiales no fue suficiente. Fuera de competición nos encontramos a Amenábar y su costosa y muy comentada Ágora; Terry Gilliam presentando Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (y que sea la última película de Heath Ledger a veces nos hace olvidar que cuenta con Jonny Deep, Colin Farrell y Jude Law en su reparto); la nueva cinta de terror de Sam Raimi Drag me to Hell; o la nueva entrega de Pixar, que con seguridad será un éxito taquillero, Up. Ni qué decir sobre el bombardeo de información que nos trajo la mezcla de estos apellidos en la misma coctelera. Los más influyentes medios de comunicación estaban presentes reportando todo, y cuando digo todo, quiero decir todo, celebridades (este año la sensación fue Bradgelina), fiestas, eventos de caridad, moda, y sí, a veces incluso se informó de cine. Importante, superficial, profundo y anecdótico, cada detalle fue plenamente cubierto: El efecto que la crisis económica tiene sobre el festival El exceso de películas violentas este año La muy sonada bomba Von Trier y su pequeño desencuentro con la prensa durante la conferencia de prensa de Antichrist, así como su autoproclamación como “el mejor director en el mundo” (sabíamos que era un poco arrogante, pero ¡¿es esto en serio?!). Las escenas de sexo gay entre Jim Carrey, Ewan Macgregor y Rodrigo Santoro de la cinta I love you Phill Morris (¿Está mal que tenga muchas ganas de ver esta película?) La muy glamorosa alfombra roja del film Inglorious Basterds de Tarantino, con resultados finales bastante decepcionantes. El caluroso recibimiento de Los Abrazos Rotos de Almodóvar y la fría recepción del último trabajo de Coixet Map of the sounds of Tokyo. La importancia de los festivales cinematográficos, la conservación de las películas e incluso la relevancia del cine. Podíamos seguir con este recuento, pero estamos seguros de que ustedes, los cinéfilos y frikis del cine, ya han leído, escuchado y hablado de todo esto (tal vez demasiado). Así que tenemos una idea, ¿qué tal si examinamos un poco las no tan famosas, ni caras, ni mediáticas cintas de este año, sino las que en realidad vale la pena ver? 56

If there were something like an international world championship in the movie world, this year’s Cannes Film Festival would be it. This was a match between several heavyweights, the kind of match we haven’t seen in a long time. Tarantino, Lee, Von Trier, Campion, Almodóvar and – face to face. Just seeing all of these names together made me excited, confused and a little dizzy. And being the biggest festival there is, this year’s mouth-dropping list of competitors was not enough. Out of competition there was Amenábar and his high profile multimillion production Ágora, Terry Gilliam presenting Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (which by the way was the last movie Heath Ledger made, and that fact sometimes makes us forget that Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law are also in it), Sam Raimi’s new horror film Drag me to Hell and the new Pixar, sure to be a blockbuster, Up. The result of mixing all those big names together in a single event results in a huge avalanche of information. Every major media organizations was there, reporting about everything. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Celebrities (this year was mostly about Bradgelina), parties, charities, fashion, and yes, sometimes they even report about movies, too. Important, superficial, insightful and anecdotic, every single detail was covered: How the economic crisis affected this year’s festival, The excess of violent pictures this year, The very well covered big bomb Von Trier and his little tantrum at the Antichrist press conference and his self-proclamation as “‘the best film director in the world” (I knew he was kind of arrogant, but really???). The gay sex scenes between Jim Carrey, Ewan Macgregor and Rodrigo Santoro in I love you Phil Morris (Is it wrong for me to be really looking forward to watching this?) The very glamorous opening of Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards, with very disappointing results. The warm welcome for Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces and the very cold one for Coixet’s Map of the sounds of Tokyo. The importance of movie festivals, movie preservation and even movie making. And we could go on and on, but hey! I’m sure all you movie freaks have watched, read and spoken all about it (maybe even a little bit too much). So here’s an idea - how about we look a little bit into the not so famous, not so expensive, not so publicized, but reallyworth-seeing films?

IN COMPETITION The White Ribbon Dir. Michael Haneke Sin duda alguna la ganadora absoluta de la edición 2009 del festival. El film de Heneke no sólo ganó la Palma de Oro, también el reconocimiento de público y crítica. Bellamente narrada en blanco y negro cuenta la historia de una pequeña aldea alemana antes de la Primera Guerra Mundial, los horribles eventos que en ella tomaron lugar, y el despreciable comportamiento de sus habitantes como consecuencia. ¿Es la malsana actitud de los habitantes la razón de estos brutales hechos?, ¿Es su naturaleza la causa del horror? Una cinta que debe verse. A Prophet Dir. Jacques Audiard Una de las mejores sorpresas del festival y una de las favoritas para la Palma de Oro. A Prophet nos introduce en el oscuro y cruel sistema penitenciario, donde los débiles no sobreviven a los fuertes y un joven criminal, interpretado brillantemente por Tahar Rahim (fuerte candidato para el premio a mejor actor) debe aprender a vivir dentro del sistema. La cinta de Audiard es una realista y cruel pieza de arte.

Bright Star Dir. Jane Campion La única mujer que ha ganado la Palma de Oro en la historia de festival (The Piano, 1993) regresa para narrar la relación entre el poeta John Keats y su último gran amor Fanny Brawne. Para algunos con la carencia de la usual pasión de Campion, sigue siendo estéticamente hermosa y correcta en su desarrollo. Un film que no puede perderse ningún amante de Keats, de la poesía o del género de época. Fish Tank Dir. Andrea Arnold Como lo mencionó la misma Jane Campion, no muchas mujeres logran llegan hasta Cannes. Sin embargo este año estamos orgullosos de decir que la cantidad no iguala la calidad. El brillante y desnudo retrato que Arnold nos brinda de una adolescente de los barrios bajos de Essex nos enfrenta a una cruel historia de las mujeres en la actualidad. La principiante Katie Jarvis fue uno de los nombres favoritos en optar como mejor actriz por su papel como Mia Williams.

Intermediar / Police Adjective Dir. Corneliu Porumboiu El cine rumano ha estado de moda en los últimos años y el último film de Corneliu Porumboiu, quien fue galardonado con la Camera d’Or por 12:08 East of Bucharest en 2006, es probablemente la continuación de esta nueva ola del Este, pero sin la misma apreciación por parte de los críticos. Dejando esto a un lado, la cinta policiaca al estilo rumano de Porumboiu es rica en narrativa atrapando nuestra atención en todo momento, aunque por periodos parezca que en realidad no está pasando nada. Cambiando la acción por la observación y los usuales gritos y tacos del genero por un dialogo natural e ingenioso, es otro buen ejemplo de la nueva escuela de cine de este país.

Looking for Eric Dir. Ken Loach Otra favorita de la crítica dentro de la selección oficial de este año. Si su éxito es debido a que el legendario jugador de futbol Eric Cantona tenga un papel interpretándose a sí mismo en la cinta o no, es un misterio, como el hecho de que (Loach,que usualmente se enfoca más a dramas sociales, haya escogido el guión de una comedia romántica). De cualquier forma los seguidores de fútbol y del buen cine podrán disfrutar por igual de este divertido, conmovedor y cálido cuento de “pelotas grandes”, héroes internos que surgen en los momentos de más necesidad y amor.

FILMS UN CERTAIN REGARD Precious / Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire Dir. Lee Daniels La lista más inusual de nombres, con los resultados más sorprendentes nos regala esta producción americana. Producida por Oprah Winfrey con Mariah Carey (tratemos de olvidar Glitter por un segundo) y Lenny Kravitz (???) en el reparto, y con la desconocida Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe en el papel principal, Precious nos relata la historia de una adolescente con una vida llena de obstáculos: hija de padres abusivos, madre de un hijo y con otro en camino, educación deficiente, pobreza, sobrepeso y soledad: nos recuerda que todos necesitamos sentirnos amados. A pesar de su reparto sospechoso se ganó el respeto en la Croisette y en la última edición de Sundance. Conmovedora e inspiradora.

Samsung and Delilah Dir. Warwick Thornton Hermoso retrato de un tema muy común (el amor adolescente) de una manera original y en un ambiente poco conocido: las comunidades aborígenes de Australia. Llena de silencios y música, los inmensos paisajes albergan una historia de amor aun más grande. Samsung and Dalilah tienen todo en su contra, como si el amor entre jóvenes no fuera ya lo suficientemente difícil. Para muchos espectadores ésta es la cinta definitiva del mundo aborigen australiano. MOTHER Dir. Joon-ho Bong No hay amor como el amor de mamá; Bong lo sabe y trata de plasmarlo. Mejor conocido por la taquillera película de monstruos The Host, los lazos y la lealtad familiar son dos de sus temas recurrentes y si en su último film vimos a toda una familia peleando contra un gigantesco monstruo, ahora es el turno de de una viuda luchando en solitario para probar la inocencia de su hijo con problemas mentales cuando es acusado de un brutal asesinato en la Corea rural. Las actuaciones de la respetada actriz Kim Hye-ja Kim, así como de Bin Won y Ku Jin (Gidam 2007) son su mejor atractivo.

IN COMPETITION The White Ribbon Dir. Michael Haneke Without a doubt the absolute winner of the 2009 festival. Haneke’s film not only won the Palme d’Or, but also took the critics’ pick and public recognition. A beautiful black and white story of a small pre-WWI German village, the horrific events that take place in it and the despicable behaviour by its habitants as a consequence. But which came first? Is it their nature to cause horror? A definite must-see. A Prophet Dir. Jacques Audiard One of the best surprises of the festival and a favourite since its opening night to get the Palme d’Or. A Prophet takes us into the dark and cruel prison system, where the weak do not survive the strong, and a young criminal played by Tahar Rahim, also a big competitor for best actor, has to learn the game. Audiard’s film is realistic and a genuine piece of art.

Bright Star The only women ever to win the Palm d’Or at Cannes (The Piano, 1993) comes back with this love story between the poet John Keats and his last love Fanny Brawne. For many this is without the usual Campion passion, but it remains aesthetically beautiful and strictly correct in its development. A movie that cannot be missed by lovers of Keats, poetry or period film. Fish Tank Dir. Andrea Arnold As mentioned by Jane Campion herself, not many women go all the way at Cannes. But this year we are glad to say that quantity does not equal quality. Arnold’s brilliant, real and naked portrait of a teenage girl from the Essex working class presents us with a cruel and raw story of today’s women. Newcomer Katie Jarvis was also a favourite to win best actress with her role as Mia Williams.

Intermediar / Police Adjective Dir. Corneliu Porumboiu Romanian cinema has been hot for a few years now. This latest film by Corneliu Porumboiu, who won the Camera d’Or for 12:08 East of Bucharest in 2006, is probably a direct result of the movement, but without the same appreciation from critics. Besides that, Porumboiu’ s Rumanian style cops movie is rich in storytelling and gets our continuous attention, even though a lot of the time it seems like nothing its happening. Switching action for observation and the usual cursing with witty and natural dialogue, this is another good example from the new Romanian film school. Looking for Eric Dir. Ken Loach Yet another critics’ favourite from this year’s official selection. Legendary football player Eric Cantona has a role playing himself in the movie and part of its success is it will always be a mystery, like the fact that Loach, usually more focused on social dramas, has chosen the script of a romantic comedy. In any case, soccer and good movie lovers can equally enjoy this as a moving, funny and heart-warming tale about love, “big balls” and inner heroes helping us out in moments of need. 62

UN CERTAIN REGARD FILMS Precious / Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire Dir. Lee Daniels The most unusual list of names with the most surprising good results came from this American production. Samsung and Delilah Dir. Warwick Thornton A beautiful portrayal of a very common subject (teenage love) in a very uncommon way, based in a little known environment: an Australian aboriginal community. Full of silences and music, the big landscapes hold a bigger love story. Samsung and Delilah have everything against them, as if teenage love wasn’t hard enough. For many this is the definitive movie about aborigine Australia. MOTHER Dir. Joon-ho Bong There is no love like a mother’s love, Bong knows it and tries to portray it. Best known for his hit monster movie The Host, family bonds and loyalty are among his most recurrent themes and whereas last time you witnessed a whole family fighting a horrifying monster, now it is the turn of a single, mature woman, fighting to prove the innocence of her son following a brutal murder in rural Korea. The performances of legendary Korean actresses Kim Hye-ja, Do-jun and Jin Gu are the main attraction.
