midnight juggernauts According to the Midnight Juggernauts, their absence from the music scene for the last two years has been due to their "stint in hiding, lost in a Himalayan monkey temple while meditating through random ice caves"... Fast forward to 2013 and the Juggs are back! This year, the boys are set to perform as our headlining act for UTS O'Fest with an exciting experimental set that is set to blow the Glasshouse roof off. Currently based in the studio and getting set to release their third album, the Midnight Juggernauts are putting together a show that will involve "trialing some new tunes and playing some old favourites to get the O'Fest crowd pumping!" Check them out on the Main Stage, and get ready to get thrown "Into the Galaxy"!

hermitude After a super successful year in 2012 from the release of their fourth album HyperParadise, hip hop duo Luke 'Dubs' Dubber and Angus 'Elgusto' Stuart will be bringing their best show yet to UTS O'Fest! The 2012 J Award and AIR Award recipients have remained humble after their success, comparing the moment that they found out they won the AIR Award for Best Independent Dance / Electronica album to being "punched in the gut!" said Elgusto. With a new album coming out in 2013 the boys are planning to "smash the living sh*t outta UTS" so make sure you check out their set!

van she Formed in 2002 over a shared love of French House and 80s sounds, Van She comes to UTS bringing their electro beats and 80's inspired set in a show that is celebrating the Back to the Future in 1988 style! Having toured across the globe from Columbia to Japan and back to the uni-scene in Sydney the boys talk of their love of playing to a uni crowd, "We love seeing everyone jumping up and down and going all crazy!" said Nicky Routledge. Being an 80s inspired act, their festival fashion tips include; "Scrunchies, Spandex and High Tops! We're encouraging all girls to wear spandex...it's a personal favourite of ours," commented Nicky. So gear up and check them out on the Main Stage Van She is taking us back to the future!

parachute youth Recent arrivals to the Australian music scene, Parachute Youth will be joining us at UTS O'Fest on the back of The Presets 2013 Australian Tour! Ex-UTS Graduate Matt K Von met his Parachute Youth partner Johnny Castro one night in a bar in Adelaide. The pair say of their first meeting that although "nothing happened", they felt that it "Can't Get Better Than This" and PY was born. Having spent the majority of 2012 touring the Australian and New Zealand festival scene the boys are looking forward to doing their second ever uni gig at UTS, "Watch out UTS! We're Parachute Youth and we're coming for you!"

Living
Harmoniously at UTS
In 2013 UTS will host its inaugural celebration of Harmony Week to commemorate diversity and respect on campus. The concept was born from Harmony Day, hosted by the Australian Department of Immigration & Citizenship on Thursday 21 March, and has since grown into a full week of celebration, events and activities happening on and around the UTS campus. The key message for Harmony Day 2013 is ‘Everyone Belongs’ so to showcase this, UTS will be promoting ‘RESPECT’ on campus through a variety of educational and informative events hosted throughout the week. The event itself is a collaboration between UTS, UTS Union and the City of Sydney, where UTS will be showcasing the ways in which ‘RESPECT’ is already evident on the campus. “We’re looking forward to putting together a really collaborative event that everyone can get involved in and demonstrate RESPECT on campus” stated UTS Union Events Manager, Laura Earl. The highlight of the week-long event will be the Alumni Green screening of ‘Half the Sky’, a documentary about
turning oppression into opportunity for women around the world. “We have secured the only screening of 'Half the Sky' in Australia so far, thanks to Project Futures CEO & UTS Staff member Stephanie Lorenzo,” mentioned Earl. Other major events throughout the week include the launch of the Union’s 4D Series, starting with a feature on Australian History and the Interfaith Day celebration. “It’s a jam packed program so if you’re interested in being involved in any way make sure you speak to the Union Info Desk!” said Earl. Stay tuned for more info about the event on the UTS Union website [www.utsunion.com.au].

UT S Iranian Society What our club is all about: UTS Iranian Society (UIS) was created to get Iranians together at UTS, irrespective of their political and religious points of view. Our objectives are to promote, develop and extend student fellowship within the University. UIS also aims to promote Persian art and culture, and to introduce and share traditions, celebrations and customs. Last but not least; UIS aims to promote recreational, social and academic activities that create a support structure to assist newly arrived students.
Club of the
Month
best thing about the club: UIS runs a wide range of activities, bringing more colours to students’ lives.
quirky fact: UTS Iranian Society is a fast growing club with strong support from its members, resulting in winning the title of UTS Union's “Club of the Year 2012”, just after two years of establishment.
When we meet: At least two events per week including social, sport or recreational activities.
social events: Two major cultural events: “YALDA” (longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere) and “NOWRUZ” (Persian New Year celebration). Also various events such as semester BBQ parties, fortnightly movie nights, weekly futsal and badminton.
one word to describe our members: Supportive.
Why people would want to join UIS provides members with the opportunity to meet new friends and socialise through cultural celebrations and semester parties, to organise regular sport activities, to run a variety of activities on and off campus, access to education services with the affordable price through the “Short Course” scheme, and discounted vouchers for recreational activities such as cinemas, concerts tickets and more!
join us: New members can join us by paying a $5 annual membership. Please contact us on Facebook: [www.facebook.com/groups/UTSIranians] or please email: [utsiranians@gmail.com]
