This year UTS has decided to take it up a notch with three major clubs; EngSoc, DeUTSch & BrewTS hosting the event! "This year we wanted to do something bigger and better than ever before by making it an all day and night event," said DeUTSch president Josh Harris. "We've planned lots of activities for alumni green throughout the day including a bier tasting tent, German bakery featuring schnappsflavour cupcakes and pretzels, a giant obstacle course and German sumo wrestling!" said Harris. Attempting to follow on from the success seen at UNSW's Oktoberfest in past years the clubs have tried to put together a festival that is both exciting and appealing to all students. "After the events on alumni green conclude, the UTS Tower food court & Glasshouse Bar will be transformed into a traditional German Bier hall! There will be schnitzels, sauerkraut and plenty of steins!" commented EngSoc president Matina Lianos.
Topping off the evening will be the Oktoberfest music festival taking place in the Glasshouse and Loft Bars. Similar to the O'Fest events held earlier this year there will be performances being held on both stages with the opportunity to party Oktoberfest style to the traditional Oompah-pah band or rock out to Aussie act Northeast Party House. "We will be awarding prizes to the best dressed participants so make sure you're dressed in your lederhosen," said Harris. With a promise of the biggest and best UTS Oktoberfest to date make sure you purchase your ticket now to avoid missing out! Tickets can be purchased from the Union Info Desk on level 3 of the UTS Tower building. For updates on the event check out www.facebook.com/oktoberestuts

Geering up for Oktoberfest... hottest party tips
WIth UTS oktoberfest right around the corner, Playground was not at all surprised to bump into some preemptive party-goers at the Loft! They looked like they knew what they were doing, So be sure to put their valuable tips into practice come 4 october celebrations... it's going to be HUGE!
The time has finally come to shed those winter warmer kilos, lather yourself in your favourite brand of fake tan and head to the beach. These first few months of Spring can be seen as the 'good grace period' where beach-goers walk around a little too white and a little rough around the edges while making the transition from winter to summer. However, once November hits that's all out the window and the sight of your tanned, toned body on the beach is as welcome as the return of MJ! If you do happen to fall into the trap of leaving things a little too late, aka starting your tanning and training in November you better get a moveon quick smart before you risk committing social suicide next time you saunter or most likely stomp onto the beach. To help you with the transition we have complied a 'How To' guide on the best way of shaping up for summer on a students budget!
Skipping Remember jump rope of heart from primary school? Well skipping burns almost the same amount of calories as going for a run and it's more fun! You can buy a rope for under $10 from amy of the big stores; Target, KMart and Big W.
Stairs Ok so not the most enjoyable form of exercise around but a great way to tone your abs and thighs! Try running up taking each stair at a time, then try going two at a time, then if you're up for the challenge trying jumping stair by stair all the way to the top.
Sit-ups Another free form of exercise that can turn your stomach from flabs to abs with a little bit of attention. Any form of abdominal exercise is always most beneficial if some after light exercise so make skip, do stairs and then finish with abs! If you do have some cash to splash and are really committed to looking your best this summer then head on over to the UTS Fitness Centre and one of their personal trainers will be able to build you a personalised program to suit your needs and get you beach ready!

Fillies One word… PEPLUM. Tops, skirts and dresses with a frilly flare are the rage for the spring racing fashionista. But remember, like fluro and colour blocking, it’s a fad that won’t last, so choose wisely! - Embrace your curves! Smart, tailored lines that classically flaunt your cleavage or flatter your derrière are what its all about. But you’re a classy lady, so keep it elegant. Thanks Beyonce!
If you have a partner, be sure to complement

When it comes headwear, go for style rather than novelty. Trilbies, fedoras and homburgs are all a good bet. "What's a homburg?" we hear you asking... well, Al Pacino wore one in the film The Godfather. Say. No. More.
away with a lot of crazy outfits at the races, but by keeping it simple you can don that daring dapper that is forgotten until the races; the fascinator. Go as over the top as you please with your fascinator, but be sure to team it to the rest of your outfit... you don’t want to end up on a ‘worst dressed list’ for having a Princess Beatrice type headdress!
As we mentioned in an earlier edition of PLAYGROUND fashion, NO VISIBLE UNDERWEAR! That goes for the bottom or the top. We don’t care for excuses, we just don’t want to see it! No lines. No elastic. No straps. And certainly NO G-bangers popping up at the top of a skit or pants! And while we’re talking modesty, only flaunt one asset. And by that, we DON’T mean your tooshie. Keep your racing frock near your knee. It’s OK to wear black to the races. But your friends here at PLAYGROUND want to you to stand out amongst the crowd! Add some pop colour! Why not add bright blue nails to contrast your bright pink lippy, and instead of a black bag, make it yellow! A splash of colour never hurt anyone!
their outfit by choosing similar colours or patterns that work well together. The trick here is to pull this off without looking like twins!
If you are feeling brave, bold colours and clashing prints are big this season, so try out this look with a eye-poppingly bright floral tie or pocket hanky.
