Welcome To

UTS Sport Hi Everyone,

Firstly I would like to extend a big welcome to all first year students to UTS on behalf of UTS Sport, we look forward to getting you involved in a number of event/teams.clubs we have on offer. From sports clubs, uni games, weekend trips, to a lazy Sunday sail around Sydney Harbour on our yacht. We have a whole lot to offer and these E-Updates will make sure you don’t miss out! To everyone back for another year at UTS we hope you enjoyed your extended break and are pumped and excited to build on our success of 2015... UNIVERSITY GAMES

I’m sure most of you have now probably heard about Uni Games but just in case you haven’t… Uni Games is a week away with a team of UTS peers competing in a round robin tournament against the other uni’s from across Australia to be crowned champion. At night there are themed parties where you can let your hair down and meet other students from across Australia. The games are an amazing experience where you will make a bunch of new friends and make lasting memories of your time at UTS. There are a number of options for Uni Games that will be explained below:


1.1

Eastern University Games

Wollongong 3rd-7th July $460 includes sports rego, social pass, accommodation, team hoodie. These games are where all NSW & ACT universities and some other educational institutes compete in 18 sports over 4 days of competition. To get involved you will need to attend trials, these trials are underway now so don’t miss out and jump onto the event via the link below: https://www.facebook.com/events/194443604232061/ On the page you will find the contact details for all the sports specific managers and links to their trials. All you then have to do is trial.

Snow Uni Games

In 2016 our UTS Ski & Board Club will be taking 35 of our best downhill and freestyle skiers and snowboarders to Mt Buller for the Snow Uni Games. Just like EUGs and AUGs but on snow, it’s an amazing week away not to be missed! If you are a skier or snowboarder keen to get involved keep an eye on the clubs Facebook page for an info session that will be announced shortly. AUC Surfing Championships

Shortboard, Longboard, Bodyboard, Road Trip. If you enjoy spending your spare time down by the beach or at your favourite break and looking to try your hand in competition or maybe you have past experience and wanting to get back into it. The AUC Surfing Champs are the perfect chance to get involved. UTS is looking for keen surfers wanting to represent Team UTS up on the sunshine coast in July. For the past two years the team has placed second and this year we are after the gold! AUC Championships

If you are interested in representing Team UTS but not one for trialling and regular trainings and competitions there are two championship series you can get involved with through UTS and AUS. The Distance Running and Triathlon Championships are series based events offering races in all states across Aust. The uni championships run within public events so anyone can enter with you and competing for UTS offers you some extra benefits for when you race! UTS Sports Clubs

Outside of Uni Games and Team UTS we are proud to boast our 33 sport clubs. With the Summer rounds of competition coming to an end and Winter just getting underway it is not too late to get involved. All our clubs offer a range of teams from social through to elite level so contact a club now to make sure you don’t miss out. UTS Sports Challenge

Throughout the year your will see some light hearted events run by UTS Sport with the aim to break up the monotony of study, assignments, and exams and give students the chance


to have some fun and win some awesome prizes... The first event for 2016 is just around the corner! Get your team of 4 registered and sign up for a day of novelty sport like challenges including: 1. Throwing 2. Kicking 3. Rowing 4. Wheelchair 5. Social Sport

Pretty much every day of the week there is a social competition going on in the Ross Milbourne Sports Hall (Building 4). Our underground court is a great place to waste time between classes and our social sport program is the best way to make new friends. The competitions always fill up fast but you may still be able to get a spot on an individual’s team. Check out the website to see what is


available https://www.activateuts.com.au/SocialSports/Info and then head down to the court and have a chat with manager Sam or one of his staff to see if any spots are still going for this session.$20 gets you regular competition for the whole trimester.

Find My Coach

UTS Sport is very excited to partner up with the team of Find My Coach to offer students the chance to make a few extra $$$ coaching a sport they love. At $50ph it’s a great way to get some extra cash in the pocket. Jump on their website (by clicking the image belwo) to register or come by the sports office to get in touch with the team.
