It wouldn’t be called Key Club International without an International convention! Anaheim, California was the place to be this past July, where Key Club’s annual ICON took place. The convention was full of work and fun, with caucusing for international positions and debating bylaws, all the way to fun dances at night. In the House of Delegates session, among the topics for debate were the dues, which were slightly changed during the convention. Though our district dues remain at $5.50, international dues went from $6.50 to $7.00. During ICON, there was a service activity where every district met with other districts to learn about all the service projects they have been involved in. New Jersey’s highlight project was the Eliminate project, followed by the March of Dimes and contributions with UNICEF.
In the end, the new international board was announced. Maria Pallazolo and Kevin Zhang were elected president and vice-president respectively. Following that were the announcements for international trustees, where Nicole Lema earned a spot, proudly representing the New Jersey District! In sum, the convention was a success with hard work from our LTG’s and district board members all the way to the advisors that organized it. The next ICON was announced to be in Indianapolis for 2015! We hope to see a bunch of new faces there!

2014 Northern Region Regional Training Conferences: Parsippany Hills hosted the Northern RTCs this past Saturday, September 20th! The conference, although only a couple of hours long, was a culmination of decorating sessions after school, at-home decorations from some of our dedicated members, and several snack and soda donations. While going to school early in the morning on Saturday was a struggle, the fun, food, and informational sessions certainly
made it worth it. From the mandatory sessions for each RTC attendee, Key Clubbers were able to learn: the responsibilities as a general member or of their position, ways to improve public speaking, how to engage and gain new club members, and the basics of state events such as District Convention and Fall Rally. Several other sessions focusing on different topics were also offered.

An Introduction to our Website: Over the summer, our chapter webmaster Eva Cavanaugh worked hard to establish our first website: parhillskeyclub.webs.com! Not only is it visually appealing, it also has a lot of useful information. There, you can view your 2013-2014 service hours, visit any of the Key Club International websites, and get updates on future club events. We hope everyone takes a few minutes to check out the website. It’s informative, and pretty amazing.
It’s hard to imagine the time that Eva must have been spent on this website, and we encourage our fellow members to show a similar kind of dedication for Key Club! We interviewed her about the website-creating process and her Key Club experience.
What made you think of establishing a Webmaster position? I knew that many clubs around New Jersey had the position, and it seemed like a great way to share information outside of meetings! I also enjoy technology and putting my organizational skills to the test when creating an easy to navigate website. Key Notes - September 2014 - Volume I Issue IV - Page V
How has your experience been as our first Webmaster? So far, I have had a great experience as our club’s first Webmaster! I was able to attend multiple workshop sessions directed towards the position at DCON and the past fall RTC hosted by our school. I got a new perspective on a position our club was not too familiar with and it was nice to finally have someone representing PHHS at the sessions. It was a little difficult forming the website because I had to start out from scratch, but so far, I have heard great feedback! What are the advantages of having an official PHHS Key Club website? I believe the main advantage is that the club members are able to have easy access to the newsletters, hours, and photos made and taken by the officers. Members are able to check their hours at anytime and can make sure they get credit for everything they do. Also, members are featured in the section where an ‘hours record board’ is displayed...a great way to recognize the hard work done each service year by our Key Clubbers!
What are different ways students can get involved in Key Club? Students can get involved in and out of school. There are activities, like making CSH (Children’s Specialized Hospital) Cards for various holidays, that can be done at home. But there are also events that students can attend, such as the Senior Citizen Dinner. However, my favorite way to get involved is to go to the different events at the New Jersey District level. I can able to get inspired by other clubs for new service projects and meet Key Clubbers that have similar interests as me. Key Notes - September 2014 - Volume I Issue IV - Page VI

Yankee Candle Sales are due 10/15-10/17. PHHS’s Key Club will have it’s 40th anniversary on October 14th! All members going to Fall Rally are encouraged to buy the 40th anniversary shirts.
