Happy 420! This month we celebrate our favorite, cannabis related holiday which originally stemmed from a group of California high school students, back in the 70's who, in search of a lost cannabis crop would meet at 4:20, and is now a celebrated gathering of cannabis consumers worldwide. For our second annual 420 coloring book issue, we have included not only a colorable cover but also eight more interior coloring pages drawn by our friend and cannabis artist, Trog. Be sure to color one of the pages and submit it to us via social media or email. And, watch our social media accounts throughout the month as we give away awesome prizes for the best pictures submitted. Your picture could also be featured in the next issue! This year, the weekend of April 20th plays host to an array of fun events here locally. On April 20th get down to the Thomas and Mack for the 420 Roll It Up show featuring Ice Cube. Looking for something a bit more relaxed, check out the High in the Sky Festival over at the Desert Pines Golf Club. How about bowling? The Big Lebongski bowling event is also set for 4/20 and the proceeds from this event will be donated to one of our local veteran's groups. Working in the cannabis industry? On April 21st, head over to Blue Martini at Town Square for their Cannabis Industry Appreciation Party which will feature live entertainment and free appetizers from 8pm until 10pm. And, at the end of the month, don't miss Kaya Fest with the Marleys out in San Bernardino, California. Have an awesome month and have fun coloring!

BigMike In an increasingly pro-marijuana world, canna-celebrities are cropping up like weeds. The changing tide of cultural acceptance and legalization has made it easier than ever to build a cannabisbased brand without fear of being stigmatized socially and penalized legally. But among this new generation of cannabis personalities stand a few giants — marijuana OGs who paved the way for the new breed and went all in on cannabis, long before it was as socially acceptable and as legally permissible as it is today. BigMike Straumietis is one of those legends. A grower since 1983, BigMike has spent his entire adult life in the pursuit of cannabis cultivation perfection. His life story reads like a movie script straight out of Hollywood — one that includes alternate identities, federal manhunts, border crossings, biker gangs, busts and seizures, kidnappings, and millions of marijuana plants. Through it all, BigMike has been able to build the biggest cannabis nutrients company in the world and establish himself as one of the most legitimate, credentialed figures in the industry. He founded his company Advanced Nutrients in 1999; today, its products are sold in 100 countries around the world and its annual revenues are over $105 million and growing. He was recently recognized as one of the top 100 cannabis industry influencers by High Times. And he’s launching BigMike’s Blends, his own line of ultra-premium, outcome-based pre-rolls.

18

Now, BigMike’s gearing up for his latest venture: A cannabis-centric competition show called The Next Marijuana Millionaire™, in which 16 contestants compete in entrepreneurthemed challenges for a chance to win

$1,000,000 worth of cash and prizes. The winner will also get to be partners in a business venture with BigMike himself. We caught up with BigMike to talk about his storied past, his current endeavors, and the future of the industry at large. VCM: How did you get the nickname BigMike?

BIGMIKE: I’ve actually lived under several different aliases over the years, because as we all know, growing cannabis hasn’t always been legal like it is today. My friends started calling me BigMike several years ago, mostly because I’m 6’7” tall, but also because my last name is infamously hard to pronounce. VCM: What prompted you to start Advanced Nutrients? BIGMIKE: I’ve been growing since 1983. Over the years, I’ve used just about every type of nutrient product out there and experimented and fine-tuned my growing processes. And I’ve grown some really good weed. But in the back of my mind, I always knew that it could be better. In the late ’90s, I was living in British Columbia, running several high-value grow ops. It was then that I decided to try my hand at formulating my own nutrients. And they worked. At first, I was only producing enough for me and a few of my closest grower friends to use. But they were so blown away by the quality of these nutrients and the crops they yielded that they urged me to start a nutrient company. And the rest is history. VCM: You are quickly becoming the cannabis king of Instagram. Do the risks of being so outspoken ever outweigh the benefit of promoting yourself and your

companies? BIGMIKE: Absolutely not. First of all, things have changed so much over the past few years that the risk factor nowadays is nothing compared to what it was over the first 30 years of my growing career. Back then, I faced the possibility of years in federal prison. Second, I don’t promote myself and my products strictly for the purpose of profit. I consider myself a cannabis advocate and educator, and I view my social media presence as an opportunity to keep pushing cannabis acceptance and normalization forward. My life’s mission is to bring as much healing to humanity as I can through cannabis. And if that means promoting healthy, responsible cannabis use through my Instagram page, then the reward far outweighs any perceived risk. VCM: What can we expect to see from your new line of cannabis products? And do you plan on bringing them to Vegas? BIGMIKE: You can expect to see the same industry-leading quality that you’ve seen in Advanced Nutrients products. The first product we’re launching is BigMike’s Blends, which are ultrapremium, outcome-based pre-rolls. These blends are made from the highest quality, most pristine and pure cannabis available. I’ve put $30 million into expanding and upgrading my research lab, and hired MIT and Harvard Ph.D.’s to

lead R & D. The end result is seven blends, each designed to deliver a specific effect.

will have no choice but to legalize. There’s just too much at stake for them not to.

I do plan on bringing these products to Vegas and to all legal states.

VCM: Do you consume cannabis recreationally, medically or both?

VCM: You are launching a reality show called The Next Marijuana Millionaire™, what type of contestants are you looking for? And will the winner work alongside you?

BIGMIKE: I believe everyone who consumes cannabis is a patient. For me, it’s a part of everyday life. Medically speaking, it does relieve ocular pressure that I experience as a result of three eye surgeries as well as anxiety and OCD tendencies. But I also use cannabis to get my creative juices flowing when I’m brainstorming new ideas or working through business challenges, and to help get me in a festive mood when it’s time to party. To me, those aren’t necessarily “recreational” uses — they’re more like lifeoptimizing uses.

BIGMIKE: I’m looking for passionate, hard-working, driven individuals who have the talent and tenacity to successfully launch a cannabis business venture and become my business partner in their brand. From the initial pool of applicants, we’ll choose 16 contestants to compete for the grand prize. Those 16 will be the ones who can demonstrate personality, charisma, passion and, of course, an original and awesome cannabis business idea within a one-minute video presentation. It’s definitely going to be a challenge! The winner will get to be my business partner in their cannabis venture. VCM: What are your thoughts on full legalization? Do you think it will ever happen? BIGMIKE: I absolutely believe it will happen. At this point, it’s just a matter of time. How much time, I’m not quite sure — but I think we’ll see changes at the federal level sooner rather than later. I predict that when we hit 30 states, the federal government

VCM: Favorite strain? BIGMIKE: That’s easy… I've turned them into BigMike’s Blends. You’ll be able to get them from your local dispensary soon to try for yourself. VCM: Any final words? BIGMIKE: I’m just thrilled that after a 35-year career, the industry that I know and love is finally being legitimized. Cannabis has so much to offer us, and I feel like I have so much more to offer the world of cannabis. I just can’t wait to watch the future unfold and to continue to do my part in spreading the healing power of cannabis across the globe.

BY MITCHELL S. BISSON, ESQ

MANAGING ATTORNEY, CALLISTER LAW GROUP

The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers

I want to start out the eighth edition of the Cannab-Esq. Chronicles by wishing everybody a very happy and high 420! I hope you’re celebrating with your favorite cannabis concoction while reading this 420 edition of Vegas Cannabis Magazine whether it be an edible infused with some top-shelf Evergreen Organix Coconut Oil, some sparkling golden Kabunky Fruit Salad shatter, or an eighth of some sticky Medizin Skywalker OG flower! Wherever you are and whatever you choose to do to celebrate, please remember, consumption and possession of any amount of cannabis is still illegal under federal law, and NEVER consume and get behind the wheel – it’s not worth it. There is much to be thankful for in the cannabis industry here in Nevada – like the fact that medical and recreational marijuana sales continue to exceed expectations! Nevada dispensaries generated $35.8 Million and $32.8 Million in marijuana sales in December 2017 and January 2018, respectively. These numbers are truly enormous. Take a moment to step back and really appreciate how far this industry has come. There are approximately 48 dispensaries in southern Nevada alone. Not only is there always somewhere to go to legally purchase cannabis, there are so many products on the shelves, it can be quite overwhelming for anyone making their first trip to the dispensary. Luckily the budtenders typically know their shit and are able to ease any newbie anxiety. The Nevada cannabis industry is thriving, and that is great news! After the “early start” program for recreational marijuana sales was a massive success, the State of Nevada has now ironed-out regulations and is beginning to hand out permanent marijuana establishment licenses to the dispensaries and other businesses that participated. Nevada is also releasing 66 new licenses into the “Royal Rumble” arena of anxious entrepreneurs looking to plant their cannabis flag here. There was an early battle by some outsiders who argued that Nevada’s proposed regulations unfairly favored those already holding dispensary licenses, but the Nevada Department of Taxation rejected the argument and voted unanimously to codifying the regulations anyways. The regulations were approved by the Nevada Legislative Commission in March and as of writing this, are currently being implemented. One noteworthy addition to the regulations is the allowance for home delivery of recreational marijuana. Yes, you read that right – now you don’t even have to fight traffic and/or a crowd at the dispensary! However, according to the regulations, delivery can only be to a private residence, so don’t get too ambitious and start game planning to re-up at work! We have not come that far yet! While home delivery has been available for medical patients for quite some time, it is now available for the masses to take advantage of.

22

What doesn’t make an appearance in the new regulations is anything related to cannabis smoking lounges. While this is not all that surprising, it is frustrating to see nothing being done. Toward the end of 2017, City of Las Vegas and Clark County officials postponed discussions of licensing cannabis smoking lounges, citing fears of crackdowns by the federal government. United States Attorney General Jeff “Smoke” Session’s subsequent rescission of the Cole Memorandum and his overall antimarijuana attitude has obviously stalled matters even further. At this point, the idea of smoking lounges in Nevada isn’t expected to be seriously discussed again until state legislators meet in 2019. While Nevada is utilizing the “wait and see” approach, the city of Denver has charged forward and has authorized the first consumption lounge wherein patrons can legally consume marijuana. Although acceptable consumption methods is limited to eating, vaping, and dabbing (i.e., no smoking), people who may not have a private residence in Denver now have a place to relax and consume without the threat of being arrested or cited. This is a major step in the right direction for the cannabis movement, and I will be keeping a watchful eye on how things play out in Denver! Although we have yet to resolve the ultimate problem affecting the Las Vegas cannabis tourism industry - that tourists and visitors have no legal place to consume the marijuana we heavily advertise and market - at least we have given them something to do with the cannabis once they get ready to go home. In February, “amnesty boxes” were installed outside McCarran Airport and the other airports around the valley for travelers to use to dispose of their marijuana (and other drugs) before going through airport security. As a reminder, although marijuana possession is generally legal in Nevada, it is still a crime to possess any amount of marijuana on airport property. Thus, the point of the “amnesty boxes!” The real question though, is who gets the exciting job of cleaning those amnesty boxes out at the end of the day?! I happen to know many people who would do that task for free… in fact, I may even know a few who would pay for the ability to scrounge through some leftovers of the finest cannabis products Vegas has to offer! The State of Nevada and Department of Taxation have finally put forth permanent regulations to help administer and enforce the laws related to the sale and use of recreational marijuana in Nevada. And locally, the Las Vegas cannabis industry has continued to thrive and position itself to becoming the pinnacle of cannabis tourism in the United States. Let’s keep up the momentum! Happy 420 and #StayWoke! Follow me: Instagram @Cannab_Esq Facebook @MitchellSBissonEsq

How I Replaced Zoloft and Wellbutrin with CBD

>>> MY JOURNEY TO TREAT CHRONIC DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY WITH CBD ALONE BD is one of over 100 cannabinoids that have been isolated and identified by scientists. In recent years CBD has gained widespread notoriety for its ability to treat a plethora of lifelong chronic illness and disease. Some facts about CBD.

CBD is completely non-psychoactive, meaning it won’t get you high. CBD is non-addictive, has minimal side effects, and can be used safely by children, adults, and animals. CBD can treat schizophrenia, post traumatic stress, epileptic disorders, depression, anxiety, cancer, osteoporosis, nausea, lupus, OCD, Parkinson’s disease, acute and chronic pain, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative disorders, psychosis and so much more.

A Brief History of my Crazy I was “officially” diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder at age 24, but I have lived with those issues since my early teens. It wasn’t until I had my first child that I sought professional help to deal with my intense postpartum depression, and that was when I was first put on Zoloft and Wellbutrin. That was 11 years ago, and I have been on them ever since. Those medications helped me significantly but neither were able to fully combat depressive episodes. While I experienced these episodes less frequently, they still occurred, and when they did I felt powerless to be the mother I am capable of being and that my children deserve. When I finally re-discovered cannabis in my adult years, I saw that by adding it to my routine, I could live without the depressive episodes I had dealt with since puberty. So life-changing was that discovery for me, that I launched my website and started calling myself The Stoner Mom, to help spread the word of responsible and mindful cannabis use and to praise the effect that the combination of Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and cannabis had on my mental health. Since I finally felt mentally “right” for the first time in my life, I didn’t really ponder a future where I would want to go off my meds at all. But the years go by, we get older and better informed, and by early 2017 I had become disillusioned with being on both medications. I

had found that I felt better on cannabis than on anything else, and so with my doctors approval and my husband’s support, I decided to responsibly attempt to go off both Zoloft and Wellbutrin.

How I Prepared In early 2017 I visited my doctor for guidance on getting off SSRI’s. She suggested we start with Zoloft, and over the next several months she steadily lowered my dose. During this time I continued taking Wellbutrin and using cannabis daily, in addition to my now much lower dose of Zoloft. Thankfully I didn’t experience any withdrawals or weird side effects during this time. By November 2017 I quit taking Zoloft and began the process of lowering my dose of Wellbutrin in the same way I had begun with Zoloft. This is when I added CBD to my daily routine, starting with low doses of various sublingual oils that were sent to me from different companies. Finally, in January 2018, I stopped taking my Wellbutrin altogether, and buckled in for some gnarly withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawals — Exhaustion, Depression, Anxiety, and Brain Zaps The first 8 weeks off of my SSRI’s were rough. I experienced a major resurgence of anxiety, which I had always considered the lesser of my two disorders. These anxiety attacks were awful and often led to a full-blown depressive episode. I started sleeping more, feeling chronically fatigued and unfocused, and would often find my eyes welling up with tears as an intense sense of despair took over me. I also experienced tons of brain zaps, arguably the worst part about going off SSRI’s. The term “Brain Zaps” refers to the very common electrical shock and brain buzzing sensation that is attributed to SSRI withdrawal. These were nothing new to me, as I had experienced them every time I missed a dose of Zoloft over the last eleven years. But these brain zaps were near continuous, occurring every time I moved my eyes, and were extremely uncomfortable. Brain zaps are especially tortuous while driving, and they contribute to an overall sense of mental fog, confusion, and fatigue. They continued for weeks. I felt very disorganized and unfocused during this time and lacked the motivation to do all but the most basic tasks. I spent my depleted energy on being a mom and had little strength to do much else other than wait for the day when these feelings would finally end. I used cannabis and CBD to combat the physical and mental symptoms of withdrawal, but it was still very difficult. I often have a hard time medicating myself with anything while in a depressive state, regardless of how aware I am of my condition, so I am very fortunate to have had my husband there to remind/demand that I take my CBD daily.

A Fog Lifted — How CBD Makes Me Feel Somewhere in the second month of being off the pills I began feeling better. It was very gradual and I didn’t even realize I was returning to my old self for at least a week after feeling better. One day it just dawned on me that I couldn’t remember the last time I experienced a brain zap. On another day I realized I hadn’t had night sweats since I quit SSRI’s.

With the withdrawal phase over, I began to really feel the effects of CBD in my endocannabinoid system. The mental fog that had been blinding me from seeing positively began to lift and my old selfdiscipline and happy attitude returned. I no longer experience anxiety attacks and my depressive episodes have ceased. Better still, I feel very aware of my emotions and mental state, as opposed to feeling “separated” from my emotions like I did when on SSRI’s. CBD doesn’t make me feel “drugged” in any way, in fact, the best way I can describe its effect on me is that when I use CBD regularly I notice a distinct lack of symptoms of depression and anxiety. I also smoke significantly less weed now, a side effect I certainly did not expect from beginning CBD therapy. In the past I have used cannabis as-needed to pull me out of a slump, but with plenty of CBD in my system I no longer find daily cannabis use necessary for maintaining optimal mental health. This has done wonders for my cannabis tolerance, making me able to enjoy the psychoactive effects of THC in a way that I haven’t since I first started smoking cannabis.

My CBD Routine I take 100 mg of CBD on most days, usually in the late morning. CBD is non-addictive and there are no withdrawals, so I feel less anxious about missing a day or two here and there. I primarily use a CBD oil sublingually, as that is the quickest and most effective method for absorbing CBD. Sublingual means you apply the oil under your tongue and hold there for a few minutes, allowing it to absorb. Occasionally I switch up my routine by taking CBD capsules or vaporizing pure CBD isolate in a vape pen or dab rig. During the two weeks before my period I am diligent about taking CBD. My depression has long been triggered by my monthly cycle, and so I’ve learned to over-treat myself during those times when I’m especially vulnerable. This is when I’ll add an additional capsule to my standard dose, vape CBD during the day, or just add another sublingual dose to my regular amount. You cannot overdose on CBD. CBD is readily available online and there are many trusted companies offering a wide range of products (check out www.thestonermom.com for brand recommendations). The tincture I use daily is from Medterra CBD as its tasteless oil is the easiest for me to consume. I also really like CBDistillery’s line of products, especially their pure CBD isolate slabs.

A Final Note Quitting SSRI’s cold turkey is never recommended and in fact can be quite dangerous, so be sure to consult your trusted physician and make a plan together. It may take a long time to go off medications. Acclimating my mind and body to lower doses and eventually zero meds took about a year. The time investment was totally worth it however, since CBD treats my symptoms far more effectively than SSRI’s ever did, and now I’m not adding addictive and habit-forming medications to my already complicated-enough body. CBD has greatly enhanced my mental health, and there is a mountain of evidence that shows it has huge potential to help those with depression or anxiety, in addition to the large list of chronic conditions that it can treat. Of course, we are all complex and unique, so be sure to do your own research before you start your CBD therapy, and as always, I wish you the very best on your personal cannabis journey.

GROWTH OF LEGAL CANNABIS >>> SALES WORLDWIDE

N

By: Dr. Aseem Sappal

evada started 2018 with a bang! As of February, adult-use cannabis sales had reached $195 million since the market launched in July. That represents sales of $1 million per day! Nevada is in good company. Washington State hit $478 million in sales and Colorado made $581 million in sales over approximately same time period. And, each year U.S. cannabis sales continue to grow. In 2016, U.S. adult-use and medicinal cannabis sales hit $4.5 billion and reached nearly $9 billion in 2017 (North America sales were $9.2 billion in 2017). Arcview Market Research estimates, the legal cannabis industry could reach $47.3 billion in North America and $57 billion worldwide by 2027.

AMERICA’s FIRST CANNABIS COLLEGE NOW ONLINE

Why would North America be estimated to sell 83% of the world’s cannabis? A significant percentage of the pie is from U.S. industry growth, but Canada, where medicinal cannabis has been legal since 2001, is moving to legalize adult-use cannabis at the federal level and is attracting business investors-nearly $13 billion is expected to be available by the end of 2018. To our south, Mexico has legalized medical cannabis and the sale of cannabis-based products is allowed, with regulations to be released soon. Like in the U.S. where cannabis is regulated by each state, the legality of cannabis varies from country to country. Uruguay and the Netherlands are the most progressive regarding cannabis consumption. Medicinal cannabis is legal in Jamaica, Germany, Peru, Switzerland, Colombia, Denmark, Croatia, Chile, Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Puerto Rico, Macedonia, Poland, Australia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, San Marino, Turkey, and Zambia. Many countries are light on marijuana enforcement, but some are very strict. For instance, in Japan cannabis use and possession are punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine; cultivation, sale and transport are punishable by up to 7 to 10 years imprisonment and a fine. There’s recent good news on the international front. One of the most innovative approaches to legalizing medical cannabis comes out of Germany, where residents under Germany’s statutory health insurance system will have access to MMJ coverage as part of their medical plan. Many in Germany predict that adult-use cannabis will be legalized in the near future too. And, Lesotho is on its way to being the first African country to become a supplier of medical cannabis to other African countries including Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland that are currently considering medical cannabis laws. Cannabis is illegal throughout most of Africa, so this is an important first step. A word of caution: Cannabis is still illegal federally in the U.S. and worldwide adult-use cannabis sales are likely to remain hindered by the United Nations and its 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. THE FOOD WHISPERER

A

t first glance he appears slight of build. It’s while standing in front of him, one notices the chiseled cuts and protruding mounds of muscle running the length of both tattooed arms. These attributes insinuate his physique is like that of an illustrated Super Hero. His dark eyes are intense but not off putting. If you look deeply, you will see he is beyond his years – an old soul. A man of few words; words he chooses carefully and with forethought. Yet, he’s quick to laugh, hence his readiness to join in the shenanigans and pranks common in every commercial kitchen. Those who know him have learned, beneath the sheen of aloofness there resides a mature perspective and self-awareness that prevents him from taking himself or others, too seriously. However, if you are the type who is quick to make assertions within the first few moments of meeting someone, you are likely to overlook or even dismiss the potential and ultimate pleasure of truly knowing him. Those of us who have taken the time to build and secure a foundation of friendship with Chef Darius, declare ourselves among the fortunate. His smile can charm and disarm the grumpiest of customers and the most trying of staff. Only once have I seen him angry. But even his anger is quiet, deep and penetrating. Though rare, when encountered, his displeasure will cause you to stop dead in your tracks, as I did. It was an otherwise uneventful afternoon at work that day. We were cleaning up after teaching a class when, over the din of dishwashers and clanging plates, we heard; “Can everyone come out here please?” We froze like robotic Stepford Wives. I stopped mid-sentence, turned my head slightly to the side and engaged in some of the most active listening I’ve done since marriage counseling days. One by one we walked out of the dish pit to the front kitchen. In a firm, unwavering tone, Chef was as sharp as a Kamikoto knife telling us he never wanted to see what had happened in his kitchen, again; ever. Chef stood at the counter looking down at the marbled mass of reds and burgundys in watery hues swirled together like a Jackson Pollack piece done on a sheet pan. The putrid scent of blood mixed with raw meat was enough for all present to figure out what had happened. No explanation or excuse would suffice. We stared at the textbook example of cross contamination at its worst. Chef took a deep breath, and before he had time to exhale, I murmured that I would make a run to the butcher to replace the proteins none of us would ever consider cooking or serving. This was not only a rookie mistake but a costly one. Chef was not happy. But it is not his demeanor or character I want to expound; it is his talent as a Chef. He’s among the few who can slide from Savory to Pastry and back again. A feat most of us savory chefs are unable to accomplish without tremendous frustration. Not so with Chef Darius. He flawlessly integrates and merges these two food categories as though they were oil and acid brought together in a harmonious

emulsion. As a savory chef, I am adept at creating combinations of flavors and textures that make the old and familiar look and taste new. I’m clever when it comes to Infusing traditional home-cooking with professional techniques, offering both Infused and Clean meals that provide good taste and pleasure. But ask me to go beyond “locking the butter” in your croissant dough or simmer a combination of butter, sugar and cream for a rich, smooth caramel and you’ll end up getting a scientific lesson in what went wrong and what not to do next time. Besides the two basic categories of Chefs: Savory and Pastry, recent years has seen the emergence of a third category; the Canna-Chef. The Canna-Chef can be either Pastry or Savory, Infusing ingredients, dishes, and even complete meals with food-grade Cannabis, in its many forms. And every Chef, be they Pastry, Savory or Canna approach cooking in one of three ways. The first is more traditional; old school. These chefs adhere to well practiced and clearly defined recipes as they are written. Utilizing time honored methods without much deviation from the foundations described in the most basic of cookbooks. The outcome of each dish or meal is a comforting, if not predictable one. These chefs also make for excellent culinary instructors, as they keep the process simple and direct. The second approach is intuitive. These chefs possess ingrained traits to experiment, adapt and alter most every recipe they encounter. Putting their spin on it by changing the cooking method or substituting one ingredient for another. This brings them great joy, as they are “the only one,” so to speak, who does what they do, in the way they do it. Chefs who approach their craft in this manner are creative and spontaneous, resulting in radically fresh dining experiences. The third approach is a combination of the two; incorporating experience, knowledge, and tradition with a streak of rebellion. Mix that in with a strong desire for the guests at their table to partake of a memorable, multi-sensorial food experience and you get a leader among chefs or capo cuoco, (captain of chefs) as we say in Italian. Their approach is organized, with roots in the classic preparation of food and yet they are able to co-mingle imagination, artistry and professionalism. What distinguishes them from other chefs is their thorough understanding of food. How each ingredient, seasoning, spice, and herb behaves when combined with other ingredients, as well as which cooking method best brings it all together. These chefs intrinsically appreciate how each addition will complement and interact with another, understanding how to bring them together rather than competing. This is what makes for the much sought after and above average cook. That and passion. This is Chef Darius, aka; The Food Whisperer. After observing Chef’s talents, I began to wonder; could he bring his knowledge and passion to the tables of our Canna-Dinners? When I learned of Chef Darius’ passion for food science, I was certain he had to be part of our team. I asked if he would be interested in working

with me and my Canna-chef staff and if, perhaps, he could figure out how to Infuse more unorthodox foods. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to create an Infused Granita, an Infused Sorbet and Meringue. Each attempt ending with either green tinted messes of ice, crystallized chunks of fruit and meringues that never went beyond limp, murky foam. Without hesitation or ego, Chef told me to give him a couple of days, he’d figure it out. With the anticipation felt by awaiting the rising of a soufflé, or a tea kettles whistle, I waited. A few days later, it was with delight, I saw and ate my answers. There has been a unique transmutation occurring each time Chef Darius works with us. A combination of artistry and scientific experimentation, exposing his natural talents to the fullest. He was blooming right before my eyes like sourdough starter that grows and develops, then gives of itself as the source of an ebullient loaf of artisan bread. When observing Chef’s slight of hand, his swift yet deliberate movements, his focused concentration, one sees an aura of aromatic light and colour emerging in the small corner where he chooses to work. Though we are many in the kitchen for these Cannadinner events, Chef Darius maintains a hallowed space of solitude. On one particular evening, I watched entranced, as he coaxed forth the essence of culinary lavender. Encouraging, almost inviting this perfumed herb to delicately dance with the Cannabis-Infused broth he had prepared for the entrée. Chef expertly incorporates and entwines the sweet and the savory with Cannabis. For example, his Infused éclairs au chocolat, those hard to find hollow tubes of pâte à choux are certain to leave you fervently licking your lips and fingertips. He begins by deftly stirring the soft dough with a wooden spoon until the warm, buttery mixture pulls away from the sides of the pot in a glossy, elastic ball. Chef’s sweet pastry cream is consistently smooth and polished; a luxurious rendition. And the glaze; a dark chocolate ganache he produces with ease and grace. Royal Chef, Marie Antonin Carême would beam with pride were he alive to see how exquisitely his creation is handled by Chef Darius, nearly 200 years later. Nor does Chef balk or cringe when asked to prepare baklava, as many of us do. Not a terribly difficult dessert to assemble, but anyone who has worked with phyllo dough, knows the irritation and potential for waste associated with handling such a delicate and finicky product. Technique, technique, technique, is the lesson learned when observing Chef prepare Béarnaise Sauce. One of the more challenging condiments as it is vital one avoids “breaking” the sauce. Chef is sensitive and aware ensuring the egg yolks aren’t cooked into a scramble. And watching Chef prepare Beef Wellington? One feels as though they are witnessing a staged production inside a grand theater. With strong, nimble hands, he massages the tenderloin with French olive oil, followed by a stimulating rub of kosher salt, cracked pepper and dried herbs. This is followed by gently, almost lovingly, tying the tender cut of beef with kitchen twine, so it will “maintain its figure,” as he puts it. He’s practically gleefully as he shmears the beef with an unctuous pâté de fois gras and duxelles. Then, like a surgeon unfettered by sweat or the fatigue of an hours long procedure, Chef

triumphantly wraps the entire fillet in puff pastry, brushes it with an egg wash then bakes it to a crispy, golden brown, showstopper of an entrée. I can almost smell those fleshy fungi melding into the pâté as the Madeira wine bubbles and drips with flavor. The following week, my team of four and I were in yet another unfamiliar kitchen. I went right to work on my Infused homemade pasta dough, ground pork filling and Alfredo sauce. Chef Greg took a page from my book, altering my buttery lemon curd, making it even richer and more citrusy, as he simultaneously tended to an Infused blueberry compote. Kara, who’s utilized by each chef as our own personal assistant, flitted about the kitchen gathering mise en place while assembling her tablescape. Chef Chapman managed his dual role of keeping one eye on me, as a kind of broom and dustpan, translating my directives, while whisking together an Infused homemade mayonnaise with his other eye. Every now and then, I would look up to see Chef Darius pull out some odd looking tool, tip, or tube, even something resembling a miniature aerator. He was focused on the Infused Italian hummus recipe I had provided. I watched as he intuitively balanced the bold taste of fresh garlic with the subtleties of the creamy cannellini beans, adding sprigs of rosemary from our café garden and lemon zest, at precisely the right moment. As his food processor whirled, he casually, and without measurement, added Umbrian olive oil and salt. The end product? A Zen-like paste, where every crisp, snappy crudité basked in glory. What Chef Darius does in the kitchen is a magical expression of the culinary arts. He can only be considered a kind of maestro, as he orchestrates flavors, tastes and methods that exceed expectations. He elevates the food. He is The Food Whisperer.

COSMIC MUFFIN’S RECIPE FOR

Italian Hummus

Ingredients 1 can cannellini beans – rinsed and drained Juice of ½ lemon 3 cloves fresh garlic ¼ cup tahini ¼ cup canna-olive oil + 1 Tablespoon 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt ¼ cup slivered almonds ¼ cup fresh rosemary chopped Process Place cannellini beans, lemon juice, garlic, tahini, ¼ cup of the canna-olive oil and half the chopped rosemary into bowl of food processor. Pulse ingredients until well blended and a smooth paste has formed. If the paste is too thick add a little more canna-olive oil or water to thin. Using a spatula, scoop hummus into individual appetizer bowls or plates. Create a well or mote with the back of a small spoon in the hummus, then drizzle a small amount of the canna-olive oil into the well or motes. Garnish with slivered almonds and remaining rosemary. Serve with warm triangles of pita bread, chips or fresh crudités.

TALES FROM THE CRIP

IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA For many users, medical and/or recreational marijuana is like WD-40, in that it makes things in life slide along much better than they likely would without…well, some lube. Friction burns SUCK, and should be avoided at all costs. Marijuana and its by-products are great for avoiding many of life’s friction burns, but (believe it or don’t) there are actually some experiences that even pot cannot salvage for you.

I consider myself an introverted extrovert, which means that I’m not overly-excited to meet new people, but I try to charm the fuzz off of people who I already know.

For me, the difference between high and not high is like the difference between regular TV and HDTV—I see the same things either way, but being in HD mode enables me to experience…more. That’s great at a concert or a movie, providing that the concert or movie isn’t particularly unsettling; for example, you may not want to imbibe and watch “The Shape of Water” unless green-tinted confusion and black lagoon-inspired lizard-gods don’t freak you out. Unless you are one of those guys who I envy, whose big, fat arm veins are nestled right below the surface of their skin, marijuana will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to improve the experience of having blood drawn. In fact, regarding most medical procedures, the gnarlier the process, the less likely it is that pot will distract you. I have a brain MRI performed every spring, which consists of laying back on a surprisingly uncomfortable rolling table and being fed into the gaping maw of an enormous magnet that exists for no other reason than to freak me out. The process itself is relatively non-invasive, except for the fact that the MRI chamber itself is pretty much shrink-to-fit (or so it seems) and it is FREAKING LOUD in there: “BOOM BOOM BOOM buhduhduhduhduh WOOP WOOP WOOP tick tick tick DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!” Then some tech comes over the intercom and asks me to shut the hell up so they can start the test—radiologists have no sense of humor. Anyway, my point is that there is nothing about the MRI experience that I want enhanced; for that matter I am so PROFOUNDLY claustrophobic that I generally nap though the experience with my good friend Prince Valium, so pot would be pretty much irrelevant anyways.

There are several circumstances besides medical tests which may prove counterintuitive for marijuana enhancement. I consider myself an introverted extrovert, which means that I’m not overly-excited to meet new people, but try to charm the fuzz off of people who I already know. This can make social gatherings interesting, and smoking doesn’t help much. I’m lousy with names to begin with, and the likelihood of me

retaining a new name under green circumstances is close to non-existent—worse yet, unless there was something visually striking about you (an extra nose, perhaps, or bunny ears) I will likely “meet you for the first time” several times throughout the same event. This impresses exactly nobody. Another activity to avoid while influenced is having a serious conversation with pretty much anybody who is not comparably turnt. Of course, if everybody is high, the concept of a “serious conversation” will be more about who best played The Hulk (spoiler alert: it was Lou Ferrigno) than the effect that Reaganomics had on the US economy during the 1980s. No, the serious conversations that I allude to here might include your boss, your kids, your lawyer, your teacher—pretty much anybody who sits in judgement of you. Oh, you think your kids don’t judge you? HA! That’s what kids do—constantly and without remorse. I made the mistake of going on exactly one job interview high. At the time, it seemed like a really good idea: I was nervous, so I wanted to take the edge off. I knew (secondhand, of course) that the hiring manager also smoked weed (we already had so much in common!), so he’d just sense how cool I was and hire me on the spot. Finally, my ace-inthe-hole: my cousin Deke (an even bigger stoner than me) had set the interview up for me. You can probably see where this was going; hell, Stevie Wonder could see how THIS weapons-grade gang-fuck would play out. During the interview, I was relaxed. Very relaxed. So relaxed, in fact, that I may have nodded off during the “Company History” video that began the interview--not a brilliant start. I was then asked one question (the equivalent of “what’s your favorite color?”), which I then spent 30 minutes answering, all the while getting higher and higher and higher. One thing that I do well is talk, especially when stressed, and this dude certainly got his money’s worth. Try to mask your thunderstruck surprise, but I did not get that job. Apparently, my extended stoned monologue convinced the manager that I was “far too serious” for the job. Marijuana is awesome indeed, but sometimes? Sometimes, you may find that you are better off without it. I can’t believe that I just wrote that…Happy 420! Happy Birthday, my Lisa. Hey, I’m running out of things to talk about! INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHT

L

with Acres, Matrix, Evergreen Organix and Sahara Wellness

as Vegas is celebrating its first recreationally legal 4/20 this month. It is quite an elated time for the industry and a feeling of accomplishment is sweeping across the Valley for those who rode out the unpaved journey and many who trailblazed it. Tourists and locals are certain to be out in full support of all the time, effort and revenue that went into making this pipe dream a reality. Some dispensaries have made elaborate plans to celebrate the big 420 and most cultivation & production facilities are offering special products and rates to be passed on to the consumer. I sat down with a few industry owners to learn about their plans for this “stoner holiday,” which Bill Maher was working on turning into an official national holiday. Close to the strip is Acres Dispensary, a massive, 19,000 sq foot cannabis experience, featuring a glass front production kitchen, museum and Underground, the first “Marijuana Farmers Market.” I sat with founding partners, Paris Balaouras and John Mueller to discuss the 4/20 launch of their Underground and plans for an unparalleled celebration. FOCUS: How long ago did you have the vision to build Acres? Paris: Acres has been a work in progress spanning many years. We threw out all conventional methods and started with a blank canvas. It has evolved into something that we are incredibly proud of today. FOCUS: Did you launch Acres knowing Nevada would eventually be a recreational state? Paris: Yes, my partners and I always felt that recreational use would be passed eventually but the real reason for launching Acres was to create an epicenter for the entire cannabis industry. A cannabis experience unlike any other in the world. FOCUS: How have recreational sales affected your business model? John: Like everyone else, we were always betting on recreational, so creating a cannabis experience has always been the vision of Acres. Acres believes you must offer the tourist or patient more than a buying experience, it must encompass education and entertainment. FOCUS: What are your celebration plans for 4/20?

Paris Balaouras

Founding Partner, Acres CEO, MJ Holding Inc.

John: We’ve kept pretty low key up until this 4/20. We see the public launch of The Underground as our statement event. We will have the front lot jammed up with live music and art, with the Underground hosting a guest DJ inside. Acres is known for events, this one will be our best yet. We welcome everyone 21 and up to come celebrate with us. FOCUS: Can you tell us more about the highly anticipated Underground launching on 4/20?

John: Acres is all about new experiences. The Underground, America’s first Marijuana Farmers Market, flips the current dispensary business model upside down by giving control to the cultivators and processors to literally deal directly with customers and patients. No budtenders, just passionate operators, brands and customers that now get to interact directly. FOCUS: What is it like inside The Underground? John: Well we want everyone to come out and experience it for themselves, but through a drug tunnel, you’ll find cultivators dealing out of trunks of Cadillacs and so much more. It will have great energy. I decided to reach out to a couple of Acres’ top selling brands to learn more about the magic in their pudding. Evergreen Organix caters to cannivores (someone who prefers to eat marijuana edibles over smoking or vaping). They have an array of fancy, fun infused treats for consumption. I spoke to Jerry Velarde, President of Evergreen Organix. FOCUS: What are your most popular edibles? Jerry: Our chocolates. We have 8 flavors and rotate new choices every quarter. We use natural ingredients for flavor instead of synthetic flavorings. Some examples are lemon zest in our white

chocolate lemon bar, orange zest, dehydrated strawberries and blueberries, etc.

Later that day, we are doing an outreach for the homeless and Sunday we continue the celebration with outstanding sales specials.

FOCUS: What advice do you have to someone who has never tried an edible?

Interview conducted by Christi McAdams, CEO of FOCUS Distribution LLC, President of High Spirits, Owner of High Standard, Cannagora & Potent Solutions and member of Normal, LVMMA, Women Grow and WECAN. Contact email: christi@focusnv.com

Jerry: For someone new to edibles, we always advise to start slow and give it at least 90 minutes to take effect. Our chocolates come in 24 piece bars with each piece equal to 4 milligrams. Intermediate users can easily consume 2 to 3 pieces. FOCUS: What is the main focus for Evergreen Organix? Jerry: Passion. Our team has a passion for making the very best products. They are involved in continuing education to stay current on the newest trends in chocolate crafts, sugar artistry and baking. Next, I talked with a friend and colleague, Evan Marder, from Matrix. I met Evan at a Women Grow event a few years ago and was blown away when I toured his facility later that year. It’s beautiful, clean and professional. It was one of the first indoor grows I toured in Nevada and remains one of my favorites to this day. FOCUS: How have recreational sales affected your business? Evan: We've seen a 100% increase in sales since we've entered the rec market. Obviously the demand has increased dramatically. FOCUS: What are your most popular strains? Evan: We have a bunch, and are constantly looking for the next new hot strain. We have one on the horizon that I'm really excited about called Ultra Violence. Most popular strains currently are Jane Snow, Sugar Tits, Super Sour Diesel, and Do Si Dos. Lastly, I spoke to one of my favorite female owners in the industry, Brenda Gunsales, who ironically has a dispensary located at 420 Sahara Road to find out what plans she and her partners have to celebrate 4/20. Brenda: We are hosting a 4/20 weekend with sales on everything. Patient appreciation day is on the 21st with food and swag specials.

It’s a numbers game! So sorry to keep going on about the laboratories but not sorry since things are starting to change, and we should all know why.

that today may indicate 10-20% THC. And, that’s because, cannabis is typically between 12-24% THC. It doesn’t mean it won’t get you high or help with your pain, it just means you’re finally getting HONEST numbers.

As you may have noticed in your recent dispensary trips, THC levels are dropping dramatically. Flower from certain cultivators has gone from high 20’s to low teens. As I’ve stated before, Nevada allows a 15% +\- on the numbers stated. Most of the labs are using different means of testing. None of the labs will give you the same numbers. For some reason this SCIENCE is not an EXACT science. The reason for this is that this is still a very new science and one that is still being held back by the federal government.

The state isn’t allowing cultivators to “shop” labs to get higher numbers anymore without flagging them. And that has 100% been happening. The state has temporarily closed down a few of the labs to get them up to compliance and hopefully start getting us even more HONEST numbers.

Well that all seems to be changing and I for one couldn’t be happier. Basically, what it comes down to is teaching the average user that THC numbers are not the most important thing about cannabis. Some of these 30% and above numbers we were seeing were just complete bullshit. If 30% of that plant was THC wouldn’t we be able to see it? I’d probably be able to just pinch or scrape off a piece of pure THC if 30% of it was THC right?

The difference in THC numbers can mean the difference between a few hundred and over a thousand dollars to these cultivators on EACH pound. And, while I love our cultivators in Nevada, I’m more interested in people getting what they pay their hard earned money for with hope of making themselves feel better and sometimes saving their own or a loved one’s life.

Come on! Those of us who have been using cannabis since before medical and recreational use know that the way to pick your bud is by the seller telling you how it’s gonna feel, looking at it, and smelling it. This numbers game is a new thing. Those of you coming in the dispensary telling me you need the highest THC because you’ve been smoking for years and have a huge tolerance need to be aware of something. Products you smoked a few months ago that indicated a THC level of 25% or higher are the same strains, by the same growers, from the same lights and nutrients

I’ve been trying to involve myself in more of the meetings that are happening regarding lab regulations so patients and recreational users have a voice too.

So, essentially what I’m getting at here is quit chasing numbers!!! While we’re still a ways off from everything being exact, we are getting closer. The last Nevada Dispensary Association meeting gave me a bit of hope. I know they are aware of the problem and I see them working on it, I again just hope they will use some of the OVER 30 Million Dollars they got from us in taxes in the first 6 months to get this fixed sooner rather than later. As consumers that are paying a shitload of money in taxes, I think we deserve it. fter having a dope time with them at CHAMPS, I caught up with the homie Louie, CEO of Pro-Dab Oil, and the one and only Mitchy Slick, who if you don’t know, is one of the biggest West Coast underground legends, for a little convo-session about what they’ve each been up to. We could have talked for days, just about Mitchy’s cred in the rap game and all of the artists he has collaborated with, as well as the cannabis empire Louie is building. Oh and, how could I forget? Happy 420, everyone!

now? How do you work together professionally? Louie: I got Pro-Dab Oil, the THC line, and we have Pro-Dab CBD, and me and Mitchy got a glass collaboration of oil rigs. He extended his hand and my record label is distributed by Mitchy as well.

H: Mitchy, you have a new

strain, you want to tell us about that?

Mitchy Slick: The strain has been out for like a year now, it’s a killer OG, it’s by my man JR Budman out of San Diego. It’s

in 2011, then we ventured into clothing, after that, me and Mitchy started with the glass. After I dropped the THC line, after the first five or six flavors, me and Mitchy dropped his Triggeration Station line.

H: I gotta try that Triggeration Station. Louie: We officially released the CBD line at CHAMPS.

Mitchy Slick: I lived in Vegas for like eight years, so I know how to move around there. H: I gotta ask you both, what are your favorite strains?

Hopper (H): PTSD! Mitchy Slick: Yeah! I just left

H: Tell us more about your line of

Hopper: Stoked to catch up with you both again! Louie: It was a blessing to see you out at CHAMPS.

Mitchy Slick: Man, I’m movin’ around so crazy right now. My album just came out so I’m runnin’ around.

to manufacture and distribute in the state of California. And, we’re getting’ ready to do something big, bro. I see the industry switching over to these pods, Hopper. So the Pro-Dab Pods are comin’.

H: You’re in the process of getting licensed in Nevada as well, right? Louie: We’re in the process of

working with a couple of different people in Nevada, yeah.

H: Nice, nice. Same question to Mitchy- what do you have comin’ up next?

exotic guy. I’m into smokin’ rare strains, you know the stuff that’s hard to come by. I also lived in the Bay for a while. Before the 420 game got crazy, I was already friends with a majority of the cats. For instance, my partners from Zkittlez. And then my homeboy Berner, before Berner had the Cookies he was comin’ with that Cherry Pie.

Mitchy Slick: As far as products, I’m in cahoots with a company called Luna Roca, and the homies over at Stoney Delights, we’re comin’ together with a brand and a product called Medi Rocks. It’s an infused flower with kief. Basically we’re taking the infused flower game and steppin’ it up a notch to where everything is all from the same flower, and we’re doin’ that all with the Triggeration.

H: The Cherry Pie OG is bomb!

Louie: Let me elaborate a little

Mitchy Slick: Me, I’m an

a straight San Diego thing. It’s named after my first album that’s regarded as a street classic in California, Triggeration Station. Really now, I’m finding out that it ain’t just in San Diego. I kept it alive with that name. That name explains Mitchy’s whole story. I smoked that strain the whole time I was recording this new album, which is a sequel to the first Triggeration Station, and man we just havin’ fun with it.

Louie: Well, we just got licensed

Mitchy Slick: Yeah, that was The Jacka’s, Rest In Peace my brother, that was his favorite strain. As far as my personal preference, I’m an OG guy like the rest of us gangstas. I’m really heavy right now on a lot of stuff that Alpha Medic is doin’. H: Alpha Medic is dope. Louie, jump in here. Louie: Bro, I’m a non-flower type

products. You know I dig it, been reppin’ for years.

of dude. I’ve been non flower for like six years, Hop. I’m heavy on the concentrates.

Louie: Pro-Dab started back

H: What’s next up for you, Louie?

on the Medi Rocks. It’s THCA crystals, so it’s gonna be white on the outside and green on the inside, baby!

Mitchy Slick: Musically brother, I got the album that just came out titled PTSD. We just put it out through Conure Music, which is a streaming company that launched their app the same day they released the album. The album is an all 420 album, every song is 420 based, and it’s not necessarily what you may have heard from a Snoop Dogg or a Wiz Khalifa. This is more of a PTSD side of the 420 game. It’s a street album. My motto, what I’m

VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM

pushing is bringing awareness to the PTSD victims. Not just the war vets, but also other PTSD victims, the street vets. My motto is, “More weed, less gang murders.” You feel me? We can bet on that- more weed, less gang murders.

H: That’s dope, I definitely feel ya.

Who are some of your influences?

Mitchy Slick: Well, I’m off the Dr. Dre tree via Xzibit. Sir Jinx, all the original cats. Rest in Peace to my brother Crazy Toones. All the pioneers of the music we call gangster rap on the West Coast. I’m influenced by the young cats as well, because you gotta understand that the game has changed. So I’m also a fan of people not only for their musical talents, but also for their business talents. I wanna give a shout out to some cats out there moving independently, they’ve been giving me the motivation to do a lot of things. Shout out to my homie Freddie Gibbs. Nipsey Hussle, I’ve been right there with him his whole ride. Not only making good music, he’s making good business. That’s mostly what I’m a fan of today, young cats making big business. H: You’ve done a lot of collaborations. Who have you worked with? Mitchy Slick: Well, I can’t name everybody because we’d be here til next October! Let’s say from Lil' Wayne, Nipsey Hussle and The Game, to Gladys Knight, and pretty much anybody in between. Mostly I’m a West Coast cat. Shout out to a lot of the Bay cats, because they are the main ones who accepted me outside of Southern California. The Bay cats Too Short, E-40, you know what I’m sayin’. All my fellas in Strong Arm Steady. This list goes on… H: Those are all beyond legends. Speaking of collabs, a good homie of mine, Chucky Chuck aka Mr. DGAF, he’s gonna be gettin’ together with you soon, right?

\\ #702VCM \\ VEGAS CANNABIS

Mitchy Slick: Chucky Chuck is my bro, man! We’ve been tryin’ to collab for a minute. That’s my guy, man! I plan on doing some big things with the homie. H: Real quick before we end, Louie do you have any shout outs you wanna throw? Louie: Most definitely Stoney

Delights. We have a whole bunch of stuff that’s getting ready to happen with them. The Pro-Dab family for standing behind me. We have pre-rolls coming out in three flavors, they’re wrapped in kief and infused with Pro-Dab oil. We have the Phat Rocks, which is a high grade cannabis infused with Pro-Dab oil, and wrapped with kief. Also a Mexican edible line, candies infused with Pro-Dab Oil.

H: Mitchy, how ‘bout you? Mitchy Slick: Shout out to Conure Music. With the 420 game, it’s gonna basically narrow down to Nature’s Best. Shout out to the homie JR Budman for bringing this whole thing alive with that powerful ass flower he got over there. Pro-Dab is right here with me, that’s home. And then shout out to the homies that support me in Daygo- SD Tree Co, Mutant Genetics, Zkittlez in the Bay. I don’t wanna leave anyone out cause this is real important to me! Luna Roca, Great Vape, you know the cats that support me while I’m movin’ around, that’s what it is. I support those who support me. H: Right on! Thanks for taking the time for this, I appreciate it. Great tokin’ with you guys again. IG: @mitchyslickwrongkind FB: OG Mitchy Slick IG: @prodabceo & @prodab IG: @hopper448 FB: Hopper Stone Photo By: @slyvegas

How about this? My wife, your editor, Stephanie has been searching for a hybrid strain of cannabis with a 1:1 ratio of THC/CBD to produce her grainalcohol cannabis oil with. What is most remarkable is that the two most sought-after cannabinoids, THC & CBD, both boast over 10%. Another bonus for my wife, is that his plant contains a substantial amount of a-Pinene, which is a bronchodilator, helping asthmatics breathe. If you get dealt this winning hand, don’t fold. My Lord, this is fucking awesome. These labs are not blown up, I am. Shit, I can’t put my finger on it. In fact, two fat rips on this tank and I can’t put my index finger on anything. I need some help. I can’t get over how flavorful and fulfilling this product it is. I am an “all-day, every-day cannabis consumer” with a pretty big tolerance, so I usually don’t follow suggested use recommendations. But this time, I hit that Raz with the battery screwed up the cartridge’s ass, and it was fantastic. I love it when my legs feel like elastic. Stay away from this if you’re a lightweight. MEDIZIN Banana OG Shatter

JR

Medizin Medizin bo-bedizin, bananafana-fo-fedizin, me-my-mo-Medizin! This shatter’s got me feeling groovy. Banana is one of the better fruit flavors that has crossed OG’s path, and while the banana notes are there, it doesn’t completely mask that OG flavor I love so much. Medizin knows their way around an extraction lab, and this shatter is definitely proof of that. 70.57% THC is nothing to sneeze at! This is a strong concentrate that got right on top of me in the best way possible. Solid body high coupled with the perfect brain-fog, but I’m not brain-dead. This is why I love OG’s! I’m completely functional and totally ripped! I want to roll a fat worm of this into a two-gram joint of Medizin’s Chocolito flower. JR

Now this is a cartridge I can get behind! Look at all those cannabinoids beyond THC. And all of those terpenes just add to the reasons you should be checking out Silver State Trading. This Silver Stick started life as Big Smooth, a heady indica dominant strain, and is made from full-flower Clean Green Certified cannabis. With caryophyllene to spare, you’ll feel plenty of the lovely calming and sedating body effects that indicas are known to induce, and the myrcene will help activate all that THC. Plus, humulene is a fine appetite suppressant, so you’re not going to have overwhelming munchies either. Overall this is a finely balanced vape. The color is deep and the concentrate is thick and sappy. Take it slow with this Silver Stick, ok? This is one of the strongest vapes I’ve hit in a while and I’ll be going back to Blum to pick up one more this week. I know that as soon as people see these numbers they’ll be selling out quick. Great Job Silver State Trading! THC- 85.64% CBGa- 1.35% CBD- 5.8mg/g CBN- 2.6mg/g Caryophyllene- 17.1mg/g Myrcene- 14.5mg/g Humulene- 9.7mg/g

Thank you Silver State Trading for the cannabinoids! With so many fruity terpless distillate carts on the market, it’s a breath of fresh air to come across a high THC, terpene heavy and cannabinoid rich, quality hardware cartridge. Headquartered in Reno, these carts are slowly making their way south as Silver State Trading releases new products to the Nevada market. I’ve been following this brand for a while and am continually impressed by their high standards. Did you know their extracts are only made from Clean Green Certified cannabis? And this isn’t trim run, this is top-shelf concentrate made from full Mint Chocolate Chip flowers. Just like SST’s Indica Silver Stick, this is a strong vape. KENNY'S Coco Nut

VADER Space Candy Shatter

JR

I’m just gonna come right out and say it: Sometimes edibles taste bad. Lowquality ingredients, improper handling practices, unskilled chefs, and more. Thankfully, Kenny’s is all about highquality ingredients, impeccable handling practices, and letting seasoned cannachefs create these yummy Coco Nut goodies. The chocolate melts in your mouth, releasing a full-bodied coconut flavor. It’s not just a whiff or a hint of coconut, but a satisfying deep taste that stays with you as you crunch into the infused crispy rice. That’s when the finishing flavor takes over, kissing your palate with that unmistakable taste of cannabis. I love these things!

JR

The name says it all. This shatter’s as sweet as candy and it’ll blast you off like a rocket! This might be the best consistency I’ve ever seen from Vader’s shatter. Golden and clear, and perfectly stable, you’ve gotta touch it and cut it and dab it to understand how impressive this Space Candy is. It’s got a sweet front end that comes from its Cotton Candy lineage, and finishes with a mildly earthy exhale. Its other parent, Space Queen is a heavy resin producer, making this a great strain to make shatter with. A creeper, the effects comes on slow. Even now, 20 minutes after I dabbed, I can still feel the peak gathering momentum in my body and brain. I feel great already but know there’s still gas left in the tank. I’m gonna stop writing now and enjoy this smooth ride.

It’s irritating when people fuck up the English language. This is a case where most people get this wrong, but very knows how to spell the word people attempt to spoof within a strain name. This particular recurrence drives me bananas. Introducing Sour Banana Sherbet. It’s not “SHERBERT” Stonerpeople look at it again. Way to go Dr.K. You might actually be “My Father”. Do you know Joyce? Haha. The vibrant, yellow lightsabers shining through the authentic NV Vader Shatter were all the proof we needed to see that Death Valley Chad has become a Master Jedi. REMEDY Deadhead OG

Alright, day 2 here and I’m hangin’ with this Deadhead OG. The terps are a bit low, but that doesn’t take anything away from this true 24%er. After ripping on a few bong tokes, I log in to Call of Duty WWII on our Home Entertainment Center. I smashed on it for a while until I was distracted by hunger. My stomach keeps growling. What are we doing for dinner? I’m starving. Can we hit the Feast Buffet and eat whatever meat they’re carving? Ok, Deadhead OG is definitely an appetite inducer, cause all I can think about is food. I want some waffles, pancakes, steak, and a plate full of brownies. Let’s hit that Feast Buffet, then the sports book and hit a 6-team parlay. BS

Dude, this is the second product introduced by Remedy containing over 10mg/g of myrcene. That’s outstanding. The other product was a concentrate, so concentrated numbers can be expected. I want this in sugar or sauce form. I bet we would see 20+mg/g myrcene. Lights out! This did the trick. It was getting late and I wasn’t very tired, but this entourage effect should provide a natural sleep remedy. I would say no pun intended, but I knew I was being punny. Smoosh up this Lemon Kush if you want to smoke a bush that knocks you on your tush. If you want Silver Sage to deliver, pick up the phone and push a few buttons.

BS

This was absolutely incredible! If you think you’re smart, you’ll feel dumb if you don’t get to try some. All of the intelligent hash heads are doing it. How about a little peer pressure? C’mon dude, take this dab. Breathe out all the way, and inhale only about 50% of your lung capacity with vapor, then continue inhaling the other 50% with regular air to dilute the hit, and spread it around a bit. If this is too difficult or scary for you, don’t trip. There’s another way for you to check this out. Just grab a wax pen and load that baby up. I like several different brands of wax pens. Just don’t heat that wax and lay it down. Keep it upright, and don’t be so uptight. Yo! Go get this sugar in sight, and take flight tonight. Linalool- 2.6:mg/g

This tastes amazing! Using live resin in a vape cartridge is something new that only a few production facilities are creating. It tastes better than ordinary distillate. Usually I drain a cartridge like this and pistol it. But I won’t with this one, cuz there’s no need to rip it apart for it to make me feel splendid. When did I fall asleep? Shit. How long was I out? I gotta get up and refill this dispensary route. This will slow you down, without a doubt. Look out for Remedy’s clout. Go get you some. Don’t make me shout. >>>>Budtender Fight Club

Want a job in the cannabis industry? You’re going to have to fight for it. This latest round of Budtender Fight Club didn’t disappoint. The room was filled with industry and those eager to get into the industry, and everyone was there to learn. The energy was high as the first speaker took the mic.

MARC WASSERMAN: Pot Brothers at Law

Marc and Craig Wasserman of Pot Brothers at Law came in from California to have some NCAA Tournament fun and speak at BFC. Craig was supposed to come along as well, but Vegas got the better of him and Marc gracefully and skillfully presented for them both. Marc discussed a topic many of us have feared forever or faced personally -- being stopped and harassed by law enforcement, even while abiding by our state’s new cannabis policies. Marc’s advice was like all good advice should be, easy to understand and simple to implement. Covering five main points, Marc explained the reasons behind the advice he gives. “Your goal is to get a traffic ticket, not a drug infraction or felony.” It’s important to understand Pot Brothers at Law’s investment in cannabis law. Marc shared some personal stories about a family member who chose to enter the cannabis industry as California was beginning its medical use rollout. He and Craig knew that they needed to understand the industry so as to best protect their family member. Even though cannabis was state legal under strict circumstances, their family member encountered multiple legal problems along the way, one of the worst was initiated during a traffic stop. “90% of drug charges start with a traffic stop.” That’s a pretty big statistic, and Marc explained why it’s so high. Essentially, law enforcement is trained to ask us incriminating questions. What you might think are innocent questions about your day or your departure location and destinations can give law enforcement the tools they need to take advantage of your rights. To avoid becoming a victim of this cycle of abuse, there are only five simple things you need to remember when pulled over by law enforcement. 1: Why did you pull me over? The first thing you should ask the officer is “Why did you pull me over?” Make the officer explain the reason they pulled you over, and never offer reasons why they might have done so. It is up to them to provide a valid reason for stopping you. 2: I’m not discussing my day. Law enforcement will ask you questions about your movements and the reasons for your movements. There is no need to give them this information for a traffic violation. They’re trying to trip you up and increase the traffic violation to a drug infraction/felony. Your movements are your business, plain and simple. You

may need to repeat this phrase often, but remain calm and patient and never be aggressive. 3: Am I being detained or am I free to go? If the officer is dragging out the questioning and you find yourself being asked the same questions over and over, ask the officer, “Am I being detained or am I free to go?” At this point the officer is probably going to be a bit upset and insist you step out of the car. Remain calm. 4: I do not consent to searches. If asked to step out of the car, comply with the officer but state aloud, “I do not consent to searches.” This lets law enforcement know you are not consenting to their intrusion on your rights. As long as you’ve followed steps 1-3, there’s no legal reason other than an overt felony in plain sight in your vehicle for the officer to search your car. If you are taken out of the car, you're probably going to jail no matter what you do or say, so the only thing left to say is the last item. 5: I invoke the 5th amendment. Once you’re out of your car and in handcuffs, you’re going to continue to be questioned. The best thing to say at this point is, “I invoke the 5th amendment,” and then say nothing more. At that moment, you need to be thinking about the future and court and giving prosecutors as little to work with as possible. Invoke the 5th and then …SHUT THE FUCK UP! Remember Pot Brothers at Law’s advice the next time you get pulled over and follow their five simple steps!

Addie Martin-Bondhus:How To Become A Lead Budtender

Addie brought a lot of energy to the room with her beaming smile and overflowing personality. She came to teach about a topic close to her heart, being a great budtender. And not just a great budtender, but a lead budtender. Addie knows a lot about the subject. She was a budtender herself and earned the distinction as the highest-paid budtender in Nevada. How? She revealed all of her secrets to BFC. A lot of prospective budtenders think they need to learn everything about cannabis if they want to land a budtending job. That’s right, but only up to a point. Yes, cannabis knowledge is important, but there’s much more to learn to become a lead budtender, and here are some of Addie’s more important points. Be professional at all times. This is a broad bit of advice that you should always be considering. From the way you speak to coworkers and customers, to the way you handle stressful situations, always present yourself in a professional manner. Remember your hygiene. As a budtender, you’re a very visi-

ble representation of the company you work for. You should be as clean as the cannabis you want to sell. Shower before your shifts. Wear deodorant with little or no scent. Don’t wear heavy perfumes or cologne. Brush and floss your teeth, and always wear freshwashed clothes/uniforms. Cross train on every position you can. Don’t be too proud to learn even the most thankless jobs. A lead budtender should be able to step in and fill many roles in the company. Intake, packaging, stocking, patient check-in, sanitation, and whatever else needs doing. Be someone management can rely on in an emergency to replace a missing employee. The more you know, the more useful you are. Sample multiple products. You can’t properly sell what you’ve never tried. Let that sink in for a moment. If you’ve never tried a certain product, how can you honestly and informatively sell that product. Sample as much as you can. Take notes, keep a log that you can refer to often so as to build the catalog of products you're very familiar with. Post products and specials on social media. You don’t need thousands of followers to use your social media accounts effectively. Showcase products, deals, promotions, and popups. Get an inexpensive macro-lens attachment for your phone camera and download a photo editing app. Always support your management and their decisions. Decisions are made at management and executive levels that might not make immediate sense to supporting staff. It’s important to trust in your management team, take their direction, and support their decisions. Management has a lot going on and not enough time to explain every decision they make. The best way you can help management is to support their decisions. Addie’s advice is incredibly relevant to any of you out there hoping to land a budtender position, or for budtenders hoping to set themselves apart as a lead budtender.

Sheelah Golliglee-Trew Balance: CBD

Sheelah Golliglee presented an in-depth look at a much-discussed topic: CBD. There’s been a flood of information about CBD come out recently. All of it useful and informative, but also a lot of repetition, which was why Sheelah’s presentation was such a breath of fresh air. Sheelah is quite the source of knowledge on CBD and cannabis in general. She’s the owner of Nature’s Harvest, an Arizona dispensary, and she’s travelled the world exploring and learning about cannabis and the healing properties found within the plant. She’s also a cannabis advocate and passionately works to promote legal and social changes.

Sheelah began by asking a simple enough question: What is health? Most of us assume that health is the absence of symptoms. While that’s kind of correct, there’s a lot more to health than not feeling ill. According to Sheelah, we need to more closely understand the dynamic balance between our body’s main systems. If our body’s systems are in dynamic balance, we’re healthy. This health is because our systems are in homeostasis and working the way they should be working. But when one of our systems is out of balance, or oscillating, it has the ability to throw more systems out of balance. This oscillation between systems creates inflammation and the cascading effect of symptoms, which is what makes us feel sick. CBD is quickly being recognized as a healing property based on recent research into our bodies and the way they react to CBD. Did you know your endocannabinoid system is the largest system in your body, with more receptors than any other system? This information was first discovered by Dr. Mechoulam at Hebrew University Israel in 1992. This research gave medical professionals a more thorough understanding of how traditional medicine compares to CBD. CBD is different than traditional pharmaceutical medicines because it interacts with our endocannabinoid system to heal systems, not symptoms. Essentially, optimal health is achieved through physiological homeostasis, not through combatting symptoms. Sheelah went on to explain the way CBD is delivered to our bloodstream. As a lipid soluble, CBD must bond to oil or fat to pass through the blood barrier. The medium used to pass this barrier is important. With more research being done all the time and more information finding its way into consumers hands, CBD is enjoying much the same renaissance as THC. With ambassadors like Sheelah working hard to teach consumers and help change policy, expect to see even more positive changes in the CBD industry. Be sure to get your tickets now for next month’s Budtender Fight Club and don’t forget about their Cannabis Dispensary Education series as well. Perfect for people already working in the industry. The topics are more advanced and, like Fight Club, you’ll receive cannabis-education certification for attending!

>>> Learning BY WILLIE SPEARMINT

Welcome to the sacred month of April, the host of our holiest of holidays. With respect to Easter and Earth day, April 20th is the most highly celebrated by initiates of the endocannabinoid enlightenment. Rejoice as we usher in the end of reefer madness. Bear witness to the resurrection of cannabis regulations. Go beyond burning of the sacrament by remembering the marijuana martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice of life and freedom, allowing us to consume ‘freely’ today. Although the bud believers remain relentless persecuted even still, when our persecutors eventually realize the error of their ways, all that will need to be said is, “Welcome home.”

This semester they plan to present the panel in a classroom setting. Over the summer they hope to do the panel at least 2 more times; once at the Oasis Cannabis Community Center and once more at a Nu Leaf Signature event series. When classes resume in August they turn up the heat with a feature presentation in the auditorium of the UNLV student union. Shortly thereafter they plan to present at Nevada State College and the College of Southern Nevada before making their way to UNR. Arizona and California had originally been scheduled for spring of 2019 but UCLA recently booked the UNLV Rebels CAN panel for the fall semester. Happy 4/20!

The marijuana missionaries of the Rebels Cannabis Awareness Network (CAN) have been traveling to and fro spreading the good news of the ganja gospel, from the campus of UNLV to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. After carrying the cross of the cannabis conversation onto the college campus for 2 semesters the UNLV Rebels CAN decided to take the show on the road. Joined by their sister organization, UNLV SSDP, the group of seven students made their way to the 2018 Students for Sensible Drug Policy Annual International Conference in Baltimore Maryland last month. The Rebels CAN excursion was led by their Executive Director Deuvall Dorsey. In 2017 Deuvall attended the SSDP annual conference in Portland, Oregon. “After the amazing time I had learning so much last year, I knew this was something I wanted my team to experience. On campus 99% of students are too intimidated or too busy to express their true thoughts about cannabis and other drug policies. This rare opportunity to connect with so many other like-minded students from all over the world has broadened my global network, heightened my academic aspirations, sharpened my presentation skills, and encouraged me to think creatively about ways to incorporate cannabis into my professional career path,” said the Executive Director: Dorsem1@unlv.nevada.edu. The students attended the conference March 1st through the 4th. On Monday March 5th, they Lobbied Nevada’s congressional representatives on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. “During our lobbying time with several Nevada representatives, we were given the impression that there is a path to descheduling or rescheduling cannabis in the future. Albeit a distant future as there seems to be a small faction of congress in powerful positions holding up the process,” said UNLV ssdp Director of Internal Operations, Chris Probst.

82

As a result of the conference, the UNLV #RebelsCAN members are developing a panel to discuss what they learned and how the experience has impacted their outlook on their field of study and the work they do as a cannabis student leader. The panel will also include; how the cannabis student organization came to be, highlights and achievements of their first year and a special introduction by their faculty advisor, UNLV Sociology professor, Dr. Robert Parker.

STUDENT OF THE MONTH: HEATHER PANOZZO

The Cannabis Student of the Month for April is UNLV Junior Heather Panozzo. She’s majoring in social work and has taken a recent interest in conducting undergrad research before she graduates. Her love of dance and art is something she incorporates into her future career plans as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She spent most of her life in Iowa before serving in the United States Navy, after which she relocated to Las Vegas in 2013. Heather is a founding member and the recruiting director for the @ UNLVrebelsCAN student organization. She’s played an integral role in identifying students with high potential and recruiting key members who later went on to be elected to leadership positions. At the UNLV freshman orientation, she organized a table to inform incoming students on a variety of creative ways their chosen field of study can be connected to the cannabis industry. @_Heathaa_ Heather’s always had a passion for cannabis but it was a fatal accident that gave that passion a purpose. “My mom died due to an accidental overdose of morphine she had been prescribed by her physician for her leg amputation,” said Heather. At the time, Iowa had yet to make much progress with their medical marijuana program. “I am a firm believer that if there was a medical cannabis program my mother would still be alive if she had the option for safe access to alternative medicines like cannabis for her pain management,” Heather exclaimed. After graduating May 2019, Heather plans to continue her academic journey through higher education in pursuit of a graduate degree. Contact: panozh1@unlv.nevada.edu

By: Dawn Starr Looking Elk

MICAH MURRAY

“I paint, therefore I am... Always covered in it.” Micah D. Murray, Visual Artist.

VCM sat down with veteran festival project manager and local visual artist, Micah D. Murray, to talk about how art and cannabis have affected his life and health. DS: What led you to become an artist? Micah: I’ve kind of always been involved in the visual arts. I grew up in NH until my mid-twenties. In High School I took every available art class then developed my own curriculum senior year. I minored in studio arts in college but I focused on Geography due to my fascination with people and culture. After graduating I was contracted as a visual artist/muralist for music festivals: Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and a few Phish festivals. Professionally, I’ve mostly been involved in event management and design. It wasn’t until recently after being diagnosed with several illnesses that I seriously dove back into my art. It has been my therapy in so many ways and I can’t imagine my life without that release. After a gallery show at Skin City in July of 2016, I began bodypainting and that’s been something I’ve really enjoyed exploring since. It’s a fun medium and I enjoy the finiteness about it. Almost like a sand mandala that exists only for a moment. I don’t

view visual art with permanence. A painting can always be painted over. DS: How would you describe your art? Micah: My style varies depending on medium and mood but vibrant colors are a staple. I work in all mediums, from watercolor to acrylic, oil, spray paint, enamel, recycled materials, ink, dye… What I’m interested in is movement and I like to use brushstrokes and line work in a way that evokes a sense of motion in my work. DS: What has cannabis meant to you? Micah: After being diagnosed with Lyme disease, systemic neuropathy, autoimmunity issues and more, I turned to medicinal cannabis. I’ve literally been on dozens of prescribed medications for various conditions the past five years of treatment, but none have been more effective at managing symptoms and actual healing than cannabis DS: Do you have a favorite strain? How do you prefer to medicate? Micah: Skywalker OG, Blue Dream and Candy Jack are my top three for overall pain and symptom relief, creativity and focus. Edibles, whether full extract oil with coconut oil or homemade edibles, that’s what works best for healing. By ingesting the medicine, more of the cannabinoids are absorbed into your system to fight off infection, inflammation, GI issues, you name it. CBD is an amazing cannabinoid in itself and helps many, but it’s really the entourage effect of all the cannabinoids and terpenes that promote healing at the cellular level. I generally look for high levels of pinene and limonene and low levels of myrcene which can be really sedating. Chronic fatigue is a major symptom of mine, so I don’t need any help in that department, haha. DS: Who are your favorite artists, worldwide and local? Micah: Some people who I draw inspiration from and have worked with are; my friend Tessa who I’ve known for over 20 years and have worked alongside at several festivals (tessagreenobrien.com), Aaron Li-Hill who is just a rare talent and street artist who I had the chance to work with at Life is Beautiful in 2014 (li-hill.com), Robin Slonina from (SkinCityBodypainting.com) who is a classically trained artist of various mediums and an inspiration to me as an entrepreneur (robinslonina.com), and Russ Bennett who’s kinda like the festival design wizard here in the states, whom I’ve learned so much of what I know from. Also want to give a shout out to my friend Sydney who is often my model/muse and pictured here. You can check out her Insta @allthelove13.

DS: Where can people find your art, and what can we expect from you in the coming year? Micah: Online at MicahMurray.com Hopefully more live art and event work, as I’m able. I’ve got some personal projects that are on the DL for now, but a few things are in the works, including custom painted kicks. Stay updated on social media! DS: Do you have any recommendations for our readers trying to break into the Las Vegas art scene? Micah: Still figuring that one out myself, haha. Social media is so powerful these days and I think that’s the easiest way to promote your work. The best advice I can give to anyone boils down to something my father told me when I was 12 years old; the two most important things in this life are creativity and relationships. Now my father doesn’t have a single artistic bone in his body, but what he meant by it was, it is how you use your intuition, abilities and talents through networking with other people that leads a path to success. Nothing will be handed to you. You’ve got to go out and earn it. You’ve also got to be creative at times to troubleshoot certain scenarios. But in the end, always just be yourself and let your work talk for you. Be polite and confident, but never arrogant. Remember names as oft+en as you can, that goes a long way with anyone. Micah D. Chef Fred Chasing the CBD Unicorn

ON THE ROAD WITH

R

ise and shine family, spring is here. The start to a great spring morning is a strong, infused breakfast. CBD rich eggs and potatoes, THC rich honey bacon. I don’t like to eat big in the morning, a simple breakfast is best for me so I don’t feel super bogged down. The OJ is infused with CBD isolate. This is a great meal producing a little buzz and lots of clarity and focus to stimulate the mind for the work day. Let’s talk about this CBD unicorn. Early September I was asked to source CBD isolate for a client. This was not a normal spot buy. The order was much larger, for a contracted 500 kilos purchased at $6,500 a month for 12 months. Let’s do the math, yeah $3.25 million a month, $39 million a year. Yeah, you have my attention sir. It was in September that this deal ensued and I began my chase for the CBD unicorn. We started a law firm, consulting company and escrow company partnerships to begin our journey. Each day, new deals seem to be coming in and the feeling of excitement increased at the thought of the deals going through. Along the way, I began building a protocol to weed out sloppy brokers and develop a black list of my little phonies. December started the real craze, with orders of 1000-5000 kilos and 12-month contracts. The deal was being shopped by more brokers than I have ever experienced. The problem was, it was the same deal and it always ended in nothing. Friends turned on each other, and threats arose, causing havoc between many groups. These potential buyers had fake proof of funds, fake escrows, and were outright lying while making legitimate businesses work thinking they actually had a unicorn that was catchable. Hahaha,

nope. It was out of reach, and I am speaking from my own experience of chasing this damn thing. I have now come to my senses. This last week was the biggest unicorn deal to date, I had relationships with the buyer and felt I actually had a chance to capture the beast. 10,000 kilos at $5000 each on a 12-month contract. Easy math $50 million a month, yes that is 120,000 kilos, $600 million a year. No problem, I got this! This deal requested a domestic grown and processed product. Let’s talk some facts about biomass grown in the United States. A hempvote.com report says there was 25,541 acres of hemp grown domestically. That number does not specify grown and processed for CBD extraction. Each acre can produce 900-1700 plants yielding one pound per plant depending on the hemp plant cultivated. Flower is the best in yield and the other hemps are much lower in CBD. It takes 40-80 pounds to make one kilo of isolate depending on the CBD content. Let’s do some math again. Let’s say 15,000 acres were utilized for CBD extraction and each acre produces 1300 pounds of biomass with 19.5 million pounds of biomass possible for extraction domestic. This is scattered across 19 states that grew legal hemp in 2017. Earlier I said to produce 1 kilo of isolate we will need 40-80 pounds of biomass. Sixty pounds is the middle, so we will divide 19.5 million by 60 pounds which gives us 325,000 kilos possible, in my little equation, on a good day. I am not going to say it is impossible, but it is impossible for one laboratory to produce this deal with domestically produced CBD. This CBD unicorn is more a My Little Phony to say the least. I have seen hundreds of my friends try to broker this deal with no success. Millions of dollars really brings out the true colors of people who thought they were cool. Like all mythical creatures, they disappear and they continue to be elusive. I think if I had a rainbow lasso and tossed it into the clouds, I would have a better chance for a real unicorn than having a CBD unicorn come true! Happy 420!

Breakfast

Eggs: Cook eggs sunny side up in infused CBD isolate infused butter Potatoes: Wash and dry potatoes. Slice thin and separate. Dice 1 onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Fry in pan until tender and colored. Finish the potatoes with CBD infused white truffle oil. Bacon: Bake bacon on a baking sheet with parchment. Glaze bacon with THC infused honey throughout the baking process.

I am blessed to have family all along the Pacific Rim: from Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, the Philippines, and further East. Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice with Macadamia THC Oil INGREDIENTS:

Lake Las Vegas Roll

Yield: one sushi roll • 2 Cups Sushi rice ( short grain rice rinsed clean, cooked in rice cooker with 4C water, ½ C. Seasoned rice wine vinegar) • 1 nori sheet • 1Tbsp prepared wasabi • ¼ Avocado, sliced • ¼ Cucumber, cut into matchsticks • 1Tbsp cajun spice • 2oz #1 sashimi grade hamachi, seared rare with cajun spice • 1 bamboo sushi mat • plastic wrap DIRECTIONS: Lay rice on nori and spread to cover one side. (Note: Wrap bamboo sushi mat with plastic wrap so rice doesn't stick to the mat.) Nori side up, spread one finger of wasabi lightly down center of roll, top with cucumber, avocado & hamachi. Roll nori like a burrito & lay plastic wrap over roll. (Note: plastic wrap helps keep rice in place while cutting). Cut roll in half, then cut each half in half until eight pieces are cut. Poached shrimp are layered on top of left over sushi rice and garnished with apple slices. Miso Caramel Soy reduction is drizzled over sushi roll.

1 Tbsp coconut oil (vegetable oil can be substituted) 1 Tbsp sesame oil ½ lb shrimp (cleaned), fresh or frozen 1-2 cloves of garlic, pressed or minced fine ¼ tsp ginger, fresh or ground ½ c frozen diced carrots and peas, unthawed ¼ c corn, unthawed 2 eggs, lightly beaten 2 c cooked rice, white or brown 1-2 scallions, chopped into 1/4” sections 2 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp Macadamia THC Oil per serving*, (dosage to suit your height/weight; if habitual, adjust dosage to suit) 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar, or to taste salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS: Pour oils into skillet. Add in shrimp and cook for approx. 3 minutes on medium-high heat, tossing every now and then with a spatula or wooden spoon, so shrimp cooks evenly; bigger pieces of shrimp could take longer to cook. Once fully cooked (be careful not to overcook), remove shrimp using a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving any remaining oils in skillet. Cook garlic and ginger in skillet for about a minute, stirring time and again so they cook evenly. Add in carrots, peas and corn. Cook and stir for a couple of minutes more, until the vegetables soften. Leaving vegetables on one side of the skillet, pour lightly beaten eggs onto another side. Once cooked, roughly break eggs in skillet into smaller bite-size (about 1” or less) pieces, using your cooking spatula.

Melt equal parts butter & brown sugar to 240’. In a separate pot bring soy sauce to boil and reduce by half. Add caramel & 1Tbsp Saikyo miso. (white miso)

Add shrimp back into skillet, rice and scallions. Evenly drizzle soy sauce and Macadamia THC Oil around skillet. Use salt and pepper to suit your taste buds.

Cannabis cold pressed macadamia nut oil can be added to this sauce. Most dispensaries carry, honey, oil etc. user tolerance is optional.

Add in brown sugar and toss everything a few more times to ensure even cooking and distribution of ingredients and flavors. Enjoy :)
