>>> The EMS Experience
AT BODY20 SUMMERLIN
In both their personal and professional lives, the Anderson family has made wellness and health a priority. Together, they own and run BODY20 Summerlin, a state-of-the-art fitness facility that uses cutting-edge Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) technology to revolutionize the way individuals approach exercise. Since opening, they have established themselves as a vital part of the wellness community and they continue to support local events and charitable endeavors, such as collaborating with Ali Everett, Mrs. Nevada International, to advance reading in Las Vegas. For the Andersons, BODY20 is more than simply a gym; it's a place where people change their lives. Through the advantages of EMS training, the Andersons have witnessed members lose weight, recover their health, and even lessen their need for medicine. Their goal is to offer clients the most efficient and effective workouts possible, enabling them to attain outstanding outcomes in as little as 20 minutes, two or three times per week.
BODY20 is not your typical gym. Workouts are fast-paced and last just 20 minutes. Each session, a personal trainer guides the member through a personalized, one-on-one program focused on either strength, cardio, or a mix of both. Prior to beginning the session, the member is outfitted with a lightweight, adjustable, electrode-enabled suit which provides their body with over 150 times more muscle contractions than a typical workout. Workouts are guided and may include the use of light hand weights, bands, and weighted balls. Each workout burns calories, reduces cellulite, tones the body, increases blood circulation and builds lean muscle. By following the guidance of professional trainers at every stage, members typically see improvements in posture, core strength, and even back discomfort while addressing muscle imbalances. And, the team at BODY20 will allow those interested in membership to come in for a free trial to see what an actual workout entails.
Members can also take advantage of InBody Assessments on-site that allow your progress to be monitored each week. The InBody machine tracks both fat loss and muscle gain while giving a comprehensive picture of your internal health.
BODY20 BENEFITS
Maximum Results in Minimal Time: Each 20-minute BODY20 session equals hours in the conventional gym.
Minimize Strain on Musculoskeletal System: The lack of heavy weights in training sessions enables a high-intensity workout that is low-impact on joints, bones, nerves, and muscles.
Fat Reduction: Like with most strength training, BODY20’s strength training sessions prompt a higher level of metabolic activity both
during and after workouts, causing the body to burn more fat longer.
Build Muscle (Hypertrophy): The extra stimulation given to muscles during each session leads to a quicker increase in muscle mass. Studies have also shown that EMS is effective at speeding muscle rebuilding post-surgery.
Improve Strength and Endurance: A typical gym workout recruits anywhere from 30-70% of a person’s strength potential depending on fitness level. By improving how muscles work together and increasing muscle contraction intensity, Body20 sessions recruit up to 90%.
Relax Muscle Tension: Sessions promote the circulation of blood throughout the muscles, which can significantly help to release muscular tension and knots.
Correct Muscular Imbalances: BODY20 sessions can be customized to target selective muscle groups or sides of the body, which can play a vital role in correcting imbalances.
Optimize Posture: Sessions are particularly effective at improving core strength, fostering good posture and preventing injuries.
Enhance Sports Performance: Through maximizing the capacity and strength of muscles, and correcting posture and other imbalances, BODY20 is a proven performance enhancer and the ultimate body hack.
Complete Customization: Your BODY20 plan, sessions, and settings will be customized and personalized for your body and wellness goals.

Vitamin D >>> Its Role and Efficacy in Modern Medicine
Introduction
Imagine stepping into a world where the simple act of basking in the sun could unlock better health across various facets of your life. This is the promise and controversy surrounding vitamin D, often called the “sunshine vitamin.” Over the years, vitamin D has been celebrated for its role in maintaining bone health, but recent studies have expanded our understanding of its benefits and limitations, revealing complex interactions with numerous physiological processes. This narrative will delve into the current evidence on vitamin D supplementation, incorporating insights from landmark studies and expert opinions across multiple medical fields, including endocrinology, integrative medicine, cardiology, oncology, and exercise physiology.
The Journey of Vitamin D in Our Bodies
Vitamin D synthesis begins when our skin is exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation from the sun. This process can be complemented by dietary sources and supplements, available in two primary forms:
Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol): Found in plant sources and fortified foods.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol): Synthesized in the skin and present in animal sources like fish, liver, and egg yolks.
Once ingested or synthesized, vitamin D undergoes hydroxylation
in the liver, transforming into 25- hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], or calcidiol. The kidneys then convert this to its active form, 1,25dihydroxyvitamin D, or calcitriol, which performs various critical functions in the body.
Unveiling the Benefits of Vitamin D
Bone Health: Vitamin D’s role in bone health is well-established, promoting calcium and phosphate absorption necessary for bone formation and maintenance. Dr. Mariana de Moura de Souza, MD, and colleagues recently published a meta-analysis in the Journal of General Internal Medicine scrutinizing the efficacy of vitamin D in preventing fractures among the elderly. Their study, involving 71,899 patients, found no significant difference in total fracture incidence between those taking vitamin D and a placebo. However, an intriguing and cautionary detail emerged: women taking vitamin D supplements had an increased risk of hip fractures. This suggests the importance of considering calcium supplementation alongside vitamin D .
Boosting the Immune System
: Vitamin D is known to modulate the immune system, enhancing the pathogen-fighting abilities of monocytes and macrophages while reducing inflammation. Dr. Rachel Louise Moraes Dantas, MD’s research indicates that vitamin D supplementation can reduce the risk of acute respiratory infections and may play a role in mitigating autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes .
Cardiovascular Health: With vitamin D receptors present in the heart and vascular system, the vitamin influences blood pressure regulation and cardiovascular function. While some studies link low vitamin D levels to higher risks of hypertension, heart disease, and stroke, clinical trials have produced mixed results. Dr. Peter Attia, MD, a prominent figure in longevity medicine, underscores the nuanced role of vitamin D in cardiovascular health, advocating for more targeted research .
Cancer Prevention: Vitamin D’s influence on cell growth, apoptosis, and differentiation suggests potential cancer prevention benefits. Observational studies have linked higher vitamin D levels to a reduced risk of colorectal, breast, and prostate cancers. However, randomized controlled trials have not consistently confirmed these protective effects. Oncologists like Dr. Thiago Bosco Mendes, MD, emphasize the need for a balanced view, considering both observational and trial data .
Enhancing Mental Health: Vitamin D receptors in the brain influence neurotransmitter production. Low levels of vitamin D have been associated with increased risks of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. While some studies suggest that supplementation may improve mood and cognitive function, more research is needed. Integrative medicine specialist Dr. Andrew Weil, MD, often recommends vitamin D as part of a holistic approach to mental health, combining it with other lifestyle interventions .
Comprehensive Overview and Recommendations
Background
Vitamin D is essential for calcium and phosphorus absorption, promoting bone mineralization and optimal metabolic function, and maintaining normal blood calcium and phosphorus levels . It can be obtained from dietary intake or supplements (both vitamin D2 and vitamin D3) and is synthesized in the skin from sunlight exposure (only vitamin D3).
In patients with conditions associated with vitamin D deficiency, supplementation is often needed since dietary intake and sunlight exposure alone are often insufficient for treatment. Conditions managed with vitamin D supplementation include:
• Rickets
• Corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis
• Renal osteodystrophy
• Osteomalacia
• Hypophosphatemia (familial or secondary)
Vitamin D supplementation is also used for deficiency due to inadequate sun exposure, dietary intake, exclusive breastfeeding, older age, chronic kidney or liver failure, celiac disease, and fat malabsorption conditions.
By: Manoj K. Sharma, DO, Board Certified Internal Medicine Elite Medical Associates
Contraindications
Vitamin D supplementation should be avoided in hypercalcemia (sarcoidosis), Williams syndrome (infantile hypercalcemia), and hyperphosphatemia .
Efficacy of Vitamin D Supplementation
Studies evaluating the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation are limited by a wide range of doses and formulations, baseline deficiency assessments, and attained vitamin D levels. However, patients with known vitamin D deficiency should be treated. Some key findings include:
• Vitamin D3 may reduce all-cause mortality in older women with insufficiency.
• Vitamin D supplementation might reduce the risk of advanced cancer in individuals with a body mass index <25 kg/m2.
• Vitamin D3 supplementation might reduce the risk of acute respiratory tract infections
• In combination with other vitamins and minerals, vitamin D may reduce fasting glucose concentrations in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
• It may reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes in non-obese patients with prediabetes.
Conditions for which vitamin D supplementation does not appear effective include improving bone mineral density, reducing falls or fractures, enhancing physical function in older adults, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease or mortality.
Conclusion
In summary, vitamin D has long been celebrated for its role in bone health, but recent research reveals a more nuanced picture of its benefits and limitations. From bone health to immune modulation, cardiovascular health, cancer prevention, and mental health, the evidence highlights both the potential and the complexities of vitamin D supplementation.
Vitamin D, once hailed as a near-panacea, demonstrates the complexities of medical science and the need for continual research and adaptation. As we learn more about how it interacts with other health interventions like exercise, our approach must evolve. By staying informed and flexible, we can provide the best possible care for our patients, ensuring they benefit from the latest, most reliable scientific evidence.
Furthermore, looking at a single nutrient in a vacuum within the complex system of the human body is challenging. We must consider multiple factors—structure, function, metabolism, activity, sleep, restoration, stress, and inflammation—all play a role in health maintenance and disease propagation. The challenge for a physician is to integrate these factors holistically.

The Holistic Chamber of Commerce
Building Businesses Through Intentional Networking
The Holistic Chamber of Commerce, although new to Southern Nevada, has been active globally since 2010. The organization is woman-founded and supports holistically-aligned businesses, practitioners and community members. Here, Rachel West (President) along with Veronica Scala (Vice President) have joined forces to head up our local Las Vegas Holistic Chamber of Commerce. I recently sat down with the ladies to hear about their motivation in starting this Chapter and what we can expect from the Chamber in the coming year.
Stephanie Shehan: Hi Ladies! Please, give me a little background on each of you.
Veronica Scala: I am originally from Chicago and moved to Las Vegas when I was in middle school. My mother struggled with addiction and I was raised by my father. I worked with my dad in the family business up until about ten years ago when I transitioned into the field of mental health and addiction treatment. It was there that I realized how difficult it was for individuals to navigate the system in getting the proper care. I became a trusted resource for those seeking guidance in addiction treatment. In 2022, we started our True Connection Lunch as a way for mental health, addiction and alternative resources to come together and network. Today, I own Reach Out for Recovery, a small marketing firm in strategic marketing with a holistic focus on business growth and longevity.
Rachel West: I am also from the Chicago area and have been here in Las Vegas for 10 years. When I moved here, I started a graphic design company and co-ran that for four years. I then began studying modern neuro-science, specifically in regard to marketing - I wanted to learn how people made decisions, how they processed information and how they communicate. In studying this, I discovered that I could use this knowledge for much more meaningful work. In 2020, I started my holistic life coaching business which focuses on mindset and mental wellness. Empowering people is my focus. There are so many people in our community suffering, they don’t know what they don’t know or where to turn to seek help.
SS: That’s amazing that you two moved here from the same place and are now deeply connected and working together. What made you decide to start the Holistic Chamber of Commerce?
RW: When the opportunity to head up a local group of the Holistic Chamber was presented to me, I immediately contacted Veronica to see if she would be interested in helping. We both know all too well that people are sick of being sick and tired. They want to feel better mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. So, we joined forces and began the Chamber as a way to network and connect with like minded people for the betterment of the community.
SS: I love that. How long has the local chapter been active? And, what sets the Chamber apart from other local networking groups?
RW: We started the Chamber in April of 2024. I have attended many different networking groups in the last ten years. Many are more of a social hour where members mingle and exchange business cards. The Holistic Chamber is an “intentional” networking group. We are coming together to get to know one another both personally and professionally. My goal is to keep the setting as intimate and personal as possible, even as we grow. I want people to really connect with one another. We will also be bringing an array of different holistic practices to both our members and the community.
SS: That sounds awesome. Who can join the Chamber? And, what are the different membership options?
RW: The Holistic Chamber of Commerce welcomes practitioners, consumers, businesses and organizations looking for member to member support. The Chamber also connects consumers to holistically aligned providers of products and services. We offer two different membership options as well as sponsorships. Monthly membership dues are affordable and come with options such as inclusion in the online directory and access to event posting. We are a global organization and our

online portal is public which allows those searching for holistic businesses and events access to what is on the site. We have local groups across the country and members traveling are encouraged to attend meetings in other states to connect there as well.
SS: How often do you meet? And what can members expect when meeting?
RW: We meet once per month for our business mixer. We are currently holding these mixers at Paymon’s Fresh Kitchen and Lounge - the venue does provide dinner at each mixer. Each mixer includes member speakers as well as small group networking. Those contemplating membership are welcome to attend a business mixer without confirming membership by simply reserving their space and paying the mixer fee.
SS: Does the Chamber participate in any community events?
RW: Yes, this year, we participated in Relay for Life, Project 150 and the Firefighters of SN Burn Foundation Holiday Toy Drive.
SS: Those are amazing local organizations! It’s really nice to see a networking group actively participating in giving back. What can we expect from the Chamber in 2025?
RW: This year, we are planning various free events that community members and business professionals can attend, to understand and experience what the Chamber is all about. In addition, we will be expanding our monthly events to different days and times to better accommodate our members.
SS: Where can those interested find more information about the Holistic Chamber of Commerce?
RW: Visit HolisticChamberOfCommerce.com/Vegas, call me at 702-7141888, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Red Light Therapy >>>
for Athletes and Weekend Warriors
Red light therapy is a relatively new technology that has been shown to have a wide range of benefits for athletes. From improving endurance and strength to reducing muscle soreness and recovery time, red light therapy is quickly becoming a popular tool among athletes of all levels.
Collagen Production:
Red light therapy may assist in athletic performance by potentially stimulating the production of collagen in the body. Collagen is a protein that is essential for healthy joints and connective tissue, and it plays a critical role in maintaining the strength and flexibility of tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues. By potentially increasing the production of collagen, red light therapy may contribute to the overall health and function of the joints and connective tissue.
By Dan Lier
Whether you're an athletic trainer for a college team looking to
optimize athletic performance on the field, court, or ice, or a professional athletic trainer seeking a competitive edge, red light therapy is definitely worth considering.
Reducing Muscle Soreness:
Another way that red light therapy improves athletic performance is by reducing muscle soreness and recovery time. When we exercise, our muscles are subjected to a lot of stress and strain. This can cause inflammation and soreness, which can make it difficult to perform at our best. Red light therapy has been shown to reduce inflammation and soreness, which can help to speed up recovery time and get athletes back to training and competition faster.
Endurance and Strength:
In addition to these benefits, red light therapy has also been shown to improve endurance and strength. This is likely due to the increased production of ATP, which is the energy currency of cells. With more ATP in the body, muscles are able to work harder and for longer periods of time, which can lead to improved performance. Overall, red light therapy is a powerful tool that can help athletes of all levels to improve their performance and enhance their recovery.
Dan Lier is the director of sales for Body Balance System in Las Vegas. They design, engineer, manufacture, and distribute red light therapy products to the sports industry. As a former college basketball player and former college basketball coach, Dan knows the value of staying healthy and getting players back on the court, field, or ice.
In addition, Dan went through two years of chemotherapy for a disease from 2017 to 2019. As a result, his body has always been sore and full of aches and pains. He uses the OvationULT red light therapy bed 3x per week, and feels like a champ. His body feels great and my muscle soreness is gone.
Looking to learn more about red light therapy itself or red light therapy beds and lights? Dan can be reached directly via email at dlier@ bodybalancesystem.com or via phone or text at 702-807-1769.

Preventing Weight Gain While Traveling >>>
Traveling can feel like the perfect excuse to slack off on healthy habits, but it doesn’t have to lead to extra pounds. With a little planning and preparation, you can enjoy your trip without sacrificing your weight loss goals.
Tip
#1: Pack Your Own Food
This might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s a good reminder—pack your own food! I have a friend who even brings meal preps on flights in a cooler with ice packs. This way, when she lands, she doesn't have to rush to the nearest fast food joint. Having full meals ready to go is a game-changer, and trust me, airport snacks just don’t compare. Whether it’s for a road trip or a flight, packing your food means you stay in control of what you eat. Skip the fast food and make your travel meals healthier and more satisfying.
Tip
#2: Rethink Your Road Trip Snacks
Got road trip traditions? I know for a lot of people, it's all about loading up on junk food at gas stations like chips, candy, sodas- the works. But here’s the thing: while it feels fun in the moment, you’ll probably feel sluggish and gross when you arrive. My family used to do this too, but we’ve since swapped out those junky snacks for healthier options. Now, we pack fresh fruit, protein bars, beef jerky and even cheese sticks, so we still enjoy our road trip snacks but feel so much better when we reach our destination. You don’t have to eliminate all the treats, just balance them out with some fresh, energizing foods!
Tip
#3: Hit the Grocery Store
Yes, grocery stores are everywhere, even when you travel! When you get to your destination, hit up a local grocery store for essentials. I do this on most trips, and it saves me both money
By Rose Peterson
and calories. Pre-made salads, Greek yogurt, and fresh fruits are easy to pick up and they help you avoid fast food while you're out exploring. Some people even get groceries delivered straight to their hotel rooms via services like Amazon Fresh, which is perfect if you’re headed somewhere like Disneyland or a big city. It's all about having healthier options on hand, so you're not left with just fast food.
Tip #4: Stay Active—Bring Your Sneakers!
One of the best parts of traveling is exploring new places, and walking around is a great way to burn off those extra indulgences. Whether you're hitting up the local hiking trails, exploring the city, or finding a nearby gym, staying active helps you keep your energy up and burn off some extra calories for indulgent meals. If you're part of a fitness community like Olympic weightlifting or Crossfit, you might even make visiting new gyms a fun part of your trip. Stay active, and it won’t feel like you're sacrificing anything—plus, it's a great way to meet new people and explore your surroundings!
Tip #5: Plan Your Indulgences
Let’s be real: part of the fun of traveling is trying new foods. I’m not here to tell you not to indulge, but I do recommend planning ahead. Check out the restaurant menus before you go so that when you sit down, you know exactly what’s worth the splurge. This prevents those impulsive decisions that might leave you feeling stuffed and sluggish. Research even shows that planning your meals helps you stick to your health goals without relying on sheer willpower. So, go ahead—enjoy those special meals, but do it mindfully.
Bonus Tip: Don’t Freak Out Over the Scale
If you step on the scale after a trip and see that it’s up by a few pounds, don’t panic! It’s likely water weight or inflammation from traveling, not actual fat. Remember, every gram of carbohydrates you eat causes your body to hold onto four grams of water, so it’s totally normal to see a temporary increase. Just get back to your routine as soon as you return, and that weight will stabilize within a week. My cheesy saying: Make it right with the very next bite. It’s all about getting back on track right away—no guilt required!
Travel doesn’t have to sabotage your health goals. With a little planning and balance, you can enjoy every moment of your trip without bringing home any extra pounds. Safe travels!

>>> RESOLUTIONS REDEFINED
Make 2025 the Year of Personal Growth
Happy New Year!
As we enter 2025, many of us are setting goals, crafting resolutions, and perhaps planning that dream vacation. But no matter how carefully we plan, the future remains a mystery. Life has a way of surprising us, often when we least expect it. When those curveballs come our way, we're left to hope that things will work out, even when we can't see the whole picture.
Yet, I've learned that in moments of uncertainty and instability, our best choice is to lean into personal growth. In those times, as we stoke the fire within, we not only discover our greatest strengths but also uncover qualities we never knew we had, empowering us to face the future with confidence.
Think back to the plans and goals we all had before COVID-19 hit. No matter your perspective on the pandemic, one thing is undeniable: life changed, and the future was a question mark. For some people, COVID tested their mental health, and some were unprepared for the toll it took. During that time, I faced a choice: be angry, be scared, or embrace the moment for growth. I chose growth. I sought therapy to heal old wounds, dove into philosophy to expand my perspective and threw myself into writing. Did I see the results immediately? No. But personal growth isn't about instant gratification. It's a process.
I was committed to the process of personal growth. When we set goals like starting a diet or exercising, we often get frustrated when we don't see results; I have been there. Personal growth is like the drip effect: small efforts water the soul each day. With time, patience, and commitment, we begin to blossom. But growth doesn't work on our timeline. Some wounds can't simply be wished away; they require us to roll up our sleeves, get our hands dirty, and actively remove what's holding us back. It takes work!
Too often, we try to control every detail of our lives, waiting for that "perfect moment" to focus on ourselves. But here's the truth: there is no perfect time for personal growth. Did I plan for a global pandemic? Of course not. Life doesn't
wait for us to be ready. That's why we must start today.
The commitment I made to myself in 2020 transformed me. I became a better version of myself. But make no mistake- personal growth can be terrifying. It requires us to look inward, confront our flaws, and bring those negative traits into the light. For me, that trait was anger. I was angry about my past, about what happened to me in my youth, and the unanswered questions that haunted me. I had let anger control my emotions and often turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms. And while I thought I was protecting myself, anger only led me down destructive paths.
The hardest part was admitting it. I had to face my pain, address the elephant in the room, and let go of what no longer served me. It was challenging. Some days, I took two steps forward and one step back. Some days, I doubted myself and my decisions. But no matter what my mind told me—or what others thought—I kept going. Here's what I learned: the tighter we cling to what we know, the more we blur the possibilities of our future.
As we stand at the threshold of 2025, ask yourself: How can I grow? Yes, losing a few pounds or setting career goals might be on your list, but what if you aimed higher? What if you forgive yourself for past mistakes? What if you turned weaknesses into strengths or chose to help others in ways you never have before?
Personal growth isn't just about you; it creates a ripple effect. Our actions today don't just shape the following year; they shape the next five years and beyond, transforming our lives and the lives of those around us.
The future is unwritten, filled with triumphs and challenges. Our role isn't to predict it but to prepare for it. When victories come, let's embrace them fully. When challenges arise, let's face them with resilience, determination, and strength.
Hope fuels our dreams, whether for love, success, or unexpected blessings. While the future remains uncertain, the best thing we can
By Steven Dee Kish
do is focus on who we are today. The person you build now is the foundation for the life you'll love tomorrow. So, start now. Start small. Start messy. But start. Here's to 2025 and the growth waiting for you.

Words are powerful. They shape our thoughts, influence our actions, and, when chosen with intention, they can transform our lives. The phrase “abracadabra” is often associated with magic, but its origins suggest something even more profound. Derived from an Aramaic phrase, it roughly translates to “I create as I speak.” This reminds us that the words we declare cast spells over our lives, shaping our realities.
Many of us rush to make resolutions at the start of a new year, often filling long lists with ambitious goals that fade by February. But what if we focused on a single word instead of resolutions? A word that, like a magical incantation, sets the tone for the year ahead.
I first learned of this practice through my friend Maria Aleandra. She was intentional about creating a life designed entirely on her terms. Watching her thoughtfully select a word each year, and then live by it, was transformative to witness. Her word wasn’t just a fleeting idea; it became an anchor, empowering her and grounding her as she navigated the year’s ups and downs.
At its core, this practice is about choosing a single word that serves as a guiding principle or intention for the year ahead. Unlike traditional goals or resolutions that often focus on specific achievements— losing weight, saving money, or reaching a milestone—a word of the year is about alignment and focus. This moves us away from a checklist approach to life and offers us a lens through which we view our choices and
experiences.
Most people approach life from what some coaches call a “DOHAVE-BE” mindset. They believe they must do certain things in order to have certain outcomes, which will finally allow them to be the person they aspire to become. But when we flip this model to “BE-DO-HAVE,” we discover a more empowering truth: our way of being shapes the actions we take, which naturally leads to the results we desire. Choosing a word of the year is ultimately a practice of being—embodying the qualities and energy of the life we want to create.
Less than a year after learning this practice from my friend, a community I’m part of called the Anima Collective, took the idea even further. The founder, Jaime Nolan, has turned it into a shared ritual of accountability and connection. At the start of each year, she guides the community through our word selection and writes it down to hold for us—an act that solidifies our intentions and ensures we remain connected to them throughout the year. She also offers each of us a bracelet etched with our word, serving as a daily, tangible reminder of our chosen focus. This practice is so much more than a one-time exercise. Psychologically, choosing a word helps cut through the clutter of competing priorities. It focuses the mind and reduces decision fatigue because it becomes a compass for choices: “Does this align with my
By Ilona Pamplona
word?” Emotionally, it acts as a mantra during challenges, reminding us of what we’re striving for and how we want to feel. Practically, it’s a reminder to stay aligned and steers us back to our intentions.
Choosing your word of the year is a deeply personal process, but it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Here are things to consider when uncovering a word that resonates and aligns with the year you want to create:
Reflect on the Past Year
Begin by looking back on the previous year. What worked well for you? What brought you joy, growth, or success? On the other hand, what felt heavy, challenging, or misaligned? This reflection can reveal patterns or areas that are ready for intentional change.
Envision Your Ideal Year
Close your eyes and imagine yourself a year from now. What feelings, themes, or achievements stand out in this vision? Maybe you see a year filled with connection, balance, or courage. Allow these themes to guide you toward words that capture the energy you want to carry forward.
Brainstorm Potential Words
Write down every word that comes to mind without overthinking. Let the ideas flow freely. Words like “Abundance,” “Flow,” “Courage,” or “Harmony” might pop up, but keep going until you have a robust list of possibilities.
Refine Your Choice
Once you have a list, spend time with each word. Say it aloud. Write it down. Imagine how it feels in your daily life. Does it inspire you? Does it feel expansive rather than limiting?
Avoid words with negative prefixes or suffixes like “realign” or “fearless.” While these might seem aspirational, they can unintentionally draw focus to their root forms which could suggest a need to repeat or redo something, like being stuck in a loop of constant correction. Instead, choose words that fully embody what you do want, such as “Align” instead of “Realign” or “Courage” instead of “Fearless.”
Trust Your Intuition
Remember, your word doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to resonate with you. It’s less about picking the “right” word and more about choosing one that feels meaningful and intentional.
Choosing a word of the year is just the beginning. The magic happens when you bring it into your daily life, allowing it to guide your actions, decisions, and mindset. Here are some ways to stay connected with your word all year long:
Create Visual Reminders
Keep your word front and center by placing it where you’ll see it regularly. Write it on post-it notes and stick them on your bathroom
mirror or desk. Set it as your phone wallpaper or screensaver. You can even create a piece of art featuring your word, turning it into a decorative and meaningful display.
Use It in Journaling or Meditation
Incorporate your word into reflective practices. At the start or end of each day, journal about how your word showed up or how you can embody it tomorrow. During meditation, repeat your word like a mantra, letting its energy infuse your thoughts and intentions.
Check In During Decision-Making Moments
Let your word act as a compass when making choices. Before saying “yes” to a new opportunity or navigating a challenge, ask yourself: “Does this align with my word of the year?” This practice ensures your actions stay true to the intentions you set.
Choosing a word of the year can be an intuitive process, but I personally love diving into the origins of the words I am choosing because it can reveal layers of meaning I might not initially notice. I specifically use etymology.com to explore the history and evolution of a word. Two years ago, I chose the word “influence.” At first glance, it seemed like a straightforward word that reflected my desire to grow my impact. But when I looked up the etymology, I discovered its origins in the late 14th century as an astrological term meaning “streaming ethereal power from the stars when in certain positions, acting upon character or destiny.” Its Old French roots described an “emanation from the stars that acts upon one's character and destiny.”
This definition spoke directly to the work I was doing at the time, integrating astrology deeply into my coaching practice. Knowing the full meaning behind my word allowed me to step more fully into my role as an astrology-informed life coach, embracing what it means to be guided by the stars and empowering others to align with their cosmic blueprint.
Choosing a word of the year is more than a ritual—it’s an invitation to live with intention, alignment, and purpose. As you start this new year, take a moment to reflect, dream, and discover the word that will guide your journey. Let it remind you of who you’re becoming and the life you’re creating.
One word has the power to shape your year—what will yours be?

The Future of Beauty What’s Shaping Plastic Surgery in 2025
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I’ve dedicated my career to helping people look and feel their best. Over the years, I’ve witnessed how trends in plastic surgery have evolved with cultural shifts, technological advancements and a growing demand for personalized results. Looking ahead to 2025, here’s what I predict will dominate the plastic surgery landscape and what these trends could mean for you.
1. The Era of Undetectable Surgery
Gone are the days of exaggerated enhancements that scream, “I’ve had work done.” Subtlety is the new luxury, with patients increasingly seeking procedures that refine rather than redefine.
This trend reflects a broader movement toward authenticity. Patients are looking for ways to enhance their natural features without losing their individuality. Whether it’s a tailored rhinoplasty, or refreshing blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), the goal is harmony and balance, creating a refreshed, youthful appearance without any obvious signs of surgery. Advancements in surgical techniques, like precision and fat
grafting, have made undetectable surgery more achievable than ever. Patients are investing in these bespoke enhancements not only because they look natural but because they offer lasting, timeless results.
2. Implant Removal and Breast Rejuvenation
Breast surgery is undergoing a significant transformation, particularly among Gen X women reaching menopause. Many are choosing to have their implants removed, replaced with smaller ones or opting for just a breast lift to restore a youthful contour.
Hormonal changes during menopause can affect breast tissue and women are increasingly opting for procedures that align with their evolving priorities. Some are seeking a more natural look, while others are removing implants altogether due to concerns about long-term maintenance or personal preference.
As a surgeon, it’s rewarding to help patients navigate this journey, ensuring their choices align with their health, lifestyle and selfimage. Breast rejuvenation isn’t just about looking great, it’s
about feeling comfortable and confident in your body at every stage of life.
3. Weight Loss Treatments on the Rise
The success from popular GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro for weight loss has sparked a new wave of demand for plastic surgery procedures addressing skin laxity and body contouring. These medications often prescribed to treat diabetes but now widely used for weight management, have changed the game for many patients looking to shed excess pounds.
While the results of these medications can be life-changing, they often leave patients with loose or sagging skin, particularly around the abdomen, thighs, arms and neck. Surgical options like tummy tucks and BBLs are becoming increasingly popular as patients seek to refine their contours and fully enjoy their weight loss transformation.
4. The Rise of Cosmetic Procedures for Men
Cosmetic procedures for men are no longer taboo and I’ve seen the demand surge firsthand. In recent years, I’ve treated a growing number of male patients and this trend is only set to accelerate in 2025.
Men are becoming more comfortable with enhancing their appearance. From Botox and fillers to gynecomastia surgery (which reduces breast size and refines chest contours) and rhinoplasty, I’m seeing an increasing demand for procedures that enhance masculinity while maintaining natural-looking results.
Many of my male patients are professionals striving to stay competitive in their careers, while others simply want to feel more confident in their personal lives. Whether it’s a subtle enhancement or a more transformative change, the surge in demand for male aesthetic procedures shows no signs of slowing down.
What’s Driving These Trends?
Several factors are influencing the shifts we’re seeing in plastic surgery. Social media continues to play a significant role, with more people exposed to images of subtle, polished results that spark inspiration. Technology is also advancing at an unprecedented pace, making procedures safer, more efficient and more customizable.
Another major factor is the growing emphasis on health and wellness. Today’s patients are looking for holistic solutions that enhance their overall quality of life, not just their appearance. They’re more informed and intentional about their choices, seeking results that align with their personal values and long-term goals.
By: Dr. Christopher Costa
The Common Thread: Customization and Confidence
What ties these trends together is the growing emphasis on customization. Patients no longer want one-size-fits-all solutions. They’re looking for treatments tailored to their unique anatomy, lifestyle and aspirations.
As a surgeon, my goal is to partner with my patients to create results that not only look natural but also feel authentically “them.” It’s about helping each person celebrate their individuality, embrace their beauty and feel confident in their own skin.
A Word of Advice for 2025
If you’re considering a procedure in the coming year, take the time to do your research and have an open, honest dialogue with your surgeon. Ask questions, explore your options and prioritize your health above all else.
Plastic surgery is about more than appearances, it’s about enhancing your quality of life and giving you the confidence to be your best self. With trends moving toward subtlety, customization and natural beauty, 2025 promises to be an exciting year for patients and providers alike.

FLOW MASSAGE THERAPY
Healing Through Education and Touch
In the bustling world of wellness, Flow Massage Therapy stands out with its commitment to personalized care and a philosophy that prioritizes teaching before healing. Led by a passionate therapist with nearly a decade of experience, the practice is rooted in a deep understanding of the body’s mechanics and a genuine desire to help clients live their best lives.
At Flow Massage Therapy, every session is a collaboration. “We focus on understanding the root cause of pain or tightness, explaining why it happens, and guiding clients on how to maintain overall well-being,” the founder explains. With this approach, the practice empowers individuals to take charge of their health, fostering long-term wellness beyond the massage table.
The founder’s journey to massage therapy is as unique as the care provided. Coming from a family of Western-trained doctors and being exposed to Eastern medicine from a young age, she developed a curiosity about the human body and its intricacies. Originally planning to attend medical school, she took a detour to explore her interests in languages and ancient civilizations before landing a corporate job on Wall Street. However, life had other plans.
Returning to Las Vegas to care for her 95-year-old mother, she worked at an adult daycare center, where a pivotal moment changed her path. “One day, a woman asked me to touch her shoulder, saying it made her feel better. Soon, others began

requesting the same. That experience sparked something in me—it was time to return to medicine, this time through massage therapy.”
This diverse background (spanning science, finance, and caregiving) shapes the holistic approach of Flow Massage Therapy. Each session incorporates insights from various disciplines, ensuring clients receive care that is as thoughtful as it is effective.
The philosophy behind the practice is simple but profound: “We teach first, heal second.” By helping clients understand their bodies and the reasons behind their discomfort, Flow Massage Therapy creates a partnership in wellness. The ultimate goal? To see clients overcome physical limitations and embrace an effortless path to a healthier, happier life.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the work is witnessing those transformative “A-ha!” moments when clients realize they’re capable of achieving what once seemed impossible. “The joy and surprise in their eyes when they release pain or discover newfound mobility is why I do what I do,” the founder shares.
Beyond the massage table, Flow Massage Therapy’s founder is a creator at heart. From gardening to experimenting with healthy twists on global cuisines, she finds inspiration in everyday activities. Her passion for creativity extends to her community involvement, supporting causes like animal rescue shelters, homelessness initiatives, and sex trafficking survivors.
Her life is filled with love and companionship, shared with five fur babies: Lucy, Tofu, Chewbacca, Ginger and Mila, and a desert tortoise named Fred. Family is central, as seen in the recent celebration of her mother’s 95th birthday, a milestone that reflects strength and resilience.
To the community, Flow Massage Therapy offers a simple but powerful message: “Take care of the little things before they become big. Think of your body as a high performance vehicleregular care ensures it performs at its best. Small aches and pains are signals that shouldn’t be ignored.”
With its thoughtful approach to wellness and a philosophy that blends education with healing, Flow Massage Therapy is not just a service, it’s a journey toward a healthier, more empowered life.

THE POWER OF BIOHACKING & HABIT STACKING The Desert Moon Wellness Approach
The phrase “New Year, New You” has never resonated with me. For decades, I pushed myself hard at the end of each year, only to reset in January with a grand plan of rejuvenation. While it worked for a time, I realized that true wellness isn’t about flipping a switch at the start of the year. Life moves too quickly—the years fly by, even when the days feel long. That’s when I embraced a new mindset: each day is a chance to start fresh.
For me, wellness is about real, sustainable changes. Fads have never been my thing. I discovered the importance of grounding my practices in science, listening to my body, and focusing on habits that nourish me physically, mentally, and spiritually. This journey, which started in 2016, has transformed not only my life but also the lives of those I’ve been privileged to guide.
The Power of Biohacking and Habit Stacking I often say biohacking saved my life, though, at the time, I didn’t even realize that’s what I was doing. It wasn’t until 2020, when I connected with leaders in the biohacking movement, that I understood the science behind the practices I had already been incorporating into my life.
It’s not about being perfect—none of us are. Every day presents challenges, but through habit stacking, I’ve learned how to create a life that feels balanced and fulfilling. By layering small, positive habits over time I’ve built a routine that helps me, and my clients, thrive.
One of the first lessons I learned was the power of starting small. For example, spend just five minutes each morning grounding yourself. Step outside barefoot, and let the healing energy of the earth (PEMF, or pulsed electromagnetic fields) and the sun (first light exposure) work their magic. This simple practice supports your circadian rhythm, reduces inflammation, and helps your body’s systems communicate more effectively. It’s a small act with massive benefits.
Another key is to focus on replacing negative habits with positive ones, one at a time. Life’s ups and downs will inevitably disrupt our routines, but by concentrating on what feels good and aligns with our values, we
naturally crowd out the less helpful habits. Over time, this creates a life centered on brain balance, gut health, and mind-body connection—all essential components of feeling whole.
The Desert Moon Wellness Approach
At Desert Moon Wellness, we take a holistic, science-based approach to wellness. One of our core tools is the Neural Check, a heart rate variability assessment that provides a comprehensive look at how your body is managing stress and maintaining balance. This data helps us create personalized protocols to optimize your nervous system, ensuring that changes are both effective and sustainable.
We also offer functional and integrative medicine to identify underlying imbalances, so your wellness journey leads to lasting transformation. By combining cutting-edge technology with proven wellness strategies, we help our clients achieve vibrant health—mind, body, and soul.
Build Your Sustainable Routine
The message I want to share is this: invest in yourself wisely. Don’t fall for fads or trends that won’t stick. Instead, find positive habits that work for your life and goals. Sustainable wellness isn’t about perfection; it’s about creating a routine that allows you to thrive, even during life’s challenges.
For example, here’s what my typical day looks like:
Morning Routine:
• Gratitude: Start your day with intention. Spend five minutes in gratitude or meditation.
• Grounding: Go outside, barefoot, and let your body connect with the earth.
• Sunlight: Let the first light of the day enter your eyes—this is free, natural therapy.
• Movement: Rebound on a vibration board, practice yoga, or enjoy any movement that energizes you.
• Sauna & Recovery: Spend time in an infrared sauna or hang upside down for 3 minutes to boost circulation.
• Nutrition: Eat to optimize your cellular health with nutrient-dense foods.
• Supplements & Nootropics: Support brain balance with targeted supplements and adaptogens.
• Connection: Spend time with loved ones, share a meal, and focus on being present.
Weekly Practices:
• Fit in resistance training, contrast therapy, yoga, or HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) a few times a week.
• Engage in community fitness or wellness activities to stay connected.
The beauty of these practices is that most are free or low-cost. Grounding, sunlight, and gratitude don’t cost a thing—and they’re some of the most transformative tools I’ve ever used.
Let’s Thrive Together
If you’re ready to take charge of your wellness journey, I invite you to visit Desert Moon Wellness. During a consultation, we’ll assess your nervous system and design a plan tailored to your needs. You’ll also experience our favorite pre/post HBOT- biostacks like BrainTap + Mild PEMF or Brain Tap + Light Therapy.
You deserve to feel your best every day—not just in January. By stacking habits that work for your life, you can create lasting change and enjoy the vibrant, balanced life you’ve always wanted. I look forward to guiding you on this journey.
Let’s make 2025 the year you thrive—one sustainable habit at a time.

WHAT IS ENERGY MEDICINE?
By Candace Silvers
"What is energy medicine? Until you have direct experience of it, it just sounds like an idea. However, when in use (when useful) energy medicine is much more powerful and stronger than anything the mind can understand, perceive or conceive. The ability to tap into energy medicine is what ignites it and causes it. The ability to tapin is also part of the medicine itself.
No different than turning on a light switch, you know that there’s energy in the walls, but you can’t see it or feel it. However, you know it’s there because when you turn on the switch, the light appears.
The Neurological Equipment
The brain uses the mind (i.e. the pathology), as its own personal history, to dictate how the brain (“the plumbing equipment”) works. And therefore, what it secretes, and how often it secretes into the body. When that wall-of-dough pops, it becomes Waldo just like in our children’s books: It’s always been there, but we haven’t been trained to see it, yet. Once we see it, we can also connect to it.
“What you see is what you be.” Meaning, if mom brings comfort, joy and love, the body calms down; the secretions are powerful anecdotes for healing. If mom brings chaos, fear and instability, the secretions from the mind using the brain as its plumbing system send messages of protection, safety, fear.
A 2-week old baby is pure energy; nothing has separated from the whole, yet it is all vital, pure harnessed energy.
My job is to connect practitioners, who are studying with me, back to that wall-of-dough before we had a thought of what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’: i.e. We were the experiencer experiencing the experience, with no mind and no thought, no intelligence, no knowledge, just pure energy.
What I have tapped into, and what I am teaching, is how to tap back into that energy. Once you do, like a fireman’s hose, you can extrapolate and make it user-friendly. You now have the potential to disintegrate any block in the body, any hole in the body, any twisted muscle, any ‘out-of-order’, any dis-ease - essentially, the hole can become whole.
I teach you how to turn that light switch on so that the light (i.e. energy) can extend, to pop that individual secretion, twisted muscle, cancerous cell, back into “Whole Energy,” dis-integrating Waldo (the ‘out-of-order’) back into the wall-of-dough.
Pure energy, from the practitioner - or the light switch, if you willcan enter the block or out-of-order, and the healing process begins.
So to ask, “What is energy medicine” is not a simple answer, and yet in the answer is the experience. The only way to know that Energy
Medicine works is to try it. If you come to me with a hurt neck, or cancer, or a broken ankle - as it heals in the moment, maybe not completely, but enough to be clear that it’s working - you then can become a direct experiencer of energy.
The reason it’s taking so long to get into our culture is because it cannot be understood, bought, or sold- it can only be experienced.
You cannot tell someone about a light switch who’s never seen electricity work. You cannot tell them, “If you flip this button, light will appear in a darkened room.” The mind that’s never experienced electricity in a building has no analogy with which to understand it. It must walk into the room and flip the switch itself.
It’s unfortunate, but it’s kind of interesting that the ‘ticket to ride’ is a pain or problem. When our culture cannot help us anymore, we seem to go looking outside of what our medical and scientific industry has been able to point to thus far, taking us to “beyond what we know”.
The moment you have this experience (ie. walk into a room and watch the light appear through your own direct experience), whether it’s on a Global Healing Event where I’m healing hundreds of people at the same time on Zoom, or you fly-in to see me personally, as soon as your body begins to heal, you began to feel better in the present moment the switch has been flipped. You begin to ‘know’ energy medicine.
It’s kind of like saying, “How do you know God is real?” My answer will always be- the only way to know God is to have a deep, personal experience yourself. So truly the only way to know God is through your own experience."

JANUARY HOROSCOPES
By Margaux Hansberry
ARIES (MARCH 19-APRIL 19)
With Mars, your ruling planet, stationing retrograde and squaring your sun sign there is a strong urge for personal transformation that helps you to focus inward with a bit of tension that comes along with finding yourself. You might appear more reserved or self centered to others, so make an effort to engage with their lives and avoid dominating conversations with your own stories. Your relationships will be intensely passionate and emotionally charged, especially around January 13th when the full moon is in Cancer. Don’t be surprised if you’re feeling more sensitive and reactive. At work, your self focused tendencies might make you feel unstoppable, but remember to collaborate with your team and support your colleagues. Balancing your individual drive with teamwork will yield the best results.
TAURUS (APRIL 19-MAY 20)
Your listening skills and organizational talents really shine this month, making you a rockstar in communication. Thanks to Mercury in Capricorn from the 8th to the 25th, your communication will become more structured and to the point. This is an excellent time to focus on long term planning. On January 30, 2025, Uranus stations direct in Taurus. As Uranus gains speed, you'll feel a renewed urge to express your unique self, take risks, and stir up positive change. You'll also be focusing on your financial stability. Just remember, while your intellect and creativity are your strengths, they can also make you a bit stubborn. Be mindful of this to avoid conflicts with colleagues and loved ones. Stay grounded and humble, and you'll navigate January with ease and success.
GEMINI (MAY 20-JUNE 20)
January is all about relationships and renewal. As the New Year begins, you'll start to notice what works and what doesn't in your relationships. Your natural ability to nurture connections will make you feel right at home. With the Sun entering Aquarius on January 19, you'll feel a boost in your social and innovative energies. This transit trines Gemini, enhancing your communication skills and social connections. Mercury joining Aquarius on January 27 will further amplify your ability to think creatively and connect with others. You'll be clear about your goals for the year and prioritizing them won't be a problem, but perseverance might be a challenge. Fortunately, your knack for making new friends can help you stay focused. Find a buddy to motivate and encourage you along the way.
CANCER (JUNE 20-JULY 22)
The start of the year can be stressful, especially with company goals being set. Your natural tendency to listen carefully to those close to you is a strength but can be a burden. Mercury in Capricorn from January 8th to the 25th will require
you to be more structured in your communication, but opposes your sun sign, making it important to find a balance between your emotional needs and professional demands. Your job might feel unbalanced, with superiors piling on extra work and criticism. Don't let this create a vicious cycle. Gather your courage and speak up to earn the respect you deserve. Take it easy on the Full Moon in Cancer on the 13th which is likely to amplify your emotional sensitivity. Engage in creative activities that allow you to express yourself and restore your inner balance.
LEO (JULY 22-AUGUST 22)
January is a time for renewal and breaking free from last year's routines. You are alert and determined, making it the perfect time to tackle any problems you've been putting off. Your persuasive skills make you a top notch negotiator. Superiors will notice your dedication and commitment. The Sun entering Aquarius on January 19th and Mercury following on January 27th opposes your sign, potentially leading to some friction with others in communication and how you represent yourself. Just be mindful of your dominant and explosive behavior, as it might cause damage to your reputation and those you care about. The New Moon in Aquarius on January 29th will amplify these energies, so balance your individuality with teamwork and diplomacy to make the most of this month.
VIRGO (AUG 22-SEPT 22)
At the start of the year, you might feel a bit down or insecure. Instead of seeking external validation, focus on getting back into a routine, self development, and sticking to your resolutions. This dedication will bring you a sense of success and attract positive energy into your life. In the realm of love, you may feel scattered and uncertain. Be aware that you might be preoccupied and less attentive to others, while also feeling neglected. Remember, harmony in relationships requires effort from both sides. With Mercury entering Capricorn on January 8, your communication will become more structured and practical, which can help you express your needs clearly. Don't shy away from open communication. Discuss your feelings with friends if you’re single, or your partner if you’re with someone special.
LIBRA (SEP 22-OCT 22)
This month starts off rough but things will lighten up. Uncertainty about your life's direction causes a lot of emotional turmoil. It's important to take a step back and avoid making hasty decisions, as this period of emotional flux can be overwhelming. You don’t need to have it all figured out! Be cautious of how you choose to blow off steam. If you're feeling tired, take breaks, enjoy nurturing activities, and go easy on yourself. The Sun's move into Aquarius on January 19th highlights your innovative and social side, training your sign and bringing some much needed positive energy. With Mercury entering Aquarius on January 27th and the New Moon in Aquarius on January 29th, you'll find support in your communication and social interactions.
SCORPIO (OCT 22- NOV 21)
January is shaping up to be a dynamic and motivated month! You’ll start the year with a surge of drive and enthusiasm, feeling confident and unstoppable. Your mental stability is your greatest asset, helping you navigate important decisions at work and in your personal life. While you'll be in a positive and calm mood, it's crucial to respect your body's needs. If you're feeling tired, take the time to rest as ignoring fatigue could lead to health issues. Venus entering Pisces on January 2nd brings a harmonious trine to your sun sign, enhancing connections with others. Stay true to yourself and avoid getting swept up in New Year's resolutions or life changes that don't align with your authentic self. This month, your calm and focused approach is the key to success.
SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21-DEC 21)
Unresolved issues from the past are likely to resurface, and you'll need to address them to move forward making the focus of this month conflict resolution and closure. Be prepared for encounters as unresolved matters between you will need to be discussed. While old feelings might resurface, try not to let them overwhelm you. At work or in your studies, you might find it hard to focus and could feel quite impulsive. This lack of concentration could impact your relationships with superiors, who might perceive you as uncaring about your job. WEAK CBD IS A SCAM
Here’s What Actually Works...
My husband and I have been in the cannabis and plant medicine space for over four decades collectively. We know the cannabis and hemp plants intimately, are experts in formulation, and with this knowledge comes one undeniable truth: Not all CBD products are the same.
If you’re like most people, you’ve probably wondered the same: Am I really getting the most out of my CBD? The truth is, many products on the market are underpowered, overpriced, and underwhelming. To the everyday consumer, low-potency CBD might seem like a good idea, even the norm, but it’s also the reason why so many find themselves disappointed with its results. If you’re still buying into the idea that low-potency CBD is worth your hard-earned cash, I’m about to burst your bubble (and probably save you some money in the process).
How Does Bioavailability Work?
Here’s the truth: if your CBD bottle reads anything less than 100-200 mg per single serving, you’re likely wasting your money. Bioavailability—the amount of substance that your body actually absorbs—is the most important part of CBD. High-potency CBD maximizes bioavailability, especially in products like oil tinctures that absorb directly into the bloodstream.
It’s also worth noting that CBD isn’t always absorbed well. For example, when you ingest CBD in the form of a gummy or a capsule, it has to pass through your digestive system, where much of its potency is lost. By the time it reaches your bloodstream, only a small fraction of the original dose will be absorbed.
When you take CBD sublingually (under the tongue), it’s able to bypass the digestive system and enter your bloodstream directly. This method greatly increases bioavailability, so more CBD is absorbed into your body, and you get more out of what you pay for.
High-potency CBD products are also usually made with a greater attention to quality. In general, they contain fewer fillers, fewer gimmicks, and more of the good stuff.
THC vs. CBD:
What’s the Difference?
Confused about the difference between THC and CBD? You’re
not the only one, so let’s clear it up. THC is psychoactive. It’s the part of the cannabis plant that gets you high. CBD, however, is non-psychoactive. CBD won’t alter your state of mind, no matter how much you take. If you’re someone who’s worried about the effects of higher doses, know that CBD will give you all the therapeutic benefits without any of the mental cloudiness associated with THC.
Beware the “Fluff Amounts” of CBD
Most stores carry what I like to call "fluff amounts" of CBD—products with such low potency that they’re essentially useless. These low-potency products are generally aimed at consumers who are new to CBD and don’t know what to look for yet. They offer a false sense of value. In the end, you pay more, get less, and see little to no results.
The other problem is that many companies don’t understand the science behind CBD dosing. They treat it like it’s THC and offer similar dosages despite the fact that CBD requires much higher amounts to actually work. As a result, consumers end up with products that barely scratch the surface of what CBD can do.
Expert Insights: Kyle Jones and Future Compounds
To learn more about high potency CBD, I spoke with my friend Kyle Jones, founder of Future Compounds, who has spent over a decade in the cannabis industry, long before it was mainstream or even legal in many places. “I’ve always felt there was something greater about cannabis than just getting people high,” Kyle tells me. Starting his journey in cultivation, Kyle quickly became a pioneer in extraction and helped develop some of the industry’s first extraction technologies. His passion for the science of cannabis led him to co-found Future4200.com with partner Dustin Powers, a forum for scientific discussions around cannabis processing.
“When I started consulting and building labs, I realized how much misinformation was out there,” he says. “People on the forum were saying, ‘We trust you. If you make products, we want to buy them.’” This led to the founding of Future Compounds, a company focused on producing super-refined CBD and hemp products with clean, effective
At Future Compounds, quality and potency are non-negotiable. We trust their products so much that we’ve purchased them in bulk to create our own formulations. What we love most about them is that they take dosing seriously. Not only are all of their products lab-tested, but they’re also based on research-backed potency. For beginners, Kyle recommends their 150 mg gummies. For those needing more relief, their tinctures are packed with 25,000 mg of CBD per bottle. And for extreme cases, their coconut oil contains a whopping 100,000 mg per container.
How Much CBD Do You Actually Need?
Research suggests that therapeutic doses of CBD range from 200–600 mg, far more than the “fluff amounts” most products offer. The FDA’s approval of Epidiolex, a CBD-based medication for epilepsy, proved that CBD can be highly effective—but at much higher doses than most people realize.

occasional user or someone dipping their toes into the world of cannabinoids. But for those of us who need real results, it’s time to stop settling for less. Low potency might seem like a safe starting point, but in reality, it’s a pricey distraction from what actually works: a product with enough CBD to deliver therapeutic benefits without requiring you to drown in half the bottle.
If you’re serious about exploring CBD’s potential, don’t settle for mediocre products. Invest in high-potency CBD, and let it do what it was designed to do: work.

Cooking with Chris
I hope you all had a phenomenal Christmas and NYE! This month’s recipe is in honor of a man I have tremendous respect for. Luciano Pellegrini…. James Beard award winning chef, restaurateur, and food phenom. Culinary royalty to me personally. This was from a past opportunity where I had the honor to represent him and his style. It turned out marvelous in my opinion but cooking at that level leaves zero room for error, and he will truly let you know this. He has put me in places and helped me tremendously in my career. Something I will truly never forget. So let’s get to this delicious recipe.
Avocado Crab Tartare
Ingredients:
4 cans of lump crab meat (drained)
6-8 assorted sweet peppers (minced)
1 jar of Sir Kensington's vegan mayo
1 container of Bull’s Blood micro greens
1 bottle of Yuzu extract
4 lemons (zested and juiced)
4 limes (zested and juiced)
4 oranges (zested and juiced)
6-7 avocados (diced)
4 oz red tobiko
1-6 cookie cutter rings
INSTRUCTIONS:
First off you want to grab three decent sized bowls. One for your crab, one for the avocados, and finally one for the dressing.
Next you want to make your mayo by adding all of the mayo to your bowl. Add half of the yuzu extract (3-4 oz.) plus half of each of your juices. Mix together. Place in a bottle using a ziploc bag
or just a pastry bag.
Next, take your crab and add half of the mayo you just created. Plus, your sweet peppers, zests of lemon/limes, half of the orange juice (only if it looks too dry after mixing) and finally your red tobiko. Mix thoroughly. Put everything in the fridge to chill. (You can pre-make everything just wait to do your avocados until last.)
That being said, take your diced avocados, leftover lemon/lime juice and mix lightly with a spoon. Let sit for 10 minutes in the fridge.
Finally, grab a plate (preferably chilled) as well as forks for service. Place the cookie cutter ring in the center. Add enough avocado mix to fill it about a ⅓ of the way. With a spoon, swipe down and around to settle it into place. Then, do the same with your crab but make sure to fill it up. Press down on the crab with gloved hands. Finally, using a spoon or your hands, press the crab and lift the cookie cutter ring up and away from the tartare. Complete this maneuver until you have created enough for yourself. Take the Yuzu mayo in your pastry bag, bottle or ziploc bag with the tip slightly removed and squeeze some onto your plate in any design or fashion you like. This is where you are the artist! Finally, finish it with the bull’s blood on top and sprinkle some orange zest around the plate to finish.
There you have it! You just created an absolutely gorgeous plate of food. A perfect appetizer for your next soiree.
