Everything carries energy, including the spaces we inhabit. Homes, especially, absorb the energy of those who live in and visit them. Stress, conflict, illness, or even prolonged periods of inactivity can cause the energy to stagnate or become dense, leaving the space feeling heavy or uninviting. For three decades, the three-day outdoor festival has brought more than 50,000+ locals and visitors together for a long weekend full of fantasy and medieval fun as Sunset Park is transformed into a magical wonderland. The Age of Chivalry is an immersive Renaissance era experience with numerous villages and guilds, activities, historical reenactments, fantasy creations, live performances, and an array of foods and beverages – truly an event that is fun for the entire family. Boo…. Halloween is almost here, and soon, we will see children running up and down the streets wearing masks. Yet, I would argue that most adults wear masks every day. Our mask could be the mask of a mother or father. Other people wear a mask to hide their emotional pain and try to put on a "normal mask" that shows no pain. This pain could be the loss of a loved one, a traumatic experience, or a deep-seated fear.
For years, I was the person who wore the mask to hide my childhood pain, and I never got a chance to be my vulnerable self because I was always afraid of being hurt. Thus, I never knew the "real me," as I had been hiding behind a mask for most of my life. But why do we, as adults, feel the need to wear these masks? Perhaps it's to meet society's expectations or protect ourselves from vulnerability. Whatever the reason, the reality is that most of us are never truly mask-free.
For example, if I were the CEO of a big company, I might have to lean into the traits of someone more authoritative, even though, by nature, I'm a laid-back person; the mask gives me the confidence to display a strong presence. However, when I arrive home, I must exchange that mask for the mask of a parent. When the kids go to bed, I exchange that mask for the mask of a spouse. When it is time for bed, and I am drifting off to sleep with my thoughts in my head, I think, who was I today? So, when do I get to be mask-free? Is my true self only in dreams?
Life happens so quickly, and we find ourselves wearing multiple masks. We often lose touch with ourselves and never see our true selves as we did in our youth. In our youth, we could spend hours with crayons and a coloring book and let our minds go free. Our true selves would color the dog bright blue until the world told us there was no such thing as a blue dog. Those were the times when we just wanted to play with anyone; we didn't care what they thought or believed in; we just wanted to be ourselves, play with toys, and have a good time in the presence of our peers.
I understand we cannot stay children forever; eventually, we must go to school and wear our first mask, the mask of a "good student." Some
of our peers learned to wear the mask of the teacher's pet or class clown. Unfortunately, there were people like myself who started wearing a mask to hide the pain that I had at home. Eventually, those kids who learned at an early age to wear a mask to hide pain became adaptable and wore whatever mask they needed just to survive because the pain was unbearable. Those survival skills of wearing many masks followed us into adulthood, and sometimes, the cost of wearing many masks is developing unhealthy coping skills.
Is there a place in our adulthood where we can put down all our masks and be our authentic selves without judgment? Our authentic self is the person we are when we are not influenced by societal expectations, past traumas, or the need to fit in. It's the person we were before we started wearing masks. I'm sure there are moments when we see ourselves, like when we get lost in a book or television show, yet is that really seeing ourselves, or is it inserting ourselves into someone else's entertainment vision? Do we just want moments of being our authentic selves, or should we always strive to be mask-free? There is no easy answer because life isn't easy. It constantly tests us to see how much we can handle, and sadly, wearing a mask makes life easier in the short term, but it can be costly in the long run.
As we get older, we get tired of wearing all the masks. We have had successful and unsuccessful relationships. Friends have come and gone, and we find ourselves in the twilight years and finally throw our masks in the garbage. However, because of our life experiences and unresolved issues, we might become bitter because we have worn masks for so long and don't know how to be our authentic selves. So, we are called cranky or cantankerous when we step outside into the community. We find ourselves labeled in society, and that's just as bad as wearing a mask.
It's crucial to find a balance between being our authentic selves and navigating life's challenges. One of the first steps is to check in with ourselves regularly. We need to be honest about the emotional pain and stress

we experience in our daily lives. It's okay to let things go and move forward. But most importantly, we must learn to be comfortable in our own skin and show compassion to ourselves and others. Self-compassion means accepting ourselves as we are, with all our flaws and imperfections. It's about being kind and understanding, even when we or others make mistakes. There was a time when I wore so many masks that I lost touch with my true self. It felt like I was walking in a stranger's shoes. This disconnection took a toll on my mental health, and I realized I needed help to rediscover my inner child and learn to put away the masks. It's a long journey of self-realization, and it's okay to seek help along the way.
Asking for help is not a weakness; we all ask for help at one point in our lives, and that's how we learn. Yet, many people forgo the help and wear masks of strength. While the mask of strength helps at the moment, if one wears it too long, it becomes heavy and might break us from the inside.
I no longer wear a mask; instead, I wear a veil. The veil helps just like the mask, but the key is that I can see my true self in the mirror, and I never want to lose sight of my authentic self again. When we are our authentic selves, it is easier to find inner peace and live the life we want without wearing a mask. The process of shedding masks and embracing our authentic selves is powerful, and it's a journey worth taking.

Bloom and Blossom is a locally owned and operated flower and events company. Whether you are looking for fun, flower arranging events or to simply purchase a handcrafted flower arrangement, Bloom and Blossom has you covered. We recently had the chance to connect with owner Brittany Hopkins to find out more about the business and why she decided to venture into the world of flowers.
Background
I come from a small family with two brothers, and growing up, I spent a lot of time outdoors, where my love for nature and flowers started. After working in corporate America as a project manager for several years, I decided to follow my passion and create Bloom and Blossom.
Why Flowers?
I’ve always loved the simple joy that flowers bring. Having a fresh bouquet in the room puts a smile on my face no matter what and for that brief second walking by, I’m able to think about nothing but how beautiful those flowers are. I enjoy the creativity of putting different flowers together, experimenting with colors and textures. Flowers are a way to express myself and share that happiness with others. Each arrangement becomes a little piece of my art, and that’s what makes working with flowers so fun for me.

Bloom and Blossom specializes in creating custom DIY bouquets and custom floral arrangements. We offer a wide range of fresh, seasonal flowers at farmers markets, giving customers the chance to curate their own bouquets or have me design something special for them. We also provide floral services for events like weddings, baby showers, and parties, ensuring each event is uniquely decorated with beautiful blooms.
Obstacles in Business?
Starting a small business always comes with its challenges. For me, it was figuring out how to balance creativity with the logistics of running a business— managing inventory, marketing, and building customer relationships. But every challenge taught me valuable lessons, and those lessons have helped Bloom and Blossom grow.
Business Advice
My biggest piece of advice is to stay passionate! It's easy to get overwhelmed in the early stages, but if you truly love what you’re doing, that passion will carry you through the tough times. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help and build a support network. Whether it's other small business owners, mentors, or even your customers, having a community around you makes all the difference.

STRESS: From Mind to Body to Life
We might not actually realize it, but something as simple as a thought can actually have a physical detriment to your body. Why, you ask? Well, the mind can rarely differentiate between ‘reality’ and ‘imagination’, so when you are thinking of a ‘worst case scenario’ and start to feel your heart pump harder, your emotions well up, and the pit of your stomach turn; you have actually initiated a chemical reaction within your body. That intangible thought actually turned tangible as it triggered stress hormones (such as cortisol or adrenaline) to get released into your blood which then set off a chain of physiological changes within your body.
It has taken some time, however science has shown how stress can cause a multitude of issues within the body, and many times can be the root of our issues. Stress comes in many forms. It can be environmental stress or even stress due to nutritional deficiencies.
This is why I always recommend a holistic approach to addressing the inevitable challenges of life, because it truly is a balance. Supporting yourself in as many ways as possible, with grace, patience, and education is the best approach. Supporting the various body systems to function optimally (this is where I advocate for utilizing the tools of nature) is ideal, and this discussion asks “What’s the Tea?” regarding Holy Basil.
What’s the Tea on: Holy Basil
Holy Basil, is a prized herb that is also known as Tulsi, a Hindi word that translates to “the incomparable one”. This perennial shrub of herbal wonder is known in traditional medicine globally with a history that is just as rich as the multitude of health benefits, making it a commonly accessible herbal remedy today.
Holy Basil, scientifically known as Ocimum sanctum or Ocimum tenuiflorum (both accepted), has a broad phytochemical composition that translates to the range of medicinal properties. Studies have shown it is rich in Rosmarinic Acid which has high levels of anti-inflammatory effects, potent support to reduce oxidative stress (often linked to chronic diseases). Eugenol is a compound that not only gives off the delicious earthy yet sweet aroma of Holy Basil, it also is responsible for its analgesic and anti-
inflammatory properties. This has been shown to potentially relieve pain within the body. Flavonoids also help neutralize free radicals in the body while the leaves are rich in Ursolic Acid, a compound that exhibits anti-cancer properties and supports metabolic health. These are also various vitamins and minerals found in the Holy Basil plant. It is anti-microbial and has been studied in vitro to have amazing impacts for disinfectant abilities even in mouthwashes and even hand sanitizers.
It’s mind blowing to learn about all the various benefits of such a pleasantly mild herb, however, above all these, Holy Basil is classified in the herbal community as an adaptogenic herb. This means it helps your body improve its general stress response.
Adrenal Glands
To understand what an Adaptogenic herb/plant can do, you must first understand the organs that it supports. There is something known as the HPA Axis, which includes the Hypothalamus, Pituitary gland, and Adrenal Glands that is a three-way communication system that is basically the headquarters for stress management. Interestingly enough, two of those (hypothalamus and pituitary) are in the brain (near the base of the skull) and the Adrenal glands which sit on top of the kidneys.
We will focus on the Adrenals which are the glands that are the final step in the HPA Axis. When faced with stressors (whether a physical shake up like an accident, a major traumatic event, or even an intrusive/negative/or false thought) the hypothalamus/pituitary in brain then activates the adrenal glands which release hormones such as cortisol or adrenaline, triggering one of the responses necessary for your safety/survival: fight or flight, freeze or fawn. When these types of experiences become prolonged, it can lead to weakened immunity, chronic inflammation, and other health related issues. When you feel burned out, whether that’s from a high stress environment, chronic issues, or a history of overuse of caffeine, it can often be a result of adrenal fatigue. Your adrenal glands are not only responsible for the emergency responses in the face of startling events, it is also responsible for giving you energy when it’s time to start your day, and sometimes that means it takes longer to actually feel fully awake.
This is where adaptogens, specifically Holy Basil, come in.
Resilience
I like to recommend starting with an herb like Holy Basil as a first choice when it comes to adaptogenic herbs, because it is a gentle yet effective option. I like to describe adaptogenic herbs as resilience supporting botanicals. As we know (and should know by now), there will always be stress in life, however our response is the main factor in how it impacts not only our minds, but our bodies, and in turn our life. There have been studies that show our perception will also have an impact on whether we see
something as a good stressor which is productive for our well being or something that can have a detriment, or momentary down side. The goal is to be able to manage these through improved coping strategies based on the environmental, physical, and/or emotional challenges, and sipping on some Holy Basil tea can be one tool in your toolbox. Cortisol is a stress hormone that when elevated it tends to disturb the metabolic function, digestion, and mood regulation. This can create a cycle of stress-related disorders or ranging levels of anxiety. When we recognize the compounds found within these plants can support our system, it’s a great step in the right direction.
Sip & Reset
Incorporating adaptogens into daily routines with some occasional breaks in between can support physical well being, mental clarity and strength, as well as improved emotional intelligence or resilience. When our bodies are in chronic fight or flight we are not able to get in tune with our emotional needs. So when acknowledging every part of ourselves as essential to the whole, we must address our base level needs of nervous system safety to get to the next level.
If it’s a matter of motivation, there have been countless testimonials of folks experiencing improved cortisol levels, which in turn support blood sugar regulation, as well as metabolic health and weight. Holy Basil is actually one of my favorite herbs, and the amazing part of it, even with mentioning its various botanic compounds and benefits, it is actually a very gentle herb that works almost subtly within the system. It is, in my opinion, delicious and can even be offered to children.

Holy Basil has been cultivated in India for thousands of years. It has been mentioned in ancient texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads, and has been emphasized and utilized also for its spiritual properties. It is considered a sacred plant and is found all throughout homes and temples across India. It is used in Ayurvedic medicine as well as Traditional Chinese Medicine. In TCM Holy Basil is called Sheng Lou Le, where it is recommended for the spleen, kidneys, and heart, while being described to help lift the Spirit and tonify yang energy within the body. practices, including treatments for respiratory disorders, stress relief, and digestive issues.
So more than just an herb, Holy Basil is a historical treasure of wisdom that offers therapeutic potentials backed by modern research to support its claims. As more people turn to trying more natural remedies, I love to suggest Holy Basil as a safe and supportive start to find some calm as we navigate life and the world we’ve all created, and continue to create; in this process let’s choose health, because your health benefits mine as well.

It's an energy that holds ground, a singular focus that gets sh*t done. Masculine energy, at its best, isn’t about control or domination; it’s about creating a space where things can flourish.
The same way that magnets attract each other when presented with opposite polarities, magic happens within the waltz between these two energies simply because they are opposite of each other. And the more distinct the energies, the more powerful the connection. The tension created by this duality is where passion lives. In my own life, it presents itself most potently when I allow space for my partner to step fully into his masculine energy, and support it with my feminine energy, though this will look differently for each couple. But when you get it right, the balance is intoxicating.
Transcending Gender Roles

nuanced. Each of us carries both energies, and it’s common for them to shift based on the needs of the moment. This concept also transcends gender and sexual orientation.
In relationships between two men, two women, or nonbinary partners, the dance of masculine and feminine energy still plays out because it’s not about biology, it’s about the energy you bring to the table. In a partnership between two men, for example, one may step into a more creative, intuitive role, while the other takes on the more action-oriented, driven energy. The polarity is still there, even if the outward appearance doesn’t conform to societal expectations of what “masculine” or “feminine” should look like. It’s a balance that empowers both partners, not by conforming to gender norms, but by understanding and respecting the power of these contrasting energies. At times, each partner may alternate between these archetypal forces, with one partner taking on the more masculine energy in one scenario and feminine in another. The beauty of this balance lies in its fluidity—it's not rigid or fixed, but responsive to the needs of both individuals. At the end of the day, the strength of the relationship doesn’t lie in how the world sees you but in how you show up for each other, and in how you recognize and balance these energies to create a passionate and fulfilling connection.
Conflicting Energies
What happens when two partners confront each other with the same energy at the same time? It’s not an entirely avoidable scenario, and I find that it occurs even in my own marriage. My husband and I often approach stressful situations with the same type of energy: masculine. This is not where my strength lies, and I know it, but in a momentary and instinctual response to stressors, I have been known to bulldoze his efforts and try to control the situation on my own. When I do this, our dynamic is anything but in sync. In time, I usually come to realize I’ve effectively shoved him out of his energy, stepped on his toes in the process, and created a power struggle instead of balance. And, in doing so, I’ve also abandoned my own zone of genius. When I finally step back into my flow—my feminine energy—it’s like turning the key in the ignition of our relationship. Suddenly, there’s space for him to rise to the occasion, and I’m often delightfully surprised at his innovative approach to the situation. For him, handling stressors instills further confidence in his ability to protect and problem-solve, and for me, witnessing him master his own zone of genius is sexy as hell. The more we’re able to support each other in this way, the more passion, trust, and connection we invite into our marriage.
Polarity is all about supporting each other’s strengths, making space for your partner to step into their own, and creating an environment where both energies can thrive. Passion lives in honoring what makes each of us, and our energies, so unique.

What's up everybody! I hope you enjoyed last month's recipe. This month, I finished harvesting “The Ranch Garden.” Got a bunch of celery, basil, carrots, parsnips and so much more. Took me half the day to finish cleaning it all. So, I decided to make celery salt. Now I'm going to share it with you. This can be kept in the freezer indefinitely in case you like preserving things like I do. Now, let's get to it.
Celery Salt
Ingredients:
Kosher or sea salt
Leaves of celery stalks
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat oven to 250° degrees and grab a sheet pan. Place some parchment paper on the sheet pan. Then, take your celery leaves and spread them evenly across the pan. I had a lot so I had 3 full sheet pans.
Next, you want to bake the leaves for around 25 minutes making sure that halfway through you stir them around. Once dried and crispy, immediately go to your food processor and place a 2:1 ratio of celery leaves to salt. Start mixing it with the food processor or spice grinder. When complete, your salt granules and celery should be completely mixed into smaller granules.
There you go, you just made homemade celery salt. Have a phenomenal month and as always, I am sending you some positive vibes!

Sin City is known for its expos. We have a show for everything under the sun, from home improvement to landscaping to selfimprovement to reptiles, and guns. We’ve got you covered. But unless you’re a herpetologist or a crazy gun nut, the most exciting expo you can attend in Las Vegas is the Oddities and Curiosities Expo at the World Market Center. The expo that mashes up halloween with the best parts of a freaky circus sideshow.
Every year in September, The Oddities caravan floats through town towing along with the most obscure, surreal, and frightening artists and collectors. If you’re imagining a shrieking swap-meet in hell, then you’re right on the money. This abnormal expo was founded in 2017 by Michelle and Tony Cozzaglio and will visit thirty-one cities in the United States and Canada plus 4 shows in Australia this year. Michelle points out, “We are the first and largest traveling expo that features oddities businesses and dark artists worldwide.”
Like a blissful fever dream, your brain will be scrambled with fearful delight as you loopty-loop around the show floor taking in all the dark art forms the expo has to offer. So what all will you discover, you ask? Well, not only will you find squeamish fan-art from your favorite horror movies, you’ll also uncover some elaborate, detailed, and gruesome paintings that will have you leaving your body with monstrous exhilaration. Prowl around from booth to booth as you search for the perfect item to fill the hole where your soul once was. There is trickery around every corner. Looking for shrunken head earrings? They have it, even if the head happens to be the head of a clown or mouse. Speaking of clowns… be forewarned, these cringy provocateurs pop out from every corner. Both in art form and physical form. Now for those afraid of the dead, you might cringe from the abundance of taxidermy, but you can put your mind at ease knowing that all vendors of the show are required to source sustainably. All deceased beasties are sourced from vet clinics, farms, sanctuaries, road kill, foraging, or antique/ vintage auction houses. Instead of just being tossed in a dumpster, the vendors give these creatures another purpose in the afterlife. Whether it's beautifully preserved in a jar, becomes a theatrical taxidermy mount, Frankenstein’d into a new hybrid monster, or used in an art piece; all are sustainably harvested.
Maybe the only dead stuff you are looking for is dead people's stuff. Well, there are booths for that too. Scavenge through odds and ends of mysterious items left behind from those who have crossed over to the other side. From prosthetic limbs to haunting black and white family photos, you’ll find your ghoulish goodies here. Whatever it is that you’re looking to dig up, plan ahead and set some money aside. There is no shortage of demented items you’ll want to add to your collection.
When you need a break from the haunted house of vendors, walk over to the stage and get right down in front for an unforgettable show from one of the side-show superstars, Boobzilla, the sword
swallowing bearded lady. The international comedian and stunt performer has dazzled audiences on TV and stages around the world. The Amazing Boobzilla is a multi disciplined phenom offering a One Weirdo Variety Show that will have you laughing your head off. Sometimes, literally.

The fascination and fear of snakes dates back to time immemorial. Owing to their lethality, snakes have often been associated with images of deception, treachery and death. However, snakes did not always have such negative connotations. The medicinal benefits of venom peptides have been known since ancient times, also making the snake a symbol of pharmacy and medicine.
Today, there is renewed interest in pursuing snake-venom-based therapies. Research suggests that minute doses of cobra venom can be superior to morphine in terms of pain relief. Snake venom showed a longer onset of action but possessed a longer duration of activity than traditional morphine. The action of the cobra venom peptides can be many times longer than that of opiates. Studies show cobra venom lasting up to six times longer than morphine!
Approximately 40 million American adults suffer from chronic pain, defined as pain that persists for 3 months or more. As the population of baby boomers ages, that number will increase too. For doctors, it is generally more challenging to treat chronic pain rather than acute pain, as side effects from many prescriptions and over the counter (OTC) painrelieving drugs pose a serious threat and health risks with long term use. The most common causes of chronic pain in America include: backaches, migraines, neuralgia, fibromyalgia, arthritis, cancer and repetitive stress injuries. The treatment for all this pain comes with a hefty price tag. According to the American Pain Society, the estimate cost of pain to the US economy is over 100$ billion, with 20 billion being spent directly on analgesics.
What is neuropathic pain?
Neuropathic pain is a chronic pain that results from a disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system. In patients with this type of pain, they experience abnormal sensations dubbed as dysesthesia or pain from normally non-painful stimuli (allodynia). Some patients may experience chronic pain, while others suffer from episodic attacks.
The condition affects peripheral fibers and central neurons, experienced by about 7 to 10 percent of the general population. There are many causes of neuropathic pain, including aging, diabetes mellitus, and chemotherapy.
At present, neuropathic pain is common but poorly treated. The management of the condition includes using tricyclic antidepressants or serotonin or noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). In some cases, patients receive tramadol or topical lidocaine, and in more severe patients, stronger opioids are used.
The condition dramatically impairs quality of life; hence, many studies focus on finding a promising treatment for chronic pain.
The newest therapy based on this research has resulted in the production of OTC products that contain varying amounts of neuroactive peptides. Most products are derived from Asian cobra venom. These products are proven to be safe and effective in reducing inflammation, relieving pain and treating certain medical conditions without the side effect profile of traditional therapies.

\ Pumpkin Spice Muffins (Infused)
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup gluten-free flour blend
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
0.5 tsp salt
1 cup coconut sugar
2 eggs (or flax egg for vegan)
0.5 cup infused coconut oil
PREPARATION:
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with paper liners. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients and combine. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and stir until combined. Divide the batter evenly into the muffin tin and bake for 20-25 minutes.
