BINSKE
n early 2013, Jake Pasternack began looking at opportunities to get involved in the cannabis space. At the time, he was in Los Angeles working in the entertainment sector. With a core area of expertise in the creation of intellectual property (building luxAury brands) and licensing that intellectual property, he took the principals he had learned in entertainment and applied them to the cannabis industry. It didn’t take long for his brother Alex to jump on board. Simply put, the pair felt that the highest standards for cannabis did not exist, so they set out to create them. Binske launched in 2015 in Colorado and has continued to grow at an exponential rate since its inception. Within the first 18 months in business, the brothers signed their first licensing deal and won Leafly’s Edible Brand of the Year award, which essentially put them on the map. Fast forward to today, and Binske is now a multi-state brand delivering an elevated experience to give every consumer a taste of the high life. I recently sat down with Jake and Alex to find out all about the Binske brand and what sets it apart from other brands within the industry. STEPHANIE SHEHAN: The Binske brand grew quite quickly. How many states are you in now? And, what states are you looking at next? ALEX PASTERNACK: Binske has developed a national following thanks to our artisanal packaging, proprietary strains, and purposefully sourced ingredients from across the globe. The proof is in the pudding: 2021 was a milestone year for us as we doubled our market count, growing on the production and distribution side (we entered California, Michigan and Washington). Right now, our comprehensive suite of more than 150 cannabis products are sold at close to five hundred retailers across Colorado, Nevada, Florida, California, Michigan and Washington. But of course, Binske is only getting started and has big plans for expansion. We have an aggressive strategy to enter at least three new markets across the U.S. in 2022, as well as international. SS: Tell me about the Binske name - where did it come from?

Giving Consumers a Taste of the High Life
JP: When crafting the Binske brand, we wanted our visual identity - from our product packaging to our website - to be stimulating, sophisticated, striking and alluring to the senses. We commissioned an iconic European artist to create a set of collages for us, which helped secure our position as a staple in the cannabis space. Our unique artistry has truly become the backbone of our brand aesthetic and elevates our product differentiation in a highly competitive space. SS: What types of products do you offer under the Binske brand? AP: Binske offers a full suite of cannabis products, with more than 150+ skus, from flower and edibles to concentrates and vapes, that enhance any consumer’s state of being. SS: What sets Binske products apart from other cannabis brands? JP: Our immaculate attention to detail and commitment to the highest quality consumer experience sets us far ahead of the status quo. At Binske, innovation is in our blood. When we first started making edibles, our competitors viewed raw food ingredients as a carrier for the high - simply put, most were solely focused on delivering THC to the consumer. Competitors at the time did not care about the quality of the raw ingredients being consumed. For Binske, research and development surrounding the quality of our ingredients has been a huge part of our competitive edge, guiding us to differentiate from the status quo industry in a meaningful way. We realized very early on those raw ingredients needed to be thoughtfully considered in development. We are continually driven by one single ambition: to make the best-tasting and highest quality cannabis products. It is why every single one of Binske’s farm-to-table products are made with artisanal ingredients from all over the world.
JAKE PASTERNACK: When my brother and I were growing up, we would refer to a joint as a Dubinsky. When I went to college, my entire circle of friends began using the word too, and overtime, the ‘Dub’ part was dropped, and it just became the word Binske. What can I say, it clearly stuck!
SS: With this being our annual food issue, we have to delve into the edibles you offer. In my opinion, the way you have managed to source chocolate and other food products really makes your edibles shine. Tell me about some of your premiere products and the ingredients that go into them.
SS: You have a beautiful aesthetic to your packaging. Tell me where the art came from and how it was developed.
AP: Our unmatched edibles have amassed a serious following that continue to win us awards. In fact, all of our chocolate products are made with one of the rarest, most prized varieties of cacao,

exclusively sourced by Binske from the heart of Peru. We also recently announced a new line of cannabis coffee products, where our chocolate bars – already on shelves in Nevada and beyond – infuse Intelligentsia Coffee beans as a key ingredient. Intelligentsia is a highly regarded specialty coffee brand on a never-ending quest for the most extraordinary coffee in the world – the synergies with the brands are crystal clear. Finally, we also offer flavor-packed, vegan gummies and extra virgin infused olive oil, made with freshly harvested olives from a certified organic farm in the Santa Ynez Valley of California. Ultimately, investing in our R&D process, combined with our commitment to innovation, has been critical. Consumer loyalty for Binske drives our expansion across new and existing territories. SS: Where can readers find Binske products here in Nevada? AP: Binske products can be found across the state on the shelves at top retailers including MedMen, Planet 13, Silver State Relief, Thrive, Pisos, NuLeaf, and Inyo. To find the closest retailer, readers should visit Binske.com. SS: What will we see from Binske in the future? JP: The future for us is quite simple: we will continue to develop innovative, world-class IP and allocate our resources towards enhancing consumer patronage by elevating consumer experience with our products. SS: Do each of you have a favorite strain and/or consumption method? JP: I am partial to the sweet, fruity genetics (Banana, Blueberry, Mango) and the gassy OG’s (Merovingian OG, Cleopatra OG). I am an old school type of consumer, and enjoy flower. Joints or ‘binskes’ with just a sprinkle of hash is my typical go to. AP: I use cannabis mostly for sleep, so I prefer heavy indicas. Currently using flower products more than vapes, but it’s come in waves. Our solventless hash line that’s being rolled out is insanely tasty, and I can’t get enough of it. SS: How can readers follow the Binske brand on social media? AP: We encourage readers to throw us a follow on Instagram (@binske) or visit our site at Binske.com.am keeping their spirit alive and reminding cannabis culture of its history.

Infused Cooking
Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014
with Local Chefs
CHRIS RODARTE Chris "Cannabushi" Rodarte has been traveling the country for the better part of a decade pursuing the mastery of sushi. Along the way he has been infusing cannabis into multiple types of cuisine from coast to coast. Now calling Las Vegas home, he has worked for multiple sushi restaurants like Sapporo, IzakayaGO, and Yellowtail inside The Bellagio. After working for Chef Akira Back and leaving Yellowtail, he decided to create his brand, CannaBushi. Cannabis-infused sushi allowed him the opportunity to publish the first THC/CBD infused dessert sushi roll recipe. While being a contributing writer with this magazine, he became a personal chef for the reality TV star Brett Raymer from "Tanked" on Animal Planet. Filming TV shows himself on Vuuzle.TV, Chris has been writing infused food recipes for two years now and is also a working partner with Brett Raymer in his new restaurant Stallone's Italian Eatery. Chris is a mobile chef offering multiple types of dinners, and freelance infusion for those who love THC in their sushi. Chris’ work with infused foods stems from his genuine passion for culinary, cannabis and the ability to treat various ailments through the magical plant we love. Stop by Stallone's Italian Eatery at 467 E. Silverado Ranch Blvd. Suite 125, say "high" and pick up a copy of the magazine.
CANNABUSHI’S INFUSED SESAME OIL INGREDIENTS: 2 cups sesame oil 2 oz. cannabis flower of your choice (premium bud preferred) 1 Magical Butter Machine and Decarb Box DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 235°, place your herb into the MB Decarb Box and don't worry about breaking it up. will ensure the process of decarboxylation has occurred. After the allotted time, quickly place the MB decarb box directly into the freezer for 30 minutes to cool. Once cooled and out of the freezer, place the decarboxylated cannabis into a Magical Butter Machine for 6 hours at 160°. After the cycle completes, strain into a large Pyrex measuring cup and allow to cool to room temperature. Place in a dark container and keep in the cupboard for two months or the fridge for four. There you have it, a quick and easy infused sesame oil that has a bite!
MEAGHAN GLOVER Meaghan Glover became a chef at just 22 years of age. It started with a pumpkin roll and just snowballed from there. She has since chosen to work with infused foods because she believes it’s a great way to heal yourself if you are unable to smoke. She adds that, as a chef, when infusing, you have the ability to make things very potent and it’s a great sleeping and pain aid. Meaghan also enjoys coming up with new recipes to infuse. She is currently an at-home baker and bake for others from time to time. Follow her on Instagram @ Y3rawizard.

Whisk the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl. Using a handheld or stand mixer, beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together in a large bowl on mediumhigh speed until combined and creamy, takes about 2 minutes. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, then beat on medium-high speed until combined. Scrape down the sides and up the bottom of the bowl as needed. Beat in the dry ingredients on low speed, then beat in the chocolate chips until combined. You will have thick dough. Divide dough into 6 portions (or just normal size if you’d like.) Each will be a 1/2 cup and weigh a little over 6 ounces. Shape each into a mound, Place two on each baking sheet, at least 6 inches apart. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until edges and top are lightly browned. The center will look super soft, but it will set as the cookie cools. Cool the cookie on the baking sheet for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. These will be enormous, but so good.

Budtender of the Month
>>>INTERVIEWS BY rocky hernandez jorrell ellis
Las Vegas
STEPHEN CALLAHAN Budtender at MEDIZIN Stephen Callahan is a veteran in the cannabis industry. He’s put in work on the cultivation side of the industry, now you can catch him budtending at Medizin in Las Vegas, Nevada. Stephen has a genuine love for the plant and uses it to compliment his healthy lifestyle. What was your first industry job? I first started my career in the cannabis industry at Cannacopia in 2016 when Nevada was only medically legal in our state. I mainly did budtending and reception while I was there. Do you use cannabis for medical/health reasons or just recreationally? I use cannabis for both medical and recreational purposes. But I find that the two intertwine because I rather enjoy using the product to stay healthy. If cannabis is ever federally legalized, what’s one thing you hope comes along with that? If cannabis was to become federally legalized I would love to see a home growers license in which you could grow your own, have it tested, and dispense at local markets and cannabis events. What are some of your interests outside of budtending? Some of my interests outside of work are artsy, indoor rock climbing, hiking, hanging out with my cat, and cooking food with my family.
26
What was the last product you saw and knew you had to buy it immediately? The last product I saw and absolutely had to grab was an 8th of MAC flower by Green life Productions. What’s your favorite topic/subject to educate customers on? My favorite topic to keep customers up to date on is definitely terpenes and how important it is to find what works for you when it comes to purchasing flower What do you enjoy most about budtending? Assisting a patient in finding something that might help and then it does. Being able to help someone replace prescriptions and find relief. What kind of products would you recommend for a new consumer? I would recommend a low potency sativa hybrid flower so they would have a fun time without the anxiety/paranoia factor that high THC flower can sometimes produce with new cannabis users. What’s your favorite way to consume? My favorite way to consume cannabis is hits from a bong. What HAVE You been smoking on? I’ve currently been consuming Growers Circle RSO, MAC flower from GLP, Irene flower from Medizin, and GG4 flower from Medizin.

JAKE NORKETT dive into concentrates, whether it's explaining the processes of extraction or matching them with the perfect consistency.
Budtender at SIERRA WELL Jake Norkett is a budtender at Sierra Well in Reno, Nevada. Jake takes pride in finding the right products for his patients and uses his awesome customer service to keep them coming back. What was your first industry job? I first got into the industry in 2018, I was a consultant at Kanna in Sun Valley, Nevada. Do you use cannabis for medical/health reasons or just recreationally? More so, recreational but if I stopped consuming cannabis, I wouldn’t sleep or eat half as much. If cannabis is ever federally legalized, what’s one thing you hope comes along with that? I’d love to see health insurance cover costs or provide for the medical patients, but I think we might get a Stiiizy Super Bowl ad before that. What are some of your interests outside of budtending? If I’m not working, I’m either walking my dogs on the river or going through some sports cards. I got pretty big into collecting with my grandma when I was a kid and it never really wore off.
What do you enjoy most about being a budtender? I definitely can say I enjoy everything about being a budtender. I get paid to learn and talk about weed all day, but I would say it’s most rewarding to supply customers with products and know that it brings so much visible relief, and happiness to so many people from different walks of life. What types of products would you recommend for a new consumer? With newcomers, I feel it’s important to get them started with something simple and easy that’s going to give them the experience they’re hoping for. With there being so much variety of pre-rolls in particular, it is usually an easy task to find one that will produce the effects they want, give them a great first cannabis experience, and make them want to come back. What’s your favorite way to consume? Since I bought my Puffco it’s been my go-to, but a pre-roll is always nice when I’m walking the dogs. What have you been smoking on? Right now, some Modified Bananas from Shango and some Growers Circle OG Chem Sauce from MPX.
What was the last product you saw and knew you had to buy it? The Hustler by Culture and Cannabis What’s your favorite topic/subject to educate customers on? I really enjoy helping customers that are looking to

THE NEED FOR CONSUMPTION LOUNGES with Insight from Assemblyman Steve Yeager Millions of cannabis users who visit the mecca of legal marijuana that Las Vegas has truly become since Question 2’s passing, are undeniably excited for the eventual opening of cannabis consumption lounges here in Sin City. However, there are public safety matters that must be addressed. In the same vein as establishments serving alcohol, there are concerns about overconsumption, patrons being allowed to drive after consuming at the lounge location or not and because this is Las Vegas, the added factor of possibly millions of tourists every year coming to these historic locations. And because a simple five-minute stroll down Fremont Street (or almost any casino on the Strip) will prove that not everyone who visits Las Vegas can handle their intoxicants, a good amount of these public safety concerns are valid. Along with forming the Social Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Committee for the still in utero consumption lounge program, the Cannabis Compliance Board also formed the Public Safety Committee to address those very concerns. As opposed to their regulatory predecessors, having a regulatory body that focuses only on cannabis could be beneficial for the consumption lounge program. Having groups covering subjects and concerns about the impact of the lounge program certainly shows thoroughness in creating the regulations and rules, at least. Being instrumental in the creation and eventual passing of the consumption lounge-creating Assembly Bill 341 (and that’s after years of serving as a public defender and Assemblyman), District 9
28
Yeager says it’s refreshing to know that public safety is being considered extensively in relation to the implementation of consumption lounges, proof the lounge program isn’t being as rushed out the door as the legalization of recreational cannabis was.
Assemblyman Steve Yeager was a very fitting candidate to be the chairman of the Public Safety Committee created by the CCB. Being the author of the very bill that kicked off the entire discussion surrounding cannabis lounges in a city absolutely saturated by countless other adult entertainment options, Yeager’s continued presence in the Cannabis Advisory Commission’s committees and activities in crafting those regulations is an extremely valuable one. “When we discussed the consumption lounge bill in the Legislature,” Yeager recalled, “public safety was something that came up over and over as a concern, mostly from law enforcement but also some legislators, as well. The notion of ‘how are we going to make sure public safety isn’t impacted in a negative way by consumption lounges’. The CCB thought it would be useful to get some of the perspectives and questions answered and debated then ultimately have some regulations around public safety.”
The concerns brought up by the public and by committee members were varied but not dissimilar to the concerns always brought up when a state is soon to legalize cannabis. Impaired driving, risk mitigation, overconsumption concerns, possible consumption limit rules and whether people could leave with unused product and another concern specific to the lounges. And a concern relevant towards other members assembled on the Public Safety Committee. Detective Josh Garber of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department also served on the committee. Although the Texan in me was surprised to see esteemed members of law enforcement supporting cannabis to this extent, the voices of law enforcement officers is important as they’ll be the individuals likely responding to calls of disruption at the eventual lounges. They’ve dealt with every type of raucous situation of debauchery on the Strip involving someone over consuming all kinds of substances,so their experience and input is equally valued in regards to public safety and the occasional unpredictability of those who can’t handle their level of intoxicants. If law enforcement officers responded to calls of great importance or one that greatly violated the regulations, would they be able to shut down

operations and temporarily or perhaps permanently revoke a license? And although AB 341 only officially authorized the lounges towards the end of the 2021 Legislative Session, Las Vegas has technically had a preview of what a functioning consumption lounge would operate like with the cannabis Tasting Room at Nuwu since 2019 at the earliest. Because Nuwu is on Paiute tribal land, they can operate slightly differently and as a result, we’ve seen how such a lounge would operate in a city with a flourishing tourism and cannabis industries. Yeager visited the Nuwu store and Tasting Room recently to speak with the employees there about the experience of running a consumption lounge in Vegas. “I went in there around November or December just to have them walk me through their setup and how they did it. I thought it was enlightening to see it all in action. I was pretty reassured to learn that they had almost no issues with customers there. Very few times have they had to ask someone to leave because they thought they were being inappropriate so it was nice to see that. For me, I think it was reassuring that this can work and all of these ‘monsters in the closet’ of worst-case scenarios are unlikely to happen.” The law enforcement involvement in the Public Safety Committee runs deeper than Detective Garber’s involvement. Assemblyman from the 13th District and fellow member of the Public Safety Committee Tom Roberts served a total of 25 years as an LVMPD officer. While ancillary-related to onthe-ground law enforcement but still
of just as substantial of importance, Director of the Department of Public Safety George Togliatti also served on the committee dedicated to discussing the exact field that he’s the director of for The Silver State. “I think it was valuable to have that perspective for the committee from law enforcement. They brought up some issues we haven’t thought about since they're more on the dayto-day, having to respond to calls, so I think it was helpful.” Yeager said that unlike police officers in Southern states, the representatives from law enforcement were incredibly receptive and agreed to provide their insight into how to make these consumption lounges the most secure in terms of public safety. “When the law enforcement officials were able to bring up concerns, we were able to look into other states to see how frequent those concerns were. Overall, I thought it was productive and they were very reasonable and brought what I thought were very legitimate, realistic concerns to the table.” Ideally, these lounges would provide the many consumers who use publicly a safe place to consume a variety of products instead of consuming openly in public. Anyone walking down the Strip or Downtown would be able to smell cannabis just about anywhere, so the incoming lounges would hopefully provide a spot and a social atmosphere for cannabis consumers to use away from those who may be less than positively receptive about open public consumption. It would be economically advantageous as well and a further stream of revenue for the city’s
juggernaut of a tourism industry with a tourist count that I’m personally elated to report is higher than Disney World. The other regulations discussed by the Public Safety Committee were very similar to the regulations created pertaining to retail dispensaries in Nevada- those being advertising regulations and how exactly a lounge is allowed to market their venue, making sure consumption can’t be seen directly from passersby on the street and exactly what training programs employees at consumption lounges must go through. Although Yeager would’ve hoped to have some consumption lounges open by now, he also admits that the speed of government is the antithesis of the speed of a roadrunner. As such, it’ll be a few more months until Las Vegans truly see cannabis consumption lounges come into fruition. “We’re getting close to the end of it. I’m still hopeful that once we get these regulations out and open businesses, we’re going to have some that are wildly successful. I believe in the creativity of people who want to open these lounges to come up with really great concepts that are going to be attractive and are going to attract people, tourists and locals alike. I’m still hopeful that we’re going to get this right and I’m very excited to see which one will open first.”

INFUSED ani Baranowski is the Brand Manager of Las Vegas based City Trees. Having been a City Trees consumer for years, Dani jumped at the opportunity to join the team. Her passion for cannabis advocacy and community engagement aligned perfectly with the focus of City Trees as a company which creates an array of high quality products and is geared toward elevating and “sustaining your state,” whichever state that is; mentally or physically. City Trees focuses on giving back from where they take from, which results in a brand committed to making a difference in our surroundings- a portion of all proceeds go to the Arbor Foundation and they intentionally source products from socially and ethically conscientious companies as best they can, even if it costs a bit more. I had the chance to meet with Dani to chat about City Trees and the products they offer. STEPHANIE SHEHAN: I love the name City Trees, how did that name come about? DANI BARANOWSKI: City Trees was conceived with the intention of bridging the gap between the city and trees. Of course the name is ripe for puns, as is relevant to everyone, as any person in ANY city in Nevada that has cannabis, has its own “City Trees.” SS: What types of products does City Trees offer?

DB: Our innovation lab creates high quality extracts in multiple forms - from full gram cartridges to dab applicators and tinctures, from distillate to live resin. Our team is made up of cannabis consumers that are passionate experts that continue to create products that authentically speak to

consumers. Our tinctures come in a variety of potencies - one of our most popular tinctures is our 1:1:1 which is CBD:THC:CBG - CBG is another cannabinoid that has shown very promising medicinal properties, backed by studies, for glaucoma, certain cancers, IBD, and as a protectant for those with Huntington’s Disease. SS: You guys offer an amazing array of tinctures, tell me about them. DB: City Trees tinctures are all natural and are extracted from cannabis and the blue agave plant, they are low-glycemic, and a diabetic friendly sweetener that has a honey-like consistency and are a great alternative to sugars or sweeteners. They are water soluble, making it easy to mix in any food or drink. They are formulated to be effective against insomnia, and are balanced, offer mild effects, as well as vegan, gluten free, cruelty free. We make them in a variety of potencies to best suit what you need from your cannabis experience. We recently partnered with a local Nevada company, Dark Moon Coffee Roasters that aligns with our values of quality over compromise to make a new product, Espresso Chocolate Agave - it goes without saying that this could be used as a dessert compliment or you could add it to anything to make a dessert.
SS: Any suggestions on pairing/ using certain tinctures in different recipes?
SS: Since this is our annual edible issue, I thought it might be cool to give readers some tips on using your tinctures to infuse food at home. Any tips you can offer?
DB: Tinctures and other City Trees products are available in every part of the state of Nevada, from Wendover to Las Vegas. If you go to our website citytrees. com you can order City Trees online (you don’t have to leave your house) delivered by your local dispensary! We are also available for medical patients in New Mexico.
DB: Our tinctures are nano-emulsified so they easily pair well with liquids and sauces, some easy ideas are smoothies, fruit juices, and salad dressings. Baking and confections are easy to incorporate tinctures into the recipe as a sweetener alternative. Tinctures are a great option for anyone looking for healthier, sugar free, edibles or medicated foods - as you can modify any part of your normal diet to get cannabis infused foods.
DB: Absolutely! We have recipes on our Instagram to keep the inspiration rolling. We have recipes for BBQ sauce, chocolate mousse, orange creamsicles (created by our local favorite, Chef Garza), grilled peach vinaigrette, and post workout shakes. Tincture mocktails are an option for those who choose not to drink alcohol but still want to enjoy an event! We have a recipe for a City Trees Mojito, but really any delicious drink could be transformed into a mocktail. I could go for a Strawberry-Canna-Daquiri right now! SS: Where can readers purchase the City Trees tinctures and other products?
SS: How can readers follow City Trees on social media? DB: Find us on instagram: @citytreesnv and our website citytrees.com

ENHANCING YOUR SEX LIFE
with Your Five Senses - and Cannabis
When people want to have better sex, they often turn to gimmicks like new lingerie, a sex toy, or using some sexual media (like erotica). While these things can help, you don’t always have to spend money to have better sex. It may sound simple, but it’s true: improving your sex life is as easy as focusing on your five senses. Adding cannabis can take a ho-hum experience and make it over-the-top. SENSES AND MINDFULNESS When you focus on your five senses, you get the knock-on benefit of improving your arousal at the same time. Focusing on how your body feels, including what you are seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching, helps you stay present in the moment. It keeps your mind from wandering to your to-do list and instead focuses on the sensations your body experiences. This is why cannabis can help with mindfulness, too. It helps reduce the noise inside your head and allows you to enjoy what’s currently happening. So, let’s break down the senses one by one and talk about how to augment their involvement during sex. TASTE There are so many ways to play with your sense of taste in the bedroom. You could feed each other aphrodisiacs, try some flavored lube, or play with edible body paint. One of the amazing side effects of cannabis is that it makes food taste so much better. Neuroscientists have found that THC actually increases the pleasure you feel when eating foods by increasing the amount of dopamine released when you’re eating something tasty. So, for the full experience, choose a strain that increases your appetite, and notice the difference it makes.

TOUCH Your sense of touch is oh-soimportant, and never more so than when you’re close to your partner. To emphasize your partner’s pleasure from your sense of touch, you could give them a soothing back massage before the next time you get intimate. Using a CBD massage oil can help them sink even further into a deep state of relaxation. Cannabis can dramatically affect your sense of touch, which is why it’s so helpful when it comes to chronic pain conditions. Scientists continue to study exactly why and how cannabis affects our sense of touch, but it’s been lauded for its ability to reduce pain without giving you a numbing feeling. Since it is an analgesic, it’s perfect for trying new positions which may not typically be available to you if you have sore muscles or joints. Just make sure you try them safely and don’t overdo it—or you’ll be sore the next day! SMELL Your sense of smell is often disregarded as a component of arousal—but it’s very important. Consider how much of a turnoff bad smells are. They can take an otherwise erotic experience and make it impossible to have sex. Enticing smells do just the opposite, so it’s important to learn what your partner’s olfactory likes and dislikes are. Cannabis plays a major role in your sense of smell. In fact, cannabis amplifies your sense of smell so much that it’s credited as being the reason you get munchies! When centering your sense of smell before sex, you may want to choose a strain of cannabis that has delicious smelling terpenes. Terpene scents span a wide range from citrusy to sweet to skunky, so what you choose will depend on
the scents you and your partner enjoy the most. If you’re new to that process, feel free to ask a knowledgeable budtender to recommend something particularly aromatic to you. HEARING What you hear can be such a turn-on, so it’s a shame to have silent or eerily quiet sex. If you want to ramp up your auditory arousal, consider making a sexy playlist you can turn on next time you plan to have sex. Listen and encourage the sounds that happen innately during sex, like the sound of your voice, deep breathing, and quickening heartbeats. Tuning into these naturally occurring sounds can deepen both of your enjoyment. Cannabis doesn’t always play a significant role in your sense of hearing, although it is being studied for its healing effects on people with tinnitus. However, since cannabis can help you relax, you may feel more comfortable making noise or talking dirty in bed—which can be a huge libido booster. SIGHT Sight is the sense most frequently associated with sexual arousal. Even though it’s popular, you can still improve its function in the bedroom. When you enhance sight, it’s important not to consider only how you look but how your surroundings look as well. For example, is your bedroom ideal for intimate activities? If not, make some changes. Seduce your partner’s sense of sight by setting the area up for romance. Don’t turn on a harsh, overhead fluorescent light. Instead, light some candles, wash the sheets, make the bed, and tidy the area. Make it look like a place you’ll both be excited to make love in.
Removing a sense can help heighten your other senses, as well. If your partner is game, try incorporating a blindfold to remove their sense of sight, and their other senses will come into sharp relief. This works especially well when heightening their sense of hearing or touch, so be sure to use some of those tips if you’re using a blindfold. Adding cannabis can make activities like this extra intense, so make sure you choose a strain that doesn’t make you feel paranoid. Trying the strain of cannabis in advance is always a good idea so that you can ensure you feel relaxed and happy while using it rather than on-edge or overly sleepy. Wana’s partnership with SRENE further boosts the brand’s visibility while building on SRENE’s stellar reputation among Nevada cannabis connoisseurs. Effects typically last between 3-4 hours, making for a great time at the casino or a show without the concern of lingering effects. This month, Nevada residents can sample Wana Quick Fast-Acting Gummies in an irresistible collection of happy hour-inspired flavors that are perfectly suited for quickly lifting spirits without the hangover that often comes with alcohol consumption. Wana Quick Fast-Acting Gummies harness Thermodynamic Individual Molecular Encapsulation (TiME), a new quick-onset technology from Azuca, to deliver an experience similar to smoking cannabis with Delta-9-THC effects hitting within 15 minutes and lasting from two to four hours. This new technology sets Wana Quick Fast-Acting Gummies apart from traditional edibles that convert Delta-9-THC in the digestive tract to 11-Hydroxy-THC, taking up to two hours before effects are felt, with those effects lasting much longer. As well as being terpene advanced, these gummies also stand apart by what they do not contain: no high-fructose corn syrup, sorbitol or mineral oil here... Just pure bliss!

EFFEX Cinnamon Churro Square
CITY TREES Blue Agave Tincture
I’ve had City Tree tinctures in the past but I must say, this Blue Agave is the truth! I had previously heard some folks rave about this flavor, but I was kinda done with Agave until this. It put me out! I started to feel more and more relaxed after consuming it until I woke up the next morning on my own, no alarm, fully rested. The taste is great! Perfect for tea, sauce, and even meat but I just sipped it on its own.

Or just chomp it up dry if that's how you choose to fly. It softens up nicely after a couple of chews.

ENHANCING CANNABIS with food Cannabis is infamous for enhancing our appetites, but did you know the food we eat can enhance our cannabis? Terpenes are responsible for a plant’s aromatic and flavor qualities and are packed with medicinal properties we can harness even more through the foods we eat alongside our favorite strains. Anecdotal research has shown eating a terpene-rich food roughly 45 minutes prior to consuming our terpene rich cannabis can augment the effects! That’s right, having a tasty meal, fruit, or even a cup of tea before we toke can make the cannabis work better! There are eight main terpenes recognized in North America. They are myrcene, terpinolene, ocimene, limonene, pinene, humulene, linalool, and caryophyllene. You may recognize these terpenes from your favorite cannabis. Now let’s pair our favorite strains with delicious foods to boost the effects even more!
Myrcene: Myrcene is a common terpene we see in cannabis and
one you most likely have consumed while watching your favorite sports team win, sipping on a brew. Yes, you read that right- beer has myrcene through hops. It is also found in lemongrass, mangos, thyme, cardamom, chamomile, bay leaves, and guava melon. Myrcene has been used as traditional medicine in the way of plants and herbs for many years. In countries where lemongrass is native, residents would chew lemongrass stalks as a way to improve dental health, and to keep their mouth feeling fresh. Strains: OG Kush, Blue Dream, Grape Ape Recipe Ideas: Mango Salsa, Pureed Mango in a Smoothie or Popsicle, Lemongrass or Chamomile tea, Roasted Potatoes with Thyme
Caryophyllene: Most kitchens in America have a pepper grinder
or shaker readily available to spice up any dish, and it can also boost our caryophyllene rich cannabis. This powerful terpene is also in rosemary, oregano, basil, black caraway, cinnamon, clove,

hops, and lavender. Caryophyllene has been used medicinally through herbs as early as Egyptian times. Oregano was commonly used as an herbal remedy for flu, coughs, and colds. Strains: Chemdog, Bubba Kush, Sour Diesel Recipe Ideas: Black Pepper Chicken, Spaghetti, Cinnamon Applesauce, Golden Milk Latte
Limonene: A refreshing glass of lemonade is perfect to stay
cool on a hot summer day, and also a great drink to have prior to consuming our favorite limonene strains. Limonene is most prominently found in citrus fruit and rinds, and can also be found in plants like rosemary, fennel, and mint. In Chinese folk medicine they used dried citrus to treat indigestion and bloating, harnessing the gastrointestinal support of limonene. Strains: Banana OG, Lemon G, Mandarin Cookies Recipes Ideas: Lemon Chicken, Roasted Fennel, Lemon and Mint Teas, Lemon Bars
Linalool: A glass of mint water is always refreshing and a perfect drink to sip on before we smoke our favorite linalool strains. It can also be found in lavender, coriander, cinnamon, and peanut stems and leaves. In traditional Brazilian medicine, mint tea brewed from the mint species hyptis crenata was used to relieve pain and soothe upset stomachs, fevers, and headaches. Strains: Durban, Red Haze, Lavender Recipe Ideas: Lavender Lemonade, Chia Pudding with Cinnamon, Watermelon Salad with Fresh Mint, Mint Tea
Ocimene: Ocimene is a terpene that is often on our plates when
we eat in a restaurant, as a garnish of delicious fresh parsley. Also found in mint, lavender, hops, black pepper, mangos, kumquat, and tarragon, plants with ocimene have been used for centuries as medicine. Tarragon was used in Ancient Greece to relieve toothaches and tarragon tea is a popular French drink that is considered effective in relieving insomnia and hyperactivity symptoms. Strains: Strawberry Cough, Space Queen, Sour Diesel Recipes Ideas: Mint and Tarragon Teas, Kumquat Jam on Toast, Yogurt Bowl garnished with Mangoes or Kumquats, Creamy Tarragon Chicken
Terpinolene: A bowl of chili or curry always warms us up, and

pairs perfectly with our favorite Terpinolene strains, being found in cumin, a popular spice in Indian cuisine as well as chili. In the Ayurvedic system of medicine in India, cumin holds immense medicinal value particularly given to help with digestive disorders. Besides cumin, you can also find terpinolene in nutmeg, apples, sage, rosemary, and allspice. Strains: Pineapple Kush, Super Lemon Haze, Royal Jack Automatic Recipe Ideas: Chili, Curry, Baked Apple, Homemade Fries with Rosemary
Pinene: Salty snacks like pickles are always satisfying, but did you know they also are a perfect treat before a high pinene strain of cannabis? Pinene can be found in herbs like dill, parsley, basil, rosemary, sage, as well as citrus rinds and pine nuts. Dill has been used medically for thousands of years, traditionally for treating stomach ailments, colic, hiccups, bad breath, and flatulence. Strains: Jack Herer, Dutch Treat, Blue Dream, OG Kush Recipes: Pickles, Fish with Dill, Pesto, Salad with Pine Nuts
Humulene: A warm delicious ginger snap cookie is a familiar treat, especially before we consume our favorite humulene strains. Humulene can be found in ginger, clove, black pepper, ginseng, basil, hops, sage, and spearmint. Ginseng is a popular medicinal herb used in both Native American and Chinese traditional medicine. Many Native American tribes use ginseng as a health stimulant and to help with digestive problems, headaches, fever, earaches, and more.

SARAH RUSSO, AUTHOR
Herbs for the Apocalypse
BY SHARON lETTS “We’re wreaking havoc on our ecosystem,” she laments. “The planet is in revolt. We live in trying times but we also have an invaluable collection of tools to collectively cope, heal ourselves, and build resilience in order to face what is to come.” A longtime plant enthusiast, Russo received a degree in environmental studies and social justice, with a focus on botanical medicine from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Today, she makes her home in Spain.
Sarah Russo, pens on her website, “While imperialism, capitalism, and oppressive systems have evolved and penetrated the very core of our experience, plants prevail in our psyche in profound ways.” Educated words coming from the daughter of renowned cannabinoid researcher and neurologist, Dr. Ethan Russo. “My mother was a nurse and my grandfather and uncle were veterinarians,” she shared. “At one time I thought I wanted to work with animals, but I was drawn towards environmental studies and eventually became a self-taught herbalist.” Her work in progress, “Herbs for the Apocalypse,” is a graphic novel with a dead serious topic- empowering earth’s inhabitants in the face of environmental degradation. The work gives voices to beneficial plants as its heroine grapples with the destruction of the earth, and the realization that plants can save us. Russo says she encourages a connection with nature, because we desperately need it.

Daily Dose
Her day job as a freelance writer, researcher, consultant, and editor, gives her more than 13 years of experience in the cannabis and herbal medicine space. She’s fierce in fighting for the right of humans to use plants as remedy, for spiritual practices and for healing the earth. Drawing from the therapeutic wisdom of the plant, fungi, and animal kingdoms, Russo guides her readers through Herbs for the Apocalypse, preempting, “Plants and punk rock collide in a tale of apocalyptic reckoning, explored in a graphic novel of resilience and resistance in trying times.”
Plant Defender The Herbs for the Apocalypse website is naturally loaded with information on herbs, with recipes and anecdotal stories on some of the most demonized superplants on the planet including cannabis, kratom, and fungi. Push back is a given, as Russo educates on kratom , a tropical evergreen from the same family as coffee, used as a harm reduction tool, weaning people off opiates, mitigating the symptoms of withdrawal. Humans are good at bastardizing beneficial plants, as witnessed with the
super beneficial, and fatigue-combatting plant, Coca - otherwise known for its byproduct of cocaine. Another article is titled, “Is Cannabis Psychedelic? Let’s Go Deeper,” as she expounds on the plant as a tool for expanding consciousness. Begging the question, “Does its ability to enhance visual, auditory, and sensational experience warrant a definition of it as a psychedelic?” Not just a cup of herbal tea within these pages, but plants as serious remedies for what ails us, as well as posing tough questions and taking a stance with another article penned, “Our Symbiotic History with Mushrooms & Our Right to Use them.”
Hello, Oxygen Breathers Videos within her feed have Russo in a field of wildflowers welcoming viewers, “Hello, oxygen breathers,” as she discusses what herbs help with trauma. “Adaptogens combat stresses,” she explains. “Chamomile is a favorite de-stressor, Tulsi is a favorite of mine, and has been said to also deal with ancestral trauma.” Ancestral trauma isn’t something commonly discussed by the masses, but Russo digs deep when speaking of plants and their ability to cross over into many of our biological and neurological systems. Is your soul in distress? No matter, there’s a plant for that. Another video with herbalist and botanical artist, Katy Able, has them discussing plants you might want with you if you were stranded on a desert island (or facing the apocalypse). Many plants that boost the immune system are discussed, as well as ingesting nutritive herbs, otherwise known
Nevada's Original Cannabis Resource // Since 2014
as superfoods. Superfoods are any beneficial plant with myriad compounds able to address all of our biological systems and many ailments. (see Daily Dose, Superfoods, Super Plants, Super Healthy!) The top ten suggested plants for an apocalypse can be found within the pages of the graphic novel. To offer a hint, Russo has depicted all 10 on the cover. For a sneak peek, watch the animated Herb Monologues on the Herbs for the Apocalypse YouTube channel. Regional herbs are also discussed. Many super plants that pop up around the world in many climates, are often thought of as weeds. They are actually there because we need them. It’s a symbiotic relationship we as humans need to find again. “Nettles and dandelion can be found just about anywhere, and both are highly advantageous for many ailments. It’s just too bad we pull them from the ground by medicinal roots,” she added.
Purposeful Plant Use Russo suffers from two chronic health issues, an undiagnosed digestive disorder and polycystic ovary syndrome, both helped with the use of cannabis and other plant based remedies. One doctor she consulted with for cannabis told her that her longtime use probably quelled many of the symptoms, and that she may have presented much worse without it. That said, she doesn’t solely rely on cannabis for her daily dosing, and in fact, found it necessary at one point to take a break. “I’ve been using cannabis half my life at this point,” she shared. “I don’t normally smoke for work, but one day recently I was nervous about a particular meeting online, so I took a couple of hits. It was awful, and made me more uncomfortable. I came to the realization that it isn’t cannabis’ job to fix the problem I was having. It was mine.” Cannabis, she said, is a diva and can sometimes upstage other parts of your experience. The break was needed for clarity.
“Cannabis is good at doing so many things, but when I took a step back without it, I was able to tune into subtleties. At times, cannabis can blast you into a different consciousness,” she said. From the Cannabis Clinicians website, Russo pens, “Modern day studies have repeatedly found that active constituents of single plant species are not as effective as multiple formulations composed of various botanicals. This may be why certain cultures have historically employed holistic herbal formulations, as opposed to single plant remedies. It has also been shown that human populations that consume a diet rich in plants view diseaseprevention as a way of life.” Russo said she’ll smoke in the evening to unwind, or to quell a specific symptom. But most of her use now is as needed and purposeful. Her most consistent daily dosing comes from the garden to the kitchen, as she uses rosemary, thyme, and an abundance of beneficial plants as the season dictates. She’ll also add blood-sugar lowering cinnamon often, as well as other favorites for teas and tinctures, including tulsi and chamomile for calm, and blue lotus for entering into a meditative state - as she works with various plant medicines in a ceremonial context. “Science may never be able to elucidate on the true healing capacity of botanical medicine,” she explained in an article on Graphic Medicine.com. “That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t try to find scientific discoveries to benefit our health. But research shouldn’t discount the energetic, vibrational, and spiritual aspects of the natural world.”
Herbs for the Apocalypse, The Graphic Novel Herbs for the Apocalypse was first presented to the public as a weekly Sunday Comic digital release in 2021, with a new installment and its own sound track each week. Sarah and her illustrator, Rokaya Taqi, are currently crowdfunding to make the print edition a reality. The project was created by women, written with a feminist queer
perspective, with characters written from a place of empowerment, rather than the often sexualized women found in mainstream comics. The graphic novel in progress depicts its main character, Sofia Spinoza, and her frustration at the human race for destroying the planet. Plants are given voices via monologues. Spinoza takes a job in a herb shop - never letting on to her co-workers that the plants are speaking to her, as the story unfolds. The herb calendula waxes poetic, reminding us our cells are always regenerating, and that this beneficial plant’s flower opens with the sun, following it throughout the day. “Many are drawn to my sunny appearance,” the flower says. “I prefer to join forces, growing among other plant allies in the garden - a unity of forces supports a dynamic ecosystem - and with that comes a connection to the self and the great all-knowing.” The plant Yarrow speaks as a warrior from the garden, with tales of resisting drought, and encouraging boundaries for those that connect to other’s energies. The plant asks for you to tune in, and love - for that will make you infinite. Strong words from the plants to humans, but Russo says they speak to us all the time, we just need to know how to listen and accept their goodness. “Mother nature is our greatest ally,” Russo surmises. “We just need to respectfully learn from her therapeutic wisdom.” For more information and to support Herbs for the Apocalypse visit, https://www. herbsfortheapocalypse.com/ A crowd sourcing link to support the project is on the website.

Let’s get a lil’ into the statistics and science behind this neurodegenerative disease. Dementia is caused by changes or damage to the brain. Plaques form when proteins clump together in the brain causing impairment between nerve cells in the brain causing dementia. Dementia does not always come from Alzheimer’s disease, although it is most commonly caused by Alzheimer’s. Which also happens to be the most progressive form of the disease. Dementia also derives from other various diseases such as Vascular dementia (long-term high blood pressure/ hardening of the arteries), Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body, Huntington’s disease, MS, ALS, Syphilis, and a few other less common diseases. Dementia can also occur by cause of severe brain injury by way of damage or loss of nerve cell connections to the brain. There is the possibility of inherited dementia that is derived from a disorder. Doctors usually suspect that it was inherited when a person who is younger than 50 years old has symptoms of dementia. Some of the symptoms that occur as a result of dementia involve both cognitive and psychological changes. The cognitive changes include memory loss, difficulty with reasoning, handling tasks, communicating, problem-solving, planning, organizing, confusion, and getting lost while driving or walking. The psychological changes that can occur are personality changes such as anxiety, depression, inappropriate behavior, agitation, and hallucinations (NIH).

I have personally done my own research and documentation of cannabis and dementia. In 2015 my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, followed by dementia. When he was in the mildmoderate decline stages around 2016, I began creating a regimen for him of cannabis oil, by use of a sublingual
tincture. Some members of my family (but not all) supported the use of cannabis oil when I educated them on studies and anecdotal testimonies. We would use the “Papa & Barkley’s” 2:1 THC: CBD tincture nightly. We started him on a .50ml (half dropper dose) and increased it to a full dropper after 2 weeks. We began to witness significant improvement in memory as he would remember individuals’ faces and names, as well as recall specific memories at a time when we were barely getting adequate communication. After doing further research on cannabinoids and their efficacy with dementia, we began to use a 2:1 THCA: CBD tincture. At that time, in 2017, THCA was shown to be the best (acidic form) cannabinoid for the use of treatment. So, we continued alternating between both of those tinctures to see which gave him the best results. He did well with both, but we found the THCA tincture was better for daytime use. We had so much success with these cannabinoids that his Neurologist called me to ask what I have been giving him because he was able to decrease his then 8 prescribed medications down to 2, due to the results of his tests that have improved tremendously. Not only did it help the dementia, but it also decreased his high blood pressure and he was no longer diabetic- all from the cannabis oil. When I told him the regimen I had him on, he asked if he could send me his patients to help also. He was amazed at the fact that he had never seen this type of rapid improvement with any other treatment. Unfortunately, other family members who alternated his care opposed the use of cannabis treatment, and he wasn’t getting the consistent regimen anymore. My Papa Willie lost his battle with dementia in December 2020. Nurses and doctors alike were impressed with how long he lasted with the disease. I firmly believe that cannabis contributed to giving us the extra time we had with him, and a better quality of life. This experience is what gave me the big kick to continue my research and

Cooking for a Queen MARNIE MONTROY Marnie Montroy arrived in Vegas fourteen years ago. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she has been a cannabis consumer for most of her life. She was in her late teens, losing her grandmother and coping with incredible amounts of anxiety, carrying a lot of weight on her shoulders when she realized that cannabis was more than just a recreational drug. It wasn’t until 2011 that Marnie would come to realize that cannabis was truly her saving grace. After being involved in a horrible accident which resulted in facial reconstructive surgery and various plates and screws in her neck, she was prescribed an array of dangerous pharmaceuticals that included Gabapentin, Lortab, Flexeril and Xanax. Dealing with the immense pain left from the accident while trying to manage her recently opened smoke shop had become unbearable at times. Fast forward five years, while attending the CHAMPS tradeshow, Montroy engaged in a conversation with a CBD vendor who had her try a CBD drink. Later in the day she realized that her anxiety along with her pain had lessened. A typical day for Montroy meant staying ultra focused on managing her pain and that day, some of the worry seemed to subside. It was then, in 2016, before recreational legalization that Marnie began an incessant amount of research on the healing powers

of the cannabis plant and CBD in particular. She made a bold move and removed all of the cigarettes from her smoke shop and replaced it with various CBD brands. When patrons came in, she flooded them with information about CBD. When they asked for cigarettes, she let them know that CBD could help them quit smoking. Then one day, a gentleman entered her shop and she noticed he was stuttering. He told her that he had a brain tumor removed and had been stuttering ever since. Marnie offered him a sample of a high milligram CBD product. He tried it and as their conversation progressed, the stuttering slowed down, so much so that the man began to cry. At this same time, Montroy was utilizing a large quantity of CBD which was what allowed her to cut out every single one of the pharmaceuticals she had been on, the most difficult being the Xanax. Not too long after opening the shop, Marnie was faced with the difficult decision to divorce her then husband and business partner. This was a decision that she believes she would have been unable to make back when she was on pharmaceuticals. She attributes her personal clarity and healing to CBD. The divorce that ensued resulted in the shop being closed. But that didn’t stop Marnie - she was now on a mission to educate and heal. After closing her shop, Montroy had former customers
contacting her asking where to now purchase their CBD products. These requests led to the creation of her CBD delivery company, Strictly Hempin. Having the ability to provide products to her previous store patrons solidified what Marnie had known all along - CBD really did offer life changing benefits. She knew that she needed to continue on her path of education and she knew that there had to be a better way to reach those that were skeptical. She started doing pop-ups and attending events like Culture and Cannabis where she would set up a table and allow people to sample the CBD brands she trusted. And she did this the best way that she knew how, with food and drinks. At each pop-up, Marnie displayed either lemonade or iced coffee infused with a CBD tincture. It was evident that, especially for those unsure of CBD, eating it or drinking it was the perfect way to get them to try it. Today, Marnie’s main focus is her job at Exhale Dispensary which she absolutely loves. As one of the few local dispensaries with an upper management team consisting mainly of women, Exhale has become a place for Montroy to not only educate those under her, but also to be educated by those above her and beside her. It is a place where her voice matters and when speaking with her, it was evident to me that she felt truly honored to work in a place where she felt valued and appreciated. On the side, she satisfies her mission to educate through her cooking show “Cooking for a Queen”. Although not a chef herself, Montroy has created a platform which allows her to host guest chefs that show people how easy it is to simply infuse CBD and cannabis into food. Why food? Marnie knows full well that infusing food and drinks is one of the easiests ways to introduce new people to cannabis. She is well versed in how cannabis can help people and the show allows her to also educate the viewers on the cannabis plant, dosages, various products and what to look for when shopping. Marnie Montroy understands cannabis. She has personally experienced the overwhelming health benefits of this plant and she is extremely passionate about helping others. She is the first one to say that all of her experiences, both good and bad, are what have led her to where she is today and she is thankful for those people that have stood by her side.
