Happy New Year! We did it! We made it through the first year of adult-use cannabis in Nevada. News outlets had a field day reporting the millions of dollars the industry generated. And, most Nevadans sat around assuming every company within the industry was also raking in the dough. All while wondering where the tax money was going and why Nevada schools, which has been overpopulated for years and continuously at the bottom of the state education ranking lists were experiencing major layoffs. This is a new industry, and although most cultivators, producers and dispensary owners are bringing in a fair amount of cash, some may have jumped in to the field unaware of the tax implications they would experience. Because cannabis is still federally illegal, those dabbling in the state legal industry are not afforded the same benefits and write-offs that businesses typically see at tax time. You see, Tax Rule 280E states that the Internal Revenue Service does not allow any deductions or write-offs to businesses engaged in the trafficking of illegal drugs. It is not unusual for cannabis businesses to pay more than 70% in taxes due to this rule. And, as for the tax money, hopefully we will see this ironed out soon. The tax money brought in from cannabis sales are disseminated throughout the state. In addition, the administrative fees used to run the program are paid first. As a native, I know firsthand the importance of funding for our low ranking schools. The State of Nevada is granting new licenses which will result in additional tax money, and it is imperative that our schools receive the help the need. As we begin the new year, let’s strive to be less judgemental and assuming of things we do not know or understand.

CHEECH marin
R
ichard Marin, more commonly known as Cheech Marin, originally rose to fame as part of the stoner duo Cheech and Chong. Nowadays, Cheech is a writer, an avid art collector, and businessman. He recently released his cannabis brand Cheech’s Private Stash here in Nevada and we had the chance to chat with him about this and his many other ventures.
and are just about to launch in Colorado after the 1st of the year. Washington State, and then New Jersey are up next. We are also very excited to be launching in Canada in 2018 - wow a whole country! TCM: How did you connect with Redwood Cultivation here in Nevada?
Tahoe Cannabis Magazine: How did the Cheech and Chong personas come to be?
Cheech: When we started looking for the right partner in Nevada, everything pointed towards Redwood. We hit it off immediately as we had very similar ideas about the cannabis arena. We like to work closely with our growers. It's not just a business agreement, we are family.
heech Marin: Just us being ourselves and C having fun!!
TCM: You also have an extensive Chicano art collection - what led you to collecting?
TCM: Do you and Tommy Chong still work together? And if so, on what projects? How is your relationship with Chong today?
Cheech: I started out collecting Chicano art in a small way - and my love for Chicano art kept growing, as well as my interest in sharing this art with the world. Today, I have amassed about 700 pieces in my collection that I exhibit all over the world. I am very excited to be teaming up with the city of Riverside, California to develop the Cheech Marin Center of Chicano Art, Culture & Industry at Riverside Art Museum to be launched in 2020.
Cheech: Tommy and I still appear around the country and at a variety of venues. We took a break from touring for many years - but are now back on the road and having fun. Tommy and I will always be brothers. TCM: Your cannabis line "Cheech's Private Stash" just hit shelves in Vegas and you recently toured our dispensaries - what did you think and what types of products will we see from this line in the future? Cheech: We look to expand the brand to all categories in the future. We had a great reception to the line in Las Vegas and look forward to spending more time in the area to meet with consumers to learn what they look forward to seeing from CPS in the future. I really want to work on a wellness line with my daughter Jasmine. TCM: What other states do you have cannabis products in? Cheech: We recently launched in California,
TCM: You have a mezcal brand that you launched a couple of years ago, can you tell us a little about that? Cheech: We are having a great time with Tres Papalote Mezcal. When I decided to bring an alcohol brand to the market, mezcal seemed to be the perfect match. As a Mexican agave product it certainly fit the bill. I have been a lover of mezcal for many years and it is now an emerging category. I enjoy experimenting with interesting and diverse specialty cocktails. As I always say, meet the magic of mezcal, anyone can drink tequila. TCM: Within your line, do you have a favorite strain? Has your cannabis usage changed from the early days of Cheech and Chong to now?
Cheech: I love all the strains, each and every one of them, or they would not get the "Cheech approval". The usage of cannabis has certainly changed. For one thing, there is a great value for the medicinal effects. It is so much more readily accepted than back in the day. And, I believe we will see more and more benefits being discovered in the next few years. Everywhere I travel people tell me how cannabis has saved their life. TCM: Now in your seventies, did you ever think you would see the day that the states began legalizing cannabis? What more do you think can be done to progress the legalization movement? Cheech:I could only imagine legalization, and here it is. People need to be educated about cannabis, its great benefits and how to be compliant with the state laws. I was recently asked by the Secretary of State of California, Alex Padilla, to take part in a public service announcement encouraging people to learn the facts about the legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018. Understanding the law and abiding is the best way we can all move the cannabis industry forward. TCM: What is your favorite thing about Vegas? Cheech: I love Las Vegas. I always have fun, and enjoy all the great restaurants. I haven't found anything I don't like about it yet. TCM: Any last words before we close out this interview? Cheech: Yes, smoke weed!! TCM: How can we follow you on social media and the web? Cheech: Check out my website online at cheechsprivatestash.com. You can also follow me on twitter @cheechmarin and on Instagram @cheechsprivatestash.

n November 2016 more than 54% of Nevada voters approved legalizing, taxing and regulating adult-use cannabis, which required the state to begin selling by January 1, 2018. However, the State of Nevada Department of Taxation adopted temporary regulations in May 2017 letting sales begin as early as July 1, making the state the fastest state to move on implementing an adult-use program. Statewide 172 adult-use cannabis store licenses were available, but about 60 medical cannabis dispensaries, which were already up and running were, met the prerequisite to receive dual-licenses and to participate in the early sales. And, sell they did. In July dispensaries sold $27.1 million of cannabis. To give some perspective, that’s almost double what both Colorado and Oregon sold in their first months and almost 7 times what Washington sold. August sales topped $33 million and September’s sales hit $27.7 million. These numbers don’t account for the permanent regulations governing adult-use cannabis sales scheduled for early 2018 and which have revised proposed regulations as of December 13, 2017. Based on the numbers from July through September alone, Nevada will easily exceed the projections set forth in the 2016 Nevada Legal Cannabis Market State Profile, published by Arcview Market Research and New Frontier before Ballot Question 2 passed; its projections for the state’s cannabis market indicated a compound annual growth rate of 51%, with sales jumping from $121.6 million in 2016 to $629.5 million by 2020. There’s a 10% tax on the sale of all adult-use and medicinal cannabis at the register and a 15% wholesale tax applied at the cultivation level for both. Nevada generated more than $12.5 million from taxes in its first three months of sales since July 1. At this rate Nevada will easily reach its projected tax revenue of $50 in the first 12 months of sales from both medical and adult-use cannabis. Like other states where adult-use cannabis is legal, the Nevada tax revenue is earmarked for the state’s public education fund (after covering legalization began to sweep other states, the Caviar Gold brand of local government costs to regulate the industry).

tanding at the bathroom vanity of our one-bedroom apartment, I readied myself for dance class as Thomas puttered in the kitchen preparing our herbal tea. We had decided to leave the commune one month prior and were enjoying the solitude and sense of freedom when living with only one other person rather than eight. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, sang about teaching our children well on the turntable as the scent of burnt toast wafted its way down the hall. It was just another day. My memory of the exact time of year has since faded, but based on what occurred, it must have been July. I was running late as always. Sounding annoyed, Thomas called out for me to pick up the pace, along with my clothes strewn across our bedroom floor. At eighteen years old I still tore my way through multiple clothing changes before settling on which long skirt and peasant top to throw on over my leotard and tights. By week’s end my discard piles would greatly increase in number and size causing us to either step over them like land mines or directly through them, kicking our feet side to side, emulating machetes clearing a path. Complaining about living with a girl who owned as many articles of clothing as a chef has knives, Thomas set down our mugs of piping hot tea then turned to get into the shower. Noting he hadn’t even done that yet, I wondered why he grumbled about me causing us to be late. Sharing one car, we traveled to and from school together each day. Our mode of transportation was a dented and slightly rusted, twotoned gray VW Bus. The seats furthest back removed making room for the wheelchair-bound students Thomas transported to and from campus between his own classes. I had just finished applying my blue, waterproof mascara as Thomas stepped under the spray of steaming water when we heard it; POP-POP-POP!!! It took a few seconds for our brains to integrate the sounds into our reality. Then we heard it again; POP-POP-POP!!! Thomas immediately stepped back, turned and pushed me to the floor under cover of the vanity. Shrouding my body with his, we sat entangled and hiding. From what I didn’t know. Without speaking, Thomas pressed himself harder against me, wedging me firmly between his body and the wall. I was now completely shielded. Then three more times; POP-POP-POP!!! Frightened more by Thomas’s
reaction than by the noises, I didn’t ask what we were doing or why. Instead, I waited for the whine of sirens to follow, as I assumed they would. The terror I saw in my six foot three inch, blue-eyed, heavily bearded husband was an unfamiliar and disheartening sight. He did not utter a single word, nor did he look directly at me. I’m not sure how long we stayed huddled under the vanity, it felt like hours. I do remember thinking, now we’re really going to be late for school, but kept that to myself. And the sirens I had expected to hear; never materialized. Slowly, Thomas released his grip then scrambled out from under the counter. I followed closely behind, still afraid to ask questions or comment. Thomas paced about the bedroom a few times then hurried back to into the bathroom. He took his shower, dressed, grabbed his backpack and looking through me, rather than at me, stood at the front- door and asked if I was ready to go. Fortunately I had quickly dressed and picked up my piles of clothing while he showered, so I was ready. The drive to school was without conversation. Neither of us spoke about what had happened back at the apartment. I figured we’d talk about it when he was ready. But Thomas never was ready. As a young dancer, student and waitress living a busy and rather self-centered life, I eventually forgot about the incident. Until one day, something else happened. Something quite different but equally upsetting. It was almost a year later. Thomas and I had returned to communal living, but were now in a situation that was more group home (all students) than a cooperative of several individuals with agreed upon responsibilities. We had been a couple for a little over three years by this time, living in a kaleidoscope of a marriage that was part “open,” part traditional. Essentially we were June and Ward Cleaver in the New Age, the Age of Aquarius. But we were happy and quite in love. It was one of those rare evenings when we both had the night off from work. Tips had been good at the restaurant lately so I told Thomas I wanted to treat him to dinner and a movie. He accepted with such gusto I realized this was indeed a rare occasion, one where I was footing the bill. We decided to go all out and have dinner at a favorite, if not usually outside our budget, restaurant; St. Thomas’s Alley. Thomas changed into his pair of “less-worn” Birkenstocks while I wrapped a freshly
TAHOECANNABISMAG.COM
made tie-dye scarf around my head and donned a pair of big hoop earrings. Holding hands, we walked the four blocks from our house to the restaurant. It was autumn, the best of seasons. Squirrels scampered about in search of cover for their night’s rest. Leaves of all shapes and sizes commingled with fallen pine cones. Oversized, brownish-pink pods from immense Magnolia trees lining the sidewalk were scattered about giving the eye a reprieve from nature’s carpeting of red, yellow, orange and gold. As we approached the restaurant, there seated on the patio were two of our best friends, Heidi and Andrew. Heidi was a student at the same college Thomas and I attended. A tall, buxom woman with a pierced nose (not nearly as common back then) and long, wavy, jet black hair. While Andrew, small in stature, wore a long scraggly beard, reminiscent of a Hobbit. His light brown, curly hair was a lopsided mop atop his head, reminding me of a melting swirl of soft-serve ice cream. He held a noticeably softer demeanor than his girlfriend. He supported himself and pregnant Heidi by managing our local grocery co-op. The two were among our roommates in the original commune, where they still resided. It had been ages since we’d seen one another so Thomas and I gladly accepted their invitation to join them at their table. Our meals were exceptional. For starters, Thomas ordered the steak tartare for all to share. A platter of perfectly minced raw steak garnished with capers, thinly sliced red

onion garnished with a barely poached egg (we opted out of the raw yolk). This was accompanied by crispy points of toasted rye bread and cornichons, along with three varieties of mustards on the side. The wire basket with a grand assortment of warm, cheesy, garlicbread knots made me very happy. I could have made a meal of just this. But tonight was special, so I ordered a classic Poutin; perfectly seasoned frites (fries), slathered in rich, brown gravy and topped with made-in-house cheese curds. Thomas decided on the filet mignon prepared in a buttery red wine pan-sauce, roasted Baby Portobellos and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Catching up with our friends on who was doing what with who at the commune made for lively conversation. So engaged, I had lost track of time until the waiter offered our group the evening’s special dessert; Bread Pudding, Thomas’s favorite. I realized Thomas and I had only minutes to get to the theater. Hugs were passed around the table then we quickly walked to our destination. The passage of time once again makes for fuzzy details, as I cannot recall the title of the film nor subject matter. I believe it was action/ adventure. Doing my best to avoid pulling out dental work as I gnawed on Milk Duds while intermittently reaching a hand into Thomas’s bucket of greasy popcorn, we settled in and prepared to enjoy our movie. Not remembering details, I do know the scene at

that moment was of three men pulling themselves out of a large body of water in the dead of night. Staying low to the ground, they made their way towards a fortress of some kind, slithering on their bellies. Clothing and boots wet and covered in sludge-like sand. Creeping forward on their elbows, while shafts of lights moved across the area in search of intruders, the men bravely yet nervously made their way from water’s edge to dry land. The loud pulsating sound of helicopters screamed in competition with rock music playing in the background. To my left, I noticed Thomas’s breathing. When I turned to look at him I could see, even in darkness, he was sweating. Asking if he was okay, Thomas assured me he was fine. It was obvious he was not fine. He continued breathing quickly, with shallow breaths and began shifting in his seat. He must have reached a point of utter discomfort, for he stood up as though ejected from the worn and tattered velour seat mumbling something about having to get outside for some air. I dropped my box of candy to the floor and hurried after him whispering questions amid the rustling of gathering our things. It was then I remembered what had occurred months back when Thomas threw us under the bathroom vanity. This time I was determined to find out what was going on. Saying our “sorry’s and excuse-me’s” we bumped against knees and stepped over feet, the sounds emitting from the screen now overwhelming us like a shadowy murder of crows. I turned just in time to see the men in the film had made it to the fortress but there were others waiting for them, and a bloody battle ensued. I caught up to Thomas just as he dashed into the men’s room. I could hear him vomiting from where I stood outside the entry. Several minutes later, he exited, looking pale and weakened. I bombarded him with questions: What happened? Was he sick? Maybe it was food poisoning from the tartare. Do we need to go to the emergency room? Is this like that other time in the apartment? In a repeat of the previous incident, Thomas looked wild-eyed, sweaty and panicked. I clearly remembered my own feelings of confusion that first time when he behaved so strangely to what I thought were just fireworks. But it was October, not July, fireworks didn’t make sense. Thomas responded, saying he thought perhaps his vertigo was acting up. It was true, he did suffer vertigo. It would randomly come over him without warning or seeming impetus. His doctor said the episodes were likely due to fluid that remained in his inner ear as a result of excessive time spent in water. Thomas was an excellent swimmer, water polo player and during his stint in Vietnam; a Navy Seal. What Thomas and I didn’t know then, was that he was actually suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Like so many other men and women who have gone to fight during war time, Thomas returned with memories of fear and a distorted reality of then and now. Maybe, Thomas’s vertigo was a residual effect of his wartime experience. In the early ‘60’s when America “officially” entered the war in Vietnam the bulk of our troops were teenagers or men in their early twenties. Still too young to fully embrace or understand their new living situation in mountainous terrain covered in dense jungle or even their purpose for being there. Without unified support back home and upon hearing news of what war protesters were doing and saying, many troops
struggled to make sense of their plight, living each day in extreme danger with twisted and knotted internal conflict, pain and anger. Ironically, while marijuana use was rampant amid American Troops, Thomas opted out of using it. But I wish he had. Marijuana grew abundantly throughout Vietnam but was of course frowned upon by the “powers that be.” In their short-sighted wisdom, they issued a crackdown on marijuana. This led to increased and wider use of two other equally accessible alternatives; heroin and alcohol. But, it’s the differences between marijuana and heroin that are so broad and so distinct it’s like comparing apples to road-apples. The only benefit of heroin use was that it removed troops, emotionally from the terrors and depths of fighting in a country where it was nearly impossible to tell the North Vietnamese from the South Vietnamese. Where the “enemy” used tactics such as sending children to approach our troops to beg for cigarettes or chocolate, only to be armed with grenades. Millions of miles away from home, where the sweltering heat, constant rain (there are only two seasons in Vietnam; monsoon and dry), and bugs were almost worse than the Viet Cong. The horrendous sights, sounds and smells of war could still be seen, even with eyelids closed and the body quiet. Drug and alcohol use provided mental escape. Yet, of the three options available only marijuana could be used without fear of addiction, illness or other side effects. Even then it was common knowledge that the use of alcohol and heroin held debilitating effects that far exceed any value one may try to attribute to them. Less was known about (MJ) but several thousand of our troops knew that striking a match to a tightly wrapped, if not slightly damp doobie, was calming. It mellowed them out, yet simultaneously gave them focus. In direct contrast to the complete disorientation, vomiting and hangovers that come with consuming too much alcohol or not enough heroin, smoking pot did not affect our troops in the same way. Additionally, MJ appeared to reduce internal clashes stemming from socio-economic differences and issues among the men. Certainly, no one has ever been accused of being a “mean pothead.” In spite of what they witnessed with their own eyes, or perhaps even experienced as users of MJ, the U.S. government crackdown was implemented allowing heroin use to flourish; the worst among the alternatives. If I knew then what I know now, I would’ve, could’ve, should’ve prepared edibles to help Thomas better cope with those incidents of panic and flashbacks when they arose. His reactions to sounds he mistook for gunfire or movie scenes that brought forth memories of his own experiences slithering out of water in the dead of night with leeches in his boots and what else clinging to his skin and face, could have been lessened or even prevented by one of my dark chocolate, chewy infused brownies or snickerdoodles.
Though Thomas and I are no longer a couple, we are good friends. And as a good friend, I’m going to prepare for him, my version of that wonderful dessert we never had to time to share with our friends; Bread Pudding. Here’s Cosmic Muffin’s recipe for Infused Pear & Blackberry Bread Pudding with Vanilla Custard Sauce.

TALES FROM THE CRIP
By Peter Jay
TIMES CHANGE,
HABITS DON'T The older I get, the more ways life finds to remind me that I am indeed inhabiting a world vastly different than the one in which I grew up. The TV that I grew up watching offered five channels, which explains my admiration of Bob Ross and his ownership of happy little trees. My car had a carburetor and a cassette deck, and the only time that I used a telephone in my car was in my imagination OR if I found a street-side payphone with a long cable or just parked on the sidewalk (I lived the thug life even back then).
We were at war in the ‘80s, and that war is still going on today: the incredibly expensive and profoundly ineffective War On Drugs!
This was during the explosive-hair, Goodie comb and Jordache designer jeans days of the 1980s, and what splendid times they were? On the positive side, disco was finally dead, bell-bottoms were gone, most of the hippies had evolved into Yuppies and we weren’t at war with anybody. At the time, the music wasn’t bad; when I listen to it now, though…YEEESH! Could Phil Collins’ “Sussudio” have taken MORE time to play? It was a three-minute track that played for an hour, easy, and they were ALL like that. As you do when trying to make a point, I have lied to you. We were at war in the ‘80s, and that war is still going on today: the incredibly expensive and profoundly ineffective War On Drugs! Can I get a big “HOO-AH!” (please?) in appreciation for everything that the Federal G has done over the years in an attempt to save us from ourselves? Nancy Reagan, wife of then-President Ronald “Where are my shoes?” Reagan, introduced us to the concept of “Just Say No!” with regard to illegal drugs, and added a level of fear, suspicion and paranoia to our lives. Sadly, that sense of political shame and fear still lives within me, at least to some degree. How? For starters, my parents don’t know that I smoke marijuana—if I was 14, that would be fine. BUT I’M FIFTY, FOR FUCK’S SAKE!! I don’t get my weed from a burn-out named Ted, Bill or Randy (it’s odd how those names keep popping up in this space); rather, I use my medical marijuana card and buy my MEDICINE from a licensed dispensary. So why aren’t Pete and Pat (totally their real names) in the loop? They are my parents and we are Italian, meaning that they would stand by my side if I killed somebody and ate the corpse; for that matter, Pat would probably bring me some cannoli for dessert. of

Perhaps unsurprisingly, “Peter Jay” is a pseudonym. Lord knows that I’m proud my writing and being a part of TCM, but I work for the County and, legal or not, marijuana use (in my experience, at least) definitely gets the hairy eyeball around these parts. It’s a gateway drug, don’t you know—ten out of five people who smoke

marijuana ultimately join ISIS for the free opium! We can’t place a reefer-smoker in a position of responsibility because, according to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, marijuana users are “not good people” (emphasis: his words, not mine). A 2017 Gallup report (horses?) states that 64% of Americans (the cool ones, no doubt) support marijuana legalization, yet there still remains an “old guard” intent on thwarting the wishes of Weed (heh) the People. In my youth, I would have attributed legalization resistance to the aging process, but the broad age spectrum of consumers observed at the local dispensaries that I frequent would demonstrate this to not be the case. Marijuana use is still clearly extremely polarizing in some circles (preemployment drug testing, anybody?) and I learned long ago that playing the “gray man” (avoiding notice) in this area to be my best bet. Judge me on what you know about me, not about what you think you know about me—I’ll write a dissertation and smoke you stoopid when I’m done. The passage of time is the only thing that guarantees change, and increasing social acceptance of marijuana is inevitable. Speakeasies evolved into bars and taverns after the repeal of Prohibition, and establishing legal places to publicly consume marijuana will be a huge step forward. Perhaps then I will bring Pete and Pat in for a mellow edible, and smile when they ask me how I know so much about pot. Who Dares, Wins. No Guts, No Glory. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW YEAR! Well here we are. 2018 - Another year into legal cannabis in Nevada. And, last year we added recreational use. News outlets have reported $38 million dollars were made in the Nevada cannabis industry in October alone and over 6,000 new jobs created. That’s pretty impressive. Nevada cultivators are growing some of the best flowers we’ve EVER seen, and smoked! Our edibles are top notch, some of these edible artists are creating culinary masterpieces. Our concentrate and extract artists are constantly coming up with tastier and cleaner ways to consume the oils of this wonderful plant. Dispensary workers are educating themselves through classes and through experience with

With more grows popping up, cultivators expanding in size and more licenses on the way, the market will be flooded with cannabis and hopefully prices will start to go down and people will have access to better product for less money. Since everyone is starting to get educated about the medical and health benefits of terpenes and cannabinoids, more demand is being placed on QUALITY products and flowers. With the normalization of cannabis comes people who are talented in other fields transitioning into the cannabis market. That means more highly qualified bakers, chefs, and chocolatiers will be making our edibles. If we have so many delicious and sometimes nutritious options available to us right now, imagine where we’ll be by this time next year! The advancements that have been made this past year are extraordinary. Production houses that are making our concentrates and vapes have come up with some amazing flavor profiles that have made it much easier to get consumers exactly what they need. The terpene profiles and THC/CBD ratios on some of the concentrated cannabis products now allow us to almost pinpoint the way they will help someone. As long as everyone in the cannabis community continues to educate themselves and everyone around them, by this time next year the possibilities will be endless. And, as long as the state of Nevada adds regulations where needed, and not just where they can make more money while using the money made to regulate cannabis properly and make the process easier on the consumers, growers, and dispensaries, we can look forward to an awesome and productive 2018. We still have a lot of work to do, but let’s start the year off right being thankful for how far we’ve already come. Keep kicking ass Nevada!!!
patients. Some of the biggest companies and brands are flocking to Nevada. It’s a wonderful time to be a cannabis consumer in Nevada and this year will hopefully only get better.

BY MITCHELL S. BISSON, ESQ. MANAGING ATTORNEY CALLISTER LAW GROUP
The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers
Happy New Year! And with the numbers showing that marijuana sales in Nevada crept up on $38 Million in the month of October alone, I have no doubt that those in the marijuana industry here in Nevada are indeed having a very happy New Year. Keeping in line with the New Year’s tradition of people promising to make themselves better in some form or fashion, I have a New Year’s resolution suggestion for you U.S. Attorney General Jeffrey Sessions. In my opinion, you need to resolve to visit one of Nevada’s many fine dispensaries, grab yourself a tin of Green Life Productions’ pre-rolled Baby-J’s (the perfect size for newbies and/or those with small hands), light up, and chill out on your anti-marijuana stance. Although there have been no formal significant changes to federal policy as it relates to marijuana enforcement and the Cole Memorandum - which provides states like Nevada guidance on how to implement marijuana laws in a way to avoid federal intervention - recent comments and actions by Attorney General Sessions are very concerning. For starters, despite his own Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety recommending no new policy changes on marijuana enforcement, Sessions pushed forward and has now been meeting with Department of Justice officials to do this exact thing! While speaking to the press on November 29, 2017, Sessions made his stance on marijuana abundantly clear:
“It’s my view that the use of marijuana is detrimental and we should not give encouragement in any way to it. And it represents a federal violation which is in the law and is subject to being enforced, and our priorities will have to be focused on all the things and challenges that we face. We’ve got fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and prescription drugs and marijuana and other drugs. So we’ll be working our way through to a rational policy. But I don’t want to suggest in any way that this Department believes that marijuana is harmless and people should not avoid it.” This is where the problem lies. Despite the undeniable medicinal (and yes, recreational) benefits marijuana consumption provides, marijuana is still classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. Astonishingly, this means the federal government considers marijuana as dangerous and addictive as heroin, methamphetamine, and LSD, and more dangerous and addictive than cocaine and prescription pain killers, which are only classified as Schedule II drugs. In addition, the Drug Enforcement Agency has officially classified the man-made drug Syndros – a synthetic form of THC made by a well-known fentanyl manufacturer – a Schedule II drug. How the federal government could determine that synthetic THC is somehow
34
safer and more medically valuable than naturally produced THC from a marijuana plant is beyond comprehension. Clearly Congress needs to step in and either outright declassify marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act or reclassify it as anything but a Schedule I drug. While Congress has yet to do anything to address this injustice, steps are already being taken in the judicial branch to make this happen. In United States District Court, Southern District of New York, Washington, et al v. Session, et al (Case No. 1:17-cv-05625), eleven year old Alexis Bortell is leading the charge against Sessions. She, along with four other plaintiffs, have filed a civil rights lawsuit against Sessions and the United States of America demanding that the Controlled Substances Act be deemed unconstitutional under the First, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendments. Little Alexis has intractable epilepsy and, after years of trying other forms of treatment, the only thing Alexis’s family has been able to find that stops her seizures is marijuana. As a result, Alexis requires her supply of medical marijuana be near at all times – sort of like an Epi-pen for those with severe allergies. However, because of federal marijuana laws, in order for Alexis to get her needed medication, she and her family had no choice but to pick up and relocate to Colorado. Alexis is just one of many individuals out there that is affected by the federal government’s harsh and nonsensical marijuana laws. By way of her lawsuit, Alexis is trying to ensure no one else has to take such drastic action to get their medicine, especially in light of the research available showing the benefits of marijuana. I’m cheering for you Alexis, and I know the readers of Vegas Cannabis are too! Attorney General Session’s hard-line stance against marijuana is affecting us locally as well by causing delays in getting cannabis consumption lounges opened. Although local government officials already possess authority under state law to regulate and license consumption lounges, they have been hesitant to push forward – citing fears that it may be seen as too progressive and invite federal intervention. Yet, they must not ignore the risk associated with the status quo here in Nevada as it relates to marijuana tourism and how doing nothing could be even more inviting of federal intervention. Think about it: by embracing sales of marijuana to tourists, but giving them no legal place to consume it, we are impliedly giving them no option but to travel across interstate lines with a Schedule I drug. This is dangerous territory and something must be done immediately. And Mr. Sessions, once Nevada has its cannabis consumption lounges up and running, come on over and free your mind… the first round of dabs is on me! Stay safe, stay legal, and #StayWoke!

Nevada Dispensaries SHANGO Sticky Bitch
"Cannabis is not yet recognized and acknowledged by our government as a pharmaceutical, or having any medical benefit to mankind whatsoever, despite the overwhelming amount of viable scientific data that exists on the internet, and the multiple cannabis-related US patents held by that same government. Traditional medicine has handed out many heartless death sentences to people who have found cannabis to extend their lives, and help with a multitude of symptoms. Cannabis is not a secret, it’s modern-day medicine. Stand Up for Cannabis!" ------ BILL SHEHAN ------

Not many dudes out there are actually looking to mess with a Sticky Bitch, unless, perhaps she wasn’t sticky to begin with and that dude caused the stickiness. Well this is just weed, so no need to freak out about germs and sexually transmitted diseases. The name implies that you could throw a nug against a wall, and it would stick to the paint, but don’t go throwing your weed around. It’s just a figure of speech. I broke this flower up with my fingers, and it wasn’t that sticky. I don’t use a grinder anymore, because I’ve lost a couple of mature seeds that could have been disseminated had I just used my hands instead of a grinder. This Bitch was well-cured and pretty dense, and it burned nicely, steady and white. I was lit for a good hour after the deed. I wish the Sticky Bitch would have dropped her seed. I would have popped it, indeed. THC- 31.5% Myrcene- 4.418 mg/g Caryophyllene- 3.476 mg/g Limonene- 2.962 Humulene- 10.95
SHANGO A-Dub Badder
I'm hitting this in the dark, figuratively speaking. The lights are on, but I’m dabbing the old fashioned way here, blind. Oh, don’t worry about my vision. I can see just fine. The labs are missing from this equation. I saw this coming when a certain lab’s test results made no sense, and were instantly significantly higher in every category, except CBN and CBGa which should never be nonexistent. I don't need the labs in order to do my job. In fact, it's way more interesting and fun this way, on the fly, blind, and in the dark. Wait up, Yo! Give that torch a spark. Stick around and park your ass down. Hey Bub, A-dub is not made up like some of the lab results we’ve been seeing throughout Nevada. Coming Soon

PRODUCTS KABUNKY Cherry Chewgummies
These disappeared right away. I stacked these little, lego-sized rectangle chews, snapped a photo, then ate them all, cuz I’d get accused anyway. These are so soft and yummy. Your teeth will slice these up into nothing in no time. It’s nearly impossible for me to have any self-control when I open a pack of Kabunky Chewgummies. Can we make these stronger for serious patients? I’d like to eat a 500mg THC pack of these to start my weekend off right. My wife could stretch these out a week or so, but I'm a larger mammal with an appetite for infusables. Don't be confused. Total THC- 101.5 mg 10 pieces/pack THC/piece- 10.15 mg
KABUNKY Acapulco Gold Kabunky Klear Raw Cartridge
I’m not sure how this got me goin’ with numbers this gentle, but it did. I took this to the casino, and chilled in the sportsbook lounge. I blended right in with the conservative alcoholics and their thick clouds of tobacco. No one gave a shit about my little vape cartridge. Stop telling and causing a scene, and everything will be fine. I smell weed on the city streets, and in the halls of casinos every motherfucking day. Can’t everybody just smoke herbs all day so everything could be OK? That’s the way we should play. Things don’t have to be so gray. THC- 33.8% CBD- 5.05%
KABUNKY Laughing Laughlin Krumble
Here’s a bargain for the heady wax consumers out there! If you find yourself in Vegas on a Wednesday, visit Nevada Made Marijuana and grab their Kabunky Krumble for a ridiculous price of $20 a gram. Let’s see your street dealer beat that. He can’t. Any way you look at it, it’s great for the price. No complaints from the patients who have already been there and done that. They know what I’m talkin’ about. The consistency is on the softer side, comparing to other crumbles. It’s almost like badder. Use your dab tool to peel off a chunky dose, and watch it melt and evaporate into a white cloud. Kabunky should be proud to stand above the crowd. Their concentrates are well-endowed. I snapped off a good-sized banger full of this wax, then forgot what it was called. I tried so hard to remember the name, but nothing...blank…. I think it gave me amnesia, or something... Wait. Ya, that's it. I remember now, Amnesia Haze. Shit, maybe I'm getting that condition… “Old Timer’s”. Ya, I got that shit. Oh well, at least I'm old enough to dab. Drown your sorrows, and suppress depression with this shifty shatter. THC- 84.9% CBD- 2.8 mg/g CBN- 2.6 mg/g Caryophyllene- 10.3 mg/g Myrcene- 2.2 mg/g Pinene (a+b)- 0.9 mg/g Linalool- 0.8 mg/g
GIDDY UP Strawberry Fields Shatter
Solid, stable, ideal texture for a snap-n-pull shatter. Tasty too. Enjoy the familiar fragrance and sweet, fruity flavor of this extraction anytime, day or night. There isn’t much myrcene, so you won’t plummet or get too lazy from it. The considerable amount of caryophyllene keeps you from feelin’ crazy from it. Adventure is on the summit once you’ve done it. Bill, now you’ve done it. Everyone’s faded and strawberry-plated. What monsters you’ve created. Look what they did to the hypocrites who hated on us. They signed them up for a Trimternship, and turned them into trimmigrants and budtenders. They all recognize their ignorance once the bud enters. If you can’t beat us, join us. I’m all dreamy-eyed and kushy-tailed by the visual presentation of this cream of the Sour Banana Sherbet crop. Expectations shot through the roof. Time to try this Vader pudding to search for the proof, which they say is in the actual pudding itself. Amazing! I’ll be putting this SBS Shatter on my top shelf, and keeping it all to myself. The limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene combination will provide a lengthy chill and offer relaxation and pain relief to whoever enjoys it. #vaderhog

What a flower! This one has given me the power of Greyskull. Well, not quite. But I do feel like He-Man, even though I know I’m just Bill Shehan. Look, Raz really can help you pop out your chest. a-Pinene is THE BEST bronchodilator available to mankind. Yes, it’s even more effective than the artificial chemicals found in Albuterol. Medizin, can we make some ECO (Extracted Cannabis Oil - AKA RSO) out of this strain for asthmatics? Who cares about price and mathematics when something helps people more than traditional medicine. Just build a green castle and grow more weed, so we can help everyone in need. Raz is also a perfect supplement to leisurely activities and can add excitement to outdoor excursions. MEDIZIN Grape Stomper Shatter
Medizin’s shatter is usually one of the first things to be devoured by our team, but for some reason, it wasn’t that A+ product we were used to. It was still enjoyable and got us all faded, but the taste wasn’t as remarkable as everything else we have introduced by Medizin. On a report card full of straight A’s, a B stands out like a sore thumb. But a “B” is still above average, and shit’s relative. Getting a “B” would be awesome if you were barely passing everything else. The consistency of this shatter was on point, snappy yet stretchable when warmed up a bit. Take a hit, and see what you get. Hell to the yes! I am infatuated with Medizin’s OGKB flower. It tastes remarkable and with so many tiny trichomes sparkling and shimmering under lights, this reminded me of the actual Little Star that Twinkled. Hee hee, I just tinkled a bit. You did too? MEDIZIN Irene RSO This is the first time that we have held true RSO made by a Nevada licensed Marijuana Establishment, True, other companies have attempted creating an essential oil, extracted from cannabis. Some have come close but nothing has proven to be as medicinal as the oil my wife makes at home. My wife originally used RSO to rest and offset her sleeplessness caused by extended Albuterol use. After just a week, we realized that it’s actually controlling her asthma, and eliminating her vicious cycle of Albuterol and sleeping pills. We knew then, that we had an obligation to this medicine and to the state of Nevada to spread the word the best way we could. So we began printing and advocating with Nevada’s first and only fully licensed marijuana magazine. We are proud to introduce this medicine to our readers. Way to go Medizin, tastes legit. Time will tell.

I’m not being naughty, just thought we ought to be expressing our love and humor every chance we get so people don’t forget who we are in love with. Create constant reminders to communicate and express yourself. Make time for tea. Don’t be so concerned about Tee Time. Be considerate. Consider it. My speed here. My flavor, my feeling. All mine. Yup this flower has that oomph that I search for when I break up some nugs. TERPX Head Space Sauce
This was my favorite extract created by TerpX this month. Holy shit, I just took another dab to remind myself how fucking awesome this hash is. I like this feeling of wooziness and the random, nondirected thoughts that I get from dabbing it. My head is like a bobble-head doll. It’s gotta be the myrcene, which is off the lab charts at over 7%. If you want to isolate a terpene, to feel its specific beneficial effects, this is a prime example of what myrcene can do for you. Caryophyllene and linalool are stacked up too, and those two terpenes work great together to offset anxiety, stress, and desperation. This is a perfect strain for those who complain about pain, or the heavy strain of life itself. Head Space, take me away from this hectic day so I can play and chill. Hey doctor, keep your pill, I don’t like the way it makes me feel. TerpX keeps shit real. That’s the deal, Evander. Let’s meander. THC- 69.7% Myrcene- 76.1 mg/g Caryophyllene- 13.4 mg/g Linalool- 8.7 mg/g
TERPEX GG4 Live Resin Sauce
What a strange trip it’s been. This is a strange terpene profile. When was the last time you saw a lab sheet with no limonene, myrcene, linalool, or pinene? Ya, I can’t recall neither. Terpinene is known for its remarkable anti-inflammatory effects, and this GG4 Sauce is loaded with it. Guaiol has been extracted from cypress pine trees for centuries to treat arthritis and constipation, and has been effective as a cough suppressant and insect repellant. Crazy, huh? And you all should know about caryophyllene by now, almost 2% found here. Toss this tasty Terpx Sauce in your rig or wax pen, and become the boss of this perplexed world we live in. You can begin to relax again, my friend, this is the end. THC- 52.87%

PRODUCTS REMEDY Platinum Girl Scout Cookies
Alright, I’m just gonna be straight with you. I don’t give a shit if the Scouts or the Brownies get upset about the name of this strain. People play on successful names all the time. Hell, I understand why they do it. It’s easier to remember names with associations, than to acknowledge a unique name and start from scratch. Besides, Remedy didn’t create the strain, Platinum Girl Scout Cookies. They got this cut from someone else who also didn’t create that genetic. Furthermore, this weed tastes like Thin Mint Cookies, and the name association combined with these munchies might just generate some income for the Girl Scouts. THC- 20.5% CBD- 2.4 mg/g Caryophyllene- 13.2 mg/g Humulene- 5.6 mg/g Limonene- 5.4 mg/g
CULTIVATION LABS Jenny Kush
CULTIVATION LABS Space Cake
A new cultivation on the Nevada scene, Cultivation Labs launches an impressive line of beautiful flower. Everything from the cure to the stacked lab results will turn heads and get the nod from the cannabis community. I was intrigued to learn that ALL of their plants grown on site, begin their life in a container as a tissue culture. For noobs, it’s tedious procedure using a small sliver of the mother plant, instead of the typical cloning methods using a much larger cut. Space Cake is loaded with 2% myrcene, which seemed to up the THC percentage another 10 percent. Shit how do I get down from way up here, man? THC- 19.27 mg/g Myrcene- 20 mg/g Limonene- 3.3 mg/g Linalool- 2.1 mg/g
Ya, go ahead and round that shit up. Round up the THC percentage. Round up the heavy terps. Shit, round up all the Jenny Kush too. The last time we got together, everything was absolutely amazing. I’m not sure if I had my way with her, or she had her way with me. I’ll hit that shit again, and we’ll see. I should share Jenny Kush with my pretty wife. Yeah, I’m gonna have her hit it tonight. It should put her silly ass to sleep. THC- 29.99% Myrcene- 6.8 mg/g Caryophyllene- 4.7 mg/g Terpinene- 2.7 mg/g
THE WEEKEND BOX Caviar Gold Box
What a presentation! The marketing and packaging containers are sick. Just unwrapping the box and going through its contents was entertaining and put a smile on my face. Everything was symmetrical and individually packaged. The Infused Caviar Gold flower was the centerpiece of the shiny gold box, and was stoney as shit. A couple puffs on a pipe is all I needed to be good. Later, I shared one of the two infused Cavi Cones and a Cavi J with an old friend, and we were faded before we finished. All that and a Blue Dream Cavi Taffy for a nightcap. Get your money’s worth with the Caviar Gold Weekend Box. Box includes: 1/8th of Caviar Gold's Signature Infused Flower, one OG Cavi Cone Infused Pre-Roll, one Strawberry Cavi Cone Infused Pre-Roll, one OG Cavi J Infused Pre-Roll, one Raspberry Cavi J Infused PreRoll and one Blue Dream 100mg Cavi Taffy

TOKIN' WITH THE INFAMOUS
BY HOPPER THE CHRONISSEUR
Jahred Gomes of Hed(pe)
I
know I say this every month, but I was so stoked to sit down with my homie, Jahred Gomes, singer of Hed(pe) for a little chat and a toke. We go way back, so it was great to reconnect, reminisce on old memories and hear what he has coming up next. Backstage, buses, and bong hits…it was just like the old tour days. Well, except I wasn’t responsible for everything, and just got to relax and shoot the shit with a homie and enjoy the show. Hopper: So stoked to see you brother, it’s been a few years. How’ve you been? Jahred: Ah man, doin’ great. Just grindin’ with the music constantly. Hopper: I know you go nonstop. We go way back to the old tour days. You’re still touring like crazy, how do you keep up that stamina? It seems to be effortless for you. Jahred: You know what, I don’t want to act like it’s something that’s so difficult because it’s not like it’s so difficult to tour and play music. It’s something I enjoy doing. Now that I’m married and have a son, it’s different than before, because I miss my family. Besides that, I can’t say that it’s so difficult to go out there and play music. Hopper: Tell TCM readers what you’re doing now. I’m loving this new album, it’s heavy as fuck.
44
Jahred: I’m stoked that you dig it. Here’s the thing that’s weird about me, right. In my normal,
daily life, I don’t listen to heavy metal. I listen more to hip hop and Frank Sinatra and Bob Marley. When I go to write my music and express myself, I always enjoy making it heavy and hardcore, whether it’s punk or heavy metal. It’s interesting that I’m drawn to that when I go to express myself. Hopper: You just nailed one of my next questions about your influences. Here is one thing I’ve always noticed with Hed. You’ve always been versatile. Describe your sound and the evolution of it, because you do everything from reggae to the heaviest of heavy. That new track, “Pay Me” is balls out, raw, and hardcore. Jahred: Right. Yeah, that’s a blessing and a curse. I’m constantly shifting sounds. Sometimes people enjoy that ride with me. Sometimes I should exercise more discipline. Hopper: Hed(pe) is a mainstay in the underground, independent music scene. Does that help you keep your edge? Jahred: I think it just comes naturally, dude. I think I have to fight against that when I’m trying to do a more mainstream thing,
but I think that my creations come out a little bit naturally psychotic like that. Hopper: That’s a good thing, I dig psychotic! Your fans know that there is a lot more to you than just music. You wanna tell VCM readers some of the other things you’re passionate about? Jahred: You know, the journey is always changing and I’ve known you for a long time, so you know the quest for knowledge and wisdom is always evolving. I don’t find myself spending hours reading about and researching shadow government stuff anymore. I’m more towards just trying to improve myself through being a good family man, and also enjoying the creative process
above all. I feel supremely blessed to be able to show up at a club, and have a hundred people come jam with me. And then, if I show up and it’s more than that, then I’m even more blessed. I make a living just going and jamming, you know? I’ve had to evolve obviously. You’ve known me for a long time. Used to be we’d throw a lot of records, be on the radio, and on tv. Now, that’s not the case, but I’m still blessed with a music career. Hopper: What do you have coming up in the New Year? Jahred: I’ve got two months overseas the first quarter of 2018, and then come home to a five week run with a big band that I can’t really say the name yet. I
can’t expose who it is yet. Hopper: So are you still puffin’ tough like we used to? Jahred: Not like that, cause I’m an older cat! I have like a generation of a head start on everybody around me. For me, it’s more choosing my moments of enhancement, rather than treat it like a habit. Hopper: I remember back in those days though, before delivery services and all that, I’d cruise up to your place and bring you herb from down here. We had some monster sessions! Jahred: Yeah, yeah! That Trainwreck. Hopper: Yeah, that and the Kingsblend. Jahred: Yeah that, and the Sour too. That was great, I remember those days, bro. I remember that apartment. That was the last apartment I had in Huntington Beach before I moved out to Idaho. Hopper: I remember the last time I was at your pad there, you were writing and I got to hear a lot of the tunes that came out on the Suburban Noize release, “Back 2 Base X”. That was a fuckin’ great album, and it was dope hearing it in its raw form. Jahred: Yeah, you’re right. A lot of them did end up being on the new Hed(pe) record. That was cool. I think you were the guy who said that I should call Kevin Zinger. Hopper: Yeah, that was me. Jahred:That ended up being a match made in heaven. I really looked at those Sub Noize years as the highlight of my career.
Hopper: It was always good times, brother. Always good times. And it’s still good times, that’s what’s rad. Hopper: What’s your favorite strain to smoke on these days when you have time?
NICE PACKAGE! (That’s what she said.)
Jahred: The OG Kush is always nice. Hopper: How do you prefer to smoke?
KEEPING IT REAL 100% ORGANIC CANNABIS
Jahred: I’m old school. Fire. Fire good. Hopper: So are you more into bong hits, or joints? Jahred: It really depends on the time of the day. To me, it’s all about the respect of the flower. At this point of my life, as a fully grown man, it’s all about applying the proper respect. Hopper: How do you feel about edibles? Jahred: I do enjoy them when it’s time to relax. Again, it’s always according to what’s going on in my life and what’s appropriate to that moment. Hopper: True that, true that. It’s all about responsibility. Again, honestly, it’s so good to see you. So stoked to hang out and see you hit the stage. Any shout outs before we go? Jahred: Shout out to the worldwide resistance. Shout out to all the hard-working people across the world, trying to make a living and keep up with the rat race. IG: @therealhedpe Facebook.com/hedpe Twitter: @hedpe Follow Hopper on IG @hopper448

New Year, New Goals
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> By Jennifer Shepherd, RN Happy New Year! January, of course, is the time of year everyone wants to accomplish their goals. And, who is more goal oriented than the stoner community? No one! We get shit done. This industry is doing in one year what takes other industries seven years to accomplish. Weed is growing, there are plants to be attended to, and concentrates and edibles to be made, not to mention stoners seem to be able to make a pipe out of anything. Don’t you want one of your New Year’s resolutions to include more cannabis? I do. I googled the top New Year’s resolutions and will explain how cannabis can help with each one. According to Google searches in 2017, the most popular resolutions are: Stay/Get Healthy: Getting “healthy” includes mind, body, and soul. Let’s talk about getting the mind healthy. Cannabis can potentially assist
with memory, acts as a neuroprotectant, and could potentially assist with PTSD. For the body, it is a common ideology that cannabis makes you gain weight; however, studies suggest that cannabis consumers have a lower body mass index. Also, cannabinoids found in cannabis have medical values for a mind-blowing number of things from antibacterial properties, inflammation, antiviral, and many more. Cannabinoids have also been patented as an antioxidant, relieving the body of toxic stressors that assist in aging. So, this can help you look younger theoretically. I am asked all the time how I look so young. My response is “all the cannabis I consume.” I love using cannabis to connect with myself, my soul. I look at things in tons of different ways. I also feel as if cannabis helps me pay more attention to what my body is feeling and to get into the heart of the scenario or issue, which helps me deal with emotional and physical issues. All of which relieves my soul.
Enjoy Life to the Fullest: The common misnomer is that stoners are lazy. However, the cannabis community loves nature, friends, family, art, etc. There is so much to do being a part of this community. Colors seem brighter, my friend’s jokes are funnier, the sun’s rays shine harder on cannabis, or maybe it’s just Nevada’s sun. All the art to appreciate while I am high makes for such a good time. I am certainly an expert on enjoying the great outdoors. Cannabis sessions in nature are the best, even alone. There is nothing better than spending time watching all there is to enjoy in this world and really taking it in. Cannabis puts a different set of goggles on when you’re in nature. Spending More Time with Friends and Family: POTlucks were invented for a reason. I spend more time with my friends and family who consume cannabis with me. We bond and are more compatible in the same space. We like to have delicious, healthy food and enjoy talking about the healing
properties of plants and going on adventures. Also having friends that bring you cannabis goodies is amazing. I really believe that having goals in life is important. I recently went through a bunch of old papers I had. One of them was the first business plan I ever made. I realized I had met every goal I had set for myself within the first eight months of finishing that plan. January is the perfect time to start, and whatever it is that you set out to accomplish, just remember to enjoy life to the fullest. Namaste Elevated. Peace. AARON URETSKY for a year or so then possibly go back to school. I love Tahoe and decided that's where I wanted to be for a while. A year after I left my job to blow glass full time, I was offered an artist residency in South Florida. The whole time I was in Florida, I missed Tahoe and the mountains so much, but the opportunity I was presented out there was awesome and I learned a ton and got to work with so many amazing artists. My time in Florida was over at the end of 2016 and my girlfriend and I decided we were moving back west with Reno/ Tahoe in sight. I spent 3 months traveling the country with my dog Remy and collaborating with glass artists nationwide. We officially moved to Reno in February of 2017, built a sweet home studio and have been living the dream!
H
What type of glass pieces do you specialize in? Do you have a signature piece? ow long have you been a glassblower? And, how did you get into it?
I have been blowing glass for about 6 years. I started in 2011 in South Lake Tahoe as a apprentice of Jace Poletti, Stone Cutter Glasswerx. I first became interested in glassblowing in high school. I was smoking some herb with a friend of mine and she had a bong which she mentioned that her cousin made. I remember thinking, people make these? After spending a year at Humboldt State, I moved out to Tahoe, and a few years later met Jace. I bugged him for like a year to teach me and finally he did! I spent three years as Jace's apprentice
52
while working a full time job at a local ski resort, and then finally decided i wanted to blow glass full time; so i left my job and dove all in!
Are you originally from the Northern Nevada area? If not, where are you from and how did you end up in Northern Nevada? I was born and raised in Pacific Grove, CA and moved to Arcata when I was 17 to attend college. After one year at HSU, I decided to take some time off of school and move out to South Lake Tahoe. My plan was to get a ski resort job and snowboard
For the first three years I pretty much just made production spoon pipes, bubblers, sherlocks, etc. Once I went full time I really wanted to find my voice in our industry and make some of my own creations and designs. When I was in high school I always used to draw this koala cartoon where the chubby koala was drunk and high on eucalyptus, can't remember why I started drawing the little dude but he was pretty much all I drew. Being inspired by all the great sculptures of glass I decided I wanted to make this koala. The first one came out looking more like some kind of alien creature but it was a functional piece and my first sculpture ever! From that point on cartoon sculptures were my primary focus with the koala being the main character. Being in Florida for a year I was inspired to start making my version of a gator. My gators and koalas have become my
signature pieces and they are party animals, usually holding some weed, booze or other party favors. Recently I have been focusing on incorporating more of a scientific function to my sculptures creating something new and sweet!
Are there any glassblowers or artists that inspire you? I am definitely inspired by many artists, glassblowers included. Every time I work with or next to a new artist I always learn something. Over the years, I have been blessed to work with some of my favorite glass artists and meet some new artists that blew my mind. My glass crew always inspires me and motivates me to try harder and work more. Shout out to my glass family: Jace, Rednose, Berning, Gonzoe, Lor, and Stellar!
Do you have your own shop? If not, where can we find your work? I have my own home studio where everything is made and then I sell my work to shops locally and nationwide via trade shows. My Instagram page @aaronuglass, is the main posting spot for all my recent creations so you can see what's new and what I am working on! In the Reno/ Tahoe area my work can be found locally at the ButterMuffin Smoke Shop, HeadUp Smoke shop in South Lake Tahoe, and Art Dogs in Reno. I will be in Las Vegas February 5th-7th vending at the Glass Vegas Expo in booth A210, so be sure to tell your local and favorite smoke shop to head to Vegas and scoop some AaronU Glass!
Do you consume cannabis? If so, favorite strain? Favorite method of consumption? Definitely! Pretty much every day for a long time. I have had quite a few favorites over the years but I think my all time favorite is Sour D! All the new strains coming out are great too. Recently, I’m really diggin’ the Mendo Breath and Mimosa. I miss the old purples like GDP and Urkle! Those cold Tahoe winters make some some dark frosty indoor purps! I love a good blunt, smooth hitting rig, or bong. If i am using a hand pipe, it's usually a dope sherlock that one of my buddies made.
Can we find you on social media or the web? Definitely! You can follow me on Instagram @aaronuglass for the most recent pictures of my work. I am also on Facebook as Aaron Uretsky Glass Art, and Twitter @aaronuglass. I recently teamed up with an awesome videographer to bring some sweet clips, demos, and how-to videos to YouTube at AaronUGlass, and will be releasing some fresh new videos soon! If you are not on social media or just want to check out my website find me at aaronuglass.com

GLASSBLOWER SPOTLIGHT
HOOBS
A
>>> BY DUSTIN AMATO >>> PHOTOS BY A. REY, CLASSIC 33 dam Whobrey, aka Hoobs Glass is in now in his 16th year blowing glass. He has built a strong reputation within the glass community for his amazing work creating everything from Sneakers, Ratrods, Samurais, Aliens, Skulls, Chessboards, Sealife, Superheros, Mario Bros, Hunter S Thompson and even Glass Playing cards. His glass creations have sold for thousands of dollars and his work can be found in many heady collectionS and high end glass galleries around the world. But everyone has to start somewhere and Hoobs story is no different. Hoobs got his first glassblowing job/apprenticeship at a local skate/smoke shop in Hermosa Beach, California, a few miles from where young Adam grew up. The owner of the shop was friends with some glassblowers from Oregon who would come down from time to time and sell the shop glass. The skate shop owner had built up a small glassblowing studio in the back of the shop for the artists to work in when they came into town. At the time, not many shops had glassblowing studios setup inside of the shop, so he basically just lucked out. The owner played around with it occasionally but was not very technically skilled, however, he was able to pass on the basic knowledge and concepts for making a pipe. Without much other guidance he pretty much took it from there and taught himself. Hoobs first started making basic little production spoons, bowls and ash catchers all to sell inside the skate shop. After about a year and half of basic production he started designing his first pieces. Hoobs First Niche Hoobs was always blowing glass and the shop owner took notice of his consistent, constant work ethic and dedication to the craft. So he started giving Hoobs more
54
freedom to try new things with the glass. For the first couple years Hoobs would just look for inspiration in local smokeshops and try to recreate the shapes and patterns he saw. It wasn't until a couple years after leaving the skate shop that he felt he finally had a solid grasp on it. Being mainly selftaught can had many disadvantages, but that didnt hold him back. Hoobs caught his first niche making 6"-8" Sherlock and hammer style exterior colored push bowl bubblers. With a different type of hollow sculpture around the side that functioned as the carb. Most of the time he would add frogs or lizards or skulls, every couple years adding a new sculpture or 2 to the design. This time spent doing production is where he built his basic skills for sculpting glass. Only serious collectors would recognize they were old school Hoobs Bubbs as he is recognized much different work today.
It’s Gotta Be the Shoes
Hoobs first big break was when he started making smokeable glass shoes. Growing up in the densely populated urban market of LA there was just so much culture surrounding Hoobs. Smoking cannabis basically transcended thru almost all of it, he just started to look at all the things in his life and think about how he could bring what he loves to the glass art community. He looked for way to connect glassblowing to all these new cultures he was already apart of. Sneakers were perfect. Everyone that he knew who loved collecting sneakers including himself, also loved smoking weed. Before long his smokeable shoe rigs and dabbers were turning heads all over the US. He was so happy to see the reaction
from people who didn't necessarily know about Glass pipe-making as art before, but once they saw the glass sneakers completely understood. Connecting the culture and the collectable they instantly became glass fans, converting most to future collectors. He still re-creates his favorite shoes into functional glass art but has also moved on to other collections.
Fear and Loathing in Glass Vegas
One of the biggest jumps in his career was attending the glass trade shows in Las Vegas. He had been attending them for years with his friends just to party and have a great time, but in 2005 he went for business. It was a completely different experience and a nice change. His Shoes had taken off in popularity and he was able to meet new distributors that took his art to places around the globe. As an ode to all those trips, the ones he takes now, and one of my favorite authors of all time, Hoobs created the HST series. The series included Hunter S. Thompson inspired works, many were solos but also had some amazing collabs in the series. A new glass expo called Glass Vegas took a special liking to the series and commissioned him to create a signed and numbered series of pendants made with Northstar Glass colors in 2017 to help kick off their show. The pendants included a collectable poster that had all 50 skulls and a few pieces from his previously released series. This closed out his HST series and he has said he will never make another HST skull pendant again, making the ones in circulation a really limited edition rare treasure.
Glassblowing Adventures
Glass art is unique in that you often travel to places to work and collab with other artists in your medium. “It's been amazing to build the friendships I have in this industry. They have given me a network to be able to travel freely across
The House of Glass Cards that Hoobs Built
At the end of 2016, Hoobs really started to feel the need to try something new and experience the glass blowing medium in a completely new way. The freedom to explore is something that has drawn him to the glass and kept him there. As with many things in life, Hoobs will begin to lose interest in things very fast, almost an A.D.D. personality, but creating glass objects has been the one thing that he can stay 100% focused on for hours on end. As long as he is really pushing himself and exploring new boundaries in glass it never gets old for him. The playing cards came in a moment when he was looking for something new. The idea struck and at that moment the entire process flashed through his mind and he knew exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. He fell in love with the idea because cards are something that transcend every culture and have the potential to become a timeless

the country and have a place to work anywhere I go.“ Most recently Hoobs had the unique opportunity to work in Vienna, Austria and Frankfurt, Germany. Collaborating with worldwide brands like ROOR, was an amazing opportunity but he also loves working with fellow artists. Hoobs was recently included in a group show in Costa Rica hosted by his friend Elbo, where he was able to show off some of his latest creations to an all new audience, while partying with his friends. “It's hard to beat that,“ says Hoob. However, his greatest collaboration with friends occurred a lil closer to home. “My favorite collab right now is the 18 artist collab Pirate Ship we recently created for Ziggy's Annual So-Cal Classic.“ They are releasing a book later this year that will fully cover the project. So if you missed it, you will be able to get a detailed look at the project, the book will be available at all Ziggy's including Socal and Miami locations. Some of his favorite people to work with were on the pirate ship build so it made the experience extra rewarding, Hoobs said, “I just love to work with people who are into sculpting as much as me and work as hard as I do at it.“
piece recognized worldwide. One that in all the history of time has not been explored in glass with the depth Hoobs has created. For the majority of 2017 he has been developing and perfecting the card creation process and will hopefully release the first completed full deck in 2018. He has been previewing some of the individual cards thru his IG feed @hoobsglass until then.
Sculpting Glass Into Art
Sculpting in boro has been an extremely long road. After 15 years of experimentation, Hoobs has finally acquired the ability to re-create some of his favorite superheros nearly identical to the toys he once owned as a kid. “It definitely makes me feel like a kid again.“ Hoobs said in reference to his superhero creations. More recently he has really been pushing himself to sculpt real people and recreate their features in glass. At the video game championships, Hoobs was recently commissioned by Red Bull to create the street fighter champion “Snake Eyes“ with a glass version of himself, mixing the glass culture with the video game culture and pushing glass more into the mainstream. He offers this advice to other glass artists trying to sculpt. “Sculpting takes a lot of trial and error and a real serious approach to your craft; borosilicate glass is the hardest medium to make any sculpture with so you have to be seriously devoted if you want to progress.“ Since Hoobs has been doing this for over 16 years his work has reached places around the globe. You can find work by Hoobs in most high end galleries across the country, with a higher concentration of shops located on the West Coast, since
that's where he resides full time. Catch his next drop at Glass Vegas 2018.

Mom’s Guide to a Productive Medication Sesh >>>>>>>>>>>>>> By The Stoner Mom A wake and bake session with a potent sativa and a cup of joe is my favorite way to start the day. In this article, I tell you everything you need to know about how to prepare for a medication sesh that ends in productivity and positivity rather than a lethargic couch lock.
PreSesh

PREFILL TWO BOWLS. If you have a higher tolerance and consume more cannabis than others, try preparing two bowls at a time. Once the first one is done, plop in a fresh one. Easy peasy and you get to skip the step of cleaning and refilling a bowl. Also consider preparing two bongs for one session.
the sesh. This is also a great way to manage how much cannabis you’re consuming.
The Setup 2 LIGHTERS: Lighters are notorious for disappearing into the nether of the couch. Have a second on on hand so you don’t ruin the vibe.
START WITH CLEAN GLASS. Clean your glass pieces with 90% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) found in any grocery store. Seal holes with paper towels or saran wrap, add coarse salt and then shake it like a polaroid picture. Rinse and scrub with pipe cleaners raided from the kid's art supplies.
HAVE A BACKUP BOWL, STEM, AND PIPE. Nothing is worse than sitting down to smoke a bowl and then somehow breaking an essential piece, rendering the bong useless and you completely unsatisfied. Save yourself the misery and have backup methods for medicating, like a pipe, vaporizer, or rolling papers.
PREPARE THE WATER. If you’re using a bong or water pipe, taking some extra time to prep the water can make a big difference. Try filling your clean bong with cool water, and replace the water often. Use Ice if your bong has an ice catch, or try keeping your bong outside on a cool day before you sesh. Use snow in place of ice for an extra wintery treat.
THE CASE FOR THE BLUNT. I adore smoking a thick blunt, but because they aren’t the discreetest of methods I don’t get the opportunity to do so very often. But for a full on stoner session with no kids anywhere for miles? Give me a blunt everyday. Plus, switching up your consumption method helps you maintain a healthy tolerance.
HEMP WICK: Hemp wicks are a simple way to greatly increase the pleasure of the smoke sesh. Available from a plethora of vendors, hemp wicks allow you to skip using a lighter to smoke your bowls, resulting in greater flavor and no gas inhalation. They’re inexpensive and handy to have around the house too! Pro tip: use the candle to light your hemp wick every time and you can completely forgo having a lighter involved in your smoke session.
On the flip side, warm bong water can be extremely soothing on the throat and can cut back the coughing involved in a smoke sesh. Try both and see which you prefer. I prefer warm hits when I’m feeling under the weather and really need to medicate.
GRIND UP ENOUGH CANNABIS FOR THE ENTIRE SESH AT ONE TIME. I don’t like having to hold off on my second bowl because I need to grind weed. I prefer to do a lot of grinding at one time, and then to keep that ground cannabis in a container with me during
A POKING TOOL: I call these “pokeys” and they look like dental tools. You can find these tools at head shops, craft stores, and home improvement stores. Any sort of poking tool is great for debowling a bowl, and if you have nothing on hand try uncooked spaghetti,
CANDLE: I light a candle for all sit down smoke sessions. The smell, the ritual, the convenience when using with hemp wick, candles have become a stoner session enhancement that I can’t give up.
toothpicks, or a bamboo skewer from the kitchen. There are also ashtrays with built in debowlers, perfect for any dedicated smoke sesh. HERB GRINDER: Eventually, every stoner decides they want a grinder. These save your finger tips, manicures, and they usually have a built in kief catcher to really enhance your experience. You can find grinders easily online or in your local head shop. MEASURING SPOON OR SCOOP: One of the questions I am most frequently asked on my YouTube channel is, what is the little spoon I use to scoop my cannabis. It makes me laugh every time I get this question because the spoon is literally just a ¼ teaspoon that I stole from my kitchen and repurposed for my own stoner needs. Advice, next time you’re at Target, look at everything from a stoners perspective. CONTAINER FOR GROUND CANNABIS. If you follow my advice and grind all at one time, find a small container to keep it in, don’t just keep it in your grinder. Grinders are a frequent offender for being dropped when grabbed by the top, and spilled cannabis is definitely worth crying over. DRINKING WATER. I have a glass of ice water every time I smoke weed. Fortunately since I smoke so much weed this means that I also drink a

lot of water. Everybody wins! *note: If the sesh is a wake and bake, coffee is required. A HEALTHY SNACK FOR THE MUNCHIES. If you’re the type who needs to snack when you’re high, definitely consider preparing your snack before you get stoned. We make terrible dietary decisions when under the influence. Use the power of the munchies in your favor by preparing a snack plate of clean, healthy and filling foods. Crackers and cheese with ample fruit and nuts is a personal favorite, as are the classic “ants on a log” (celery with raisins and peanut butter). AUDIO ENHANCEMENTS. I believe that every stoner needs a personal stoner playlist. Something you don’t have to think about, it’s already ready to go. I also love listening to podcasts when I’m stoned or getting stoned. Something about not having the TV on but still being pulled into a story works wonderfully with getting high. DAY PLANNER, NOTEBOOK, PEN AND PENCIL. I often have brilliant ideas when stoned, don’t you? But stoners aren’t known for their excellent memories, so for goodness sake be prepared to write it down!
The Sesh BE MINDFUL OF YOUR TIME. Have a time or amount limit. It's always a personal call, how much weed makes you feel what way. Just enough makes you energized, more might bring on couch lock, so know your habits and limits and stick to a time schedule that allows for plenty of medication time but doesn’t last all day.
If you’re a medical user be sure to schedule enough time to properly medicate, especially if it’s the first sesh of the day. TAKE NOTES. As you bake you often have realizations of things you want to get done. Record those things so they don't elude you post sesh. HAVE RULES FOR PHONES AND TV. We tend to get stoned and stare at our phones. Maybe we're playing Candy Crush. Maybe we're stalking Reddit. Maybe we're spending too much time on the gram. Either way, have rules in place before you start! If you’re not planning on watching TV for the next two hours, don’t turn the TV on in the first place. NO JUDGMENT, EVEN FOR YOURSELF. Even if you're a parent. Everyone has a right to self-care, and cannabis is a part of that! Civil disobedience is okay. Be responsible and stand up for what you believe in. HAVE A PLAN WRITTEN OUT. If you are prone to wasting your stoned time and really want to take advantage of the energy rush a good sativa strain can bring you, then write down a plan for how to spend the next three hours.Take control of your life, and don't let the hours slip away just because you are stoned. AVOIDING COUCH LOCK. Keep moving! The floor is lava. The couch is covered in spikes. Get outside, play with the pets, sit in a window and

let in the light. Keep the TV off. Use podcasts as background noise since they have no visual component vying for your attention. Play loud music, grab your to-do list, and get on it! It’s all about motivation and telling your laziness, “not today”.
makes you sick, time to lay down. Put on a favorite album and lay down with your eyes closed. Looks like you may need to work on your tolerance.
RELIEVE COUGHING. Have water at every stoner session, try sucking ice, stand up during a coughing fit, take shallow breaths, or try taking several deep breaths. Have warm tea with honey or a creamy coffee. Fresh air can help as well, so try stepping outside.
to hide from others when we are ill or in pain. This is counterintuitive so if you’ve got a supporter in the house, time to stick close to them. Do not hang around people who are overly negative, judgemental or critical when stoned (or ever).
DON'T HOLD IN THE SMOKE! It doesn't work, it doesn't make you "higher", and it's not good for you. A three-second hold maximum is all it takes for the body to absorb cannabinoids.
• GIVE YOURSELF A PASS TO ZONE OUT ON YOUR PHONE OR NAP. We can’t all be power stoners. When you’ve overindulged it’s time to turn in the towel until you are feeling better.
If you feel too high • EAT EAT EAT! Give in to the munchies. Food can comfort and ground you. • MOVE AROUND OR LAY DOWN. A change of scenery often helps, and don’t underestimate the healing power of the sun. If you can, try walking around. If walking

fter successfully using cannabis oil to put breast cancer into remission - while doing away with numerous prescription medications and supplements - five years ago, I’ve since learned about Apothecary and the benefits of keeping plant-based concentrates in my system for healing and prevention.
Apothecary is what used to be the main method of treating and preventing illness in the world, up until the 1940s, when synthetic medications via petroleum by-products were developed. Apothecary is the practice of using beneficial plant-based materials to create medicine. The healing properties of plants are found in its essential oils, or terpenes, and are easily stripped from plants for this purpose. Basically, if you can steep a tea or reduce a sauce, you can make medicine from the garden. Throughout my day I have a variety of what are called, deliveries of plant-based tonics, tinctures, and topicals - keeping illness at bay, and helping with symptoms from real illness. Keeping plant-based concentrates in our bodies, feeding our Endocannabinoid System (eCS), prevents myriad ailments as well as strengthens the immune system, naturally.
Spiced Rum Ingredients: One liter of brown rum 1/4 cup ground cannabis (stems, leaf, flower; or crystal shake) 1 cinnamon stick 1 t. whole cloves 6-8 whole cardamom pods 1 t. vanilla
Directions:
One of my favorite daily doses at the end of the day is enjoying what used to be referred to as a tonic. Next to hot water steeping, alcohol infusion is one of the oldest ways of making medicine, as the plant resins bind very well to the liquid. I’m not a drinker, per se, but I do enjoy one or two tonics at a sitting. Any more than that and the alcohol makes me feel, well… stupid. The other benefit of infusing cannabis and other beneficial plants into a tonic is, most of the benefits reduce inflammation and infection – which cause headaches and hangovers – making tonics a win, win situation the next day. I typically feel better, not worse, after my tonics.
Add ingredients to bottle of rum and put it in a cool, dark cupboard for one to two weeks, shaking often. Strain using cheesecloth, decant. I like to make rum and coke, but this spiced rum can be used with any spiced rum recipe. Be mindful, if you make a Hot Toddy, the THC will become activated.
Infusing alcohol in a cold-process is also a non-psychoactive delivery, as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is only activated by heat – therefore, this type of tonic will not cause a psychoactive response. Because I don’t always want to get “high,” I just want to heal and be well.
Ingredients:
Albeit, there was that one time I brought my tonic on a road trip and the heat of the car activated the THC. And, if you add an infused Kahlua to a cup of hot coffee, know it will fully activate the THC. Following are a few of my favorite recipes. You can find more on my website, www.sharonletts.com, in the Apothecary page.
Calming Vodka One liter of vodka 1/4 cup ground plant material (leaf, stem flower) 1/4 cup chamomile flower (not necessary to grind) Two slices of citrus peel (I like grapefruit)
Directions: Follow same steeping method above. I like to use fresh squeezed grapefruit to make this tonic, with a wedge of lime. The chamomile is calming and makes a good nightcap. Visit my website, sharonletts.com, for information on chamomile’s healing benefits. Fine Print: This article is based on simple apothecary. It’s what I do at home. Other’s

techniques and outcomes may vary. Always mark your products with a label, noting if the product has activated THC for safety. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

1 tablespoon lime juice 1 tablespoon sesame oil infused 1 gram distillate 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari) 1/2 cup pickled ginger dried on dry clothe 1/2 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated (optional) DIRECTIONS: First, prepare your tofu by pressing it well so it properly absorbs the maximum amount of flavor when cooked. Slice the pressed tofu into thin strips. Heat the soy sauce, olive oil, sesame oil and ginger in a skillet and sautĂŠ the tofu for 5-7 minutes, just until lightly crisp. Remove from pan and place on paper towels to allow to drain fully (you don't want any extra moisture in your tofu spring rolls). In a large bowl, toss together the tofu with the cabbage, carrots, and noodles. Submerge spring roll wrappers in warm water just until soft and pliable one at a time. Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the tofu and veggie mixture on an individual wrapper, horizontally and just below the centerline.

CALIFORNIA DREAM ROLLS INGREDIENTS: 4 cups water 2 cups uncooked white rice 1/2 cup seasoned rice vinegar 1 teaspoon white sugar, or as needed 1 teaspoon salt, or as needed 1/4 pound cooked crab meat, drained of excess liquid and shredded 1 tablespoon mayonnaise infused with 1 teaspoon MCT oil with 1 gram distillate infused mayonnaise 5 sheets nori (dry seaweed) 1 avocado, sliced 1 English cucumber, seeded and sliced into strips 2 tablespoons drained pickled ginger, for garnish 2 tablespoons soy sauce, or to taste 1 tablespoon wasabi paste Add all ingredients to list
DIRECTIONS: Wrap a sushi rolling mat completely in plastic wrap and set aside. Bring water and rice to a boil in a saucepan over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer rice to a bowl and cut in rice vinegar with wooden spoon. Season with 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste. Allow to cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Combine crab meat with infused mayonnaise in a small bowl. Place a sheet of nori on a flat work surface. Spread a thin layer of rice on top of the nori. Place the nori, rice side up, on the prepared rolling mat. Place 2 to 3 avocado slices on top of the nori in one layer. Top with 2 to 3 tablespoons of the crab mixture. Spoon 1 to 2 teaspoons tobiko lengthwise on one side of the avocado-crab mixture, and 2 cucumber strips on the other side. Using the mat as a guide, carefully roll the California roll into a tight log. Remove the rolling mat. Remove the plastic and cut roll into 6 even pieces using a wet knife. Repeat with remaining sheets of nori and filling. Serve garnished with pickled ginger, soy sauce, and wasabi paste.
THAI PEANUT SAUCE INGREDIENTS: 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 cup cold water 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon white vinegar 2 teaspoons sesame oil infused with 1 gram distillate 1 cup warm water 1/4 cup chopped peanuts (optional) 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves (optional) DIRECTIONS: Dissolve the cornstarch in 1/2 cup of cold water; set aside. Whisk together the soy sauce, peanut butter, brown sugar, white vinegar, sesame oil, and 1 cup warm water in a small saucepan over medium heat; simmer and stir until sugar has dissolved. Stir in the cornstarch mixture; simmer until the sauce is thick, 1 or 2 minutes. Serve warm. Garnish with chopped peanuts and mint leaves as desired.
