he most tangible link that Las Vegas has to the history of glass art might be Dave Chihuly’s “Fiori di Como”. On display in the Bellagio’s registration lobby, the opulent glass ceiling piece is the artist’s interpretation of Italian flowers in springtime. The artwork, which some conjecture is worth about $3,000,000, weighs 40,000 pounds. There are more than 2,000 flowers displayed in the glass garden. Art galleries like Chihuly Gallery and Domsky Glass also exhibit glass in Vegas. Early next year, Jerome Baker Designs (JBD), the legendary glassworks company, will open Jerome Baker Designs

JEROME BAKER COMES TO VEGAS Gallery and Jerome Baker Designs Studios in the Vegas Arts District. Jason Harris, founder and lead artist at JBD, designed the state-ofthe-art glassblowing program at the University of Oregon. He is founder of the Eugene Glass School, an Oregon non-profit. JBD Gallery will feature Harris’ work, and the work of renowned glass artists worldwide. JBD Studios will be a state-of-theart glassblowing studio betokening of Harris’ work. “We’re bringing a diverse range of artists to the studio from all over the world,” Harris told Vegas Cannabis. “We will host the best for a week or two at a time, and treat them Las Vegas style.” Harris cemented his legacy in the early nineties through his ‘old school’ pieces. Color-
changing graphics, intricate interpretations of redwoods, lizards, and frogs earned him national attention. He took home the High Time’s glass award in 1998, 2000 and 2002. Perhaps one day at the JBD Gallery, visitors will see displayed Harris’ 2016 collaboration with NASTEE glass: an $18,000 nug jug for Snoop Dogg that holds one pound of herb. Harris fell in love with the Arts District over years of visiting Vegas for industry events, and ragers with the celebrities for whom he designed glass. JBD Studios and Gallery will hold contemporary art exhibitions, immersive experiences, art classes, music showcases, and more. Harris already has an artist scheduled for the inaugural exhibit, but he can’t yet name
him. “He just made a Banksylevel splash and is laying low for legal reasons,” says Harris, who makes his home in Maui. “He specializes in luxurious pieces starting at upwards of $20,000. These pieces we have coming out of Jerome Baker Studios will be available exclusively in our Vegas showroom.” Harris will concurrently open a social club on location. Visitors will need a JBD-issued cryptographic token to enter. They will enjoy exclusive access to the various Harris-curated artists. “We’ll host meetand-greets, exhibits and other events focused around our guests,” says Harris. “We won’t just limit this to $20,000 pieces, either. We are definitely involved in the high end of glass, but we are not exclusive. It’s all about art.”
VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM
Early next year, Harris will put on show his “massive bong series” at the new gallery. “We will be in Seattle in November with Leafly, the large cannabis company, to make a massive giant bong as part of the ‘Blown Away’ series,” Harris said. “Some of these bongs weigh in at over ninety pounds and are a spectacle to watch being created.” His oil and acrylic paintings will be presented, as well. Images of experimental and collaboration pieces, as well as scantily clad women, are strewn throughout the Official Jerome Baker Instagram (https://www. instagram.com/jerome_ baker/). The bio reads ‘imagination is your only limitation.’ This is a philosophy by which Harris lives. “We have the ability to create anything out of glass you can think up with your imagination,” he says. “Anything from chandeliers to stairwells to table tops. I can make anything with glass thanks to the glass schools and the valuable knowledge they’ve imparted, and I try and impart this knowledge as much as possible.” Harris has recently overseen JBD’s expansion beyond glass and into ancillary cannabis markets with the Jerome Baker Cannabis Collection (JBCC). “Anything that has to do with cannabis from glass tips for prerolled joints to handmade custom glass jars,” he says. His idea to expand his operations beyond glass
started after he designed some glass packaging. “I decided I wanted to do packaging designed with an artist’s intuition,” Harris recalls. “We made glass tips for large pre-rolled companies, and also a nug jug based on the old school JBD designs. We have tips and glass jars, and plans to make even more extravagant tips, glass tubes and glass packs for prerolls.” Harris is busy rendering assorted artistic designs for the JBCC packaging. “I have handshakes with numerous gardens, who will choose their favorite packaging for presentation at the dispensary.” Harris describes what he sees as a series of collaborations with certain farms, and mentions arrangements in Nevada, Colorado, California, Oregon and Washington. In essence, JBD is creating a licensing network and collaboration program throughout the U.S., and one day soon internationally. The JBD brand differs from other celebrity branding efforts, which often use the face of a musician or entertainer. JBD has instead, since the early nineties, been a brand name in the cannabis industry. The company’s newest line of glass includes the ‘Bakerbot’ series, old school style pieces, glass necklaces, and Tipper’s glass and bamboo joint tips. He also designed the bottle for Compass Water, which is in the shape of a JBD bong. Harris is in the process of vetting new growers and farms for JBCC, especially

in Nevada. JBD will be headquartered in the same facility as the gallery, studio and social club. “I’ve spent time at grows and extraction facilities to evaluate product,” he says. “I know firsthand how, in terms of the quality of what’s going on here, Nevada is going to surprise a lot of people.” The move to Vegas makes sense. Harris recalls many-a-night in Vegas with well-known acts. “So many of the main players in U.S. culture smoke weed, and I’ve long been the bong guy,” he says. “I’ve been able to make people all sorts of things - paraphernalia or not. In Vegas, we’ve been backstage and raged with Carlos Santana, Slayer, 311, and who knows who else.” The veteran cannabis industry entrepreneur hosts here ASD’s Culture Plus, an ancillary cannabis products trade show. The next edition is scheduled for March 1114, 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. “This show spotlights some of the larger companies in the industry,” Harris explained. “It also offers buyers the opportunity to purchase closeouts and other large scale inventory additions for their stores.” In 2017, Harris held there the first glassblowing demonstration.
industry trade shows” he says. “The majority of our industry’s shows take place here. It seemed logical to have a showroom, as well as a social club, for buyers to visit when they are in town for shows.” He adds: “Now that cannabis laws have relaxed, the evolution in Vegas has been of historic proportions. I remember when it was totally illegal to possess cannabis in the state. Today, it is set to become the cannabis sales center globally. People come from everywhere to Vegas and buy paraphernalia for inventory.” Harris encourages those interested in collaborating with him to reach out to Laurie@jeromebaker.com. A few questions for Jason Harris, creator of Jerome Baker Designs BY "SAUCEY" JACK LONG What made you choose Vegas to bring your shop to? The lights of the city, the party atmosphere, the gambling, these things have always been a Vegas attraction for me. I’ve been coming to Las Vegas for many years throughout my glassblowing career for various reasons. Some of my best, most memorable experiences in the art of the sale of glass have happened in Vegas. The first trade show I ever attended was at the Alexis Park Hotel in 1994. I went to every show after that and those experiences proved to be a fertile learning ground for what I call an essential aspect of being an artist, being able to sell your work. All of this, on the ground experience throughout the years has left a special place in my heart for Las Vegas. In the past year, Vegas’ local cannabis scene has proven to be an epicenter of our newfound big green rush. All these factors made Las Vegas the prime spot for our new Jerome Baker Designs world headquarters. You are moving to the Arts District, do you have plans to connect with the local artists and shops? We plan on doing monthly art shows based on cannabis influenced lifestyle and culture. We will have a world-class glassblowing/flameworking facility. Visitors will be able to have unique custom-
made and crafted works of functional glass made before their very eyes. Guests will be encouraged to try out the functional glass artwork. We are excited to work with local artists to create collaborations that would’ve otherwise never been created before. How long have you been blowing glass, what was your motivation to start this craft and, how has your world changed from then to now? I’ve been blowing glass since 1991. I was an art major at the University of Oregon finding my way as a printmaker. I was blessed enough to meet a wizard named Bob Snodgrass that lived in the forest near Eugene. The first time I went to Bob’s house I was overwhelmed with a sense of purity, magic and graciousness. I was blessed to be able to get an understanding of glassblowing through Bob Snodgrass. At that point, I found myself as an artist and began to develop my glassblowing career. The glassblowing world has changed exponentially since I began my career. Play makers and functional glass artists are much more accepted in the mainstream public today than they were in the early 90s. How long have you been in Hawaii? What brought you there?
I’ve lived on Maui, Hawaii for the past twelve years. I came to Hawaii to blow glass and experience life in a new and different way. I surf often and spend time with my family. Hawaii provides a place for inspiration in many different facets of life. Here, I am inspired to create all types of glass, including pipes of whales, seahorses and anything else your imagination can think of.
piece is upwards of 80 pounds. We’re currently on tour making these pieces in a variety of cities, inviting the public and to watch our creation build. Our next project is with Leafly and we are making glass for four days in Seattle, Washington with some of the members of the Dale Chihuly Glassblowing Team. The pieces represent a massive amount of work and will not be like anything that has been made before.
You travel a lot, have you tried a variety of cannabis in your travels? Favorite strain?
What artists inspire you? What advice would you give to young people wanting to get into the glass blowing field?
I’ve traveled all over, I’ve tried many different strains, and I enjoy being able to taste the rainbow. I’ve traveled to Amsterdam a lot over the years and I’ve always been team to Haze varieties of strains. Neville’s Haze and other Haze strains represent an incredible dank flavor that is unforgettable. I was able to visit the Cannabis Castle in the early 90s and I met Ben and Alan Dronkers and I got to see Neville one night. That had a long lasting effect on me and now whenever I visit dispensaries I ask for their premier Haze. Do you have a favorite glass creation? If so, what is it and why is it your fav? At this point, my favorite glass creation is the massive bong series that we’re doing. Each
I’m inspired by many artists but the ones that inspired me most are the ones that have stuck with their passion. It’s a very hard lifestyle and career to commit to. Artists have to be able to accept rejection the majority of the time. Any young people that want to get into glassblowing, whether to become a glassblower as a career or just a hobby should learn from somebody that knows the craft well. There’s no reason to reinvent the wheel, it’s an ancient art that’s been done for over 5000 years. There are so many resources to choose from. The one recommendation I would give to newbies in the glassblowing world is to go to the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington, it will deathly change your life.

CANNABIS iS GLOBAL

>>>
BY CINDY ORSER, PHD. DIGIPATH LABS
annabis is widely cultivated and trafficked around the world, from North America and Europe to Israel and Australia both legally and illicitly. Globally, about 2.25% of the population consumes cannabis. When you think of the legal cannabis industry as an American, you think primarily of Colorado and California, but the progression of cannabis legalization is not limited to the United States. Both medical and recreational cannabis make up a multi-billion dollar global industry. Lawful cannabis programs have already been implemented in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, Italy, Israel, and the Czech Republic regardless of global drug policy. Most of these countries regulate cannabis as a medicine. So, while the U.S. may appear to be progressive when it comes to cannabis as we approach a two-thirds majority on the topic, we are lagging behind other key countries such as Canada and Israel, which already have operational national cannabis medical programs and are both set to enact recreational programs soon. Israel in particular is at least 10 years ahead of the U.S. in instituting standardization in the production and extraction of cannabis for clinical trials leading to patented drug products eager to gain FDA approval and entry into the very lucrative prescription drug market in the U.S. companies stateside will need to play catch up or get a little adventurous in partnering outside of the country.
This verdant global cannabis market is blossoming. U.S. cannabis companies who partner with truly cannabis-progressive countries and players in those arenas can gain entry into this very viable global cannabis import-export industry. Let’s take Open-Vape, founded in Denver in 2012, as an example of a company that has recently acquired an export-import license to grow cannabis in Jamaica, outdoors. Open-Vape manufactures and distributes vape pen oil-filled cartridges to 1,200+ retail locations across a distribution network of licensed affiliates in Colorado, California, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Mexico, Jamaica, Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada, Poland, Ireland, Scotland, and South Africa from cannabis grown outdoors in Jamaica for pennies a gram but they couldn’t ship that same product across state lines from Colorado to say Nevada! In the meantime, we all stand around waiting for the FDA and the DEA to make a move toward de-scheduling. Setting aside the knowledge that the U.S. is behind and slipping in medical cannabis innovation, another consequence of a mushrooming global cannabis industry is that the wholesale price will plummet and the individual cultivator’s status will decline as the focus will be on the raw material; which 90% of will be extracted. How can you compete with your $1.20 per gram indoor growing costs in the U.S. with 20 cents per gram grown outdoors abroad with cheap labor? Obviously, cannabis like most other commodity crops should be grown outdoors in the glorious free sunshine sucking up CO2 instead of adding 4,600 pounds of CO2 for every pound of cannabis produced indoors. That’s right, according to Mother Jone’s, the electricity used by the combined indoor cannabis grows is enough to power 1.7 million homes or the equivalent of 7 large power plants. And that other 10% of the cannabis growers will become the artists to the true cannabis connoisseurs. The particular cultivar, terpene mix and growing matrix will matter, the defined genotype, registered cultivar matched to the perfect living soil matrix on a south facing slope somewhere exotic in the world. And the cost of that pot, yeah you can’t afford it!

n England, prohibition came in 1928, and in the U.S., came in 1937 in the form of the Marihuana Tax Act. By 1937, over 2,000 medicinal cannabis products existed, produced by over 280 manufacturers in England, Germany and the United States. After Congress passed the Controlled Substances Act in 1970, drugs were designated into five categories and cannabis was placed in the strictest category known as Schedule 1. Our first major victory didn’t happen until 1996 when California passed the country’s first medical marijuana legislation, Prop 215, with help from Oaksterdam faculty. Faculty members helped organize volunteers to collect more than the necessary 400,000 signatures on the petition to get Prop 215 on the ballot. Prop 215 passed with 55.6% of the vote. Eight years later Oaksterdam University faculty helped author Senate Bill 420 known as the Medical Marijuana Program Act. In 2010 Oaksterdam University spearheaded the Prop 19 campaign. It was California’s first attempt to tax, control and regulate cannabis in America. Skip ahead to 2016, California became the most populated place in the world to legalize cannabis for adult-use with Prop 64, the “Control, Regulate, and Tax Adult Use of Marijuana” Act. Oaksterdam University faculty were involved in helping advise and author Prop 64 and MCRSA (Medical Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act) that Governor Jerry Brown signed into law that year. It’s been over 20 years since the Oaksterdam community began and 10 years since OU was founded, where the founders and staff provided a safe place to medicate, educate and commiserate. We have persevered due to the dedication you have shown fighting for cannabis as medicine, constitutional rights, equity, and social justice. That is why it is so important that we celebrate these milestones when we achieve them. This November 18th, hundreds will gather in downtown Oakland, CA overlooking beautiful Lake Merritt. We will gather to celebrate Oaksterdam University’s 10-year anniversary providing a workforce and quality training for the cannabis industry. We will begin with a graduation ceremony for students that passed exams from April of 2012 until the present. Following the graduation ceremony, we will kick off a delightful dinner and O’Dammy Awards Ceremony followed by festivities, jubilation, live entertainment, exhibitors, education and everything else Oaksterdam.
Come celebrate the most eventful decade in the history of cannabis policy reform with your fellow freedom fighters, policymakers and industry pioneers for the most important and historic reunion of our time. The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers
If you have caught the news anytime in the past month, there is no doubt you have seen the buzz around the marijuana sales figures in Nevada since it became legal to purchase everybody’s favorite herbal remedy for recreational use on July 1, 2017. The initial reports coming out show that Nevada dispensaries generated more than $27 million in marijuana sales in the month of July alone! While these numbers are not shocking to those of us who have been in and around the cannabis industry for some time now, they should be eye-opening for those sitting idly on the cannabis sidelines contemplating whether to foray into the cannabis industry somehow. The potential money to be made in the cannabis business in Nevada is causing a quiet feeding frenzy when it comes to businesses trying to get their foot in the door and cornering the marketplace. For example, some risky folks are setting up shop and conducting business without first ensuring they have all the proper city and/or county marijuana licensure – all in the name of elevating their product awareness above other legally-compliant and duly-licensed businesses. Another spoton example of this frenzy is playing out in the Nevada Supreme Court between Nevada’s alcohol distributors and the Department of Taxation.
For example, some risky folks are setting up shop and conducting business without first ensuring they have all the proper city and/or county marijuana licensure – all in the name of elevating their product awareness above other legally-compliant and duly-licensed businesses. So what is that fight all about? And why are alcohol distributors kicking up dust and involving themselves in Nevada’s burgeoning cannabis industry? The problem begins with the Initiative to Regulate and Tax Marijuana that the citizens of Nevada voted on and approved in November 2016 which allows us to consume and purchase cannabis legally. The ballot measure that was passed explicitly provided licensed alcohol distributors the exclusive right to transport and distribute recreational marijuana for the first 18 months. This is surprising to those who may have been too focused on the shiny object at the end of the road (i.e. legal weed) to even care what the actual wording of the Initiative was. And who could blame the voters? I am sure many would agree that it was important to get recreational use legal, and work out the kinks later! But some savvy people in the alcohol distribution circles must have seen the potential money here, as they were somehow able to get a quasi-monopoly written directly in to the Initiative. Here’s where things really got shaken up in this distribution fight: although we voted to give alcohol distributors the exclusive right to distribute recreational marijuana, there was a built-in caveat – the exclusivity ceases if the Department of Taxation, “determines that an insufficient number of marijuana distributors will result from this limitation.” NRS 453D.210(3). And with recreational sales booming in early July, there was a legitimate concern that dispensaries would run out of product. To be clear – there was never a shortage of actual marijuana. The issue was that there were no alcohol distributors that had obtained the license to distribute and transfer the marijuana to the dispensaries. So it became a question of, could the marijuana get to the dispensaries so the people could purchase it?
32
As a result, on July 6, 2017, the Department of Taxation issued a Statement of Emergency and on August 10, 2017, formally made the determination that there was an insufficient number of licensed alcohol distributors to serve the recreational cannabis industry alone. This should have allowed the Department of Taxation to issue marijuana distribution licenses to those who already handle the distribution aspect of Nevada’s medical marijuana program. However, wanting to keep their potential 18 month recreational marijuana distribution monopoly alive, the alcohol distributors appealed the matter up to the Nevada Supreme Court – which has issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the Department of Taxation from issuing licenses to anyone other than a licensed alcohol distributor until further notice. On October 3, 2017, the Nevada Supreme Court heard oral arguments from both sides of this fight. The alcohol distributors largely contend that the process the Department of Taxation used to make their determination was violative of due process and that the outcome of the August 10th Department of Taxation meeting was simply the rubber-stamping of a predetermined outcome. They also argue that no “real” emergency exists by way of a potential shortage of marijuana and that the entire Statement of Emergency should be disregarded. On the other hand, the Department of Taxation contends that Governor Sandoval’s budget relies on the tax revenue expected to be generated from recreational marijuana sales. Thus, the Department argues any shortage or slow-down in marijuana sales could have been disastrous to the budget and hence, justified their position that there was an emergency. The Nevada Supreme Court is expected to issue a ruling in the next couple of months. Until then, the alcohol distributors remain the only entities entitled to receive a marijuana distribution license and transport recreational marijuana to the dispensaries. Hopefully the alcohol distributors are able to keep up with the high demand for cannabis and ensure the dispensary shelves are stocked! If not, there may be many of you reaching back out to the old-school “distribution system” and getting the product that way – which of course defeats the whole purpose of Nevada regulating and taxing marijuana sales in the first place! We are another month into legal marijuana use and sales in Nevada, and it appears that we are off to a great – but frenzied – start! Let’s hope that by time we bring 2017 to a close, we finally have answers to some of the lingering questions surrounding the cannabis industry in Nevada – do the alcohol distributors get a monopoly on distribution? Where can tourists legally consume marijuana? Are we going to get marijuana lounges? And where does this tax money actually go? To that end, in an effort to help educate the masses, I will continue to get on my soap-box and keep everyone in the loop as things progress, and using as little legalese as possible. As always, stay safe, stay legal, and #StayWoke!

naware and vulnerable the couple slept, as did the little dog at their feet. It was the wee hours of the morning. Safe to assume the three were in the realm of REM sleep, as none were alerted to the intruder's’ presence. Within seconds, the couple and their dog were abruptly awakened by the blades of knives piercing their bodies. Rapidly tearing through pajamas, randomly ripping deep into their arms, legs, torso, neck and faces. Even their little dog whimpered and cried in pain as he was randomly attacked along with his owners. Unable to see anything in the still dark bedroom, the couple could only make out two shadowy figures wearing scarves and the glimmer of knives as they rose then came down again, causing more pain and drawing more blood from their once restful, but now adrenalin-shocked bodies. Though it seemed like forever the brutal attack was over in less than ten minutes. The attackers spoke not a word leaving their three victims for dead, lying in blood soaked sheets. Mumbling something unintelligible, she watched her husband struggle to unravel himself from the wet, twisted bedding. After several more minutes of laboring, he was finally able to get himself to a sitting position as he searched for his cell phone. Through blurred eyes brimming with tears she could see their little dog was motionless, no longer whimpering. I had been provided minimal details of the attack when hired by the man’s employees. They requested I cook a week’s worth of meals, entrees and side dishes. When briefed on what had happened, I decided to include a couple of salads and desserts as my gift. It had been three or four weeks since the attack when I arrived at their home. She opened the door only slightly even though I had seen an eye peer through the peephole. Wearing a weak smile that mimicked her weakened body she greeted me as she opened the door to expose a

clean foyer. Was I expecting blood stains? Not meaning to, I hesitated, then introduced myself and took one step forward. Her first full sentence was, “It must feel weird to walk in here.” I assured her it didn’t, but had difficulty averting my eyes from the bandages wrapped around both her arms. Scabs were still evident on her face. There was a fresh eye-patch over her right eye. Without seeing them, I was certain she had bandages on her legs and torso since she walked cautiously and slowly as she led me further into the house. Just then her husband came down the stairs. His bandages extended from his arms to his hands. He must have tried to grab the knives. There were large squares of gauze held with white tape on his neck as well as his legs, exposed due to the shorts he chose to wear. The little dog followed closely behind him, wearing one of those cones around his neck. He too, was bandaged but of the three, had the most spring in his step. After some small talk, the couple and their dog left me alone in the house. I felt relief at seeing a small bathroom just off the kitchen. I wouldn’t have to stray through the house looking for one. Because I had been hired by the husband’s employees I could only glean basic information about the types of food the couple enjoyed. His staff didn’t know for sure whether there were any food allergies to consider or serious dislikes. So I did my best to plan meals that were popular with most other clients and would be easy for this couple to heat and consume. I began unloading the bags of groceries I had purchased and sorted them along the counter in order of preparation. Knowing the circumstances of my hiring, I decided to prepare dishes and meals that would not only nourish but aide in the healing process. Oddly enough, as I began mincing the onions, garlic and shallots, I felt at peace in a house that had recently been invaded with violent intent. The sun shone
By Deborah Costella through the sliding glass doors off the breakfast nook, warming the kitchen and dining room. It was as though nature was doing her best to redirect one’s attention away from the event that had occurred. Outside I could see a well tended herb garden, along with remnants of tomato plants and string beans. A non-fruiting cherry tree was beginning to blossom reassuring the residents spring would hold to her annual promise of a fresh start. It was almost comforting. Strained comfort perhaps, but I was not nearly as bothered as one might think. When cooking at home I usually have a glass of red wine to the right of my cutting board and music, such as Erik Satie or Motown, playing in the background. But when I cook for clients in their homes, I opt out of music, television and wine. I don’t want any distractions. I want to see, smell and hear the food as it cooks. This was never truer for me than on this particular job. The one thing I did make sure to add to each dish was the less common ingredient; Spirit. *

My book club just finished reading and discussing a book I can honestly say has been a game-changer for me; The Language Of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh. I was mesmerized as I read page after page, each chapter educating and delighting me. Miss Diffenbaugh’s story exposed an entirely new world of communication and study in the language of flowers; floriography. As I read I grew increasingly enraptured with how each character used a particular flower, shrub, herb and even tree, to express love, sympathy, confusion, hurt and on a few occasions, anger. I found most of the definitions and meanings associated with flora intriguing. Many were spot on, a few were confusing even contradictory. For example when presenting someone with angelica you convey inspiration.
VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM
Baby’s breath relates to innocence or one pure of heart. Cactus expresses endurance. These meanings are logical to me. Corn is associated with riches, daisies are for innocence, and lavender invokes grace. However, meanings and expressions can differ for the same flower depending upon the colouring or age of the plant. We all know, roses convey love. While a bouquet of pink roses, declares new love. Give someone a rose of sharon and you’re telling the recipient you’re consumed by love. Yellow roses can get confusing. The general message associated with yellow roses is asking someone to forgive and forget. Yellow roses can also indicate infidelity, in which case you would definitely have to ask for forgiveness. Conversely, yellow is used to express joy, happiness and affection. So, what am I referring to when I give you a lush, healthy, forest green hemp plant? Besides, being a rather generous gift, I am expressing the concept of fate. After reading the book I began to research the meaning and sentiment of other herbs I use in my cooking. Oregano is birth, her herbal sister marjoram speaks of money, happiness or health and protection. Parsley proclaims festivity. Sage speaks to a long life, health and esteem. Rosemary foretells of remembrance. I now realize that I’ve been applying my own language of herbs and spices to the dishes and meals I have cooked for family, friends, and clients, all along! My use of cannabis has been doing more than just adding a layer of medicinal value to my baked goods and savory dishes. I have been introducing fate in some form that neither my customers nor I have been aware of. Have I been changing fate? Tempting fate? Slightly realigning fate? Or, can I surmise it was fate that brought this multi-dimensional plant into the realm of cultivation? How has fate played a role in the conflict and contradiction of a socially unacceptable status with that of a medicinal and all-purpose plant? In my humble, chef’s opinion, I see hemp’s
fate to be consistent with the definition itself. It appears hemp products, which include cannabis, are indeed meant to be here on this planet and are not happenstance. Nature appears to have allowed the chemical compounds of this hearty, dioecious plant, to be cultivated, nurtured and utilized. I thought about other naturally occurring botanicals, specifically tobacco and wheat. Both of which have naturally occurring benefits and medicinal properties, but have been altered by their respective industries. The chemical additives to both tobacco and wheat have resulted in far less health benefits in exchange for financial ones. As I cooked in that warm and sunny kitchen, I took time to acknowledge the natural healing properties of each dish. The wild caught salmon with its omega-rich fatty acids was poached in a vegetable broth infused with healing cannabis. The beef medallions I prepared offered much needed strength and was heavily salted to soothe the sores of their wounds. My fresh pasta infused with canna-oil was rolled and cut into ravioli squares stuffed with cheese and mushrooms that would aide in calming their stomachs and allow for easy digestion. Not to mention the comfort that comes with soft, warm puffs of pasta. I added extra cannellini beans to the kale salad, enhancing the protein. There was plenty of protection in the cannabis-garlic vinaigrette I made for the salads. One of the treats I prepared was a chamomile and honey gelato. I knew chamomile was calming, but after reading Miss Diffenbaugh’s book. I now see I unknowingly encouraged energy in adversity via that sweet, creamy dessert. A few days following my day of cooking for this special couple, I received a handwritten thank you note. In it they expressed their gratitude and expounded on the virtues of each meal, telling me my food was the best they had ever eaten. They knew the benefits of the cannabis infusions but likely didn’t know of the medicinal properties and influences of the

other herbs and spices I used. With Thanksgiving just around the corner you can be sure I will be including plenty of herbs and spices to enhance gratitude and joy. On my herb roasted turkey I’ll use plenty of fresh parsley to enhance the festive atmosphere. He will, as many birds before him, will be bathed in a compound butter of sage, rosemary and thyme, communicating long lives, good health, remembrance and courage for those gathered around my table. I always prepare a second bird out on the Weber. This bird is rubbed down with red pepper, cumin, garlic and onion powders along with other spices. A feisty fit of fowl, he will invoke wealth and adventure from the pepper, a sense of togetherness and engagement via the cumin and the protection of garlic. This year I plan on seeking out the edible flower, campanula expressing gratitude. In Italian households, pasta is a common side dish for holiday celebrations. A popular offering at our table is my pumpkin lasagna. Tender, homemade sheets of pasta layered with pumpkin purée mixed with cinnamon for stability and soothing warmth, nutmeg for effervescence and more fresh sage. So, in the spirit of giving and non-verbal communication, here’s my recipe for Cosmic Muffin’s Lunar Pumpkin Lasagna. Multi-faceted in her talents and interests, Deborah L. Costella has enjoyed expressing her creativity as a dancer, teacher, chef and writer, both in the Northern California Bay Area and Las Vegas Nevada. She has authored two cookbooks and has written numerous articles and newsletters for local publications in the Las Vegas Valley, with a focus on cooking. Deborah currently teaches cooking classes at Sur La Table and Cozymeal, as well as private in-home classes. She also provides personal chef services in both Las Vegas and the San Francisco Bay Area. She has yet another book in the works.

Cosmic Muffin’s Lunar Pumpkin Lasagna Preheat oven to 400 degrees INGREDIENTS FOR PASTA 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour ½ cup cake flour 1 tsp kosher salt 4 whole eggs 2 Tbsp canna-oil additional flour for dusting INGREDIENTS FOR PUMPKIN FILLING 2 tablespoon canna-oil 1 ½ lb. ground pork 1 ½ lb. ground veal salt and pepper to taste 2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 large shallot, minced ½ can pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling) 2 tablespoons minced fresh sage 1 tsp. ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 Tbsp brown sugar INGREDIENTS FOR SAUCE ½ cup canna-butter 2 Tbsp canna-oil 1 small yellow onion, minced 1/8 tsp nutmeg 1 bay leaf ½ cup all purpose flour 2 cups whole milk 2 cups low sodium chicken broth (more if needed for thinning) * INGREDIENTS FOR CHEESE FILLING 1 ½ lb. fresh mozzarella cheese 1 15-oz. container ricotta cheese 2 tsps dried Italian seasoning 1 large egg, beaten Kosher salt & pepper to taste 2 - 3 oz freshly grated Parmesan cheese
PROCESS FOR PASTA SHEETS Combine flours and salt in a large mixing bowl. Make a “well” in the center of the flour mixture and set bowl aside. In a small mixing bowl whisk eggs and oil together. Slowly pour egg/oil mixture into flour. Using your fingers, blend the egg into the flour, drawing from the sides of the well. Little by little continue pulling from the sides of the well until all flour has been blended with egg. When thoroughly mixed, turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until you have a soft smooth ball of dough. Shape dough into a disk, cover with plastic wrap and allow to rest at room temperature for at least 20 minutes. PROCESS FOR ROLLING PASTA Cut dough into four sections, keep other sections covered with plastic wrap while working with one at a time. Take a piece of dough from the section you’re working with and flatten into a rough rectangle that will fit into the widest setting of pasta machine. Roll the dough through the machine, folding and rolling until you reach desired thickness. Cut sheet so pieces will fit into your casserole dish being used for lasagna. Set cut sheets to side covered with a clean, damp kitchen towel until ready to assemble lasagna. No need to cook the pasta since it’s fresh! If you don’t own a pasta machine, you may use a rolling pin to roll dough sections into sheets then cut to desired lengths. PROCESS FOR SAUCE Melt butter in large saucepot with diced onions. Sauté the onions over medium heat until softened. Add the flour to make a roux, whisking constantly while avoiding scorching, about 5 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk, continuing to stir until smooth. Add the nutmeg, bay leaf, salt and pepper, continuing to simmer until sauce has thickened ~ about 5 minutes. Set aside. PREPARE THE FILLING 1) Heating olive oil in large skillet then adding minced shallot. Cook over medium heat until softened. Add minced garlic and both ground meats. 2) Season with salt, pepper and sage, cook until no longer pink 3) In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning until well mixed. Set aside. Slice or grate mozzarella – set aside 4) In separate small mixing bowl combine pumpkin puree, sage, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Set aside. TO ASSEMBLE: First remove that bay leaf from your sauce, if your sauce has become too thick, add some of that chicken broth to thin. Then spray a 9x13x3 casserole dish with non-stick spray. Pour only about 1/3 sauce across bottom of pan. Cover bottom of dish with about 3 – 4 lasagna noodles. Pour 1/3 cup of sauce over pasta. Crumble 1 heaping cup of meat mixture over sauce. Place dollops of the pumpkin mixture over top. Place dollops of the ricotta cheese mixture between the pumpkin dollops, then distribute slices of grated mozzarella around. Continue this pattern of layering. Be sure to finish the top off with the Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake about 20 minutes. Remove foil, reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking another 10 minutes or so, until bubbly and lightly browned. Remove from oven and allow to rest for 10 – 15 minutes before cutting into it. Enjoy!

TALES FROM THE CRIP
a patient's perspective
To Card, or Not to Card By Peter Jay With Operation Legal Marijuana: Nevada well on its way to becoming the license-to-print-money industry that we all knew that it would be, some of us medical marijuana cardholders are growing a mite…uneasy. Feeling a bit miffed, if you will. While I am not typically prone to existential angst, I find myself tossing sleeplessly and contemplating my future role as a member of the NMMP (Nevada Medical Marijuana Program).
Logically speaking, then, the less money that I have to cough up to the State Department of Financial Irresponsibility, the happier I will likely be.

I was recently talking with my friend “Chris” (totally his real name—I acknowledge no journalistic boundaries) who, once upon a time, was a fellow Nevada medical marijuana cardholder. With the recent addition of legal marijuana to the state, Chris found himself wondering about the value of continued membership. It is an entirely reasonable question: why pay for permission to do something that is no longer illegal? A common phrase heard often here around the CripYard is this: it depends on your circumstance. Right off the top, there are a few subtle (or subtle-ish) differences between the medical and recreational marijuana programs. To make sure that I do not lose your interest in this article prematurely, let’s begin by talking about money. In the words of Frito (played by Dax Shepard) from the increasingly-accurate film masterpiece Idiocracy, I like money. Logically speaking, then, the less money that I have to cough up to the State Department of Financial Irresponsibility, the happier I will likely be. Previously, a Nevada MMJ card would set a patient back anywhere from $175 to $300+ dollars for annual membership certification. Why the variance in fees?

Look, I can knock the hell out of a writing task with minimal hassle; I enjoy writing (a total lie-I enjoy having written) and I really like blathering endlessly. But legibly filling out paperwork? Finding a MMJ-minded doctor and making an appointment? Finding a NOTARY, for pity’s sake? Nope, not me. Uh-uh. I’d still be smoking catnip with my cousin (long, harsh story) if it was down to me to sort out all of that administrivia. Just say no and all that. Pierre Werner (speak his name with reverence, as he did a LOT for us Nevada MMJ users) at Dr. Reefer handled all of that for me; at the time it cost $25 to obtain a first-time application and $75 to submit the completed form. For an application to be considered complete, you needed your fingerprints taken ($), a Notary seal for authenticity ($$) and a doctor’s signature saying that you qualified medically and weren’t just a stoner looking to bake ($$$). Hence the variance: the more time that you had/have to invest in the process, the less you have to pay. With the arrival of legalization, Nevada has modified its program, primarily by now offering a two-year renewal program (it is now $50 for one year and $100 for two). Is it worth it? My conclusion is that for me, it is. First, while we are currently enjoying a nice détente from Federal prosecution for marijuana possession and use, I trust the G like I trust my ex with my checkbook-I DON’T. Is a medical card a guarantee that I can get what I need should we be thrown back to the dim days of Prohibition? Not at all, but recent history suggests that the powers-that-be are actually beginning to understand the intrinsic medical value behind marijuana therapy. The real money question here comes down to the cost for the medicine at your local dispensary, and is (as always) a matter of taxation. As I understand it, after all of the taxation and whatnot, medical marijuana should cost dispensaries 10% less than recreational marijuana does (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong— you won’t be the first). Will the dispensaries pass that savings along to us? Some will, while others will invite us to go play the time-honored game of “hide and go fuck yourself”. Unduly harsh? ME? I told you in paragraph one that I was feeling a bit miffed; you CLEARLY thought that I was kidding, but Peter Jay don’t PLAY! Other differences between the medical and recreational programs include quantity that can be purchased; recreational users can buy one ounce per visit, while medical users can continue to purchase up to 2.5 ounces every fourteen days. Additionally, some dispensaries offer medical patients pre-order or “head of the line” privileges but, as with a medical patient discount, it is all at the discretion of the dispensary. Does that make it worth it? Well, it depends on your circumstance! I’m not due for renewal until March, so I still have some time to bide before decision time. I know that I can still go to Dr. Reefer (even though Pierre left town long ago) and have my renewal process dealt with for a moderate fee (for me, totally worth it). A two-year renewal should reveal how well (or poorly) we medical patients will fare. One big bonus that we’ve already seen is that we no longer have to deal with the DMV to get our cards. Now THAT is progress! #FuckMS

THE NEED FOR CONSUMPTION LOUNGES Hello and welcome to the November Rant! This is one of those months when I’m indifferent. There is a bunch of great stuff going on this month but as usual I feel it’s not enough. Our fearless leader Bill, and I went down to San Bernardino last month for Kushstock. I haven’t had that much fun, or smoked that much great cannabis and concentrates, and then had the chance to get to know and learn from a whole bunch of like minded people in quite some time. That is the main thing I like about these festivals. Getting to learn from the people who are actually doing things to further the cause of cannabis and healing. Between talking to growers, extract artists (big ups to the Vader crew), chefs, activists, and the patients themselves, all I did, was learn more about what I can do to help the people of Nevada. But, the first thing that needs to be done, is the State of Nevada needs to get off their ass and start issuing some licenses for smoking lounges and public consumption events. The amount of tax money the State has been gouging us for has to be proof that a large chunk of the locals and tourists alike are consuming. Why make it hard for us when you are taking so much of our hard-earned money? For the tourists coming here and supporting our state's economy, if the hotel they stay in isn’t 420 friendly they are forced to break the law by illegally consuming on the streets or parking lots. For the locals, everywhere we consume other than the privacy of our homes is a crime. Yet, people can consume alcohol damn near anywhere they want, and it’s even encouraged!
We NEED somewhere we can gather and educate each other, sharing what we know can help others get through this insanity that is going on right now. After the tragic shooting last month, I personally saw a lot of PTSD patients (especially Veterans) come in the dispensary to get some meds to help calm them down. I saw people and friends that were at the event where the shooting took place. I saw the terror in their eyes, the shaking of their hands, and I also saw the relief they got from consuming cannabis. Now imagine if those same people could get together in a setting where they could consume, talk out their problems, teach each other what product or strain works best for their ailments, and just generally interact, learn, love, and laugh to combat their problems. That is what I think we need to make #VegasStrong I’ll be speaking at this month's Budtender Fight Club on November 19th. I’ll speak about Cannabis Oil 101 and give an overview of what you should learn if you want to get into a dispensary budtending. Plus, I’ll be posting the “How To” video I made (finally) about how to mix and capsule your own RSO caps after debuting it here. Get your tickets quick, as it always sells out! Find me at Hempfest this year on November 11th. And, I’m heading back to the musical stage November 4th at Backstage Bar and Billiards for the Las Vegas Punk Rock Reunion, and November 9th at Beauty Bar opening for The Dead Boys 40th Anniversary Tour.

It does have 2.2 mg/g of caryophyllene, and 1.7 mg/g of myrcene, and many other terpenes commonly found in cannabis. That’s what I was high from. Wait. There is a grip of CBD in this sister flower, over 14%. This Premium Hemp Flower was tested by Digipath, and approved by me. I’m also their ambassador. Would any production facilities like to make a 1:1 CBD:THC distillate using this CBD? We got you covered. How about pre-rolled hemp blunts? Smoke shops, it’s legal to sell this in your store right now. Hemp blunts are a great way to relax, and really fun to smoke in public. This PHF by CBD Saves is ideal for those who would like to partake, but don’t want to risk failing a piss test. #publichemp THC- .053% Guaiol- 2.3 mg/g Myrcene- 1.7 mg/g Bisabolol- 0.7 mg/g Terpinene- 0.2 mg/g
MATRIX Nepalese Kush
Nepalese Kush smells thick and robust, nutty with a hint of fine chocolate. The strain name is reminiscent of the Nepalese opium/hash balls made by monks for centuries. My discernment of strains has become my favorite craft. I like to learn about our industry, so I pay attention, and I dig up useless information (BillShit), playing the role of a photojournalist. Nepalese Kush has a slight couch-lock effect, but nothin’ too heavy. Power through it and keep on movin’, or call it a night, and let your eyes roll back, way back, to the track, to the wall, it’s gone! Good Night Vegas. I’m in the Matrix. PRODUCTS GREEN LIFE PRODUCTIONS Scott’s OG
My job is fun but sometimes, difficult. I feel an obligation to our readers to depict my favorite flowers, extracts, and edibles. What’s best for me might not be the best choice for your health or pleasure. My choice herbs are usually ones that smell gassy or look purple. The GLP team is like family, and they truly care about what they put on the shelf. I have never gotten a light jar, or a poorly manicured nug. All of their labels are meticulously parallel and perpendicular. This Scott’s OG is phenomenal. The gassy nose is teasing the shit out of me. I’ve already had a few bong tokes of SOG yesterday, so smelling this again makes my mouth water. Scott’s OG is conditioning me like Pavlov’s Dog. Opening the jar is ringing my bell. THC- 23.967% Limonene- 7.7 mg/g Myrcene- 5.2 mg/g Caryophyllene- 3.4 mg/g Trans-Nerolidol- 2.1 mg/g Linalool- 1.9 mg/g
GREEN LIFE PRODUCTIONS Grateful Breath
We are playing cannabis poker, and I have a GLP monster in my hand. I smell a pair of aces, pocket rockets, so I shove all-in. The whole table called my bet. They wanted to see what Big Daddy was holding. I had a beast, Grateful Breath, the mother of VCM#2 & VCM#3. There is enough caryophyllene and linalool to eliminate anxiety, which relaxes my mind and helps my poker face and my poker game. These guys are dust here. Shuffle up and deal. NATURE’S CHEMISTRY Purple Trainwreck
By-Josh Ranck All Aboard! Purple Trainwreck has got me sweetly sideways. The nugs are so beautiful, it’s almost a shame to break them up and smoke them … almost. With almost a full point of myrcene, this strain hits like a freight train! It tastes so good with some spicy citrus and that yummy grapey purple coming through strong. I’m not dumb or lazy, but after I hit this Plum Crazy, shit turned a bit hazy. Usually, nothing can phase me, but this purple flower did amaze me. I wasn’t elevated, but it did raise me. You’re driving too slow. What are you? Driving Miss Daisy? What’s with all the purple paisley? It’s been days since we moved this slow. What are we? Plum snails without shells. We’re turning into plum slugs from all these dumb drugs. Haha just messin’. Cannabis puts rest to stress and drama, reduces pain and even helps your brain. You can’t say “fuck” without me. I’m nice and fucked up from this fuckin’ flower. I loved it! It smelled like berries, wild & blue, and had me jumpin’ up, lookin’ for something to do. At 20% THC, this sativa looked promising too. The backroll I flipped, hit me like morning do, no escape from it. I’m not dumb from it, but I am kinda numb, come to think of it. Fuck. I’m running around from it. Just one more F-bomb. Why can’t I get —just one fuck. I guess it’s got something to do with luck. MEDIZIN Hawaiian Butterscotch
Lemony Snicket’s lovely lemonscented cannabis flower sat me down for at least an hour. Try it anytime… After a long day, when you don’t have the power, or after your bitch-ass boss makes you sour. Whether now or later, it’s now or never. Good weather, bad weather, smoke on it anytime. I feel happy and clever from this endeavor. I could blaze on Jilly Bean forever. Pass up a good joint? Me? Never. Stop, drop and roll up a doob. I'm your huckleberry, Miss Jilly. THE FACILITY The Purple Cotton
Impressive. I am a sucker for some good, purple herbs, and this one deserves special praise. I get faded for days in so many ways, but I hit this one, and I’m amazed. And, it’s almost too pretty to blaze. These purple tones and well-manicured nugs put The Facility on the map. I curled up with that purple blanket and my custom, Dope Ass Glass nighty-night piece, and that was all she wrote. Lights out. The Purple Cotton was the last thing I smoked last night, and it was the first thing I thought about this morning, straight wrecked me. It squashed my nagging back pain as well. Well, well, well. Ya, I’m lit from this joint, and I don’t feel like working. So, I immediately change my perspective, and count my blessings. I love my job. I get to smoke weed for a living. So it’s not work when I fire up another hooter. I got one more of these prerolled bad boys waiting for me in the MMG box. Each box contains 2 half-gram pre-rolls of each strain, totaling 3 grams. Nice presentation here, and a great way to sample some different herbs. MMG is from Northern Nevada, and supports Tahoe Cannabis Magazine. Let’s get them into more Vegas Cannabis dispensaries so more consumers can get a taste. The joints all smoked very well, nothing to waste. KABUNKY Gelato Klear Kabunky
I have never seen such an overload of terpenes as what we have here. Since the state only requires production facilities to list the top 3 terpenes on the packaging, many terpenes that are not included get swept to the side, and never exposed to the public when they make a routine purchase. Take myrcene here, at 7.5 mg/g, which is enough to relieve pain, induce appetite, and put your ass to sleep. There is an astronomical amount of caryophyllene and limonene, and the limonene will counteract the laziness of the myrcene. There’s enough caryophyllene and linalool to eliminate the stress of a severely depressed elephant, so your drama is no match for this Gelato. #jarofexcellence #terpeddistillate THC- 71.5% Caryophyllene- 30.3 mg/g Limonene- 27.6 mg/g Pinene- 9.41 mg/g Myrcene- 7.5 mg/g Linalool- 7.2 mg/g
W VAPES Segerblom Haze Sativa Vape Cartridge
These gold cartridges are eye-catchy, as is the complementary battery. Don’t go running back into the dispensary, telling them you didn’t get your complimentary battery pack, and Bill said that it’s complimentary, cause I didn’t. I said it was complementary, which doesn’t mean FREE. Check the dictionary of you are lost. These W Vapes should be popular among those who are into vape cartridges. I rarely get relief from any cartridge, so I usually twist off the mouthpiece and leak it on to a perfect temp banger, and dab that shit up. I tried this one both ways, once on the battery as recommended, and the rest - my way, as preferred. Don’t be scurred, nerds. Dab up! Expect to lean, and possibly zonk out from the myrcene. Sometimes, when you concentrate a sativa flower, the myrcene gets multiplied, resulting in more of an indica feeling. My wife got ahold of this cartridge, and took it home. I saw it on about 4 different counters and also her nightstand, so I know it’s getting some action. Hit this shit until it dies, then throw it in the gutter, and go buy another. I learned that from old school gangsta rapper, Eazy-E. I once read that when you get faded from 707 Headband, you feel like you are wearing a sweatband or something around your head, hence the name. But I think whoever described it like that was just running out of original shit to say, and decided it was a good story. I hit this about 5 solid rips, and I feel great, but I definitely don’t feel anything constricting my head. I don’t ever pretend to feel something, and I certainly don’t want to mislead anyone. I don’t candy coat shit, or make shit up. And, I don’t get paid a single dime to introduce products to our dedicated readers. This one crept up on me and had me arguing with myself. Ya, this looks like a felony, as does most of the CBD and THC-a crystalline concentrates that have ended up in my face. I remember not wanting to try any of the crystallines because I didn’t trust that it was what they said it was. I got over that and so should you, because it’s a delicacy. THC-a is non-psychedelic in its raw crystal form, and it can be eaten or vaporized. In the raw, it helps reduce inflammation, gain appetite, and is one of the best homeopathic proliferative options for cancer patients today. Yo traditional medicine, if you would step away from the addicting, artificial chemicals and their unforgiving side-effects, you wouldn’t be handing out so many death sentences. Fuck it. I’m throwing my trigonometry book right out the damned window, along with these lab results. How are Nevada extractors so good, that they can make distillates that confuse scientists, making them forget how to add to 100. They have 100% of my attention. Labs are allowed to have a 15% flaw. I don’t like it. It’s a secret that I’m not in on. Good thing we don’t rely on rocket science to produce Nevada’s concentrates. Fuck the fluffy numbers let’s dab. This distillate is absolute fire. Newfound love here! I am extremely attracted to everything about this sauce. It’s pretty much “lust at first scent”. My eyes, lungs and mouth were pleading with my nose to share this with the rest of my body. Its sweet lemon scent is heaven sent and put a huge dent in my memory. High terpinolene will lower the eyes a bit, like myrcene, although Durban Poison is a sativa. So, this sauce is a prime example of a sativa having sedative effects because it was concentrated. Expect to chill. The smell, flavor, and effects of this TERPX Live Resin Sauce were the best of the month, in my opinion, respectfully. #saucevegas THC- 65.24% Terpinolene- 18.641 mg/g Myrcene- 5.8142 mg/g Caryophyllene- 2.6555 mg/g

Ooh! This one smells like lemon Pine Sol. I can’t wait to dab this golden reward. If you have never dabbed, and you are constantly coping with pain, take this to the brain. Vaporizing concentrates is less harmful to your lungs than smoking flower. Myrcene is responsible for reducing inflammation and pain, and there is a grip of it in this Space Dream Raw Wax. At over 82%, expect to be day-dreaming, or even nightdreaming if you’re ready for bed. The only way I would take this medicine is in a dab rig, or a vape pen. It smells so good that you’ll probably make caveman noises when you get into it. I want this as a cologne. What caught my attention was lab results that list an insane amount of limonene and a-pinene, which are two of my favorite terpenes. Here’s another Moxie product to write home about. Tell whoever it is back home that you are writing to, that it smells like mint chip ice cream. Tell them its consistency looks and feels soft, like creamy peanut butter. There is enough limonene to keep your motor running. Limonene is an accelerating mood enhancer, and when it outweighs myrcene, it works as an appetite suppressant. A GREAT CHOICE FOR PARENTS
>>>>>>>>>>>>>> By The Stoner Mom >Photos courtesy of O.pen VAPE We can all agree that while cannabis poses almost no threat to us medically, inhaling smoke of any kind is known to be harmful. When something is burned (combusted), it releases all sorts of harmful toxins. For children, smoke exposure is especially troubling. Exposure to smoke can cause respiratory problems, and second-hand marijuana smoke exposes children to both cannabinoids and toxins from burning. “Exposure to second hand cannabis smoke results in absorption of cannabinoids. Secondhand exposure can produce mild subjective and behavioral/cognitive effects. Room ventilation ameliorates the effects of second hand cannabis smoke exposure.” -The Weed Blog Smoke is also stinky, and far from discreet. Light up a bowl of weed or a joint, and everyone knows what you are up to. And when you’ve trained your kids from birth that anyone smoking a cigarette is poisoning themselves, your children will freak out if they see smoke of any kind escaping from your mouth. Burning cannabis releases smoke with carcinogens and other toxins into your air. This is why it is not advised to do around children. Young kids especially have a greater risk of respiratory issues if they are often exposed to smoke. If your child has asthma or allergy issues, than it’s even more important to keep them away from smoke exposure. All of this adds to the mountain of reasons why parents are too terrified to try cannabis. But, now we have this super popular, medically preferred, and family-friendly method: meet vaporizing!
60
What is Vaporizing?
Vaporizing is a method of heating cannabis below the point of combustion, meaning it never catches alight, and never produces smoke. Virtually zero toxins are released and instead of smoke you get vapor, steamy air that is full of cannabinoids- the whole reason we get high in the first place! This means you get more of your medicine, and less of the other stuff. Let me say that again. When vaping cannabis you get more cannabinoids, and none of the carcinogens associated with smoke.
How Vaping Works
Vaporizers are specialized devices able to heat cannabis at a temperature just below combustion. This creates vapor which is then inhaled. A vaporizer can be purchased at a variety of places online or in person. The great thing about vaporizers, is the wide range of shapes, sizes, and prices they come in. You can find a vaporizer for every type of stoner! Most new to vaping begin with a portable vaporizer. This is a great place to start if you aren’t sure if vaping is going to be for you. Portable vaporizers tend to be less expensive than their at-home counterparts.
Portable Vaporizers
Portable vaporizers are small, handheld, rely on battery power, and often conduction heating, typically in a heated metal chamber. You should take care not to over-pack these, and to stir your cannabis after a few pulls to make sure of even heating. Portable vaporizers are super discreet, meaning you can pretty much get high any place you want, when you want. There are many portable vaporizers on the market. My personal favorite is the Mighty by Storz and Bickel. I love the Mighty because it’s one of the only portable options that uses convection heating, making it a portable vaporizer for the serious stoner. Other good options are the Pax 3 by Pax Labs and the AirVape XS by Arizer.

Already Been Vaped (ABV) or Already Vaped Bud (AVB)These refer to the same thing - Cannabis that has been vaped to the point of being finished, still has properties that make it an option for making your own edibles or concentrates. Conduction - Heating something by having it touch something hot. Convection - Heating something by heating the air around the something.
What Does The Stoner Mom Do?
I use a Volcano vaporizer for serious vape sessions and a Mighty for quick and stealthy tokes during the day. My preferred routine is to vape during the day when children will be in the house, and to smoke cannabis in the evening when children are fast asleep in their rooms. Vaporizing cannabis is one of my favorite methods of consumption, and is the preferred method of medical marijuana prescribers. If you’re looking to fully embrace cannabis in your self-care, a vaporizer will be a great investment and enhancement to your routine.
Desktop Vaporizers
A desktop or plug-in vaporizer is one that plugs into power and is not meant to be used on the go. They are more efficient and typically use the convection method for heating. A well known example is the Volcano by Storz and Bickel. The Volcano is my preferred desktop vaporizer, and my recommendation for medical marijuana patients who use a lot of cannabis. Many desktop devices release vapor into large balloons with mouthpieces for inhaling. A long flexible tube, similar to a hookah, is another common feature among desktop vaporizers.

Smell & Other Considerations
Vapor is NOT smoke. They aren’t the same thing and aren’t even very similar. Vapor has little smell, and the smell is herbal as opposed to smokey. Vapor dissipates almost immediately upon exhale, unlike smoke which lingers and smells. Some report a different sort of high when vaping cannabis. Vaping often gives me a lighter, clearer high than smoking will. Results will vary, but I can count on vaporizing to give me great results with no crash (unlike edibles) and without being super stoney (looking at you, giant bong).

BOTTLE BONG What a cool gadget device this is! Simply melt or cut a carb hole at the top of any standard drinking bottle, and screw in the Bottle Bong. It’s ready to rip! So simple, and inexpensive, you will question whether it will work or not. You have my word that the functionality is above average, and that it’s well-worth the money. If you can screw the cap on a 2-liter bottle of soda pop, then you can surely get high using the Bottle Bong device. It’s pretty durable, since most of its structure is plastic. But there are some breakable glass parts, like the bowl and downstem. We all loved it, and you will too. The Bottle Bong retails for only $10, and comes in various colors. Take it on the road, and ditch that dirty bottle every time you stop for munchies. thebottlebong.com
WOODCRAFT STASH BOXES How fuckin’ cool is this? Husband and wife woodworking duo, Russell & Brenda, started mastering their woodworking skills repairing and refinishing casino chairs. Russell wanted to create a fun, new project to break the monotony, and with the VegasCannabis™ industry booming, he had the perfect idea to make custom, yet affordable locking stash boxes. All of the wood used in the stash boxes is rare and usually a little pricey. Woodcraft uses solid brass fittings and hinges as well. They don’t lacquer up their stash boxes neither. The shine and luster comes from carnauba wax, a buffing wheel, and some elbow grease. The front of most of their lids flaunts a raw edge of the tree, called a Live Edge. Great work. I’m happy to call them my neighbors. Check them out next time you visit the Vegas Cannabis Headquarters. His newest-model boxes are designed to stash those little concentrate jars. Cannabis & Parkinson's Disease
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> By Jennifer Shepherd, RN Parkinson’s Disease is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that progresses slowly over time. The brain slowly decreases the amounts of dopamine produced, which slowly decreases a person’s ability to regulate bodily movements and emotions. As of right now, there is said to be no cure, and treatment is to aid symptoms, slow progression, and maintain the quality of life as high as possible. Many people want to know if and how cannabis can help with the progression of Parkinson’s; and although federal provisions keep research from being done, since marijuana is still classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, the National Institute of Health, a government website, has research stating therapeutic “promise” for persons
68
with Parkinson’s and the United States Patent and Trademark Office website states that cannabinoids can be therapeutic for Parkinson’s patients. The National Institute of Health has a research article titled “The Endocannabinoid System as an Emerging Target of Pharmacotherapy” that states: “…endocannabinoid system has been implicated in a growing number of physiological functions, both in the central and peripheral nervous systems and in peripheral organs…” “…modulating the activity of the endocannabinoid system turned out to hold therapeutic promise in a wide range of diseases and pathological conditions, ranging from mood and anxiety disorders, movement disorders such as Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury, to cancer, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction,
stroke, hypertension, glaucoma, obesity/ metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis, to name just a few.” Cannabinoids were patented by the United States government under US patent #6,630,507 on Oct 7, 2013, defining the use of cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants with this statement: “…cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, agerelated, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia.” Stating that there is no cure with western medications,
cannabis is one of the safest methods to potentially slow progression. Cannabis also has minimal side effects; however, there are potential medication interactions. Please check with an educated professional if wanting to combine cannabis with medications. Using small doses of cannabis in an edible form as a daily regimen to maintain cannabinoid levels may assist symptom relief better than dosing to relieve symptoms. Cannabinoid and terpene ratios will affect overall relief so it is important to document and adjust types of cannabis and dosage amounts based on symptom relief. MEET MADDIE
CBD IN THE TREATMENT OF HYDROCEPHALUS
M
>>>
BY DR. FRANK
eet Maddie. Maddie has hydrocephalus, which means that cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in her brain, which in turn increases the amount of pressure put on the brain. As you can imagine, hydrocephalus is quite the serious condition, and can prove to be fatal if the right measures aren’t taken to stop the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Other side-effects of hydrocephalus include extremely painful headaches, impaired speech, loss of physical coordination, and epilepsy. Hydrocephalus is one of the most common birth defects, with around one in every 500 births resulting in hydrocephalus. Around 6,000 children annually develop hydrocephalus during the first two years of life. Most cases of childhood or congenital hydrocephalus are caused by spina bifida, which is when a baby’s neural tube connecting the spine and brain doesn’t develop properly. There is often a “gap” between the spine and the brain, or the neural tube is connecting the two but is damaged in some way.
drained - is placed in the peritoneal cavity in the abdomen. Shunts are prone to failure, especially in children like Maddie, who are still growing. Shunts can also become infected. This means regular surgeries to fix and replace broken and malfunctioning valves, as well as some rather harsh pharmaceuticals. So, what drugs was Maddie on? Topiramate (Topamax), lamotrigine (Lamictal), and gabapentin (Neurontin). These drugs are classed as “anticonvulsants” or “antiepileptic drugs”, and are often used in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. This is what some of the potential side-effects of these powerful anticonvulsant drugs look like: •
Topiramate - Greater risk of heat stroke and deadly high body temperatures; panic attacks, restlessness, depression, and suicidal thoughts; an increased chance of liver failure; internal bleeding; eye problems; metabolic acidosis, which means the blood becomes more acidic, damaging internal organs.
•
Lamotrigine - Can cause life-threatening skin conditions like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) Syndrome, and epidermal necrolysis, which are potentially deadly skin reactions that are caused by medications such as lamotrigine; rash, fatigue and fever, which are often signs of a skin condition developing; dizziness and loss of coordination; double vision; vivid dreams or nightmares; insomnia.
•
Gabapentin - Ataxia (lack of voluntary coordination of muscle movements); increased risk of suicide; increased risk of developing cancer; drowsiness; slurred speech; sedation.
The most common treatment for children like Maddie is a cerebral shunt. Cerebral shunts are valves connected to a catheter in the brain. The end of the shunt - and where cerebrospinal fluid is
Overdosing on any of the above drugs can cause death. Stopping the intake of any of the above medications may also cause severe “rebound” seizures. Indeed, it seems as if the drugs used to treat hydrocephalus are almost as bad as the condition itself! To think of the sort of pain Maddie was in, who would have been on such drugs from the age of 10 months old, is almost unimaginable. Maddie would suffer from extremely painful headaches, for which most doctors would have just recommended and prescribed more pills. These pills, if taken, would have likely made Maddie’s problems more complicated, rather than treat anything. Then along came cannabis. Specifically, cannabidiol (CBD). At first, Maddie’s mother, Carrie, was against using CBD for Maddie after Carrie’s fiancé suggested she look into it after seeing a video

of Jason and Jayden David. “I don’t want her to get high. I don’t want to get her hooked on drugs.” Carrie’s fiancé said in response, “She’s already hooked on all the meds she’s been on since she was 10 months old.” Maddie and Carrie would then go to a neurologist, who immediately gave Maddie a recommendation as a last resort. Maddie was given her first dose of CBD on July 4th, 2015. Maddie was on her way to a swimming party with her mother, but unsurprisingly didn’t want to to get involved. Carrie decided to give Maddie a dose of CBD. The reaction? “An hour later, she was a completely different kid. She was swimming, wanted to jump off the diving board. Splashing the kids, using squirt guns. This was a kid we hadn’t seen in probably 2-3 years because of so much pain.” Maddie agrees. “It [CBD] makes me feel better really quickly, yeah … I feel great right now!” For Maddie, the Fourth of July really was her Independence Day! So, why does CBD work for Maddie? Well, there are a few theories, but the main one is that CBD can activate and desensitize the protein TRPV1, which is also known as the capsaicin receptor or the vanilloid receptor. Benzodiazepines and other anticonvulsants also target this receptor, but CBD may be able to do so just as if not more effectively than many of these other drugs, and far more safely, too. There are also fewer side-effects with CBD, and there is no addiction or dangerous withdrawal symptoms as far as we know.

There are also other beneficial effects CBD may be having on Maddie, which could be extremely useful for those with hydrocephalus, as well as many other conditions. CBD may also reduce the effects of brain damage, as it reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, as well as providing a barrier of protection against the over-accumulation of the neurochemical, glutamate. For a condition like hydrocephalus, where strokes and the potential of brain damage are a constant worry, CBD could well help save minds. On top of this, CBD may also block anxiety-inducing REM sleep and act as an antiemetic, which would definitely help children like Maddie. The multiple uses of cannabinoids (not just CBD) and terpenoids for various medical conditions makes it a very unique form of medication - a form of medication with a therapeutic value far above that of many other pharmaceutical drugs that are deemed perfectly legal. “I like to call it a miracle,” Carrie says. We’re inclined to agree! For more information, visit drfrank.com

Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas >>> By: Rebecka Snell
To a tourist’s eye this city is a 4 mile strip of hotels; drenched in neon, filled with celebrity restaurants, extravagant entertainment, and gambling galore. A place where everybody is somebody and the service industry is notorious for meeting big standards. Las Vegas is a vacation destination to many and home to few. Over the past month our small community has come together in monumental ways exonerating compassionate acts of humanity in the midst of a horrific event. The night of October 1st, 2017, sniper-like shots spewed from Mandalay Bay towards the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, turning this haven into a combat zone. Newton’s Third Law of Physics reveals for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, this can be applied to humankind. It is time that evil people who commit these acts of infamy realize that if they intend on negatively affecting a group of people ultimately those people can, and will, rise to become stronger post the traumatic experience. Terrorizing people can solidify their bond. These tough times breed determination in humanity. We have seen it first hand in Las Vegas. The first responders and medical staff’s have done more than just their jobs. Many of them volunteered their time to help bring our sense of safety and health back to life as quickly as possible. The resiliency shown in our locals has been beautiful. Like so many marquees in Las Vegas have read, “When things get dark, Las Vegas shines.” It is true, especially in our locals. The immediate days the service industry showed up to work and banded together to be strong enough to carry on. Blood banks were turning people away they were so full. Donations overflowed, businesses were feeding the first responders as well as normal everyday citizens making trips to the
strip to provide necessary goods. The valley quickly filled to brim with love and support. There is an energy surrounding Mandalay Bay that is still somber. Watching the news, talking about it, all keeps it current. But something about being present in the presence of Mandalay Bay almost makes time feel still. The welcome sign was usually a single file line of picture taking full of excitement and anticipation. Now it has become an international memorial of respect and reflection. For many locals this intersection of remembrance is driven each and every day. It isn’t just a current event it is the current state of our community we live in. If power is the ability to affect change the Las Vegas locals have proven you don’t have to be in power to do so. But rather that coming together is more powerful than one’s demented intentions could ever be. Being a tourist and experiencing such an unexpected event in an unfamiliar place is shocking. Scrambling through places unknown with few resources is not an anxiety you pack for. Strangers filled their cars with strangers that needed help, evacuating the scene and/ or seeking medical attention. The locals should feel a great sense of pride. For many it is a passion to provide an escape for tourists that vacation where we call home. The night of the Route 91 Harvest festival was intended to be just that, an escape. Our ability to rise to the occasion in such desperate time of need folds any greedy tendencies and allows us to perceptively react with fresh hearts. Never did anybody expect such news to become so real and never should we allow the misunderstood acts of one person dictate our livelihood. We are #VegasStrong and will only continue to grow stronger.

CORRECT LABELING PROCEDURES In a facility, there are a variety of different procedures followed each day to ensure products remain safe and clean. One of these procedures is proper product labeling. Proper labeling of chemical products keeps not only your products safe but your staff as well. There are surfaces where isopropyl alcohol is perfect for cleaning and there are surfaces where using a certain type of bleach would be more efficient. Labeling chemical bottles will help instruct staff to ensure that chemicals are being used in the correct capacity. Through labeling, companies can indicate what products are needed for each area of the facility and in what manner each product should be used.
78
Proper labeling can also be used for instructional purposes. Labeling each room with instructions specific to that room will help staff remember proper techniques for handling and cleaning the area. For example, labeling areas for items such as masks, gloves or hairnets and indicating where they are to be worn, will ensure that no one forgets to outfit themselves in the proper attire. Proper labeling is essential to the safety and efficiency of your facility. >>>Alexis Solorzano >>>> Green Medical Supplies, A division of Champion Medical Supplies, greenmedicalsupplies.com

THE ADVENTURE HIGH BEYOND THE LIGHTS
Las Vegas. The lights begin to dazzle you from 39,000 feet up, staring out a tiny airplane window down at the sudden oasis appearing in the sheet black of the desert. At first, it is yellow house lights strung row upon row and as the plane descends the reds, blues, and blinking bikini tops of the city come into view. Las Vegas. When I first landed in this busy little city, I couldn’t quite see beyond the twinkling lights of the slot machines hungrily staring at my wallet. For many, this is the extent of their vacation and on behalf of the residents here in Nevada, we thank you for your tax dollars. When I had already walked the strip twice and witnessed four different Spider-Men and a halfnaked baby-man without even batting an eye, I considered myself a local. It was then that my eyesight grew further and before long I was wondering exactly just how long it would take to get to those majestic looking mountains I could see in the distance, beyond the lights. Turns out, Las Vegas is a paradise when it comes to the outdoors. Beyond the desert valley sits mountain ranges hiding beautifully, unique forests
82
and red stone. Now that my soul has met soil on dozens of trails inside the beautiful parks surrounding our twinkling valley, my view of our wonderful city has changed. The entertainment capital, known for flashy shows and ritzy hotels is actually a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts as well. From a quick mountain escape to Mount Charleston, to a majestic stroll through the red ribbons of Red Rock. Each park is beautifully unique in terrain and both parks sit within thirty minutes of the strip. Not only does Las Vegas offer great outdoor adventures right within the city, it is also an incredible take-off point for escapes located further away, with a variety of national parks in four different states all being a short day trip from here. My first stop on the adventure tour is our very own Mount Charleston. This is the closest of escapes to the city, when in just thirty minutes the desert disappears and lush green trees blanket the mountainside. Mount Charleston has a variety of hiking trails for beginners or well-seasoned hikers. When it is over 110 degrees in the valley, there is no other place to be but
on one of those 80 degree trails. If I didn’t have the cool breeze of Mount Charleston to run off to I would probably just slowly bake until firmly crisp, when down in that valley heat. Sometimes when it’s mid-summer it’s easy to forget what cool air actually feels like, or moisture for that matter. I thank Mount Charleston for its natural supply of both. Cathedral Rock was the first trail I tackled up there. It still remains my favorite, even though, at this point I’ve wandered up nearly all the trails. The view from the top of Cathedral Rock is simply exquisite. It doesn’t look out over the strip, but instead to the North, which only holds more desert and more mysterious mountain ranges. From the top, looking out, I can’t help but feel humbled, in awe of complete perfection that is this special nature. A quiet space apart from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are no car engines drowning in the background, and there are no dazzling lit signs telling you the best place to spend your money. Only the fresh scent of pine needles and the gentle embrace of the cool rolling wind coming
off the mountains. From such heights, I can truly see all the beauty that Nevada holds and, more often than not doesn’t even get credit for. The casinos and bars of Las Vegas are only a mere fraction of the real adventure that this city holds. I’ve always felt being out in nature is its own kind of therapy. For me, it’s my favorite type, especially when accompanied by my other favorite therapy, cannabis. When I smoke cannabis, I tend to take in life a bit more simply, letting my mind notice just how the sun is hitting those green bushes outside of my apartment, or how truly beautiful my egg yolk was dripping down the caverns of my bagel. Cannabis allows me to stop and take notice of the moments around me when typically my mind is in a constant whirlwind with finances, everyday stresses, to-do lists, important decisions, commercials, relationships, flooding memories and the list goes on. I find from day to day it can be almost impossible to quiet my mind completely, which is why I turn to cannabis and nature as my meditation, to calm and reset my mind.
Las Vegas has become quite a haven for me. With recreational sales of cannabis beginning this year, my knowledge and love for the plant that I had already been smoking for years grew immensely. Walking into a dispensary and having numerous flower options and

knowledgeable budtenders has only enhanced my meditation experience. Now, when I create a day of the perfect adventure I don’t have to go very far at all. There are several reputable dispensaries throughout the whole valley where I can get quality grown cannabis. For my Cathedral Rock adventure, I purchased some Blue Dream, a highly recognizable strain that has been around for years. Blue Dream is known for its sweet, blueberry-ish, tropical smell. I love the taste and the powerful uplifting, euphoric high it gives me. It is a sativa dominant hybrid that provides a nice active head high accompanied with an all over body buzz from the indica side. Sativa leaning hybrids tend to be my favorite for all of my outdoor excursions. The blend of both the sativa and indica waking different parts of my mind while quieting and comforting the rest of my body. Sometimes I think if it weren’t for cannabis forcing me to slow down a little bit, I might just miss all the beauty that is right in front of me. On top of

Last month, we celebrated Culture & Cannabis’ one-year anniversary. Over the past year, the Culture & Cannabis team has been hosting monthly marijuana experiences which cater to our local cannabis enthusiasts. Each event featured great local music, live art installations, cannabis industry vendors and relevant education. Held over the past year at a variety of downtown locations which included Institution, Mingo, Commonwealth, The Funkyard at ReBar and First Friday South, events appealed to adults of all walks of life. Featured artists over the past year have included Tagz1, John Born, Yard$ and the ISI Group. Some events highlighted art on display while others featured live art installations. With everything from graffiti art to painted masterpieces, the art at Culture & Cannabis never ceases to amaze. While browsing the vendors and checking out the art, attendees had the chance to experience a variety of music and DJs. Past acts included Byra Tanks, DJ Wizdumb, Johnny Rox, The Sober Junkie, Vinny P and Rondo Stacks. With local vendors like Hydro Geek, Suite Leaf, O.Pen, Pisos, The Apothecary Shoppe, NuLeaf, K & H Consulting, Bud Buddy, The Weekend Box, Caviar Gold, EPC, The High Clique, and Vegas Cannabis Magazine, attendees were sure to find something of interest. And, you know it’s a great event when the majority of vendors return to offer support month after month. As the cannabis industry flourishes and gains momentum, expect to see more Culture and Cannabis events along with additional events from this group.

Back in February, the City Council voted to adopt a six-month moratorium on the sale of recreational marijuana. The ban, which had been set to expire August 7th, was extended to September 7th. The Mayor and City Council again extended, and we were anxious to know when the residents in Henderson would be able to buy from a dispensary in their own backyard instead of traveling miles to the legal Pot-Vegas territories. After much laughter with the staff we found out from the hopeful budtenders that we should have an answer by October 18th. October 18th rolled along, like our beloved joints, we searched high, literally, to find that the Mayor and Council voted 4-1, to finally approve legal recreational sales and the licenses required to 5 Henderson Dispensaries. WIth the 4-1 vote, John Marz supplied the no vote; Mayor Debra March, Councilwoman Gerri Schroder and Councilmen Dan Stewart and Dan Shaw all voted yes. Thank our Mother Ganja Goddess that the buds finally aligned for those living and traveling through Henderson! Now we are one step closer to the necessary changes needed to help support the legalization and use of this beautiful, bountiful plant that our bodies are magically designed to partake in for extreme benefits. Whether you are using for medical or recreational purposes this marks another milestone for Nevada and the progression towards changing additional legislation to support the new generation of consciousness and plant medicine. Until next month, the blunt babes are on the hunt to bring you humor and education within our community. Go ahead and rip one.. we’ll be doing the same, with this legal rec weed from Henderbong! Bong Voyage, Potchitcho’s.

YOU'RE GOING TO GET TOASTED AT CHEBA HUT! Cheba Hut started in 1998 when founder Scott Jennings created a unique menu of toasted subs named after cannabis culture favorites. With names like White Widow and Panama Red in sizes ranging from a nug to a blunt, Cheba Hut has something for everyone. A relaxed vibe, cool bar and outdoor patio make it that much more inviting. The awesome murals were painted by local artists with the ISI Group. So, next time you stop in at The Source Dispensary, venture just down the sidewalk and grab a quick bite at Cheba Hut. Before you leave, make sure you order a rice krispie bar or brownie and grab some Kool Aid to take with you for later. And, one last thing, if nothing on the regular menu catches your eye, ask about the Secret Stash menu. THE KUSH BLT Not your average bacon, lettuce, tomato, the Kush BLT has bacon, mayo, lettuce, extra tomatoes, house dressing and provolone cheese making this a sub to remember. LOADED NOT’CHOS A VCM favorite, as featured on Cheba Hut’s “Munchies” menu, was the "Loaded Not'Chos." Never in a million years would we have ordered such a calamity of ingredients but, after just a few bites we realized that these were the bomb! The Loaded Not’Chos have jalapenos, red onions, black olives, and melted cheddar cheese over nacho cheese Doritos with ranch drizzle on top. CHEBA HUT 2550 S. EVEL PIE, THE EVEL KNIEVEL HEADQUARTERS! We walked in, unintentionally right at 4:20pm, with Vegas Cannabis Magazines in hand, Afroman on the cover, and the song “Because I got High” playing in the background. Unbeknownst to us, the Evel Pie team plays the song every day at 4:20pm. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect entrance. Managing Partner, Branden Powers referred to it as “some matrix shit!” This place is Evel Knievel central! Everything from small action figures to a full size pinball machine. Evel Knievel’s son Kelley is one of the partners at Evel Pie and when visiting, you can’t miss the abundance of Knievel memorabilia. Next time you are downtown, stop in at Evel Pie where you will find good people, an upbeat atmosphere and a great selection of pizza. They have all the classics and then some! They even have the World Famous Snake River Special made with rattlesnake sausage. With everything you should expect from your favorite pizza parlor, Evel Pie is the place to go for a cool dinner date or a late night wrap up. ”I feel like if Evel Pie was in any other neighborhood, it wouldn’t be the same. The food would be different, the vibe would be different. I couldn’t dream of this place being as successful anywhere else the way it has been here in Vegas.” -Branden Powers, Managing Partner The 420 Pie, rich in herbs and mushrooms is made at 420 everyday! "We originally created the 420 Pie to help celebrate the first week of recreational cannabis in Las Vegas but it became such a popular menu item, we couldn’t take it off!" explained Branden. Evel Pie’s best selling slice is the Cheesy Rider. After 1am, the best selling slice becomes the Pepperoni as people stop in after a night out.

The HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!
This year I am having friends and family over for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I am getting everyone loaded up early. Crab is in season and I love fresh dungeness crab from off the San Francisco pier, mixed with onions, peppers, cilantro, garlic to form a patty, fresh toasted sourdough baguette, poached eggs and hollandaise. This breakfast will definitely not motivate you to make more food. Make sure someone else is making dinner. You are going to be loaded!!!! By the time the football game is on, everything should be ok. In November I will be at the MJ Biz Conference in Las Vegas. Look for me at the infused cooking demo.

The Crabbiest Hollandaize Breakfast Infused Crabby Patties INGREDIENTS: - Extra virgin olive oil - 1 onion, finely minced - 4 garlic cloves, finely minced - 1 Fresno chili minced - 2 pounds jumbo lump crab meat (I prefer fresh dungeness crab in season mid-November) - 1 1/2 cups panko crumbs - 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, with 1 Tbsp olive oil infused with - 1 gram distillate stirred in (add additional olive oil if needed) - 1 large egg - 1/2 lime, zested and juiced - 1/4 cup freshly chopped cilantro leaves, plus whole leaves, for garnish - Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
98
DIRECTIONS: * Make the crab cakes first so they have time to firm up in the refrigerator before you cook them. Heat a 2-count of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until the onion gets kind of caramelized. Dump that into a bowl and fold in the crabmeat, panko crumbs, infused mayonnaise, egg, lime zest juice and cilantro, mixing just until well blended. Season with salt and pepper. Shape the mixture into 6 fat crab cakes. Put them on a plate, cover, and stick them in the refrigerator to chill. Dip in 1) flour, 2) egg, 3) panko crumbs at cooking time. To serve, heat olive oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the crab cakes and cook for about 4 minutes each side until nice and crisp.

EASY POACHED EGGS DIRECTIONS: Heat water: Add enough water to come 1 inch up the side of a narrow, deep 2-quart saucier. Add 1 teaspoon kosher salt and 2 teaspoons white vinegar and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Meanwhile, crack 1 very fresh, cold, large egg into a custard cup or small ramekin. Use the handle of a spatula or spoon to quickly stir the water in one direction until it's all smoothly spinning around. TIP: Use this whirlpool method when poaching a single serving (one or two eggs). For bigger batches, heat the water, salt and vinegar in a 12-inch nonstick skillet and do not stir. Add the egg: Carefully drop the egg into the center of the whirlpool. The swirling water will help prevent the white from "feathering" in the pan.

Mind Bender Blender Hollandaize Sauce DIRECTIONS: In the container of a blender, combine egg yolks, mustard, lemon juice and hot pepper sauce. Cover, and blend for about 5 seconds. Place butter in a glass measuring cup. Heat butter in the microwave for about one minute, or until completely melted and hot. Melt in 3 grams distillate. Set the blender on high speed, and pour the butter into the egg yolk mixture in a thin stream. It should thicken almost immediately. Keep the sauce warm until serving by placing the blender container in a pan of hot water. Toast slices of sourdough with cannabutter for the base!
Turn off the heat, cover the pan and set your timer for 5 minutes. Don't peek, poke, or stir the egg in any way. Remove the egg with a slotted spoon.
