DOM BOOKMAN Kinship Gardens: Growing Successful Cannabis Brands

Dom Bookman, founder and CEO of Kinship Gardens, brings years of expertise as a serial marketer and tech entrepreneur. Guiding startups and early-stage companies, Dom currently serves as the Chief Marketing Officer of Revenant Holdings, contributing his expertise to elevate the brand’s impact in the cannabis space. Recently, we had the chance to sit down with Dom to find out more about his journey in the cannabis space.

Introduction and Background VEGAS CANNABIS MAGAZINE: Can you tell us about your journey and how you created Kinship Gardens? DOM BOOKMAN: Kinship evolved from collaborating on different projects with people, like my CRO Kevin Wallace, whom I considered family. We not only bonded over similar career paths but also genuinely enjoyed working together so we started a company to do stuff we believe in. VCM: What motivated you to focus on the cannabis industry? DB: Other than my love for the power of the plant, I thrive on addressing formidable problems and challenges. I view the cannabis industry as a chance to leave a significant impact in a growing field while also contributing to the well-being of others. VCM: How does Kinship Gardens operate, and what is its primary business model? DB: As a venture studio, we own and operate a portfolio of brands in the cannabis industry, with a primary emphasis on enhancing the consumer experience. We're dedicated to fostering a connection we refer to as "culture fit." VCM: Are there any specific trends you find particularly exciting or challenging for your clients? DB: Absolutely, in our venture studio, we find the convergence of traditional and new cannabis consumers through education and culture incredibly exciting. One noteworthy trend is the increasing demand for educational content about cannabis products and their benefits. Bridging the knowledge gap is not only fulfilling but also essential in establishing a real connection with consumers.

Challenges and Opportunities VCM: What challenges do brands commonly face, and how does

12

Kinship Gardens address these challenges? DB: Absolutely, at Kinship, we're delving into untapped opportunities within the cannabis market, particularly in the realm of building authentic consumer experiences. While the industry has catered extensively to insiders and shelves, we recognize the potential to connect directly with consumers through innovative and exciting approaches. VCM: Are there any untapped opportunities in the cannabis market that Kinship Garden is exploring? DB: Our focus is on pioneering a new wave in cannabis, specifically through hospitality. By bringing fresh and creative ideas to market, we aim to elevate the consumer experience, akin to traditional consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. This approach allows us to not only meet but exceed the expectations of cannabis enthusiasts, providing them with memorable and meaningful interactions with our brands.

Brand Development VCM: Can you share a success story where you and Kinship Gardens played a crucial role in the development of a brand? DB: Certainly, one notable success story for Kinship Gardens involves our partnership with the NFL player-founded brand Revenant, where I also hold the role of Chief Marketing Officer. Taking on the challenge, I played a crucial role in developing the MAC 9 brand for Jim McMahon. Working alongside an exceptional team at Revenant, it has been a truly rewarding experience to witness the brand's phenomenal success. We embarked on a journey to authentically connect with football fans through the infusion of cannabis into the culture. This venture served as our inaugural case study, showcasing the transformation of a celebrity likeness, football culture, and cannabis into a brand that resonates deeply with its audience. I must attribute much of the success to the invaluable guidance and mentorship provided by our CEO, Mike Lankford, and the influential presence of Kyle Turley. Their contributions have not only shaped the triumph of the brand but also significantly contributed to my personal growth within the cannabis industry.

Innovation and Differentiation VCM: How does Kinship Gardens foster innovation within the cannabis space? DB: At Kinship, we innovate in the cannabis space with a consumercentric focus, consistently identifying opportunities in products, delivery methods, and brand experiences. A prime example is our flagship brand and event, Bloomcon, set to be a pioneering wellness festival that connects brands and consumers in a unique way within the industry.

Community Engagement VCM: How does Kinship Gardens contribute to and engage with the cannabis community? Are there any community initiatives or partnerships that you are particularly proud of? DB: Kinship is deeply committed to contributing to and engaging with the cannabis community on multiple fronts. One notable avenue is through partnerships with organizations and initiatives that align with our values. We take immense pride in our collaboration with the Gridiron Greats Charity and their golf tournament, supporting their noble cause within the community. Additionally, our involvement in veteran initiatives, particularly through the Mission by Revenant team, underscores our dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those who have served our country. Within our family, The Bookman Foundation plays a significant role in driving positive change. We are actively engaged in initiatives focused on local

These community initiatives and partnerships are not just points of pride for Kinship Gardens but emblematic of our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful change and fostering a positive impact within the cannabis community. VCM: Are there any upcoming projects or developments that you're excited about? DB: Absolutely, we have an upcoming project that has us buzzing with excitement at Kinship Gardens. As I mentioned earlier, our flagship brand and event, BloomCon, is set to launch during Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas this year. It's going to be an extraordinary initiative featuring celebrity appearances, musical performances, and exciting giveaways from brands looking to make a statement. Taking a Coachella-like approach to alternative wellness, we're eager to see how our brand partners shine at this event. Personally, I'm particularly thrilled about a young brand in our portfolio called Warpd Labs. They consistently bring innovative and cool offerings to our customers, and I can't wait to see their impact at BloomCon. It's shaping up to be an unforgettable experience, and we're looking forward to making a significant mark in the cannabis and wellness space.

Personal Reflection VCM: What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to enter the cannabis space? DB: For aspiring entrepreneurs venturing into the cannabis space, my advice is rooted in authenticity and commitment. Showcasing integrity by delivering on your promises holds immense value in this industry. Stay true to who you are and engage only in

High Tech Healing Botanical Support for Your Wellness Journey

In the heart of our community, a local herbal business, High Tech Healing, stands as a testament to the power of passion, entrepreneurship, and the rich tapestry of flavors and benefits that botanicals can offer. High Tech Healing is not only deeply rooted in the ancient tradition of using herbal remedies for wellness, it is also proudly a minority and woman-owned business, and has become a rich resource for those seeking support on their wellness journey.

Tea but not Tea

In an era where consumers are increasingly seeking natural alternatives for their well-being, High Tech Healing has emerged as a beacon of herbal excellence, offering a diverse range of drinkable blends designed to cater to the nuanced needs of everyday consumers. This company's herbal infusions (that are brewed the same as tea) transcend the conventional, with each blend meticulously curated to support specific health goals, while also adding fruits for flavor. Their offerings include blends that support everything from hormone balancing to promoting gut health, bloating, reducing cortisol levels, and sleep support and more, their offerings stand as a testament to the marriage of traditional wisdom and modern science. High Tech Healing’s herbal tisanes are not merely beverages- they are a holistic approach to health, all while offering rich flavors.

18

Vision and Mission

At the core of High Tech Healing, are Reminders of the Divine Design™. This philosophy is a commitment to helping individuals achieve optimal health and vitality through personal awareness and tools, such as teas, to help see improvements. “Our bodies are so beautifully created that so much of our internal functions require no effort on our part, that’s what I call High Tech! Then when we look at the nature around us and explore the studies and results of their beneficial contents, it’s something that’s worth being reminded of regularly.” Their mission is to empower individuals to take charge of their health through education, personalized guidance, and the implementation of effective cleansing programs from beginner to high level. Founded by a visionary woman with a profound love for all things earth related, Saba Tesfay of High Tech Healing, states she began studying herbs 15 years ago and has been experiencing and witnessing the tremendous benefits of their applications. Over the years Saba has been offering regiments and formulas to support friends and family, until they finally encouraged her to offer these services to the public. Herbalism has stayed a part of Saba’s journey as she continued her education in the field while simultaneously offering international consulting in sustainability. Saba also served as the former Vice President of the US Hemp

Building Association and worked with natural builders and farmers all throughout the country as the organization got hemp-lime, also known as hempcrete, accepted as an approved methodology within national building codes through the ICC as a natural building material. So while tending to the wellness of the earth is always a part of this business owner’s path, she has dedicated to support individuals as interest in personal health is on the rise. Saba explains, “Sustainability or Regenerative solutions are not limited to our outer environment, this also is based on the sustainability of our energy in any given relationship. The relationships we have with co-workers, family, ourselves, or even things such as time or money. When we optimize our sustainability in these areas, using things such as teas or cleanses that incorporate mental awareness, I’m positive that our outer environment and systems will also follow suit with a lot more ease,” she goes on to say, “We are extensions of the earth, so our wellbeing reflects in our environment. As within, so without.” A Commitment to Quality and Authenticity Central to the ethos of this woman-owned company is an unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity. Unlike mass-produced teas, often found on supermarket shelves, this company sources its teas from sources that adhere to sustainable and organic practices. The emphasis on quality is evident in the carefully curated selection of blends, each chosen for its unique flavor profile, aroma, and health benefits.

Tailored Cleanse Programs

In today's fast-paced world, where stress and unhealthy lifestyle choices have become the norm, individuals are increasingly seeking ways to rejuvenate their bodies and minds. One avenue that has gained significant popularity is the incorporation of cleansing programs offered by health and wellness companies. Amidst the plethora of options available, this particular company stands out for its commitment to offering cleanses designed to work on the body from the inside out. High Tech Healing offers a monthly “cleanse” program designed to enhance individuals' physical and mental health. Unlike fad diets that may deprive the body of essential nutrients, the programs are crafted with a focus on providing the body with a rich supply of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Understanding Cleanses

Cleansing has long been recognized as a practice to eliminate toxins and impurities from the body. The human body is exposed to various pollutants, processed foods, and stressors in daily life, leading to the accumulation of harmful substances. A cleanse, when done effectively, aims to reset the body's natural balance, supporting organs like the liver and kidneys in their detoxification processes.

Tailored Cleansing Programs

What sets High Tech Healing apart is its emphasis on personalized approaches to cleansing. Recognizing that individuals have unique health profiles and goals, the company offers a range of cleanses that can be personalized to address specific concerns. Whether someone is looking to boost energy levels, lose weight, or improve digestion, High Tech Healing is committed to supporting their clients. Health is not just about the physical body; it encompasses mental and emotional well-being as well. This company adopts a holistic approach to wellness, incorporating practices that promote mental clarity and emotional balance alongside physical cleansing. From mindfulness exercises to expert guidance on stress management, the programs offered are designed to foster a comprehensive sense of well-being. High Tech Healing is often doing pop-ups at events around town and is present at the local farmer’s markets every Saturday at Downtown Summerlin and Sunday at St. Rose Parkway Fresh 52 Market. Chamber of Cannabis Looking Forward to the Coming Year

Despite a year of considerable hardships for the Nevada cannabis industry including a deficit of nearly $115 million in total retail sales from Fiscal Year 2022 to Fiscal Year 2023, the past year was undeniably a red-letter year for the Nevada cannabis industry, or rather a green-letter year. Though it was a busy year for advocates attending nearly endless meetings with both the Cannabis Compliance Board and Las Vegas City Council about every particular regulation of the eventually opening consumption lounges, the licenses for those lounges were finally awarded in 2023. The several cannabis-related conventions in Las Vegas, from the massive MJBizCon to the long-running Champs Trade Show to the inaugural Cannabis Business Times’ Conference and even the Indoor Agriculture Convention, were all very well-attended by cannabis professionals and advocates from across the globe. For The Chamber of Cannabis especially, 2023 was nothing short of a historically monumental year. Along with consistently having at least a handful of members attending every crucial CCB and City Council meeting, the Chamber hosted several important meetings throughout 2023 that featured key Nevada representatives from both sides of the increasingly divided political aisle, such as State Senator Rochelle Nguyen and Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant. The Chamber made sure to utilize and collaborate with supportive businesses, such as hosting a number of memorable events at the elegant and first truly cannabis-friendly hotel, The Lexi. Along with collaborations with local non-profit organizations, the Chamber of Cannabis definitely made cannabis advocacy history for the Silver State in April. On a perfectly warm spring day, the Chamber proudly led a passionate army of 25 dedicated professionals and activists representing all sections of the Nevada cannabis industry and advocacy community up the steps of the Nevada Capitol Building and into important committee meetings and discussions

20

with key legislators. The multi-faceted and direct approach to simultaneous advocacy for patients and industry professionals alike proved ultimately successful, as several different cannabisrelated bills were signed into state law by sheriff-turned-Governor Joe Lombardo. These pieces of legislation will almost certainly be beneficial for the once flourishing industry that fell upon difficult times in 2023. “The downward trend in cannabis sales is being felt across the supply chain,” Chamber of Cannabis Secretary Abby Kaufmann recollected, “in addition to the increasingly problematic issue of receivables and collections, we are seeing several national brands leaving Nevada and an increasing number of receiverships.” Into 2024, the Chamber has equally as many groundbreaking plans and actions to continuously strengthen the Nevada cannabis industry into the new era that a doubling of the daily purchasing limits and several other reformative measures usually caters in for a nascent industry. “A lot of our hard work is coming to fruition,” explained Chamber of Cannabis Vice President Dani Baranowski, “so there’s still a sense of optimism. It was so empowering when we went to Carson City and we got to experience firsthand that the legislators might not know everything about cannabis, but they understand its importance, necessity and place. So, there’s less resistance to the concept of the industry. Being part of the legislative process was nothing short of incredible and made us feel cemented in history as the people riding, guiding and directing.” Because the majorly reformative provisions of Senate Bill 277 had taken effect only two weeks ago at the time of writing this article, it’s hard to already determine specifics into how the doubling of daily purchasing limits has

positively impacted the Nevada cannabis industry, yet Baranowski, Kaufmann and the Chamber remain eminently hopeful. “As far as my role as a professional and someone who represents brands and cultivation, we have seen that consumers are already maxing out their purchase.” Baranowski described. “I don’t think it’s just a one time thing where people only max out the first time. Consumer habits are going to change with cannabis commoditizing, and people want to buy more. We’re also getting smarter at cultivating it, so we can cultivate more volume and the consumers are very excited.” As for whether or not SB 277 will help in recovery from the $115 million deficit in sales from the previous year, Baranowski believes the doubling in daily purchasing limits will work in tandem with other opportunities that will soon become a well-frequented reality for the Nevada cannabis industry, such as the eventually opening consumption lounges with a strong emphasis on the word eventually. Kaufmann remains equally as hopeful as to the outcome of the possibilities of economic improvement that SB 277 will bring. “While I don’t think any one change can single-handedly fill in the gap in year-over-year sales, I am optimistic that we will start seeing the needle move in the right direction in 2024.” Kaufmann said. “Since the daily purchase limits increased on January 1st, our team has received an influx of messages from retail operators telling us that they saw an immediate uptick in sales once SB277 went into effect, which we are thrilled to hear!” Still though, even if the combination of consumption lounges and an increase in purchasing limits successfully get the Nevada cannabis industry out of the FY2023 slump, Baranowski stresses that issues will still persist as long as the disadvantageous conditions of Tax Code 280E are presently active. “We need to have access to traditional banking and we don’t need to be paying these unnecessary taxes. Cannabis companies deserve to take normal tax deductions and that inhibits a sustainable business environment.” With 2024 being not only a presidential election but also one where powerful seats in Nevada are up for re-election such as Senator Jacky Rosen’s seat, the Chamber has several ways that they’ll remain at the forefront of cannabis being a major voting issue in this year’s elections. “Our goals this year are to focus on increasing education and acumen for all in whatever direction we can support.” Baranowski explained. “We’d like to provide more opportunities for people to meet their

legislators and provide opportunities to understand everything about the Legislature and how that can affect cannabis policy. Because it is a challenging time, we have to consider the most strategic way to become the best and most nimble industry players, and this is one way you can do that.” The Chamber of Cannabis and their army of professional activists will continue to make connections and build rapport with cannabis industry-supporting candidates on all sides of the political aisle. With an estimated total of 18,000 active agent cards in Nevada, that’s a considerable voting block especially for local elections. The organization will be coordinating many different ways and avenues for Nevadans to register to vote for candidates who support their right to decide their own medical choices and/or their employment. And working in conjunction with their Political Action Committee, the Chamber will put these initiatives at the forefront of their activism in the new year. “Our goals for the 2024 elections are to make sure that those candidates know who we are. That’s first and foremost.” Baranowski discussed. “We can help spread the information that they share with us. Not necessarily telling people who to vote for, but showing people how these candidates have voted in the past and resource sharing, all within the scope of green-friendly candidates.” Baranowski said. “Cannabis is a non-partisan issue and there are people from each party who are supportive. It’s not as polarizing as other issues politically. So as more people are finding themselves in the middle, candidates are finding that cannabis can bridge that gap and could win people over from both sides of the aisle.” “In addition to participating in voter registration drives at dispensaries, we will be launching a voter education initiative which will include several opportunities to interface with the candidates directly.” Kaufmann informed. “We don’t just want to educate the industry on which candidates support sensible cannabis policy, we also want to educate our candidates on the issues that are impacting their constituents.” Starting with their upcoming February meeting, Chamber meetings will now be free to attend for registered members. Moreover, Kaufmann emphasized how the future Chamber meetings will still continue to be very knowledge and education-based, featuring the most decorated subject matter experts in any and all fields relevant to cannabis. “Now is the time to strategize and prioritize what’s important and execute on that.” Baranowski stressed. “When times are tough, these are the times to come together. Our new board is very diverse and has a lot of skill sets and are empowered with specific goals that they’re already executing so it’s going to be an intentional and productive year.”

Chinese New Year Traditions and cannabis A Modern Twist on Ancient Celebrations

>>> BY JADEN RAE While the recreational use of cannabis may not be prominent in modern Chinese culture, its medicinal use in China predates every other country in the world.

Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim psychedelics or plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote entertainment, safety and education.

Chinese New Year, with its vibrant red lanterns, lively dragon dances, and family reunions, marks a joyous time of celebration and rich tradition in Chinese culture. Rooted in centuriesold customs, it's a festival that ushers in prosperity, health, and good luck. This year, Chinese New Year falls on February 10th. Celebrations generally last for 16 days, starting on Chinese New Year’s Eve, and ending with the Lantern Festival, which is on February 24th of this year. 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon, which brings authority, prosperity, growth and abundance, making it a great year to build new foundations for long-term projects and relationships. As we welcome in this Lunar New Year, let's talk about how cannabis, a plant with its own deep historical roots, can offer a uniquely modern twist to the festivities.

The History of Cannabis in China

24

The earliest known pharmacopeia, the "Shennong Ben Cao Jing," dating back to 2737 BCE, marks the beginning of this legacy. The legendary god-emperor Shennong was considered the father of Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and agriculture, and in his ancient texts, cannabis was recommended for a variety of ailments such as gout, rheumatism, malaria, and poor memory. From there, the plant made its way throughout ancient India, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Africa, and eventually, the Americas. (In fact, cannabis was a part of the US Pharmacopeia until it was removed in 1942 for political reasons.) So, when we consider incorporating cannabis into Chinese New Year celebrations, we're not just adding a modern element. We're paying homage to a plant that has been an integral part of Chinese medicinal history for millennia.

What Does Cannabis Have to Do With the Lunar Cycle?

The lunar calendar, based on the moon's phases and distance from the earth, plays a big role in the growth and development of cannabis plants, just as it does with other forms of vegetation. Though the moon, being a reflector of light, cannot trigger photosynthesis in plants like the sun, it influences other vital aspects of plant growth with its gravitational pull, such as the

flow of sap within the plant. For cannabis growers, understanding the lunar calendar can be highly beneficial. During the waxing phase, when the moon is fuller, the sap in plants tends to rise towards the upper parts. This phase is optimal for activities like pruning or taking clones. During the waning phase, as the moon diminishes, sap descends towards the roots, making it an ideal time for germination or planting. Incorporating lunar cycles into cannabis cultivation aligns the growing process with the natural rhythms of the moon. This awareness can lead to healthier plants and potentially more bountiful yields, as each phase of the moon is harnessed to optimize different stages of the plant's life cycle.

Ways To Incorporate Cannabis into Chinese New Year Celebrations

Here are some examples of how cannabis can blend seamlessly into the festivities and enhance the experience while maintaining respect for tradition. Infused Culinary Delights: Cooking is a central part of Chinese New Year, and incorporating cannabis into traditional recipes can be a fun experiment. Consider infusing cannabis into oils or butter, and use them to prepare classic dishes like dumplings or spring rolls (obviously, with the knowledge and consent of those consuming them). It's a subtle way to blend the old with the new, creating dishes that not only taste great but also bring a modern flair to the table. Cannabis-Infused Tea Ceremonies: Tea holds a significant place in Chinese culture as well. Introducing cannabis-infused teas can be a novel way to unwind and reflect. Select a strain with calming effects and blend it with traditional Chinese teas. Love, Marriage, and a Business in Cannabis

>>> Meet the Owners of LOCKGREEN 20 years ago, when dial up/DSL internet connected us, prior to “there’s an app for that”, and before vegans had 10-plus types of plant milk, an athlete and cannabis enthusiast from the east coast, and a Delta from the midwest who was passionate about being a boss, were walking separate paths that led them to the same place: Virginia, the state for lovers.

through high school in Hamilton, NJ. During that time I played football and other sports. After years of honing in on my athletic prowess, I earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Virginia.”

started to date.”

The start of the celebration, the meet that happened in the state for lovers. Please tell us how and when this happened?

20 years later, Sarah Morton and Ron Morton are partners in life and partners in business with LOCKGREEN, a company that gives cannabis consumers across the country peace of mind when safely storing and traveling in a car with their stash.

Sarah: “We met in the Spring of 2004 via AOL Instant Messenger (remember that?!) We had several mutual friends but never connected ourselves until Ron got my screen name from one of our mutual friends and

Ron: “I called the police because my apartment had been burglarized and an officer showed up to take the report. When he arrived, I showed him the damage and we stepped outside of the apartment to talk further because the officer wasn’t comfortable with my pitbull. It was cold outside so we decided to finish taking the report in his car. I threw on a hoodie and walked to his car. Before getting in the car, the officer asked if I had any weapons or drugs on me. At that point, I remembered I had an eighth in the pocket of my hoodie! It was too late then, he searched me, found the weed, and gave a summons to show up to court. This was my first cannabis charge - nonviolent, simple possession and ironically, I caught it while reporting a crime that happened to me.”

Happy 20 years since meeting in Virginia, the state for lovers, and as I say this I realize that the release of this feature will be in February which is Black History Month and Valentine's Day. We are celebrating all kinds of love! Let’s start with where each of you are from and where your roots link to? Sarah: “I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Both my mom and dad were from Coastal Virginia (Suffolk and Virginia Beach, respectively) so we would spend summers and Christmas break in Virginia every year growing up. When I graduated high school, I got a scholarship to the University of Virginia (UVA) which is where Ron and I met later as students. After college, I moved to northern Virginia outside of DC (the DMV area) and later to the Coastal Virginia area where my parents are from. We now live in Virginia Beach, VA.”

28

By Veronica Castillo

Ron: “My roots link to the south, mostly North Carolina and South Carolina, however, I was born and raised in Trenton, NJ where I was raised with my mother and grandmother. I attended elementary school

reached out to me. I wasn’t sure who he was, so we agreed to meet at an upcoming party that both of us were going to. When I saw this tall, dark, handsome man, I thought, how have we never met before?” Ron: “I met Sarah in my second year at UVA when I would often see her in the lunch hall. We had mutual friends but never directly interacted. It wasn’t until I sought out her AIM messenger handle, that I directly engaged with her to get to know her better. After a conversation or two, I wanted to rendezvous in-person so she could know I wasn’t a random person just chatting with her online. I asked her if she was attending a party so we could meet around familiar people. From there we became close and

3.5 grams presented a life altering event. Please tell me about Ron’s arrest in college.

Sarah, can you share your experience as Ron’s girlfriend/partner while he was going through this? Sarah: “I was not opposed to cannabis at this time, but I was opposed to the additional risk of getting in legal trouble that it added to his life. I truly understood that this situation was an honest mistake, but I still resented his involvement with it. I mean I smoked occasionally in college, to me it was like drinking, something fun to do but nothing worth getting in legal trouble for. I didn’t know then what I learned later. It was years later when Ron and I were discussing the possibility of him working in the cannabis industry that I learned more about the medical benefits of cannabis, its horrible history of prohibition, the disproportionate

impact that the War on Drugs has had on the Black community overall, and other social issues.” The business of cannabis became a legal thing years later with Denver becoming a legal cannabis/adult use state, and Ron wanted to explore that. Sarah, my understanding is that you didn’t. Can you tell me about that? Sarah: “Back in 2010, Ron told me about wanting to move to Denver, CO to be involved in the cannabis industry, I was definitely opposed. We just had our 2nd child less than a year prior, we owned a house, and I had a great career. The problem was that HE did not have a great career and he was having trouble finding a stable job due to the cannabis conviction on his record, despite having a college degree. To me, cannabis was the reason for all of these issues so I couldn’t understand why he wanted to get involved in something that caused so much drama.” So how did Sarah go from NO to YES? Sarah: “I saw him working hard to apply for better jobs, I saw him ALMOST get hired for jobs that he really wanted, and I also saw him determined to figure out a way to get around the hurdles while also pursuing an industry that he was passionate about. It was going to take great risk, but what was the alternative - staying in Virginia and struggling? No, he would rather struggle to figure out something new in a place where he would not be penalized for his past mistakes, and as his wife, I eventually chose to support him in that next step. I became more educated on the industry and Ron’s passion around it. We decided that he would go and “try it out” alone because uprooting our family would be too much to do solely based on a dream at that point. Before he left for Denver, he sold his car so he would have money to live on while he literally started from the bottom of the industry to work his way up.” The launch of LOCKGREEN, walk me through the day the idea was born. Sarah: “Our family moved back to Virginia in early 2021 where Ron worked in the Virginia cannabis market and we soon started LOCKGREEN. In April 2021, Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam made a surprise decision to push up the date to legalize adult-use cannabis to July 2021 instead of in 2024 as it was originally planned in legislation. Everyone in Virginia was excited, including us, but we also knew that the devil can be in the details. We read the law as it was (and currently still is) written and saw that Virginia’s cannabis open container law was unclear and confusing. It stated that anything other than an “originally sealed manufacturer’s container” carrying cannabis in a moving vehicle would be deemed an open container and traveling with an open container is a misdemeanor in Virginia. Despite Virginia legalizing adult use, we still have no legal retail market, so there is no way that a law-abiding citizen outside of the medical program can legally transport cannabis in a car that they grew or were gifted (both legal in Virginia) since there is not a store to buy it from in a sealed manufacturer’s container.

Additionally, statistics show that as more and more states legalize, unfortunately there are more and more calls to poison control and ER visits due to kids and even pets ingesting cannabis. So the question was then, how do we help PROTECT cannabis consumers and help PREVENT others from getting cannabis law violations and suffering the consequences, like Ron did? Our answer: LOCKGREEN.” Most people/businesses have a what to their why. The stash boxes that LOCKGREEN offers are the what, what's the company’s why? Sarah: “Our company’s why is rooted in our decision to be more than just a stash box company, but to positively impact people’s lives. For example, after launching LOCKGREEN, Ron started LOCKGREEN Consulting, which supports licensed cultivation facility operators across the country as a Commercial Commercial Equipment Consultant. The harsh reality: Year after year, more people are arrested for cannabis than for any other drug in the United States. Even worse, Blacks are 4x more likely to be arrested for cannabis than Whites, which means our communities disproportionately bear the consequences of marijuana convictions. The consequences are life-changing, such as barriers to employment, housing, child custody, student loans, and more. Ron has experienced consequences first hand and we want to help prevent others from experiencing that burden.” In the spirit of February (Black History Month, Valentines Day, and Ron and Sarah’s anniversary, in addition to their 20 year meeting anniversary in the state for lovers) I asked Ron and Sarah to give 5 tips to partners in love, going into partners in business. They responded: 1) Communicate often and set specific times to meet with each other about the business just like you do with others. 2) Be open to listen to each other’s wild ideas without judgment. 3) Choose a leader and/or agree on delegating specific tasks. 4) Cover for each other (professionally, emotionally) when needed. 5) Have a shared calendar to help you stay on one page. To learn more about Sarah, Ron, and LOCKGREEN, visit them online at lock-green.com. love & wellness >>> Elevate Your Intimacy Whether you're flying solo or enjoying the company of a partner, let's elevate our intimacy this Valentine's Day (and beyond). Recognizing our natural desires, there exists a range of wellness tools to explore, taking intimate moments to new heights. Whether it's intensifying pleasure, achieving memorable orgasms, or relaxing and priming our bodies for a night of fun, let’s tantalize our senses for moments of unforgettable pleasure.

production and enhanced blood flow, setting the stage for an indulgent evening. Take it a step further by opting for interactive foods, such as feeding each other grapes fresh from the vine or sharing a mini fondue pot. The possibilities are boundless, transforming an ordinary night into an extraordinary date filled with culinary delights that tantalize the taste buds and ignite passion.

Aromatherapy: Enhance your romantic environment

CBD is not commonly associated with bedroom products, though it deserves attention for its remarkable potential in intimate settings. CBD-infused lubricants and suppositories bring a diverse array of benefits, contributing to heightened pleasure, intensified orgasms, and relief from discomfort. CBD acts like a vasodilator, just like Viagra, heightening sensitivity and pleasure. In fact, men have reported being able to achieve and maintain an erection longer when using CBD suppositories. Furthermore, CBD can help ease discomfort felt by intercourse, penetration, and much more making it an ally for individuals facing chronic pain, assisting in the fulfillment of sexual desires that might otherwise be challenging. CBD lubricants are also great for those with any vaginal dryness and discomfort that is often associated with menopause and hormonal changes. And for those engaging in anal sex or play, CBD products emerge as a supportive companion, promoting relaxation and minimizing discomfort. CBD intimacy products are a great addition to elevate pleasure to new heights and they offer a holistic solution for a range of intimacy concerns.

Sexual experiences extend beyond mere touch; all five senses play crucial roles, with our sense of smell standing out. Scientifically, scent is intricately tied to memory and emotions. When we inhale a fragrance, it travels to the olfactory bulb, triggering an immediate emotional response and forging a direct connection between the scent and the emotions we undergo. To unlock the romantic potential of our sense of smell, essential oils emerge as potent tools to elevate intimacy and intensify emotions and connections. Natural aphrodisiacs like jasmine and ylangylang can be harnessed to set a sensuous mood for a night of pleasure. Alternatively, the use of rose oil can induce feelings of love and romance, adding a layer of depth to the experience. The options are limitless, encouraging you to explore and experiment with essential oils to craft a romantic atmosphere tailored to your desires.

Massage Oils and Candles: Relax and unwind before a good time Indulging in the art of massage is a wonderful means to unwind the entire body and foster a deeper connection, whether with your partner or during a solo session. Beyond mere relaxation, massage promotes improved blood circulation, heightening pleasure and sensitivities. It also proves beneficial in alleviating sore muscles and reducing inflammation, preparing the body for the experiences that lie ahead. Massage candles and oils are exquisite additions to this sensory

journey. Massage candles deliver a warming and pleasurable sensation as the wax melts and is applied to the body. If warm wax is not for you, massage oils also contribute to the tactile pleasure of the experience, tantalizing the sense of touch and intensifying every sensation. Elevate your massage sessions with these sensual elements, creating an ambiance of tranquility and pleasure.

Charcuterie Board of Love: Aphrodisiac Delights

Throughout history, food has been a cherished ally in heightening the tapestry of sexual experiences. Picture crafting a charcuterie board, a sensual ensemble brimming with aphrodisiac delights designed to awaken primal instincts, kindle desire, and amplify pleasure. The array of carefully chosen foods becomes a symphony of flavors and textures, enhancing the overall sensory experience. There are a wide range of foods we can utilize, including cherries, strawberries, chocolate, almonds, and figs – not only are they delectable treats but also contributors to increased pheromone

This was the last product I sampled this month. I sparked up this bad boy and was so comfortable that I blew off everything. I had 3 hours to finish writing and editing photos. Well, I guess I was so relaxed and comfortable that I lost track of time, and completely forgot what I was supposed to be doing, and just messed around for a few hours with no regard to my deadline. I have no excuse. I became so complacent that I was continually distracted. I sang songs on the radio, played my melodica, rode my electric skateboard, and stacked rock formations until I came down from my cloud and realized that I was inundated with text messages and missed calls. Functional mushrooms >>> Food + Medicine

By: Terry Bruesehoff, RN BSN

What are Functional Mushrooms?

Functional mushrooms are nutrient-rich mushrooms that provide a variety of health benefits. They have been used for thousands of years as both food and medicine. There are different kinds of functional mushrooms, each of which provides its own unique benefits. In recent years, functional mushrooms have been growing in popularity. They have Nootropic Qualities, and are actually good for your brain, mindset and immunity! The term “adaptogen” refers to a group of compounds found in plant foods that can help the body adapt to stress of all kinds, whether it be chemical, biological or physical. This helps us to ward off any illness or disease that could be a result of these stressors and maintain our internal homeostasis. Suggestions for Stoney Reading Freaks By Shwa Laytart

She's a Badass: Women In Rock Shaping Feminism By Katherine Yeske Listening to and writing about music has always been a deep love of mine. So when Katherine Yeske Taylor’s book landed in my hands, I was exhilarated. Not only are some of my favorite musicians included in the book, but Taylor herself is a rock star in her own right. She, too, has been obsessed with listening to and writing about music for most of her life. Taylor’s journey begins in a suburb of Atlanta, while attending a high school journalism class. Dismayed by the thought of covering things like student government, Taylor asked if she could interview well-known musicians she was discovering in Rolling Stone magazine. It was a faculty member’s dismissive response, “Sure… if you can get anyone to do it,” that changed the course of her life. Taylor was able to get, not just anyone, but some of the largest performers in the late 80s Atlanta music scene to give her a chance. She has been writing about music ever since, and smashing it every step of the way. With twenty interviews throughout the book, She’s a Badass accumulates some of the biggest female rockers that have ever set foot on stage. Taylor achieves in-depth, personal stories that most interviewers scramble to accomplish. These stories of struggle and determination not only give you an inside track to how difficult the music industry is for women, it also inspires readers of all genders to fight for what they love and believe in. Right out the gate, chapter one comes out punching. With Suzy Quatro, the original androgynous rock and roller who didn’t put up with shit from men and attacked music like a chainsaw wielding lumberjack. Suzy Q opened up for hard rock bands like Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper. She never compromised who she was and what she wanted to do. To this day, Suzy Quatro continues to be an icon for female, and androgynous rockers around the world. As a spoken word artist and punker, I have always been inspired by Lydia Lunch. In chapter five, Taylor serves up the best interview with her I have ever read. The piece is historic and reflective and fed me everything I was hoping for from this angry, but gentle, performer. “I don’t think feminist isn’t a radical enough term for what I am. I’m a confrontationalist.” Another epic interview was with Donita Sparks, a founding member of

42

L7. L7 was on the cusp of punk rock, metal and grunge mash ups in the 90s. Donita also inspires people to get active and political. She organized the show Rock for Choice to benefit Planned Parenthood. “If I identified myself as a feminist pre-L7…the mean punk guys would really, really start trying to antagonize me. They really hated that word. It was so threatening to them.” If you’re looking for an original riot grrrl, chapter thirteen does not disappoint. Tobi Vail, drummer for legendary band, Bikini Kill, was lucky enough to have a progressive father who played drums and was happy to teach her what he knew. Both Vail’s father and mother were young when they had her and were enthusiastic to embrace punk rock music when the scene began. But it was the Go Gos and drummer Gina Schock who were Vail’s biggest influence. However, the Olympia, Washington hardcore punk scene didn’t have any (mostly) female groups at the time. Vail wanted to change all that. In 1989, she published the first issue of Jigsaw, a zine that gave Vail a forum to put out her feminist view points. Her “riot grrrl” movement (yes, she coined the name) was an inspiration to other females in the area, including Kathleen Hanna and Kathi Wilcox. Together, with Billy Karen on guitar, Bikini Kill was formed. A band that to this day stands for everything feminist, political and progressive. Even now, female punk singers like Kelly Ogden of The Dollyrots, wear the Bikini Kill band shirt with pride. She’s a Badass: Women In Rock Shaping Feminism by Katherine Yeske Taylor will be celebrated as a quintessential interview anthology of women who have rocked the world of music while persevering through a gauntlet of small dick energy that has and continues to penetrate the music and entertainment industry. Although we’re not out of the woods when it comes to toxic masculinity, it is thanks to these women and those like them, that we have made it this far. You don’t have to be a feminist to enjoy this book, but if you are and/or a lover of music history, I highly suggest you spark up and kick back with a copy of your own. This book is definitely worth Reading Lit! Cannabis Industry Spotlight

As the unstable roller coaster of a year that was 2023 came to an end, the dynamic team at Jardin Premium Cannabis Dispensary has an extensive list of accomplishments to celebrate. Along with hosting several thought-provoking panel discussions featuring distinguished professionals and educators in all relevant subjects of cannabis through Jardin University, the Desert Inn dispensary absolutely swept the ceremony at the Nevada Cannabis Awards and Music Festival in July, winning so many categories that they’re going to need to purchase another display case for their ever-growing collection of trophies and accolades. On top of tremendous retail success and globally known celebrity partnerships, Jardin has also cemented themselves as a powerhouse of local philanthropy and a shining example of why cannabis brands should be more charitably involved. For Pride Month, Jardin partnered with Matrix and a portion of proceeds raised by purchasing Matrix products at the dispensary went to The Pride Foundation, an LGBT-focused charity. Back in February, Jardin was a sponsor for an event hosted by The SLAM! Foundation, a charity dedicated to the expansion of charter schools in lower-income areas founded by the unofficial mayor of Miami and the official Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull. Throughout the calendar year, Jardin had multiple rotating teams of employees that would visit and pack meals at Nevada food banks such as Three Square. In the new year, Jardin will be partnering with the Nevada Public Education Foundation among several other local charities. In the bright new year, hopefully filled with more prosperous days for the Nevada cannabis industry as a whole, Jardin Director of Operations Brittney Agoncillo has quite a bit of notable milestones to celebrate and look forward to simultaneously for both herself and the diversely talented team she leads. To Agoncillo’s credit, those accomplishments were recently acknowledged and dutifully awarded on a grand scale. During the week of never ending but nevertheless groundbreaking cannabis events that was MJBizCon 2023, she won the prestigious Cannabis Activist of the Year Award at the recent Golden Cup Awards. Above all else, Agoncillo certainly agrees that Jardin’s many successes in 2023 were very much a coordinated team effort. “Cannabis is here and it’s here to stay, and it’s not just about growing it in a garage. Yes, you need the scientists, but you also need the operations manager. You also need the journalist to tell the story. You also need the budtender to take care of that community member. You still need data analytics to understand what people need and where we’re going. You still need marketing,

48

accounting and IT.” Agoncillo said. “I think it’s a testament to what we’ve been doing, and when I think of the contributions I’ve made, I think of Jardin and how Jardin has played an integral part to all the activism going on. Because of what we represent and our standards, I think it’s allowed us to open up the door to things that would not necessarily exist for this cannabis industry. I want this industry to win.” Agoncillo also reflected on the many different philanthropic efforts of the dispensary during the 2023 calendar year. “In this year alone, we made over 30,000 meals. Using Jardin as a way to have a safe space with safe access to quality products. Activism for me is serving this plant, not the other way around. There’s so much misinformation out there that people misguide themselves, so it’s my job to come out and say that it isn’t true.” Given the many varied ways in which she valiantly led Jardin to be an award-winning and memorable team and brand on multiple fronts both locally in the Las Vegas Valley and nationally as well, Agoncillo’s Golden Cup award for Cannabis Activist of the Year was incredibly well-deserved. From a clothing brand being donned by the most notable celebrities in many fields of work to dominantly sweeping up cannabis awards like a Christopher Nolan movie at the Oscars, this hip dispensary in East Las Vegas has become known

by josh kasoff

on a national level. “It was a true honor and a humbling experience. Walking on that stage, I didn’t have a speech prepared. I’ve been in this industry for over a decade, and I started in advocacy. When I started in activism, I was running around collecting signatures for this plant. By starting in activism, I had a chance to see this plant from seed to sale. And that’s where I saw a true opportunity to make a difference, because I’ve done everything including growing. What I realized is that where does it go after it’s grown? To the retail floor, and so now I’m using this space to really ensure that we’re getting the word out there. And anyone that walks through our doors, it’s just one more yes vote at the end of the day and that’s why it’s important to take care of our people.” A thrilling decade of grassroots cannabis advocacy which turned into acclaimed cannabis retail management all culminated in Agoncillo receiving the distinguished honor at the Golden Cup Awards. “I literally serve and love this plant. To be able to be recognized in that light after over a decade of service to this plant, I want to continue to do more and more. So, I know 2024 will be even better and we’re really going to get the word out.” In Agoncillo’s own words, activism in cannabis is something that could be as full-time of a job as working directly in the cannabis industry almost always is. “Being involved in cannabis activism requires a great deal of soul and passion. It offers the opportunity to be a voice for others and to raise awareness of the therapeutic properties inherent in this plant, which has the ability to enhance people’s well-being in life and that’s worth advocating for. Cannabis activism involves taking action, providing outstanding representation, fostering community engagement, and innovation to contribute to the global and local perspective.” In what makes for a dedicated cannabis activist who concurrently serves as a cannabis professional, Agoncillo stressed the importance of not only understanding the vital duties of one’s job but also diligence and being as absolutely compliant as possible at all hours of the day. “Think about this. We’re operating legally in a federally illegal market.” Agoncillo emphasized. “So you have to dot your I’s and cross your T’s. Most importantly, you have to know what you’re doing. To be in this industry, you need grit, you need passion and you need perseverance. Because we’re still federally illegal, we’re going to continue to go through these challenges. And as you’re going through these challenges, are you going to give up or are you going to continue?”

In this uncharted and unpredictable year that’s hosting a presidential election regardless, Jardin has monumental plans to keep their award-collecting momentum sailing and bolting through any and all finish lines like Usain Bolt at the Olympics. “We’re going to continue to do community service. We’ll continue to create this avenue where the community can learn more. We want to open up our Jardin University space to the community, so that they can get educated on this plant and have the opportunity to get educated on this plant.” In particular, Agoncillo informed that Jardin University wants to host courses for customers to familiarize themselves with the many botanical and medical components of cannabis consumption, such as terpene science and the various feelings and effects from the thousands of cannabinoids found in any of the varied products displayed on Jardin’s shelves. “Anyone can be an activist if you believe. This industry is so fresh that we need more people to understand what this plant really does.”

Do you have a question about cannabis and wellness? We have the answers. Email your questions to ask.sarah.vcm@gmail.com.

Hi Sarah, I’ve heard that edibles can help with pain and last longer than other methods. However, when I went to the dispensary the options were filled with sugar! I personally cut out most of the sugar from my diet to fight inflammation. Do you have any recommendations by chance for an edible option to help with pain and inflammation that doesn’t have added sugars? Thanks in advance! John Hi John, Thanks so much for writing in. I completely agree with you, sugar should not be added to cannabinoid medicine. I mean no offense to Mary Poppins, but we do not need a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down; it’s the last thing we need. The great news is, there are some options that we can reach for, without added sugars, that offer long lasting relief. Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) or a tincture made with cannabinoid extracts and an oil, such as MCT or olive oil, are great options. They offer a deep level of relief that can last 6 to 8 hours depending on the individual. Both are made without harmful additives, making them a great option for patients.

Hi Sarah, I was wondering, can you explain more about hemp hearts? I’ve heard they are great to eat, but I’m not fully understanding why. Also, do they come from the hemp plant that gives us CBD and if so, do they have CBD? Thanks for your help! Susan

Ask Sarah...

Hi Susan, I appreciate you writing in and am happy to help. I personally love hemp hearts for their nutritional value. Hemp hearts are from the hemp plant, though they are separate from the flowering part of the plant that produces CBD. Hemp hearts are the soft inner part of the hemp seed. While they do not contain cannabinoids, they are deemed a super food by many. Hemp hearts are one of the few foods that offer a

complete source of protein providing all essential amino acids, as well as omega 3’s and 6’s. Hemp seeds are also a great source of vitamin E and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc. Consuming hemp hearts is a great way to support overall health. Research has found hemp hearts can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, reduce inflammation, support digestion, and so much more; making it truly a superfood. Adding hemp hearts into your routine is quite simple as well. Simply add a tablespoon of hemp hearts to smoothie, yogurts, or on top of peanut butter toast. They have a faint nutty flavor that can easily blend with your favorite foods.

Hi Sarah, I hope you can help me and give me some guidance. I feel like I’m lost in the cannabis world as a patient, just trying to figure out what I’m supposed to get to help my pain. I’m hoping you can give me some advice on what products to try to help reduce my pain. I have constant deep joint pain that is causing me agony. I’ve tried a bunch of different strains but haven’t found one that really helps that much yet. I’m getting frustrated that maybe cannabis can’t help me like it does others, but I just really want some relief. I guess this is me taking one more shot. I hope you can help. Sincerely, Lisa Hi Lisa, First and foremost, I completely understand your frustration as a medical patient myself. There is not enough guidance, if any, provided for medical patients despite us having access in our state and there are way too many options to navigate to know what to try. Without knowing exactly what you have that is causing your joint pain, I do have some general recommendations that I think can help you. To begin, when you have high levels of pain an ingestible product is a great option, as they can provide a deep level of long-lasting relief. They take 60 to

120 minutes to take effect but can last 6 to 8 hours. With your pain, I would try RSO. Start with a rice grain drop and increase as needed. While there are a lot of edibles available many are filled with inflammatory sugars that can combat what we want to accomplish with the cannabis. You can also try a clean cannabis tincture, though with extremely high levels of pain that is unrelenting, RSO is usually your best bet. Additionally, try adding a high-quality CBD tincture into your routine to leverage additional cannabinoids to help you. Now that the RSO is helping to manage your base line pain, you need a product for breakthrough pain and immediate relief. This is where smokables come into play as the effects can be felt in 5 to 10 minutes. You can use a vape, concentrate, or flower for this. I like to alternate myself. Vapes and concentrates do have a higher concentration and can be ideal for relieving pain that needs a higher dose of cannabinoids to combat. When it comes to smokables, there are many options so let’s help you narrow your choices down. Terpenes are amazing for just this. They help dictate the benefits the product has. For high levels of pain, many patients, myself included, benefit from cannabis smokables with myrcene, caryophyllene, and linalool. All of these terpenes can combat inflammation, pain, and muscle spasms. Additionally, keeping a journal and simply sticking the labels on the page and writing if it helps you or not, helps you identify exactly what products help you and helps you easily navigate the many products available. For example, if you find strains that are high in myrcene help you the most, always buy products with similar terpenes and you will continuously get the relief you are seeking. Lastly, a CBD topical, such as a patch or lotion, can be great to target the specific joint that is hurting, bringing relief directly to the area. While cannabis may not take away all of your pain, it can reduce it and I hope so much this helps you find the relief you need and deserve.

SIP, NIBBLE & TRIP Psychedelic Salad Dressing *Author’s Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity, nor the sale or trade of illegal substances. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote safety and education.

If you're someone who loves to explore the unconventional, this recipe is about to be your new favorite kitchen adventure. We're talking about Psychedelic Salad Dressing, perfect for whenever you're looking to add a little magic to your meal. Made with a dose of magic mushrooms and some everyday kitchen staples, this dressing is not only easy to whip up, but it also brings a whole new meaning to "spicing up" your salad.

The Magic of Lemon Juice in Psychedelic Cuisine

When it comes to enjoying magic mushrooms, lemon juice is more than just a flavor enhancer; it's an experience amplifier. Why lemon juice, you ask? Let’s talk about it.

Lemon Tek: A Stronger, Shorter Trip

The technique of using lemon juice with magic mushrooms is commonly known as "Lemon Tek." The citric acid in the lemon juice works to break down the psilocybin in the mushrooms. This process, which normally happens in your stomach, is kick-started right in the jar. The result? A more potent and immediate effect. The psilocybin is converted into psilocin (the compound responsible for the psychedelic experience) more quickly, leading to a trip that comes on faster and feels stronger, but has an overall shorter duration.

Easier on the Stomach

Anyone who’s dabbled in magic mushrooms knows they can be a bit rough on the digestive system. This is partly due to the chitin in the mushroom's cell walls, which can be hard to digest. By using lemon juice in our Psychedelic Salad Dressing, we alleviate some of this digestive burden. The mushrooms are effectively pre-digested, allowing your body to absorb the psilocin without having to break down the tough chitin. This means less potential for stomach discomfort, making your psychedelic journey as smooth as your dressing. Just remember, with the potency increased, dosage control becomes even more crucial. It's always wise to start low and go slow. You can always have more, but you can’t have less once you’ve consumed it!

Just in Case

In the event that your psychedelic experience becomes overwhelming, remember that support is just a call or click away. The Fireside Project Hotline is a valuable resource you can reach out to by dialing 62-FIRESIDE or visiting firesideproject.org. Their Psychedelic Support Line is staffed by thoroughly trained, empathetic volunteers who are there to anchor you.

How To Make Your Own Psychedelic Salad Dressing

This recipe makes 1 cup (16 tablespoons) of salad dressing, or enough for 16 servings. Each tablespoon is one serving.

First, Calculate Your Dosage:

Light Microdose: 2 grams magic mushrooms total (125mg per serving)

54

>>> BY JADEN RAE

Heavy Microdose: 4 grams magic mushrooms (250mg per serving) Sense of Wonder: 16 grams magic mushrooms (1 gram per serving)

You Will Need:

Small spice or coffee grinder 16 ounce Mason jar with lid

Ingredients:

Desired dosage of magic mushrooms 1/2 cup fresh squeezed or pure bottled lemon juice 1 garlic clove, very finely minced 2 teaspoons grainy mustard 2 tablespoons honey 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 teaspoon sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:

1. Coarse grind or chop up your magic mushrooms. Just a few pulses in a spice or coffee grinder will do. The finer the powder, the more difficult it may be to strain. 2. In a mason jar, add in the lemon juice and magic mushrooms. Stir to cover the mushrooms. Let sit for 20 minutes. 3. Strain out the mushrooms really well, keeping the lemon juice. Try to squeeze out as much lemon juice as possible. You can discard the spent mushrooms. 4. In the same mason jar, add in the remaining ingredients. Cover with lid securely and shake until the salad dressing is fully combined. 5. Label and date the jar. Make sure your refrigerator-mates know the contents and dosage of the Psychedelic Salad Dressing! It's amazing how a few simple ingredients and a dash of creativity can transform an ordinary meal into something magical. Have fun and remember to enjoy it responsibly. february HOROSCOPES ARIES (MARCH 19 – APRIL 19)

As February unfolds, you discover a newfound ability to empathize with others, fostering strong connections with intriguing individuals. By engaging in shared experiences, it’s a great time to build deep friendships that contribute to personal growth. Collaborations at work and potential joint projects may arise from these connections. However, with the increase of social energy it’s crucial to be mindful of your well-being. Make sure you act with intention instead of making decisions impulsively. The vibrant energy that you started the year with will gradually wane this month. Despite your usual assertiveness, February encourages a heightened ability to listen and understand others. Balance social interactions with moments of quiet introspection, ensuring a holistic and harmonious approach to the month ahead.

TAURUS (APRIL 19 – MAY 20)

Enjoy a bustling wave of productivity with work taking center stage this month. Especially in the beginning half as Venus, Mercury, and Mars are still in earthy Capricorn, your motivation to excel in your professional pursuits will soar. The high level of determination you bring to your tasks will result in substantial financial gains, propelling you forward in your endeavors. You may be feeling restless, so just be careful not to overexert yourself. Prioritize a balanced lifestyle. As we transition from planets in Capricorn to Aquarius, you’ll find yourself more focused on social connections in the second half of the month. You may find yourself challenging conventional rules and perspectives, so be sure to weigh the potential consequences. As the month unfolds, socialize with friends to complement your work focused efforts, and approach increased physical activity with mindfulness to make the most of things.

GEMINI (MAY 20 – JUNE 20)

February brings a reflective period for you, marked by intense work commitment that may limit your time for hobbies and socializing. This demanding schedule won’t put you in the best head space. Moments spent alone can offer valuable opportunities to recover your energy. It’s essential that you stay positive and not let your responsibilities get you down. This month you will be prone to depression as your affinity for social outings clashes with work obligations. You may want to use your free time to catch up with friends, but if you don’t take time to rest and recover you're likely to take out your negativity on those around you. Despite the potential challenges, navigate the gloominess with resilience. Strive to maintain a positive outlook and balance work with personal time to get through the month.

CANCER (JUNE 20 – JULY 22)

58

Cancers will feel powerful with a surge of self confidence this month, particularly in the professional realm. Fearlessly expressing your

opinions and ideas at work will lead your superiors to view you as an equal, creating a positive atmosphere. Your creative flair will shine during this period both in the workplace and your personal life. Seize this opportunity to experiment whether it’s with home decor, your wardrobe, or even with a new hairstyle. Injecting a fresh spark into your relationship will be well-received by your partner or potentials, appreciating the creativity you bring to the table. As the fruits of success manifest, try to indulge in the rewards. This prosperous period is an opportune time to nurture your loved ones, savoring the fruits of your success together.

LEO (JULY 22 – AUGUST 22)

This month, you will experience a surge of creativity but simultaneously embrace a more introverted demeanor. Your mind is brimming with brilliant ideas, yet a recognition that sacrifices may be necessary prompts a rational and measured approach. Before diving into new endeavors, it’s crucial to carefully weigh the pros and cons, ensuring a thoughtful decision making process. Lean into self focus, which will make socializing a bit of a challenge. It’s time to prioritize your own well being so that you can be there for others as the leader you were born to be. You may be inclined to take risks while you have so many inspiring ideas floating around, so be sure to take a cautious evaluation of whether the risk is truly worth the potential consequences from all angles.

VIRGO (AUG 22 – SEPT 22)

February brings forth a strong desire for recognition and a need to be right in all mattress. While this leads to a heightened persuasive ability, it’s essential to exercise caution in how this makes those around you feel. Engaging in unnecessary conflicts may arise if someone opposes you. Be mindful not to overemphasize your point of view, as it could potentially strain your relationships. While interactions with friends will be positive, a sense of restraint in the workplace will help you succeed. Your authoritative stance within the family dynamic will be prominent as you seek to organize and improve the lives of your loved ones. While intentions are noble, be aware that excessive interference may lead to resistance and protests. Strive to find a balance that respects the autonomy of each family member while fostering a supportive environment.

LIBRA (SEP 22 – OCT 22)

A wave of work duties will likely overwhelm you this month as an influx of tasks from superiors creates stress. Insomnia and headaches may manifest as signs that it’s time to slow down and incorporate relaxing activities into your routine. It’s essential to be mindful of a lack of empathy during this period, as sarcasm may become a default coping mechanism. However, exercise caution when letting those inappropriate comments slip, as it can have repercussions both in the workplace and in relationships. The urge to confront situations may be strong, but wait for a more opportune moment when you’re under less pressure to avoid potentially fatal consequences and causing more issues to untangle later on.

SCORPIO (OCT 22 – NOV 21)

Communication and negotiation skills are strengthened this month, particularly in the professional arena. This skill set will lead to significant success at work, possibly translating into a positive financial boost and even a potential promotion. However, it’s important not to let this success go to your head as it could inadvertently create tension with colleagues. Maintain humility and contribute to a positive work environment for all regardless of their roles and responsibilities. Colleagues will find working with you enjoyable, fostering a mutual understanding that you should leverage to its fullest potential. Additionally, this month presents an ideal opportunity for deepening connections with your partner or potential. It’s a great time to consider cohabitations or starting a family.

SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21)

February brings a surge of inner strength and balance for Sagittarians, a fortitude much needed for challenges that this month may bring. A situation may arise where a close person lets you down, presenting a painful hurdle that requires your attention. Despite the initial hurt, this period becomes an opportunity for self trust and forgiveness. Recognizing the need to forgive allows you to avoid getting trapped in sadness, promoting emotional healing. Amidst the month’s challenges, it is advised to be mindful of envious observers. Colleagues and neighbors may be judging you, potentially affecting your reputation without your direct involvement. Embrace the inner strength that surfaces, forgive where necessary, and cherish the genuine connections that stand the test of external scrutiny to get through it.

CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 20)

Capricorn is blessed with exceptional communication skills and heightened empathy this month. Friends will notice and seek your advice, making you a popular confidant within your social circle. While it’s admirable to assist friends and loved ones with their concerns, it’s crucial not to let their complaints and problems overwhelm you. Don’t let their drama get you down. Striking a balance between helping others and prioritizing your own well being is essential. You will be tested to recognize the need for a break from the daily grind and give yourself time away from others to recover. Embracing a period of rest fosters a sense of rejuvenation to keep you at your best and also prepares you for the impending arrival of Spring which is always an invigorating time for you.

AQUARIUS (JAN 20 – FEB 18)

Love is in the air and brings a wave of heightened emotions, creating an opportunity to savor each moment more intensely. This emotional richness encourages dedicating time and energy to your partner or a love interest. You will really enjoy planning a long weekend, holiday, or indulging in a solo wellness retreat for a paradise-like experience, fully immersing yourself in intimate moments. The New Moon in Aquarius on the 9th is a

good time to think about what you want out of your romantic partner(s). Venus entering Aquarius on the 16th amplifies your natural caring and affectionate tendencies. Prioritizing attention to your love interest over flirtations with others becomes crucial, as neglecting your established relationships may lead to conflicts and prevent you from moving forward with someone special.

PISCES (FEB 18 – MAR 19)

You are feeling very tranquil this month, opting for quiet evenings over lively social gatherings. Although it’s the start of your season, there are quite a few planets still in opposing transits which can cause tension in your well being. It’s important to prioritize your health by improving your sleep and dietary habits. Social skills are not at their peak but this period provides an opportune time to reassess priorities and embrace much needed rest. If you find yourself upset around others, consider a moment of solitude to avoid causing harm unintentionally. Utilize time alone for self development and reflect to ensure you aren’t taking anything too personally. It’s likely you’ll be feeling extra sensitive after Mercury enters Pisces on February 22nd.

STRAWBERRY CRUNCH INGREDIENTS

⅛ Cup of THC-Infused Butter, Melted 1½ T Strawberry Gelatin Powder 13 Golden Oreo Cookies (crushed) 15.25-Ounce Box of Strawberry Supreme Cake Mix 1 Cup Whole Milk ½ Cup Canola Oil 3 Large Eggs, Room Temp 3 T Strawberry Gelatin Powder (one pack has 6 spoonfulls)

VANILLA FROSTING INGREDIENTS

60

2 Cups Unsalted Butter, Softened to Room Temp

1 T Vanilla Extract ¼ T of Salt 4 Cups Powdered Sugar, Sifted

OPTIONAL GARNISH:

12 small, fresh strawberries with the green tops still on, halved or quartered if they are very large

PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two muffin pans with paper cupcake liners and a large rimmed baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper. For the strawberry crunch, stir together the THC Infused melted butter and strawberry powder in a medium bowl until the powder has dissolved into the butter. Add the crushed (tips on how to crush below) golden Oreos and stir. All of the cookie crumbs should not be coated with the strawberry gelatin. You want to see a color contrast. Spread the strawberry crunch in an even layer on the parchment-lined rimmed baking tray and bake for eight minutes. Allow to cool on the counter while you prepare the rest of the recipe. Beat together the Strawberry Supreme boxed cake mix, whole milk, canola oil, eggs, and strawberry jello powder for 2 minutes. Divide the batter evenly between the paper-lined muffin cups. Bake for 17 to 19 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for five minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely on the counter. Time to make the frosting while the cupcakes are cooling. Beat the softened THC Infused butter in a large mixing bowl on medium-high speed for two minutes or until the THC Infused butter is light and fluffy. Beat the vanilla extract and salt into the butter. Add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating thoroughly between additions until all the powdered sugar has been added. Transfer your frosting to a large piping bag fitted with a large decorative piping tip. Once your cupcakes have cooled completely, you can place them on a serving platter and pipe the frosting onto the top of the cupcakes. Garnish the top of each cupcake with the strawberry crunch topping and half of a small fresh strawberry.

TIPS:

• Use a large bowl and a handheld electric mixer on medium. • Make sure your frosting is light and fluffy. • Crush the Oreos either in the food processor or in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin to get the crumbs for the strawberry crunch.

Cooking with Cannabushi >>> An Infusion Series with chef chris rodarte I hope you enjoyed last month’s article because….it was a trip! Bringing in the new year with something fun, easy, and entertaining. And, working with others in the cannabis community from around the nation - talk about rewarding. Now this month, we will be making something that everyone can enjoy creating. If you can’t do pork, switch out the protein for chicken and it’s just as delicious. Now let’s get to it.

Asian Inspired Pork Chops Ingredients:

4 Bone-In Pork Chops 4-5 Potatoes of your Choice ¼ Cup of Heavy Cream 1 Cup of Feta Cheese 2 oz. Oregano 1 oz. Minced Garlic 1 Jar of Furikake 1 Bottle of Infused Sesame Oil 1 Stick of CannaButter Salt and Pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

Season your pork chops with a little infused sesame oil. Then, add some salt, pepper and some furikake on both sides. Let these sit to the side and soak in the seasonings for a bit while you peel your potatoes, unless you like the skin. Which is fine and *fun fact* has more nutrients in them as well. Make sure to bring some water in a pot to a boil during this time. Once you have peeled and quartered your potatoes, place them into the already boiling…or close, pot of water. Add a little salt and about a tablespoon of oil. Boil until softened. While waiting for your potatoes to cook, heat a pan at a low-medium heat. Coat the pan with sesame oil (non-infused) and gently place in your pork chops. *The smoking point of sesame oil is lower so keep it on low for now* As your potatoes become softer, try to break down a piece. If it does, strain out the water. Saving just a little bit. Lower the heat at this point. Add your heavy cream while continuing to “mash” your potatoes. If you need to do this off the heat, do so. Add your Cannabutter, oregano, minced garlic, plus some salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly over heat. Flip those Pork Chops if you haven’t already. Making sure to turn the heat to medium at this point. We want a beautiful light brown sear and to keep these nice, and moist. Add your feta cheese to the mashed potatoes and mix well. If you need to add a dash of cream, butter, or other ingredients. I would do so now and remember to taste as you go. As you can definitely over-salt.

Once you have reached an internal temperature of 150 degrees your chops are done! Add some more Furikake as you go to plate them. If you need to raise your temperature during the cooking process please do so as our pans, and stoves could operate differently. Now, place those chops on your plate with some dollops of your potatoes, and you have just made this month’s recipe! I didn’t add a veggie but choose one you prefer, throw some cannabutter in it OR choose not to infuse. Want just a delicious meal without getting the buzz? Replace the infusion materials with regular items. I hope you all enjoyed this article as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you! I recently made this for myself and had some people request it to be in the magazine, so here’s to you guys. This one’s for you. Love it when people want to make it themselves. Remember you can add whatever you like to these recipes or change the protein completely. Want to go further? Put some rosemary and thyme sticks in the heavy cream with the butter, infusing the cream itself with Umami and take it to the next level of amazing culinary ideas and creations. The only limitations are our minds! Keep cooking, chase those passions and remember... The sky's not the limit anymore, Shoot for the Star’s!
