Joins Forces with Redwood Cultivation
Numerology and the many interpretations of it can hold different meanings in cultures around the world. In several languages, the literal word for a number could also have a far more significant meaning. The word for the number nine in Mandarin and Cantonese translates to longevity and eternity while there is the near ubiquitous yet unexplainable fear of the number 13; numerology has been present in cultures in every diverse corner of this vast planet. Outside of worldly cultures, even certain cannabis brands are embracing numerology in the stories of their inception too. Shavo Odadjian, the bassist for the best-selling heavy metal band System of a Down, is an avid fan of both numerology and cannabis. While touring extensively with the band, the Grammywinning bassist and cannabis connoisseur was able to enjoy some of the best cultivations throughout the planet.

BY JOSH KASOFF
However, Odadjian long resisted joining the industry. Then he learned some of his oldest friends were getting more involved in the space, and the right team just clicked at the right time. Taking inspiration from Shavo’s affinity for numerology (22 was a key number in his life), 22Red was born. Given that the glorious combination of both cannabis and music is obviously such a driving force behind the artistry of not just Odadjian but creatives everywhere, 22Red is dedicated to honoring and appreciating innovative artists of all varieties. While cannabis is almost unanimously known as a dedicated aid for enhancing the creative process of nearly every type of art form, few cannabis brands cater directly to creatives and their artforms quite like 22Red. And luckily for cannabis consumers in the Silver State, the brand is now available at Nuwu Cannabis Marketplace, Cookies (the Las Vegas Flamingo store) and Shango in Nevada. Originally founded in California, the brand is popping

>>> up in Nevada thanks to a new partnership with Redwood Cultivation. Arguably the person most excited for this partnership is none other than Odadjian himself. “I’m a creator that's super into genetics,” the legendary bassist explained, “and I’m beyond excited to share our proprietary strains and catalog of products with those in Nevada. To me, it’s like writing a new song, and you can’t wait to see how people are going to react when they hear it. I’m in Las Vegas at least once a month, and System does a big show there once a year called Sick New World, so it’s incredible to be able to share 22Red with our fanbase there.” Since entering the Nevada market in 2021, Shavo Odadjian and the 22Red team have been adamant about offering premium products for consumers who appreciate an elevated cannabis experience. The brand’s recent “Hunt for the Best” (an ongoing program where 22Red seeks the best genetics, cultivars and partners in cannabis) initiative led them to the doorstep of Redwood Cultivation, who share in the brand’s obsession and vision for radically premium cannabis. They source elite genetics from a diverse group of well-known expert breeders, and have developed the logistics to produce not only top-notch indica and hybrid strains but also exceptional sativa-dominant cultivars. Operating in Nevada since 2016, the Redwood facility is equipped with advanced HVAC and dehumidification systems to ensure optimal growth conditions and state-of-the-art computerautomated nutrient and irrigation systems to ensure the perfect levels are delivered to every plant. Meanwhile, post-harvest, the flower is always 100% hand-trimmed to ensure the integrity of every kola. Basically, it’s a marriage of high tech and artisanal cultivation under one roof. Redwood Cultivation is an award winning cultivator whose cannabis ethos and dedication to providing high-end cannabis experiences mirrors 22Red’s. They’re known for the ability to produce a diversity of exotic strains, including many sativas that others avoid due to their longer grow times and special needs. Emphasizing quality over cheap and cheerful, Redwood is the antithesis of corporate cannabis and they are a true partner
14
that enthusiastically embraces 22Red’s guidance and Shavo’s direct involvement. As the founder of 22Red, he also hand selects what is officially added to the menu for consumers to enjoy. According to Odadjian, “We’re so happy to team up with a like-minded facility like Redwood, who grow the most premium weed in Nevada. It’s a match made in Sin City.” Among the products featured on Nuwu, Cookies, and Shango shelves are 22Red’s top-notch strains that provide a variety of effects and diverse terpene profiles with an emphasis on mouthwatering flavor for the true connoisseurs who expect a fuller experience in addition to potency. Some examples of 22Red’s proprietary strains grown for Nevada include the indica-dominant hybrid Red Popz, which has a dark purple hue and tastes like grape while Cuban Gaslight, a sativa-dominant hybrid, has gorgeous dark orange hairs. For consumers who prefer a split even 50/50 hybrid, 22Red has you covered with their citrusy yet also pine-scented Wild Kush. Their flower is currently offered in both 8ths and full gram prerolls. Unsurprisingly, one of the most common feelings after consuming 22Red strains is a boost in creativity. Up next? The brand plans to release their collection of Live Ice Water Hash & Rosin products to the Nevada market in 2024. It’s something worth marking your calendars for, because Ice Water Hash is getting harder to find these days. A labor intensive and costly process, most brands embrace cheaper methods to create hash products at the expense of the final product. But as the brand says on their website, “22Red’s mission is to create an amplified cannabis lifestyle that celebrates the creatives of the world. We take pride in providing badass products across cannabis, music, art, and fashion. We are the trendsetters with uncompromising standards, introducing premium goods to the everyday experience.” Whether Nevada fans enjoy a joint or freshly harvested, terpy flower, the emphasis on excellence moves 22Red clear out of the celebrity brand pool and straight into the halls of craft cannabis creators.

Healing Jenna
Jenna Jameson Regains Her Health at Desert Moon Wellness
What do Jenna Jameson, Jenny McCarthy, a former bodyguard, and pure oxygen inside of a pressurized environment have in common? The therapeutic effects of alternative health treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy that so many are seeking out on their holistic health journeys. Desert Moon Wellness in Las Vegas is home to several treatments that have clients seeing drastically positive results in their health and wellness. Vegas Cannabis Magazine caught up with Jenna Jameson, Jessi Lawless, and Janelle and Cory Ardizzone to discuss their individual journeys and what ultimately led all of their healing paths to cross. Jenna Jameson: I’m from Vegas, I grew up in this town. Jennifer Walker: What a coincidence, so is Stephanie! Stephanie Shehan: That’s right, born and raised… Jessi Lawless: Good to meet both of you ladies! JW: We couldn’t wait to speak with you because we have had a few conversations with Janelle at Desert Moon Wellness, which is what got all of this started. She has spoken so highly of you and your

accomplishments with your personal health and we’d love to hear more about your journey. JJ: When I was dealing with recent health issues, I was living in Hawaii. I started collapsing and fainting and I had really no clue what was happening. They put me in the hospital where they did a battery of tests and they weren’t able to come to a conclusion. It took months for them to finally diagnose me with Guillain-Barre syndrome. Then, they decided it wasn’t Guillain-Barre syndrome. Meanwhile, I was on a rollercoaster of emotions thinking that I had some terrifying disease, coming to terms with that, and then they took it back. They weren’t really able to diagnose me with one thing. Extensive peripheral neuropathy was something else that they suggested, due to the fact that I wasn’t able to walk and was in a wheelchair for a very long time. Going through all of this, there was no real definitive diagnosis, which is why I went the holistic route. Eventually at Desert Moon Wellness, I started NAD treatments and hyperbaric chamber and it was like night and day. Over a three month period, I went from completely immobile to graduating to a walker, and then suddenly I realized I had become strong enough to walk on my own again. Now, I’m fully mobile. I’m working with a trainer and getting stronger and I’m staying completely holistic
with all of my treatments. I try to avoid the hospital as much as possible. SS: No joke! I totally understand that. JW: I can see why you’d feel that way. Especially coming out of the pandemic, many people opt to stay out of the hospital unless absolutely necessary. Seeking a more holistic journey is one that many people are choosing these days. JJ: To take it a step further, I had to literally break myself out of the hospital. They were diagnosing me with things like Conversion Disorder which is essentially a sickness where your mind isn’t able to compute what’s going on with it, so it takes on symptoms of various diseases. It’s essentially a mental problem. They put me into the mental ward in the hospital; it was absolutely insane. Once they released me back to my regular hospital room, I got into my wheelchair and I wheeled myself out and never looked back. Over the next few months, I began heavy physical therapy and brain cognitive exercises with a therapist that would come to my house. This really helped my brain to start reconnecting and gaining my personal strength back. As soon as I was capable, I got on a plane and said goodbye to Hawaii forever. And then, I found love. JW: That’s an incredible story! Around that time, Jessi (Lawless) came into your life which I’m sure lifted your spirits immeasurably. When did you both find out about Desert Moon Wellness? JJ: The owner (Cory) used to be my main security when I lived in L.A. We go way back. We spent 24 hours a day together at one time. He lived with me and escorted me to all of my VIP/red carpet stuff, and we became like brother and sister. Life happened, we both got busy with families and kids, but never lost touch. When everything started going down with my health, I reached out to him and told him that I needed help. I knew I wasn’t well and Cory has an amazing wife (Janelle)... Jessi Lawless: …we love Janelle! JJ: They took me in, I stayed with them and I went balls to the wall
with treatment. JL: They holistically nursed you back to health. JJ: Exactly. My health now is testament to them, their love, and the amazing technology that they have at Desert Moon. I try to do the hyperbaric chamber three times a week. It helps so much, especially with my body but also with clarity of mind. I also use a portable sauna to help detox from all of the medications that the hospital had put me on. Slowly but surely, I’m getting all of that out of my system. SS: That’s so good for you to do! At this point in your journey, do pharmaceuticals play a part in your healing? JJ: None at all. SS: Do you use plant medicine at all? JL: I’m really the one who smokes (cannabis). I just feel that marijuana helps with everything: if you’re anxious, smoke. If you’re ADD, smoke. If you’re tired, smoke. It just makes everything better! JJ: I will say that CBD is great. Especially with my peripheral neuropathy, there are a lot of symptoms like Restless Legs Syndrome and electrical pulses in my legs that are so painful. CBD helps me with that. JL: I use CBD as well. My rotator cuff is messed up and I really hate doctors, so I have avoided treatment. So many of them seem to just want to put you on pills and suggest surgery. Instead, I’ve been using a topical CBD product that I rub into my shoulder and it gives me some relief, for sure. JW: Even if someone isn’t a big cannabis smoker, our opinion is that natural healing, plant medicine, holistic healing, alternative medicine and all of the treatments that you’re doing at Desert Moon- it all goes hand in hand. We’re all on the same team; we’re all for the betterment of self through wellness.

Desert Moon Wellness Janelle & Cory Ardizzone Help Facilitate Jenna's Healing
Jenny McCarthy is who first introduced Janelle and Cory Ardizzone to hyperbaric oxygen therapy. She and Cory go way back; his two main clients (doing executive protection and security) were Jenny McCarthy and Jenna Jameson. Consequently, Cory became very close with both of these clients; he lived with them both and provided 24/7 security and protection for them. Jenny’s son Evan has autism, and even though he’s now thriving at the age of 21, when he was a child he suffered with the effects of severe autism. Jenny has always been an amazing mom who was on top of Evan’s care and health journey. Around 2011, Jenny discovered the hyperbaric community and researched it extensively as a way to incorporate its healing benefits into Evan’s life. During that time, Janelle and Jenny had been acquainted and were working together on various projects. Jenny introduced Cory and Janelle to hyperbaric and all of its benefits. They got a crash course on hyperbaric and thrust themselves into the community with an eagerness to learn more. Initially, hyperbaric was mainly being presented in the autism world; there weren’t yet many examples of using hyperbaric for other purposes or conditions. Although Janelle didn’t initially fully understand the science behind hyperbaric, she was moved by the effects that it had on the autistic children who were using the therapy. They would emerge from the chamber with elated looks on their faces which proved that something life changing was happening. After a few times going into the chamber, previously non-verbal autistic kids were saying, “I love you” to their parents for the first time! It was incredible progress, particularly for parents of autistic kids who are drained and exhausted from parenting children with special needs. Rarely getting back any emotion or confirmation from their children that they are loved or appreciated can take a toll on parents and their relationships with their kids. Fast-forward to 2015, Cory
20
began touring with New Kids on the Block (Jenny’s husband Donnie Wahlberg is a member of the group) and Paula Abdul. Cory started putting all of the big artists on that tour into the chamber before performing. Paula’s managers were commenting on how she began performing like she did when she was back in her twenties again! The chamber made such a difference in their stamina, overall energy and level of performance. During that time, Janelle and Cory met the founder and CEO of the hyperbaric community OxyHealth, Samir Patel. The next month, Samir sent a hyperbaric chamber to their house. Janelle wasn’t sure how the chamber would apply to them personally, even though she had witnessed how it had benefited autistic kids and performance artists. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been around for many years and even used in hospitals, approved as treatment for only a handful of conditions that were deemed feasible by most insurance companies. Over the last 30 years, there have been more and more studies coming forward showing how hyperbaric oxygen therapy can benefit a plethora of conditions- not just autism and a handful of others. Janelle had suffered five miscarriages and had been going through a personal healing journey during this time. Doing inner spiritual and holistic work toward better health and wellness, she opted to try the hyperbaric chamber. She also stopped drinking alcohol and began incorporating cannabis into her wellness plan as a means to deal with unhealed trauma and work toward inner peace. Within a few months, Janelle and Cory were able to get off of all pharmaceutical drugs and prescriptions that they both felt they otherwise would have been on for a long time, opting for a more holistic route through cannabis and other alternative treatments. As a result, Janelle was able to become pregnant and carry her child full term without issue. Her experience with hyperbaric oxygen therapy was literally
BY jennifer walker
life-changing. Janelle’s experience with hyperbaric allowed her to have a healthy pregnancy and birth. They even named their business, Desert Moon Wellness, after their daughter, Makena Moon in tribute to the miracles that hyperbaric encouraged in their own lives. After the shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017, Cory and Janelle knew that they were going to open Desert Moon Wellness in order to help people heal. That was what pushed them to move forward and inspired them to work with others' healing journeys. Cory suffered a brain injury and that experience was extra motivation to get Desert Moon Wellness open. Cory and Janelle went to work for OxyHealth, the manufacturer of hyperbaric chambers, in order to get deeper into the hyperbaric association and their community of doctors. They learned a lot and made sure that they were equipped with the tools they needed to start Desert Moon Wellness. Janelle stayed with OxyHealth for over a year, while Cory still works for them as a Master Installer, traveling all over the country training doctors and practitioners on using hyperbaric. Desert Moon Wellness finally came to fruition after all of the effort and energy that Cory and Janelle put into their dream of helping others. Desert Moon Wellness’ mission is to provide what they know works to the community at large. Using tools that are synergistic and empowering people in their wellness journeys is what inspires their team to keep going. They are now creating a medical advisory board of experts in order to provide the best for their clients. Many more medical professionals are opening up to hyperbaric therapy and recommending it to their patients. Cultivating an environment where individuals can embark on a journey to heal, rejuvenate, and exude their utmost vitality at an exponential pace is their motivation. Curating wellness experiences while delivering top-tier assistance in aiding the body's healing and repair mechanisms on a cellular level enable individuals to recover swiftly, perform optimally, and thrive with clarity. Desert Moon Wellness provides cutting-edge modalities designed to swiftly enhance health from within, optimizing cellular health and reversing the biological aging process. New Year, True Change
The Psychedelic Route to Self-Reinvention
Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim psychedelics or plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote entertainment, safety and education.
It’s a new year, and as is the annual tradition, many of us entered it with the hopes of achieving or sticking to some fresh goals. We've all been there, pumped up with the "new year, new me" spirit, right? But let's face it: sticking to resolutions is tougher than it sounds. In fact, a 2018 study from the Statistic Brain Research Institute revealed that only 9% of resolution-makers actually see them through. Fast forward to a 2022 Forbes health survey, and that number dips even lower, with only 6% of Americans holding onto their resolutions after a full year. Failing at New Year's resolutions is so common, it's practically a cultural meme. There's even a "Ditch New Year's Resolutions Day" on January 17 and a "Quitter's Day" marking the second Friday in January. Talk about universal struggles! Interestingly enough, this resolution-making frenzy seems more intense in the U.S. than elsewhere – a study from PLoS One in Sweden showed only 12% to 14% of folks setting these annual goals. Why do so many of us start the year with a bang only to fizzle out so quickly? And is there any other option? Let’s explore these questions together, and find out if psychedelics can offer an alternative approach to self-reinvention that goes beyond the traditional New Year's resolution.
Why New Year's Resolutions Fail According to a Forbes Health/OnePoll survey
26
>>> BY JADEN RAE from October 2023, over 60% of people feel pressured to make resolutions. What's more, the majority aren't just setting one goal – 66.5% are aiming for three or more. But are these goals truly what we need, or are we just swept up in the tradition? Jennifer Kowalski, a licensed professional counselor at Thriveworks in Cheshire, CT, points out a crucial aspect: real change means getting uncomfortable, and that's a place most of us avoid.
real need for it. If your resolution is more about tradition than transformation, you might lack the necessary drive to see it through to fruition.
The Case for Reinvention Instead of making resolutions, what if we focused on making a shift in our identity or beliefs? It's the difference between the external (achieving a tangible goal) and the internal (transforming our mindset or self-perception). A list of 'to-dos' might seem appealing initially, but excitement and self-control can quickly fade, making what once seemed like an exciting journey into just another chore. Reinvention starts at our core and works its way to the outside, because no amount of work can fix the branches or leaves if the roots are rotting.
Using Psychedelics for Reinvention
"In order to change a behavior, you have to be uncomfortable... for a really long period of time,” she says. Kowalski notes that many resolutions fail because they're too grand, skipping the necessary small, incremental steps that pave the way to success. Essentially, we set the bar so high right off the bat that the goal becomes more daunting than doable. Moreover, timing is everything with goals. The tradition of New Year's resolutions can sometimes overshadow their real purpose. We set resolutions because "it's that time of the year," rather than setting goals born out of a genuine need or desire for change. Ideally, goals should stem from a period of change or a
As we explore alternatives to New Year's resolutions for personal reinvention, psychedelics offer a fascinating and potentially effective path. While the concept might sound a bit out there, the science behind it is solid and incredibly intriguing. Here's the deal: psychedelics aren't just about the colors and visions; they're actually doing some serious work under the hood—your brain's hood, that is. A study by BMC Neuroscience sheds light on something pretty mind-blowing. Psychedelics, it turns out, have a profound impact on neuroplasticity. Now, let's break that down. Neuroplasticity is basically your brain's ability to rewire itself, to change and adapt. And psychedelics? They're like the ultimate electricians for this job. They stir up neuronal excitation, which means they get your brain cells talking in new and different ways. They're also great at building new synapses – the bridges
that let thoughts and information zip across your brain. Plus, they spice up your dendritic arbor, the branches of your brain cells. To visualize how psychedelics impact the brain, let’s borrow an analogy from neuroscientist Mendel Kaelen, a postdoc at Imperial College. He likens the brain to a snow-covered hill, with thoughts and habits as sleds, gliding down. Over time, the sleds create well-worn grooves in the snow, ensuring that every sled that follows goes down the same few routes. Our habitual thoughts and behaviors carve out neural pathways in the same way. But, here’s where psychedelics come into play. Kaelen describes them as a fresh snowfall that covers the grooves, allowing sleds to create new paths. In this way, psychedelics have the ability to lay down new neural pathways that align us with who we want to be, rather than who we’ve always been. In this fresh snowfall analogy, psychedelics essentially reset the landscape of our mind. When our usual pathways are covered, we're no longer bound to the same old trails. Instead, we have the freedom to carve out new routes, explore different directions, and venture into uncharted territories of thought and behavior. This is the essence of personal reinvention – breaking free from the confines of our well-worn paths and discovering new aspects of ourselves. It’s about creating a mental environment where change isn’t just possible; it’s encouraged. With psychedelics, we're given a blank canvas, an opportunity to redefine our journey and align it more closely with our aspirations and true selves. It’s a chance to turn a fresh page, not just in the New Year, but in our ongoing story of personal growth and evolution.
Something To Think About In comparison to the often surface-level changes we aim for with New Year's resolutions, psychedelics offer a deeper, more intrinsic transformation. They don't just motivate you to chase a goal; they physically prime your brain to embrace and integrate these changes. It's like giving yourself a mental and emotional upgrade, setting the stage for genuine, lasting reinvention. So, while resolutions have their place, psychedelics could be a game-changer in your journey towards personal evolution. ROYAL TIPS >>>
A Functional Product Created for Safety
Royal Tips was born out of the pandemic. Back in 2020, when everyone was stuck at home, several of my friends and I would go to meet up at someone’s place just to get out of the house. As joints inevitably were passed around, there were conversations about the potential for getting each other sick. In addition, I noticed people were burning their lips and fingers trying to get every last puff out of their pre- or hand-rolled joints. I went home and started designing a solution that meshed form and function with fashion. I wanted to make sure Royal Tips had the perfect fit so I sought out a jeweler to assist in the design, not only aesthetically, but in terms of function as well. After the jewelry company signed an NDA, we put our heads together and got to work! The biggest challenge was getting the grip on the inside of the tips to fit the pre-roll filters just right. We wanted a secure grip so that the joint wouldn’t fall out, even if someone shook it like crazy, upside down. We also wanted to leave enough space so, when you have finished an entire pre-roll, there is enough of the filter sticking out to easily remove it. Working with a jeweler who had the resources of a micrometer and expert CAD designer really helped us accomplish these goals. We spent several months perfecting the design by having our friends and family try out our prototypes, and providing feedback until we were confident with the final product. Once we had the perfect fit and function, we applied for a patent. Quality should never be sacrificed for cost or speed to market. That’s why all Royal Tips are made of medical-grade aluminum, anodized, and engraved. Because of this, unlike other materials, Royal Tips are durable and will last forever. Or... at least until you lose it. They’re easy to clean too. Pop them in your dishwasher, or use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to sanitize it and clean the resin out from the inside. Wanting to appeal to a broad consumer, we designed our tips with both function and fashion. We currently offer tips in seven colors: Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Pink, Black, and Gray. We designed sublime packaging that certifies you will not be disappointed when you open the box and pull your tip out. We also create custom, one-of-a-kind tips for our cus-

tomers who desire to be unique while our white label program works with brands to create custom branded tips with matching packaging. Due to the versatility of aluminum, we have experimented with hydro dipping, engraving, and powder coating. Our Hydro Dipped Collection sold out in 48 hours! We plan to do more limited releases this year. Soon we'll be offering the option of a lanyard for your tips so you don’t have to worry about losing them. In addition, we are working on new designs (hint: glow-in-the-dark), new colors, and new collaborations for 2024! Royal Tips' users rave about our dependable quality, as the tips have a thick, even weight to them; like glass, but better - because it won’t break. Also, the cavity built into our tips gives the smoke a chance to cool down. This helps reduce irritation and discomfort caused by hot smoke and enhances the flavor of the cannabis while still supplying a powerful hit. If you’re a roll-your-own type and don’t use a filter, Royal Tips are a great way to smoke the entire joint without getting a speck of flower on your tongue because the tunnel inside the mouthpiece acts as a filter. Share and enjoy your pre-roll or hand roll without the worry of spreading bacteria or feeling the heat as you get down to that very last bit of your joint. No more burning your fingers, lips, or acrylic nails. No more smokey smell on your fingertips. No more flakes of King Louis on the tip of your tongue. Royal Tips truly elevates your smoking session. Lastly, I’d like to share a little piece of advice a lot of our customers have mentioned; you can place your tip in the freezer for about 30 minutes before use, and it produces a smoking experience similar to throwing ice in your bong. Enter the discount code VCM2024 for 20% off at www.royaltips.com. And if you follow us on Instagram @officialroyaltips and comment FREE SHIPPING, we'll send you a promo code for Free Shipping on your next order. We hope you enjoy smoking with our tips as much as we did designing them. Grab yours today so you too can "Smoke Like A King." For distribution, contact Rhino Distro at 702-850-0022.

Social Networking >>>
a 2024 Necessity for Your Business, Especially your Cannabis Business
Social media, a web based platform used to broadcast information. Social networking, a platform used to communicate with one another. Marketing and branding industry sources go deeper into describing the differences between the two:
THC app, is a networking app that directly connects businesses, ambassadors, influencers, advocates, and more. Founded by Krysta Jones in 2014, the app has grown by thousands and is recognized all over the country.
Social networking makes relationships more personal. It’s a two-way channel where you have an opportunity to build a rapport with your clients and prospects. These platforms are not about the amazing sales pitch you deliver to the audience; social networking is all about interactions and an open dialogue with users.
The app allows members to join a thriving online community now, network and build a portfolio to connect with vendors and others from all around the country, become educated on productivity, business, industry, community, and so much more. Though the app has a heavy focus on cannabis, it welcomes all industries to join.
Social media adds a technology component, as well as flexibility, when it comes to how a person consumes, shares, and collaborates with what is being presented. Both are very essential to businesses; however, in 2024, predictions in consumer spending show a shift in supporting small businesses versus large corporations. Unlike big corporations, a small business doesn’t have a million dollar marketing budget. The U.S Chamber of Commerce shares seven marketing trends that every small business needs to know about in 2024, and almost all of them involve social networking + social media: Generative AI-based marketing, minimalist marketing campaigns, personalized interactive content, integrated online and offline marketing efforts, social listening, animation marketing, and native advertising. In the cannabis industry, where social media platforms shadowban and suppress cannabis related content, the implementation of social networking has to be top priority. The Highly Connected App was created specifically for social networking with a high level focus on cannabis.
About The Highly Connected App: Founder and Team
30
The Highly Connected App, also known as
“I always had an act for getting my big network of people together. I used to host events and was known for always getting my friends for activities. As soon as I finished high school, I started working with Caregivers, cultivating and working at various grows across Colorado. Through that, I found that I had talent in performance development, process improvements, and quality assurance. I worked various jobs in cannabis, getting recruited across the community because I was known to perform at a high-level on the cultivation side and being able to decrease inputs and increase production. Sanja, started working as an elementary school teacher and through that she realized that she had a huge passion to help people heal people of sicknesses. She found a job at a dispensary which led her into space. We met at a location we were both working at, at the same time.” What’s the team's specialty?
Aside from founder and owner Krysta Jones, the app is supported by a team that consists of: Sanja Ganja: Director of Marketing + Operations Manager, Ruby Cardenas: Executive Assistant with a focus on Relationship Management and Sales, and Mario Flawless: App Developer + Tech and Digital Design.
A Sit Down with The Highly Connected App Founder, Krysta Jones Let’s start some insight into the team and what each person did prior to cannabis; ending with the piece of the story that got you all into the cannabis industry.
“Our speciality in the industry is creativity, and not just by marketing and branding but by figuring out creative ways to get shit done. Whether it's a billion dollar budget or a $100k budget, we enable our network to be successful and sustainable during the toughest times. This makes us able to lean up and/or scale when the opportunity comes.” Please take readers through the date that the app idea sparked the commitment to create it. “The app was born in 2014 and the idea came from all the processes and tools I had been using but wanting to have them all in one hub. I wanted to not only leverage the brand but to create a product that provided a full circle, and a smaller circle of the right network, not just any network. We wanted and still want to work with people who work like us: high performers, who are supportive, and have good work ethic. We facilitated a space where all of our network

could move and groove together, promote their resources, events and opportunities, and together perform at a higher level. The app is about leveraging the network when needed but also reaping the benefits of promotions that we provide by streamlining this process.” You all market the Highly Connected App as a networking platform more than a social platform; why? “The social aspect is not who we want to compete with, our network is what we feel is valuable and the people and diversity in it. We value our community and that is why we call it the THC Family.” What are 3 main things people should know about the benefits of The Highly Connected App? “There is no better value for online promo than $25 a month that offers direct notifications to a targeted audience of about 3,000. The app is the best way to communicate your needs to the community, to us, and to our in-house team so we can support you. The app is a marketing and networking tool; the more you use it and plug in your needs, the more you get out of it.” For the people like me, who aren’t crazy about apps and download only when we feel we absolutely must, why should we hit the app store right now to download the THC app? “Because it's not about the app, it's about utilizing the Highly Connected family as a promotional partner and engaging to support the network. It’s about reaping the promo service benefits we provide for the small fee, and to show your support and participation.” For those that use the app already, what can you tell them about what’s coming in 2024? “In 2024 we will be launching The Highly Connected App 2. It’s a faster version because we grew out of the current model. The 2.0 is super fast and will enhance ways to connect quicker, and sell events tickets directly from the app as well. We will also be extending our affiliate program and including rewards for engagement from plugging in, that we're super excited about as well.” For more information visit: https://app.thehighcountrygirls.com/ Veronica Castillo is known as the Traveling Cannabis Writer. She was a nomadic writer on the road covering all things cannabis/ hemp/ and overall plant medicines and recently came back home to Florida, making it her homebase once again. Her body of work can be found in multiple industry publications both digital and print where she provides cannabis industry and community insights from her 5 year journey around the country. She is a collaborator, connector, always seeking to bring to light the hidden gems in the plant space.

BEYOND RESOLUTIONS >>> 5 Habits For A Better 2024
As the New Year begins, it's customary to reflect on our lives and contemplate resolutions that promise transformation. However, rather than fleeting promises that often get left behind come spring, let's delve into the realm of habits—lifestyle choices that can help us transform our lives. Here are five habits that will not only enhance your 2024 but can also become integral parts of a happier and healthier way of life.
Glowing Skin, Radiant Life: Embrace a Skincare Routine Skincare is not merely a cosmetic pursuit, but an investment in our body’s largest organ. Rooted in the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, the profound link between overall health and the condition of our skin and face has been recognized for generations. As the new year commences, seize the opportunity to embark on a journey of self-care, immersing yourself in a mindful skincare routine. Explore the inclusion of beneficial practices such as dry brushing, alongside essential elements like moisturizers, face washes, and other skincare products. By embracing these thoughtful measures, you not only rejuvenate your skin but also help to establish a protective shield, nourishing the intricate relationship between skincare and holistic health.
Home as a Sanctuary: Personalize Your Space Transform your living space into a sanctuary that reflects your identity and brings you joy. Beyond the traditional New Year's resolutions to declutter, consider more profound changes. Experiment with lighting that complements your mood, rearrange furniture to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces, or find new pieces that bring you happiness. You can also introduce essential oil diffusers to make your space smell amazing, tailoring the scent to your preferences. Personalizing your space makes it a sanctuary that nurtures your well-being.
Financial Fortitude: Saving for Your Future
32
This year consider adopting a comprehensive approach to saving money. It’s important to consider what your financial goals are and construct a plan that can fit your budget. Meeting with a mortgage broker or financial advisor can help you chart out your future financial goals. Whether it's buying a home, planning for retirement, or establishing an emergency fund, these proactive steps go beyond a resolution, helping to create a financial foundation for years to come.
Hydration Overload: Ditch Sugary Beverages for Herbal Teas While many aim to cut back or quit sugary drinks in the New Year, let’s cultivate the habit of hydrating with alternatives, such as herbal teas. Not only do they provide a flavorful option, but they also offer various health benefits. From soothing chamomile to invigorating peppermint, herbal teas can contribute to better digestion, improved sleep, and a strengthened immune system. This habit is not just about eliminating an indulgence of sugar; it's about embracing a healthier, more nourishing choice.
Nourishing the Soul: Find a Hobby That Speaks to You Rather than just "trying something new" this year, let's commit to discovering a hobby that authentically nourishes our souls. Too often, we lose the creative spark we possessed as children—the eagerness to explore new realms of joy and uncover hidden talents. Whether it involves painting, gardening, writing, rekindling a connection with childhood toys, or venturing into new interests like Legos or model trains and cars, dedicate time to activities that genuinely bring you joy and fulfillment. Hobbies are not mere pastimes; they're a means for us to reconnect with ourselves and discover what we truly love and enjoy. Happy New Year! I hope your year is filled with love, laughter, and joy!

MPX Triangle Kush Breath Live Resin Sugar
I’ve been doubling down on this live resin sugar. The full spectrum body high is next to Godly. It has eased my anxiety and made socializing with earthlings and NHI much more pleasant. Or at least it’s made it do-able. So I’m stockpiling this as much as I can. I have never believed in a life coach until now. Best part is, MPX 1 gram concentrates are 3 for $50 at Health for Life Dispensary. But of course, only while supplies last so…. See you in line!

I am holding arguably the all-time greatest cartridge you will ever have the opportunity to vaporize. After you savor the superior flavor of unadulterated live resin in its purest form, this tingling warmth creeps up and flushes over your face. It dawns on you. You have never felt this great from a vape cart in your life. MPX’s North Town Jack will give you the competitive advantage you’ve been searching for. Pay close attention to MPX. MPX Two Wave Tony Live Resin Batter
I don’t know very much about Two Wave Tony, but I believe he is named after his father, Tony Clifton. It’s crazy that Andy Kaufman’s offensive, disgusting, repulsive, tasteless character had anything to do with MPX’s astounding, stunning, impressive, remarkable live resin known as Two Wave Tony. Emancipation is long overdue for TWTony. Don’t let Tony Clifton deter you from seeing what TWTony Live Resin Batter is all about. Nothing like a little reverse psychology as an attempt to drive consumers away from an MPX Live Resin Batter that has absolutely no chance of being a buster.
THC- 72.06% Terpinolene- 12.28mg/g Limonene- 8.69mg/g Caryophyllene- 8.67mg/g
Getting back to work after the holidaze is never easy. But thanks to our crew over at Sin City Cannabis, we have this month's go-to working folk’s bud. Twist up a few joints and have them prepared for your mid afternoon safety meetings. The delicate aroma will remind you to be grateful for what you have, and the buzz will resonate through your body, reminding you that you can make it through another day. Safety first, second and third!

This preroll from Circle S Farms is perfectly named, as it’s a chauffeur to a great time regardless of when you consume it. The mixture of limonene and linalool combine to ensure an enjoyable experience and a smooth smoke too. With nearly 25 percent THC accompanying the perfect mixture of terpenes, the high from this strain is very much present once smoked. I would recommend using this strain to play an interactive board game, as I did when I consumed the Chauffeur joint to play a session of Dungeons and Dragons. Bards forever!
A truly outstanding Gumbo that tastes like wild mangos and fresh papayas. However, be careful because this jungle dessert kicks like a high-flying karate kangaroo. Don’t go getting in the deep end with this beast as it might just hold you under. But the mouth on this gorgeous creature is delicious and seductive. It’s too difficult to resist. As deliciously sweet as the classic dessert that it’s named after without any of the following lactose intolerance issues that usually occur after people of Eastern European descent such as myself eat so many leches, the amber-tinted distillate of the Tres Leches cart by Sacred Oil undeniably lives up to the name of the brand that produces it. With a brand named Prospectors, it’s a brand with a design and unforgettable name that calls very much to my Southern heart. Although diamonds appear on the packaging, you’d be right to assume that the Gelato distillate comes from cannabis diamonds. And luckily for cannabis consumers who may be particular about certain terpenes, no single terpene is too substantial, so it’s a perfect hybrid. Also, it’s incredibly smooth as well, so don’t expect the coughing fits you’d receive from rougher carts.

SACRED Dosido Preroll
I’m going to avoid making any references to nuclear radioactivity or any events that occurred in Ukraine in April of 1986, so I’ll just say the Chernobyl preroll by Sacred is quite fire instead. A half-gram of flavor, the myrcene-dominant makeup of the Chernobyl flower guarantees it to be a great preroll for before bedtime. And although there’s pinene present in the flower, it’s nowhere near enough to keep you up all night.

If you’re searching for a light, personable high with a flower that smells wonderful and performs like a professional, then Dosido is the partner you’ve been looking for. BLUEBIRDS 3-Pack of 1 gram Prerolls 8” Bagel
A tube of Bluebirds in the hand is worth more than 2 grams of the Kush. That’s because each tube of Bluebirds contains 3 grams of stoney bush. What I’d like to know is how Deep Roots is able to stuff (3) 8” Bagels into a 4” x 3/4” plastic preroll tube. Amazing! They did! I toasted all 3 Bagels with some buddies and we sure got shmeared. GRASSROOTS Chem 91
A well known strain from a very talented team of cultivators with a very noticeable THC percentage, Chem 91 is the best of both worlds in terms of a hybrid. The limonene is enough to keep the creative juices flowing in your head while the myrcene certainly provides a nice relaxing mellow to the whole consumption experience. While it’s only Chem 91, it’s undeniably a 100 percent smash hit of a flower.

Budtender of the Month Las Vegas
Lauren noche budtender at Thrive Lauren Noche is as cool as they come. She's a tell-it-like-it-is budtender, who moves with style and grace. Her humor, compassion, and knowledge make her a favorite amongst locals and co-workers. You can catch Lauren at Thrive Cannabis Marketplace in Las Vegas, Nevada. What made you want to join the cannabis industry and what was your first industry job? Back when I used to live in Illinois, I was in school to be a pharmacy technician. I was really good in my class, but I didn’t like the feeling of handing people pharmaceutical drugs. When I moved to Vegas, I felt that being a budtender and being around cannabis would be a better choice for me instead of pills. If I’m going to be a legal drug dealer, budtending would be the job. What’s the most satisfying part of budtending? The most satisfying part is when I recommend a product to someone based on what they like or are looking for and they end up really liking it. It makes me so happy when a patient comes back the next week and tells me if they liked or disliked what I recommended. I love hearing people’s own experiences and learning the commonalities or the differences. What kind of challenges have you faced that you didn’t expect when you first joined the cannabis industry? I haven’t faced many challenges. One minor thing would be learning all the laws and regulations. I’ve realized in my 3-4 years working in the dispensary there’s a reason why we have to really stick to the rules. What’s your favorite topic you like to educate patients on? I love to educate patients on Rick Simpson Oil or RSO. A lot of patients have severe pain and it’s perfect for it. Ever since my tolerance for edibles sky rocketed I got sick of taking at least 15 edible gummies to get a little buzz.
38
When I figured out how many wonderful benefits RSO has, I started to bake with it and fell in love even more. If you had to give advice to a new budtender or someone looking to be a budtender, what would it be? My piece of advice would be to always read or educate yourself about cannabis. There’s always new information coming out about it the longer it's legalized and studied. As long as you have a passion for this industry, it shouldn’t be a problem at all. I think it’s actually fun to watch videos about terpenes or growing cannabis. Do you have any long term goals you’d like to accomplish in the cannabis industry? When I first moved to Vegas, my long-term goal was to learn how to grow cannabis and figure out how to breed and create my own strains. Being able to create a strain that’d be helpful for a specific medical condition would be pretty awesome. I still have a long way to go to get to that point, but if there’s a will, there’s a way . Do you have any favorite cannabis brands? When it comes to RSO, my favorite brand is Panna. If it’s flower, my favorite is The Grower Circle. Wax, my favorite is Medizin. What you been smoking on? I’ve been smoking on Rhythm lately, I recently picked up Bubba Fett and Zack’s Cake and the Zack’s Cake smells and tastes like vanilla ice cream, super sweet and the high is a nice mellow body high, not too heavy. It’s currently my favorite right now and I usually like heavy indicas.

austin teng budtender at THE DISPENSARY Austin, also known as Tengu is known for smoking only the best of the best, calling him a connoisseur would be an understatement. He's everyone's favorite and he's your go to budtender if you're in Reno. You can find him at The Dispensary in Reno, Nevada.
rather you be nice to them and make a connection rather than just put the highest testing stuff in front of them.
What made you want to join the cannabis industry and what was your first industry job? I wanted to join the industry probably like a lot of other people thinking about cheaper weed but also, because it seemed like a chill job.
How do you stay up to date and informed on new products? I think being informed just comes with time. My first year, I didn’t know much but after a while you pick things up. Also, going to company pop-ups and gatherings is a good way to talk to people in the industry
Have your views/thoughts about cannabis changed since becoming a budtender? After being in the industry for over 4 years, I’ve realized how much cannabis helps people in their everyday life. Also, with the amount of different people who come into the dispensary, it feels like the stigma is slowly going away about cannabis.
Do you have any long term goals you’d like to accomplish in the cannabis industry? Long terms goals ideally, would be being able to invest in a dispensary and create a new company but realistically it’s hard in Nevada so maybe when I get more money, haha.
What’s the most satisfying part of budtending? The most satisfying part about budtending has to be helping people with things like anxiety, sleep, pain, and general life happiness. Also, the connections you make with the people coming in. What kind of challenges have you faced that you didn’t expect when you first joined the cannabis industry? The challenge has to be realizing it’s almost like a retail/ customer service-oriented business and it’s not just about getting high. You need to be able to talk to people. If you had to give advice to a new budtender or someone looking to be a budtender, what would it be? Advice for new budtenders would be to have better customer service and generally be able to talk to people. I think knowing a lot about weed is nice but, people would
What’s your favorite way to consume? My favorite way to consume is definitely smoking out of one of my bongs! Do you have any favorite cannabis brands? My favorite brands are Airo Pro, MPX, GLP, Wyld, and Grower Circle. Do you prefer a high THC content or a really good terpene profile? I’d rather have something with 20mg of terpinolene than 30 percent THC but if it has both, I ain’t complaining.

Suggestions for Stoney Reading Freaks By Shwa Laytart
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
By Stephen King
Happy New Year, Reading Freaks! So how f*d-up did you get last month? Did you mix business and pleasure way too much? You know, like wine and women and weed and such? F*d-up enough to promise yourself some unrealistic new year’s resolutions? Maybe you’re going to hit the gym every Monday, or only smoke on Fridays… Or maybe you promise yourself you’re going to write that novel that’s been kicking around your brain-barn, trying to escape to the blank page. Well, if the latter is your goal, then I’m here to help. Well, to be honest, I’m here to suggest…. Stephen King is here to help. On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is, in my stoney opinion, one of the best writing guides you can read. Which no one should be surprised by because Stephen King is a thoroughbred in a mob of the greatest writers that our era has produced. Some say the most prolific. Others say he’s the most progressive. Whatever you think, no one can deny, King has polished the craft of writing to a level we can all reflect from. If you’re looking for a DIY book on how to be a serious writer, Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft should be at the top of your list. Quality writing is a craft. Much like graffiti, hacking, influencing, and lovemaking. Anyone can do it, but to be good you need practice. To be great, you need to understand what you’re doing and why. In On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, King invites us into his writing studio and shares stories about what guides him during his writing process. An intimate experience that can only be achieved by reading the book or sitting in on a presentation by King himself. He not only gives us tools in the art of constructing stories, King also gives actual accounts of how he achieves inspiration. We discover where his mind frame was when he was writing the stories that have captivated and transfixed us as readers, and movie goers. Like when he was just starting out and he and his wife had little to no money. A time when he was a janitor at a highschool. A job that sparked the concept for Carrie. How he was drinking beer all day when he wrote The Shining. Or drinking beer all day and blowing through lines of cocaine while writing The Tommyknockers. King opens the door for us to see the struggle and process while polishing his craft of writing stories. Few writers start off rich and even fewer start off talented. We all start off learning and practicing. King gets real with us so, as
42
writers, we know that we’re not alone. King reaches through time to speak with each writer who reads this book, on a personal level. King talks directly to you. King guides you. King is your teacher, a coach who motivates you to be better at your sport; encouraging you to be a better writer. Aside from the personal stories and accounts, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is a top shelf masterclass on the concept of storytelling. Storytelling is an art that many dabble in without confidence, but few storytellers can operate a tale with strategic, unhinged exhilaration, and clockwork timing, with the ability to ride the current like an experienced hang glider. To do this, you need to be polished. To be polished you need tools, guidance and practice. Lots of practice. King started submitting horror stories to magazines when he was a teenager. As he mentions, the stack of rejection letters was thick. But his love for storytelling was even bigger. The most important thing a writer needs is passion. A serious passion for the craft. If you feel, deep in your soul, that you have a story to tell, in fact, you have multiple stories to tell but you want to make sure you tell your tales in the most readable, exciting, and cohesive way, then I highly suggest you spark up and kick back with a copy of On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by the guru Stephen King. This book is definitely worth Reading Lit! You can pick up a copy of On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft at Avantpop Bookstore in Las Vegas or at bookshop.org/shop/avantpop

TRAVIS WAGONER From Hemp to Fungi
Meet Travis Wagoner, a hemp farmer and business owner in southwest Virginia. From a young age, Travis Wagoner loved exploring the outdoors and getting his hands dirty. He has always had a deep appreciation and sense of wonder regarding the natural resources of Virginia. From trout fishing in the New River Valley to picking blueberries with his grandmother, he embraced and connected with all things outdoors. In fact, being cooped up indoors proved to be increasingly difficult for Travis, who has ADHD, to manage as he got older. His teenage years were tumultuous to say the least. He bounced around from school to school after being expelled for fighting and drug use but ultimately graduated with his high school diploma in 2004. Travis tried cannabis in high school and was amazed by its effects to help calm his anxiety and manage his ADHD. Moreover, he was adamantly against the use of traditional pharmaceuticals, after living through the trauma of his father becoming addicted to opioids following a back injury. He knew deep down that he wanted to help people and alternative plant medicine might one day become an option. Following high school, Travis worked in masonry performing manual labor before deciding to turn things around and enrolled in New River Community College in 2008. Not having a driver’s license, Travis walked to and from campus every day. After attending classes, he walked straight to work at the local Domino’s to support himself financially through community college. In 2012, Travis was accepted into Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences program which was a breakthrough moment for him as a person. Committed to turning things around for himself, Travis fully embraced any and all opportunities offered during his time at Virginia Tech. He excelled academically and also worked as an intern at the Hahn Horticulture Gardens at Virginia Tech. Travis was selected to study agriculture abroad in Spain and ultimately graduated with honors from Virginia Tech in 2014. Following graduation, Travis put his horticulture education to work as a greenhouse manager before being promoted to assistant grower at Redson Farms, a commercial agriculture company. During his time at the greenhouse, Travis gained invaluable knowledge regarding the ins and outs of the horticulture industry. His education, passion for the field of horticulture, and post-bac experiences paved the way for what was to come. In December of 2018, following the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which established a regulatory market for the cultivation of hemp (a strain of cannabis), Travis was contacted by a recruiter regarding a potential opportunity in establishing a cannabis company in southwest Virginia. He was hand selected to oversee the transition of a 48,000 square feet former textile mill, located in Hillsville, VA, into a vertically integrated cannabis facility which would eventually
48
become the home of Virginia Cultivars, LLC. The mission of Virginia Cultivars was to cultivate hemp and transform it from a raw commodity into finished product. As an advocate for supporting local and business owners, Travis openly communicated with the town regarding his business plans in order to gain trust from the local citizens as their support would ultimately be paramount to the success of the business model lasting long-term. As such, he partnered with local farmers and landowners within the region to provide quality genetic seed stocks. In 2019, Virginia Cultivars raised its first crop of mother plants and also harvested its first crop of finished hemp. However, shortly thereafter in Fall of 2019, Virginia policymakers enacted laws prohibiting the extraction of hemp products intended for human consumption, thus significantly limiting access to the cannabis market in Virginia before the market was ever even established. These laws forced Virginia Cultivars and other farmers to seek hemp processors outside of the state of Virginia. Fear in the market gave birth to out-of-state networking and product development under the brand Anointed Hemp Oil but doing business under Virginia Cultivars which focused on the production of CBD and CBG infused honey, tinctures, and topicals. Hemp was planted both indoors and outdoors and products yielded were marketed as smokable flowers (fun fact: the trim was used for prerolls). In 2020, Virginia passed legislation for processing hemp for human consumption. Virginia Cultivars took advantage of this and expanded their capabilities to include the development of hemp derived THC molecules in the form of Delta 8, Delta 9, and Delta 10, among others. They began manufacturing an assortment of edible cannabinoids, such as cakes, cookies, hard candies, gummies, and chocolate under the Virginia Cultivars brand, Anointed Hemp Oil (CBD), Wagoner Bros., Wagoner & Co, and Anointed Cannabis Company. As a firm believer in helping others and collaborating, Travis advised other business owners on developing their own edible products. In addition to edible products, Virginia Cultivars were also well-known suppliers of both smokeable and vaporizable cannabinoids through various forms of concentrates and fresh flowers. In 2021, the State of Virginia passed SB 903, which restricted CBD,
CBG, CBC, CBN, and THC delta 9 products to be less than 0.3% by volume. The passing of this legislature forced Virginia Cultivars to not only rebrand, but also redesign a large majority of the products they manufactured. Delta 8 is a less powerful cannabinoid but still offers many of the benefits without an intense psychoactive experience. Educating the consumer became key as total milligrams and concentration limited strength capacity. In July of 2022, the state enacted further restrictions to the hemp industry, this time banning THC, including Delta 8 and Delta 9. This was a devastating blow to the hemp industry in Virginia and ultimately to Virginia Cultivars.Travis was yet again, sent back to the drawing board to rebrand his business. He started researching alternatives to cannabis that could be manufactured using his existing infrastructure. During his research, he stumbled across the mushroom which was the inspiration for Alice and Wonderland: amanita. In February of 2023, Travis was invited out to Colorado to meet with a small group of individuals exploring potential opportunities in the realm of legal mushrooms, including amanita. While in Colorado, Travis was able to pass out samples of some of his soon to be regulated products to the members of the group. With that came positive feedback and curiosity about his products. Networking in Colorado enabled a strong working relationship to be established between Travis and the primary distributor of raw amanita material. While waiting for the raw material to arrive from his collaborator, he procured raw amanita from another source and began formulating a
method of extraction based on his previous experience with cannabis and researching available literature. Ultimately, Travis would develop an extraction method that yielded 3X concentrated amanita material which was sent out for quality analysis testing (via HPLC). After confirming the product was clean with certificates of analysis, amanita extract was formulated into gummies (grape, watermelon, raspberry) and chocolate bars (milk, white, dark). Market testing thus far has been extremely successful and this is just the beginning for the new brand. Travis is hopeful that the laws in Virginia regarding hemp cultivation will eventually loosen up. In the meantime, Travis is happy to continue exploring the therapeutic benefits of amanita.

>>> in the Future of Cannabis Law and Science vs. Marketing
2023 has been exciting for our favorite plant, and the year’s chaotic crescendo now calls us to reflect. Congress this year passed a new version of the Farm Bill, built on the 2018 bill that legalized hemp. Before 2024 charges in and the implications of this play out, it is important to step back and arm ourselves with knowledge of what is really at play here.
more than .3% THC. In terms of flower and concentrates, that’s not much. With edibles though, 15mg THC out of a gummy weighing 600 mg comes out to less than .3%, which meets legal criteria but still contains 15 mg of the same THC you could find in a dispensary edible. The phrases “any part of that plant” and “all derivatives” technically legalize any cannabinoid, in no set limit, that exists in the hemp plant. However, there is only one cannabinoid expressly addressed here: Delta 9. The ‘real’ THC. Besides Delta 9 no other part of the plant is specifically legalized or limited.
The messy overlap between marketing, legality, and science seems confusing, but hear me out. Let’s clarify key elements of the Farm Bill to see how this legislation features in the cannabis industry, its future, and our role in all that. Before diving into the juicy legality, there are a few terms to clarify. In science and law, words (really) matter—in marketing, not so much. Understanding the basics serves as a useful guide and reference amidst complexity. People make things complicated, but the law and science behind this isn’t. Firstly, the law defines ‘Hemp’ by its scientific name, Cannabis Sativa L., which is legally not ‘cannabis’. What? Back up. So in 1753 Carolus Linnaeus added his initials for being the first to officially name the plant and classify the genus Cannabis. Sativa is a species of Cannabis. No, sativa does not mean ”energetic”, that’s marketing. Sativa has slender leaves and low THC. The other species Indica, has wider leaves and high THC. Both species contain THC and CBD just in different ratios. In reality, the two have been bred and hybridized so much that the formal distinction barely exists, but it matters to understand why legally, Cannabis Sativa is Hemp. What is Delta 9 THC? Delta 9 is regular THC, the most abundant in cannabis. There are other THC forms, but Delta 9 is the molecule responsible for the famous and controversial psychoactive high. Bottom line: Delta 9 is “the real thing”. Pay attention to that. The key of the 2018 Farm Bill is The Hemp Farming Act. This amended the Controlled

Substance Act’s Schedule I THC classification by including “except for tetrahydrocannabinols in hemp [as defined]”. Defined as: “The term ‘hemp’ means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.” So we all know hemp doesn’t deserve a spot next to heroin in our nation’s hierarchy of threatening substances, but they finally said so, too! And that’s what makes this so important. To be clear, any plant with greater than .3% THC is still “cannabis” and still Schedule I; regardless, this act effectively liberates hemp from that classification. No longer being controlled means hemp can freely cross state lines and be sold in retail markets nationwide. The Hemp Act does allow states to modify and enact their own hemp policies. Most states followed the Federal guidelines, while some like Idaho and Utah chose to lower the limit to 0% or .1% THC, respectively. ‘On a dry weight basis’ means that THC percentage is calculated out of the total weight of the product. So a one gram nug can have no
As with any rule, there is what’s allowed and what’s not allowed. Because of Delta 9’s restrictions, companies have rushed to increase potency and milligrams through experimental new cannabinoids, which can have unintended consequences. Many use “hemp-derived” and “any part of the plant” as a weak legal umbrella to muddle the market with often untested products that have yet to be prohibited. While there are well-intentioned companies, this gray area has created degrees of mistrust and confusion. In response to these concerns as well as quickly changing market offerings, states are rolling out additional regulatory legislation and will continue to do so as this plays out. Knowing the law and science at play here, we can start to see through all this noise. Ultimately, the Hemp Act’s purpose is to encourage cultivation and capitalize on the massive potential and benefits of hemp. There is no reason for such a versatile and powerful plant to be classified Schedule I, so that’s a big win. We also see the door opening for legalization of cannabis at the Federal level, inviting us in the industry and as consumers to consider what that would look like in reality—or how we may want it to.

Do you have a question about cannabis and wellness? We have the answers. Email your questions to ask.sarah.vcm@gmail.com.
Hi Sarah, I keep hearing that mangos can enhance the effects of cannabis. Is this true? I use cannabis to manage pain and it would be amazing if mangos could help elevate the effects. It’s getting expensive and I’d love to be able to make it work better for me. Thanks in advance! Samantha Hi Samantha, Thank you so much for writing in. I personally love using food to enhance the effects of my cannabis products. Various foods and herbs have terpenes, just like cannabis does. When we eat foods that are rich in the terpenes found in our favorite strains prior to consuming cannabis, anecdotal evidence has found it can enhance the effects of our cannabis. Mangos are great for strains that are high in myrcene, however terpenes are found in hundreds of other foods and herbs. For example, you can use black pepper to elevate your favorite caryophyllene strain, or a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade to boost the effects of limonene. The possibilities are truly endless. Foods and plants alike have so many medicinal properties that can be harnessed in the same ways as cannabis, and by eating terpene rich foods we can elevate the effects of our favorite cannabis products. Additionally, Vegas Cannabis has an article in the June 2023 issue (found online), “Enhancing Your Cannabis Experience”, that explains more in-depth the many foods that can be harnessed for this purpose. I hope you enjoy pairing foods with cannabis and the elevated effects it can deliver.

Ask Sarah...
Hi Sarah, Sometimes I like to smoke after work to relax. The other night, I smoked a bit too much and felt so uncomfortable. It just wasn’t the mellow high I was after and was too much. When I went to Google, it basically said wait it out and I’ll be finewhich I did. However, I was wondering if there is anything I can do when this happens to reduce the high feeling faster, or do I really just have to wait it out?
Sincerely, Nighttime Toker Hi Nighttime Toker, Thank you so much for writing in. Despite most Google results telling you the only remedy is time, you can absolutely take some steps that can help reduce the uncomfortable euphoria. When you get too high from THC, try to smoke some CBD. Research has found CBD can help to reduce the effects felt from ingesting too much THC, such as anxiety. Secondly, make sure to stay hydrated and find something to distract you while the CBD starts to help. You can listen to music or put on your favorite show. Smokable CBD has a rapid onset, with the effects felt in 5 to 10 minutes after inhalation. Take a few puffs of CBD, drink some water, and repeat until the euphoria begins to dissipate. For future smoke sessions, you can also opt for strains that are lower in THC for a more mellow euphoric experience. I hope this helps if you ever find yourself ingesting too much THC again.
Hi Sarah, Thanks so much for doing this! I’m a medical patient in northern Nevada and use cannabis for my joint pain from arthritis. With winter, it has been flaring and I’ve been needing much more to get through. I typically smoke and take edibles or RSO. Whenever I mention this to people working in the industry, they suggest a tolerance break. I have tried once before and was in so much pain, and then I needed the same amount when I came back to it. And once again, winter came, and I needed more. My question is, why do I need so much more in winter and why do tolerance breaks not affect how much I need? I hope you can help. Thanks Sarah! Sincerely, Jackie Dear Jackie, Thank you so much for writing in. I also have experience with needing more cannabis than the average user and my needs fluctuating. I
understand this can be confusing as well as frustrating, and I am happy to help explain why this is for some cannabis patients. When we have heightened pain or symptoms, for example in winter with damp and cold weather, we need additional cannabinoids to manage the heightened symptoms. Without getting too scientific, when the body has continued soft tissue injury, like with arthritis, MS, and other conditions, the body produces additional cannabinoid receptors. This then requires patients to need more cannabinoids to manage their symptoms. This can happen in numerous instances, including when the cold and damp weather is causing additional inflammation in the body with arthritis. It has nothing to do with tolerance, and everything to do with science. Tolerance breaks are not a proven concept, nor do I believe they are for patients. While a recreational user may experience greater euphoria when returning to cannabis temporarily, a medical patient will continuously need the same amount upon returning. This is because the ailments and symptoms the cannabis is helping to manage does not change. A tolerance break for patients only brings days of high symptoms, and frustration upon returning. While a tolerance break cannot help unfortunately, I do want to suggest trying various routes of administration, especially during times of high pain. Try adding a topical, concentrate, or CBD suppository to your routine along with the RSO and flower to help manage the additional pain you are experiencing during winter. You can also opt for flower or concentrates with a higher terpene percentage than you typically use. For example, if your favorite strain has 8mg of caryophyllene on average, try to find an option that has a higher milligram content. This may make the flower or concentrate work a bit better for you in times of high pain and in turn have you require a bit less product. I hope you find relief this winter.

SIP, NIBBLE & TRIP A Step-By-Step Guide To Making Your Own Psilocybin Capsules >>> BY JADEN RAE *Author’s Disclaimer: We do not encourage illegal activity, nor the sale or trade of illegal substances. Check with and adhere to your local laws. We do not claim plant medicine to be a substitute for professional medical care. Always consult with your doctor. The goal of this article is to promote safety and education.
Whether you’re someone who has considered, but not yet delved into, the world of magic mushrooms, or you’re a seasoned psychonaut looking to get away from the dirt flavor of raw mushrooms, you may have given some thought to crafting your own psilocybin capsules. It's a game changer for sure. Gone are the days of guessing doses or dealing with the not-so-pleasant taste. In this guide, we're going to walk you through the simple, step-bystep process of making your own psilocybin capsules and the benefits that capsules have over other methods of consuming magic mushrooms.
Why Capsules?
Let's dive into why psilocybin capsules are a common favorite among magic mushroom enthusiasts. They offer some practical perks that set them apart from other methods: • Discretion is Key: Capsules offer a discreet way to carry and consume psilocybin. They're unassuming and blend right into a regular supplement routine, keeping your psychedelic journey private. • DIY Simplicity: Crafting your own capsules is straightforward and hassle-free. It's a bit like a mini science project, minus the complicated equations. • Dosage Control: With capsules, you get the power to precisely measure your psilocybin intake. This precision is especially crucial for those keen on consistent effects or exploring microdosing. • Longer Shelf Life: Properly stored, these capsules can last quite a while, making them a reliable choice for long-term use. • Microdosing Friendly: If microdosing is your thing, capsules are a game-changer. They eliminate the need for constant measuring and make sticking to a microdosing regimen a breeze. • Taste and Texture-Free: For anyone not keen on the earthy taste and texture of raw mushrooms, capsules are a welcome alternative. They make the experience as simple as swallowing a vitamin. • Portability for the Win: Compact and convenient, capsules are perfect for on-the-go lifestyles. In essence, psilocybin capsules bring together convenience, subtlety, and precision, making them a solid choice for both seasoned users and newcomers to the world of psychedelics.
A Word On Safe Sourcing
When it comes to creating your own psilocybin capsules, the golden rule is safety. Here's the lowdown on sourcing safely: Go Whole, Not Pre-Ground: Always aim to source whole mushrooms rather than pre-ground in capsules. This way, you can be sure you're getting just mushrooms and nothing more. When you make your own capsules with whole mushrooms, you have the clarity and confidence that you're dealing with pure psilocybin, without any unwanted surprises.
How To Make Your Own Psilocybin Capsules Step By Step
54
To make capsules, you’ll need a milligram scale, coffee grinder, empty capsules, a micro-scoop, a tamper and mushrooms. Grind the mushrooms to a powder consistency.
Option 1: Fill one pill at a time. 1. Our first step is to tare (or “zero out”) out the scale while an empty capsule is on the scale. We want to measure the weight of the mushrooms, not the capsule itself. Place a new empty capsule, top and bottom, onto the scale and push the “tare” button to reset the scale back to zero.
2. Set aside the scale for now (but keep it on) and use the micro scoop to scoop ground mushrooms into the larger end of the empty capsule. I like doing this on a clean sheet of paper - to keep the mushroom powder contained and clean.
3. Use the tamper tool to tamp down the mushrooms, and to push more ground mushrooms into the capsule.
4. Make sure that the scale is on the “tare” weight still. Place the filled capsule on the scale and note the weight. Adjust with more or less ground mushroom based on your desired dosage.
5. Once you have your desired weight, snap the capsule closed. You’ll feel a satisfying “click.”
Option 2: Use a capsule filling machine. I like using a capsule filling machine. It’s less than $25 and you can find it at most health food stores. For my Vegas locals, Herbally Grounded shop is where I purchased mine. Make sure you match the machine size to the correct capsule size!
7. To use a capsule filling machine, follow the instructions that came with the box. You’ll insert the smaller end into the lid, and the larger end into the base.
14. Now your capsules are done!
8. Spoon ground mushrooms onto the base.
15. But first, let’s weigh them. Tare out the scale with an empty capsule.
9. Use the spreader card to spread and push the ground mushrooms into the capsule cavity.
10. Grab the tamper lid.
11. …and tamp down the ground mushrooms to make room for more.
12. Spoon more ground mushrooms into the capsule cavity and use the spreader card again to spread and push down the mushrooms. Repeat these steps as many times as you need based on your dosage. Now grab the lid tray.
16. Now grab a filled capsule and weigh to double check the dosage of each capsule.
17. The last step is to snap the capsule closed to secure it.
18. Keep your capsules in a dry, dark place away from heat, humidity, and curious hands. Adding a desiccant pack helps keep moisture out. Whole mushrooms last longer than ground, but both will be good for several months, as long as you store them correctly. 19. And there you have it! With these steps, you'll be all set to create your own psilocybin capsules, perfectly dosed for your needs. Whether it's for microdosing or just for convenience, these capsules are a fantastic way to manage and enjoy your psychedelic experiences.
Looking To Start Your Own Microdosing Journey? 13. Turn it over and place on top of the base. Push down until you hear a “click.”

It helps to find a buddy to motivate and encourage you along the way. Embrace the positive changes but also prepare to navigate potential obstacles, especially in the areas of love life and health. stress as you may be feeling the pressure of new year goals for 2024 all at once. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you feel coworkers and superiors are picking on you or piling the workload too high. With courage and perseverance, you’ll be able to overcome most obstacles and achieve success. Towards the end of January, you will be presented with new opportunities for growth and personal development, so keep an open mind and stay positive along the way! LEO (JULY 22 – AUGUST 22) Get ready for a dynamic and transformative start to the new year Leo! With Mars in Sagittarius at the beginning of the month, you may feel a strong desire to take risks and step out of your comfort zone. Make sure to weigh the consequences before making any impulsive decisions and restrain explosive behavior. New opportunities will arise in your professional life, so stay open and flexible. With Mercury stationing direct in Sagittarius on the 1st, your negotiating and debate skills are at an all time high. You are able to talk your way out of (or into) anything and there’s no problem that you can’t solve! So, if you’ve been avoiding a situation, now is the time to address it for the best chance at a positive outcome. VIRGO (AUG 22 – SEPT 22) As the new year begins, you will feel a strong pull to reevaluate goals and make practical plans for the future. It is likely that you experience a positive shift in academic or competitive pursuits, overcoming initial hurdles and achieving desired outcomes through persistence and dedicated effort. Be aware of challenges in personal relationships that require patience and compromise. Remember, harmony requires effort on both sides of a relationship. Don’t avoid communication and talk through annoyances. Although you are feeling very motivated and successful, you have lower energy than usual this month. It is important for you to prioritize self-care and balance your workload to avoid burnout. LIBRA (SEP 22 – OCT 22) This month you will experience a lot of intense emotions. Mood swings and confusion may make it difficult for you to make decisions about your future. It's important not to rush into any major choices and to focus on selfcare instead. Spending time with loved ones and seeking peace in nature can provide a much needed sense of balance. However, be cautious of old issues resurfacing in your relationships. It's crucial to control your emotions and try not to take them too seriously! Remember to have empathy towards those around you, or conflicts may arise. It’s important to approach January with a sense of optimism and readiness to navigate the opportunities and obstacles ahead.
SCORPIO (OCT 22 – NOV 21) Enjoy a boost in motivation and confidence this month, Scorpio! This will help you make rational decisions in both your personal and professional lives. You have a calmer than usual demeanor and it will be difficult to upset you. However, you may face some post holiday exhaustion, so it's important for you to rest and take care of your health. Listen to your body and pay attention to any issues that arise before they get worse. Though you are a master at transformation, it's important for you to stay true to yourself and not get caught up in other people's resolutions or lifestyle changes. As long as you stay very intentional with your energy and focus, you will thrive! SAGITTARIUS (NOV 21 – DEC 21) This month, you will have to face unresolved issues and confront past relationships. This may cause old feelings to resurface. It's important to control your impulses and emotions this month in order to avoid conflicts and focus on moving forward. Let the past be the past. Venus in Sagittarius up until the 23rd will bring a heightened level of sexual energy, which can be difficult for partners to keep up with and may lead to tension. There will also be challenges staying focused and controlling your impulses, causing potential conflicts at work or school. Stay grounded and focus on the present moment to avoid getting carried away with short term pleasures and distractions that can lead you astray from your values. CAPRICORN (DEC 21 – JAN 20) The alignment of planets is in your favor with the Sun, Mars, Mercury, and Venus in Capricorn throughout the month. Your determination leads to progress in both personal and professional areas of your life. Things just feel right and success comes naturally. Trust your intuition and utilize your strengths to achieve your goals. Your strong leadership skills will help not only you but your team as well, whether that be at work or within your family. Don’t forget to celebrate! Your season will be gone before you know it if all you’re focused on is your achievements. People will still respect you if you take things a little less seriously. AQUARIUS (JAN 20 – FEB 18) This month brings a surge of new energy and a strong drive to move forward! The Sun's entry into Aquarius on January 20th, accompanied by the presence of Pluto, sets the stage for a powerful and impactful start to the year. Despite typically coming across as a bit wishy washy in the past, you excel at making decisions for yourself. You are
able to approach situations with a calm and balanced mindset, not allowing your thoughts to control you. This newfound clarity will also bring a positive shift in work-life balance, giving you more time for your family and friends. It’s easier to follow through on promises without your mind pulling you in so many directions, which helps build trust with your loved ones. PISCES (FEB 18 – MAR 19) You are feeling aligned and loved after the holidays. The new year brings a strong drive for success, with an abundance of creative energy and innovative ideas. Share your thoughts with your boss and bask in the recognition that you deserve. However, be mindful of neglecting your relationships, as your partner or friends may become resentful of how preoccupied you are. They aren’t used to you focusing on yourself and have come to rely on your unwavering support. Don’t forget to show that you appreciate them by spending quality time together. Your intuition and self control is strong thanks to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces all month so make the most of it!

CBD Infused Chicken Curry & Turmeric Iced/Hot Latte Hello Everyone and Happy New Year! Hope y'all had a beautiful Christmas and had a chance to make and enjoy the last recipes. Moving into 2024, we are trying to incorporate some better eating & drinking habits into our lives and Angel really wanted to do something that held some anti-inflammatory properties, so what better way then with some turmeric as our main ingredient. You normally find turmeric in Indian, Southeast Asia, Middle Eastern, and some African Cuisine. We came to an agreement that we both love a delicious aromatic curry and we especially love a good cozy soothing latte, hot or cold. Here are two tasty recipes that we believe can make your mind and body feel amazing. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory (antioxidant) and immune-strengthening. It can help with poor digestion, abdominal pain, osteoarthritis, sleep, high cholesterol, depression, itching, and a number of other things including promoting hair growth. Mixed with some CBD which is also known for its anti-inflammatory and healthy benefits such as possible relief from pain and anxiety, epilepsy and depression while promoting a clear mind and gut health. So please enjoy making these and enjoying all of the benefits it may have for your family and friends. We will start sharing reviews on this page in the February issue. If you have tips or suggestions or just want to share your thoughts on these recipes we would love to hear your feedback in our DM. We love you and we can't wait to hear from those of you that make them. Please tag us @cookingforaqueen on Instagram. We will repost them to our page! Happy New Year and as always, Bon Appetit!

Cooking with Cannabushi >>> An Infusion Series with chef chris rodarte It's a New Year and a new age of infusion! That's right, the double whammy of magic and medicine. Blending the two together for a flight through time and space that leaves you locked in place. I spoke with a friend of mine Mary Young, patented inventor of The Butter Brewer for this recipe. We have got something really cool for you using The Butter Brewer™️. Now, let's get to it so you can all lose your mind or Find It…
Space Cakes Ingredients:
1 cup infused butter melted, 2 sticks 4 grams of dried mushrooms 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar 3 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 large eggs 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup cocoa 1/2 teaspoon salt *Coffee Grinder Needed*
INSTRUCTIONS:
Start by using your coffee grinder to turn your magical friends into a powder. Place to the side. With the mixing paddle removed, spray the pot lightly with a baking spray. Preheat Butter Brewer to 300°. In a large mixing bowl whisk butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add in the eggs one at a time and mix after adding each egg. Add in flour, cocoa, and salt and stir to combine. This is the moment that you should add some “magic” mushrooms to the party! Place batter into the pot, spread evenly and smooth the top, or use a toothpick to create a swirl pattern. The batter is thick, so press it down with the spatula and slowly spread it to the sides for the best result. Bake for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out without wet batter but can have chocolate on it. Don't over bake until the toothpick comes out clean or the brownies will be dry. Enjoy! I hope you all enjoyed this recipe as I have enjoyed creating it for you! Make sure you guys grab a Butter Brewer™️ for yourself and don't forget to use my code: ‘CannaBushi’ at checkout!
