MOONLIGHTING WITH KURUPT

he scene is the grand opening of Reef Dispensary’s gigantic new North Las Vegas storefront, housed in a renovated 7500 square foot supermarket space. The morning kicks off with a ribbon cutting ceremony with participation from City Councilman Richard Cherchio and hometown hip-hop hero Dizzy Wright.

Later in the afternoon, actress Hannah Kat Jones is being photographed in front of a step and repeat, while cannabis activist Alexis Fawx is seen bouncing around the room. The place is jumping, with a reported 2150 customers seen that day, according to ReefDispensary.com But the main event is an appearance from legendary Dogg Pound rapper Kurupt Young Gotti, who is on site at Reef to promote his brand, The Real Kurupt’s Moonrocks. The seasoned emcee is in a jovial mood, posing for selfies with longtime fans, even treating the audience to an impromptu live performance of some of his biggest hits, such as “We Can Freak It” and “It Ain’t No Fun”.

The Real Kurupt’s Moonrock line has taken the industry by storm, as it is a unique product made of cannabis flower that is dipped in extracted THC oil, and then sprinkled with keef, a powdery substance made of resinous trichomes from the flower. The end result is an incredibly potent concoction that literally looks like the lunar rubble kicked around by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. It takes you to the moon, too.

“When we came up with this, we wanted something different. We gave it the million-dollar title and name with the Kurupt stamp on it, because we were the ones that found it first,” Kurupt explains.

The brand first gained notoriety in the California medical market, quickly spreading to Kurupt’s celebrity friends before making its way to Las Vegas. It has been so popular that knockoffs have been found on the black market, outside of legitimate dispensaries like Reef, hence “The Real…” designation added to its name.

“We’re the originals. When you have a brand and you’re number one, a lot of people are going to mimic you. After Kurupt, everybody had a ‘moonrock’. So I had to separate mine from everybody else. I had to let them know that this is the Real Kurupt Moonrock. You’ve even got people with a fake ‘Kurupt Moonrock’ out there,” the rapper laments. “But then again, I learned from Dr. Dre that if nobody is talking about you, then you ain’t doing anything. So I can’t get mad at the game; I reinvent all the time.”

That reinvention comes in the form of several new brands that Kurupt has on deck. The upcoming Kurupt’s Moonlight is a notas-heavy Sativa-based version of the Moonrock concept, built for those that need more of an energy boost. Meanwhile, he has also created an entirely separate line called Gotti’s Gold, which will include flower, cannagars, shatter, and even CBD products.

“With Gotti’s Gold, I can jump into these other lanes as well, with some of this good medicine for the people,” Kurupt says of the new line. “I really didn’t want to mix the brands because I wanted to keep Moonrock’s exactly what it is: all about the moon.”

Ironically, while Kurupt is excelling in the legal cannabis market, his longtime partner in Tha Dogg Pound, Daz Dillinger (legally Delmar Drew Arnaud) was arrested and charged outside Atlanta, GA in September 2018 on 13 marijuana-related felony counts.

Incidentally, this came after the rapper posted a now-deleted photo of cannabis products on Instagram with the caption “Wake N Bake lol @ Atlanta, Georgia.” Hours later, officers raided his home, seizing various marijuana items, totaling 117 grams. He posted a $15,000 bail one day later.

Kurupt sees the obvious irony of the situation and feels for his longtime Death Row Records collaborator. He was recently seen on Instagram rocking a Khalifa Kush jacket next Daz, as the two are working on a new Dogg Pound album together.

“They ran into his house with expectations of probably finding something more, like a grow house… They’re hitting people like Daz for smoking in his own home. And that shouldn’t be illegal. They want to play hardball,” says a frustrated Kurupt. “The south has been fighting for change for a mighty long time. It’s changing slowly, but surely.”

With federal cannabis legalization seemingly on the horizon and legal markets like Nevada fighting to expunge past marijuana charges, there is hope for the future in cases like Daz’s.

Kurupt believes things will change as time goes on.

“Let the people enjoy themselves. It calms them down. If they aren’t able to get marijuana, they are going to go to other things. They’re going to go to alcohol, which makes you rowdy,” he says. “I don’t see too many people violent off of weed. You want to relax your mind and enjoy. You’re all about that positivity. Nobody is overdosing off of weed.”

With a new solo album coming from Heritage Music Group – the same label behind Bruno Mars’ Grammy-winning 24K Magic LP – things are looking up for Kurupt, who maintains a positive outlook for the future of legalization.

“Hopefully it will get better as we get more of these states to get on this love train. Climb aboard, take a toke.”

t’s beginning to look a lot like spring. Well, sort of. During the month of February, the Vegas Valley saw more snowfall than it had in the last decade. With seasonal temperatures dipping down low and ample wind gusts, it’s been difficult to even remember what spring and summer feel like! However, as it does every year, the weather eventually warms, the sun stays out longer, the plants begin to bloom, and the terpenes abound. Spring is synonymous with so many variations of plants, flowers and herbs. One terpene that comes to mind when reminiscing about spring and sweet florals is common to many variations of plants, including our dear cannabis. It also happens to be one of my favorites, but that’s neither here nor there.

Geraniol is a terpene that occurs organically in geraniums, roses, peaches, bergamot, berries (black and blue), lemongrass, and many other plant sources. The overall fruity and sweet aroma of this terpene lends itself to usage within a wide variety of products such as perfumes, soaps, lotions and other naturally sweet-smelling body products and health aides. Bees produce this terpene naturally in their glands and scent their territories with the aromatic secretions that they produce in order to fend of predators and rival colonies.

While bees love geraniol, mosquitoes hate it, which makes it a useful terpene for deterring mosquitoes. Various plant oils like citronella and rose, have geraniol as a base flavor profile note. Due to the citrus element, Geraniol is also prevalent as a flavor additive for foods (namely desserts like ice cream and other sweets) where that sweet, citrus profile is desired.

Aside from its delicious flavor characteristics, how is the geraniol terpene beneficial as a cannabis terpene, you ask? The antioxidant, anti-cancer and tumor fighting qualities that it contains are used in the treatment of a wide variety of diseases and health issues. There have been studies done that show geraniol prohibits the growth of cancer cells as they pertain to colon cancer, lung cancer, oral cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver and prostate cancer.

By preventing the growth and develop of cancer cells and tumors, strains that are high in this terpene provide cannabis users with added medicinal benefits. Also having antifungal and antibacterial qualities, this terpene is useful in reducing infections and prohibiting fungal growth and development- an added benefit for patients suffering with symptoms of various diseases.

One of the most beneficial cannabis terpenes for the treatment of neuropathy, geraniol lowers levels of cytosolic calcium and helps to revitalize enzyme activity that may have been damaged through the nerve destruction caused by peripheral nerve injury. Patients suffering with neuropathy deal with numbness, tingling, pain and weakness in the extremities.

A few cannabis strains that test high in this beneficial terpene are Amnesia Haze, Great White Shark, Lavender, OG Shark and Master Kush. Grab some and celebrate the birth of spring and an overall sense of wellbeing!

Coalition for Patient Rights (CPR) >>> By Cindy Brown

t is time once again for us to make some noise in the Nevada Legislature on behalf of the medical marijuana patients of Nevada.

The Nevada 80th (2019) Legislative Session has started and a patient rights group called the Coalition for Patient Rights (CPR) is on the move to insure that the rights of Nevada Medical Marijuana Program Patients (NV-MMPs) are respected and enforced.

Did you know that cannabis consumers are at risk legally in Nevada as there are FEW protections for Medical Marijuana Patients in Nevada at this time? The Coalition for Patient Rights (CPR) is working with NORML, NV Patient to Patient, Cannabis Nurses Magazine and Media, Cannabis Nurses Network, Cohen Medical Group and Southern Nevada Women Veterans Coalition to acquire protections for Cannabis Patients in the state of Nevada.

CPR has created a points list of concerns for needed changes (see below) and these issues are life changing for a Cannabis Patient, fearing retribution for using Cannabis is hard emotionally on disabled and sick people. NV-MMPs have registered to be legal patients [seeking Patient Exemptions and Protections] and it’s the state of Nevada’s duty to keep patients safe and rights assured.

This is no easy task as these requested protection changes will be made through multiple committees at the Legislative level. CPR will be lobbying for NV-MMP patients now through June 2019.

Together, they are asking a number of legislators to incorporate patient access, patient safety, and patient consumption practices that fulfill the rights of patient’s rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. A patient’s right to consume the method of treatment of choice and the ability to consume medicine without prejudice and enforcement is at the heart of their mission. They are the voice for patients and are your voice this legislative session. Get involved today!

Coalition for Patient Rights (CPR) Goals: 1. Right to Medical Care and Treatment: i.e. organ transplants and pain management 2. Patient Grow Rights Expanded; Remove purchase and possession limits; Remove purchase tracking system in realtime; Allow patients to make concentrates from whole-plant 3. Make Affordable: State Tax Exemption / Remove Annual Card Fees (prevent black market sales) [Patient Exemption Option- On back of ID card) 4. Allow Samples/Donations Tax Exempt for Dispensaries/Free to Patients (assist VA/SSDI/low income) 5. CPS/Foster/Adopt/Caregiver – Patient/Parent Protections (avoid incrimination/family separation)

6. Changes to DUID Laws- increase 2 ng/dL to 1500 ng/dL; Document Impairment on video and/or two (2) officers on scene documenting impairment. [Patient Exemption Option].

7. Right to Consume: Patients Exempt from Ticketing/Equal Rights of NV State Standard Tobacco Policy [Patient Exemption- Right to Consume when/where needed during treatment- i.e. ADA Laws] 8. Right for Patient to use Treatment Option of their Choice and ability to consume on state or county Property 9. Add Qualifying Conditions: Autism, Opioid Dependency, Anxiety, Lyme disease On occasion, CPR will ask for people to email our legislators to let them know how we feel about certain aspects of the laws they are about to pass involving cannabis and our right to live a healthy, happy life. It is important for them to understand how the public feels and vote accordingly. They do listen to our calls and letters and CPR will need your help!

Becoming a Patient Advocate/Voice for CPR: Review, register and like the CPR website, Facebook and Twitter pages for current updates during the legislative process. Attend CPR monthly meetings (held in conjunction with LV-NORML) and actively get involved.

Dear Mary Jane, I am a 30-year-old happily married man, with a house, two cars and three children. For stress relief, my wife prefers chocolate and red wine (Pinot, as she is refined), whereas I use marijuana for both relaxation and a couple of medical issues. We used to argue about my marijuana use before it was legalized, but recent legislation has made that point moot. However, I still have three children in a suddenly marijuana-friendly world, and I am not sure how to educate them responsibly. Should I explain it to them, or let society do that job?

Hypocritical Hal

Dearest Hal, I would like to preface my remarks here with the statement that the best thing about having children is making them. After that, it will take between 18 years and eternity before you will ever get another decent night’s sleep. I have three children from four guys, so I know of which I speak. Having said that, however, I can honestly say that having children is the most rewarding thing that I have ever done. It is one of the few things in my life that I have taken seriously.

As much as I would like to explore the fact that your wife tormented you for smoking marijuana while she’s chugging away on wine and stuffing her gob with chocolate, I do not think that this is the most important element of your letter.

Suffice it to say that I do not think that you are the hypocritical one. Children are the most precious natural resource entrusted to any of us, and raising them to be happy, productive people is Job One. I know that our local school district is one of the largest in the country, but given the fact that Nevada regularly finishes dead last nationwide in terms of education, I certainly wouldn’t leave it to them to teach my children about drugs. Hell, they can’t even figure out algebra. Leaving society to teach your children about drugs is like letting them learn about sex by watching dogs mate. Hal, just as with anything else in life, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

What is it about drugs in general and marijuana in particular

that you want your children to understand? My first hint to you would be this: do not try to bullshit them. Know your subject matter! Kids are much, much smarter than we give them credit for sometimes. Granted, the kid who sticks his fork into the wall electrical outlet might be easy to fool, but where is the satisfaction there?

Additionally, don’t exaggerate or twist the narrative to fit your own agenda. Nothing will make a kid distrust you more than giving them bad information. I always stuck with the basics, distinguishing between which drugs can kill you and which ones will not: Marijuana = good, other drugs, like ketamine, or heroin, or opioids = bad! Do you see how this works, Hal? It is also important for them to know that they can talk to you about the subject without fear of being judged or punished.

Kids are curious. Would you rather have them get good information from you, or bad information from watching the dogs mate?

You are a good daddy because you clearly care about your children. Keep it up.

A day in the life of Jane Fix: Director of Patient Services, Cooperstate Farms, Arizona In 2001, 57 year-old Jane Fix changed her life forever, leaving behind a teaching job to work for a caregiving collective as a Budtender, then manager. In 2017 Cooperstate Farms, in the town of Snowflake, Arizona, added Fix to its team as Director of Patient Services. It didn’t take long for Jane to realize that the patients she was helping were confused on how to use cannabis as remedy on a daily basis.

“I had about three-quarters of a Botany degree under my belt when my father died, forcing me to drop out of college. Doing a deep dive into the science of healing with cannabis in order to help the patients in my care was welcomed research,” she explained.

Fix found that most of her patients were either using the wrong product or the wrong method of consumption and protocol for

their particular condition. For instance, she said that someone with fatigue syndrome might be eating medibles, when they should be inhaling a good, uplifting Sativa. Simple changes are easier to rectify than dealing with complex autoimmune conditions; but, her biggest challenge was in helping patients who just didn’t want to get high.

“One woman had Lyme Disease, suffering from many symptoms, including chronic pain. We ended up having her use suppositories, as the THC does not alter the ability to perform tasks during the day,” she added. “This patient cried during intake, she was so tired of feeling bad – then, I loved seeing the new pain-free version of herself when she came back into the office, shortly after starting the treatments.”

Using suppositories bypasses the liver, doing away with the headhigh from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the compound within the plant that causes psychoactive effects. It also gets the beneficial compounds of the plant into the bloodstream faster than going through the digestive system, for a speedier recovery.

Oregon-based, Indigenous science research, Paula-Noel Macfie, notes that cannabis taken orally delivers approximately 35 percent of beneficial compounds; with smoking giving a mere 15 percent; and suppositories delivering upwards of 80 percent of remedy from the plant into the endocannabinoid system (eCS); the receptors that accept and allocate plant-based remedies into the body.

Healing the Healer For her own daily dose, Fix said she starts off the day using a topical salve for knee pain, caused by a skiing accident, compounded by years of riding horses.

“I’ve got lots of wear and tear on my body, from running the riding

stables for eight years in Rocky Mountain Park, prior to my teacher career,” she explained. “I use iLava Touch topical salve on my knees every morning after I shower, and I’m good for the day.

It’s made in Tucson, and tests with 300 milligrams of THC and 250 milligrams of CBD.” Fix travels the cannabis conference and expo circuit around the country, representing and speaking on behalf of Cooperstate Farms. If she’s had an especially grueling day she’ll apply the topical before bed, as well.

“Stress affects my breathing, and I find myself either holding my breath or breathing very shallowly,” she explained. “I know many people take the capsules, but I use a CBD only tincture, as needed, made by Healing Resources of Scottsdale.

In the early evening, Fix said she’ll take a couple of hits only of a flower from Cooperstate Farms.

“Smoking flower in the evening helps to shift my mindset and wash away the day,” she shared. “Then, I’ll eat a medible and take another dose of CBD tincture for maintenance and prevention.

My favorite strain for nighttime is Dark Helmet – a 70/30 Indica/ Sativa hybrid – very relaxing. Mendo Purps is another favorite, San Fernando Valley and OG Kush – you can’t go wrong with those genetics.”

Fix waxes poetic on the fragrance of the essential oils of the plant, or terpenes, stating, “They help create a memory of the strain for me. I can’t look at a menu board in a dispensary without saliva forming in my mouth – kind of like Pavlov’s Dogs,” she laughed.

Her nighttime medible is typically a dose of chocolate made by Good Things Coming of Scottsdale.

“I am in love with the chocolate from Good Things Coming,” she continued. “It’s topped with lavender or freeze-dried raspberries.

It does wonders for my insomnia – I take it about an hour prior to my desired bedtime; sleep deeply, and wake-up refreshed.”

The cannabis used in the Good Things Coming products is sourced from Cooperstate Farms, with a launched in October of 2018. The chocolate comes from French chocolatier, Valrhona, in the town of Tain L’Hermitage in the Rhone Valley of France home of the “esteemed Ecole de Grand Chocolat, as noted on its website. It’s a good example of how the cannabis edible market has stepped up from the proverbial stem and seed filled weed brownies of lore, with top shelf plant material in the mix. It’s also good example of farms teaming up with manufacturers for specialty items.

At 65, Fix credits her years of good health to having a balanced Endocannabinoid System (eCS), due to daily micro-dosing of cannabis products, with several different modes of delivery.

“I’m fortunate to only visit the doctors for broken bones or stitches, no illnesses in many years – not many can say that,” she surmised. “I wish more people would understand the importance of advocating for their own health.”

With Local CBD Line s an entrepreneur and cannabis advocate, I love to help my family and my community. It’s an added bonus when I can bring awareness and show support to the products that I love and have discovered while shopping for products I use to enrich my life.

The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers

It’s March Madness time, and I hope you all had a chance to swing by your local dispensary to load up on your favorite cannabis products before hunkering down and watching hours upon hours of college basketball on either you or your buddy’s couch. Of course, if you wanted to enjoy the game and your cannabis at the same time, doing so at any bar or other social setting outside of the confines of a house would be illegal in the state of Nevada.

Unfortunately, if you want to enjoy both, you’re stuck at home.

Clearly my first eighteen articles bitching about this haven’t quite been enough to get cannabis consumption lounges going yet. Luckily, as one of his first moves as Nevada’s head honcho, Governor Sisolak seems to be ready to help tackle consumption lounges and many other cannabis-related issues with me! This is not all that surprising considering Nevada’s cannabis industry is thriving and is showing no signs of slowing down.

In late January, Governor Sisolak signed an executive order creating an advisory panel to establish rules and procedures for a “Marijuana Control Board.” What is this proposed Marijuana Control Board you ask? The Marijuana Control Board would be an agency of the State of Nevada that is tasked with regulating and ensuring compliance with Nevada’s cannabis laws and licensing procedures. If you live in Nevada or like to come here and try your luck at the casinos, you have probably already heard of the Nevada Gaming Control Board – the State agency overseeing Nevada’s legalized gambling. The Marijuana Control Board is the same idea – a centralized agency with oversight over anything cannabisrelated in Nevada. Cannabis is a highly competitive and regulated industry, and having a Marijuana Control Board should help ensure there is consistency in these regulations throughout the state. As the Governor aptly stated in his executive order, the “success of the general cannabis industry in the state is vitally important to the economy of Nevada.”

The panel’s main task will be to look at the Gaming Control Board and other similar agencies to come up with proposals for the framework and structure for the Marijuana Control Board, as well as rules for how the Board would ultimately regulate the cannabis laws and licensing. Governor Sisolak has also asked the panel to study and make proposals related to the lack of cannabis banking in Nevada, taxes, and – wait for it – cannabis consumption lounges! We may finally see the state weigh-in and pass statewide legislation approving consumption lounges!

Locally, the City of Las Vegas is still marching forward with its own draft bill related to cannabis consumption lounges within the city limits and met at the end of February to advance discussions before voting. It is anticipated the Las Vegas City Council will approve consumption lounges for opening as soon as this coming summer. For more information on the City’s proposed bill, check out The Cannab-Esq. Chronicles #18 in the February 2019 issue of Vegas Cannabis Magazine! While the City of Las Vegas has not been deterred from moving forward, the Clark County Commissioners have decided to table Clark County’s discussions on consumption lounges until after the Governor’s panel completed their task and the state takes the lead. This is a

little disappointing considering the County created its own Green Ribbon Advisory Panel back in 2017 to discuss consumption lounges and have been having regular meetings ever since.

Luckily, we may not have to wait long before we finally have answers. Like most of us, the Governor wants to see fast action on this, and has set a deadline of March 15, 2019 for the panel to have draft bill language for the Nevada Legislature to vote on this legislative session. It is exciting to see real movement on these issues, especially as it relates to the banking and consumption lounge issues. I guess the only problem I have with this whole thing is that Governor Sisolak never asked for my input! Governor, if you’re reading this, look to the page on the right, jot down my info, and shoot me a call or email!

To end this month’s article, I wanted to change the topic up slightly – ok, entirely. If you recall from waaaay back in The CannabEsq. Chronicles #1, I explained that one of my other passions in life – other than cannabis – was using my abilities as a licensed attorney in Nevada and Michigan to fight for people’s civil rights and ensure justice was had when irresponsible police departments and police officers do wrong. And no, I’m not anti-cop. But I am for accountability for any officer or department that uses excessive force, violates civil rights, or breaks the law.

In any event, in 2017, the Nevada Legislature passed Senate Bill 176, which made it a requirement that all law enforcement officers in Nevada be outfitted with an electronic video and audio recording device – also called a bodycam. Although this law took effect over eight months ago, the North Las Vegas Police Department has still yet to outfit its officers with bodycams. The purpose of this law is to bring transparency to officer-involved incidents. In my experience, bodycam footage typically exonerates alleged police misconduct more than it proves actual police misconduct. That is why it is all the more troubling that the North Las Vegas Police Department continues to ignore the clear mandates of Nevada law.

What is one to do when the entity in charge of upholding the law is the one blatantly violating the law? And before you yell out “lawsuit,” bear in mind that in order to bring an action in Court against someone, you must have “standing” - i.e., have suffered some form of harm/damage as a result of the alleged misconduct.

It has been over eight months since the NLVPD was supposed to have bodycams on its officers and they haven’t done it yet.

Is it really going to take someone getting harmed – and hence obtaining standing to bring an action – before NLVPD will just do what they are required to do pursuant to Nevada law? Governor, call me on this one as well! #StayWoke!

TALES FROM THE CRIP

Of Sledgehammers and Scalpels Have you ever heard of Chuck Yeager? Chuck Yeager was the first man to break the speed of sound (Mach 1) in an airplane.

Prior to this achievement, the speed of sound was thought to be an absolute, the limit of velocity that man could achieve.

Learned scientists of the time posited that travelling faster than Mach 1 could result in the repeal of the laws of physics.

Dogs and cats breeding, cows oinking, pigs mooing--it could have been a real mess.

The next type of drug that I used was called a “monoclonal antibody”. This means that the drug was specifically designed for one purpose: to calm down my crazy immune system.

Mach 1 is now broken hourly, and animal husbandry remains fundamentally unchanged.

What really interests me is the airplane that Yeager used to accomplish this milestone. It must have been fancy! Well, no, not really. He flew an experimental Bell X1, which was quite literally a rocket engine with a cockpit screwed on. It was truly an airborne sledgehammer, especially compared to, say, today’s X-15, which tops out at 6.6 Mach.

I have a disease called multiple sclerosis, and it travels nowhere near as fast as 6.6 Mach. I have had it for about 20 years now, and I am way familiar with the differences between sledgehammers and scalpels regarding the treatment of this disease. Way back when I was diagnosed, medications for multiple sclerosis were few and far between. My first drug was fairly unpleasant; it was an interferon which I self-injected (with a freaking LONG needle) weekly and always left me feeling like I had the flu for three or four days afterward. This drug was a sledgehammer that really didn’t do me much good at all. So it goes, right? Early days and all?

The medications that I use now?

Have you ever seen video taken from a camera mounted on the nose of a smart bomb? Have you heard how some of these bombs pick out a 1’ x 1‘ target from an acquisition altitude of 10,000 feet? THIS is the equivalent of the multiple sclerosis drugs that I now use. Crazy effective, but CRAZY expensive (don’t ask. Believe me.) I recently started a new drug (Ocrevus,

for you pharmaceutical fetishists out there), and I’m pretty sure that it is smarter than me. Current MS-think is that B-cells or, more specifically the CD-19 and CD-24 agonists attached to the B-cells, are what cause my immune system to go all Donner Party on my nervous system. This line of drugs is not just a scalpel, but a laser scalpel, eliminating a very specific hunk of “bad code”, for want of a better term. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

Guess where I am going with this? Anybody? Well, just for a second, let us examine the evolution of marijuana, medical or recreational, from a sledgehammer to scalpel perspective. Way back when, I knew people who named their strains of marijuana. It was not the scientific strain name as we have now, you understand; rather, it was named after the effect provided. So let’s talk about Sledgehammer! It was bone dry, brown, compact, and full of seeds and stems. However, if you smoked enough of it, it would put you to sleep for quite some time.

Time marched on. I discovered hydroponic product at some point, and that was a little bit better than Sledgehammer. It wasn’t compressed, it wasn’t brown, and it wasn’t full of seeds. Still, the THC level couldn’t have been much more than 12%. It did not, however, leave me with bright red eyes and a sore throat. Score two points for evolution to meat cleaver! The acquisition problem back then was no different from the same problems today.

When you have a fairly limited supply chain, you can only expect so much in terms of quality and quantity; as such, sometimes you have no choice but to remain at meat cleaver level until science catches up with you.

The marijuana in Las Vegas is not scalpel level. It is gamma knife level. It is quantum-scalpel level. Regardless of your mood or affliction, you will find the edge that you need to get to where you want to be. But it gets even better than that! There is currently a phase 2 trial being run on a cannabis based medication to treat progressive multiple sclerosis. I have discussed the FDA before and its existence as a bureaucratic labyrinth. This drug, however, has been given front-of-the-line status, testifying to its blade-like nature.

Things are getting exciting! Question, if a cannabis-based drug proved to be as effective as the high-end medication that I am using now, do you think that it would be as expensive? Spoiler alert: you had better believe it would be!

Vegas Cannabis Magazine: Please give us some insight into your background and what led you to the cannabis industry.

Tristan Watkins: I started my research career in academia where I researched the neurobiological effects of cannabis and MDMA, the reward system and addiction, and the interaction of the brain and body in obesity. I have always been interested in relatively unknown topics that have a lot left to discover, which ultimately led me to cannabis.

The anecdotal reports of the many benefits of cannabis caught my eye. I realized that THC can't be the only compound causing this myriad of effects. If not THC, then what? This question led me to researching the high number of compounds found in cannabis, including terpenes and rare cannabinoids. The knowledge I gained led me to believe that controlling what goes into a cannabis product controls the effect a consumer experiences. This was the beginning of my new passion.

VCM: What brought you to LucidMood?

TW: LucidMood was a perfect match. I first met the founder, Charles Jones, and learned about how LucidMood products focused on the effect, rather than the high.

We clicked immediately. Our first meeting turned into an intense working session discussing ways to validate, improve, and develop specific moods and effects. I became a team member within a few days and began developing new products right away. After 72 hours, I had my dream job.

VCM: How important do you feel the entourage effect is when dealing with cannabis?

TW: The entourage effect is extremely important to the cannabis experience, whether recreational or medical. However,

it is more nuanced than simply choosing full spectrum extract. The effect delivered by a particular cannabis product is determined by what compounds it contains. For example, a high THC product will be much more dissociating than a 1:1 THC:CBD product. One combination of terpenes may be heavily sedating while another combination may help you feel refreshed and energized. What’s in the product determines how you feel. With this understanding, LucidMood uses neuroscience to leverage the entourage effect, allowing our products to deliver the effects you want -- without compromise.

VCM: What cannabinoids should patients be looking for aside from the typical THC and CBD? TW: There are three rare cannabinoids that patients should explore. Cannabichromene (CBC) may help relieve pain.

This next fact may come as a surprise to many. One of the biggest instigators of chronic inflammation? Stress.

Whether it’s physical, emotional, or psychosocial, chronic stress can impact your body’s inflammatory response. It’s well known in cannabis literature that compounds in the plant act as potent antioxidants, reducing the impact of environmental and physical stressors. From Yellow to Green raditionally in March, I write stories pertaining to those green-wearing and mischievous elfins known as Leprechauns. However, this year I’m going in another direction; downward. There are a few out there who may already know that March 17th celebrates not only St. Patrick but is also National Submarine Day. The sandwich or the boat, you ask? I’m talking boat, but there will be an Infused Sandwich recipe, later.

While National Submarine Day is more widely celebrated in the United Kingdom most Silent Service recruits and Seafarers will be glad at least one American landlubber is finally bringing this under-celebrated day to the surface.

Likely rooted in our urgings to fly with birds in spite of the absence of wings and swim among fish minus the ability to breathe underwater, we humans have come up with some rather curious means of satisfying these yearnings.

With regard to Submarines our inventions have gone from simplistic submersibles to nuclear-powered underwater behemoths. Efforts to experience the exhilaration of soaring with eagles or the esoteric eeriness of swimming among creatures of the deep, have seen a myriad of inventions and contraptions, both failed and successful; even if only partially.

It all began with Dutch engineer, Cornelis Jacobszoon. This creative and nearly obsessed gentleman came up with the idea of covering a small rowboat in greased leather, from top to bottom and all around. He and a dozen oarsmen

rowed this slippery vessel beneath the Thames, using snorkels so they could breathe. It was a start. Almost a hundred years later, Sir David Bushnell built the “Turtle” which was the first submarine used in combat. This wooden Sub employed an oversized screw imbedded into the hulls of ships with time bombs attached! By 1863 the French “Plongeur” went deepest of all those before her. Powered by a compressed air engine, thereby replacing the man-power used to propel previous mechanical amphibians. Alas, Plongeur could only delve a measly thirty-three feet down due to the twenty-three internal air tanks it took to inch her forward.

Finally in 1900, American, John Holland manifested the first Submarine to use gas and electrical power in his U.S.S. Holland.

This was the standard Sub used during the Great War. Like me, you may remember hearing something about the U.S.S. Holland in junior high. However it is far more likely most are familiar with another Submarine; one we old Weed Worshipers are acquainted with, the “Yellow Submarine.”

It was the late sixties, when John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney wrote the song with Ringo on lead vocals. As was often the case during that era, there were rumors the song held deeper meaning. The Beatles remained steadfast this little diddy was written as a children’s song. Light, upbeat with words easy for kids to remember and sing along. The imagery was that of a yellow-colored Submarine where children and their friends could gather and play.

McCartney assured everyone the song had nothing to do with the group. Yet alternative-meaning seekers continued to push the idea their lyrics implied more than just fun and games for the kiddies. The most persistent rumor of the time was that the color yellow signified the happiness and youthful innocence the Beatles enjoyed as longtime mates and musicians. The Submarine represented the shift of living lives free of celebrity to lives under intense pressure. And the “sea of green,” well, that was symbolic of the tremendous amounts of money they were raking in.

But the Fab Four continued their insistence the song was straightforward in its offering as a fun and lively song for children. They even shared that originally the song was to be entitled “Sparky.”

Demonstrating their harmless intentions, the film “Yellow Submarine” was released two years later. This was an animated film about a community of music-loving inhabitants who lived beneath the waves in Pepperland.

TALES OF LIFE & FOOD They unexpectedly found themselves under siege when a group of music-hating creatures, the Blue Meanies, set about ridding Pepperland of all music. This prompts, Lord Mayor to enlist the sailor, Old Fred, to bubble up and head for Liverpool. Once there, Fred must recruit the help of the Beatles. The Beatles are shocked and dismayed that anyone would be forced to live without music; even those who live “in pineapples under the deep blue sea.” They agree to help and travel to Pepperland in Fred’s Yellow Submarine.

Of course the Blue Meanies don’t stand a chance against the Beatles and their cool music. The sounds of rhythmic melodies and percussions are restored and Pepperland is once again a groovy and musical place.

While writing this article I took a little break deciding it appropriate to review the film. I hadn’t seen it since its release in 1966.

Certainly film animation has come a long way, but this was flip’n fun! I couldn’t believe I’d forgotten how great the music was; “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” “All You Need Is Love” and of course the title song: “Yellow Submarine.” And the brilliant colors; Peter Max like images of characters such as, the Boob, Robin the Butterfly Stomper, and the Terrible Flying Glove. The entire film was laden with delightful imagery displaying how the forces of good overpower the forces of evil.

It was late Saturday afternoon as I sipped from my glass of white wine while singing along with “All Together Now,” when my stomach began to join in the chorus. I was hungry. I meandered into the kitchen to prepare something fishy and cosmic in keeping with the theme of the movie. I settled on a Sub-sandwich; an Infused Hoagie, Po’boy, or Spuckie; yes that cheese and meat stuffed sandwich goes by many names depending upon where you’re eating it. I wondered, where did this Edible Torpedo get its start?

Ironically, Sub-sandwiches are Italian in origin. Some say it was an Italian shopkeeper, who ran his business in New London, Connecticut, next-door to the U.S. Navy’s primary Submarine Base.

Signore Capaldo created handheld meal for nearby dock workers using lots of deli meats and cheeses served on halved sourdough baguettes. He called his creation The Grinder, as that was the slang term for dock workers. Some say he called it The Grinder because that’s what your teeth had to do to bite through the bread to eat the sandwich. Another story explains the emergence of Submarine Sandwiches occurring during the 1940’s. There existed a small restaurant in Wilmington, Delaware where another Italian cook prepared a sandwich similar to Capaldo’s. The restaurant owner decided this one item would bring in more customers if they could buy the sandwich and go if they desired. So he advertised his cook’s version of this massive sandwich in the local phone book this way: “Submarine Sandwiches To Take Out.” Thie “take out” was a novel idea. Word spread from there and . . .

Back to my grumbling stomach. Rummaging through the fridge I found everything needed for my inspired culinary creation: Port-holer’s Infused Tuna and Cheddar Sub. Using leftover grilled Ahi Tuna from last night’s dinner, along with remnants from my Antipasti platter, I prepared a delicious and effective sandwich.

It was a cold and cloudy afternoon so I decided a hot sandwich

would be even better – Panino! My Sottomarino is piled high with tuna, salty capers and olives, velvety cheese and crisp, peppery arugula, served on honey-mustard-mayo slathered sourdough.

Here’s hoping you consider preparing this Green (inside and on) Sub for your Yellow Submarine Celebration.

Cosmic Muffin’s Recipe For Port-Holer’s Tuna & Cheddar Sub/Panino *Equipment Required: Panini Press Ingredients Tuna: ½ lb. Ahi Tuna (no bones)* or 1 6-oz can tuna in water 3 Tbsp fresh thyme 3 Tbsp garlic powder 2 tsp cayenne pepper 1 Tbsp Old Bay zest of 1 lemon salt and pepper to taste Infused olive oil for cooking Spread: 4 Tbsp Infused Mayo Juice of ½ lemon 1 tsp capers

2 Tbsp Dijon mustard 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce salt and pepper to taste

Sandwich: Grilled tuna – sliced or 1 6-oz can tuna packed in olive oil* 4 Tbsp Infused butter – melted 4 slices sourdough bread handful of arugula ¼ cup roughly chopped olives 4 slices cheddar cheese Instructions Tuna: Combine thyme, garlic powder, cayenne, Old Bay in small mixing bowl. Brush both sides of each tuna steak with some Infused olive oil then using your hands press seasoning mixture onto both sides of tuna steak(s). Allow to rest for about 15 minutes. To cook tuna steak, heat up grill, brush with Infused olive oil. Grill tuna 2 – 2 ½ minutes per side, center should remain rare. *If using canned tuna, spoon drained tuna into small mixing bowl and stir in same seasonings.

Spread: In separate mixing bowl combine all ingredients for spread. Taste for seasoning. Set to side until ready to use.

Assembly: Heat Panini press according to manufacturer’s directions. Lightly brush top and bottom of press with Infused olive oil. Brush generous amount of Infused butter onto both sides (inside and out) of all slices of bread. Slather sauce onto inside of each slice. On one side of each sandwich layer arugula, tuna slices or canned tuna, olives and cheese. Top with other bread half. Place sandwich into press, cooking until bread has grill marks, and cheese has melted.

INFINITY & BEYOND >>> TO Galactic honors the musical past by always looking to the future

A

bit of the Big Easy is arriving in Las Vegas this month, when jazz-funk jam band Galactic arrives at Brooklyn Bowl, riding high off a series of well-received East Coast shows. Indeed one critic in a recent concert review, observed that Galactic displays “incredible improvisational skill with everything from saucy sax solos to funky guitar solos”— unusual during a conservative, electronics-saturated era in music, when everything sounds clipped, polished and auto-tuned.

Kicking around since the early 1990s (sometimes with, and at other times without, a singer), Galactic is a band that catches fire whenever a vocalist is introduced. Recently the band has been recording and touring with soulful R&B singer Erica Falls—dubbed “the New Queen of New Orleans Neo-Soul” by the music press.

Falls has a lot to do with Galactic’s ability to step back and let a song reveal itself. “Higher and Higher,” off the band’s 2015 disc Into the Deep, for instance, is pure super-charged mega-funk, but a pop structure lurks between the wicked drumming (courtesy of Stanton Moore) and gnarly guitar (provided by Jeff Raines).

“This record has a pop sensibility, certainly,” says Raines during a phone chat with VCM. “You’re not the first person to mention that to me in the last 24 hours. It wasn’t intentional, though. Sometimes, when you’re working on a song, it veers in an unexpected direction.

That happened a few times on our recent album.”

Still, Raines make no apologies for Galactic’s bid for accessibility.

Yes, there’s an abundance of pop hooks, but at the end of the day it’s about coming up with something that satisfies not only the musicians in the band, but also the singer. The technical aspect is always important, but lyrics end up being a factor, too.

Case in point: title track “Into the Deep,” a haunting, sensual jam with words that cast love as an exploration into the unknown, as an emotional undertow: Hopscotch/Double Dutch/And going fishing/ It don’t matter /If you’re playing or wishing/Feeling like we’re too far gone. The lyrical themes were shaped by veteran Galactic wordsmith Jim Greer and by Revivalists lead singer David Shaw,

with last-minute revisions by raspy-voiced chanteuse Macy Gray, who recorded the vocals on this track. It has, in the last few years, become one of Galactic’s best-known cuts.

“At first, it wasn’t even close to being among my favorite songs to play live,” confesses Raines. “But we just played it two days ago in Virginia, and it dawned on me that—yes—this is an amazing tune.

When you’re living on the road with a new album’s worth of material to play, your love for the songs evolves.”

What hasn’t changed is band’s regard for its hometown. In Raines’ mind, there was pre- and post-Katrina New Orleans; the disaster radically altered the cityscape.

“In the end, the public schools reached a better place, since they all got rebuilt,” Raines points out. “Still, it’s hard not to look around, even today, and see something vastly different, something missing. It was all we thought about it for a few years; we dwelled on it. But enough time has passed now that it’s not as overwhelming.”

The melancholy has tinged, not tainted, Galactic’s upbeat, groove-centric style. Take, for instance, the song “Domino,” which elaborates and expands on Galactic’s sonic palette. There’s a smidgen of White Stripes, a dash of James Brown, a dollop of pop, and a helping of Galactic’s older jam-oriented sound. Listening to the track’s dirty bass guitar, gonging snare-drum sound, and barbwire guitar motif, you begin to realize that, for Galactic, the studio is another instrument.

“Two of us [in Galactic] are producers, and we have our own private studio here in New Orleans,” says Raines. “When we’re not on the road, Galactic music is being worked on at a steady clip. We keep ourselves intellectually engaged in this project, especially when it comes to getting on the road. For instance, sometimes we’ll take an old record we’ve done and perform three songs [from it] as a medley.”

Galactic is all about reinvention, making old tunes new again for fans who come to see the band regularly. For its Las Vegas show, the band is aiming for less dead time between songs—for crafting a polished, seamless, straight-through set. Maybe the glitz of Sin City is rubbing off on Raines and his bandmates?

“What’s fascinating about Las Vegas is that you can go see Celine Dion or Britney Spears or Lady Gaga, and then there are these little Honky-tonk bars scattered all along Boulder City and elsewhere,” says Raines, who is no stranger to exploring the musical underground of the Vegas Valley. “There are many different sides and facets to your city, including the wild International cuisine. We always visit the Las Vegas Chinatown and have incredible meals there.”

As a touring band, Las Vegas is great fun for Galactic. The fans who come to see the band playing live are always impressive, given our city’s tourist-driven economy. And the retro tradition and constant reinvention of Sin City are things that appeal to Galactic for good reason. Especially since it’s this synthesis of musical heritage and risk-taking that defines the band. Raines and his bandmates can’t help themselves; they enjoy making music together, and alone.

“My master bedroom is where I keep all my guitars,” says Raines.

This is a very rare and interesting product. Delta 8 isn’t that uncommon to find,but extractors don’t usually isolate that compound. The first time I tried it, I hadn’t smoked, vaporized, or consumed any cannabis for the entire day. I wanted to figure out how this was affecting me and analyze what the effects were.

I quickly noticed that it is very thick and stable. I needed to warm up the tip to soften it up. So I gripped the plastic tip and pulled it off so it didn’t get melted.

The rest of the syringe is made of glass so you can just set the tip right on a hot banger while it’s cooling to melt the Delta 8 a bit. Dabbing this felt like dabbing CBD. I didn’t get too stoned from it, although it had about 10% Delta 9. It was pleasurable and cognitive. I could definitely continue working or playing, either one, and it put me in a good mood. I’m going to have to incorporate this into my routine.

CSI Humboldt

I have a great time talking to all kinds of people in the cannabis world each month. I gotta say though, I was beyond stoked to hang out and talk cannabis genetics and breeding with second generation Humboldt County grower and advanced breeder, Caleb, of CSI Humboldt.

One of his most recent creations is the Hello, a collaboration with UnderRated, who first hipped me to the strain last month. With this pungent and potent throwback to the classic strains the Emerald Triangle first became known for, Caleb is using his breeding skills to remind everyone of what made Humboldt famous. Like he says in the Hello video, “It’s time to say Hello to Humboldt again.”

Hopper: Thanks for taking the time to talk to Vegas Cannabis Magazine. How did you discover your passion and skill for breeding? How long have you been doing it?

Caleb: I’m a second generation grower. My Dad was in the clone trade, poppin’ seeds and everything back in the 70’s and 80’s around the Emerald Triangle.

So I picked up on that stuff early on. It was probably almost twenty years ago I started really getting into growing seed plants. I just really liked growing from seed, and what easier way to grow from seed than to breed your own.

Hopper: You have deep roots in Humboldt County. What’s the history of CSI? Caleb: CSI goes back almost five years. I actually have two companies now. CSI Humboldt, which is dedicated to all my feminized seeds, and Pirates of the Emerald Triangle, which is dedicated to all my regular seeds and all the Landrace stuff, the pure strains. That’s more my true passion. The feminized, they’re fun. Humboldt CSI is actually my

website where I sell both of my different seed company seeds.

Hopper: Explain the difference between a grower and a breeder, especially an advanced breeder like yourself. I don’t think the average smoker realizes how much influence breeders have on what strains are available.

Caleb: Right. Most growers, they just grow what the market tells them to grow. They grow a specific, small set of strains and hybrids, whereas breeders, at least advanced breeders, have a large pool to pull from, of both seeds and heirloom clones. They can blend whatever they want together, at any time.

Hopper: What strains can we expect to see at harvest this year?

What about next year?

Caleb: As far as stuff I’ve been working on- I’m getting into my Old Family Purple hybrids a lot.

That’s Triangle Kush x Purple Urkle, both heirloom cuts. So, I’ve got those hybridized with a bunch of other things. What a lot of people don’t realize is a lot of the real popular strains that they’ve already been buying and smoking for years, the core plants used in those are Triangle Kush and Purple Urkle. Throw in one other ingredient and you’ve got your Girl Scout Cookies and your Wedding Cakes and all these others. They’re all just these same genetics. Even Purple Punch, it’s just an OG and an Urkle variation slapped together.

Hopper: Who are some of your favorite breeders? I’m a big Arjan fan, from back in the day.

Caleb: I’d have to say, at least lately, Bodhi is a huge favorite of mine. I also like Mean Gene, I like his breeding skills. I’m buddies with cats like Archive. I also like, I wouldn’t call them old school cats, but people who have stayed more on the Landrace pure, hybridizing tip, like CannaBioGen over in Spain. Those would be in my top five, I’d say.

Hopper: What are your favorite strains to smoke, to grow, and to breed?

Caleb: Some of my favorite strains to breed aren’t my favorite strains to smoke, but they make hybrids that are so much better than themselves. Like, I love working with Mendo Purple, even though I’m not a huge fan of smoking it by itself.

Hopper: But if you mix it up, it makes an excellent cocktail.

Caleb: Oh yeah! And then, of course, Purple Urkle I absolutely love. That one is good to smoke, but I love its hybrids even better. And then you throw in some Triangle Kush and some Chemdawg, the original ’91 cut.

Hopper: The Chem ’91, that’s one of the parents of the Hello, right?

Caleb: Yeah, yeah it is.

Hopper: So let’s talk about the new Hello strain. Music and cannabis go together like peanut butter and jelly, that’s why I’m so stoked on this collaboration you did with UnderRated and Garth Vader.

How did the Hello come about?

Caleb: Well, UnderRated and Garth and I have a mutual buddy who is all about the music and the herbs, and he connected us and we went from there with UnderRated steamrollin’ it, his vision and all that.

Hopper: It’s awesome. It’s a great way to expose people in the music industry to what’s currently going on in the cannabis world.

It’s really symbiotic.

Caleb: I also like working with them because I’m born and raised third, fourth generation Humboldt local, and he’s a Humboldt local himself, and I like supporting people who grew up here.

Hopper: It’s awesome hearing from people like you and

UnderRated who actually grew up living the Humboldt life.

Hopper: I think you’ve already got that handled!

Caleb: It was way different back in the day. I grew up out in the hills, and we had to deal with CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting) and the choppers flying over and all that. It wasn’t friendly before ’96, and then it still wasn’t friendly for almost another ten years after ’96. Trinity County is where me and a lot of family worked, and up until ’02, maybe even ’04-’05 you could only grow two plants outdoors. They’d swoop in and snatch your crops.

Caleb: Yeah well, I do but I don’t.

If I take a nap for six months, everybody is gonna forget my name. That’s just how it is.

Hopper: Yeah, I don’t think people realize what growers here went through. I have another quick question about the Hello- What made you choose those genetics?

It’s Irene Kush and Chem ’91, right?

Caleb: Yeah. I’ve been a fan of the Irene for the better part of a decade now. It reminds me of old school Kush from Humboldt, it’s just that piney and dank. And then of course, Chem ’91 adds potency to anything it touches and it breeds really strong plants. Although, Irene, she ain’t a pretty girl, she doesn’t have a lot of frost. The same with Chem ’91, you know. She’s not the blingbling that the kids love.

Hopper: I’d rather have something amazing in my head, than just bag appeal with nothing behind it. Nowadays it seems like it’s all just about the bling-bling shine, but when you smoke some of them, it’s crap. It’s all show, no go.

Caleb: Right, so I grew over a hundred of these Purple Urkle crossed to all these different OG Kush’s, and I had a ton of Purple Punch phenotypes, right. Just frosty, gorgeous looking things.

Every single one of those I smoked, they were just ‘meh’.

Hopper: What are your thoughts on the industry and how it’s changed over the years?

Caleb: It’s a little scary, I don’t know. Especially as fast as it’s changing. I’ve already got a lot of friends and family who have dropped out of the business. I’m just trying to carve out a small niche for myself.

Hopper: But like I was saying earlier, you’re growing what’s going to be popular next year. That’s the beauty of breeding, to me. You’re setting the trends, deciding what people are gonna be smoking next year. The other thing that I really admire about breeding is the patience it takes. To do it right, you’re looking at projects that are lasting at least a year.

Caleb: Yeah, it does take some time.

Hopper: You’re doing some feminized souvenir Hello seeds to go along with the new UnderRated and Garth Vader “Black Markets Matter” album, right?

Caleb: Basically, he grew out a bunch of the F1 feminized hybrid, and I grew out a bunch of the F1 feminized hybrid, and we made our selections from that, and I reversed one of mine and I’m pollinating his selections and my selections to create the Hello.

You know how there’s F1, F2, etc?

I think the term that fits the best is F2R. So it’s an F2 reversal.

That’s what the Hello is.

In February, the World Ag Expo was held in Tulare, California. The Ag world is preparing for a hemp agricultural take-over. This event is no High Times, I have to say it is the largest convention expo I have ever seen. I wish I had more than one day to see the show. The beginning of the new hemp era reminds me of the cannabis industry in the middle of the 90’s. Everyone is looking for genetics, standard operating procedures, wondering where, how, who and what to do. In California it is not farmer’s choice in seed selection. As of February, the approved seeds on the approved hemp seed list consists of seeds that could destroy the medical cannabis outdoor cultivation industry just like what happened in Colorado and Oregon with a 25 million dollar lawsuit. Large groups of medical cannabis cultivators were cross-pollinated by careless hemp farmers pollen. This is a problem the country should avoid. Feminized seed options, tissue culture technology, clones are the best bet and sustainable for the large number of plants needed nationwide with the most control. This approach can be utilized in any of the categories that hemp is being grown for. Companies like Growit.co and Sante Botanical have solutions for tissue culture and hemp production and extraction.

Hemp specific nutrients, soils, microbial products, seeds and tissue cultured genetics that are proven.

Champs Trade Show was off the hook. Over 1100 vendors and super after parties this winter show.

My favorite was Nectar Collectors party held at Jerome’s Bakers Studio. Christian owner of Nectar Collector gave away a bunch of custom glass as appreciation for people showing up to support. I gave away (100) 1200 MG UNCLE BUDDIES FULL SPECTRUM TINCTURES at the party.

1200 Mg CBD Tincture Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients 1 once UNCLE BUDDIES 1200 MG FULL SPECTRUM TINCTURE 11/2 (8-ounce) packages brick style cream cheese, softened to room temperature 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 2 cups powdered sugar 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Instructions In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or in a large mixing bowl using a hand-held mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the butter, UNCLE BUDDIES TINCTURE and mix for about 1 minute until well combined and smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continue mixing until fully combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Frost on cooled cupcakes, cakes, or other desserts.

Vanilla Bean Distillate Cupcakes Ingredients 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup (5 grams distillate infused) unsalted butter, softened 1 3/4 cups sugar 2 large eggs 1 vanilla bean 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups whole milk Instructions Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line cupcake tins with wrappers.

Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the infused butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time then add the scraped vanilla bean seeds, vanilla extract and beat 1 minute Mix flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, and beat until the batter is mixed.

Fill each cupcake cup 2/3 full with batter, bake the for 15 to 18 minutes.

Red Eyed Velvet Cake Ingredients 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature 1 1/2 cups fine white granulated sugar 2 large eggs 1/4 cup canola oil infused 2 grams Distillate and 3 grams sexy Kief 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder plus 1 tablespoon extra for dusting 2 1/2 tablespoons red food coloring (liquid, not gel) 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 tablespoon white vinegar 2 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup buttermilk Instructions Heat oven to 350°F Lightly grease two 8-inch cake pans with butter or non-stick oil spray and lightly dust with 1 tablespoon of the sifted cocoa powder.

Cream butter and sugar together until light in color. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each egg.

Mix together infused oil, remaining cocoa powder, red food coloring and vanilla until smooth. Stir color mixture and vinegar through the creamed sugar mixture Sift together flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl. Add half of the dry ingredients and half of the buttermilk to the wet ingredients; mix well. Repeat with remaining dry ingredients and buttermilk.

Divide batter among the 2 prepared pans and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack completely.

Transfer 1 cake onto a serving dish/plate, flat-side down. Trim the top dome off of the cake to create a flat bottom later. Scoop about 1 1/2 - 2 cups of frosting onto cake and spread evenly over the top.

Place second cake layer on top and use remaining frosting to cover top and sides of cake.

Crumble trimmed pieces of cake to decorate.

Viva la Renaissance

There was a day when I thought of myself as "King of the Dinner party." As this is my profession and passion, the artist comes out in me to the point that I have been threatened multiple times with having my "Black Card" revoked.

With my love of theater, musicals, and live action dinner parties, I simply smile and ask, "are you havin’ fun yet?"

We have young jedi apprentice chefs from the San Francisco bay area to the furthest reaches of the Florida Keys that have embraced this "Art Renaissance". The young minds see the future in our past. They see our original concepts and with every genre at their fingertips, their out-of-the-box train of thought sometimes takes my breath away.

The Will Ferrell SNL skit seems to be gaining momentum at infused dinner parties. We have created a fictitious meeting place. The pasha- plush, welcoming waters in the jacuzzi at the prestigious hotel La Pavillion. My alter ego is" Talofa" (“Fa” to my close friends). Upon hearing about the alter egos, my girlfriend took it up like she was "Sybil ", or for the younger generation, "Split".

Just the creation of the alter egos was an evening of belly laughs and many tears.

But the best story was of a retired server in the southern United States who thought to raise the bar of her bridge club by throwing an infused party, and now there is a waiting list a month out. The kicker is everyone is 60 plus years young! (She told me ‘thanks for the article’s... Mama’s got a brand new bag!’

We say, Viva La Renaissance, Mrs. Breaux) Mardi Gras is March 5th this year, but in New Orleans, it’s a “Renaissance” every week.

This recipe for Mahi Tacos has all the colors of New Orleans, it’s gluten free, pescetarian and great for an hors d’ oeuvres party. Add some “Snoop Dogg OG Canna-Aioli” with a little chipotle and I believe you have a party, my friends!

Chipotle Canna-Aioli

(Chef notes: Aioli is a fancy name for mayo or garlic mayo to be specific. Classically, it is just garlic and olive oil mashed up, today most chefs add egg yolks to emulsify the sauce) Skillet quick canna-oil: 1C. extra virgin olive oil (California Olive Ranch is a good local brand) 1/8 Snoop Dogg OG flower, decarbed Put the decarbed flower and olive oil in a cast iron skillet, stir over low heat to just simmer. Continue stirring for 15-20 min then take off the heat to cool and strain.

Aioli: (This can be done in a mortar and pestle, food processor or whisk in a bowl) 6 cloves garlic, minced 3 egg yolks 1 lemon, juice and zest 1t. salt 1t. black pepper 1T. Chipotle in adobo (Chef notes: Chipotle’s are dried, smoked jalapenos. This canned condiment is found in most grocery stores, also using the actual chile in the adobo will make a spicier sauce) Combine garlic, egg yolks, lemon juice, zest, salt and pepper in a bowl and slowly whisk in canna-oil until mixture becomes thick and emulsified. (any mayonnaise can also be added to stabilize the sauce) Drizzle aioli on your next taco and happy tokin’!
