A CHEMICAL COCKTAIL of contamination downstream
T
he short-term perspective of most polluters, albeit some unknowingly, combined with the pro-big business, anti-environmentalist climate have brought all of us to this advancing poisonous crisis today. The combination of sewage treatment plant discharge, landfill leaching, horticultural and agricultural run-off and pharmaceutical waste and drugs disposed of down the drain collectively end up in streams, rivers, lakes and ultimately the ocean. Most chemicals are designed to persist, to have long shelf life and to not degrade. Even recognized deadly pollutants, such as malathion or DDT of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring fame, hang around for decades. A sediment core study conducted in Sweden was able to identify the year that a common anti anxiety drug, oxazepam, was first prescribed three decades earlier as the drug had not degraded at all. Outdoor cannabis grows, both legal and underground, continue to contribute to the growing chemical contamination of our environment as portrayed in a recent article in The Atlantic. Illegal grow operations in Northern California are notorious for having no environmental regard and wantonly poisoning any animal threatening their crop and in turn passing the poison onto predators and downstream water supplies to unsuspecting thirsts, not to mention the impact on those humans working at such tainted grow sights. Indoor grows in Nevada have well-defined lists for chemicals allowed and those chemicals monitored for with defined tolerances; but that leaves hundreds of other chemicals that are not monitored for and since no one in Nevada or any other State is randomly monitoring the discharge from indoor grows, we really don’t know the environmental impact of cannabis grows. Regardless, we can rightly assume that the drug products made from the cannabis plant, other than unspecified adulterants, do not persist in the environment as humans metabolize and degrade phytocannabinoids. Environmental pollutants of concern, or at least those that are difficult to ignore, due to smell, sight or radioactivity have gotten all of the focus, while insidious silent-killers like organophosphate insecticides and antibiotics continue to destroy our ecosystems

by shifting population dynamics and poisoning all forms of life. Toxicity is cumulative but death is not the only outcome for insects, fish, birds and mammals ingesting poisonous cocktails of environmental pollutants. Insects feeding on polluted ponds, are in turn eaten by fish and birds that accumulate the toxicants in their tissues and display direct and indirect effects including antidepressant behavior seen in humans, loss of appetite and loss of reproductive fitness threatening survival of species. There is no EPA requirement to monitor pharmaceutical drugs in drinking water. This is partially because the prevailing thought was that chemicals were being diluted out in the water supply to a level that would not be metabolically relevant. Unfortunately, this has not been borne out and flushed pharmaceutical drugs have had a profound effect on the ecosystem. The highly-prescribed diabetic drug metformin, which is not metabolized by the human body and is excreted within 24 hours, is widely found in drinking water at concentrations that trigger male fish to develop female gonads and become infertile. You can draw your own conclusions about shifting human demographics. he EPA should be staffing up instead of handing out early retirement offers under the Trump administration. Today more than ever we need to build environmental awareness starting in grade school, we need to demand environmentally compliant chemicals that degrade and are tested for toxicity before mass distribution and application. Cannabis growers need to become good stewards of the environment and not fodder negative press through the reckless use of toxicants. Until society collectively demands the treatment and monitoring of drinking water for agricultural and pharmaceutical chemicals at the expense of the producers and users, be your own advocate and educate yourself about the profound impact of pesticides and drugs in the environment. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/03/ backcountry-drug-war/521352/ 1

\\ #702VCM \\ VEGAS CANNABIS EDUCATION LEGISLATION CERTIFICATION
FOUNDED 2007
By: Dr. Aseem Sappal Provost & Dean of the Faculty, Oaksterdam University
ationally: As of September 19, 2017, there are 44 states/territories that have some form of medical marijuana laws in place, 32 with comprehensive legislation and 29 whose laws have become operational, including the District of Columbia and Guam, as well as 8 States who have adult-use cannabis laws. 2016-2017 saw the addition of 8 new States with Cannabis Legislation, including Ohio, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, which are not yet operational. California’s Governor signed into law, SB94 (MAUCRSA) the Medical & Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation & Safety Act as well as the state assembly voting in June of 2017 to approve a bill barring CA Law Enforcement Officials from cooperating with Federal officials seeking to interfere with CA’s medical marijuana Laws. Nevada’s voters approved ‘Question 2,’ which allows adults who are not involved with the state's medical marijuana program to possess personal use quantities of cannabis, these took effect on January 1st, 2017. Internationally: Recently, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, signed a measure legalizing medical marijuana. Colorado & Washington state officials began to advise Canadian Committee on regulating adult-use cannabis while Aurora Cannabis Inc. announced that it has acquired the proper import/export permits and has shipped the first 50 kg of dried cannabis internationally to “Pedanios,” a whollyowned subsidiary of Germany’s growing cannabis market. Oaksterdam: 10 Year Anniversary Celebration & O’ Dammy Awards - 2017 marks OU’s official 10-year anniversary cultivating leaders and providing education for the cannabis industry. Unofficially it’s been over 20 years since the Oaksterdam community and its leaders provided a safe place to medicate and educate in the Bay Area. Oaksterdam University as well as the community, endured a lot over the past 20 years fighting for cannabis rights and freedoms. Activists, entrepreneurs, students, faculty and citizens have protested, progressed and now – years later – are starting to prosper in an industry we weren’t sure would exist. That is why it is so important that we celebrate this joint success this November 18th right here in the heart of downtown Oakland at the Scottish Rite Center directly overlooking beautiful Lake Merritt. We have a lot of people to thank and hope you will join us for this very historic day.
CHANGE STARTS HERE 10 Year Anniversary Oaksterdam University has been cultivating leaders since 2007, celebrating 10 years of quality training for the cannabis industry! At OU, you will learn from the very first dispensary owners in the United States, the first attorneys to ever take cannabis cases to the supreme court and authors of America’s 1st cannabis legislations—Proposition 215, Senate Bill 420 and more recently, California’s MCRSA & AUMA. BY MITCHELL S. BISSON, ESQ. MANAGING ATTORNEY CALLISTER LAW GROUP
The “Cannab-Esq.” Chronicles A Legal Perspective for Cannabis Consumers
Last month, I wrote about the problem tourists and others face when coming to fabulous Las Vegas to toke up and take advantage of Nevada's recreational marijuana laws - namely, that despite being able to legally purchase marijuana, there is almost nowhere for them to legally consume it. Well, it appears those at the State of Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau may have been reading Vegas Cannabis Magazine – Nevada’s #1 resource for every and anything cannabis related! First, who is the State of Nevada Legislative Counsel Bureau, you ask? Well, they are the State of Nevada’s nonpartisan legislative service agency that does the nitty-gritty work for the state’s legislators, such as Senator Tick Segerblom – the “Godfather” of legal cannabis in Nevada. They are responsible for writing and drafting the laws that are passed, researching the Nevada laws to give legislators guidance, and so forth. And what did they do? On September 10, 2017, in response to an earlier request by Senator Segerblom to research the issue of cannabis lounges, the Legislative Counsel Bureau issued an opinion stating that there is nothing in Nevada’s current laws prohibiting a business from operating a lounge/ facility, or special event, where cannabis can be consumed – so long as said business is licensed and regulated by the local city, county, town, etc. and the consumption is not taking place in view of the “public.” This means (in the Legislative Counsel Bureau’s opinion) it is up to the local jurisdictions – Clark County, Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson – to decided when they want to start giving the go-ahead to marijuana lounges and special events where marijuana can be legally consumed. However, don’t get too excited yet… Governor Sandoval, who is opposed to marijuana lounges, has already asked the Attorney General’s Office to issue their own opinion on the matter, which would hold much more legal weight than the Legislative Counsel Bureau’s opinion – which unfortunately has zero legal precedence. Likewise, on September 19, 2017 the Clark County Commissioners discussed the possibility of licensing marijuana lounges in unincorporated Clark County, but it was apparent the Commissioners were not ready to take any meaningful steps toward authorizing marijuana lounges and they punted any further discussion on the issue until at least December.
28
Many questions remain about how these businesses would operate, and I feel they should start being seriously discussed now. Legitimate concerns associated with marijuana lounges, such as the potential smell of marijuana emanating from the businesses, black market marijuana being used/sold in the businesses, and a possible rise in DUI’s, need to be faced head on and solution oriented discussions need to begin. While I appreciate the Governor’s and Commissioner's’ collective hesitation on the issue, the best way to ensure a smooth rollout of marijuana lounges is to start an open dialogue now. In the meantime, Las Vegas is going to continue to promote, sell, and distribute marijuana to out-of-towners while at the same time keeping it illegal for them to consume it anywhere. And yes, we all understand that there are ways to “get away” with smoking marijuana in public in Las Vegas – but that’s not the point! The point is that anyone that doesn’t have a private residence in Las Vegas is forced to break the law if they want to try out Vegas’s rendition of some Gorilla Glue #4 or in my opinion one of the best – Slymer by Matrix. This setup is not advantageous to Las Vegas’s tourism industry, and while it might not meet the legal definition of “entrapment,” I call “shenanigans!” All hope is not lost though. Maybe I’m just getting worked up. December isn’t that far off is it? With luck, by then the County Commissioners and other local jurisdictional leaders will be ready to really start breaking ground on what is sure to be the next big step in the cannabis industry here in Nevada and nationwide! Until then, stay safe, stay legal, and #StayWoke!

>>> A brownie's Brownie
P
icture it; Sunnyvale California, 1962, Ray Charles could be heard crooning I Can’t Stop Loving You, on the radio. The Four Seasons told us Big Girls Don’t Cry and pretty much everyone, everywhere was doing the Twist to Chubby Checker’s Let’s Twist Again (like we did last summer). Still, others were perfecting their technique at the WahWatusi. Though we were only seven years old, Mary and I busied ourselves lip-syncing to every Beatle song we knew. Wooden spoons snuck from the kitchen drawers or sticks found in the dirt, were always on hand for use as stage microphones. Life truly was simpler back then. One of our major concerns and a big deal to us was being first to get out onto the playground. Mary and I were the four-square champs, consistently eliminating the other players until she and I were the only two left in the over-sized, paint-faded boxes. After dusting our hands together in victory, we joyfully went mano a mano, to see which of us was on her game that recess. After a few weeks of beating all the other kids out at four-square, Mary and I moved on to tetherball. That took us a bit longer to master, but master it we did. By mid-October, Mary and I found ourselves desperately bored with the few options available to second graders. Walking home one afternoon, deliberately crunching the autumn leaves beneath our feet, Mary announced her intention to join a Brownie troop. “You want to join Brownies? What’s Brownies?” Mary was my best friend, my only friend really. And in my painfully shy and quiet demeanor, characteristic of skinny, homely girls, I had somehow given in to thoughts that Mary wanted more out of life than me. I was certain she yearned for prettier friends, friends with more money, friends who were as smart as she. This announcement of wanting to join something called Brownies brought my fears and insecurities to the forefront.

By: Deborah Costella
Sweetly, Mary explained to me that Brownies were Girl Scouts. Her teacher had handed out flyers and excitedly told her class about how fun scouting can be, doing activities such as arts, crafts, and helpful projects within the community. I asked Mary if being a Brownie meant learning to bake brownies. She didn’t recall any specifics about cooking but expanded on how much great it sounded to do such things with other girls our age. Though I felt socked in the stomach at the mention of “other girls our age,” I was intrigued. I had always wanted to learn how make brownies. I loved them. Not lifting my gaze from the tops of my black and white saddle shoes, noticing the heels of my bobby socks had once again slipped down inside my shoes, I quietly asked Mary if I could join too. Like the good friend she was, she reminded we were best friends and best friends do everything together. Feeling somewhat relieved, I took on a new worry as we turned the corner onto North Eden Avenue: will my parents let me join? Money was always a concern in my household even though both my parents worked. Mary’s mother stayed home. My parents did let me join. Surprisingly, my mother didn’t balk at the weekly dues or the cost of a uniform, sash, and beanie. She was just happy I wanted to do something that put me in the company of other little girls and involved activities she deemed more useful in life than miming Beatle songs. I stressed to mother my intention of learning how to bake brownies. Mother didn’t bake. After two months of weekly meetings, Mary and I knew how to disinfect every corner of our kitchens and bathrooms. We both earned our Good Housekeeping badges by having our mothers keep track and record the number and type of household chores we did for an entire month. To this day, I keep
the cleanest garage and closets in the land. We also learned to make spiral lanyards out of plastic lace and wallets. The wallets were made by “sewing” and hot-gluing together squares of colored felt. We were shown how to carefully use the hole punch along the perimeter then pull thick strands of contrasting yarn through the holes. The hot glue gun earned our respect when (Big Baby) Betsy got some of the hot, sticky glue all over the fingers of her left hand. She cried and fussed so much our leaders almost put a halt to our using the glue gun to adhere the pretty cut-outs we were applying to our wallets. Every adult in my family, who carried keys, was awarded one of my handmade lanyards while all my babysitters were given wallets. But to my chagrin, we had not yet learned to bake brownies. I was momentarily distracted from this let-down, when our troop leaders announced it was officially Cookie Season. Cookie sales for Girl Scouts (GS) go back as far as 1917. Setting financial goals, planning
VEGASCANNABISMAG.COM
and predicting labor hours, familiarizing oneself with reading and understanding demographics, and of course how to express herself courteously and succinctly are all part of the cookie experience. There was a short interruption of cookie sales in 1944 when eggs, milk, sugar, along with other staples, were in short supply due to World War II. But after the war, GS troops nation-wide were back selling those famous Sugar Cookies, Chocolate and Vanilla Cream Sandwiches, Shortbread and Cooky-Mints (now known as Thin Mints). The newest addition revealed during my stint as a Girl Scout, was the “Do-siDo” or Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie. After that afternoon’s meeting, all the girls in our troop clutched their order forms with attached manila envelopes. Our leaders instructed us to walk around our respective neighborhoods, dressed in uniform and explain how the selling of cookies supports GS in learning important activities and concepts, like cleaning, cooking, organizing and most essential, how to be helpful and productive young women. A bit contradictory to me, even at seven. I thought I understood the importance of learning how to manage a home and family and be a good wife. Yet, I was also being told I could get out into the big wide, world and not be chained to a house, husband and babies. I could be (almost) anything I wanted to be. Armed and ready, each little girl headed home eager to earn her proficiency badge for selling the most cookies. Instinctively knowing we were stronger together, Mary and I decided to pool our efforts and sell cookies as a twosome. It made sense; I had nearly three times more relatives living nearby than Mary. While her mother was active at their church and her membership in the Women of Foreign Lands group (she was Hungarian) gave her access to a great number of people outside our neighborhood. By week’s end co-leader/teacher Miss Stone made her announcement to the troop as to who among us was projected to earning the coveted proficiency badge. She was astounded to see both Mary and I had far more cash in our envelopes than the other girls. Swimming in kudos and cheers, Mary and I went home feeling like the Brownies of Wall Street, well on our way to skipping along streets lined with proficiency badges. By the time the weekend arrived, Mary
and I were pumped and ready. It was my mother, always up for a good competition, who innocently and off-handedly came up with the idea. She overheard us moaning about already working our way through the neighborhood saying we were running out of customers. Mother’s comment was something about lemonade stands and cookie stands. With this freshsupply of cookies, Mary and I realized we needed a better business plan. One that didn’t involve bugging people we had already visited and sold to, twice. “What about setting up a cookie stand? Kind of what your momma talked about,” suggested Mary. Believing Mary was not only prettier than I, but smarter, I immediately agreed to the idea. Running across the street from my house to hers, we charged into the kitchen where Mary’s mother was busy preparing some Hungarian dish. I smelled cabbage and ground lamb, tomatoes and something else unrecognizable. The dinner smells at my house included Kentucky Fried Chicken, Rice-A-Roni and pork chops with spaghetti. Though Mary and I were now on our third year of best-friendship, I had not grown accustomed to the heavy scents of foods constantly cooking in her house. Trying my best not to breathe too deeply, I stood by, chiming in only when appropriate, as Mary proceeded to explain our wonderful idea. She finished by asking her mother if we could use the card table her parents unfolded every Wednesday night for their pinochle game with their grownup friends. Mary then added, without hesitation, that her mother, please drive us to the shopping center across the street so we could sell to new customers. Mary was the apple of her mother’s eye. No was a word she rarely heard. The next morning, telling my parents how Mary’s mother gave us permission to sell in front of the grocery store and how many boxes of cookies we would be selling; it only made sense that I too be given permission: which I was. From nine o’clock in the morning until noon that day, Mary and I had sold every box of cookies issued to us by our scout leaders. By the time the Girl Scout Cookie Selling Season ended, Mary and I had not only earned our proficiency badges for sales, we were mentioned in the Girl Scouts of America Newsletter as the top salesgirls in California! We were thrilled. My flat-chest was so full of pride, it practically exploded. We were
\\ #702VCM \\ VEGAS CANNABIS honored in a special ceremony before our families and other troop members. Weeks later our leaders began preparing us for outdoor activities for the coming spring. We would be making “Sit-upons” so that we could sit comfortably on the ground as we ventured into the realm of plants, flowers and nature. Ordinarily this would have made me quite excited. My love of flowers and birds has been with me for as long as I can remember. However, I couldn’t keep my feelings inside any longer. I lamented to Mary that we still had not been taught to bake brownies. Adamant that Brownies should know how to bake brownies, I pitched my argument to Mary that Beanie-Weenies and S’mores didn’t constitute real baking in my mind. She urged me to bring it up to our leaders, but I was too shy and my stomach couldn’t take asserting myself. Once again Mary came to the rescue, offering her mother as our official brownie-baking teacher. Initially I was leery. Worried Mrs. Berg’s brownie recipe would include some ingredients unfamiliar to the brownies I enjoyed from the nearby bakery. But Mary assured me, her mother could cook anything. Mary’s mother did teach us how to make brownies. The best I’d ever tasted; chewy, chocolaty and moist. Far better than the bakery’s, and they were so easy. I was genuinely astonished. Almost every Sunday following, after begging my mother to buy the ingredients needed, I continued making batch after batch until I had perfected my brownie baking technique. Now knowing inserting a toothpick for doneness didn’t work for brownies the way it did for cakes. So it was, on a warm, Sunday morning in late spring, Mary and I found ourselves complaining about our perpetual state of not having any money. B & J’s Market across the street was our favourite hangout. We knew most the cashiers and even the manager. All had been customers of our Girl Scout cookie sales. B & J’s was the place we’d go to buy penny candy or Cracker Jack before walking to the Little League baseball park to watch teams we didn’t know, play a game we didn’t understand. It had been weeks since we’d sunk our teeth into a Sugar Daddy or chewed a wad of Bazooka Bubble Gum. I ached for a Black Cow or better, an Abba Zabba. Our parents had said no to every one of our requests for money. We searched with zeal in the cushions of both sofas in both
33
households. Mary went so far as to creep into her parents’ bedroom and wriggled her fingers into the pockets of her father’s trousers looking for loose change. Not even the payphone next-door to B & J’s held any change in the small slot. Then Mary, the genius between us, re-visited that wonderful idea. We scurried through our respective kitchens, gathering all the ingredients needed to bake brownies. Using Mary’s kitchen, but not her mother as I had memorized my recipe, we prepared two dozen. We didn’t use the card table this time but we did make a sign. We sold every one of those brownies! Disbelieving how much money jingled in our sweaty little hands we went straight into the market and shopped to our heart's’ content. The following Saturday we did it again, this time making three dozen brownies. Profits were so good we shared with our siblings so they could go buy candy. On the third Saturday, I was merrily chirping away with a prospective customer about how delicious our brownies tasted when we both heard the voice: “Mary, Deborah, is that you?” The voice sounded familiar the tone was less than warm and friendly. It was Miss Stone. She loomed over us like a gigantic shadow as though we were doing something wrong then flatly asked us what we thought we were doing. “Ummm, we’re selling brownies,” answered Mary. “I can see that. And you’re wearing your Brownie uniforms.” Miss Stone’s tone was still clipped and her eyes narrowed. I had never seen this look on her before. “Well of course we are,” affirmed Mary. How she could’ve sounded so calm was beyond me. I was shaking in my flip-flops. “We’re Brownies and we’re selling brownies, so we have to wear our Brownie uniforms.” Just then a customer made their way over and purchased four brownies. My hands trembled as I did my best to hurriedly wrap each chocolate treat in wax paper and take the twenty cents. “Hope this goes to good use for the Brownies,” the customer said as he walked away. Our handwritten sign read: Help Your Local Brownies! Buy Homemade Brownies Made by Two REAL Brownies!!! “Do you girls know what you’re doing? Do your parents know what you’re doing?” Now, Miss Stone sounded angry. Mary and I looked at one another. Finally I spoke, “Yes,” I replied meekly. That was the best I could do. Miss Stone proceeded to ask if our parents knew what we were really doing. That we were misleading and using people, that we were taking their money under false pretenses. Neither Mary nor I were quite sure what false pretense meant exactly, but we sensed we were in trouble. After explaining in detail how we were making people happy with our delicious brownies and weren’t keeping all the money, some of it we donated (we didn’t tell to whom). Still, Miss Stone insisted we close shop immediately. After giving Miss Stone our earnings for the day to apply to our troop’s field trip fund we walked home disappointed but strangely proud. The lesson was learned and certainly no one can say we weren’t industrious and entrepreneurial. We were business women and we knew it. My brownie endeavors didn’t end there. The healing benefits of cacao polyphenols as antioxidants, its ability to lower cholesterol and the production of those happy hormones, serotonin only enhance the joy of eating one (or two). Cosmic Muffin’s A Brownie’s Brownies Ingredients:
8 Tbsp unsalted canna-butter - melted 1 1/3 cup granulated sugar ¾ cup good quality unsweetened dark cocoa powder 1 tsp espresso powder 1/8 tsp salt 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 2 whole eggs 1/8 tsp baking powder ½ cup chopped nuts or dark chocolate chips + some for garnish if desired
Process:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, and cocoa powder, with a whisk. Add vanilla bean paste and espresso powder. Add eggs, one at a time, stirring between additions. Gently fold in, salt, flour and baking powder. If desired add nuts. Pour batter into a well greased and floured, 8 x 8 square baking pan. Bake for 30-40 minutes until firm in center. Inserted toothpick won’t come out clean when done. Allow brownies to cool completely before cutting into individual squares. Makes 10 - 12 servings
curative power of cannabis be ignored. Put the two together and you get a one-two-punch of medicine that will please, penetrate and perform. After years of honing my skill to perfect Mrs. Berg’s original brownie recipe I’ve adapted and combined the yummy taste of those brownies Mary and I sold, while incorporating the healing benefits of cannabis. I’m not sure what Miss Stone would say, but Mrs. Berg would be ecstatic! Multi-faceted in her talents and interests, Deborah L. Costella has enjoyed expressing her creativity as a dancer, teacher, chef and writer, both in the Northern California Bay Area and Las Vegas Nevada. She has authored two cookbooks and has written numerous articles and newsletters for local publications in the Las Vegas Valley, with a focus on cooking. Deborah currently teaches cooking classes at Sur La Table and Cozymeal, as well as private in-home classes. She also provides personal chef services in both Las Vegas and the San Francisco Bay Area. She has yet another book in the works.

TALES FROM THE CRIP:
a patient's perspective
how to be a successful marijuna user By Peter Jay
I’ve used marijuana, both medically and recreationally, for most of my adult life. I’m not wild about Mr. Booze, as twenty years of tending bar taught me that nice people will do stupid shit when they are drunk. Cocaine is expensive (though it does smell good), and any drug named for randomly-grouped letters will doubtlessly result in heartbreak. Fuzzy, fuzzy heartbreak.
my last name is neither Cuban, Gates nor Dogg, so maintaining a budget is an important part of My World. "
During a recent visit to local medical dispensary The Source, I was gob-smacked (as I tend to be) by the sheer volume of marijuana products available to me. I like to consider myself well educated when it comes to matters marijuana-related, but even an old sweat like me can feel quickly overwhelmed when trying to choose something tasty from such a vast array of product. Be you virgin or veteran, the world of marijuana has changed, dude! The days of “copping a sack” from some shaky-looking burnout (usually named “Ted” or “Bill”) are well over, at least for those of us in Nevada, California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and (I’m told) North Korea. So really, all that any of us need to do in order to access the Brave New World of pleasure and relaxation is to just jump right in and start smoking/vaping/ eating/suppository-ing whatever we can get our hands on …because reckless abandon turns out SO well SO often for SO many people! The secret to being a successful marijuana user, Dear Reader, is the same as the secret to building a successful house. “But Pete, I’m neither a carpenter nor architect—my dog built his own house just to spite me!” Well, hateful dog notwithstanding, if you WERE to build a house, how might you proceed? Would you grab some lumber and just start nailing shit together and hope that the result looked… house-y? THAT will go over well with your mother-in-law, who will proceed to wonder aloud why you cannot provide a decent home for her grandbabies—you don’t need to hear that bullshit, believe me. Therefore, the plan is…to make A Plan! Failing to plan is planning to fail, after all, and we can’t have that—amateur hour ended at 6. You have some decisions to make, Dear Reader, and
36

making those decisions before your dispensary visit will make a freaking joyful experience even better AND get you the most bang for your buck. The PITY is that there exists no such tool that would handle the heavy lifting which INVARIABLY accompanies this type of planning…some kind of INTERconnected NETwork where we could do personal marijuana research while looking at naked pictures of Bea Arthur and Abe Vigoda (but not them together—that’d be weird). Much like the journey of 1,000 miles beginning with but a single step, you should allow your circumstance to dictate your Plan. Are you a medical patient looking for some class of symptom relief? Are you a veteran of the marijuana wars, or are you a recent inductee to the Green Army? Importantly, what is your budget? Just to get you started, here are a few basic options to consider: Indica/Sativa/Hybrid/CBD: Indica will stall you out, sativa will relax and stimulate you (it can also FREAK YOU OUT if you over-imbibe), and hybrid tries (TRIES!) to play God and create the marijuana Master Race. Medically, indica helps with muscle spasms and insomnia, sativa with anxiety and appetite stimulation, and CBD is a POTENT anti-inflammatory compound. Perhaps we’ll discuss CBD further in a future article, as its implications are absolutely staggering. Flower/Concentrates/Edibles: Flower generally requires less equipment for consumption than do concentrates, but concentrates create less odor and attention when being consumed. Edibles are great if you are patient enough to wait for them to kick in (one to two hours), but the variables involved in the digestive process alone make edibles too complicated for a dumbass like me to dose appropriately. What is my process when I need to reload? I use two different websites to frame my trip to market. Weedmaps tells me what products are held by which local dispensaries and what prices I can expect to pay; it is like Yelp for marijuana dispensaries, offering reviews, specials and store policies. Leafly is all about consumer marijuana information, offering everything from strain information, new product reviews, medical information… suffice it to say that this is among my top-five favorite websites. When you enter your favorite dispensary with a shopping list already prepared, you are much less likely to overspend or under-purchase—my last name is neither Cuban, Gates nor Dogg, so maintaining a budget is an important part of My World. Different dispensaries offer reward programs, pre-ordering options and whatnot, so AGAIN, do your homework before you set out. One last thought: while it IS legal to possess and consume marijuana in some states, please don’t be a butthole about it. Don’t drive around passing da blunt, don’t leave it where your kids can get into it. If you have legal marijuana, then you are at least 21 years old and are hopefully smart enough to avoid jamming yourself and/or others up. Put another way: DUDE! DON’T FUCK THIS UP FOR US! #FuckMS

MEDICAL PATIENTS MATTER As the weather starts to cool down, I stay hot! A few things that have been sticking in my craw lately? Now that we have recreational use and everyone over 21 can buy and consume, can we get rid of the ridiculous conceal carry provisions in the medical marijuana program? Anyone can go buy all the booze they want and be hopped up on all kinds of prescription medications and still have a concealed carry permit but medical marijuana cardholders who are going about everything above the letter of the law and could probably use the protection more than anyone, can't! How about the whole not being allowed to ride amusement park rides? Remember that? Yeah, still on the books. Medical marijuana patients are still treated like some kinda monkey that has to dance for their treats. Only, our "treats" are our medicine that we use to get through the day. Yes, medical patients get to pay less in taxes, but in the end, we are treated the same as recreational users. We still have to deal with the shortages, cultivators pulling the supply and demand pricing, the lines and wait times, not being allowed to use anywhere but in our own homes. Why should we have to have have to deal with any of this after the money we give the state? I've paid quite a bit of money, for many years now to have the "right" to be a patient. I'm seeing people who have been in the medical program longer than me drop out because it's just easier to buy it recreationally and that's a damn shame. The medical program is what got us to recreational use. Don't let it slip away. I personally wish more people who use cannabis on a regular basis would get their cards. The, maybe we can be taken as serious as a lot of the problems people are finding relief from. Recreational use is great, but we really need to do something about the rules that apply to the medical program. I
know I've said this before but, we need to get rid of the stigma and judgement of cannabis. We need everyone to realize just how much this plant is changing lives FOR THE BETTER! With the amount of money the state is getting from us through taxes and charges for cards you'd think they would take us a little more serious. And, while I have the space and means, let me remind anyone that is trying to get into this business what I've said before, educate yourself. It's amazing to me the amount of people with little to no knowledge of concentrates, strains, terpenes, and diseases that would even apply for these jobs. You wouldn't apply to be a bartender without knowing how to make drinks, you wouldn't apply to be a welder without knowing how to weld. Why would you apply to do this without a basic knowledge of cannabis? The information is out there. Just take the time and learn it. Again, giving people the wrong medicine is dangerous. This is NOT just selling pot like the old days. This goes for the owners and managers of dispensaries too. Quit hiring people that don't know what they are doing. You are only hurting your customers. These people come to us a lot of times because they are in pain or worse. We have a very real responsibility to help them. Having people in place that give misinformation only harms the fact that we CAN ease people's suffering and make their lives better through cannabis use. Please, I'm begging you, take hiring and customer interaction more seriously and you'll see the difference as the customers spread the word on their own. If something works to ease my pain and make my day better, I want EVERYONE to know. Making sure people get what they need through informed decisions from a knowledgeable bis the best way of letting the world know what we can do. And again, to paraphrase Jack Herer, "I don't know if cannabis will save the world, but it's the only thing that can!

TOKIN' WITH THE INFAMOUS: CHRIS CANTORE BY HOPPER THE CHRONISSEUR speak in America now, that helped motivate me, because I realized that my peers, even those who don’t use, they support the movement. That made it easier to put myself out there. It also had to do with my own discoveries, as far as the medicinal value that I get from it and realizing later in life that I was in fact, receiving tremendous medicinal values from it.
Hopper: We’ve
smoked out so many times, especially back when I had my collective, but you always kept it out of the public eye.
It’s always a win for the cannabis community when a high profile media personality comes out, not only in favor of, but admission to personal cannabis use. My long-time friend and well known media personality, Chris Cantore, is a perfect example of this. He’s been on the radio, tv, and in print since the early 90s. I’ve always known he used cannabis, but being under the thumb of corporate and public scrutiny, he had to hide it from a lot of people. Now blazing his own path with YEW, a multimedia platform focusing on Southern California lifestyle, he is finally free to use his voice to further the cause of cannabis, both medicinal and recreational.
Hopper: Hey brother, I’m
stoked for you to tell VCM readers about yourself and your history in media.
Cantore: I’ve been working in media in Southern California
44
since I got out of college at San Diego State in the early 90s. I’ve worked in radio, tv, print, online, every aspect of lifestyle multimedia, with an emphasis on Southern California lifestyle and alternative music.
Hopper: You were at Clear Channel forever. You had the morning show on 91X, everybody listened.
Cantore: I was at 91X for
11 years, which is to my knowledge, the longest run of any morning personality in 91X’s history. That’s probably my biggest claim, is people knowing me from there.
Hopper: You’ve stayed away from publicly talking about your personal cannabis use until now. Why now?
Cantore: For me, it really
had to do with the fact that, certainly the law and how it’s become part of our everyday
Cantore: I would,
and that was attached to public perception and me not being confident that the public understood that there’s more to this than a bunch of stoners. Once I identified that for myself, honestly man, it was a lot easier to come forward. For me personally, I’ve battled tremendous anxiety and OCD. It’s something I’ve battled since I was a kid. For years, I was on pharmaceuticals, and that came at a cost. They caused me to gain weight, it caused sexual dysfunction, they would make my brain spin out of control if I was going off the meds. Once I finally got off them, I filled that void with cannabis, which is why it’s been easier to talk about it. I can’t stand pharmaceuticals, I’ve always had a problem with them, and cannabis fills that need.
Hopper: I know you’ve
smoked out with some major stars, tell us about those experiences.
Cantore: Well, there are a few. I love talking about smokin’ out with The Black Crowes, they were just so beautiful and pure. They were just starting, I was just starting, and the only thing we had in common was that we smoked weed. In a lot of cases, weed, especially in the music industry, and my experiences in it, was always the thing that brought us together. It was like, okay everything’s off the table and everything’s cool, whereas everything else in the music industry can be so pretentious and superficial…once the weed came out, all of that shit went completely away. Another story is Coolio. I remember smoking with Coolio.
Hopper: How was that? Cantore: It was crazy, man.
That is a gentleman who loves his weed! Pauly Shore, also. Pauly and I smoked out a few times when he lived in San Diego.
Hopper: I smoked with
Pauly. He had Jay, from Jay and Silent Bob with him. He looked at my weed and said he couldn’t smoke it because he could only smoke dirt weed.
Cantore: Now that’s funny!
Yeah, Pauly was fun to smoke with, but Coolio sticks out the most because it was the biggest joint I’d ever seen in my life. I thought those joints only existed in rap videos, not out in the wild. I saw one and consumed one with Coolio, which was funny as hell. I have tons of other stories, but I don’t know if these people are open about their cannabis use, so I’d rather be respectful of their privacy.
Hopper: I totally understand
and respect that. You’ve told me the names, and let me just say that they are massive! Anyway, we’re here smokin’
Cantore: I’m all about Hybrids, so if I can find a good Cookies or Gorilla Glue strain, I’m stoked because I need the indica to help my anxiety, and then being a creative person, I do rely on the sativa for inspiration. That’s why I always try to find a really solid hybrid strain.
Hopper: Changing directions a bit, let’s talk about your new media venture, YEW!.
Cantore: Yeah, the whole
Hopper: All the best life has
that I helped open the Hard Rock Hotel back in the day. I was part of the infrastructure that promoted bringing Southern California to Vegas, to experience the lifestyle. I was part of Vegas when it went from catering to the blue hairs, to catering to the kids and nightlife.
Hopper: Any shout outs before we roll out?
Cantore: I’d like to shout out
both the San Diego and Las Vegas communities. Big thanks to Sour for hosting us here in the compound. Thanks to Vegas Cannabis Magazine, and of course thank you, Hopper. Also, my friends and family who have been with me since the beginning; and to the brands, operations, and players who are carving their way in the cannabis industry. thing on the YEW tip is, after working in traditional media for so long, and watching that model fail so tremendously, yet they’re still not figuring it out, it drove me mad to the point where I figured if I was going to stay in media, the only way to coexist would be to do my own thing. I think right now the climate for entrepreneurs is the most prime it’s ever been, which is why I’m jumping head first into creating YEW, which is a surf term or a skate term that you’ll hear in a line-up, and at skate parks. PRODUCTS MEDIZIN OGKB 2.0
Another fire OG strain from Medizin, this grass is stronger than most of the rest. It may actually be the best. Check out the lab test, 30% THC is what I got in my chest, and my head is scrambled and all messed up. The nugs are a beautiful orange and green, but smell dark purple and mean. The trichs are poppin’ with amber glitter. If you're a lightweight, this is a real one-hitter-quitter. If you smoke like I do, no need to worry about this indica slowing you down. Wake and bake and stroll into town. What a delightful outlook on shit this gave me. This is #THEONE today that saved me! THC- 30.149% Limonene- 5.3 mg/g Myrcene- 2.58 mg/g Linalool- 1.7 mg/g
MEDIZIN SFV OG
This OG from San Fernando Valley is cruising right up my alley, creating a local rally around an indica with a great big body high and an extremely psychedelic mental experience. Your perception of things may morph and change, as you are attempting to wrap your mind around some randomness. Once it peaks, your vision will lag, and you should see trails, showing you everything on a visual delay. Heavy on the gas, this has that much desired Kushy OG taste. Put the pedal to the metal, and drive this one home. With lightning quick reactions, I break traffic into fractions. Go get your satisfaction. THC- 27.3% Myrcene- 3.57 mg/g Limonene- 2.33 mg/g Terpinene- 1.97 mg/g Caryophyllene- 1.14 mg/g
PRIME Green Crack
Aweeee yeah! This flower has 100% of my attention. I rolled one up, and took a couple hits, and I'm lit! This is about as trippy as shit gets. I've got all my wits, and I feel as alive as I ever have. This herb definitely gives me a competitive advantage over anyone who thinks they compete with us. Without an herb like this, we would be boring and idle. But Fire this up, and boy do I feel creative. I'm elated and positive, and could give 2 shits about anyone in my way today. I could easily hurdle any obstacle today. It is Sunday, and NFL is about to kick off week 4. I'm out the door! THC- 24.0% Caryophyllene- 3.102 mg/g
Terpinolene- 3.586 mg/g Humulene- 1.391 mg/g
KABUNKY Laughing Laughlin
Looking at those two words together, I'm wondering if I should start pronouncing each with the others “au” sound. I'm Loffing out Lodd. No, hee hee. The terps aren’t too loud on paper, but get a whiff. 23% THC, yee haw, you'll want to get it in your lungs. No need to drive to Laughlin, get a ride to Nevada Medical Marijuana right here in Henderson. THC- 23.09% Myrcene- 0.64 mg/g Limonene- 0.58 mg/g
PRIME
Gelato Glue What a hearty plant we are smokin’ on today! This flower smells sweet and fruity, and tastes like dessert. At almost 30% THC, this lady is as powerful as a sativa gets. Low myrcene content means you won't get groggy from smoking it. Consumers with a tendency to have panic attacks should definitely proceed with caution. The resin covering these buds is extremely impressive. Prime nugs are perfectly cured with consistency. Good shit. THC- 31.0% Caryophyllene- 3.14 mg/g Limonene- 2.266 mg/g Linalool- 2.924 mg/g

Good evening, Mr. Chong. Where will we be headed tonight?

Would you like to visit your usual Nevada dispensary, sir?
Ya, let’s go to Shango maan. Then, find us a movie on Fandango if you can. Hey, whaat song is that playing? Turn it up a notch, would ya please.
As you wish, this is a classical piece written by Johann Sebastian Bach. I like it. It mellows me out.
You are the most mellow person I know, Mr. Chong. Thanks man, you’re pretty right on too.
We are here at Shango, should I call the front desk?
It’s alright, man. I’m just gonna walk in, I already know what I want. My choice is Pink Frost cause it smells fantastic, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over my body.
You did say it tastes like ice cold lemonade on a sweltering Vegas afternoon.
Lemonade sounds delicious. You think you could grab me a lemonade while I’m getting some more weed, man?
Whatever you request, Mr. Chong. Anything else?
Ya, could you please pick up this month’s issue of Vegas Cannabis Magazine for me? The dispensaries are always running out.
At your service. See you in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. Would you like to catch a movie, next? Yeah maan, I’ll pull up Fandango while I’m in Shango.

Holy grape shit! Look at that picture. Now, look at those numbers. No, there aren’t any typos or misprints. Stand up from your seat and please, clap your fuckin’ hands. Go on do it! This is worth a standing ovation from 30,000 Vegas Cannabis lovers. These numbers hover over the Cannabis Book of World Records laughing at the former champs. Put this up on stage, next to any High Times Cannabis Cup and it might piss wild grape juice in it. It looks, smells, tastes, smokes, and feels like a boss. I hit this beast and it fired back with a right cross, then grabbed the HT Cup and drank its own grape juice. There’s no shame in Shango’s game. Grape Scott! THC- 33.2%

MATRIX Sherbet CBD
MATRIX Super Sour Diesel
Alright, today is a new day, and I've been anticipating evaluating this on empty lungs. I don't smoke much flower for the CBD effects. Don't lie and act like you do. It looks beautiful and smells like it would get me high. 20 minutes later, I feel alert and cognitive, ready to get back on the computer and crunch these files. I do still feel my nagging knee pain, but it doesn't annoy me as much. My mind is somewhere else. One more thing, it's about time a brand uses the real word “Sherbet”. The word “Sherbert” annoys me. CBD- 14.3% THC- 0.01% Myrcene- 2.18 mg/g Limonene- 0.33 mg/g Caryophyllene-0.23 mg/g Humulene- 0.09 mg/g
Rev up your engines, and focus your attention on Super Sour Diesel. It’s a cross between a Super Monster Truck and a Peterbuilt. Smoke it and watch the ratings meter tilt. Toke 4 straight bong rips to the head and feel how I felt. Squeeze on these nugs and get a whiff of this sweet pepper gas hybrid. SSD is one of Matrix’s best strains of cannabis. You can’t go wrong choosing this, no matter what kind of weed you normally prefer. It suits everyone because you get a little sink-eye effect, yet it offers up a creatively trippy edge. There is a fair amount of THC in this off-road adventure, so expect a total head change. Just don’t worry about the panic attacks, because 2.53 mg/g of caryophyllene will settle you down plenty, delivering a tranquil relaxation to even the most wound-up individuals. THC- 24.5% Limonene- 5.75 mg/g Myrcene- 4,75 mg/g Caryophyllene- 2.53 mg/g
MATRIX Jane Snow
Mmm, wait up. This might be Matrix’s best flower, at least as far as what I’m looking for in a strain. Over 22% THC has my attention, but the 9.2 mg/g of myrcene is absolutely beautiful, because it makes the THC feel like 30%. The packaging says hybrid, but you can consider this an indica for sure. Myrcene will help you relax after a difficult day at work. Twist this up into a spliff, and smooch on that. And yo, if you are susceptible to getting anxiety from weed, THIS IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU. The terpenes associated with calming stress and anxiolytics are miniscule or non-existent. But if you are an herbivore, connoisseur, pot snob, or any other made up shit about how much weed you smoke, hit this shit, and learn everything I just learned about Jane Snow. Get up! Let’s go! THC- 22.2% Humulene- 0.25 mg/g
Myrcene- 9.2 mg/g Limonene- 1.7 mg/g Caryophyllene- 0.36 mg/g
REDWOOD Stacked Deck PreRolls
Redwood has been taking a Las Vegas approach to their packaging and marketing with the recent launch of Stacked Decks. They might look like a box of playing cards at first glance. But take a closer look, and smile at what they put together for us. If you don't like this novelty, get the heck out of Vegas. You don't belong here. Available in four different suits:
DIAMONDS - Indica - Herijuana 20.794% THC CLUBS - Hybrid - Cannalope Kush 22% THC HEARTS - Sativa - Sour Diesel 26.387% THC SPADES - Mixture of All 3 cuts
You'd better get out there and hunt these down, before it's too late. Don't even think about eyeballin’ my boxes. I’ll be displaying them from now until the end of days. I bet Redwood offers real playing cards in the same boxes next. Then after that, a sponsorship at the WSOP. I also wanted to tip off our readers about something huge that Redwood is doing. These Stacked Decks are just the tip of the iceberg. They have some new flower strains coming soon, and the team is sampling and analyzing many phenotypes new to Nevada. They have a tough decision narrowing down the final garden cuts. I saw what they're working’ with.
>>>THC • CBD • CBN MEDIZIN Irene Shatter GIDDY UP Kosher Kush Live Resin Shatter
MEDIZIN Air Bud Shatter
This super-shiny shatter is pretty piney. I evaporated this volatile oil at a perfect temperature, capping my banger, making a tiny convection oven. This substance turned into an explosive vapor in which I deeply inhaled and thoroughly enjoyed as I gambled on caryophyllene to reduce my stress. That was a safe, calculated bet. Thanks Giddy. I enjoyed the texture of this easy-to-handle product. It started as a shatter, then became a little more sugary as the days passed. This sativa dominant hash is an all day delight. Enjoy the flight. Who doesn't remember the Disney movie star Air Bud? He was a cape-wearing, basketball playing, canine superhero. Ha, ha, now here I am, wearing a blue cape, playin’ “dabsketball” with my buddy, taking shots filling up our lungs with Medizin’s Air Bud Shatter. Just kiss that glass with this medicine, and score a grip of points. It was tasty, and it will have you hustling up and down banging the dispensary boards looking’ for random pick-up games. You'll be flying high, dunking into the banger in no time. I'm not really wearing the cape though unless I get a cameo in the next Air Bud motion picture. KABUNKY Skywalker OG Premium Dry Sift Rosin Puck
This cola colored butane extract is a stable, yet spinnable substance. It's more of a pull type shatter than a snappy one. A couple tokes on a the rig made me a happy man. No joke, although we should joke as much as we can, and hold everyone's hand. Was this Medizin’s plan? To disseminate a line-up of beautiful lady strains. They typically have extremely fair prices, even for recreational consumers. Their wax is never disappointing, even for those with high expectations. They're Big Pimpin’. Irene is alpha masculine, tastes woodsy and contains enough myrcene to comfort pain so you stop whimpering. THC- 69.7% Caryophyllene- 2.64 mg/g Limonene- 1.27 mg/g Linalool- 0.96 mg/g
It looked more delectable in the glass container, but I like taking pictures of the actual product without packaging so our readers can see what each product actually looks like. The packaging is impressive sometimes, but let’s be straight with ourselves, it's the product that matters most. This is one of the best dabbable concentrates on the market right now. No butane used to bang these out, so rest assured, it's also one of the purest forms of hash available. It tastes gassy like an OG should, and walk through miles of snow uphill, for this, I would. It's fuckin so good! My kind of head change. Twist shit up! THC- 73.% Humulene- 3.3 mg/g Linalool- 2 mg/g

Fill up your tank with this sugary gas, and it will spank your ass. 81.7% THC is fine for me. I don't know about you, but this is what I like to do. Grab the torch, and give it a click. Pick up whichever rig is closest, and wait for it to cool a lil bit. When the temp is perfect, drop in some TERPX Bio Diesel Live Budder and cap that nail to get the vapor in your lungs. Here's another extremely impressive terpene and cannabinoid profile. Over 80% is heaven-sent and will get you bent. 1% caryophyllene reduces drama from the scene, and there is enough myrcene to make you lean. So serene, no need to be mean. My blood is green. TERPX Clementine Live Resin
VADER Afghani Skunk Crumble
Clementine is a magnificent material to dab. It smells like a cylinder of orange juice concentrate from the frozen food section. For those who love the naval wax flavors, this is a must-try. The amount of terpinolene on the lab report is unheard of, and it is great at battling cancer. Terpinolene is antiproliferative, stopping the growth of tumors. Ingest it for best results, and to allow it to work on a cellular level. I feel strong like Roberto Clemente from this Clementine. THC- 83.83% CBD- 5.213% Terpinolene- 21.14 mg/g Myrcene- 3.313 mg/g Caryophyllene- 2.863 mg/g
Analyzing the lab results prior to ripping my dabs is pretty common around here. I like to predict what I will feel, mostly based on each terpene profile, then see how my hypothesis turned out. I predict a deep-breathing sedation, with some concrete under my shoes and ass. Lets dab it up! What we've got here is a successful evaluation and prediction. I breathe great from the a-pinene. Definitely a nightcap for most cannabis lovers, having true indica properties. Around 5.0 mg/g is the point where the myrcene takes over, creating an appetite for destruction. Do you know where you are? You're in Vader’s hands, baby. It's gonna sit you down, ugh. THC- 71.9% Myrcene- 5.19 mg/g a-Pinene- 4.62 mg/g b-Pinene- 2.76 mg/g

Close your eyes when you hit this one, and imagine yourself at the beach. Feel the sand in between your toes as you search for a nice spot to lay out your towel. Time for a dab. It tastes so good, but I had a hard time disassociating what I tasted with the familiar fragrance of suntan lotion. Once you get past that, you’ll be going back in for another dab, and another, and another, and so on. Fuckin’ loved this glass filled syringe. Make sure you pull off the plastic cap from the syringe tip before you touch that perfect temp banger, or you might vaporize plastic. This distillate is fantastic. This is strong shit! It's the first vape cartridge that I hit just one time, and got dizzy. Granted, I was already groggy and nodding-off in my bed when I hit it, but it did finish me off. I had a little sneeze that never came out; usually caryophyllene makes me sneeze a bit. Cool packaging and a great debut product.

AMA Banana Pie Distillate
My oh my! Who’s ready to try a slice of this Banana Cream Pie? I can't believe I'm not dabbing banana cream filling. It smells and tastes like dessert, undoubtedly. It's a multi-purpose distillate that Vader is roto-evaporating in their Vegas bakery. This can be eaten or used as a topical, but take it from me, it's best consumed as a dab. Take a stab at it. What are you laughing at? I just see THC, and another slice of pie for me. THC- 71.6%
I've never seen an ingestible Extracted Cannabis Oil (ECO: same as RSO) abundant in so many terpenes. Shit, 2.5% caryophyllene is awesome. DIPSTICK VAPES DiPPER™ By: Dustin Amato of Official Genius
This electronic vape pen works like a nectar collector for hitting fresh concentrates straight out of the container or from a silicone pad. The latest version has all new attachment options that allow you to easily attach a tank too. I have personally tested this product in New York, LA and Miami at the Big Industry shows and countless cannabis cups where our paths have crossed, and this pen never disappoints, nor did the wax we were sampling. The only thing better than this pen is their business acumen, successfully shutting down multiple knock off artists in China, there truly is no other pen on the market like it. I have reviewed many battery powered wax pens as free samples, but this is one I would actually purchase if I was on the road and needed a pen. dipstickvapes.com

COPD and Cannabis
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> By Jennifer Shepherd, RN Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) is used to describe progressive lung disorders: chronic bronchitis, emphysema, refractory (nonreversible) asthma, and some forms of bronchiectasis. The main characteristics are breathlessness and coughing, as well as tightness in the chest and wheezing. Many people mistake this symptom as just aging, and this disease may go untreated and progress over years without diagnoses. Estimated to affect over 30 million people a year with about half estimated at being undiagnosed and going untreated. Let’s talk about the lungs! Many of us go throughout our day not even taking into consideration what it's really like to breathe. I have been consciously trying to take deeper breaths and really get into the base of my lungs. Why? Because important gas exchange happens at the base of the lungs. When we breathe, our body intakes oxygen, and as we exhale, we remove carbon dioxide (CO2) that has been created by our bodies. So
66
when we inhale oxygen, deposits are made to blood cells, and as this oxygen circulates in the blood, our cells exchange it for CO2, a waste product that is expelled when we exhale. Think of oxygen as fuel for each one of your cells. Without cells getting the oxygen they require, it leads to cell death. How can cannabis assist in relief from COPD you ask? Many cannabinoids have been found to expand bronchioles so that it’s easier to breath. This is called bronchodilation, and bronchodilators are used to decrease the resistance in the respiratory airway and increase airflow to the lungs. The cannabinoid delta-9 THC and terpenes a-pinene, limonene, and linalool, are known to have bronchodilation effects. Persons with COPD often produce large amounts of mucus. This of course impairs the breathing pathway. Decongestants relieve congestion by reducing swelling, inflammation, and mucus formation. Terpenes limonene, linalool, camphene, and isopulegol have been shown to assist with decongestant properties. Expectorant-like properties
found in cannabis assist in expelling the secretion of sputum in the air passages and can used specifically to treat coughs caused by mucus. The terpenes a-pinene, camphene, limonene, linalool, and cineole have all been identified as expectorants. Try using cannabis next time for a head cold to see the Mucinex-like properties for yourself. Inflammation is a response of body tissues to harmful stimuli such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. Persons with COPD have inflammation within the lungs. Steroids are generally prescribed to treat this condition, in which prolonged steroid use can lead to more health issues. Cannabis is a major anti-inflammatory. Most known cannabinoids such as THC, CBD, CBG, CBN and CBC assist with decreasing inflammation and many terpenes such as bisobolol, humulene, a-pinene, caryophyllene, myrcene, limonene, and linalool also play a role in treating inflammation. Persons over 21 with COPD or persons holding a medical
marijuana card are allowed by state law to obtain and use marijuana. Tinctures are a good way to get started, especially if you have compromised lungs. Sticking to the edibles general rule of thumb of 2.5-10mg, adjust the milligrams as needed. Vaping is also a better choice of consumption than smoking. Decreasing the heat reduces carcinogens, making it a bit easier for someone with lung issues if this is the chosen route to use. Mucus production in the body can also be decreased by avoiding certain foods such as dairy, red meat, processed meat, gluten, alcohol, and sugar. Staying hydrated and self-monitoring are also important. Anyone using cannabis who has medications should have their medication list looked over as medication interactions do exist. eet Bryce and Lyndy Omer, two hardworking, honest people who, in 2009, started a mom-and-pop business cultivating a CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) named Meadow Valley. The CSA receives support from locals who’ve signed up to be shareholders and who in turn receive one basket of fresh farm goods
The Omer’s have an all-natural, pesticide-free farm tucked away in the small town of Moapa, Nevada, approximately forty-five miles north of the city of Las Vegas. Having been residents of the Moapa area since 1981, the Omers saw a need first in their own large family for healthier food choices and a more natural, organic lifestyle. The perfect opportunity for expanding on this need came in 2009 in the guise of available land and materials, and thus Meadow Valley CSA was born. In this day and age of modern technology and convenience, why start a farm? The answer to that question can also be found on the CSA’s website at www.meadowvalleycsa.com/node/7. The CSA’s visionary goals are to nurture families, embrace American freedom, promote vibrant health and sustain a balance with nature. All of this is done through the amazing, healing benefits of truly all-natural food! These days, it can be difficult to know where

your food comes from. The link from man to his food source has become lost somewhere and that is downright sad. What’s more, not knowing about what’s inside the food you eat doesn’t protect you from the harsh chemicals, unnatural fertilizers, and artificial growth hormones that are most likely contained within your food and which can have negative consequences for your body and more alarmingly, your potential overall health. It can no longer be ignored that the majority of food that comes out of the ground may not be as good for the human body as it used to be. What about the possibility that this food has been grown unnaturally with toxic chemicals to increase the size and weight, nourished with too many heavy fertilizers, and oversprayed with harsh pesticides? It comes down to a simple concept: Most food is mass-produced by large farming companies who rely upon filling quotas, rather than the personal health of the consumer. It loses a lot of the nutritional value that your body naturally craves and needs. Think of fruit that is picked while it is still hard and green. How common is that in a grocery store? The better solution to this frightening picture is to get your food locally sourced, from a farmer that you can meet and be instructed about your food and how it’s grown, as all food should be grown. Meadow Valley CSA Farm is that farmer near you who supplies delicious, non-GMO, pesticide-free, all-natural, gluten-free vegetables, fruits, fresh herbs, eggs from free-range, cruelty-free chickens, plus free-range, cruelty-free meat and more to your table! This family-oriented business depends upon locals living in Southern Nevada and Mesquite who buy shares and receive a weekly basket filled with fresh vegetables and other available farm products for each twelve-week season. Meadow Valley offers four twelve-week seasons a year, offering different produce for each time of year and each weekly basket is guaranteed fresh, picked and prepared only hours before being delivered. How does your basket reach you? At present, delivery day for shares is Wednesday. You may select “Home Delivery” online, or elect to pick up your basket at a pickup location near you every Wednesday. For added convenience, we have partnered with Vegas Cannabis
68
Magazine to allow share boxes to be picked up on Wednesdays at their office. One share for a full season is twelve baskets, delivered from the farm to you. What is in a basket on any given week? The products of Meadow Valley CSA make up an extensive list that changes with the seasons. To give you an idea, here are a few products that Meadow Valley has grown: Kale, Armenian cucumbers, sweet potatoes, juicy tomatoes, beets (and baby beet greens), sweet onions, different varieties of squash, lettuces, sweet carrots, melons, garlic, a variety of fresh, pesticide-free herbs, and more. For a full and comprehensive list, as well as current basket ingredients for the season, please see the farm’s website at meadowvalleycsa.com. Basket ingredients change per season, depending on availability. All baskets are guaranteed to be full and fresh, with a variety of things contained within. To see pictures of past and present baskets, please visit the farm’s Facebook page, at Meadow Valley Farm, or to read ingredient lists of the most recent and upcoming baskets, see the farm’s website.

THE REEFER REPORT October 2016 was buzzing with dialogue and activities focused on the passing of question 2. Most Nevadans stood firmly for or against the legalization of responsible adult use cannabis and some poor souls were stuck in the middle with no idea what to do. One year later Nevada voters and tourists have become dependent upon mainstream media news sources for information on the most recent developments regarding cannabis in their local community. For a second opinion on breaking news regarding the progress of Nevada’s cannabis industry and continuously changing regulations, tune in to local podcasts to hear thoughts and opinions of Las Vegas patients, consumers and industry insiders. These podcast shows are a breath of fresh air, giving unfiltered analysis and uncensored perspectives of ongoing cannabis developments in Nevada and around the nation. The longest running and most popular podcast is The Nevada Cannabis News Hour. The show made its launch in February 2014 and has had a who’s who list of guests and hosts over the past three years. For quite some time, it was the only source of local cannabis news for many people. Even when the audience was small the dedicated newscasters were determined to remain on air. During the buildup to legalization
the shows viewership jumped from the hundreds to the thousands. The hour long weekly show is produced by WECAN702, the largest cannabis non-profit organization in the state. The current hosts, Perry Hitechew and Michael McAullife, bring a wealth of knowledge to the conversation, educating their audience to the intricacies of the industry. New episodes air live every Tuesdays at 3pm-4pm broadcasted from WWDBtv.com radio station. The show is also captured on video and past episodes are available on YouTube. The next two podcasts are relatively young, both made their debut earlier this year. The Kannabis Plug launched in April 2017 led by hosts; the late Pete Rendon better known as Primo your neighborhood cousin, MonsterProhibitions worst nightmare, and THC- The Homie Cristina. The radio personalities captivated an audience with their Latino vibe and the passion in their voices when they spoke about cannabis. Mid-July Kannabis Plug host Pete Rendon made his transition after a long battle with cancer. This tragic loss caused the show to go off-air temporarily. #WhoIsPeteRendon Last month the show re-launched releasing more than 4 new episodes. In addition to Monster, this revamped version of the podcast includes two new hosts, GYG and Honey Man Dan. The hosts seemed to be well versed in local cannabis happenings but it’s not all weed talk, the dynamic show includes other content like conspiracy
theories and great music. New episodes are streamed live on periscope every Monday at 4pm broadcasted from 22.3 take over Vegas radio. All episodes can be found on mixcloud.com. Vegas’s hottest upstart is The Puff & Run podcast who launched season one in March 2017. An entertaining source of news and information about marijuana and running, bringing you the latest updates on cannabis in Las Vegas and the 420 Cross Country team. The show also covers ongoing cannabis educational activities taking place in academia on the campus of UNLV. Puff & Run has a history of featuring guests who are broadcasting their thoughts on cannabis to a public audience for the first time. The host of the #PuffnRun podcast is longtime local cannabis ambassador, UNLV Rebels Cannabis Awareness Network (CAN) founder, ultramarathoner and triathlete, Deuvall Dorsey, better known as the @ Vegas420runner. The co-host of the show is heavy weight long distance runner, @Mr.Run2improve, the 420lb weight loss champion. The show invites listeners to participate in a free monthly 5k virtual run by signing up on www. Run2improve.com to receive a cannabis themed race bib. The 90-minute show is produced by REDEFINEcannabis.com as part of an effort to redefine cannabis and those who use it by way of athletics and academics. New episodes are released twice a month on the 4th and the 20th broadcasted from www.MJfitnut.com. The official sponsor of the show is @ MJFitNut (Marijuana Fitness & Nutrition), the world’s leading source for all things canna-fitness related and the home of cannabis athletes across North America. Past episodes can also be found @ PuffnRun on Facebook and YouTube.

personal protection is a priority Personal protection products are extremely important within the cannabis industry. Utilizing these types of products ensure that your facility stays clean and safe. Keep in mind, simply using personal protection items is not enough. You must use these products in the way they are intended in order to be certain they are effective. For example, wearing a face mask under your nose is incorrect and not the way the product was intended for use. Face masks are meant to be worn over the nose and mouth which are the parts of your face that will contaminate products if you cough, sneeze, or breathe on them. Not using personal protection products correctly could lead to unnecessary spending and unwanted contamination. If you are unclear as to the correct usage of any personal protection products, be sure to direct your questions to your supplier and ask for guidance. >>>Alexis Solorzano >>>> Green Medical Supplies, A division of Champion Medical Supplies, greenmedicalsupplies.com

MUSIC
DEMON LUNG Sin City’s own Demon Lung have been unleashing their unique brand of doom/stoner metal on the international metal scene since 2O11, a hypnotizing combination of monolithic slabs of sinisterly innovative riffs coupled with singer Shanda Fredricks’ haunting wails acting as siren calls luring listeners into a dark world of stories of occult horror. Since releasing their first EP they have continued to churn out horror inspired instant stoner rock classics including their latest album, “A Dracula” a much applauded concept album based on the 1977 horror film “Alucarda” which tells the story of two Catholic schoolgirls accidentally unleashing a satanic force which possesses them and terrorizes their school. I got a chance to sit down with Shanda and bassist Sage Adam to toke up and talk about horror movies, the true meaning of “stoner rock” and their personal preferences for rocking the ganja. Garrett Dillon: Your first two albums are based on horror films and your lyrics focus predominantly on horror themes, what is your favorite horror movie to watch while stoned and do you have any favorite directors? Shanda: Jim Van Bebber I fuckin love, I love him so much I tried to get his haircut from “Deadbeat at Dawn” but no stylist would give it to me so they kind of gave me the girls’ version of it, but I someday hope to have that haircut because it’s awesome.

our own songs. I guess you could call it indie. They were seasoned, older musicians and we played strip music, like lounge music. I really loved it, they were really skilled and they taught me a lot about showmanship especially when I’m singing. I can’t really talk when I’m up there but when I sing I can just get into it. My listening preferences have changed but not really either. I’m inspired but a lot of music. I listen to a lot of oldies, today I was listening to Fiona Apple. I just listen to random stuff and I think he can say the same. Sage: Absolutely
Sage: All the classic shit. Fulci is amazing, of course Dario Argento did some of my favorite stuff growing up. I’m pretty jaded about horror movies. Shanda: But there’s so much good stuff that’s coming out now it seems like everyday I’m watching a new horror movie, so just watching whatever is new is the fun thing to smoke weed and delve into. Sage: You have to delve into it because you could have a total fucking turd. It’s a new discovery and it gets harder every year to find something good. GD: Have your listening preferences changed at all in regards to what’s playing while you smoke? Shanda in particular I understand you were in an indie band before Demon Lung? Shanda: Kind of, it was a really good starter band for me because in Vegas everything is casino based so it’s a lot of cover songs, but we also wrote
GD: I’ve seen you guys open up for quite a few metal legends in Vegas over the years, Eyehategod, Pentagram and Necrophagia just to name a few. Have you ever been “smokestruck” or gotten the chance to smoke with a musician you enjoy or are inspired by? Sage: Well, sometimes you see each other backstage just going back to say hey but you don’t have a lot of time to do stuff like that or sometimes you do have a good chance to hang out. It’s all hit or miss. Shanda: For me Wounded Giant is a band that makes me….like, I don’t feel like a cool person just because I’m in a band, I never got the whole band experience which is probably my fault. I’m too scared to dive in and be one of the guys, it's nerve wracking for me, but Wounded Giant, we’ve smoked weed with them, we’ve done other stuff with them, we’ve played at the top of a mountain with them, traveled with them, so it really feels like a band experience when we’re caravanning and those are the coolest moments when I’m awestruck, like I’m
cool and this is the best ever! That’s the dream for me and those are the moments where I feel super fulfilled, we’re all together and it’s just fun. GD: I’d like to hear your take on the genre designation “stoner metal/rock”. Do you believe stoner rock is gauged solely by sound or do you think lyrics and imagery play a definitive role? Your music doesn’t seem to have much in the way of direct references; do you consider yourselves stoner metal? Sage: I mean, our lyrics and imagery are more psychedelia than anything so whatever on that, I think it would be more defined by the sound, the groove that’s obviously really important in stoner rock, you gotta have that groove. I mean lyrics and imagery you can make it psychedelia, you can make it whatever. Shanda: I don’t think that it has to be direct references to weed in order for it to be a weed album. Our albums are full stories, you better be on weed in order to fucking have a dedication to listen to it all, it’s like a given with our album. There’s groove, there’s chugging, it’s meant for marijuana. That’s why we accept the stoner rock label, we get it: we smoke weed while we make it and you should smoke weed while you listen to it. GD: As a stoner metal band (since we’ve clarified that,) is it pretty easy to procure herbs on the road flying that flag? Sage: Oh yeah, you run into stuff, a lot of people are simpatico. Shanda: We are really fortunate. GD: On that note let’s crack open the next preroll and give a little shout out to Green Life Productions for this amazing Emerald Bodhi. Shanda: I’m enjoying this too because I make the prerolls where I work. I enjoy it alot; I like making little quotas for the
day and beating it. GD: That’s awesome! Where is it you work and what is your favorite strain? Shanda: I work at Shango and right now I would say the A-Dub. It’s really good! GD: What is your favorite method of ingestion? Shanda: Smoking. Sage: Yeah, smoking I like my classic joint. Shanda: We’re old school, that’s what we do at practice. I have a glass pipe too because you need to conserve at times and I clean that pipe on the regular. I guess I harp on them too, they get mad when I refuse their pipe but I’m like “nuh uh.” Sage: I’ve been motivated for a month straight to keep my piece clean and then I let it go for months, then you gotta spend a day cleaning it because it’s so fuckin’ clogged.Shanda GD: Demon Lung is named after an Electric Wizard song and their influence on the band is pretty clear. What is your favorite Electric Wizard song? Sage: Oh man….I just say albums, so obviously “We Live“ is fucking awesome, it’s killer. Shanda: Agreed. Sage: And also “Dopethrone”, love it, also one of my favorites, it’s so classic I mean how can you not? I actually have an original UK pressing here. GD: Speaking of the Wizard, you played alongside them last year at Las Vegas’ most prestigious stoner/doom metal festival Psycho. Did you get a chance to check them or any other bands out? Shanda: Well, Candlemass, I did. We were checking merch, doing all of that and getting ready and after that you’re staying up the whole night before so you have to go to sleep for a little while, so you catch bands here and there,
I can't really remember too many, but Candlemass is the one that I spent the entire time watching, it was amazing, that’s the one that really stands out. Chrch was there too and we saw them and they were really amazing too! Sage: I saw quite a few bands since I was there pretty much the whole time. Saw Wizard was great. There were a few things I missed that were super late that I couldn’t get to because I was so fucked up. Goya played at like 3 in the morning and Behold the Monolith also played super late that night which Jeremy went to but I was so goddamn drunk that night I had to be ushered out. Other than that, I saw most of it. GD: Any plans for recording or touring in the near future? Shanda: We have this EP, Paredlioa, that we pretty much started everything with and we’ve only had it, up until now on cassette tape. We really haven’t treated it or produced it well because we had just started when we made it but we always liked the songs so we wanted to put it in LP form and just present it with some cover songs that we added on. Sage: We still do a lot of those songs live so it’s still very relevant to the current set. And, the songs are killer too. The vinyl will be released on M-Theory and there will be a couple of bonus tracks, an unreleased song, which I believe is the first tune the band ever recorded together, and a cover we’re just finishing up. Shanda: We’re also in the beginning stages of writing our next album too, so I think this has been a little bit of inspiration to get back to our roots and write from that sound because in our first and second album we got so wrapped up in how to make it that we kind of lost a little bit of our sound. Sage just joined us a couple of years ago so our sound has really shifted with him. We just want to write and see where we can go with it.

ANDREW BREWER This month, we spotlight SNOWBOARDER ANDREW BREWER TO find out WHAT MOTIVATES HIM, WHO INSPIRES HIM and HOW HE MASTERED HIS SIGNATURE MOVES.
Who are your current sponsors and some of your favorite sponsors over the years that may have come and gone?
Current sponsors include Death Label, Celsius, Northstar, Cake ATR, Sabre, Banshee Bungee, Jammy Pack, and Stinky Socks. My favorite past sponsors would have to be Smokin Snowboard, because they were my first legit sponsor that ran ads and what not, then Technine cause they really helped and let me travel the world.
When was your first part?
It's hard to say when my first part was. I have been filming myself for the past 15 years, my first parts were probably from The Arena with Fodt , the Comune Video, and Back to the Boneyard with The Bangshow. Each of those were right around 2011, I think.
How did you get so good at rails?
Well, my brother and I were always really good because in high school I took welding and I was always really fuckin' good at welding. I would just go in and weld all these handrails out of the old high school backstop that got destroyed and then go bury them and set them up in my yard or hide them in the woods. So, I would just go ride handrails in my yard, all day long. Legit handrails.
What crews have you filmed with over the years?
Over the years, I have filmed with FODT and Cole Taylor, The Bang Show, and Comune.
How many parts have you released? I have released maybe 4 or 5, but have something in the works now.
Who are your favorite filmmakers to work with and why?
Man, it’s hard to say. My favorite filmmakers are probably my friends when we are cruising and having a good time. When it came to serious stuff, Cole Taylor was there to push you for sure.
84
Where are some of your favorite places to ride?
My favorite place to ride is Japan. I know it's cliche but it's just the people and the snow and the whole environment that just makes it amazing!
What resorts in Nevada do you like most?
Definitely Northstar-At-Tahoe and Boreal, they're the best.
What are your favorite tricks?
My favorite tricks are probably straight backflips and switch back 180, rails on a good front board always feel great too.
Who in snowboarding inspires you right now?
Honestly, right now the people that inspire me are the same guys I looked up to years ago. MFM, to this day is the sickest and best snowboarder. Spins and flips are overrated, making something as simple as a 360 look amazing is an art.
What motivates you to keep up the snow hustle?
I think what motivates me the most is the culture, all the people and friends i know are all a part of it. I love it so much and have been doing it for so long that I don’t want it to end.
What else are you into besides snowboarding?
Golf, I love golf. I used to hate it but now i can't afford to play it enough, haha!
Anything else you want to share?
I think it's absurd that cannabis is still illegal in some states, and I am glad Nevada approved recreational. More than anything, I find it to be a waste of taxpayer money to keep people locked up for weed, what a joke.

HIGH THERE OUR STONEY BOLOGNEY FRIENDS! THAT'S RIGHT IT’S YOUR DOOBIE DOLLS, KELLER+GINGY AND WE HAVE BEEN HITTING THE STREETS THIS MONTH, HERE IN VIVA-POT VEGAS. WE ARE HERE TO FILL YOU IN ON ALL THE GOODS WE DISCOVERED! LIGHT ONE UP… POSSIBLY TWO IF YOU’RE HOME FOR THE NIGHT AND WANT TO GET LOST IN THE WORLD OF K+G. As you know already, from last month's article, we have been on a hunt for the best medical grade cannabis for Gingy’s chronic pain due to a spinal injury. We have been hitting up different local dispensaries, budtenders, growers, you name it… to find out who is providing us with our greatest experience! To start off, we hit up our neighborhood dispensary, Acres. It is conveniently located close to Downtown, the Arts District, and the Strip, and boy how do we love this place! The budtenders, the products and their culture! Did you know that they throw monthly industry nights involving not only the cannabis industry but also local artists, movers and shakers. They know how to grow a culture… but we “weeded” to know… could they also grow a stupendous team of budtenders and supply the best bud, for your best buds? Ramon was at our service as our budtender. This man was wildly educated and even helped us fix Keller’s glitchy vape she had bought at a different dispensary. We let him know exactly what we were looking for, discussed with him at length regarding what had and hadn’t worked. We walked out of there not only with some great new treats like Matrix’s stupendous Nepalese Kush to try, but also hysterically laughing. Ramon is one of the budtenders at the top of our list. Next up, we truly enjoyed our experience and the products provided at The Grove. This dispensary is closely located to UNLV, Restaurant Row, and our favorite… the ever so stylish and happening Fruit Loop. I have gone back to this dispensary over and over again, even though it is farther from Downtown, because each of the budtenders has been extremely knowledgable and helpful. My favorite product by far, from this location, has been Reserve’s OG
88
Grape Krypt. It has one of the highest CBN, CBC, myrcene, and caryophyllene profiles I have ever seen together in a vape, which makes it great for pain and inflammation management throughout the day. And last, but certainly not least, The Source! This dispensary almost feels like Thanksgiving at home with the entire, functional & possibly high, family. I have been going to The Source for almost three years as a medical patient. Their staff is hands down the most genuine and inviting team I have experienced in all of my dispensary exploration, and it never changes… every single time you go in. As of yet, they have one of the largest selections of high quality extracts, vapes and edibles that I have ever seen. This month, I tried Highly Edible’s indica Organic Watermelon Pucks… which are downright drool worthy… you can ask my pillow all about it! They have two locations, one in Vegas and another in Henderson, and the culture and team radiate throughout. This month we put miles on the car, created more playlists, created more outrageous ideas for K+G and dove deeper into the culture of our local dispensaries. Next month we will be filling you in on our experience filming our “Behind the Seeds” mini documentary series at the Life Is Beautiful Festival and the not so underground pot culture. Make sure to stay tuned to our monthly articles here in Vegas Cannabis and also check out our Youtube & Instagram channels. You don’t want to miss a beat with us! Until next month our Dank Dolls and Daddy’s, have a PotTastic time in VivaPot Vegas, the place most of us call home.

Giovanni moved to Las Vegas in his youth and began his painting career in 2005 after watching his cousin create a simple stencil to form type treatments. From that moment on he was hooked, for Giovanni the art is in the hand cutting technique of each stencil. His works contain many different stencils requiring hours of cutting before the process of painting even begins. Giovanni’s passion for vintage things; from old signs and cars to comic books has inspired the multi-layered design of his paintings.

HERE COMES FALL... CHEF FRED'S HEALING SOUPS One of the building blocks to health while ill is nutrition. I always advise at least three different, healthy soup recipes for keeping an ill friend or family member alive and healthy while fighting everything from a cold to cancer. I love creamy soups like broccoli and cheddar and butternut squash soup, they have a way of putting me to sleep so I can heal. Cannabis oil, chicken, broth and quinoa with veggies, there is something about that combination of ingredients that is a super food. Stay healthy and keep warm as the weather turns colder. Day Dreaming Broccoli Cheddar Soup INGREDIENTS: - 4 cups broccoli chopped - ½ diced onion - 4 cloves garlic minced - 3 1/2 chicken broth (or vegetable broth) - 1 cup heavy cream - 3 cups cheddar cheese (pre-shredded) - 3 grams distillate infused in 4 Tbsp EVO

DIRECTIONS: In a large pot over medium heat, saute garlic and onion for one minute. Add the chicken broth, heavy cream, and chopped broccoli. Increase heat to bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-20 minutes, until broccoli is tender. Add the shredded cheddar cheese gradually, at this point infuse with distillate EVO stirring
constantly, and continue to stir until melted. Make sure to keep it at a very low simmer and avoid high heat, to prevent seizing. Remove from heat immediately once all the cheese melts.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
RSO Life Saving Chicken Quinoa Soup
INGREDIENTS: - 1 small or 1/2 large butternut squash - 2 Tbsp butter - 1/2 onion - 2 garlic cloves, sliced - 1/2 tsp fresh thyme - 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon - 4 cups vegetable broth - 1 cup heavy cream - salt and pepper to taste - 1 tsp infused with 3 grams distillate olive oil
INGREDIENTS: - 1 Tbs butter - 1/2 cup chopped onion - 1/2 cup chopped celery - 4 lbs chicken broth - 1 lb vegetable broth - 1 lb chopped cooked chicken breast - 3 g cannabis oil infused with 3 Tbs MCT oil - 1 cup quinoa -1 cup sliced carrots - 1/2 tsp dried basil - 1/2 tsp dried oregano - salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS: Cut the butternut squash into 2-inch sized chunks. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, thyme and cinnamon and stir. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the onion is softened, stirring occasionally. Add the squash, broth and heavy cream to the pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook about 20 minutes, or until a fork easily inserts into the squash. Using an immersion blender, incorporate infused olive oil and puree the soup until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
Irie Sourdough INGREDIENTS: - 3 cups lukewarm water (105F) - 7 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour - 1 tsp sea salt - 1 1/2 tablespoons instant or active dry yeast - 1 gram distillate infused in 2 Tbs MCT oil DIRECTIONS: Combine all of the ingredients in a food grade, 5-gallon bucket. Start with the warm water, salt, yeast then cannabis oil. Mix and stir everything together to make a very sticky, rough dough. Next, you're going to let the dough rise. Cover the bucket, and let the dough rise at room temperature for 2 hours. Then refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, or for up to about 7 days. The longer you keep it in the fridge, the tangier it'll get; if you chill it for 7 days, it will become
DIRECTIONS: In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter. Cook onion and celery in butter until just tender, 5 minutes. Pour in chicken and vegetable broths and stir in chicken, quinoa, carrots, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes and add cannabis oil during simmer.
a sourdough. When you're ready to make bread, sprinkle the top of the dough with flour; this will make it easier to portion. Grease your hands, and pull off about 1/4 to 1/3 of the dough 1 lb. piece. Place dough onto a floured work surface, and round it into a ball. Place the loaf on a piece of parchment. Sift a light coating of flour over the top; this will help keep the bread moist as it rests before baking. Let the loaf warm to room temperature and rise; this should take about 60 minutes (or longer, up to a couple of hours,. Preheat your oven to 450°F while the loaf rests. If you're using a baking stone, position it on a middle rack while the oven preheats. Place a shallow metal or cast iron pan (not glass, Pyrex, or ceramic) on the lowest oven rack, and have 1 cup of hot water ready to go. When you're ready to bake, take a sharp knife and slash the bread 2 or 3 times, making a cut about 1/2" deep. Place the bread in the oven onto a middle rack, pour 1 cup hot water into a shallow pan on the rack beneath. This will create steam; close the oven door quickly. Bake the bread for 25 to 35 minutes, until it's a deep, golden brown.
