Editor’s Note The wait is over! Finally, the first dispensary in Southern Nevada, Euphoria Wellness has opened its doors. With other dispensaries on the way, and cultivation facilities now growing, it is just a matter of time before patients have a multitude of options. The rising concerns by patients who, up until now have been growing their own medicine, were also addressed at the latest Las Vegas Medical Marijuana Association Meeting where Sheriff Joe Lombardo declared that patients growing cannabis would not be targeted. The industry is moving forward and hopefully as it does, consideration for the patients will not be lost. For this issue, I had the chance to chat with the legendary Tommy Chong about his current battle with cancer as well as his new talk show and his passion for cannabis. Medical Cannabis & Cancer: Take Five Leaves and Pray By Sharon Letts
The summer of 2012 a mammogram found a spider-web-like mass in my right breast. Research showed it to be “Lobular Carcinoma,” a mass, not a tumor. In the weeks leading up to the first mammogram and subsequent ultra-sound, I began ingesting raw leaves. By the time the first biopsy was done the spider web was gone with just a “target point” remaining. After bartering with my oncologist for another month, he agreed to let me continue my treatment.
the patient starting small, initially taking a piece of oil the size of a half grain of rice. After some time a full grain of rice is taken, working up to one full gram a day until the full 60-gram treatment is gone. The most invasive cancers have been found to be gone in less than 90 days if the oil is strong enough. Other oils have come on the market as medicine makers step up. But the rule of thumb is to make sure it’s tested, as the numbers need to test high in THC and since the base is made with solvent and it must be cooked down.
60 Grams in 90 Days
The treatment for RSO is to ingest 60 grams in 90 days. Suppositories are said to be best as it gets the medicine right to the blood stream and organs for healing, not digestive processing.
Happily the second scheduled biopsy found nothing, with the mass completely gone from both the mammogram and ultrasound. The attending technician called it a “technical error,” stating the initial technician probably got it wrong. But I was there looking over her shoulder and saw the same distinct spider-web mass in both the mammogram and ultra-sound. An oncologist assistant was called in for lack of an attending oncologist to have a chat with me, stating sometimes there is “dense tissue” that can be confused with cancers. But his lecture on the subject was long, convoluted, and did not make sense to me at all. I was polite and reiterated that I treated myself by ingesting cannabis oil, but he didn’t know anything about the treatment, of course, and refused to engage in a conversation.
The strong oil used to treat cancer and other serious ailments was re-invented by Canadian Rick Simpson more than ten years ago. The recipe is specific, using bud, stem and leaf for whole plant theory and the most medicine. A medicine maker who made several batches for her husband’s prostate cancer said she first used just bud and the batch tested high in THC. Simpson encourages upwards of 95 percent THC in the mix; the second batch leaf was added and the test showed CBD; the third batch she added stems and found CBN was added – proving whole plant theory gets you the most medicine.

A common mistake is to soak the plant material for days rather than a quick wash (three minutes, tops), as the medicine is in the fragile terpenes of the plant and soaking only draws in more chlorophyll to the mix and actually retains solvent, while lowering the percentage for medicinal compounds. I can’t emphasize how strong the oil is, but the THC is necessary. The first tests on destroying tumors came from Israel in 1974, and the THC component of the plant was isolated for this reason. It will knock you down, but that’s a good thing, as the body needs rest to heal. The modern day “take a pill” and continue life as usual just doesn’t work for this treatment.

The follow-up letter received from the lab stated they felt the “dense tissue” remaining in my breast was “probably left over from a prior surgery.” This gave me a huge laugh, as, of course, I have never had surgery in that breast or the other one, for that matter. I also felt this was an insult to my intelligence and the treatment used, but until the masses are educated on this plant we can’t expect this process to be easy. At the very least everyone involved heard my words. My cancer experience was three summers ago and to this day I ingest with various deliveries I make myself, as follows: •

Blending raw leaf daily for digestive issues, prevention of illness, and overall well-being (no psychoactive effects). Maintenance dose of RSO at night for sleep and prevention of illness and cancers.

Cooking meals using infused oils, butter, honey, etc. Cocktails with infused alcohol, such as gin or rum – quelling inflammation leading to headaches and hangovers, prevention of illness. Cold and flu prevention: If I feel a cold or flu coming on I up my ingesting and the infection lasts just a couple of days. Use of infused topical salves, lotions, deodorant: Daily skin regiment for cancers, rashes, bug bites, burns, acne, and numerous disorders of the skin. Smoking as needed for depression associated with hormonal disorders (Thyroid Disease, Menopause)
To date, the stigma is still greater than the remedy, but the times they are a changing. With each new story of healing shared, people learn the truth. And you can’t stop the truth from spreading – thankfully, it’s a cancer in itself. Recently I had the opportunity to chat with cannabis legend Tommy Chong. The day of the interview marked Tommy’s last day of radiation for his cancer treatment and he was in good spirits. Full of jokes and of course, passionate about cannabis, Tommy was a wealth of information and insight. First of all, how are you feeling? A little better, today was my last day of radiation. They told me the good news that I will be feeling like shit for another week. I do have an operation coming up, the doctors plan to remove the tumor and give me a new asshole. Are you using cannabis oil as part of your cancer treatment? Oh, you know it. I couldn’t go through this without it. I am more so using the flower to get high. I do ingest the oil but it is the high that is getting me through all the pain and discomfort. I am using cannabis oil, along with traditional medicine such as chemotherapy and radiation. There are people in our industry who would like to forego all forms of conventional treatments and just get high, which would be ideal, but as Bob Marley found out, getting high does not cure this disease. Cancer is like a war, it needs to be attacked from all angles. I don’t want to mislead people. When I was first diagnosed, I immediately began searching the internet for treatment options and while I did find many stories of people using only natural remedies to treat cancer, I didn’t find much back up that it ultimately worked. What other steps have you taken to ensure good
health?
When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2005, I immediately changed my diet. I went on a holistic diet which included eliminating red meat, sugar, acidic foods and alcohol as well as adding fish oil. I feel much better and look much better with a clean diet and it was the diet change and exercise that got me through Dancing with the Stars so I continue eating clean and exercising. You know, “they kept telling me that I busted my ass on Dancing with the Stars and when I think about it, I literally did, I now have rectal cancer and my ass is definitely busted.” Las Vegas Hempfest is coming up on October 3rd, I know that Las Vegas is excited to know that you will be
attending - are you looking forward to coming to Vegas? Right now, I am just looking forward to having a bowel movement where I don’t cry. But In all seriousness, yes, I am very much looking forward to coming to Vegas and attending Las Vegas Hempfest. In fact, often times, visiting Vegas is a good thing because you can forget a lot of your troubles. Look for me at Hempfest and come by and say hi - I will be hanging out so stop by our booth and take a picture with me. What do you like best about Las Vegas? What’s not to like about Vegas. I Love going to the shows. “O” at the Bellagio is always a favorite. And, whenever I am in Las Vegas, I make sure to stop by and visit my good friend Carrot Top. We currently have just one dispensary open in Southern Nevada but more on the way. Once all dispensaries are open, many believe that patients will lose some of their rights, how do you feel about the government regulating marijuana? The government right now is like a drunken sailor. They are just staggering around and don’t really know what to do with the marijuana movement. The legalization movement has taken them totally by surprise. My prediction is that eventually there will be no regulation of cannabis. Marijuana is, by nature a self-regulating form of medicine. The dosage for each person is different, there is no “one dose fits all” and there is no “one cure fits all.” People consume for different reasons and I consider all marijuana use medical. Alcohol is recreational because there is no
medical use whatsoever, cannabis is completely different, it is medicine and it should not be regulated like alcohol. Attempting to regulate cannabis and track plants is ridiculous. Someone takes a plant across state lines, the government has no way of telling exactly where that plant was grown, and ultimately, who cares. They are doing the same thing with cannabis that they have done with prison reform - they do the study, they do the headline and then nothing changes. The marijuana black market is the strongest black market in the world. We already have a system in place for growing and distributing. You can get marijuana in practically any US city faster than you can get a pizza. You can literally call up and get cannabis delivered to you. Pricing is already in place, everything is in place. People obtaining licenses to grow legally will never stop the underground growers from doing what they do best. There will always be people against marijuana but the truth of the matter is that those people no longer matter. Those people are dinosaurs and will eventually be phased out. They are slowly going down the drain along with the gasoline car. All we have to do in the marijuana industry is jump through the government’s hoops. If you want a compassion club, well then go pay the government fees and jump through their hoops. If you are a person just simply growing to provide medicine for yourself, just keep doing what you are doing. It seems that people of all ages and all walks of life are joining this procannabis movement. To what do you attribute this? Anytime you have people that are faced with pain and illness, and you have a medicine that is as effective as cannabis, you will have people on board. When I come home from radiation, I have basically been barbecued. I am in a lot of pain and often times it is my wife that reminds me when I am laying on the floor moaning and groaning to go get stoned. It’s weird that someone actually has to remind me, of all people, to go get stoned. Marijuana is the only thing that makes me feel better and makes the pain bearable. Literally within a few minutes of smoking, I feel better, I can smile, I can hold a conversation and I can operate. My doctors continuously offer me pain medicine and my reply is always “that is the last thing I want to get hooked on.” I have talked to many
cancer survivors who have indicated to me that their biggest obstacle after beating cancer is getting off the painkillers. Here we have an herb that you smoke or ingest and the pain goes away, naturally, what more can you ask for? What do you say to those people that believe that marijuana is just recreational? Consuming marijuana is purely medical. People may think that they are consuming just to get high. But getting high and in turn relaxing is medical, it’s good for you. In the military, after soldiers go and fight in war, they are entitled to R and R, or Rest and Recreation. This is because after fighting, the body needs rest, it needs to relax and recover – cannabis helps and the high forces your body into a relaxed state. Without the rest and relaxation, the stress will kill you. It’s funny, the doctors who aren’t completely on board with cannabis are the ones sitting there asking me if I am still using it, asking me how much I consume and taking notes all the while noticing that I am eating regularly and I am relaxing and getting through the pain without their pain medicine. They are taking notes and passing what they are learning on to their other patients. They notice that although I am a typical patient in a lot of ways, the differences they see in me are directly related to marijuana – I never lost a lot of weight, I have continued to have an appetite, and I am in relatively good spirits. I hear you have a new talk show, Almost Legal, can you tell us a little bit about it? Yes! It is the brain child of my son Paris. I am at a point in my life where I am unable to travel or do standup comedy anymore. But, I am able to do a talk show so that is what we are working on. It will air online like everything else these days LOL. We are all stuck to our computers or phones these days and I am no different, I drive a Tesla so I also have a big ass computer inside my car. Who inspires you? Richard Pryor, we became really good friends and I studied his comedy a lot. I watched him through his highs and lows. Also, Redd Foxx who I had known when I was playing music. I have always had a real bond with the black comedians.
You have been married to your wife Shelby since 1975. Tell us about your relationship and how you have managed to stay together for so long. We have officially been married since 1975 but have been together much longer. We have been together so long and I swear, every year she looks better and better. She is exceptionally beautiful, there is something crazy about this woman. Now, she has started painting and she is amazing, she even painted a portrait of me which is beautiful. I feel like I am living with a teenager, her energy is nonstop. She has helped me through these cancer battles and pushes me forward. She knows how to push my buttons. When we met, I was a struggling musician and she was young but had an incredible business sense which was what I needed. She encouraged me to do the Cheech and Chong films and has helped me manage my career throughout our marriage. Now, she does her own standup comedy and is hoping to do a Dancing with the Stars season as well. I often joke that she is my retirement plan. Do you have a favorite cannabis strain? I am still looking for my favorite strain and I am not going to stop until I find it. I do currently have a couple of strains marketed under my brand. Out in Colorado, we are growing a strain called Chong Star in memory of my time on Dancing with the Stars. We also have a strain out in Washington being grown now that has yet to be named. Who is the coolest person you have ever smoked with? George Harrison from the Beatles. He was a man of few words but he loved to get high. We didn’t talk much, just got high and smiled at each other. I mean, how cool is that? I tried at one point to smoke with John Lennon but he was having immigration problems at the time and didn’t want to smoke. There is only one Beatle I have never met, Paul McCartney, and he is probably the only Beatle that would have smoked with my anytime and anywhere. After his eight year struggle searching for the apparently elusive information needed to become legal, James decided to open Medical Cannabis Consultants of Nevada (MCCNV) , a federally tax-exempt nonprofit offering advice on how to apply for a state medical marijuana registration card, make referrals to physicians who prescribe marijuana, and show clients how to cultivate the plant. Parsons nonprofit was raided and closed its doors after being open just short of a year in 2010.

Another season is passing and as we enjoy our summer barbecues, times at the beach, camping trips, or any other enjoyable event one does in the sun, remember; some people have had this freedom taken away from them, over a plant. One such person is Ferrell Damon Scott #27797-177, who is serving the eighth-year of a life sentence. Ferrell, a 51-year-old father whose only crime was being a trucker, and a working-father trying to make a living. His only crime was doing his job at the wrong time, in the wrong state. Today in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Alaska or even our nation’s capital, his crime would be considered just part of the business process; the life sentence he’s serving for transporting is unfounded. Besides the fact that the law is unjust, there are some questionable relations between the prosecutor and a juror in this case. When your lover is the prosecutor punishing someone, and you’re a juror, whose side are you on? Being sick or elderly is even more of a struggle behind bars. On July 20, 2015, Kyler Carriker of Wichita, KS began a jury trial which could have resulted in a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years with no chance of parole. In April of 2013, Carriker was asked by Lorenzo Spires if he knew where to get any marijuana. Kyler went to his friend Kyle, who then connected Lorenzo with his friend Ronald. Unbeknownst to Kyler, his old acquaintance from high school, Lorenzo, was now in a gang and planned on robbing them. On the day the transaction was to take place, Spires entered the house with three of his

gang affiliates. Kyler was shot twice, and Ronald Betts, brother of former (2012) state senator Donald Betts, Jr. was shot and killed in an attempt to rob them of the marijuana. Kyler was charged with first degree murder because marijuana related offenses were added to the list of inherently dangerous felonies (crimes where death is most likely to occur). After daily demonstrations utilizing freedom of speech by holding jury nullification signs, as well as painting cars with nullification messages during the two week trial, Kyler was found not guilty of felony murder. The jury foreman stated that this not guilty verdict was a direct result of jury nullification.

After being honorably discharged from the United States Marines in 2002, James Parsons moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be closer to the west coast where medical marijuana appeared to be more mainstream. Parsons spent the next four years attempting to find the information needed to apply for the Las Vegas Medical Marijuana Program and another four years looking for a doctor who could write the recommendation.

The budtenders says, “I’ll serve you, but don’t start anything.” The amount of frustration that Nevada patients feel about being without safe and tested medicine for over ten years and the media saying “Where is the cannabis?” is coming to an end with Nevada dispensaries opening with product. Everyone I have spoken to believes that in Las Vegas, because of full reciprocity in the state of Nevada, it could be one of the busiest cannabis markets in the entire country. In September, we will see medicine from a Nevada medical marijuana establishment on the shelves of dispensaries in both southern and northern Nevada.

Parents of children are testifying all over this country about medical cannabis - allowing their children to speak, reducing hundreds of seizures in a day to one a month, and allowing their child to enjoy their life for the very first time. The medical marijuana industry in Nevada is going to make huge differences in these children’s lives. The Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Division) and legislation has created an extensive amount of warning labels and packaging requirements in NRS 453A. Each jurisdiction, such as the City of Las Vegas, has taken this one step further, providing further labeling and packaging requirements beyond what the state requires to protect its citizens.
Right now, medical refugees are moving to Colorado and soon to Nevada to access life changing medicine for their children. The reason they are seeking a natural non-psychoactive medicine is because pharmaceutical drugs are doing long-term damage to their children and such options Nevada has created one of the most regulated cannabis industries in the entire world under the direction of the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Division), using gaming and previous medical cannabis state regulations as a base-model. Each individual medical marijuana license applied for requires $250,000 in liquid assets, operating capital for an entire year, and a significant investment of capital just to apply for a single roll of the dice. This necessitated a significant amount of previous business success, cannabis expertise, and legitimacy – the like of which have not been seen in prior cannabis applicants before in other states. The majority of these applicants are pillars of the Nevada community including doctors, dentists, lawyers, and many business owners. I currently sit on the Independent Lab Advisory Committee (ILAC), the purpose of which is to assist and advise the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (Division) to

what will be tested for in usable marijuana. The Division, per NRS 453A, along with advice from the Independent Lab Advisory Committee (ILAC), are currently drafting some of the most comprehensive cannabis testing standards in the entire world. When medical cannabis patients travel from around the nation to Nevada desperately seeking life changing medicine for their family, they will be guaranteed the highest quality medicine available to treat their condition. When a patient walks into a Nevada dispensary, their medicine will be lab tested for potency, terpenes, foreign matter, microbial, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticide residues. As required by law, all Medical Marijuana Establishments (MME) must educate their employees and volunteers to ensure that the highest standards are adhered to, so that they provide excellent products and services to patients. MME production facilities must produce your edibles, waxes, & oils using the highest sanitation standards, used by all of the Las Vegas restaurants doing high volume business on the strip today. Cultivation facilities must supervise their employees to make sure that they are cultivating cannabis with fertilizers and pesticides that will do no harm to patients. Dispensaries must educate their employees, so that they can consult patients to help them find the best medicine to treat their medical need(s). The first Wednesday of every month is the ILAC meeting, where all patients and MMEs have an opportunity to express their opinion and have a direct say in what policies the Division decides upon. There is a “revision period” approaching for the Division to make changes to the marijuana program that will make it easier for patients to gain access to safe and tested medicine. Attending these meetings provides an opportunity to influence this process, subsequently helping Nevada seize its place as the dominant cannabis industry in the whole United States. Not On My Watch By: James Parsons
We have all heard it or some variation of it before… “If you keep doing the same thing over and over, then you better get used to the same result over and over.” Some authors have even penned these words as the very definition of INSANITY; to do the same thing over and over while expecting different results. I am pretty sure you know what I am talking about… So how true is this as it applies to the Nevada Medical Marijuana Community? To answer this, let’s first ask another question. It’s a question that I first had to ask myself in 2005. “Why hasn’t anybody challenged the constitutionality of this Patient Registry Card Program here in Nevada?” Hmmm…. I didn’t think that much about it at the time but that is what allowed me to make my first critical error when assessing the Patient Registry Card Program in Nevada. What was my mistake you ask? Simple, I took something for granted that I can almost guarantee 99.9% of all people do when it comes to our government and the people we entrust to carry out the affairs of the people, by the people, and most importantly - for the people. Did you know that it is not the Legislative Branch’s responsibility to know whether the laws they are discussing, writing and voting on are even constitutional? I was absolutely amazed by this information because I just assumed that in order for it to ever become an actual law that it HAD to be constitutional as well. I also just expected that somebody in the House of Representatives or the Senate would point out these unconstitutional issues (and they do all the time in their defense) during debates and these things would never become law, but guess what? Mistakes happen - obviously. People are still allowed to vote on and approve legislation that is unconstitutional, and then the Executive Branch can still sign off on it. (See NRS 453A.200, NRS 453A.300, and SB 374 that were all debated on, voted on, and signed into law without ever getting the constitutional litmus test). This by default leaves only one check in place from those all-powerful “checks and balances”
we were taught as school children… So I began to dig into NRS 453A and I honestly couldn’t believe that nobody had challenged this disingenuous and downright evil way to segregate patients, identify us, and then not provide safety for us while actually making it even easier for law enforcement agencies to violate our rights. And then, the most sinister part of the whole program? WE HAVE TO PAY MONEY FOR THIS SO CALLED PRIVILEGE! And on top of that, the program negates three constitutional rights! I’m sorry but the only thing my Marine Corps mind could think was “not on my watch,” the Constitution must be defended. I said right then and there that I could not tolerate these unpatriotic violations of my constitutional rights and I instantly made the decision to be part of the solution. This was November of 2008; I didn’t know at the time, but I had just finished watching one of the most blatant liars in the history of the presidency get elected and his lie is what would ultimately get us to the point we are at today, but hold on to that thought just a few weeks longer…we will get there. My company, MCCNV would be open in time for 2009 and the legislative session that would teach me once and for all that the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH IN NEVADA CAN’T HELP PATIENTS. They can patronize you; they can trick you---but they cannot help you get your rights back. That’s just a basic governmental fact. I had just endured the 2007 session that was pretty uneventful, but by 2009…things would be MUCH DIFFERENT in the Las Vegas valley. It was March of 2009 when I finally opened the doors to the Medical Cannabis Consultants of Nevada (MCCNV) and I had 2 main goals in opening the charity: 1.

Provide education and information to the Nevada people about cannabis. Provide the truth and let grown adults decide for themselves. Help people navigate the complicated and unpublicized system to acquire their medical right to cannabis use in Nevada while trying to gain support to challenge it through the courts.
The lessons I learned trying to open a simple patient resource charity in 2009 was what led me to realize that the legislature, city councils, special

commissions, and anything else less than a court room were just a waste of time. The law needed judicial review and it just wasn’t going to happen unless somebody sued the state of Nevada, but not a single attorney that I consulted would take the money to file the lawsuit I wanted to file; that is why I filed it myself. It would be a “conflict of interest” they told me. What? I’m going to have to teach myself law school now? The last 5 years have just validated what I had already experienced to be true and now it’s damn near impossible for me to sit still any longer. I believe that it’s time for a new approach in Nevada; an approach that is long overdue and largely necessary if we are to ever give credence to the people who passed on this voter approved initiative to legislators in 2000 that stated MARIJUANA IS MEDICINE and NEVADANS SHALL HAVE ADEQUATE METHODS OF SUPPLY. Our legislature and our legislative representatives at EVERY LEVEL HAVE FAILED US. No need to beat a dead horse to tell you how; the last 15 years speak for themselves. The new approach is simple. Sue Nevada in order to get the state to do what the people told them to in 2000 and do it without violating our rights! The first step in this process is the judicial review of the constitutionality of the entire registration process to begin with. This has never happened in program history until Parsons vs. Nevada. So, until we have a judge rule that the registration is constitutional or not, we can’t expect anything else that is done to carry any real effect for the people on the registry. This is unfortunately common sense. So there is no need for me to tell you anything further from here except this: The state of Nevada has finally been sued and I invite you all to come and witness it for yourselves. There will be more information coming next month. I hope to see you all at the courthouse when the date and time are announced for the first ever judicial review of our Medical Marijuana Patient Registry Card Program and I will make sure that Vegas Cannabis Magazine has updates for every issue.
DRAKKEN GLASS
Have you ever bought a piece of shit, Chinese pipe or bong to smoke out of? Of course you have. I bet you also dropped it, broke it, and forgot about it, then went back to the same local smoke shop to buy another and another. Stop it. Don’t spend another dollar on that crap. Did you know that we have over 15 local glass blowers right here in Las Vegas that turn out some bitchin stuff? I have been fascinated with custom marbles and glass pendants for some time now, and on my quest to find custom glass, I ran into a very interesting fella named Robert Raymond, owner of Drakken Glass. Robert creates his art at the Dope Ass Glass Studio, where he works in his own space next to several other glass blowers including Phat Jack and Zach Hannan. I discovered this local talent after being mesmerized by his glass dragon pipe mask at the High Times Cannabis Cup. He just finished a second mask pipe called the Oracle, featuring Medusa and some stoney frogs that he spent upwards of 150 hours making. Bottom line...these aren’t low budget production pieces. Even the smaller stuff takes time and talent to produce. Then there’s the cost of the materials and waste. When you spend just $10 or $20 more for a custom piece, you are enabling a local artist to exist. It’s cool to see “Made in the USA” blasted on American products, but how about “Made In Las Vegas”? Have some pride and buy local Las Vegas made glass.
I have had plenty of opportunities recently to chill with Robert, and sesh over this topic while brainstorming the details for this article. Las Vegas is way behind. I’m tired of seeing unfriendly smoke shops carrying cheap ass glass, and I’m tired of seeing people buying it. Most Las Vegas cannabis consumers don’t know about the custom glass, and when they find out, they are turned off that it costs a little bit more. The Chinese glass industry is hurting our economy. Let’s support our local glass blowers. Let’s get to know these artists, and wear their pendants. Let’s smoke fine cannabis from a custom blown, Drakken glass piece, made in Las Vegas. Everyone pull together a few more bucks, and drive a little bit further to some of the few smoke shops that carry locally made, custom glass. Tell every smoke shop that you frequent, to carry local glass, and get that foreign shit out of their store. Seriously, do that. Give them an ultimatum. Don’t support the generic smoke shops that don’t respect our culture.

BS: What pulled you into this industry? Was it weed? Was it fire? RR: Actually, my aunt gave me my first glass marbles when I was in the 5th grade. These weren’t ordinary marbles. These were soft glass, custom designed. Every year, my aunt would send marbles for presents. I spent a lot of time looking at them. BS: Do you have anyone to credit for teaching you this craft? RR: Nope. I’m mostly self-taught. I wasn’t taught by anyone in particular. I have picked up a lot of cool techniques from the friends I’ve made along the way. Some of my influences include Eusheen, Test 1, FatHeads, Jon Russell, Jon Mims, and T.J. BS: Tell us about some of the art that you create. RR: I started making pendants and rings, then moved on to pipes. Now, my favorite things to make are smokeable masks. I’ve done a ton of production. I also really enjoy making pendants. BS: What inspired you to make masks? RR: I like masquerades, Phantom of the Opera. BS: Do you smoke a lot of pot? RR: Not like a ton, but maybe a few ounces here and there. BS: I saw that you made a custom piece for B-Real, AKA Dr. Greenthumb. I bet you both were stoked about it. Did you get to smoke with him? RR: Yeah, I was also interviewed by him on the Dr. Greenthumb show. I’ve blazed it with him a couple times. He’s a cool dude. Having listened to Cypress Hill growing up, it was great to connect with him and put a Drakken piece in his collection. B-Real has done and continues to do big things for the culture. Reciprocity and Non-Resident Patients By: Derek J. Connor Esq.
It’s no secret that Nevada cannabis businesses are looking to tourists to help support Nevada’s emerging cannabis industry. It is important for patients and business owners to understand that Nevada law explicitly provides for the recognition of out of state patients when they are within Nevada so long as they abide by Nevada’s rules. Nevada law provides for the following:
• the patient agrees to abide by Nevada law while in the state of Nevada Starting on April 1, 2018, Nevada law will no longer require nonresident patients to sign an affidavit, but it will require the nonresident patient’s state to have a database that is accessible to the state of
The State of Nevada and the medical marijuana dispensaries in this State will recognize a nonresident card only under the following circumstances: • the nonresident patient’s state allows for the use of medical marijuana • the nonresident patient’s state requires as a prerequisite that the patient received approval from a physician • the card or letter of recommendation has an expiration date that has not yet expired • the patient signs an affidavit that states the patient is entitled to use medical marijuana
Nevada in order to verify the validity of the patient’s out of state card. In summary, nonresident patients are provided the same protections as Nevada residents so long as they comply with Nevada law regarding marijuana use. For example, they may purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana or its equivalent amount of edible products
or extracts. However, they may not use in public and they may not provide marijuana to non-patients, among other restrictions. Yet, several local governments including the City of Las Vegas and Clark County have restricted delivery. Dispensaries located in the City of Las Vegas or unincorporated Clark County may only deliver to Nevada patients in the patients’ homes. Therefore, nonresident patients will have to go to the dispensaries to purchase their medicine. It will be important that dispensaries and patients get familiar with the legal and regulatory requirements of selling to Nevada and nonresident patients. Furthermore, dispensaries should educate nonresident patients on what is permitted by Nevada law as the patients’ home states may permit different amounts to be purchased or possessed. Finally, while a nonresident patient may purchase product while visiting Nevada, it is important to note that patients cannot bring their medicine into Nevada and cannot take medicine out of Nevada. What is purchased in Nevada should be used in Nevada. The foregoing, is provided for informational purposes only. When Just Any Ole’ Spot Won’t Do, Come Home to “The Other Spot” By Mindi Griffiths
Now that recreational cannabis use is legal in Oregon many people are looking for a safe place to consume their weed. Often apartments have no-smoking clauses and it is not permissible to smoke pot in public. Visitors from out-of-town need a place to medicate and everybody knows you can’t smoke in your rental car. So where can the law abiding cannabis consumer enjoy a joint without risking getting sent to the joint? For the people of the legal green state, they have a favorite place to go, The Other Spot, a private cannabis club located in southeast Portland. Although smoking weed is great, the mission of The Other Spot is more than just providing a place to smoke pot. Nickie D. Dank, one of the owners of The Other Spot, described the purpose of the club as, “a place where all people are welcomewe are bridging gaps among neighboring
communities and the ‘green’ community. We always try to show great STONERISM.” Nickie and the crew feel it is important to show the reality of who cannabis consumers really are, everyday people. They want to knock down the stereotypes and misconceptions people have about “stoners” and prove that a community of ‘pot’ heads can be good and productive neighbors. While there, patrons enjoy the pool table, shuffle board, TV room, dab bar and all the comfort items and amenities needed to enjoy cannabis, including munchies! What Is The Best Way For You To Consume Cannabis? By: Anthony Franciosi
When it comes to consuming cannabis, users now have more options than ever. It’s hard to recognize the “best” form of consumption, especially since new methods of consuming marijuana are popping up all the time. Smoking is the oldest practice, but vaporizers are becoming rather popular. As far as edibles go, we can now enjoy practically any food we want with THC included. Plus, there are now oils, sprays, and even cannabisinfused lotions. The “best” method of consuming cannabis really depends on your preferences and how you prioritize convenience, price, strength, health, etc. In this article, we tackle the ins and outs of 14 ways to consume marijuana in order to help you determine which method is best for you.
The Sensation of Inhalation (Smoking) Smoking is the fastest way to deliver THC to the consumer, since the cannabinoids enter the body through the lungs and are then passed along directly into the user’s bloodstream, causing an instant effect. Smoking is also the most damaging to the lungs, since you are smoking the plant material and perhaps additional papers. Like fast food, it’s quick and gets the job done, though it may hinder your afternoon jog. One benefit the smoking options below provide is that it’s easy to monitor the dosage size, making it less likely to over consume and get “too high.”

Not to mention, many famous celebrities endorse this style. For example, Snoop Lion and Wiz Khalifa publicly endorse this style when they talk about “smoking blunts” and “rolling Js”.
Pipes and Bowls: These are an even
quicker and easier way to consume marijuana. Just light up, inhale, and you’re good to go. They are just as effective as joints and blunts, though it may not taste as good since there’s no paper included. Bowls usually need to be lit once for each hit, which can be great if you want to save some of the bowl for later use, but very inconvenient if you’re outside on a windy day.
Safety Precaution: In times of desperation, you may look to the remaining resin in your bowl as the last chance to get high. This is not recommended, because resin has a low THC to ash, carbon, and tar ratio. Smoking resin also heats up your bowl very quickly, making it easy to get burned in the process. Bongs: Probably the king of marijuana
paraphernalia, bongs come in all shapes and sizes and can often be quite aesthetic. Bongs often make great decoration pieces as well. A popular bong form is a gravity bong, which is a creative bong that uses gravity to force the smoke in a chamber. Making them takes a little work, but it’s a fun way to consume cannabis and it will get its users extremely stoned.
Joints: Some users
(especially in Europe where cigarette smoking is more prevalent) like to load their joints with a hybrid of tobacco and cannabis for an extra head high. Either way, one hit of a joint and you feel it instantly.
Blunts: Blunts are similar
to a joint, but rolled with cigar papers instead. Blunts are thicker and hold more

Bubblers: Bubblers are basically miniature bongs, usually small enough to fit in your pocket. Like bongs, bubblers allow time for the smoke to cool down, making it easier for the user to take bigger hits, which equals bigger effects. Dabs: Also known as BHO (Butane Hash Oil), dabs are extremely potent hash oil smoked with a rig, much like a bong bowl, except with a blowtorch. Dabbing is essentially a flash-vaporization method, but it is much more intense. It looks quite dangerous, though it’s actually healthier than inhaling smoke, since this vapor is free of plant material. However, this potent option is certainly not for beginners. Dabbing has been nicknamed the “crack” of pot, so use at your own risk. No matter how you inhale it, all of these methods of smoking mentioned above (with the exception of dabs) contain extra chemicals due to the burning of the cannabis flower. For those of you who are happy to forgo the act of smoking in order to avoid these chemicals, read on to see the multitude of easy and effective alternatives.
Vaporizers Vaporizing is quite similar to smoking, but it heats the marijuana rather than burn it. Thus, in contrast to smoking, vaporization eliminates the potential pain in the lungs and throat that comes from the exposure to heat and burned organic matter. However, there is no scientific evidence proving that smoking marijuana has more detrimental health results as compared to vaporizing. We can only conclude that vaporizing is less harmful. Vaporizers (also known as vapes) come in all shapes and sizes. The godfather of them is the volcano, which has been around since before marijuana was legal in the United States’ decriminalized states. Though, due to its high price and large size, smaller vapes have recently become popular. There are now handheld and portable vapes that fit easily in your pocket-- it doesn’t get much more convenient than that! Vaporizers can also be used with oils. When vaping oils, a lot of these forms of marijuana contain up to 80% THC (compared to
Special Feature 5-25% flowers). As its THC percentage indicates, this has a much stronger effect on the body. Vapes are widely known as the “healthiest” form of consumption, but just because it is “less unhealthy” does not make it “healthy”. If you’re looking for ways to improve your lung capacity, we suggest regular exercise.
Capsules: Just like any other drug or
No Inhaling? No Problem! If you’re not a fan of smoking or vaping, you’re lucky to live in a period where you’ve got dozens of options. Name a food and there’s probably a cannabis recipe for it. But, food isn’t the only oral way you can enjoy THC anymore. No matter the method, when cannabis is consumed orally, the ingestion is slower and the effects tend to be strong. On average, users who consume marijuana orally tend to feel the effects at a minimum of 30 minutes later. Sometimes the effects are not felt until over an hour later. The peak effects from oral consumption usually come around the two-hour mark, and the effects can last up to six hours and even longer depending on the user. The effects from oral consumption are stronger due to the fact that when cannabis is digested, the cannabinoids undergo a chemical transformation that makes them stronger. Not to mention, it is much harder to track the dosage in edibles. Dispensaries are regulated, but if someone hands you a brownie at a concert, you have no way of knowing how much cannabis it contains and how high the THC content is. It takes anywhere from 30-120 minutes to feel the full effects, making it easy for inexperienced users to consume too much only to suffer the consequences an hour or two later.

If you want to avoid smoking and don’t want to wait for the effects of the edibles to kick in, then tinctures are your new best friend. Just place a few drops on your tongue and you will enjoy the effects anywhere between five and fifteen minutes later (unlike an edible that requires more time). Just like smoking, the effects its users will feel will vary based on the strain of marijuana. Because tinctures are an alcoholic extract, they are odorless. This makes them extremely convenient for use in any situation, whether you’re at a public movie theater or waiting in a long line at the best burger joint in town.

Topicals: Rub it and reap…the benefits! Not looking for a head high? You’ve still got options. Opt for lotions that have been infused with cannabis. Like any other lotion, it is applied directly to the skin, normally to relieve pain, soreness, or inflammation in a given area. This method has no psychoactive effects, so if you’re looking to leave your mind unaffected, then topicals are a great option. So, there you have it, fourteen ways to fulfill your cannabis needs. Now, it’s up to you to get out there and try them out in order to figure out what works best for you. Dr. Greenthumb Guacamole Ingredients: • 4 Avocados (Peeled, Pitted, & Mashed) • 2 Limes (Juiced) • 2 Cups Pico de Gallo • 3 Tbsp Cannabis Oil • 2 Tsp Finely Ground Cannabis (Decarbed) • Salt and Pepper to Taste Directions: First, put all ingredients into medium mixing bowl. Mix and mash all ingredients thoroughly. Place in fridge for 1 to 2 hours then serve!

Pico De Gallo
Ingredients: • 2 Medium Tomatoes • 2 Onions • 1 Freshly Seeded Jalapeño Pepper • 4 Sprigs Cilantro (Chopped) • 1 Tsp Garlic (Minced) • 2 Green Onions (Chopped) • Directions: Put all ingredients into bowl and mix.
Cannabis Oil The NOT so secret ingredient: The Happy Chef Cannabis Oil. I have listed amounts of cannabis used as a dosage from regular to strong. I suggest to start with the regular as I do not know which strain you are using. Remember, you can always eat more! Ingredients: • 4 cups oil • 1/2 oz of cannabis REGULAR • 3/4 oz of cannabis MIDS • 1 oz of cannabis STRONG Method: First, pour whatever oil you decided to use into a large skillet or double boiler. Put your stove top on a medium heat setting. Let it warm up...DO NOT let it boil...this is VERY important for quality cannabis oil. Now, once your oil is hot you may add your finely ground cannabis into the skillet. Then TURN DOWN heat so it is just below simmering! Make sure you stir frequently and watch out for boiling...DO NOT let it come to a boil - BUBBLES ARE BAD! If you start to see it bubbling just remove from heat and let it cool down. You are going to continue this for 3-4 hours. Every hour take a wooden spoon and dip in oil and make a dot on a white plate. You will see the oil go from clear to dark green. You want it a good shade of green. Do not cook any less than 2 hours or more than 6 hours. You risk under extraction and scorching. After approximately 4 hours, turn off heat and let oil COOL DOWN...let it cool enough so you do not burn yourself. Then, grab cheesecloth or a metal strainer and strain to remove all oil from cannabis into a container of your choice. (I use jars). Shelf life is around 2 months. You may also put in freezer for a longer shelf life. Discard cannabis in cheese cloth/strainer. Fusing hip hop, graffiti, & glassblowing, Ethereal has definitely made a lasting imprint in the Vegas community. I recently had a chance to catch up with him.
ETHEREAL: Yeah, I really like making those, especially the sneak-a-toe pendant pipes. I’ll definitely be making more of those. As far as in the works, watch out for my Killer Clown pieces, my magic mushroom rigs, and my next millie projects.
DA: How long have you been blowing glass? How did you get started? ETHEREAL: I made my first pipe around 1999/2000, & I kind of just fell into it by accident. I was doing graphic design & printing shirts for a local business called Phat Jacks, when the owner started getting into distributing glass, not long after that, he ended up paying a glassblower from Seattle to give me some lessons & I’ve been addicted ever since. Fifteen years later and I still go to work happy every day, eager to learn something new or start a new project. DA: One of my favorite pieces you do is the replica Vincent Van Gogh Ear pendant. What was the inspiration behind making that piece? ETHEREAL: I was actually inspired to try to make a glass ear by the movie Full Metal Jacket, when the dude loses his shit and makes a necklace of human ears with his dog tag chain, but my friend Heather Scarano saw them and said they reminded her of Van Gogh & I know a good idea when I hear one. DA: You recently started delving into the glass millies, how did you get started on that, what are some of the images you’ve made so far? ETHEREAL: A little over a year ago an old friend of mine from L.A. (Rocko Glass) moved here to Vegas & taught me how to make millie/murrini. My first image was A Clockwork Orange, then Dexter’s Laboratory, the recycle logo, E=MC2, Gorilla Radio (with Rocko), Deadpool, Neil deGrasse Tyson (with Rocko), ALF (w Rocko), KRS-ONE, the pi symbol (with Rocko), Medizin Dispensary, Stonecutters (Simpsons), and Skeletor. It’s been a crazy year & I can’t thank Rocko enough, nor could I have asked for a better teacher when it comes to millie/murrini. DA: I have always liked the zombie fingers and sneak-a-toes. Are you making any more of those? And, what do you have in the works?
DA: A few years ago you won the gold medal at the CHAMPS Glass Games, what did you make for that, and have you won any other medals or competed since then? ETHEREAL: BMFT & I got the gold in the 2013 glass games for the “Multi-Talent Competition” where we performed our written songs & kicked freestyles while we were on our torches making a wireless mic rig. That win put us both in the finals 6 months later, where I did a meditating robot, but due to time constraints was unable to finish. I haven’t competed since then, but I got my eye on next year’s Glass Games. DA: How do you think Las Vegas should handle cannabis legalization? ETHEREAL: I’ve always advocated decriminalization. In my opinion, legalizing marijuana puts the power and the profit in the wrong hands, and I have mixed feelings about where this “legalization” seems to be going, but Vegas is a huge tourist destination & allowing recreational use here would bring in a lot of money from both tourists & locals. DA: What’s your opinion on cannabis? ETHEREAL: I love it. DA: What’s your favorite strain? ETHEREAL: OG, Woody, or Monster Cookies (flowers) and Tangie (extracts) DA: Closing thoughts?
