HKCC DESIGN YEAR BOOK 2022

Foreword / / This year, we are celebrating design learning again in our Design Annual Show 2022 where the fruits of students’ efforts are on display. Design learning experience is an experimental process through trial and error in order to fulfil a purpose or a need derived from research. The ingredients of the visual experiments come literally from the everyday experience of the design learner, such as a shadow she sees, a drink he tastes, or a new friend she meets. The ingredients next go through the blender of imagination to be shaken up, decomposed and reshaped. How about…? Have you seen that…? What if…? Constant talking and tasting are indispensable in this process to manipulate the form and meaning. Resting the dough is also a crucial step from time to time to let the mind adjust and fine-tune its vision. Eventually, an elegant design solution emerges somewhere on the horizon as coherent, novel and practical, all ready for interaction in this world.
