Bees have become a common symbol for wedding stationery and decor, seen on everything from whimisical, sugar figurine cake toppers, to vintage illustration inspired stamps. Perhaps it is their royal persona, a regal presence of a singulary queen, or just the bewitchingly sweet gold they produce in their perfect, geometrically constructed combs. Whatever the reason for their popularity, one thing is for sure - their distinctive yellow hue is easily paired with a multitude of colors. In particular, the rich, Vermont autumnal reds, oranges, and deep plum have a dramatic appeal that speaks to the mysterious nature of the bee.

" Take a moment during the day to step back and soak it all in. A family friend grabbed us during the wedding and told us to look around us, and feel the love in the room. It’s one of my clearest memories of a day that went by in a blur."

How and where did you meet?

Jack and I met studying abroad in Wales.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding?

My family has had connections to Vermont since before I was born, and when we graduated from college in New York and Massachusetts, we moved to Vermont. We love Vermont!

What song did you choose for your first dance?

Our first dance was to “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

How did your vendors help make your wedding day perfect?

Sandy Marquis, our florist, surprised us by moving the flowers decorating the arbor into the barn over our “lovebirds” table. All the flowers were stunning and blew us away. Leigh from White Rocks Inn was incredible at coordinating all the details that made the day perfect. She provided many of the accents to the barn that make it feel cozy and warm.

How and where did you meet?

Evan and Andrea met at UVM in 2005. Andrea was finishing her senior year, and Evan had graduated the year before.

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding?

Vermont is a very special place for both Andrea and Evan. Evan grew up in Derby, Vermont just a few miles from the wedding venue. How did you choose your venue?

Evan and Andrea scouted wedding venues for quite some time and couldn’t quite find the right place that checked everything off the list…somewhere special, rustic, big enough to fit their family and friends, inexpensive, DIY’able and laid back. Evan’s mother suggested they check out a local barn that had recently begun to host different functions. They met with the couple that owns the property and knew right away that it was for them! It checked everything off the list and more!

What was your favorite detail from your wedding?

There were so many special details! The “Sugar Shack,” included hot apple cider, apple cider donuts (Andrea and Evan’s favorite) and other maple treats. Another was the Polaroid guest book. It was so fun to go through after the wedding!

What were some of your favorite moments?

The speeches at dinner were all so heartfelt and hilarious, the speakers had put so much thought into preparing them. Andrea’s dad performed a song that was special for the couple after dinner which promptly led to an epic dance party for most of the evening.

How did your vendors help make your wedding day perfect?

The vendors were incredible. North Photography captured all of the special moments and more, they did such a fantastic job of providing just enough direction, making everything so seamless and easy. Dancing Sails Catering took care of everything! Since the venue was primarily DIY, the couple really needed to rely on the caterer for much more. They did a fantastic job of coordinating throughout the night.

What was the proposal like?

Josh flew me to San Antonio, Texas where my grandparents became engaged many years ago. I was really close to my grandparents, so the trip to Texas was special to me. On our last night in San Antonio, Josh and I spent a romantic evening on the famous River Walk. Before the romantic evening came to an end we decided to grab some ice-cream and walk it one last time. Josh brought me back to the part of it where couples come from all over the world to get married. He told me to sit on one of the heart-shaped benches so we could talk. He began to question me about this iron sculpture that represented marriage. He asked me what I saw in the sculpture, and I said, “Two hands, two hearts, and a cross…” then he said, “What’s that thing near the left hand?” and I responded, “Oh, that must be the ring.” He instantly turned my head, opened up a beautiful box with a gorgeous, sparkling diamond and said, “Kind of like this ring?” I was in shock. He popped the question, “Will you marry me?” and of course I responded, “Yes!” 84 | VERMONT BRIDE SUM MER/FALL 2015

Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding?

Josh and I were both born and raised in Vermont so our state was dear to our hearts. Getting married in Vermont was also so convenient for our family and friends and having them witness our marriage was important to us. We planned a fall wedding and what greater place to experience gorgeous foliage and fall weather other than our home state, Vermont!

How did you choose your venue?

Josh and I loved everything about The Middlebury Inn. We wanted to plan an elegant wedding with a vintage twist, which we found at the Inn. It offered a gorgeous ballroom, with elegant chandelier lighting, a vintage atmosphere, an onsite spa and a stunning private mansion for our wedding party. They were also able to accommodate our rehearsal dinner, our wedding of 150 people, and offer accommodations and brunch for friends and family. It was a one stop shop for all of us!

What was your theme/color palette?

Our wedding colors were traditional black and white with a theme called, “Hung Up On Love.” Our theme represented us because we were very much, hung up on our love!

What were some of your favorite moments?

Being introduced for the first time as Mr. & Mrs. Joshua Bilodeau was a dream come true. It was the ultimate moment! It was the beginning of our love story, a forever love story that would continue to be written from that moment forward.

What song did you choose for your first dance?

Our first dance was, “She’s Everything” by Brad Paisley. Every lyric of the song perfectly describes our relationship as a couple; we swear the song was written for us.
