s all New England residents know, our seasons are short and change quickly. In this issue, we make the best of each in Seasons of Love. Winter windows frosted with nature’s blueprint, spring’s soft color palettes, gentle breezes of summer and rich, deep hues of autumn. Choose your groom, choose your season. Over the past decades, through these pages, we’ve been fortunate to meet hundreds of couples. The theme is always love. The way in which they choose to represent that common denominator is always interesting and diverse. We see touches of that in our Inspiration sections: Marvelously Modern (stripes and bright polka dots), Elegant and Timeless and free-flowing Beautiful Bohemian (vintage and casual). All brides are beautiful and, speaking of beauty: Have you seen Beauty and the Beast? If so, you will especially appreciate the Baroque Elegant Inspiration layout, fairy-tale charming. Which style can you relate to? Whatever your vision, whatever you can imagine, our vendors can make it real. They are some of the most honest and ‘salt-of-the-earth’ people we know. Weddings are their livelihood, their expertise. Many have been with us since our very early days. A testament to the longevity and authenticity of Vermont Bride. We are thrilled to have some share their views into Vermont weddings with Wedding Bliss—an overview of their favorite trends and common mistakes that they see couples make. Invaluable experience just for you. As always, we bring you Real Weddings: DIY touches, a unity tree planting during the ceremony, burlap decor, rustic details and a gorgeous brooch bouquet are just a few of our favorite elements. Thanks to all the brides and grooms who helped make this summer and fall issue 100 percent genuine by sharing their stories and memories. Page after page, season after season, Vermont Bride has been here for your planning, reference, and inspiration. Enjoy all that our beautiful state has to offer, whatever the calendar shows.
From all of us, to all of you, cheers!

HOW LONG HAS HAVE YOUR CAKE CATERING BEEN IN BUSINESS? The Skinny Pancake has been doing some sort of catering since 2008, and grew into its own company in 2011. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT CATERINGÂ SERVICES THAT HAVE YOUR CAKE CATERING OFFERS FOR WEDDINGS AND EVENTS? We offer rehearsal dinner, reception, and brunch catering which can be a plated, sit down dinner or a more casual buffet. We also can provide bar service, including beer, wine, and cocktails. Have Your Cake Catering can even custom craft a signature cocktail just for your event! In addition to bringing everything we need for the food and drinks, we can also help you with linen and tableware rentals. PLEASE SHARE WITH US A SAMPLE MENU OR POPULAR ITEMS THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR A WEDDING RECEPTION: While we're certainly known for our crepes, HYCC is able to offer more variety than our sister company, The Skinny Pancake. But like our creperie friends, we try to source all things local! From an Artisanal Vermont Cheese display for an appetizer to the Misty Knoll Orchard Chicken entree, we do our best to provide you and 12 | VERMONTBRIDEM AGA ZINE.COM | SUM MER/FALL 2017
your guests with the best the Green Mountain State has to offer. When it comes to desserts, we like to recommend our Crepe bites with raw VT Honey and Cinnamonsugar, but we can also whip up some fresh whoopie pies or some amazing minicupcakes. Let us know what you have in mind, and we'll find a way to put a Vermont spin on it! WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST MEMORABLE CATERING EXPERIENCE FOR A WEDDING? Each one has its own amazing memories because of some of the beautiful places across the state that we get to travel too. Believe it or not, but the rainy ones have been some of our favorites! WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR COUPLES WHO ARE IN THE PLANNING STAGES FOR THEIR RECEPTION CATERING? Less is more. No matter what you're going to have an amazing day so focus less on the small stuff leading up to and rest assured, if you hire the right people to take care of you, they'll make sure you have a magical day!

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST MEMORABLE CAKE OR DESSERT THAT YOU CREATED FOR A WEDDING?
My favorite occasion was a local wedding where I was asked to do a "dessert buffet" for a large wedding. It consisted of a two-tiered cake, four varieties of mini cupcakes, mini maple cheesecakes, mini cream cheese brownies and ten pies(five flavors). It was a lot of fun and made such a beautiful display with lots of variety for the bride and groom and their guests. WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR COUPLES WHO ARE PLANNING WHAT CAKE OR DESSERTS TO OFFER AT THEIR RECEPTION?
I always tell my couples to go with whatever moves them! There are no "rules" for wedding desserts and the sky is the limit so follow your taste buds. I've done weddings that have run the gamut of variety in dessert choices to just a simple tiered cake. We can customize your wedding desserts to suit you and your guests. The sky is the limit..

pring is the season for beginnings. Delicate blooms of fragrant flowers, tiny buds of leaves on the trees awakening from their winter slumber, and joyful songs from the birds returning to their nests. Full of hope and fresh with vibrant sights and smells, it is a favorite season for couples to start their new, life long, journey together. Start with soft, delicate colors contrasted with pops of bright greens and warm gold tones. A custom designed wedding gown features a vintage corset top, a sweetheart neckline, and a soft and delicate long tulle ballerina skirt. Top it off with gorgeous golden fondant cakes decorated with textured floral patterns and hand-made sugar flowers. Ruby jeweled glasses and gold accented place settings give this design a feminine and elegant feel.

hic and casual is the way to go for a free-spirited soiree with little fuss but lots of feminine style. Soft pinks and greens perfectly compliment a naturally blushing bride, adorned with a crown of flowers and long flowing wavy hair. Tables are adorned with delicate, heirloom lace and arrangements of mismatched glass jars filled with fragrant blooms. A single feather adds a touch of nature to the place cards. The vintage bus makes an eye-catching statement and doubles as a fun photo booth while elegant, antique furnishings balance out the laidback vibe. Florals, feathers, brass, and wood all come together to create a pleasing palette for this informal, yet elegant, style.

istorical romances, especially those from fairy tales, are making a big comeback in today's wedding themes. Price Charming, fairies, and magic roses are the stuff little girls dream of and so it comes as no big surprise that they want to incorporate a little of that storybook feel into their weddings. Some things—like crystal chandeliers, gold accents, and red roses—never go out of style. Add in some rich velvet, a long flowing gown and veil and you have the perfect setting for a once-in-alifetime story that ends with true love's kiss.

How and where did you meet? We met during our freshman year in history class at Ithaca College. I used to sit next to Dan every day and nervously start conversation with him about a known common interest—the Red Sox! I waited for Dan to ask me out on a date, but little did I know I would have to wait five more years for that to happen. We both went our separate ways in college, but remained in the same circle of friends. As fate would have it, my college roommate would help us reconnect five years after meeting. I visited Dan in New York City and as they say, the rest is history. We spent the next year and eight months traveling between Boston and New York City each weekend to spend a couple of days together. Finally, Dan moved to Boston , where we are now working, and are enjoying the lack of bus rides we have to take each month! What was the proposal like? We spent a gorgeous day at Bolton Valley skiing in perfect sunshine while some mysterious helpers went to the barn at Sleepy Hollow to set up some carefully crafted decorations. We returned home from skiing and were getting ready to head out for a romantic dinner when we saw the barn at Sleepy Hollow glowing in the moonlight. Dan strategically guided us up the snowy path to the entrance of the barn and we peeked inside the barn. Although I was a little concerned that we were walking in on someone's romantic night, I quickly found out it was our romantic night when we walked up to the balcony of the barn and found a cake with our initials inscribed on the side and turned around to see Dan on one knee. With a mix of surprise and happiness, I said yes. YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING SE ARCH SIMPLIFIED!

love story
Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? We chose Vermont because Dan grew up in Hinesburg and I have always been drawn to the beautiful scenery and charm of Vermont. Vermont holds a very special place in our hearts, so there was no question that we wanted to exchange our vows in front of the beautiful backdrop of the Green Mountains! How did you choose your venue? We were excited to celebrate our wedding day at The Ponds at Bolton Valley, which is at the base of the mountain where we skied the day of the proposal. When we visited the venue we immediately knew that we wanted to get married there. It was secluded and provided a breathtaking view of Camel’s Hump and a beautiful pond. Inside the venue we had the feeling of being in an Adirondack lodge, something that we both valued because we have spent time together exploring the Adirondacks. What was your theme/color palette? The theme of the wedding was rustic-chic. The colors were peach/cantaloupe and sage green. I collected vintage lace placemats, runners and pink depression glass bread plates. How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? We took great pride in planning an evening that was unique to us and our interests. We had hockey pucks as place cards as I had played ice hockey since I was ten years old. Instead of favors, we made a donation in our guests’ names to an orphanage that we volunteered at in Kenya, Africa the summer prior to our wedding. We had a candy bar and Ben and Jerry’s cart reflecting our love of sweets. We really wanted our wedding to feel like a big party, not only celebrating us as a couple, but also highlighting our amazing families and friends. My family was incredibly helpful by doing all of the flowers and decorations helping us create the magical day that we were hoping for.

love story What were some of your favorite moments? We celebrated on Friday with a dinner cruise on the Northern Lights with a gorgeous sunset over Lake Champlain. Josh Duger, (my brother), was our officiant and did an excellent job personalizing the ceremony. The entire reception gathered on the deck at dusk and lit celebratory sparklers. Our band was phenomenal and had all of our guests dancing the entire evening. Dan was able to play the drums with the band at the reception.

How and where did you meet? We first met in 2006 while working at the same college summer job. Although we worked together almost every day that summer, we didn’t get to know each other until three and a half years later when a mutual friend invited us to the same New Year’s Eve party. We immediately recognized each other, got to talking, and hit it off. When we went on our first date, we both talked about wanting to learn how to salsa dance, so when Jon agreed off the bat to sign up for a package of six dance lessons—AKA six more dates—I knew he was “the one.” And the rest is history! What was the proposal like? For our five-year anniversary (which happened to fall in the middle of February), Jon surprised me with a weekend getaway to Long Island’s North Fork, which is a place I told him I always wanted to return to after a winery bike tour we took earlier in the year. Jon drove through a pretty terrible blizzard to get to Wolffer Estate Vineyard, where he had planned to propose because the vines are lit up in the winter. After some liquid courage, Jon suggested that we go outside to take a picture in front of the lit-up vines, and that’s when he got down on one knee and proposed. The falling snow made it extra romantic. He drove back through even worse conditions to get to our dinner reservation and when we got back to the hotel room he had dozens of red roses, champagne, and pastries from my favorite Italian bakery waiting! The next day, we drove back to New Jersey to celebrate with our families. Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? We have always been skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, and consider Vermont to be our favorite ski destination on the East coast. We were also looking for a location away from the NYC area that was far enough to be considered a destination wedding, but not so far that no one would come. We really wanted to spend a quality weekend outside in the mountains with our family and friends, because being outside in the mountains always makes us feel happy and at peace. Even though we had originally anticipated a winter wedding, Vermont’s sheer natural beauty and variety of activities in the summer won us over, in addition to better driving and flying conditions for our guests. love story What was your theme/color palette? The color palette was light pink and white, with metallic accents. We didn’t have a theme in mind but rather a specific feel. We wanted a very soft, romantic look, with a lot of low lighting, candles, and beautiful flowers and greenery everywhere. We also did not want high centerpieces because we think those tend to make a room look stuffy and too formal for our taste. What was your favorite detail from your wedding? Our dessert bar and the take away “Mr. & Mrs. Sellitto” dessert boxes were awesome! We also loved our floral arrangements, bakers rack turned escort card holder draped in flowers and our gorgeous arbor and centerpieces. We both went into the planning process not really caring about flowers. We now have a whole new outlook on them and have started adding more plants and flowers to our apartment! What were some of your favorite moments? The horses running around in the background during our ceremony—they actually stopped right behind us while we were saying our vows, which was so memorable. Speaking of vows, we also loved writing our own vows and then hearing each other’s vows, which we kept a secret from each other until the wedding. We also loved that we got to spend time enjoying the outdoors with our friends and family that weekend. We planned a bike ride around Stowe followed by lunch at a brewery the morning of the rehearsal, and that was so much fun.

What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? Go with your gut. Seriously, the vendors that we had the best gut feeling about and just hit it off with, we ended up having a fantastic experience with and the end product was amazing. If you get a bad feeling or just don’t hit it off with a vendor, you’re going to be in for a long road. Especially if you’re having a longer engagement and planning process, like we did. Some vendors that we chose for one reason or another, but we maybe didn’t have a good gut feeling about…well, we definitely noticed a difference and it was not worth the stress. Don’t rush decision making or feel pressured to make certain decisions—you’re spending a lot of time and money so make sure you’re getting want you want and are paying for. Also, we are so happy that we decided to hire a videographer. We now have an amazing video that we’re obsessed with and we can show to our future children and watch on all of our anniversaries.

love story
How and where did you meet? Michael and I met at a Medical School orientation party in Burlington, VT. I remember seeing him from across the room and the first thing I noticed was how cool his shoes were. I made a point to introduce myself by the end of the night and the rest is history. What was the proposal like? We were living in California for our residencies at Stanford. We were planning on traveling home to celebrate Christmas in Vermont with our families but we decided to have a small celebration and exchange gifts before heading East. When we were done exchanging gifts he surprised me with one more—a beautiful necklace from Tiffany. When I turned around after putting it on he was there waiting with the ring and asked me to marry him. It was perfect timing too since we had the chance to celebrate with our families over Christmas the following week. Why did you choose Vermont for your wedding? Neither of us ever considered having our wedding anywhere else. We both grew up here (me in Middlebury and Mike in Montpelier) and this is where we met and our relationship started. Vermont is such a special place to us both. We really wanted all of our out-of-town-friends and family to have the chance to experience this beautiful place. How did you choose your venue? With both of us busy with our medical residencies and living in California we relied heavily on our parents to help with the venue hunting. We knew we wanted the ceremony and reception to be in one location so guests didn’t have to travel in between and we wanted a place that showed off the beauty of Vermont. Vermont Bride was a great starting place to help narrow down our search and find information on different venues and locations. YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING SE ARCH SIMPLIFIED!

love story What was your theme/color palette? I guess rustic chic was our theme. Our theme kind of developed over time as we worked with our florist and Firefly Events. I knew I wanted some pops of color with the flowers and bridesmaid dresses as well as incorporating greenery and wood to make a rustic feel. What was your favorite detail from your wedding? Flowers, flowers, and more flowers. I also loved that we were able to source almost all the food and beverages locally which meant a lot to us since we had so many outof-town-guests we wanted to show off what Vermont had to offer. How did your wedding reflect your relationship as a couple? We love to entertain and host guests and I feel like our entire weekend of events really showed that. We wanted our celebration to have a fun, laid back vibe but also wanted to be sure our guests were attended to and felt comfortable, which is our philosophy when we host people at our home. We also incorporated many special Vermont details that were special to us like our signature cocktails made with our favorite local spirits and some of our favorite Vermont cheeses spread throughout the cocktail hour. What were some of your favorite moments? Our first look was very special, and a moment I will never forget. Our first dance was a lot of fun. Neither of us consider ourselves to be good dancers so this was something I was a bit nervous about. But we decided we just wouldn’t put any pressure on ourselves and it turned out great.

love story What advice would you give other couples planning their wedding? Wow, so many things. The day goes by so much faster than you can imagine. Take the time to really be in the moment and enjoy being surrounded by all the people in your life that love and care about you. Also make sure to eat. I didn’t believe it when I was told by so many people that you will be too busy to eat, but it is true—steal a bite here and there when you can and make sure you have a plate put away for later.
