Hi... An exciting year ahead! We now have a great team of committee members spreading the load of work, we are all motivated and planning away with an almost full calendar of events for 2014. The latest addition to the events is a York Camping trip and cruise in June. Be sure to keep your eye on the events calendar on our website. Any questions can be asked by using our forum and please try to post up if you are interested this helps us plan and often spurs more to join the fun. On a personal note I have parted ways with my Split kombi – good news is “she” is staying within the club. The new bus is on the forum. I have a build thread on the go in the Your Projects section along with 2 other members split screen kombis. We have added a Water-Cooled thread to the forum too. Paul “pkuaso” is the moderator. He has a wealth of Technical knowledge – when I say wealth, what he knows is unbelievable! See Paul’s post “Christmas Break 2013 Project Passat”... He has many contacts too so jump on and say hi and show us your rides and what upgrades you have done. Have a great year, we hope to see you at an event or 12. Jamie Barrett Club President

Hi Folks, The South West VW meets in Busselton have been running every month for over 18th months and although they have been a great success, the best turnouts are in the warmer months when a cruise or lunch has been organised. Therefore with the idea to focus on more cruises, lunches etc., during the warmer months, the SW monthly meets will now only run from January through to June. However, even with this change keep an eye out here in ViaWest or on the Club events page or forum for other ‘one-off’ VW events in the South West. Such an event has been the popular Vee Dubs@Busselton Drive-in that has run for the last two years. A major event will be on again so put the first weekend in November in your calendar… Friday 31st Oct, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd November 2014.
Meelup cruise and BBQ The South West Monthly Gathering @ Busso held on Sunday 12th January. It was definitely hot in Busso when 6 peeps turned up. Meelup was busy so we had to park where we could...some scored beach front spots, a couple of others drove direct to Meelup. Some had a BBQ and others had a swim. Anyway a couple of the pics for you...

These 2 pages are a copy of the VW brochure for the price list in Singapore (circa September 2013) provided by Club Committee Member Paul Kuah. Thanks Paul... I have carried out some research to provide you with additional information that may help understand the brochure. The conversion rate at the time of this brochure was AUD1=SGD1.19. To calculate, divide the $ prices in this brochure by 1.19 to get Australian Dollars...e.g. SG$119,000 = A$100,000.

The CEVS evaluates carbon emissions and fuel efficiency to encourage consumers to shift to low emission models. All new cars registered with low carbon emissions will qualify for significant rebates between $5,000 and $20,000. Volkswagen Golf is 2013 Wheels Car of the Year
This is the third time the Volkswagen Golf has taken out Wheels magazine’s top honour. The Mark 1 Golf was awarded the 1976 Wheels Car of the Year and the Mark VI Golf was named 2009 Wheels Car of the Year. Volkswagen has received five Wheels Car of the Year awards over the years, including in 1974 for the Volkswagen Passat and more recently in 2010 for the Volkswagen Polo.
Volkswagen’s seventh generation Golf has been named 2013 Wheels Car of the Year at a gala event in Melbourne. The multi-award-winning Golf outclassed a field of 51 eligible vehicles to collect what is widely regarded as one of Australia’s most prestigious automotive awards.
“Volkswagen seems almost to have set out to create a car to excel in every one of the five Wheels Car of the Year criteria. And, quite simply, the Golf has aced it,” he said. Veteran judge John Carey summed up the Golf’s achievements; “The wonder-workers of Wolfsburg have created a Golf that’s better in every way that can be measured. And the increments are anything but miniscule.”
To receive this honour, the allnew Golf impressed Wheels’ highly respected panel of seven expert judges throughout a rigorous week of testing. “From the smallest, thoughtful details to the biggest basics, this Wheels magazine editor, Glenn is a car that never falters. Its Butler, lauded the Golf’s conbreadth of talent, it’s almost ansistency in all of the criteria; “The noyingly persistent perfectionism Golf VII is satisfying to drive, seand its unrelenting satisfaction rene to ride in and superbly usermake it something truly rare… a friendly. car for all reasons.

“This is one of the most worthy Wheels Car of the Year winners ever,” he wrote. Receiving the award on behalf of Volkswagen Group Australia, Managing Director, John White, commented on the win: “It is a great pleasure and honour to receive this award on behalf of so many in the Volkswagen family.” “The Wheels Car of the Year award caps-off a stellar year for the all-new Golf; which has also received Carsguide’s Car of the Year Award locally; as well international acclaim as the 2013 World, European, Japanese, Scottish and New Zealand Car of the Year.” “As Australia’s first, and the (Continued on page 25)

world’s longest-running Car of the Year award, this is testament to the quality, refinement and performance of the Golf.” Locally, the new Golf has also claimed victory in Wheels magazine’s Gold Star Value award for the 90TSI, and Motoring.com.au’s Family Car of the Year Under $30k.

Quotes, day three of the Rally Monte Carlo
Sébastien Ogier, Volkswagen Polo R WRC #1 “What a perfect start to the season! The team did a fantastic job. I am overjoyed. It is an amazing feeling to win the Rally Monte Carlo in these difficult conditions – especially now that the Monte is a round of the World Championship again. For that reason, this win obviously ranks above the victory in the IRC in 2009 for Julien and me. Even more so when you consider the last three days: the fightback in extreme Bonus points for Latvala/Anttila and rain, and then the snow chaos on the Col Ogier/Ingrassia on the Power Stage de Turini. That was always our goal, and I am still flabbergasted how difficult it was to achieve that goal.” Jost Capito, Volkswagen Motorsport Director “I am very proud of the entire team today. The drivers, co-drivers, engineers and mechanics all did an outstanding job. Sébastien Ogier’s performance was worthy of a champion, while Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen also did a magnificent job. Together with their engineers, and using the information available from the ice spies and weather crews, they always made intelligent tyre selections – even if they did not always turn out to be perfect. But that is just typical of the ‘Monte’, which is always unpredictable and temperamental. To have all three Polo R WRCs in the points and to have won the iconic ‘Monte’ for the first time as a team is an outstanding success.” And then there was ...
