Stroll ‘N Roll Fundraiser Breaks Records

n sunday, October 13, 2013, Kessler Foundation hosted their 12th Annual stroll ‘n Roll fundraiser, bringing in $105,000—the highest amount in the history of the event. All funds raised at the event, which was held at Verona Park, are dedicated to the foundation’s rehabilitation research efforts and to funding disability employment efforts. The day featured carnival games, face painting, balloon art and food, as well as a dJ, entertainment and appearances by assemblymen and women and Ms. Wheelchair new Jersey, Maggie Redden.

“We are thrilled to have a record-breaking year in the attendance and dollars raised at stroll ‘n Roll,” Rodger deRose, Kessler Foundation’s president and CeO stated. “As stroll ‘n Roll is our signature community event, we’re very pleased with the results so we can continue changing lives of people with disabilities. Livingston Theatre Legends to Appear in Local Production

ugh Mahon and Frank dyer, both of Livingston, will take the stage this month in the Livingston Community Player’s (LCP) rendition of Willy Wonka Theatre for Young Audiences. Mahon, who has spent more than 10 years as a volunteer set designer, painter and decorator, will take the stage for the first time as Grandpa George, while dyer, a four-year veteran of LCP, will return to the stage as Grandpa Joe. Both Mahon, dyer and a variety of other adult actors and musicians will work with children participating in the production, imparting their knowledge of theatre, production, art, set design and more on the young stars and hopefuls. Livingston Community Players is sponsored by the Township of Livingston and is a member of the Arts Council of Livingston. New Restaurant Opens in Bloomfield

n August 6, 2013, Yellow Plum Restaurant opened its doors in Bloomfield. With executive Chef Chris Lukic, a French Culinary Institute-trained chef who spent the last three years working in Los Angeles for Wolfgang Puck, at the helm, the restaurant’s seasonal menu and locally-sourced ingredients have already drawn rave reviews. “We use the freshest ingredients we can get our hands on and locally source our produce whenever possible,” Chef Lukic stated. “Right now our menu is featuring a lot of cranberries, gooseberries and Brussels sprouts—all things that are perfectly in season right now and available locally.” The menu, which is described as “new American” with “global influences,” currently features Braised short Ribs with Gooseberries, sweet Potato Puree and Roasted Brussels sprouts, with all menu items, including desserts, being made fresh daily in-house. nergy comes from two Greek words: energeia, meaning activity, and erg, meaning work. Which means that the amount of energy you have determines your ability to do work. What’s the best way to get your natural energy to work for you? You don’t have to put in a whole lot to make a major difference. All you need to do is change your F.R.A.M.E. of reference in these five areas:

F OOD

Eat a balanced diet in the way that’s best for you. Common sense tells you to include lots of water, fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts and grains. I found another approach in a book about the types of food that fueled the training of martial arts masters —who were legendary for their strength, agility and stamina. Among other requirements, they insisted that their food must not spoil easily, must be tasty,

must be simple to prepare, and must make one feel full even when eaten in small amounts.

The National Sleep Foundation estimates that fatigue is to blame for up to 90% of all industrial accidents and costs businesses $18 billion a year in lost productivity. The answer? Short naps—15-20 minutes about eight hours after you wake up. However much sleep you require,

Q: What can I expect during my first visit to Advanced Smiles? A: From the first time you call to make an appointment, my staff

and I do everything we can to make your experience memorable and pleasant. We offer easy access to new patient forms on our website, and our staff has extensive knowledge—helping them to answer any questions you may have regarding your dental procedure and insurance. During your first appointment, you will receive a comprehensive and detailed exam, including necessary x-rays. Computerized photos will be taken and reviewed with you so that you can understand the conditions existing in your mouth. Our goal is to make sure you have the best possible patient experience in our office.

Q: I’m very apprehensive about the dentist. What do you tell patients who are hesitant about visiting the dentist? A: The most important thing I like to tell my patients is this: you have every right to be nervous. We recognize that everyone has his or her fears, and we will work as hard as we can to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. As long as you

communicate with your dental practitioner, they can make arrangements to ensure your ease and security. We take special care to explain exactly what to expect during the procedures and ensure your comfort so we can turn your dental experience into a positive one.

Q: What keeps patients coming back to Advanced Smiles? A: It’s because we strive to provide the best dental care possible

to all of our patients. We are a very patient-centered practice; patients are our number one priority. Our office provides the latest technological advances including digital x-rays that cut down radiation levels by 90 percent, and intraoral cameras that zoom in on problem areas of your mouth and display the findings on a TV screen so you can see what needs to be addressed. Additionally, patients can view educational videos, and hands-on models are available to better understand individual treatments that are needed. 
