BEHIND-THE-SCENES with

PHILANTHROPIST

Robin Glaser By Cynthia Burns, photo by Dan Epstein

R

obin Glaser describes herself as a behindthe-scenes philanthropist. That is where she prefers to remain. For more than 20 years she has concentrated her efforts on helping those in need throughout New Jersey, the United States, and other parts of the world. Robin was chosen as our person of valor for our September issue of Inside Livingston as a tribute to her hard work and big heart. “When I learn about an emergency, whether it’s a student in school, a homeless person or a family in need, I mobilize and help.” Glaser stresses that mobilizing is a community endeavor. Without the help of others, the needs would not be met.

“Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.” ~Shirley Chisholm (a quote that Glaser lives by) Name it and Glaser has organized a collection drive: socks for the homeless; stuffed animals used as learning incentives for elementary and middle school children; non-perishable food items for troops stationed overseas and Thanksgiving baskets for homeless families; items on wish lists for victims of house fires and Hurricane Sandy; Christmas gifts and books; clothing and toys.

Robin Glaser with her dog Zeus

Most of Glaser’s charitable acts are not in conjunction with non-profit organizations. “I like to ensure that everything I collect or buy goes directly into the homes and hands of those in need.” She enlists the help of others by posting information about collections on the Facebook pages of local groups, maintaining an email list of those who have offered to pitch in and placing articles in local publications. One of her many passions is working with Adopt One Village, an organization that improves the quality of life in villages surrounding Abetifi, Ghana by focusing on healthcare, education and infrastructure. “Robin has dedicated her life to help the underprivileged in the community and around the world,” attests Emmanuel Anim-sackey, founder of Adopt One Village. Glaser’s home is transformed into a staging area for a town-wide collection of new and gently used toys, clothing, electronics, linens, toiletries, school supplies, books, sports equipment and other items. The goods are then shipped to Ghana.

If you would like to be added to Robin Glaser’s email list to receive information about upcoming collection drives, contact her at robinglaser@gmail.com. Your email address will remain confidential. For information about Adopt One Village visit the organization’s Web site, adoptonevillage.org. To learn about therapy dog training opportunities or to support the work of The Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs visit their Web site, golden-dogs.org/.

Glaser is also a volunteer with The Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs. She and Zeus, her 11-year-old Golden Retriever, attend group meetings for those battling addictions at the East Orange VA Medical Center. Her goal is to “bring them joy and comfort while they’re going through a difficult time.” Fall 2019

Easing a Grieving Family’s Burden Pre-Need Services Lessen Stress By Janis Hashe

T

he time immediately following a death, when family members are grieving and stressed, is not a good time for decision-making. That is why many people are making their funeral arrangements in advance, said Jerry Bellizzi, Pre-Need Funeral Director for Bernhein-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. “My purpose here is simple,” he explained. “I want the process to be as stress-free, seamless, and dignified as possible. If arrangements are completed ahead of time, it is much easier on the family.” He emphasized that making decisions about the type of services an individual wants in advance avoids confusion and lessens the burden on survivors trying to determine what their loved one might have wanted. An initial consultation of about 45 minutes in a relaxed, comfortable setting allows Bellizzi to get to know each person and discover what kind of a service he or she wants. “We have an educational dialogue on how to help you,” he said.

Advance arrangements can ease the financial burden, since costs are locked in at the time the contract is made. “We have the ability to create an arrangement to fit an individual’s budget,” he noted. “And it is always possible to make changes. I am here to serve the families.” Bellizzi, who is a professional, licensed funeral director, is also a Marine Corps Veteran, and is proud to work with other veterans, ensuring “they get the dignified services they deserve,” he said. “What we do is really about serving the community, helping people make sound decisions.”

Skills, Confidence and Motivation Add Up to Academic Success By Cynthia Burns, photo by Dan Epstein

H

untington Learning Center has been helping K-12 students in Livingston and the surrounding area achieve their academic potential for more than 40 years. Eileen Huntington, co-founder and CEO, is a proponent of seeking assistance sooner rather than later. “Wait and see is a mistake,” she says. “Kids promise to study more. It’s not as if they want to fail. They’re missing a skill and you don’t know what it is unless your child is evaluated.”

also helps develop research, study and time management skills. High achievers sign up for tutoring to ensure they stay ahead.

At the core of Huntington’s approach to success is a diagnostic evaluation to get a baseline of where a student is performing and to set goals to fill the gaps. The Center offers basic skills tutoring in reading and math and subject tutoring at the higher-grade levels. Huntington

Students who are applying to colleges or specialized high schools enroll in test preparation programs. “Students who prep for the SAT gain an average of 226 points on their score and those opting for the ACT achieve a 5.3-point increase,” notes Huntington.

LEHR LAW

Teacher Leo Donohue & Student Casey Arnold

Skills, confidence and motivation are the hallmarks of Huntington. Explains the CEO, “If you have the skills to do the work, you gain confidence. With confidence comes motivation.”

“The Livingston location has an excellent relationship with teachers and administrators in the district.” Huntington Learning Center is held to the same standards as schools and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Slumber Parties for Furry Friends Pups@Play Offers a Boarding Experience Unlike any Other By Deborah Schapiro

P

ups@Play, celebrating nine years in Livingston this month, offers dog services ranging from daycare to grooming. What truly sets it apart from other canine-care programs, though, is its boarding program. Owner Lori Zimmerman explains, “We never put our friends in cages, runs or isolated suites. Instead, we have two rooms, one for small-to-medium size dogs and one for large ones. In both rooms, we set out blankets, doggie beds, floor mats, and cots so that the dogs can choose where or with whom they want to sleep. It’s a very social environment; they are essentially having a slumber-party.” She adds that staff are always there, staying overnight with the pups: “It gives me peace of mind knowing that this way I

will hear about any problem as soon as it arises.” Generally, dogs return from a night at Pups@Play exhausted and happy. “We require our canine clients to have proof of updated vaccinations as well as pass a two-hour temperament test before they can join us, to ensure a safe and happy environment for all. We also ask that they are dropped off here no later than 3pm. This allows for plenty of playtime, so that they will be tired and ready for a good night’s sleep.” Dogs can board for any amount of time; Lori has had dogs stay for as long as a month. Whatever the amount of time, their owners are constantly updated with Facebook pictures and videos. They can also select from a menu of upgrades, Fall 2019

including long walks, one-on-one snuggle time with a staff member, and Kong toys stuffed with various treats such as cheese, peanut butter or pumpkin. According to Lori, “We want our fourlegged friends to consider Pups@Play a home away from home.” Pups@Play is also excited to announce that they are expanding, with a new location in Montclair at 85A Walnut Street (across from the Walnut Street train station) expected to open this October. “We look forward to expanding our family and adding many more Pup Players!”

Gift Shopping Made a Dream Come True... By Jessica Schiffenhaus, photos by Dan Epstein

The Perfect Personalized Picks for Any Age at Just A Dream

A

longtime local shopping staple, Just A Dream, is celebrating almost a year since opening in Livingston. “Since opening we’ve expanded our offerings to include not just items for babies, but also teens, tweens, and adults,” said Marisa Palmer, owner of Just A Dream. “I also made sure the store carries certain brands to get people excited!” Some of the labels featured include Stoney Clover Lane, Tickle Toes, Floss & Rock, Bari Lynn, and items from the artist Robyn Blair.

“When it came to building my ‘dream’ team, I looked for the people that shared the same passion I have,” said Palmer. Together, the entire team works to make the store a community for all their customers. And when you head into Just a Dream, you can always ask for Marisa—especially since there are three of them that will be able to help you! Rounding out the dream team is Nancy, whose smile will greet you and creative eye will find you the perfect gift.

“We’ve set up the store to be a one-stop-shop for today’s parents—offering a curated selection of what’s cool and hip with a trendy city vibe,” said Palmer. Just A Dream has lots of stand-out features that bring this vibe to life, including a graffiti wall, giant emoji and bunny room lights, endless rolls of nostalgic stickers, and a Vinyl Bar.

To further that community experience, they are planning to host events each month to engage customers. For example, their first annual “Dream Week” is taking place the week of September 9, with events celebrating different brands accompanied by activities for customers. It will culminate with a big celebration on Saturday, September 14 with complimentary activities for kids and parents.

Customers can come in for on-the-spot personalization at the Vinyl Bar: water bottles, dry erase boards, hats, crayon boxes—you name it. “Because you can personalize virtually everything in the store, your recipient knows that you’ve taken the time to select and customize a special gift just for them,” added Palmer. In addition to the Vinyl Bar, Just A Dream offers custom embroidery and hand-painted items by their in-house artists— the same artists customers have come to know and love. “They pour their heart and soul into everything they do, staying true to that Just A Dream feel,” said Palmer.

To stay up to date on products and happenings, follow them on social media–Instagram: @justadreamnj and Facebook: Just A Dream NJ. Stay tuned for their new website, which will be launching soon.

CoolSculpting at Vibrance MedSpa

L

et’s face it, most of us have at least one or two areas of our body we would love to change. You know, the one area that regardless of how much dieting or exercise you do... you just can’t seem to lose that stubborn area of extra fat that won’t seem to go away. Until recently, the concept of a procedure for body sculpting and contouring that’s completely non-invasive was one-step behind science fiction. But now there are a number of treatments that don’t require surgery or liposuction.

Now You Can Freeze the Fat Away! Vibrance MedSpa offers CoolSculpting, the #1 method to reduce fat in those really hard-to-lose places. CoolSculpting is the safest and best way to targeted areas. This technology does not require surgery, or any injections and it’s proven to work efficiently in reducing belly fat, love handles, inner thighs, outer thighs, knees, upper arms, muffin tops and even a double chin! Since approval by the FDA in September 2010, Coolsculpting has become the gold-standard for non-invasive procedures to remove unwanted fat.

So How Does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is the latest FDA-cleared technology in fat freezing and body sculpting. The CoolSculpting treatment freezes the fat cells underneath the skin, without damaging any other tissue, organs or the skin itself. Once the fat cells are frozen, they are metabolized and naturally removed from the body. Typical patients can expect a 20 to 25% reduction in their fat with each treatment, and results are seen approximately 8 to 10 weeks after the treatment. CoolSculpting is non-invasive, non-surgical and has very little pain and down-time. Whether you are looking for a way to trim those last few stubborn areas around your mid-section or your chin seems to have morphed into two…Don’t wait another day to feel good about yourself again by making a positive change in your appearance and attitude by visiting our highly trained and understanding staff! Call us Vibrance at 973-328-1700 to schedule a free consultation and freeze assessment to see how CoolSculpting can help freeze your stubborn fat away for good. hat a difference a day makes! The annual NCJW/ Essex Back 2 School Store was held on July 28. With the help of volunteers the event enables Essex County children in financial need to “shop” for free clothing, sneakers and school supplies in a one-day-only “store” set up just for them in Livingston. With the assistance of NCJW/Essex volunteer personal shoppers, each child is escorted throughout the department-storelike space to select pants, shirts, sneakers, hats, gloves, socks, undergarments, a winter jacket, and a backpack in their favorite colors and styles. Each child also receives school supplies and books as well as personal care items. All of the merchandise is brand new and purchased by NCJW/Essex through philanthropic and sponsorship dollars. While the children are shopping, parents and caregivers had the opportunity to visit the Gaelen Family Resource Center where programs and information about healthcare, career and educational opportunities, health screenings and other community resources will be available.

Treatments Offered for Men & Women Suffering with Urological and Sexual Dysfunction

A

t New Jersey Urology’s Millburn location, their experienced team uses the latest technology and techniques to provide treatment plans for all urologic conditions. Specializing in a range of treatments for both men’s and women’s health, their services optimize the quality of life for patients. For men, one exciting new treatment offered is low-intensity shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction. This uses acoustic energy which interacts with the targeted tissue where it causes mechanical “micro-trauma.” This triggers a chain of events that cause the release of growth factors that stimulate the formation of new vessels and more blood flow. Normal erections require adequate blood flow. When sexual stimulation causes an erection, what is actually happening is that arteries open so that the penis can fill with blood. A decrease in blood flow can cause weaker or failed erections. One of the newest treatments for erectile dysfunction is the use of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), commonly referred to as the P-Shot, which helps treat erectile dysfunction by increasing the release of growth factors to improve blood flow.

New Jersey Urology also offers treatment options for female sexual dysfunction, which refers to an issue during any phase of the sexual response cycle that keeps patients from enjoying a sexual experience. Dr. Stuart Shoengold, Director of the Center for Female and Male Sexual Medicine, treats patients with problems including low desire, arousal disorder, inhibited sexual desire, inability or lack of orgasm, and painful intercourse.

The Downside of

The Place to Go for All Your Foot Solutions

OTC HEARING AIDS

P

eople with hearing loss are drawn to the concept of overthe-counter (OTC) hearing aids, Internet hearing aids, and big box store hearing aids, because of the possibility of lower costs. What many people do not realize is that there is more to a hearing aid than just amplification of sounds and price. Fitting identical hearing aids on people with identical hearing test results yields varying degrees of satisfaction and success. Dr. Enid Smith, an audiologist and owner of Discount Hearing Aids in Livingston, explains, “An audiologist optimizes patients’ hearing to the best of the patient’s ability and potential. Sound is complicated. Brains are complicated. Perception of sound is unique from individual to individual.” OTC hearing aids are not without merit. However, they are not the best choice to guarantee optimal hearing. Dr. Smith says, “Inexpensive reading glasses have their place, but there are millions who need the services of optometrists to customize a script.” If OTC hearing aids fail to deliver, do not assume hearing aids are not going to help you. See your local expert and let them help you reach your hearing potential.

hen you visit a Foot Solutions, you are not just visiting a shoe store, you are visiting a team of certified, trained professionals who can evaluate your feet to not only rid yourself of pain but improve your wellness and overall health. Says owner Angie Sebastiano, “We are here to help people, not just sell them shoes. We are all trained specialists and understand the feet and how poor shoe selection can affect the rest of the body.” They help clients find the perfect shoe by getting to know their feet—from the activities they perform to any foot problems they may have. Customers are taken through an extensive foot analysis which includes measuring the feet; mapping pressure; seeing how a person walks; analyzing the shoe to see how they are worn; lifestyle evaluation; examining the flexibility of the foot; and finally, footwear recommendations. Foot Solutions provides a wide variety of brands for comfort and support, including Vionic, New Balance, and Aetrex. With comfortable options and custom inserts, you will never have to walk in an uncomfortable pair of shoes again.

ACHIEVING & MAINTAINING THAT PERFECT SMILE–IN STYLE! By Christine S. Maxwell, photo by Dan Epstein

A

chieving and maintaining that perfect smile is the mission of Sacks Orthodontics in Livingston. Since 2008, Dr. Sacks has helped patients achieve beautiful, healthy smiles with style. Eric M. Sacks, DMD discusses two innovative orthodontic technologies– Invisalign® and Dentagrafix®.

What is Invisalign®? Invisalign®, the most advanced clear aligner system in the world, consists of a series of trays that progressively straightens the teeth. Invisalign® has been around for over 25 years but had limitations in its infancy. However, over the last 5-7 years, technological advancements have been incredible, allowing a skilled orthodontist to treat almost any situation without traditional braces. Furthermore, with the use of Invisalign’s iTero® scanner, unpleasant, messy dental impressions become passé and are replaced by precise digital imaging. The technology has become so good that treatment times with Invisalign® are often shorter than with conventional braces.

Who is a good candidate for Invisalign®? Almost anyone with good dental health is a candidate for Invisalign® including children, teens and even adults with complex dental issues. As with any treatment, a commitment to the process is paramount and the aligners should be worn 22 hours each day. If compliance is a concern, traditional braces may be a better choice.

Is Invisalign® as effective as traditional braces? Yes, depending on the situation, Invisalign® can be just as, if not more, effective than traditional braces. The key is to find a specialist that is highly skilled and experienced with Invisalign®.

Why did you invent Dentagrafix® and for whom is it intended? I invented Dentagrafix® because I saw a void in the expanding use of clear appliances. Kids and adults alike enjoy selecting colors for their braces or choosing patterns and designs on their retainers. As more orthodontic care is being rendered with removable aligners and clear retainers, the

Eric M. Sacks, DMD option for colors or designs didn’t exist. Dentagrafix® fills this void by turning something that is dull and boring into something fun. The professionally designed patterns are strategically placed on the back teeth leaving the front clear, allowing the appliance to remain inconspicuous while adding an element of individuality. Dentagrafix® plastics are FDA compliant, durable, safe, effective and have numerous advantages. The colorful designs reduce the likelihood of losing the appliance, patient compliance increases when they are engaged by wearing something expressive, and it helps distinguish one family members appliance from the other. Dr. Sacks is a Diamond Plus Invisalign® doctor, meaning he has more Invisalign® experience than 99% of doctors globally and more Invisalign® experience than any single doctor in the state of NJ. Creating a PERMANENT SMILE By Janis Hashe, photo by Dan Epstein

D

r. RoseAnn Giannella sees many patients who are deeply ashamed of their teeth. “They’ll put their hands in front of their mouths when they smile. It absolutely affects their selfesteem,” she said. For an increasing number of middle-agedto-senior patients who have “hopeless” teeth, Dr. Giannella recommends “implantsupported dentures,” also known as permanent dentures. This type of denture, instead of resting unsecured on the gums, is attached to implants in the jaw. It can be taken in and out for cleaning, and provides the look of a healthy, complete set of teeth. After the initial consultation and examination, “Patients come in and have an interim denture or dentures fitted, while their permanent dentures are being created,” Dr. Giannella said. Though in most cases all existing teeth are being replaced, partial replacements are also possible.

“Afterwards, people don’t worry about pain — and they can eat whatever they want,” she said. Also, since overall health is closely connected to dental health, they may well benefit in multiple other ways. In-office aftercare includes a yearly return visit, during which the dentures will be removed and given a complete cleaning before being replaced in the mouth. The procedure has become so popular that “dentures in a day” clinics are widely advertised, but the security and comfort of Dr. Giannella’s office eases the fears many people may have about the procedure. Dr. Giannella also provides all general dentistry services, as well as cosmetic services, including whitening, porcelain veneers, esthetic bonding, and Invisalign.

aking time to know the clients’ lifestyle and to understand his or her needs are the reasons for the satisfaction of both new and existing patrons of Block & Zuckerman Opticians. “Because we carefully select the frames based on characteristics and prescription, our clients receive compliments on their glasses even months after purchasing them,” notes Ofer Steinberg, owner and optician. B & Z Opticians has serviced customers from near and far for almost 70 years, with a guided principle of see better, feel better and look better! At its current location in West Orange since 1984, B&Z Opticians plans a move to Livingston in mid-October. The new location boasts a free-standing building with ample private parking, at the intersection of Northfield Ave and Old Short Hills Road. “While we already have one of the largest selections of frames in the state, the new facility will allow us to almost double the number of eyeglasses offered by the average store,” remakes Steinberg. “We provide our clients with the latest and greatest looks.”

B&Z Opticians’ success begins with each client. “We have something for everyone, from high end frames such as Tom Ford, Lindberg and Oliver Peoples, to a full customizable collection known as i-Green. The Benefits of a Local Surgical Center Are Many

By Martta Kelly

T

here are several advantages to having certain surgical procedures done at a local surgery center as compared to a large hospital, according to Dr. Christopher Hollingsworth, a general and endovascular surgeon working out of the West Caldwell office of NYC Surgical Associates. The center, which opened in 2014, specializes primarily in minimally invasive endovascular venous surgeries that solve problems ranging from varicose veins to limb swelling. “All procedures are done on the premises,” he says. “Surgery centers do not have the same types of drug-resistant bacteria that colonize hospitals, making surgery much safer from an infection-control standpoint.”

Dr. Christopher Hollingsworth

Having complete control over who works at your surgical center is another advantage, he points out. “It ensures that only the highest qualified nurses, anesthesiologists, and operating room staff are taking care of patients. Having talented, conscientious employees speeds up turnover times between surgeries and reduces operating room times, which is safer for the patient.”

In addition to endovascular venous surgeries, Dr. Hollingsworth also performs complicated abdominal wall reconstruction and offers a range of repair options from simple to complex abdominal hernias, including mesh-free hernia repairs. Patients who have lost considerable weight, as well as those with soft tissue damage, can also take advantage of body-contouring plastic surgery procedures. “Many patients who visit the center are seeking plastic surgery revisions of ‘botched’ surgeries, such as belly button repairs for those unhappy with their navels after having tummy tucks,” he states. The West Caldwell center is part of a larger NYC Surgical Associates organization with multiple offices and surgery centers in New York and New Jersey. Dr. Hollingsworth also serves as regional director for NYC Surgical Associates for Rockland County. Patient care does not stop after surgery, according to Dr. Hollingsworth. “We consider ourselves to be a primary care facility for surgical services, which includes follow up care. We pride ourselves on maintaining a very high standard within our different specialties.”

Tips for Recognizing Ripe Fruits

K

eeping fresh fruit around the house provides a healthier alternative when your sweet tooth comes calling. Understanding how and when to buy at the peak of ripeness (or just before, in some cases) can help you avoid food waste while keeping your doctor happy.

Consider these simple tips for recognizing ripe fruits: Strawberries: Check the area at the top of the berry near the stem and leaves. A ripe strawberry is fully red; green or white near the top means the fruit is underripe. Watermelon: The “field spot,” or the area where the melon sat on the ground, should be yellow, and a tap on the rind should produce a hollow sound. Cherries: Flesh should appear dark with a crimson color and feel firm. Blueberries: Similar to cherries, color should deepen to dark blue. A reddish or pink color may be visible in unripe berries. Blackberries: Look for a smooth texture without any red appearance. Because blackberries don’t ripen after being picked, they tend to spoil quickly. Cantaloupe: You should detect a sweet smell, and the melon should feel heavy upon lifting. Peaches: A sweet, fragrant odor should be apparent. Skin should feel tender but not soft.

Now WE DELIVER through DeliveryNow.com For Pick-up orders call 973-884-8840

Pineapple: Smell is again an important factor for pineapple - a sweet scent shows it’s ready, but a vinegary one likely means it’s overripe. Raspberries: Generally follow the same rules as blackberries. Best eaten within a couple days of purchase, a bright red color represents ripe berries.

FROM PIZZA TO PANINIS N

and Beyond!

ow in its 29th year, Master Pizza is a staple business in the Livingston community. Whether ordering specialty pies for Friday night dinner or stopping in during the week for a quick and tasty lunch, customers flock to the family-run pizzeria because of its extensive menu—while “pizza” is in their name, they offer so much more. Says owner Marylee Castronovo, “When we first opened, the menu was very basic...a few sandwiches, salads, and pizza.” Looking at their menu today, customers will find that Master Pizza has incorporated specialty pizzas with delicious and unique toppings, paninis, stromboli, wraps and many more hot and cold sandwiches, salad, and dinner options.

One addition that you may not find at most pizzerias is their gyros and pita pockets. Notes Castronovo, “Our lunch customers in local offices would ask for different items on the daily special. We learned that many of these lunch specials were big sellers and were requested often, so we decided to make them a staple on the menu.” Other big sellers are specialty pizzas like Buffalo Chicken pizza and an Italian Hot Dog pizza.

Over the decades, Master Pizza’s management has come up with new ideas—and listened to the ideas of their loyal customers—to create a menu that satisfies anyone who walks through the door. Having so many options “gives customers an opportunity to try something you wouldn’t normally find on a pizzeria menu.” Fall 2019

Customers who love to try new things can also be excited for the future, as Master Pizza continues to think up new ideas in the kitchen. The pizzeria is considering revising their menu to add in even more options. From pizza to panins and beyond, Master Pizza truly brings classic Italian favorites and new, unique cuisine to the table. Discover the mouth-watering options at Master Pizza that local residents have been filling up on for almost thirty years.

Southern BBQ Right Here in Your Backyard!

Serving Up Fresh Burgers in a Fun Atmosphere

hink amazing Southern comfort food is only available below the Mason-Dixon line? Think again! Tie on bib for BBQ worthy of Kansas City, Memphis and Charleston— right from West Orange’s own SuzyQue’s BBQ & Bar.

ith its upbeat and fun atmosphere, Five Guys is the place to be to enjoy a tasty meal after a long day of work or school. From their friendly crew and exceptional service to their quality, fresh food, the burger joint keeps customers coming back for more.

T

Restaurateur Susan Hoffberg, the “Suzy” of SuzyQue’s, does not drown her BBQ in sauce. Instead, tables are set with a variety of homemade sauces to tempt every tastebud. From the sweet Habañero Citrus to a rich, traditional Kansas Citystyle (tomato based) option, smoky Texas-style (molasses based) or a lighter Carolina-style (vinegar based) choice, diners sample how each compliments and heightens the flavors of the meats. However, all of the dishes already are so well seasoned that they can stand alone.

W

Five Guy’s menu sets itself apart from other eateries. Favorite items include the cheeseburger, their beloved fries, and the milkshake. Burgers and milkshakes are made “your way,” with many toppings to choose from for a custom-made item exactly to your liking. And best of all, everything is made fresh–never frozen. Says Director of Operations Paul Fibraio, “We create hand formed patties daily into burgers, we shred our lettuce by hand and slice our tomatoes daily. There are no heat lamps to hold food hoping for customers to come in and order.”

The atmosphere at SuzyQue’s is spot on for a BBQ joint: wide-plank wood floors, rolls of paper towels for napkins, flat screens set to various games and a welcoming bar. SuzyQue’s has drink/food specials during the week and offers entertainment nightly, from live music to poker and karaoke. During football season, the Sunday raffle has enticing prizes.

Delivery with Door Dash and Uber Eats is available, with other options in the works. In addition to the East Hanover location, a complete remodel of the Madison location was recently done. To see the fresh new look and enjoy a tasty meal, head over for a visit.
