Most recently, Ms. Dehnhard joined seven other women entrepreneurs on a U.S. delegation to Ireland to develop international business relations amongst women in business. Ms. Dehnhard is fluent in Polish and continues to maintain community and leadership positions, serving as a commissioner on the Mongil Housing Corporation in Union County, the Corporate Advisory Board of the Boys & Girls Club of Union County, the Board of Directors of the Jersey Battered Women Service, the Advisory Board of Peapack Gladstone Bank, the Zoning Board for the Township of Cranford, and the Leadership Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis foundation “Women On the Move.” Ms. Dehnhard is also an adjunct professor at New York Law School.

Dr. Stone is a true entrepreneur and was at the forefront of women in dentistry when she began her career in 1982. She was quick to see the need for a new kind of dentist, a doctor empathetic and compassionate enough to work with patients who experience significant stress and anxiety when visiting the dentist. Her office provides stateof-the-art techniques and changes patients’ lives one smile at a time. She loves giving patients “the smile of their dreams.”
Ariella Cianni Ariella Cianni, one of the talented stylists at Shag86 of Little Falls, recalls that even from the very first day of work in May of 2004 as an assistant at the salon—the first at which she had ever worked—she was eager to be “the best of everything.” Today, she clearly has achieved that goal, honing her skills over the years side-by-side with the best stylists in the field in cutting, color, styling and more. During her career, she has trained with professionals at industry leaders such as Goldwell, Wella, Arrojo, Redken, Paul Mitchell and many others. “I still continue my education to this day,” she says, “and look forward to learning new things every time I go for training.” Once, when asked what she would be if she had the opportunity to change her career, she quickly responded, “I would never take that opportunity, because I love what I do so much, it would sadden me if I didn’t have this work in my life anymore.” Summing up, she says, “it’s the best feeling, knowing that my talent can change the way clients feel about themselves and having them feel their very best when they leave my chair.”

sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Fresh Jersey asparagus and nutty Jarlsberg cheese are the stars of this super easy tart.

cups Jarlsberg cheese, shredded

pound asparagus

tablespoon olive oil

tablespoon fresh thyme leaves salt and pepper
Heat oven to 400º F. Prepare baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out puff pastry into 16-by-10-inch rectangle, trimming uneven edges. Place on baking sheet. With knife, lightly score pastry dough 1 inch from edges to mark rectangle. Using fork, pierce dough inside markings at 1/2-inch intervals. Bake until golden, about 15 minutes. Remove pastry shell from oven and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Trim asparagus spears to fit crosswise inside pastry shell. Arrange in single layer over cheese, alternating ends and tips. Brush with oil, sprinkle thyme leaves and season with salt and pepper. Bake until spears are tender, about 20 minutes.

RUNWAYof DREAMS NJ Fashion designer Mindy Scheier creates adaptive clothing line for kids with disabilities

W
hen Mindy Scheier’s son Oliver, who has a rare form of muscular dystrophy, asked her if he could wear jeans to school, she was faced with a difficult decision. Knowing that jeans would not fit over his leg braces, or that with his low muscle tone he would not be able to button and zip them or to use the bathroom, she agonized, “Do I let him wear them, or do I tell him ‘No honey, you can’t wear jeans like the rest of the kids’?” Deciding that Oliver’s self-confidence was more important, the Livingston mother of three and designer and stylist for major fashion clients such as Saks Fifth Avenue and INC private label collections for Bloomindales, determined that somehow she would make it work. So, she cut a slit up the side of his pant legs and replaced the button and zipper fly with Velcro. “Once I began modifying Oliver’s clothes,” she remembers, “I realized that if my family was facing these challenges, thousands of others must be facing them on a similar, if not even more severe scale.” And Runway of Dreams was born. Turning “Dreams” into a reality, Scheier tapped her fashion contacts and began researching the practicality of such a venture. She explains, “I created an online survey, held focus groups with individuals with disabilities, their families and caregivers, and uncovered three commonalities to clothing modifications.” Using her research, the tenacious designer began transforming mainstream clothing for accessibility. She fashioned prototypes and held fitting sessions to be sure the changes worked. From there, Scheier connected with Global Brands Group, the licensee for Tommy Hilfiger Children, and ultimately Tommy Hilfiger’s CEO. “We brought our prototype to them for a collaboration,” she recalls.
“They understood our mission completely and were onboard almost from hello.” The rest, as they say, is history. Rising to the challenge, Hilfiger launched a first-ever line of designer clothing for children with disabilities that showcased easy-opening shirts with concealed magnet closures, adjustable length and leg openings, elastic and adjustable waistbands, open from the back shirts and t-shirts. An idea whose time had come… According to Scheier, what makes the line unique is how it empowers people to not only dress themselves or be dressed with ease, but shop for name-brand clothing they want to wear. “Our biggest challenge,” she points out, “has been educating the industry that the differently-abled community represent an underserved market. Fortunately,” she is quick to add, “things are slowly changing as the industry becomes more inclusive and representative of society at large. We see this with Lego announcing their new wheelchair figure and models like Rebekah Marine who is differently-abled walking in New York Fashion Week.” Today, with more collections in the making, the non-profit is working hard to foster such progress. “Just as there are plus and petite-size sections in department stores, we would like to see adaptive sections,” she says, “and make adaptive clothing lines for all ages and sizes with other brands and retailers. The differently-abled community knows no age or socioeconomic status, so our hope is to provide clothing for all people who have disabilities, no matter their background.” For more information and to learn how to support this organization, go to www. Amy Mansue, Southern Region President for the new RWJBarnabas Health, is excited about the merger and the ability to truly become local, community hospitals. Prior to the merger, she served as President and CEO of Children’s Specialized Hospital and Chief Strategy Officer for Robert Wood Johnson Health System. Mansue views the merger as between equals, which together has the opportunity to transform healthcare not only in New Jersey, but also across the country.

Mansue notes that with the merger, RWJBarnabas Health is performing a regional reorganization, with an emphasis on local, diverse communities and their unique needs. Excited to drive the change, she sees a shift from “health delivery” to what she terms “health wellness.” Mansue views this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to take control of the changes in healthcare, saying, “We aim to provide the right level of care at the right cost, at the right time based on what the patient needs.” Michellene Davis, Esq., Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer for RWJBarnabas Health, echoes Mansue’s thoughts. “The industry is changing. We have a strategic focus on wellness and are no longer only reacting to the illness needs of patients. Now, we are responding proactively to what our community needs.”
Mansue explains that this pivot has been brought about by a shift of power toward an informed consumer. Women have been a driving force in learning about how insurance works and instigating reform. According to Davis, women, as the major healthcare decision-makers for their families, are no longer merely patients who do what a doctor tells them, but educated consumers who know what they want to experience and need.
An African-American woman, Davis is a leading force in opening doors to more women executives, observing that younger women are showing an increased interest in the industry. Historically, women have been employed in healthcare, but few were in executive administrative roles. Davis firmly believes that women have a great deal to offer and, in fact, created the Barnabas Health Women’s Leadership Alliance as a vehicle for women in the industry and aspiring to join it. She is excited about the opportunities to mentor and sponsor women as they move up the healthcare ranks. The lack of diversity in management also is a concern to Mansue, who states that boards should be representative of the communities they serve. She is leading by example and serves 24

on many boards herself, including leading the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce as the board’s second woman Chair. Notably, the first female Chair of the State Chamber was Ann Estabrook, who led Elberon Corporation and is an RWJBarnabas Health board member.
Davis says that while the challenges remain great, women are “fit for the fight.” She feels this is an exciting time for women executives, stating a “higher tide raises all ships.” Fear did not prevent her from taking risks throughout her career where, in addition to her positions at RWJBarnabas Health, she also is the President-Elect of the Executive Women of New

All this said, however, Mansue says, “there’s still work to be done” to add women to the higher levels of hospital management. While women’s abilities tend to be underestimated—not just in healthcare—Mansue is confident
that women’s out-of-the-box thinking and drive to get things done will change this bias. She encourages women to “assert your ideas, don’t settle, and embrace organizations that embrace you,” such as RWJBarnabas Health. Mansue and Davis are joined at the new RWJBarnabas Health executive table with Nancy Holecek, Northern Region Chief Nursing Officer, Lori Colineri, Southern Region Chief Nursing Officer and Jennifer Velez, Senior Vice President of Community and Behavioral Health.

A
t first, it might appear that Ruth Bollo’s passion is cleaning. Yes, she has operated a successful cleaning service for 30 years. Yes, she also has a cleaning consulting business, Clean It Right. Yes, she finds cleaning both enjoyable and therapeutic. All that being true, however, Bollo’s real passion lies with helping people. She loves to share her battle-tested knowledge about cleaning with others. For example, Bollo’s local adult school cleaning classes start with a lecture that soon morphs into a problem-solving session with students. She listens to them describe the ink stains on their sofas and mildew on their siding. Taking notes, she researches solutions
after class and gives personalized advice. Sometimes Bollo even calls to follow-up on how things worked out. Driven by her need to reach even a larger audience, last year Bollo decided to write a book that distills her years of cleaning experience. And so “Clean It Right, The Proper Art of Cleaning” was conceived. Bollo soon learned that writing and polishing her guide is as challenging as getting motor oil out of silk. Working with a local designer and editor, Ruth spent most of 2015 writing, proofreading, rewriting and proofreading again. By December, she finally held her labor of love in her hands.

en and Women often struggle with keeping love alive. There is always hope that the other person and the relationship will change. Regrettable, the energy once invested in the beginning diminishes significantly leading partners feeling disconnected from one another. Rather than creating joy and alive-ness together, couples are merely co-existing. What is needed for the relationship to grow is vision and intention. It is, then, possible for each partner to shift from a position of selfabsorbtion to EMPATHY, from blame to OWNERSHIP, and from being a source of pain to creating SAFETY,COMFORT and ACCEPTANCE. This process involves exceedingly clear communication. Knowledge, understanding and compassion for the other’s world not only strengthens a couple’s connection, but also opens up new and more expansive possibilities. Most couples who are struggling to stay together, think that for things to improve, extraordinary changes, if not a miracle, have to take place. Most of us are conditioned to believe that these changes need to be made by our partner, not ourselves. But we often don’t realize that we have no control over our partner’s behavior. As a result, we develop a sense of hopelessness about the relationship and think, “If only he or she would change, everything would be wonderful”. The breakthrough comes when we realize by making small changes in ourselves, we can inspire positive changes resulting in feeling more optimistic, hopeful and open to our partners.

air stylists see it every year: As the temperature goes up and daylight lasts longer, hair color gets lighter. Here, Ariella Cianni, Prestigious Stylist (the highest ranking) at Shag86 salon in Little Falls, discusses how to get the perfect sun-kissed locks as well as the latest trends in summer hair. Should women do anything to their hair before going lighter?
Absolutely. I recommend two rounds of conditioning treatment to prepare your hair for any color change. At the salon, I use Goldwell products for color and love their shampoo and conditioner with Kerasilk. Kerasilk is a blend of keratin (a structural protein that is the key component of hair and nails) and liquid silk proteins. Kerasilk closes the cuticle of your hair, which locks moisture within it. It makes hair ridiculously shiny, and also reduces the time it takes to blow it dry.
What are this summer’s trends in hair color? The general trend I have noticed is a move toward subtlety. Hair-painting is still around, but the day-glo colors are pretty much gone. Instead, women looking to lighten their hair are going “bronde.” Just like it sounds, bronde is a combination of blonde and brunette. It is a way for brunettes to incorporate subtle blonde highlights into their hair while letting a lot of their natural color shine through.
What about length? I am seeing a lot of just-below-the-collarbone styles. While trending a bit longer than before, it makes sense. This length works for women of all ages.

Any other trends? Definitely. Everything is low, whether it’s a braid, a bun or a ponytail. Hair is also sleek and straight, with a middle part. If hair is not perfectly straight, it falls in loose waves rather than tight curls. And since June is the height of wedding season, all of this definitely also applies to bridal looks. The traditional updo worn by a bride is lower than usual; it is also smaller and looser, which makes it more natural-looking. The other major trend is the return of hair accessories. Women are once again wearing bows and small headbands. I have also seen a lot of very pretty jeweled ponytail holders. 46

Providing an Overview of Changes in NJ Child Support Law By Susan Wilinski, photo Dan Epstein
T
he issue of child support can be a significant point of disagreement between a couple, whether just getting divorced or divorced for years. Changes regarding termination of child support have recently been signed into law, further confusing an already complicated part of the separation process. Karolina Dehnhard, Esq., a family law attorney at Budd Larner, P.C. in Short Hills, offers an overview of the new child support law and what to expect in the coming months.
When will the changes in child support law go into effect? On January 19, Governor Christie signed new legislation with regard to the emancipation statute that dramatically impacts upon child support and when/how it terminates. The new law, which takes effect on February 1, 2017, is applicable to all child support orders—whether issued prior to, or after, this effective date.
What is the main basis for the change in the law? The new law is more payor-friendly, providing certainty as to when and how child support will terminate. It implements a form of “capped” age of 23 for termination, replacing the open-ended “moving beyond the sphere of influence of the parents” standard. The new law also alters the rebuttable presumption that child support terminates when a child reaches age 18.
What are terms of the changes in termination? The new law provides that, unless otherwise outlined in a court order or judgment, the obligation to pay child support automatically terminates on the date a child marries, dies or enters into military service. Another change is that child support ceases when a child reaches 19 years of age, unless (1) another age is specified in a court order, but not beyond 23 years old; (2) a written request seeking the continuation of child support is submitted to the court by a custodial parent prior to the child reaching the age of 19; or (3) the child receiving support is in an out-of-home-placement through the Division of Child Protection and Permanency in the Department of Children and Families.

What types of requests can a custodial parent make for support to continue beyond the age of 19? A request to extend child support beyond age 19 can be made under any of the following three circumstances: • The child is still enrolled in high school or other secondary program; or • The child is a full-time student in a post-secondary education program and is enrolled for some part of each of any five calendar months of the year; or • The child has a physical or mental disability that existed prior to the child reaching the age of 19, as determined by a federal or State government agency, and requires continued child support.
What about money still owed upon termination? If support arrears exist when child support terminates under the new statute, they will remain due and enforceable. The new law provides steps for securing payment of such arrears.

ou are not alone. Statistically over 50% of the American population does not obtain regular dental care. Since 15 to 20% are dental phobics this means approximately 40 million Americans avoid dental care because of fear, anxiety and embarrassment. The dental phobic carries the burden of shame and embarrassment due to their procrastination and neglect. This lack of proper dental care can lead to very serious complications including chronically infected teeth and gums. Additionally, a person’s overall well-being and mental health may be negatively affected.
What should phobic patients know regarding receiving dental care? Dental patients with stress and anxiety should know there are offices that cater to them. One of our goals is to let them know that there is hope. There is a genuine need to get the message out that help is available and our goal is to allow every patient to achieve the smile of their dreams without any stress or anxiety. We treat people the way we would want to be treated. Now people who would not smile, for sometimes as long as 20 years, can feel comfortable with themselves and show off their beautiful teeth.
Are you currently implementing any new technology in your office? If so, why do you believe it is beneficial to a dental phobic patient? One of the biggest changes is the use of the Wand, a computerized anesthesia device that has replaced the dreaded dental syringe. We realized the need for a better way to anesthetize our patients. With the use of the Wand, we can eliminate painful syringe injections from office visits, ease patient anxiety and actually encourage people to have the necessary dental work done. The Wand is a computer controlled delivery system that uses a pen-like plastic hand piece. It truly works like a “magic wand.” It is an injection system that conquers fear, pain and anxiety by delivering anesthesia below a patient’s detectable pain threshold. There is no syringe or discomfort. After only a single experience with the Wand, a patient’s fear levels decrease tremendously. It is a wonderful feeling when a patient tells you,”that was the best injection I’ve ever had or I didn’t feel a thing!” We also offer patients special multi-media glasses that provide an immersive 2-D or 3-D video experience while they are in the dental chair. The cinema glasses help reduce anxiety by visually removing patients from the clinical surroundings and fully immersing them in a video experience. The entertainment and distraction takes the patient’s mind away from the stressful sights and sounds of the dental office and virtually transport them to a place that is more calm and peaceful. 48

Who is the best candidate for a tummy tuck? I believe the ideal people for this procedure are those who are in relatively good shape and have loose abdominal skin. These candidates include women whose abdominal muscles and skin have been stretched from pregnancies, as well as older women and men who have a loss of skin elasticity due to age or have had significant weight fluctuations.
What is your recommendation for woman planning future pregnancies? The best advice for women who have not completed child bearing would be to hold off on having a tummy tuck, as the vertical muscles in the abdomen that are tightened during surgery will tend to separate again during pregnancy. Also, newly tightened skin will be stretched out with future pregnancies.

It’s a blooming fantasy, where enchanting fountains dance at intervals and you can catch performances in the picturesque setting of a cascading waterfall. As color emerges to paint the landscape in vibrant hues, dogwood, wisteria and over 240,000 tulips will herald Spring’s arrival—a perfect backdrop for a Mother’s Day lunch. Next stop—The Brandywine River Museum of Art, and different masterful creations. Three generations of Wyeths lived and painted the landscapes and people of Chadds Ford. The Brandywine houses an extensive collection of their work. Do include the museum’s tour of Andrew Wyeth’s home and studio where he painted many of his important works. His library is astounding. Back at The Inn, we lounged by the fire and enjoyed complimentary tea and biscotti, relaxing before a big night on the town—dinner and a play at Farmhouse Bistro at Peoples Light. (www.TheFarmhouseBistro.com). This is not your run of the mill, overcrowded dinner theatre. First off, in a country inn setting, The Bistro serves a delightful creative, tasty and reasonable ($39) prix fixe menu. Afterwards, in a beautifully restored 18th century barn where no seat is more than 60 feet from the stage, Pennsylvania’s largest professional non-profit theatre (People’s Light), showcases local theatre at its best. Truly memorable! Lights, camera, shop… Day Three had us in West Chester, Pennsylvania for a behind the scenes look at QVC Studios. Fun and educational, the highlight was a video of on air “faux pas.” Too funny! The tour finishes in the QVC store. Need I say more? (www.QVC.com). For our last evening, we reserved a table at an area hot spot—Portabello at Kennett Square. It did not disappoint! A lovely husband and wife team, (former New Jerseyans, by the way) Master Chef Brett and Sandra went out of their way to make our night special. They sat us at the open chef’s table, where we witnessed culinary magic first hand. From the bread (shipped daily from Brooklyn) to the delicious bisque chock full of lobster meat and mouthwatering Ossa Buco, it is truly an epicurean find and wonderful way to top off an extraordinary getaway!
