For Hitler, anti-Semitism is an explanation of the world: "I considerthe Jewish race the innate enemy of humanity and of all that is noble" (Mein Kampf 1925).For Hitler, the Jews are a vile and inferior race that corrupted the German blood, destroyed the culture and the soul. The "German race" was in a life and death struggle against the Jews and for Hitler the "annihilation of the Jews" became "my first and supremetask".

TESTIMONY OF SURVIVORS

"On a wall I saw a picture of my mother holding my brother in her arms. Then I swore to myself that as much as I could, I would write and tell everyone about the drama of my people and my family. I will never be able to forget, nor forgive, what happened to my family" (Elly Berkovitz Gross, survivor)
"When
misfortunes
happen to us, no one can help us. In order
to move
forward we must find solace in our own soul.
Something must be born there to give us strength
to fight on."

Fried – Hocaust survivor

"Under me and above me lay the dead and wounded. Some were breathing, others were moaning. Suddenly, I heard a child calling his mother. She sounded like she was my little girl. I burst into tears. The executions continued, and people continued to fall. I started pushing the corpses for fear of being buried alive. But I was trying to do it so the cops wouldn't notice. After a while, there was silence. It's getting dark. Germans with automatic weapons shot the wounded. I felt someone else, above me, pretending to be dead, no matter how hard it was. Then I felt how they covered us with earth. I closed my eyes to protect them. When it got completely dark and there was silence - a deadly silence, in the proper sense of the word - [...] I unearthed myself. I saw the ditch filled with thousands of dead people. I was scared. Here and there the earth moved - half-alive people trying to breathe.

In 1944, Cristea Hajnalca, at that time only a 13year-old girl, went down the death ramp at Birkenau. Althoughshewastooyoung toknowthe smellof death, the littlegirl felt in theair thatthe lady in black was starting to bite. On waltz rhythms, Josef Mengele, the angel of death, made the first selection: on the left, death, on the right, life. Short, broken, unsteady gestures... Like a life and death order. No one knew which of Dr. Mengele'sgesturesmeantlife. If whathappened in the camp could be called life. "Left, right, left, right, Mengele selected us there and when he lookedatme, mymotherbegged himverymuchto leave me there because, they said that whoever goes to this side will be better, but it wasn't like that because everyone who went there was executed". (CristeaHajnalcatold)

AUSCHWITZ WAS, IN THE PERIOD 1940 - 1945, THE LARGEST NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMP SINCE 1942, IT BECAME THE CENTER OF THE EXTERMINATION OF JEWS IN EUROPE
THE DOUBLE BARBED WIRE AND ELECTRIC WIRE FENCES THAT SURROUNDED THE AUSCHWITZ I CAMP

"In the camp, the crematoria burned after every transport of Jews. It smelled like burning meat and I knew what was happening. Then there were selectionsforworkandweprayed that Dr. Mengele (nicknamed "Doctor Death"), who liked to kill and experiment on Jews, would not be present. We slept on the bare ground, we washed ourselves with soap made from the fat of the killed, and for food we ate some grass with sand in it. I had plunged into a heavy silence.Theypasseddailyinfront of the shadowy barracks, people who took the road to death" (Irina Berenstein - Auschwitz survivor)

AUSCHWITZ I, THE GAS CHAMBER After the selection made by the SS doctors, the Jews were sent to the changing rooms, where they undressed, convinced that they were going to shower. About 2000 people entered the hall that imitated a bath. However, no water flowed through the fake showers. After bolting the doors, the SS poured Cyclon B through holes in the ceiling. In about 15-20 minutes, the prisoners were dying.

THE INTERIOR OF THE BRICK BATCHES 5 PEOPLE SLEPT, ON AVERAGE, IN EACH OF THE Bunk Beds
"When you are lonely and unhappy or sad, try once, in equally beautiful weather, to look at the outside world from the bridge. Not the houses and roofs, but the sky. As long as you can look at the sky without fear, you will know that inside you are pure and that, no matter what, you will find your happiness."
