VIOLET ROOTS

A monthly letter from the editor series to forecast the upcoming month, reflect on the past, and share life’s anecdotes.

Issue 05: Times Are Changing Evolve with it and focus on the next stage! Slowly but surely the wheels of change are coming. I can feel it. Can you? I don’t know what to expect but I know that there is this shift happening around me. Certain things are clicking and the things that weren’t are falling to the wayside. Sometimes, it can be pretty isolating to run a blog. You’re doing something that is so new and so misunderstood.

This past month I talked

would. Which led to explanations and a lot less about blogger problems and how, as a blogger, you free time. Still, it also led to an have to explain what it is unexpected realization. that you do. When I first laid out the People understand websites, they understand content for my blog Twitter but they can’t quite marathon I knew that I wanted to celebrate my 1 grasp what a blog is. It’s fine. Anything that is new comes with it’s drawbacks. While doing my

blogging marathon I had to spend a lot more time on the blog than I normally

Story driven content will become an even bigger part of Violet Roots! year anniversary by mostly discussing blogging topics. As I started writing the material I noticed how quickly I was able to write them up one after the other. It’s not like a normal post takes me 10 years to write but there was a noticeable difference in the speed I was able to put them together. It could have been because I was really excited to be hitting the 1 year

mark on my blogging journey but I think it was something else. When I first started blogging a lot of the posts were very story driven. I still try to share a bit of a story with everything that I present to you but I think all of my experimenting caused me to loose a bit of that. While talking about my blogging journey I was able to return to that and it made me realize a few things about the type of content I want to produce. I think that I can be helpful while also sharing my personal experience. It’s not mutually exclusive and as I aim to share more posts revolving around living and

maintaining a creative lifestyle I’m even more confident in that. Things are changing on the blog however some moves have been more subtle. I added a link to my Etsy store, I also created some creative prompts for those who need to get their creative mojo back and I have quite a few more soft launches in store. I also plan to restructure how I share content with you. In order to make creativity a more pronounced theme some style posts will be getting a refresh and story driven content will become an even bigger part of the Violet Roots DNA. So What's Next? • A special tutorial for the creative who wants to be taken seriously. • Checking in with the Create Discovery Project! • Live music season is amping up and so are my concert reviews! “I’m a fan of the eclectic”

March’s #VRxMusic Bonus! dance to these beats all month! This time around I nixed the theme and just decided to share a few tracks that I listened to today. Music does the job whether or not you put it into a carefully curated playlist so why not just wing it? The Bob Dylan song I added fit with the tone of this issue but the others are worth a listen too. I know some people only like hip hop and others only like rock or only like Top 40. I like a bit of everything but it’s fine if you don’t. It just means that there will be something for everyone with this list! I’m a fan of the eclectic, which I’m sure is a surprise to no one given my varied taste

in music. So, this month, let’s dance to a few tracks from different genres!

#VRxMusic Picks: • • • •

Bob Dylan - “The Times They Are a Changin” Oh Wonder - “Without You” Grimes - “Kill v. Maim” Brooke Candy - “Happy Days"

Which one is your favorite? Tweet @violetrootsblog using the hashtag #VRxMusic and share what song you’ll be listening to this December! Have a question? Email me at monika@violetroots.com
