A Life of Dedication to Community,

Family, and Nature

Jeff Silvers was inspired to pursue a career in local city politics by his experience on the Planning Commission, where he recognized the necessity of contributing to the city’s 25-year growth plan in 2004. Prior to this, he had already served on the Volunteer Fire Board of Directors, Board of Adjustment, Kids Park Build Committee, and the Sports Association Board as Vice President. He also volunteered as a coach for 12 years. Balancing public service and family time has been challenging, but his family has always been his primary focus, guided by his motto: “God, Family, Job.”

Silvers believes public service requires an open mind and ears, especially when making decisions for the city’s and citizens’ best interests. He acknowledges that making tough decisions is part of the role but emphasizes the importance of having an open-door policy and communicating effectively. His father, William Silvers, significantly influenced his dedication to volunteering and running for city council, alongside other respected figures like former Mayor Frank Ellis, former Councilman Bob Cauthen, and others.

Silvers recalls how his father was hired by the early administration to build the first City Hall, police station, and fire station behind City Hall, and how he volunteered his time to help with these projects. He encourages anyone interested in public service to commit to the betterment of the city, listen to the people they serve, and stay focused on what is best for the community.

Having lived on the Alabama Gulf Coast for 41 years after moving from a small community outside Nashville, Tennessee, in 1983, Silvers graduated from Foley High School and worked for a lumber yard in Gulf Shores for 18 years before becoming Sales

Councilman

JEFF SILVERS

Manager at Swift Supply in 2004. His father instilled a strong work ethic in him, teaching him to give back and use common sense in decision-making.

Silvers has been married to Rae Ann, a CPA in Foley, for 32 years. Their sons, Brandon and Chase, attended Orange Beach Elementary and graduated from Gulf Shores High School. Brandon graduated from Troy University, and Chase recently graduated from Auburn University. In his free time, Silvers enjoys outdoor activities, serving as Vice President of a hunting club in Range, Alabama, for 24 years, and spending time in the mountains of Idaho, where he owns a small home. He also enjoys fishing on the Gulf and following his sons’ sports careers. Family gatherings are busy and memorable, especially when they entertain visiting relatives.

One of Silvers’ most memorable moments in his 20 years on the city council was the decision to form their own city school system. His focus remains on city services for residents, including police and fire services, infrastructure needs, parks and recreation, and maintaining a clean environment for the surrounding waterways.

SCOTIA & DENNIS ROBINSON

CUSTOM HOME BUILDERS

The legacy of homebuilding runs deep in the Robinson family, spanning four generations. Scotia's grandfather built homes in Fairhope, Mobile, and Dauphin Island, instilling a passion for construction that has been passed down. This tradition led Dennis and Scotia to start renovating homes together, becoming fullfledged homebuilders.

Dennis was born and raised in Orange Beach. He began his construction journey early, helping with his family's construction business at just 10 years old. The Robinsons have been a staple of the Orange Beach community for eighty years. Dennis loves to tell stories about growing up on the island adding a wealth of local knowledge to your home purchase.

Their approach focuses on making homeownership accessible without compromising quality. They build affordable homes, allowing clients to choose finishes and personalize their spaces. Whether on a client's lot or one of their own, they work closely with each buyer to ensure they get exactly what they want.

They strive to stay ahead in the evolving field of homebuilding, incorporating the latest trends & standards. All their homes are gold fortified, exceeding expectations for durability and value.

A recent project involved finding the perfect lot for a client, a challenging task in today’s market. By collaborating closely, they secured a property that met the client’s needs and budget, showcasing their commitment to helping clients achieve their dream homes.

THE DUAL ROLE OF

Skyla

Tanner

Skyla Tanner’s journey began with an associate’s degree in accounting and a bachelor’s in elementary education from the University of South Alabama. However, her career took a different path when she discovered a passion for the travel industry. In 2009, she founded Go Time Travel in Orange Beach and has served as Founder and CEO for the past 15 years. Skyla specializes in curating exceptional vacation packages worldwide, often traveling to establish strong relationships with top travel suppliers. This career not only allows her to work from anywhere but also inspired her to create a training program for other mothers, providing them with the same flexibility and freedom she enjoys. This initiative has cultivated a supportive community, empowering many families to live life on their terms.

Skyla balances her professional success with a fulfilling family life. She has been happily married to her husband, Austin Tanner, for 16 years, and together they have four children: Hallie Beth, 14; Gabe, 13; Walt Barrett, 7; and Clara Catherine, 3. Their family is also completed by their beloved standard poodle, Frazier. This year, the Tanners will have children attending four different schools in Orange Beach, adding to the lively and dynamic nature of their household.

A Life Well-Traveled

Being a working mom has taught Skyla the importance of adaptability and time management. She believes that her career sets a positive example for her children, demonstrating the value of hard work and following one’s dreams. In the ever-evolving travel industry, Skyla has learned the significance of continuous learning and professional development, which she also applies to her role as a mother. The boutique nature of Go Time Travel, offering personalized, concierge experiences, is a source of pride for Skyla. The agency maintains a limited client base to ensure high-quality service, and the personal referrals and heartfelt recommendations they receive are a testament to their exceptional work.

One of the Tanner family’s cherished traditions is scuba diving. Skyla became certified five years ago and has since logged over 100 dives. When her

children turn 10, they too get dive certified, creating a special family bond through this shared passion. They have experienced incredible underwater adventures, such as swimming with whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium and exploring Disney’s Epcot aquarium. Walt Barrett, although only 7, has already experienced SNUBA in Jamaica and eagerly awaits his turn to dive deeper.

Skyla has learned invaluable lessons from her children, particularly the importance of being present in the moment. Their ability to fully engage in their activities, whether playing sports, enjoying video games, or spending time with family, serves as a reminder for Skyla to prioritize quality time. This lesson enriches both her professional and personal life, helping her to be a better businesswoman, wife, and mother.

Skyla Tanner’s story is one of passion, dedication, and balance.

She skillfully navigates her roles in business and family, inspiring those around her with her commitment to creating a fulfilling and well-rounded life. Through her work and family life, Skyla demonstrates that it is possible to achieve success while staying true to one’s values and priorities.

Riverfront Retreat

A Journey of Transformation and Tranquility

Nestled along the serene Bon Secour River, Rebecca and Sted McCollough's “River Run” home blends modern elegance and timeless warmth. The couple found this riverfront gem in December 2015 after a five-year search. Originally built in 1966, the approximately 4,000-square-foot home now boasts three bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths on the main level, with a versatile downstairs space including a full bath, den, and sitting room.

Set on a lush, gated one-acre lot, the home offers panoramic river views from nearly every room. The kitchen, once small and dated, has been transformed with wrap-around windows, deep navy cabinets, and a custom wooden island top inspired by two bronze pheasant plaques. This moody, sophisticated space is complemented by a three-seat casual dining area.

Photos by Shelley Patterson and Joseph Roberts, Kairos Studios

The interiors of River Run are intentionally curated with “Ralph Laurenesque” elements, creating a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. Several special pieces, purchased prior to the remodel, provided inspiration for the design. There is a story behind virtually every piece. Guests are welcomed by wood floors and ceilings reminiscent of a Hemingway novel. A long, glassed entry hall, featuring a 19thcentury Scottish fireclay lion, leads to an open living and kitchen area with stunning river views. A handmade custom dining table from Franklin, Tennessee, adds a distinctive touch to the space.

The primary suite has a Parisian flair, with European art mirrors setting the tone for a luxurious retreat. A skylight above the shower bathes the space in natural light, while the bathtub overlooks a private garden courtyard, featuring a bronze statue that was a wedding gift.

Outdoor spaces offer enchanting views of dolphins and pelicans. The landscaping, with fruit and olive trees, live oaks, and inviting wildlife, enhances the property’s tranquil ambiance.

THE ENERGY

Rebecca and Sted, who have four children and one grandchild, designed the interiors themselves, blending Rebecca's real estate insight and Sted's architectural expertise. The couple lived in the house during the renovation, collaborating closely with their builder, Lincoln Blue. Blue played a crucial role in the transformation, enclosing an outdoor deck to create a new sunroom, creating a new entrance with a raised courtyard, modifying the exterior deck layout to eliminate railing and maximize the river view, and revamping the layout for a more open feel.

Many interior pieces and art were sourced from stores like Melanie Martin Interiors, DUH, and RF Architectural Antiques, with each item adding a personal touch to the home. For Rebecca and Sted, River Run is more than a house; it’s a sanctuary offering calmness and tranquility, perfect for creating cherished family memories.

Alabama, Florida & Mississippi HOME INSPECTIONS IN

HOME PROGRAM | PROTECTING BUILDINGS AGAINST THE WRATH OF NATURE

WE UNDERSTAND

Our inspectors understand that continuing education is the key to being the best. You can rest assured that they are always up to date on the latest regulations.

WE WORK EFFICIENTLY

All appointments are scheduled through our central dispatch center. This ensures that our inspectors maximize their time in the field.

WE DELIVER TIMELY REPORTS

We strive to deliver your reports as quickly as possible. Usually you will receive a copy via email in 24 hours or less.

The Knockout team looks forward to the opportunity to serve you. Please call us or visit our website to schedule an inspection.

Knockout Inspections opened in August 2013 in Fairhope, AL. It consists of licensed Certified Master Inspectors, Home Inspectors, and FORTIFIED Evaluators. The company offers standard home inspections, bank loan draw inspections, 203K loan inspections, and FORTIFIED evaluations. The company is focused on its mission to ensure safe living from start to finish. It uses technology in the field to generate reports, documents the condition of the property through photos and videos, and ensures that standards are met to safe living conditions.

Nathan Lippincott, the Founder of Knockout Inspections, came from a long line of contractors and builders and was a framer in his early career. He has built many homes, even several of his own for his family, and knew the ins and outs of the construction industry. The last few homes he framed were actually built to the FORTIFIED standard when it was still in its infancy. In 2013, he decided to leave the construction industry to pursue his dreams of entrepreneurship by becoming a Home Inspector.

Knockout Inspections started as a one-person show with Nathan. He grew the company by visiting many local real estate offices and making connections with realtors. Many of the custom new construction homes that he inspected were built to the Gold FORTIFIED standards. One of the requirements to become a FORTIFIED Evaluator is to be a licensed home inspector for several years, so Nathan became a certified FORTIFIED Evaluator in 2015.

Knockout is continuing to educate, grow, and expand the FORTIFIED program. Nathan said, “We have seen great success in the standards and truly believe that FORTIFIED is the future for safer, more resilient construction.” The company recently had an update issued by IBHS that ensures even greater protection by adhering to the 2021 (soon to be 2024) IRC Code. In some states, legislation has been passed that requires homeowners to receive a discount for the fortification of their homes. For example, homeowners with a FORTIFIED built home can receive a discount of up to 55% on their homeowner’s insurance premium. The only requirement is to have a valid FORTIFIED certificate which must be provided to the insurance company.

The Frank Brown Songwriter’s Festival launched its inaugural scholarship gala in memory of Joe Gilchrist, whose enduring legacy extends beyond the FloraBama, profoundly impacting musicians and the community. Joe’s philanthropic efforts have created opportunities that will benefit future generations. This special fundraiser aims to raise money for scholarships in his name, supporting kids in Alabama and Florida who aspire to pursue careers in music. The gala celebrates Joe’s lasting influence and unwavering dedication to nurturing young musical talent.

BROTHERS OF

Hollard’s Mission to Make a Difference

Music

Hollard isn’t just a band; it’s a brotherhood built on faith, family, and friendship. We are retired Navy and civilian engineers, and we’re also husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers. Our journey began 12 years ago with two friends and a couple of acoustic guitars, driven by a shared passion for music and a dream of performing on stage. Over time, our group grew into a five-member band, welcoming talented musicians who quickly became part of our extended family.

Over time, our group grew into a five-member band, Chris Holley, Steve Blackwell, Troy Calvert, Steve Ballard, and Will Bryan were welcomed talented musicians who quickly became part of our extended family.

Our mission goes beyond making music; we aim to use our platform to raise awareness for those in need. Every performance is an opportunity to honor those who serve our country—past, present, and future—and to support organizations dedicated to making a difference. We donate all our tips equally to two causes close to our hearts: the USO and the Children’s Rescue Initiative (CRI). Through the generosity of our fans and community, we’ve raised more than ten thousand dollars collectively.

@HOLLARDBAND

CRI: THECHILDRENSRESCUE.ORG

USO: UNITED SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (USO.ORG)

@HOLLARD

The impact of our work hits home when we see the difference these donations make. It’s not just about the money; it’s about bringing people together to support causes that matter. The support we receive from our fans, friends, and family is overwhelming and humbling. Without them, our mission wouldn’t be possible, and we are deeply grateful.

Balancing our love for music with our responsibilities as family men and professionals is challenging. Time often feels like the biggest obstacle, but every rehearsal and performance is a testament to our dedication and passion. We pour our hearts into every show, creating a positive and engaging experience for our audience.

Community involvement is crucial for us. Donations are the lifeblood of our support for the USO and CRI, and spreading the word about these organizations helps them grow. Volunteering is another great way to get involved and make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful to the venues that have supported us over the years. Their partnership has been invaluable in helping us reach more people and raise more funds.

As we look to the future, our goal is to continue being a leader in our industry, using our music to raise awareness and support for the USO and CRI. With the love and support of our community, we believe that Hollard can make an even greater impact in the years to come.

BOILED PEANUTS

RECIPE COURTESY OF JOY MONNERJAHN: @THE_BAYOU_BELLE

I love boiled peanuts. When you see an old man on the side of the road with little zip lock baggies full of boiled peanuts, you know you’ve reached a new level of country folks.

They are amazing though. I like to get mine soft and juicy so I can pop one in my mouth, crack the shell with my teeth, suck the juice and then get the nuts out. You're going to love the juice and taste of these, but love even more that we are cooking them in the instant pot so they are faster!

INGREDIENTS:

24 oz bag of raw peanuts

5 cups water

1/2 cup Slap Ya Mama seafood boil spices

Potato (if needed)

DIRECTIONS:

Wash peanuts

Place water in the instant pot and add the Slap Ya Mama spice

Add peanuts

We want the water to cover the peanuts, so put some foil balls on top

Place the trivet on top

Weigh down with a potato if needed

Directions:

Seal lid and lock

Put it on the rice setting

Cook for 200 minutes or more if needed for desired softness

The first Blue Marlin weighed on Friday morning was caught by the boat Miss Ma’am from Orange Beach. Cooper Yancey landed a 650.4 lb. Blue Marlin, measuring 123 inches, which held on to become the Grand Champion of the tournament.

Beach Safety Division Chief BRETT

LESINGER

Brett Lesinger’s career path was largely influenced by his older brother, Austin Lesinger. Austin’s passion for his work in the Orange Beach Fire Department inspired Brett to pursue a similar path. In 2013, Austin introduced Brett to a new Beach Lifeguard position at the Fire Department, which seemed ideal for him as a college student at The University of Alabama. From that moment, Brett quickly fell in love with the job, progressing from seasonal lifeguard to parttime supervisor, Beach Safety Supervisor, and eventually to Beach Safety Division Chief.

A LIFEGUARD’S JOURNEY

From Inspiration to Leadership and Beyond

Key milestones in Brett’s career include being voted Lifeguard of the Year in 2013, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Alabama in 2015, and achieving dual certification as a Firefighter and Lifeguard in 2018. One of his most impactful achievements was the launch of the BEach SAFE Campaign in 2021, which has significantly enhanced beach safety throughout Baldwin County.

A significant challenge Brett faced was when his mentor left for another position, leaving him at a crossroads. At 25, with extensive lifeguarding experience but limited leadership experience, Brett decided to apply for the position of Beach Safety Division Chief. This opportunity pushed him to mature quickly and develop his own leadership style.

Over the years, Brett has witnessed a significant transformation in the community’s approach to beach safety. What was once considered a wild frontier with minimal safety measures has become a secure environment for visitors and locals alike. Lifeguarding has evolved into a respected profession, offering opportunities to make a meaningful impact, from saving lives to educating families about beach safety. Brett hopes that this passion for beach lifeguarding continues to grow, providing future lifeguards with even better experiences.

Looking ahead, Brett aspires to own and operate a fitness facility, as fitness and health remain passions of his. His advice to others is to never become comfortable or complacent; always strive for new goals and challenges, as true growth comes from continuous effort.

AmayaTriston +

My maiden name was Amaya Johns, but now I proudly carry the name Amaya King, after marrying the love of my life, Triston King. I am a dedicated trauma ICU nurse, having earned my bachelor's degree in nursing. Triston has an adventurous career as a towboat pilot on the mighty Mississippi River. Our love story culminated in a beautiful wedding on June 15th, 2024, after a five-year courtship filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Triston’s proposal on April 28th, 2023, was magical. Orange Beach, holds countless core memories for us, making it the perfect setting. Triston had planned a celebratory weekend getaway with our friends, ostensibly to mark my upcoming graduation from nursing school. It all seemed perfectly ordinary to me, especially when the couples decided to have separate date nights. Little did I know, this was all part of Triston’s plan.

Triston and I embarked on a romantic boat ride to our favorite restaurant, Louisiana Lagniappe, a staple of our OBA trips. As we cruised through the water, enjoying the breathtaking sunset, I had no inkling of what was to come. Upon reaching the dock, Triston took my hand, knelt down, and asked me to marry him. To my astonishment and delight, our friends and family emerged, cheering us on. What I thought was a simple dinner date turned into a joyous engagement celebration, making the moment even more special.

Our wedding day at the Coastal Arts Center was a dream come true. We embraced a "classy coastal" theme with colors of light blue, white, and gold, creating an elegant

and serene atmosphere. My wedding dress was an absolute masterpiece. It featured an open back, a row of buttons, and clear sequins scattered throughout, which sparkled like tiny stars in the sunlight. The entire dress was adorned with intricate lace details, making me feel like a princess.

The ceremony was filled with traditional and personal touches. We recited traditional vows in front of our loved ones but reserved our personal vows for a private moment. Triston’s uncle officiated the ceremony, adding a personal touch. At one point, Triston, in his eagerness, prematurely exclaimed "I do," causing everyone to burst into laughter. It was a moment of pure joy and a testament to his unwavering love. Later, when it was time to exchange rings, I was so excited to see Triston’s reaction to the ring I had designed that I forgot my lines and had to ask Uncle Keith to repeat them. This led to more laughter and made the ceremony even more memorable.

Instead of a flower girl and ring bearer, we opted for a ring warming ceremony. As “The Blessing” by Elevation Worship played, our immediate family and wedding party passed our rings around, each person saying a prayer or warm wish for our marriage. This heartfelt gesture added a unique and emotional element to our wedding, making it truly special.

Our wedding cake was a simple yet timeless creation. It featured three tiers, adorned with fluffy flowers between each layer and dotted with tiny, pearl-like decorations. The bottom tier was a traditional wedding cake, while the other two were delicious carrot cake from Publix, which disappeared quickly as our guests savored every bite.

For our honeymoon, we escaped to the stunning island of Curaçao in the Caribbean. The island's beauty was beyond anything we had imagined, providing the perfect backdrop for our romantic getaway. We spent our days exploring pristine beaches, swimming in crystal-clear waters, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Now, we have settled into our new life together in Ocean Springs, MS. Our journey from Amaya Johns and Triston King to Mr. and Mrs. King has been filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished moments. We look forward to the many adventures and milestones that lie ahead as we navigate this beautiful journey called life together.
