Philip Harris
Philip Harris's journey in public service began in 2001 when Mayor David Bodenhamer appointed him to the planning commission. By 2004, his community's trust led to his election to the Gulf Shores City Council.
Philip's desire to serve was deeply rooted in his upbringing. His father, George Harris Sr., served on the Gulf Shores City Council for several years. Watching his father’s commitment to the community inspired Philip to get involved. After his father's passing, Philip felt a renewed calling to honor his father’s legacy.
Philip's political career has been both challenging and rewarding. He quickly learned that public service was a significant responsibility. He understood that elected officials had the power to shape the community's future. This realization made him focus on the greater good, always
considering the needs of all residents.
Philip and his wife, Jill, moved to Gulf Shores in 1986 to help open their family’s restaurant, Nolan's. By 1995, Philip had started his construction company, Philip Harris Construction. His business experience gave him a unique perspective on the city council, balancing the needs of businesses with those of the community. Philip and Jill have three children and seven grandchildren residing in the area as well.
Managing growth in Gulf Shores has been one of Philip's biggest challenges. As a tourism-based community, residents often share their town with new visitors each week. This influx required sacrifices in terms of crowded roads and beaches. However, Philip believed that maintaining the "Small Town, Big Beach" lifestyle was essential. Properly managed growth could enhance the quality of life for residents, ensuring a vibrant community.
Some of Philip's proudest achievements on the city council include improving healthcare and education, highlighted by the formation of the Gulf Shores City School system. He sees this as an invaluable investment in the future, providing students with opportunities to compete and succeed. The return on investment for the community is immeasurable, shaping future leaders.
Philip's goals include fostering a year-round sustainable economy that provides quality job opportunities for young people, ensuring they can return to Gulf Shores to work and raise families. He aims to enhance communication between officials and residents and promote small businesses.
George Harris Sr.'s tenure on the city council shaped Philip’s approach to public service. When Philip first ran for office, he was a small business owner, a parent, a youth sports coach, and a son caring for aging parents. His diverse background helped him relate to a wide range of voters.
Outside of public service and business, Philip enjoys boating, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling. These hobbies provide a respite from his busy schedule,
allowing him to recharge and stay connected with the natural beauty of Gulf Shores.
Philip Harris’s journey is a testament to the impact one individual can have on their community. Through dedication, hard work, and commitment to the greater good, he has helped shape Gulf Shores into the thriving community it is today.

People travel from around the world to experience the excitement at Flora-Bama, creating priceless memories.

Heritage Park transformed into a vibrant hub with over 90 artists displaying unique creations. The event beautifully blended creativity and community spirit for the perfect family outing!
IGulf Shores Woman’s Club
n September 1948, as fall began to settle in, a group of determined women convened at Mrs. George Salley’s home. While their husbands were engrossed in the newly formed “Gulf Shores Lions Club,” these visionary women were crafting their own plans for community impact. Undeterred, they forged ahead with their meetings, eventually deciding to establish a Woman’s Club and affiliate with the State Federation.
Their dedication laid the groundwork for the Gulf Shores Woman’s Club (GSWC), a beacon of community service in Alabama’s Gulf Coast region. Founded in 1949, GSWC became deeply rooted in the mission of fostering civic, social, and educational betterment within the community. Affiliated with the Alabama Federation of Women’s Club (AFWC) and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), GSWC embodies the spirit of volunteerism and philanthropy.
Operating across five key areas—Arts & Culture, Civic Engagement & Outreach, Education & Libraries, Environment, and Health & Wellness—GSWC embarks on a variety of hands-on projects each year. From coastal cleanups to recycling initiatives and support for local care facilities like Haven Memory Care, the club’s impact is felt far and wide.
The Spring Fashion Show serves as GSWC’s primary fundraiser, with proceeds supporting local nonprofits and the club’s scholarship fund. This year’s Spring Fashion Show raised a profit of over $18000! Over the years, GSWC provided vital assistance to organizations such as the Thomas B. Norton Public Library, Christian Service Center, and Mary’s Shelter, among others. Additionally, the club established the GSWC Scholarship Fund, empowering local women to pursue their educational aspirations.
In September 2023, GSWC’s dedication to community needs was evident when they collected nearly 600 jars of peanut butter and jelly for the Christian Service Center food bank. This collaborative effort which included other business partners in the area reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference.
Commemorating the island community’s rich history, GSWC authored and published two captivating books, “Once Upon an Island” and “From Cottages to Condos.” These volumes preserve the heritage of Gulf Shores, serving as cherished records for generations to come.
Through collaborations with Coastal Alabama Community College, GSWC continues to uphold its legacy of service, enriching lives, and fostering a culture of compassion and support in the community.

What do you love most about the restaurant industry?
I love the diverse and enriching connections you form with people from various backgrounds. Having lived in Texas, I had the opportunity to learn about the Spanish-speaking community there. Now, in Alabama, I am learning about the vibrant islander community. These interactions highlight how similar we all are when united by our passion for cooking.
Do you have a favorite dish?
My favorite dish is chicken liver mousse with red pepper jam and sourdough bread. It would be my last bite ever because it reminds me of home and my early days in the kitchen. When I first started cooking, I was tasked with preparing this dish, and it was one of the few my chef entrusted me to make. I take immense pride in it. It's simple yet packed with a variety of flavors.
What is one ingredient you can’t live without and why?
Garlic. It's an essential ingredient that adds depth and richness to countless dishes.
What sets you apart from other chefs/restaurants?
What sets me apart is my dedication to mentoring young cooks and helping them hone their skills. Additionally, I focus not only on the back of the house but also on the front of the house, ensuring a cohesive and exceptional dining experience for our guests.

What makes Jesse’s on the Bay special?
The view of the bay, the sunset, dolphins playing in the water in the mornings, and the beautiful building. For me, it is also that the owners give me the freedom to be creative with the menu and food at my discretion.
What do you love most about a career in the restaurant industry?
Being able to play, eat, taste, create with and learn from the food. Obtaining knowledge and sharing it with those who share my passion is also something I truly enjoy about the culinary field. I love the intensity of service, “the dance”, the finesse, and the fluidity of motion it takes to cook at a high level for a high-volume restaurant. The comradery of a kitchen staff is unique, and getting to learn things from others in the kitchen that have different backgrounds and have different reasons for their love of the restaurant environment is very enjoyable.
Are there any changes at Jesse’s about which you are excited?
We are constantly changing up things on the menu which is fun and exciting. Of course, we do have our staple menu items and guest favorites. Some of which have been brought back very recently to our Magnolia Springs location. The menu is a bit of an open door at the Fort Morgan location. Ingredients will come in and out of season and I’m constantly looking for new ingredients or techniques to work with, so things will change and evolve with the seasons and the availability of ingredients.

GULF SHORES | LEGENDARY GRAND OPENING EVENT

JASON RAMIREZ
What was your first restaurant gig?
My first restaurant gig was washing dishes for a small catering company in Newnan, GA, when I was fourteen. It was a summer job I'll never forget. After my first day, I went home with my fingers covered in cuts from scrubbing pots and pans with metal scrub pads. My waterlogged hands were not used to that at all. But I went back the next day, and I’ve been in the industry ever since.
What is one ingredient you can’t live without and why?
I’d have to say onions. They come in so many varieties, and you can get an incredible range of flavors from them— sweet, savory, spicy, and even bitter—just by changing the way you prepare them. Whether they are caramelized to bring out their natural sweetness, sautéed for a rich and savory base, grilled for a smoky flavor, or used raw to add a sharp, pungent bite, onions enhance nearly every dish. They are incredibly versatile and can be used in soups, stews, salads, salsas, and countless other dishes. Onions also contribute to the texture and depth of a recipe, making them an essential ingredient in my kitchen.
What do you love most about your customers?
What I love most about my customers is the unpredictability of the connections we form. It's always enjoyable to have conversations with guests, and sometimes you end up forming a special bond. One of my closest friends was once a customer. Nearly twenty years later, we've watched our families grow and still keep in touch. You never know who you'll meet and what kind of relationships you'll build.
BRODY OLIVE
What Sets You Apart from Other Chefs?
Our dedication to showcasing the best regional producers and our passion for telling the stories of local farmers, fishermen, and artisans set us apart. We strive to create a unique dining experience that not only highlights the flavors of our region but also honors the hard work and traditions of those who supply our ingredients.
What Do You Love Most About the Restaurant Industry?
I love the creative space, the camaraderie with our team, and all the moving parts! The restaurant industry is a dynamic environment that allows me to learn and grow ideas daily. The constant evolution and the opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals make it an exciting and fulfilling career.
What is One Ingredient You Can’t Live Without and Why?
Butter. It's indispensable because it serves multiple roles in the kitchen— from a binder to a cooking medium and everything in between. Its versatility and rich flavor make it a fundamental ingredient in many dishes. It’s butter, baby!
What Do You Love Most About Your Customers?
I love people! With the history of Voyagers, we often hear stories from families who have been dining here for multiple generations. It’s always enjoyable to listen to the travels of new guests or to hear how someone discovered us for the first time. Our customers' stories and their connections to our restaurant are incredibly rewarding.

What makes Chicken Salad Chick special?
The family atmosphere of our restaurants started with the vision of our founder, Stacy Brown. She wanted everyone who walks through our doors for some homemade chicken salad and sides to feel at home when they visit our restaurants. Every member of our Chicken Salad Chick family takes pride in the food they provide you and your family.
What do you love most about a career in the restaurant industry?
Customers seek out our restaurants, and it warms my heart how we change people’s lives with food. The people, our customers and my entire staff, are no doubt what I love the most! I can’t begin to tell you how many relationships that we have made through the Chick.
What do you hope people say about Chicken Salad Chick?
We are humbled that our customers share how much they love our staff and our food. For us, giving back to our community is very important. The locals know it, and they thank us for it daily. We are blessed that our customers let us know that they truly enjoy their experience when they visit!
What is something people may not know about Chicken Salad Chick?
We offer community drops for large condo complexes and Ono Island. Great for holidays!

Built in 2004, this luxurious retreat spans over 5,214 square feet, offering a tranquil escape with its unique blend of architecture and natural splendor.
SUMMER FUN
Frantasia is a three-level sanctuary featuring four bedrooms (the fourth serving as a versatile guest suite), five full baths, and a half-bath powder room. The exterior exudes a Mediterranean vibe, with terra cotta-like metal roofing tiles that provide both aesthetic charm and hurricane resistance. The property’s facade, adorned with repurposed bricks, intricate ironwork, and antique streetlamps, tells a story of timeless beauty and historical significance.
For the owner, choosing a favorite spot within Frantasia is akin to choosing a favorite child. Every corner of the property offers a unique retreat. From the moment one drives off Canal Road and onto the brick driveway, peace and relaxation ensue. The journey to the house is lined with a vibrant array of flowers, plants, and trees, culminating at the water garden—a perfect spot for a sunset cocktail beside the firepit.
The Serenity Garden, complete with the Stations of the Cross, offers a tranquil space for reflection and gratitude. Beyond the house, the pool, deck pier, and boathouse beckon with promises of leisure and stunning water views. Inside, the primary suite is a haven with its steam shower and soaker tub, offering a private oasis to wash away the day’s worries.
Stepping inside Frantasia, visitors are greeted by an ambiance of upscale casual comfort. The interior design showcases a collection of cherished art pieces from the owner’s travels, illuminated by the abundant natural light. Murano glass art pieces and chandeliers sparkle in the sun, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The main level's open floor plan is perfect for entertaining, seamlessly connecting the chef’s dream kitchen with the living and dining areas. Equipped with a Subzero refrigerator, Wolf range, double oven, and warming drawer, the kitchen is ideal for both novice cooks and culinary enthusiasts. The plentiful cabinetry ensures that all party essentials are at hand for any gathering.
Frantasia’s design thoughtfully accommodates seasonal activities and intimate gatherings. The downstairs guest suite doubles as a party space, frequently used during summer for poolside fun. Meanwhile, the main level serves as the heart of the home for more intimate get-togethers, offering a cozy yet elegant setting.
One of Frantasia’s most captivating features is its panoramic views. From sunrise to sunset, the property offers glimpses of dolphins swimming near the pier and wildlife like deer, coyotes, and owls. The home’s location, set back over seven hundred feet from Canal Road, provides a secluded, peaceful atmosphere that feels like a private paradise.

By Liesel SchmidtCHRIS BEST
DREAMS
For years, Best has been an advocate for following one's passions. His mantra, "Find something you love and make a business out of it," resonates deeply with many. He emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurship, noting that successful individuals often attribute their achievements to running their own ventures. Despite advocating this advice, Best himself initially hesitated to take the leap, citing familial responsibilities and the security of corporate roles.
However, a pivotal moment came when Best realized that he couldn't ignore his own advice any longer. After relocating multiple times for higherpaying jobs, he made the courageous decision to leave behind his corporate career as a TV news executive in May 2021. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one fueled by his passion for motorcycles and storytelling.
Launching "Biker Dad," Best's vision was not merely about motorcycles; it was about the heart and soul of communities. Through his storytelling skills, he aimed to showcase individuals who used their passions to make positive impacts in their surroundings. Over the course of seven years, "Biker Dad" has amassed a substantial online following,
with over 300,000 social media followers and nearly 30 million monthly viewers. Financial viability has been achieved through the support of sponsors who believe in the show's mission.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Best is deeply committed to philanthropy, supporting causes ranging from the Salvation Army to Meals on 2 Wheels. His show serves as a platform to highlight these charitable efforts, inspiring others to make a difference in their communities.
Best's journey has not only impacted his professional trajectory but has also deeply influenced his family. His oldest son, once skeptical, now looks at him with pride. This familial support underscores the significance of pursuing one's dreams and leading by example.
Transitioning from a news executive to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of Biker Dad Productions, LLC, Best continues to chart his own path. His recent visit to a TV station was not to rejoin the news department but to secure airtime for Biker Dad TV. The show's debut on My TV 35 on Sundays, starting September 19th, before moving over to ABC WEAR 3, marks another milestone in his entrepreneurial journey.
Chris Best's story serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us all that it's never too late to chase our dreams and make a meaningful impact in the world. For more information on Biker Dad and its mission, visit TV Biker Dad.com.

Crawford McWilliams
In the sun-kissed haven of Orange Beach, Alabama, Crawford McWilliams leads a vibrant life marked by her diverse roles. A University of Alabama graduate with a degree in Interior Design, Crawford transitioned to art after her mother’s untimely passing, channeling her grief into creating mesmerizing abstract paintings filled with vibrant colors and playful designs.
Crawford co-founded Girls on the Gulf, a successful social media marketing and lifestyle business aimed at helping local enterprises thrive in the digital age. Additionally, she serves as the firm administrator for The Law Offices of Brenton C. McWilliams, specializing in Wills and Estate Planning.
Central to Crawford's life is her beloved family—her husband Brenton and their daughter, Shreve. Born prematurely and diagnosed with CTNNB1 syndrome, a
rare genetic disorder affecting her mobility and speech development, Shreve’s challenges are met with Crawford's unwavering love and joy. Despite the many appointments at Children’s in Birmingham or CHOP in Philadelphia, the family cherishes moments of simplicity and tradition. Shreve, an enthusiastic traveler, has already been on about forty flights, delighting fellow travelers with her greetings, a cherished family ritual.
Crawford and Brenton ensure Shreve’s syndrome doesn’t overshadow their lives, discussing it only after she is asleep. They infuse their medical trips with fun activities, creating lasting memories that go beyond hospital visits. Exploring new sights, enjoying treats, and sharing laughter, Crawford and Brenton aim to fill Shreve’s life with joy and love.
Stepping back from certain commitments, Crawford focuses on her most vital role: being Shreve’s mother. She is deeply involved in rare disease and disability advocacy, dedicating her time to organizations like CTNNB1 Connect and Cure and the Partners in Policymaking of Alabama. Her advocacy aims to support and include individuals with disabilities within society.
Crawford’s cherished project, Coastal Alabama Mothers of Special Needs Children, fosters community among parents. She also serves on the board of SHOW Baldwin, which supports children with disabilities and their families by providing financial aid for therapy and creating inclusive opportunities.
Through her involvement in these meaningful endeavors, Crawford enriches the lives of others while finding fulfillment and purpose in her own journey as a mother and advocate. In the idyllic setting of Orange Beach, amidst the gentle whispers of the Gulf, Crawford McWilliams’s story unfolds— a tale of love, resilience, and unwavering determination. Embracing her daughter Shreve with tenderness, Crawford knows their bond is not just a source of comfort but a beacon of hope, illuminating their path forward with warmth and charm.

Carleigh+ Aaron
Thewedding of Carleigh Rae Searcy and Aaron Stephen Tillman was a heartwarming celebration of a love that blossomed over years of friendship and shared moments. Surrounded by family and friends, their ceremony at Hatcher Farms Venue was nothing short of magical, with the weather perfectly mirroring the joy and warmth of the occasion.
Carleigh, a dental assistant at Alabama Family Dental, and Aaron, a plant operator at UOP Honeywell, first crossed paths at Faith Academy in 2015. Their friendship endured through high school, even after Carleigh gently declined Aaron’s prom invitation. After graduation, their bond grew stronger during trips to Auburn to visit friends and enjoy football games. With every trip, Carleigh found herself more drawn to Aaron’s easygoing nature, shared interests, and the undeniable chemistry.
In October 2021, Aaron bravely confessed his feelings, leading to their first official date. A month later, on November 23, 2021, Aaron asked Carleigh to be his girlfriend, marking the beginning of a beautiful chapter in their lives. Exactly one year later, Aaron planned a surprise proposal that Carleigh would cherish forever.
On their first anniversary, Aaron took Carleigh to The Grand Hotel, planning to celebrate with a sunset dinner. Carleigh had mentioned wanting professional photos, and Aaron made it happen. As they posed for pictures, the photographer asked Carleigh to face the water. When she turned around, Aaron was on one knee, ring in hand. The surprise and joy on Carleigh’s face were unforgettable. Aaron had orchestrated a perfect moment, complete with their parents waiting to celebrate at Dauphin’s in downtown Mobile.
Their wedding day was a dream come true. Carleigh looked stunning in her mermaidstyle dress with a long train, damask lace, a hint of shimmer, and a strapless sweetheart neckline. The colors of sage green, beige, and white added to the elegance. A special touch was that Carleigh’s mother was her “something blue” in a beautiful light blue satin dress.
The ceremony was followed by a reception filled with love and laughter. The four-tier cake, with its strawberry and buttercream layers, white dragged icing texture, and eucalyptus accents, was a work of art. Guests were treated to delicious charcuterie cups during cocktail hour, followed by a dinner of beef tenderloin, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a salad bar. The evening ended with sliders and a sparkler send-off in a vintage 1962 Cadillac.
Carleigh and Aaron’s honeymoon in Bridgetown, Barbados at a Sandals resort was the perfect escape to start their married life. They eagerly await the completion of their new home in Grand Bay, AL, where they will build their future together.
