GAME SHOW NIGHT | WOMEN OF EXCELLENCE
From the Editor
This issue is All About Women, celebrating the strength, resilience, and incredible accomplishments of remarkable local women. We are thrilled to GO PINK in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and excited to introduce our Women of Excellence (WE) segment. WE shines a light on women who are making a difference in the community and in their fields.
In Survivor Stories, we are honored to share the journeys of eight courageous women who have faced breast cancer with grace and determination. Their experiences serve as powerful reminders of hope and underscore the importance of supporting one another during life’s challenges.
We also highlight other women making a difference in our community, including SuperMom Bailey Stitt, Community Leaders Donna Givens, Jennifer Fidler and Frances Holk-Jones as well as Andolyn Fitzgerald, who is featured in People You Should Know. Each of these women is dedicated to uplifting those around them, and their contributions deserve recognition.
Additionally, this issue is packed with exciting events such as Game Show Night and the Make Waves Benefit. We hope you enjoy this issue as much as the team at Social Coastal enjoyed bringing it to life. We are humbled by the community’s support and thankful for the opportunity to share the stories of these amazing local people and organizations.

IFEMALE PIONEERS
n 2022, Baldwin County made history by sending its first three women to the Alabama House of Representatives, having never sent a female representative before. Donna Givens of Loxley, Jennifer Fidler of Silverhill and Frances Holk-Jones of Foley stepped into roles once dominated by men, bringing with them a wealth of experience, passion, and a commitment to their communities.
Jennifer Fidler’s journey into politics stemmed from her experiences in city and county government. Recognizing the critical role state representatives play in addressing local issues, she felt compelled to act. “There was no good reason not to get involved,” she noted, determined to represent the needs of Baldwin County.
For six generations, her family has lived and worked in Baldwin County, contributing to its agricultural tradition, which her father and brother continue on their peanut and beef farm in Silverhill. Jennifer says, “I am honored to do my part as a steward of Baldwin County, advocating for its growth while preserving its cherished features.”
Her background as a public works director allowed her to oversee significant projects, and she credits her leadership roles with preparing her for the demands of her new position. Among her proudest moments is sponsoring the Joe Faust Living Shoreline Act, a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at environmental preservation.
For Jennifer, being one of the first women in the House is both a privilege and a responsibility. “I’ve always believed that gender should never define capability,” she affirmed.
Donna
Givens always felt a strong pull toward public service. During her 47-year career working at Baldwin EMC, she developed vital connections with local and state officials, gaining an intimate understanding of the needs of her community. Her tenure as the cooperative’s Government and Community Affairs Administrator prepared her well for the legislative arena. When Coach Harry Shiver announced his retirement from the House, Donna knew it was her moment. “I felt called to step up,” she said. “The people of my district needed someone with a servant’s heart.”
“I hit the ground running,” she recalled, leveraging her experience to advocate for her constituents. Among her proudest achievements is the Baby Safe Box legislation, which provides safe havens for parents unable to care for their newborns, allowing them to be adopted by loving families. “It’s already making a difference,” she beamed. Additionally, her work on human trafficking legislation sent a clear message: Alabama would not tolerate such heinous acts against children.
Being one of Baldwin County’s first female representatives is an honor she doesn’t take lightly. “It’s a long wait, but having Frances and Jennifer alongside me means we can lift each other up as we work for our districts,” she said, emphasizing their collaborative spirit.
FIDLER
HOLKJONES
Alabama
ForFrances Holk-Jones, politics was ingrained in her upbringing. Her father and grandfather served as Mayor of Foley which instilled in her a deep respect for public service. “I always admired people like Rep. Steve McMillan, who genuinely cared for their constituents,” she reflected. When the opportunity arose, she knew she had to seize it.
With decades of experience in the insurance industry, Frances found her skills translated well into the legislative sphere. “Customer service is crucial,” she stated, as she works to address everything from tax refunds to tourism grants. One of her major accomplishments includes passing a statewide bill that expanded the legal scope for licensed social workers, enabling them to diagnose and create treatment plans. As part of the Opioid Settlement Oversight Committee, she helped allocate $30 million to support addiction treatment programs, mental health organizations, and schools.
Being part of Baldwin County’s legislative history is a source of pride for Frances. “It’s about time we had women in the House,” she said with a smile. “Together, we can tackle any issue and forge victories for our community.”
As these three trailblazers continue their work in Montgomery, they embody the spirit of Baldwin County—grounded in tradition yet boldly embracing the future. Together, they are not only reshaping the political landscape but also inspiring a new generation of leaders, proving that women’s voices are vital in crafting the future of Alabama.

Our Thanks TO THE WOMEN OF
HALE Stephanie
With more than 30 years of experience in the construction supply industry, Stephanie Hale brings valuable insight and leadership to Coastal Stone & Cabinetry in Fairhope, AL, where she serves as Co-Owner and President. A proud resident of Fairhope for over 20 years, Stephanie and her husband Mike have raised three children together during their 31-year marriage.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the Baldwin County Home Builders Association (BCHBA) and is the Chair of the local Professional Women in Building (PWB) chapter. Her passion for PWB comes from her belief in breaking barriers for women in the construction industry—a field traditionally dominated by men.
Stephanie has seen firsthand how women can excel in everything from skilled labor to technical, professional and design roles. Her mission is to inspire women to explore the endless career opportunities available within the construction world.
What initiatives are you most proud of as chair of Baldwin County's Professional Women in Building chapter?
One of my proudest achievements with PWB has been working alongside Marsha Jordan, Nancy Grace, all of our PWB members and Morrel Baxter launching a week-long, hands-on camp designed to empower young girls in grades 7 through 9. Partnering with the Baldwin County Career & Technical School, these camps have grown in popularity and impact, providing girls with practical experience and exposure to careers in construction.

Ginger has been instrumental in the success of Beachball Properties in the vacation rental industry. Alongside her husband, Hunter, they have strategically grown their portfolio to over 300 properties along Alabama's beautiful Gulf Coast in just eight years. Her legal background equips her to guide property owners through the complexities of vacation rental ownership. An alumna of the University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi School of Law, her academic journey ignited her passion for entrepreneurship, branding, and marketing. She is a proud mother of two beautiful children.
What contribution to your industry of which are you the proudest?
I’m proud of my work on the Alabama Tourism Protection Act, which became state law on October 1st. Collaborating with G.U.M.B.O., the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism Board, and the Alabama Department of Revenue, we helped pass legislation protecting property managers from unfair financial burdens imposed by platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo. I've been featured on industry podcasts and am now assisting vacation rental managers in other states with similar efforts.
How are you involved in the community?
Beachball Properties is proud to be a Gulf Coast Chamber Champion, supporting community events like PowHER Hour, a luncheon empowering woman in business, and family events at The Wharf, such as the Kids’ New Year’s Eve Confetti Drop and the Independence Day Street Party. I also serve on the AHA’s Executive Leadership Board and was the past president of the Pleasure Island Junior Woman’s Club. I manage local Facebook groups to share events and resources and plan to run for Orange Beach City Council in 2025.

CEO FOUNDER
WEEKS
My breast cancer journey unfolded a little differently than most... in a good way. In August 2023, a suspicious spot was found during my routine 3D mammogram. There was no lump, just a spot. I had a biopsy on August 21, and two days later, the Breast Cancer Center at Mobile Infirmary confirmed I had breast cancer. Fortunately, my patient advocate had already scheduled appointments with an oncology surgeon, a radiation oncologist, and a plastic surgeon.
During my first appointment, Dr. Caroline McGugin, my surgeon, reassured me by saying, “You are not going to die from this.” I felt an immense sense of relief. She explained my options: a right mastectomy with no further treatment or a lumpectomy followed by radiation and five years of oral
Jeannine LeAnn
medication. I chose the mastectomy and, as a result, required no further treatment. My surgery took place in September, and I’m now celebrating one year cancer-free.
My advice to all women is simple: get your yearly mammogram, and make it 3D. My risk for breast cancer was extremely low based on my family and medical history, so the diagnosis was a complete shock. Early detection saved my life.
While I’m not active in cancer support groups, I leaned on two friends who were diagnosed at the same time and on my prayer group, family, co-workers and friends, whose love and support carried me through this journey.
DYE
I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer in 2008 after a routine OB/GYN visit. My doctor felt a lump and referred me to a surgeon, who diagnosed breast cancer before performing a lumpectomy. I was stunned, as there was no family history. Navigating this journey was filled with fear, but I chose to proceed with faith and guidance from my medical team. After testing, I underwent a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
Sixteen years later, the doctors at SCC are my heroes; they provided options and support, allowing me to make informed decisions.
After recovery, I initially wanted nothing to do with “cancer,” but this journey deepened my relationship with God and my caregivers. I was amazed at how they
encouraged others daily and, after a year, realized how much I missed them. The nurses and staff at Daphne SCC have become family.
Since two years post-diagnosis, I’ve volunteered at SCC in Daphne for 14 years. I view this as a way to give back to the oncology “angels” who helped me. I come once a week to meet patients, assist with wigs, or just chat. The people I’ve met are incredible!
Throughout this experience, I’ve stayed strong, thanks to many—God, my family, Dr. Reece Jones, and the amazing staff who encouraged me. It takes a supportive community of those who have lived, loved, and sometimes lost to keep us motivated to stay strong.
“We take pride in what our grandfather and father started and in keeping with their legacy, we will continue to offer beautiful, quality products at fair prices. And always put our clients’ satisfaction first.”
“This journey deepened my relationship with God and my caregivers.”
In 2003, following in their grandfather's and father's footsteps, Tootsie Hollis Allen and Kelly Hollis, who were raised inside the store, took over the family business and added their specialty of interior design during a dramatic shift in the economy forcing Tootsie and Kelly to work harder than ever, taught by their father to always put the customer first and to go the extra mile doing whatever it takes to get the job completed to perfection.
Hollis Interiors offers complete design services for homes and vacation homes. Working on any budget, we provide access to products that enhance the design and attention to detail and personalized service including furnishings, both new and antique, designer fabrics and home accessories. This venture offers a sense of self that our target market desires and can afford, in a way that is unique from start to finish.

She is passionate about her work and especially enjoys working with children – she has written a wonderful book (for both kids and parents) called The Tooth Fairy Helper
What inspired you to pursue a career in orthodontics, and what motivated you to open your own practice?
My teeth were horrible as a child. My mom was a dental assistant and worked hard to be able to afford to correct my smile. It changed my life. What one word describes you?

Can you tell us about your book, The Tooth Fairy Helper, and what inspired you to write it?

The other part of the book contains a short children's story about a parent's love and how quickly they grow up. It's based on my own experience with four incredible children and being blessed to watch them grow into four incredible adults.

Empowering Women and Building Community
Since its founding in 1987, Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. has been on a mission to inspire senior women across the state to pursue their dreams, share their gifts, and embrace a purpose-filled life. The nonprofit organization encourages women, aged 60 to 79, to engage in community outreach and volunteerism, proving that it’s never too late to try something new. Ms. Senior Alabama’s unique blend of sisterhood, service, and pageantry builds self-esteem, confidence, and lifelong friendships, providing a platform for women to shine and celebrate their unique qualities.
IMPACT & GIVE BACK
“We
volunteer with Ms. Senior Alabama because the women that join us express that the organization changes their lives in giving them purpose and a sisterhood of support.”
– Kim Crawford Meeks, Executive Director Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc.
Ms. Senior Alabama is much more than a pageant; it is a community of women lifting each other up. From retirement center performances to supporting veterans at horse ranches and serving ice cream to children, the organization’s delegates are passionate about giving back. They also share their philosophies of life and platforms they are deeply committed to, sending a powerful message of empowerment to senior women throughout Alabama.
In South Alabama, Ms. Senior Alabama’s impact has been remarkable. In 2023, the women participated in over 170 events, from Bras Across the Causeway to the Apollo’s Mystic Ladies Mardi Gras Parade. They also launched the Human Sunshine Award, which honors local heroes like firefighters who go above and beyond in serving their community. This recognition has since spread across the state, with Ms. Senior Alabama women presenting awards to deserving individuals.
One heartwarming success story highlights the transformative power of Ms. Senior Alabama. A woman who once doubted her self-worth found the courage to apply after encouragement from the organization. She competed, found her confidence, and now serves on the Board of Directors while also running her own business. Her journey is a testament to the organization’s ability to uplift women and give them a renewed sense of purpose.
However, the nonprofit faces challenges. Recruitment remains difficult as many women express hesitation due to a lack of confidence. Yet, once women join the sisterhood, they are embraced by a supportive community that empowers them to thrive. Executive Director of Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. Kim Crawford Meeks emphasizes the impact of the organization, sharing, “We volunteer with Ms. Senior Alabama because the women that join us express that the organization changes their lives in giving them purpose and a sisterhood of support.”
Looking ahead, Ms. Senior Alabama invites the community to get involved. With sponsorships and votes for their People’s Choice competition, the organization can continue to keep costs down for its delegates and provide a transformative experience.
Ms. Senior Alabama’s long-term goal is to continue fostering a culture of support, volunteerism, and purpose for senior women across Alabama. Through their message that every woman has a story worth sharing, they hope to inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.
Applications for the 2025 pageant are now open, and a retreat at Beckwith Camp and Conference Center in Fairhope is planned for February 2025. Please visit mssenioralabama.com to learn more.

She and her husband, Peter, now own and operate 7 locations of CSC in Baldwin and Mobile Counties. They are humbled by the community's support, its love for their food, and the appreciation for how much they give back.

I worked in corporate marketing and marketing consulting in Georgia and Alabama and believe marketing is simply the science of selling. In June 2022, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. By January 2023, I was in remission, but the journey to get there was tough. Throughout it all, I learned the importance of being your own advocate. For anyone newly diagnosed, I can’t stress enough how vital it is to research, ask questions, and explore every option. The more you know, the more control you can maintain over your own health.
Healing is not just physical; it’s mental too. Keeping a positive attitude made a huge difference in my recovery. It pushed me to keep fighting, even on the hardest days.
I found purpose through volunteering with the American Cancer Society in Baldwin County. Helping raise funds for wigs, transportation, and other needs for chemo patients made me feel like I could make a difference, just as others did for me.
My support system was my lifeline. My mother, a cancer survivor herself, walked every step with me. My husband pushed me to believe in my strength when I doubted it. And my faith, along with my doctors and friends, kept me grounded. Surrounded by such love and strength, there was no other choice but to heal and become the best version of myself again.

On June 1, 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. While remission is still a couple of years away, the journey has already been long and full of steps. After surgery in September 2023, I began radiation in February 2024, finishing just two weeks before my wedding. I now take a daily pill, a monthly shot, and will continue treatments until Spring 2025, with no clear end for the pill and shots.
Cancer is not just about when you’re diagnosed, but the type you face. The advice I hold close is simple: take it step by step. Cancer treatment feels like a maze of decision trees—tests, scans,
and needles. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but I focus on what’s next, breathing deeply and moving forward.
My involvement in cancer organizations like Susan G. Komen, Sloan Kettering, and Hope Blooms has given me perspective. I’ve supported these causes for years, yet never thought I’d be walking this path myself. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S. daily, and through Hope Blooms, I now help bring positivity to others battling this disease.
Strength ebbs and flows, but I’ve got an amazing support system of family, friends, and coworkers. The staff at Mitchell Cancer Institute are a constant source of comfort. It’s a long road, but with hope, I take it one step at a time.
MOM SUPER Bailey Stitt
Bailey Stitt has deep roots in this community that she loves so much. She was born in Fairhope and moved to Orange Beach in 2000, and apart from her college years, she has spent her entire life in Baldwin County. Watching the area grow and flourish has been a joy for Bailey, and now, she is thrilled to share that experience with her son, Brooks. Alongside her husband, Adam, Bailey feels blessed to raise their son in the same place where they both grew up.
Bailey is a Certified Financial Planner and Wealth Management Advisor with Harris, O’Neill, Stitt Associates at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. She’s been married to Adam for nearly seven years, and together they have a 4-month-old son, Brooks, and a golden doodle named Sadie. Becoming a mother has been the most fulfilling experience for Bailey, and she hopes Brooks will always remember the unconditional love and joy he’s brought into her life.
“My biggest hope is that Brooks remembers how much I love him and the joy he’s given me. Watching him experience life through fresh eyes is indescribable,” Bailey says.
Bailey’s passion for wealth management has deep family ties. Her father worked at Merrill Lynch for 39 years, and his work anniversary is also her birthday. "Wealth management offers the perfect blend of building meaningful relationships while helping people achieve financial success," she says. She loves guiding families through significant life decisions and cherishes the trust she builds with her clients.
Being a new working mom has introduced Bailey to the delicate art of balance. “It’s a constant juggling act, but it’s incredibly fulfilling. I want to set an example for Brooks that it’s possible to work hard while prioritizing family,” Bailey explains. She believes that being a working mom will enrich Brooks’s life by teaching him the value of independence, resilience, and the importance of pursuing his passions.
Bailey is particularly proud of her ability to adapt and persevere when life throws challenges her way. “I’ve learned the importance of tenacity, and I hope to teach Brooks that setbacks are okay, as long as you keep going,” she says.
In addition to her professional work, Bailey is passionate about community involvement. She serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Impact 100 Baldwin County, a women’s organization dedicated to transforming lives through high-impact grants. She finds immense joy in making a difference alongside other strong, driven women.
Bailey Stitt is truly a supermom—dedicated to her family, career, and community—juggling it all with grace and resilience.

She also enjoys cooking, hosting gatherings, and exploring the many festivals, restaurants, and activities Baldwin County has to offer.
What led you to this particular path in business?
I have a degree in business and an MBA, and I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business. After years of research, I found the perfect fit when my husband and I were searching for window coverings and discovered Gotcha Covered. That planted the seed, and I ran with it. It's been an amazing experience working with clients over the past five years.
What woman do you most try to emulate in your life?
I admire women who are passionate, determined, and goal-oriented. A woman on a mission to build the best life for her family has no limitations.
How do you stay passionate about your work? Working with diverse clients and products keeps me learning and creating daily, which keeps me engaged and excited.
How are you involved in the community? I’ve been involved with the Baldwin County Home Builders Association, local Chambers of Commerce, and the Junior League of Mobile. I also attend Island Church in Orange Beach and participate in community activities regularly.
What one word describes you?
Particular. Not picky or perfect. Just particular. I have a vision for most everything I do and expect it to result with that outcome.

After her father's illness prompted a re-evaluation of life, she and her husband decided to retire early. What advice would you give to other women considering a major career change?
If you're in a stable financial position and able to make the change, I say go for it. Since retiring and switching careers, I haven’t looked back and highly recommend it if you can. While I’m busier now than before, I’m doing what I want, when I want. It’s incredibly rewarding to return to volunteering and socializing in my communities.
How do you select the items you sell at Emporium@C? I buy and bring in what I like. I try to keep our inventory fresh with both local and unique “coastal chic” gifts and apparel, and I listen to what our customers tell us they want and like.
How does Emporium@C contribute to the local community?
We collaborate with local artisans to feature their items in our store and support local charities through sponsorships, volunteer work, and donations. I’m involved in various organizations in Orange Beach and New Orleans, and we are committed to giving back to the community.

What led you to this particular path in business?
A good friend I met during my time with a previous employer encouraged me to join her team. I was also attending culinary arts classes at the time dreaming of owning a food truck, but I decided to take a chance on a new career. My strengths in listening and problem-solving helped me succeed as I studied covenants, walked properties, and addressed concerns from boards and owners, embracing challenges both big and small.
What women do you most try to emulate in your life and why?
My grandmother & my mother. My grandmother taught me to pray about everything, while my mother always said, “Go look it up!” Both lessons have shaped me and apply directly to this business.
How do you approach challenges that come your way?
A lot of prayer, and one by one.
McNEIL GULSBY
Oh no! It can’t be. Breast cancer. I have no family history of it, and I’ve always kept up with my mammograms. But after my April 2024 screening, I got the dreaded callback for more tests, leading to a breast cancer diagnosis. Surgery, radiation, and ongoing cancer medication followed.
Before retiring, I worked in hospital community outreach, celebrating October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month with survivor stories and educational programs. I admired those survivors, never imagining I’d have my own story to share.
At my age, I was ready to stop mammograms, but I decided on one last screening. Thankfully, it caught the
cancer early. I’m doing well now, thanks to incredible support from my family, friends, church, and the dedicated healthcare professionals at Thomas Hospital, the Breast Center, and the Cancer Center. Their care has been inspiring, and I’m confident in reaching remission.
Friends who’ve survived breast cancer have shared their journeys, helping me stay positive, keep faith, and smile through it all. It works!
No matter your age, please schedule your mammogram. It could save your life and give you the chance to ring that bell in victory.

In January 2022, my world changed with a breast cancer diagnosis. Determined to fight, I began 16 rounds of chemotherapy in March, followed by a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, and 33 rounds of radiation, finishing in November 2022.
My advice: educate yourself about your diagnosis and treatment, trust your medical team, and get a second opinion if needed. Lean on other survivors—they’re heroes and a vital source of support.
Throughout my journey, I was overwhelmed by the love and generosity from friends, family, and my community. We were
surrounded by prayer, on countless prayer lists from churches and groups. It was incredible to feel so loved during such a scary time.
Every cancer journey is unique. My goal was to stay positive and beat this disease, knowing I’d come out stronger. My positive outlook helped reassure those around me, especially my young children. I wanted them to see my strength and know I’d be okay.
In our house, we say, “Some things in life stink.” This stinks, but we’ll get through it and celebrate on the other side. I’m forever grateful to be on this side, and I’ll celebrate every minute of it!

Real estate is never boring—it's constantly evolving, and I have the privilege of meeting new people every day. This dynamic environment makes it easy to be passionate about my career.

How do you manage running two very different businesses simultaneously?
It's insanely busy. I rely on a meticulous, color-coded paper planner to manage my time for both businesses and my family. The most important thing I’ve learned in the past seven months is to give myself grace.
How do you stay ahead of fashion trends and curate pieces that resonate with your customers?
Social media is key for me, and I follow a few high-end influencers. Most trends start in high fashion houses. At market, I watch for patterns in emerging trends that haven't fully saturated vendors yet. People have also long admired my style and encouraged me to open a store, so I also curate pieces I personally love— because having your own style is always on trend!

Melanie Grein is an abstract acrylic painter who moved to Fairhope full time 3 years ago to be with her family. For her show in September, she put her abstracts on hold. She wanted to capture the magic of Fairhope to show the community the monumental impact their kindness, generosity, love, and support has had on her.
Melanie lost almost everything she owned in a fire, but with her friends beside her, the gift of several ball gowns, and bags of ball gown material from alterations incorporating our very own Fairhope ball gowns, this series began. "This community helped me get back on my feet. I love this town..." The series is titled Fairhope Fabulous.
Her works are in private and corporate collections across the United States, including The Ritz Carlton and The Four Seasons. She is represented by Lyons Share Gallery in Fairhope, AL and Walker Fine Art in Denver, CO.

In October 2014, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Having dealt with Fibro-Cystic disease since my 20s, I’d had numerous mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies. However, I delayed my annual mammogram due to a busy move from Atlanta to Coastal Alabama. When I finally went, the results were concerning. I underwent a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, and five months of chemotherapy. Thankfully, I’ve been cancer-free for ten years and continue to attend annual oncologist appointments.
My advice to newly diagnosed women is to stay strong, ask questions, research your options, and take control of your health. You decide what treatment is best for you. I’m always here to support and encourage others facing this journey—you can beat this disease.
Though I never joined a formal support group, my family, friends, co-workers, and faith community provided incredible support. My oncologist, Dr. Reece Jones at
GOODMAN Vickie Melanie
Southern Cancer Center in Foley, has been compassionate and caring. Prayer carried me through, knowing God has a reason for keeping me here.
Since my diagnosis, I’ve celebrated my daughter’s graduation with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, her wedding, and the birth of my grandson. I am so grateful to still be here and share these moments!
On January 4th, my life changed when I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductile Carcinoma, Grade 3, Triple Negative. After finding a painful spot before my routine mammogram, I advocated for further testing, leading to a biopsy that caught the aggressive cancer early at Stage 1.
Within weeks, I began chemotherapy, facing challenges, including liver complications. My tumor shrank, and in June, I had a bilateral mastectomy, which confirmed the cancer hadn’t spread. My medical team—Heather Long, Dr. Leslie Evans, Dr. Caroline McGugin, Dr. Jose Galeas, and Dr. Ryan Rebowe—were incredible, treating me like family throughout my treatment.
Breaking the news to my boys was tough, but we found release at Shattered, bonding over breaking things. When my hair began to fall out, I embraced it, gathering my girlfriends for wine and haircuts. Though I never wanted to join this “club,” I’m in it with some of the fiercest women I know.
Now cancer-free, I reflect on the journey and the lessons learned. My advice: advocate for yourself, lean on your village, and give yourself grace. Cancer pushes you to your limits, but faith and community carry you through. God’s guidance and the unwavering support of my family, friends, church, and work families kept me strong. We can do hard things, and “God winks” are there to guide us forward.
Andolyn Fitzgerald Legacy of Service
Born in New Orleans and raised in Mobile, Andolyn Fitzgerald has called Baldwin County home since 2004. She is a dedicated community advocate and continues her work as a doula, although with her seven children spread across the country, she has scaled back to attending just three or four births per year. "It is such an honor and delight to participate in a family’s birth," she says, reflecting on her two decades of experience teaching Bradley Method Husband-Coached Childbirth classes. Her passion for childbirth education and doula work stemmed from her own love of pregnancy and raising children.
Fitzgerald's deep commitment to her community is evident through her involvement in numerous local organizations. She is a longtime member of Impact 100 Baldwin County, which awards grants to local nonprofits. She has also served on the board of The Lighthouse, a nonprofit agency providing domestic violence and sexual assault services across several Alabama counties. She served as the organization’s president for two years. Her passion for supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault has profoundly shaped her outlook on community service.
In addition to her advocacy work, Fitzgerald is heavily involved with the Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre (ESRT) Auxiliary. Over the past 15 years, she and her family have been active in the local theatre scene, and Fitzgerald now serves as the Auxiliary’s president. She is particularly
proud of their scholarship program, which allows students to explore their love of theatre.
Fitzgerald's enthusiasm for service also extends to the National Charity League of the Eastern Shore, where she participates alongside her daughters. "Some of our favorite experiences have been working with the Exceptional Foundation, Prodisee Pantry, and The Haven," she shares. She has held various leadership roles within the organization since 2016, reflecting her dedication to helping others and setting an example for her children. Andolyn also immensely enjoys working with DreamCatcher Equine Therapy Farm, Drug Education Council, and Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation.
Andolyn credits much of her strength and success to her husband John, her "biggest cheerleader." “John is an amazing husband and father. He is so compassionate, patient, and encouraging,” she shares with gratitude. He serves as the president of Saunders Yachtworks, our family business which was founded in 1959. We feel extremely fortunate to be a part of a family legacy and to walk in the footsteps of my grandfather, Andrew Saunders, Sr., and my father, Andrew Saunders Jr. We are very proud of Yachtworks and all of our employees. The pillars of Saunders Yachtworks are tradition, performance, and integrity. We truly endeavor to live by those ideals every day!” Both Andolyn and John are involved with Hope Community. He serves on the board as Treasurer, and she is the chairperson of the Communications Committee. Hope Community’s mission is nurturing unity and relationships through food, healing, and education.
A key influence in Andolyn’s dedication to service was the example set by her parents, Andrew and Carolyn Saunders, who were actively involved in civic and conservation efforts. Now, Andolyn hopes to pass those same values down to her children. "I love getting to know people and forming meaningful relationships," she says. "I truly believe that when I give of myself to these different non-profit organizations, I help create a stronger, more vibrant community."

As fall descends upon Orange Beach, excitement brews for the inaugural Gumbo Fest at Coast-AL. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of the Gulf Coast, the festival aims to unite locals and visitors alike in a celebration of community, music, and, of course, the beloved dish of gumbo.
"Coast-AL Orange Beach is a lifestyle, and we are so fortunate to live in an area with the most beautiful white sandy beaches, warm climate, deep musical roots, rich culinary history, and the best community locals and visitors could want," organizers shared. Moreover, the festival has a philanthropic mission; $5 from every ticket sold will support a scholarship fund for Baldwin County students pursuing culinary or hospitality careers. As the inaugural event, the organizers hope to establish Gumbo Fest as a beloved annual tradition that embraces the region’s rich heritage.
With trophies and bragging rights up for grabs, the competition promises to be both exhilarating and enjoyable. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with food, music, and the warm, welcoming spirit of Southern hospitality. Blair
+Larry

Blair Smith and Larry Lee were wed in a beautiful ceremony at Heron Pointe at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Blair, an ICU nurse, and Larry, a trauma surgeon, first crossed paths at work, where Blair never imagined the “cool new attending” would notice her. “I got the courage to invite him to breakfast one morning after work, and the rest is history,” Blair shared with a smile.
Their romance blossomed during night shifts, and after nearly three years of dating, Larry proposed at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. The location was sentimental for the couple, as it was where they shared one of their first dates. Larry made sure the moment was perfect, complete with roses, Blair's parents in attendance, and Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” playing in the background. “It was everything I could have dreamed of,” Blair said. “He nailed it!”
The couple’s wedding day was nothing short of magical, with a black-and-white theme and Blair dressed in a stunning sequined and lace gown with a floral design. Her veil, adorned with pearls, completed the look. The ceremony included many memorable details, including
the couple’s son Holland as the ring bearer, making his grand entrance in a white remote-controlled car, and their eight-year-old English Bulldog, Beau, who loyally stood beside Blair during the ceremony.
Both Beau and Holland became the stars of the day, with Beau happily wandering around the reception, receiving plenty of attention from guests. “Beau was living his best life,” Blair laughed, “and Holland stole everyone’s hearts!”
The reception was filled with laughter, love, and a few surprises. One of the highlights was Larry’s spontaneous dance with a mop, a moment that had everyone in stitches. Guests dined on a delicious menu of shrimp and grits, gouda mashed potatoes, steak bites with gorgonzola sauce, and more.
The cakes were just as memorable. The wedding cake was a four-tiered, elegant white design adorned with fresh white roses, featuring alternating layers of caramel and almond flavors. For the groom’s cake, a red velvet creation shaped like a Patron bottle—Larry’s favorite— wowed everyone.
Blair and Larry are happily settled in Daphne, Alabama, with plans to celebrate their first anniversary with a special trip. “We just weren’t ready to be away from Holland,” Blair said. For now, the newlyweds are savoring their beautiful wedding day memories and the joy of starting their married life together.

The mission of this group is to promote and empower women in business in the Perdido Key area.
