This issue is All About Women, celebrating the strength, resilience, and incredible accomplishments of remarkable local women. We are thrilled to GO PINK in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and excited to introduce our Women of Excellence (WE) segment. WE shines a light on women who are making a difference in the community and in their fields.

In Survivor Stories, we are honored to share the journeys of eight courageous women who have faced breast cancer with grace and determination. Their experiences serve as powerful reminders of hope and underscore the importance of supporting one another during life’s challenges.

We also highlight other women making a difference in our community, including SuperMom Bailey Stitt, Community Leaders Donna Givens, Jennifer Fidler and Frances Holk-Jones as well as Andolyn Fitzgerald, who is featured in People You Should Know. Each of these women is dedicated to uplifting those around them, and their contributions deserve recognition.

Additionally, this issue is packed with exciting events such as the Flourish Fete. We hope you enjoy this issue as much as the team at Social Eastern Shore enjoyed bringing it to life. We are humbled by the community’s support and thankful for the opportunity to share the stories of these amazing local people and organizations.

WE SUPPORT THE FIGHT!

Building Confident FUTURES

Flourish is a non-profit organization in Baldwin County, Alabama, dedicated to serving teen girls from underresourced communities. Launched in 2020 by founder Natalie Wynn, the organization’s mission is to empower girls aged 13-18 through mentorship, personal growth, and community support. Flourish provides a safe and supportive environment, equipping young women to live with confidence, resilience, and purpose.

At this free community center in Daphne, Flourish offers two core programs. “Empower” workshops, for girls ages 13-18, focus on building self-confidence, mental and physical health, creative arts, and community service projects. For older girls ages 15-18, the “Equip” program helps prepare them for career and educational opportunities. In addition, Flourish partners with local schools to offer “Empower Her,” a 10-week in-school development program.

A key initiative is the “girlie goods” project, providing monthly supplies of toiletries and feminine products to over eight schools and organizations in the area. These efforts are essential in supporting the basic needs of the girls they serve.

Flourish was born out of Natalie’s experience working with women recovering from human trafficking and under-resourced communities. Disturbing statistics—such as the average entry age into sex trafficking being 12-14 years old, and suicide being the second leading cause of death for teen girls—motivated her to create a safe place where girls could find guidance and support.

One of Flourish’s greatest success stories is when girls keep coming back. Recently, a girl served by the center shared that she was hesitant at first, but after being encouraged to give the program a try, she thrived. Today, she is one of the most welcoming and confident members. “I’m not as anxious when I’m in a safe environment,” she said. “I know that if something were to go wrong, it’d be fine because I could get the help I needed. It’s less stressful.” She is now thriving in high school and has been accepted into the culinary program at the new Baldwin County Preparatory Academy.

Despite its many successes, Flourish faces challenges. Around 60-70% of the girls they serve report suicidal thoughts or major depressive episodes. Providing therapy, which costs $75 per session, and addressing transportation issues are major priorities as the organization seeks to expand its reach.

The community can support Flourish through sponsorship, donations, or joining their monthly donor program. As Flourish looks toward 2025, its goal is to expand its school programs and provide more mental health services, ensuring that more girls have the opportunity to flourish.

Our Thanks TO THE WOMEN OF

HALE

With more than 30 years of experience in the construction supply industry, Stephanie Hale brings valuable insight and leadership to Coastal Stone & Cabinetry in Fairhope, AL, where she serves as Co-Owner and President. A proud resident of Fairhope for over 20 years, Stephanie and her husband Mike have raised three children together during their 31-year marriage.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Baldwin County Home Builders Association (BCHBA) and is the Chair of the local Professional Women in Building (PWB) chapter. Her passion for PWB comes from her belief in breaking barriers for women in the construction industry—a field traditionally dominated by men.

Stephanie has seen firsthand how women can excel in everything from skilled labor to technical, professional and design roles. Her mission is to inspire women to explore the endless career opportunities available within the construction world.

What initiatives are you most proud of as chair of Baldwin County's Professional Women in Building chapter?

One of my proudest achievements with PWB has been working alongside Marsha Jordan, Nancy Grace, all of our PWB members and Morrel Baxter launching a week-long, hands-on camp designed to empower young girls in grades 7 through 9. Partnering with the Baldwin County Career & Technical School, these camps have grown in popularity and impact, providing girls with practical experience and exposure to careers in construction.

HOLLIMON PHILLIPPI Amy

Licensed Psychologist

Amy Hollimon Counseling LLC

7 South Summit Street, Fairhope 251.284.1843

Amy Hollimon Phillippi is a counseling psychologist whose career path has been guided by a “yes” attitude and a desire to help people, especially adolescents. She opened her private practice nearly a decade ago, after spending 20 years as a senior trainer and researcher in family therapy, a role that took her across the U.S. and abroad. She now focuses on individuals, couples, and family therapy. Additionally, Amy serves as a special master in Baldwin County Circuit Court, working in high-conflict custody cases. She is grateful for every "yes" opportunity, loves that she contributes to her community and enjoys time at home with her daughters and husband. She shares, "Every day I am grateful that this is my life."

What woman do you most try to emulate in your life and why?

I laughed when I read this question because I knew the answer immediately. I try to emulate my mother, Beverly Smith (aka Jingles). She creates opportunities for connection, advocates for those in need, and celebrates women. She loves fiercely and works hard for her family. Her generosity, vibrant approach to life, and authenticity inspire me daily. I also strive to love and support others like she does.

How are you involved in the community?

I have served on the board for many amazing local nonprofits: Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation, Thomas Hospital Foundation and Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation and support other community programs: Flourish Community for Teen Girls, Impact 100 Baldwin County and Baldwin Family Village. My favorite involvement is connecting with others, celebrating local business owners, and promoting the successes of people in Fairhope and Baldwin County.

DYKEN Dr. Renee

Orthodontist

D.M.D., M.S.

Dr.Renee Dyken is proud to have completed Phase III of the American Board of Orthodontics exam to become a Diplomat of the ABO. The ABO is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and sponsored by the American Association of Orthodontists.

A minority of orthodontists have completed Phase III of the exam.

Dr. Dyken is committed to striving for excellence for her patients. She is passionate about her work and especially enjoys working with children – she has written a wonderful book (for both kids and parents) called The Tooth Fairy Helper

What inspired you to pursue a career in orthodontics, and what motivated you to open your own practice?

My teeth were horrible as a child. My mom was a dental assistant and worked hard to be able to afford to correct my smile. It changed my life. I knew instantly that I wanted to be an orthodontist and have my own practice where I would be able to provide affordable treatment for anyone who wanted or needed to correct their smile.

What one word describes you?

Driven. I wake up bouncing out of bed excited about interacting with the wonderful people I know or will meet and feeling blessed to be able to have the career that I passionately enjoy.

Can you tell us about your book, The Tooth Fairy Helper, and what inspired you to write it?

The Tooth Fairy Helper is actually two books in one. One part of the book provides dental health education and lets parents know what to expect with tooth loss and growth.

The other part of the book contains a short children's story about a parent's love and how quickly they grow up. It's based on my own experience with four incredible children and being blessed to watch them grow into four incredible adults.

What advice would you give to other women looking to make a bold career change?

Embrace your passion and don’t be afraid to take calculated risks; every step outside your comfort zone can lead to incredible opportunities.

What woman do you most try to emulate in your life and why?

I admire Marilyn Monroe for her strength and ability to break barriers in a male-dominated industry, as she embraced her uniqueness and left a lasting impact on the world of fashion and beauty.

How do you approach challenges that come your way? I view challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation, using them as motivation to adapt and find creative solutions.

What keeps you passionate about your business day to day?

The joy of helping women express their individuality through fashion fuels my passion, as does the sense of community we build in the boutique.

How are you involved in the community? What local organizations do you support?

I’m proud to be involved with Impact 100 Baldwin County, a community of women dedicated to transforming lives by awarding high-impact grants to local nonprofits. Additionally, I actively support local schools in their fundraising efforts, helping to enrich educational opportunities for our youth

What is your favorite movie?

"The Devil Wears Prada," as it perfectly captures the fashion industry’s challenges and the pursuit of personal style.

WEEKS

My breast cancer journey unfolded a little differently than most... in a good way. In August 2023, a suspicious spot was found during my routine 3D mammogram. There was no lump, just a spot. I had a biopsy on August 21, and two days later, the Breast Cancer Center at Mobile Infirmary confirmed I had breast cancer. Fortunately, my patient advocate had already scheduled appointments with an oncology surgeon, a radiation oncologist, and a plastic surgeon.

During my first appointment, Dr. Caroline McGugin, my surgeon, reassured me by saying, “You are not going to die from this.” I felt an immense sense of relief. She explained my options: a right mastectomy with no further treatment or a lumpectomy followed by radiation and five years of oral

Jeannine LeAnn

medication. I chose the mastectomy and, as a result, required no further treatment. My surgery took place in September, and I’m now celebrating one year cancer-free.

My advice to all women is simple: get your yearly mammogram, and make it 3D. My risk for breast cancer was extremely low based on my family and medical history, so the diagnosis was a complete shock. Early detection saved my life.

While I’m not active in cancer support groups, I leaned on two friends who were diagnosed at the same time and on my prayer group, family, co-workers and friends, whose love and support carried me through this journey.

DYE

I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer in 2008 after a routine OB/GYN visit. My doctor felt a lump and referred me to a surgeon, who diagnosed breast cancer before performing a lumpectomy. I was stunned, as there was no family history. Navigating this journey was filled with fear, but I chose to proceed with faith and guidance from my medical team. After testing, I underwent a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

Sixteen years later, the doctors at SCC are my heroes; they provided options and support, allowing me to make informed decisions.

After recovery, I initially wanted nothing to do with “cancer,” but this journey deepened my relationship with God and my caregivers. I was amazed at how they

encouraged others daily and, after a year, realized how much I missed them. The nurses and staff at Daphne SCC have become family.

Since two years post-diagnosis, I’ve volunteered at SCC in Daphne for 14 years. I view this as a way to give back to the oncology “angels” who helped me. I come once a week to meet patients, assist with wigs, or just chat. The people I’ve met are incredible!

Throughout this experience, I’ve stayed strong, thanks to many—God, my family, Dr. Reece Jones, and the amazing staff who encouraged me. It takes a supportive community of those who have lived, loved, and sometimes lost to keep us motivated to stay strong.

“We take pride in what our grandfather and father started and in keeping with their legacy, we will continue to offer beautiful, quality products at fair prices. And always put our clients’ satisfaction first.”

“This journey deepened my relationship with God and my caregivers.”

In 2003, following in their grandfather's and father's footsteps, Tootsie Hollis Allen and Kelly Hollis, who were raised inside the store, took over the family business and added their specialty of interior design during a dramatic shift in the economy forcing Tootsie and Kelly to work harder than ever, taught by their father to always put the customer first and to go the extra mile doing whatever it takes to get the job completed to perfection.

Hollis Interiors offers complete design services for homes and vacation homes. Working on any budget, we provide access to products that enhance the design and attention to detail and personalized service including furnishings, both new and antique, designer fabrics and home accessories. This venture offers a sense of self that our target market desires and can afford, in a way that is unique from start to finish.

What led you to this particular path in business?

My path in this business stems from my love for interior design, architecture, and home furnishings. A desire to help people see how creativity and functionality can transform their space into a home. I find it rewarding to create spaces that enhance people’s lives.

How do you stay passionate about your work?

The dynamic nature of design really fuels my creativity and helps me keep things fresh. Blending new trends with timeless elements lets me curate a unique and captivating store. It’s exciting to think about how each piece tells a story, whether it’s sleek and modern or rich with history.

How are you involved in the community?

I prioritize building strong relationships with fellow business owners through networking, attending events, and collaborating on projects. This supportive community allows us to share resources, exchange ideas, and empower each other to thrive. I’m also an active member of my local Rotary Club, where I participate in community service projects and initiatives that make a positive impact. This involvement connects me with like-minded individuals and allows me to contribute to important causes, fostering camaraderie and purpose. What led you to this particular path in business?

BARLOW Judy

Judy Barlow is a dedicated Republican leader currently serving her second term as President of Eastern Shore Republican Women (ESRW). Judy is also Chair of the Legislation and Research Standing Committee for the National Federation of Republican Women. She holds numerous other positions within the Republican Party at the county and state level. Judy is a retired Senior Marketing Specialist for FedEx where she earned the prestigious “Five Star Award,” the company's highest recognition, for her leadership in key business development programs. She and her husband, Frank, have one daughter, Sarah.

What initiatives or projects are you currently working on at the national level that you’re excited about?

I became Chairman of the Legislation and Research Standing Committee for the National Federation of Republican Women in January 2024. We developed 3 initiatives important to women and families and attached national legislation that would be in support of those initiatives. Staying informed on issues that affect our nation that also affect us at home is important. The ability for our women to have a voice on a national and state level is important for us as a community.

What achievements are you most proud of during your tenure as president of the Eastern Shore Republican Women?

I have enjoyed focusing on the growth of our club into one of the top Republican women's clubs in the state in membership and influence. Eastern Shore Republican Women meetings are a must stop on the campaign trail because our members are conservative and informed on the issues.

WOMACK

In June 2022, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. By January 2023, I was in remission, but the journey to get there was tough. Throughout it all, I learned the importance of being your own advocate. For anyone newly diagnosed, I can’t stress enough how vital it is to research, ask questions, and explore every option. The more you know, the more control you can maintain over your own health.

Healing is not just physical; it’s mental too. Keeping a positive attitude made a huge difference in my recovery. It pushed me to keep fighting, even on the hardest days.

I found purpose through volunteering with the American Cancer Society in Baldwin County. Helping raise funds for wigs, transportation, and other needs for chemo patients made me feel like I could make a difference, just as others did for me.

My support system was my lifeline. My mother, a cancer survivor herself, walked every step with me. My husband pushed me to believe in my strength when I doubted it. And my faith, along with my doctors and friends, kept me grounded. Surrounded by such love and strength, there was no other choice but to heal and become the best version of myself again.

Michelle

MELTON NULL

On June 1, 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. While remission is still a couple of years away, the journey has already been long and full of steps. After surgery in September 2023, I began radiation in February 2024, finishing just two weeks before my wedding. I now take a daily pill, a monthly shot, and will continue treatments until Spring 2025, with no clear end for the pill and shots.

Cancer is not just about when you’re diagnosed, but the type you face. The advice I hold close is simple: take it step by step. Cancer treatment feels like a maze of decision trees—tests, scans,

and needles. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but I focus on what’s next, breathing deeply and moving forward.

My involvement in cancer organizations like Susan G. Komen, Sloan Kettering, and Hope Blooms has given me perspective. I’ve supported these causes for years, yet never thought I’d be walking this path myself. Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S. daily, and through Hope Blooms, I now help bring positivity to others battling this disease.

Strength ebbs and flows, but I’ve got an amazing support system of family, friends, and coworkers. The staff at Mitchell Cancer Institute are a constant source of comfort. It’s a long road, but with hope, I take it one step at a time.

HAYES Janet Investment Counselor

Janet joined Leavell Investment Management in 2004 and has worked in investment management since 1989. As an Investment Counselor, she advises high-net-worth individuals on strategies and objectives while serving on Leavell's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Previously, Janet held senior roles at Compass Bank (now PNC) and Bank of America. She has traveled all seven continents and five oceans, but treasures time with her husband Bill, son David, and extended family most.

What led you to this particular path in business?

With a business degree focused on finance from Chapel Hill, I sought a career involving close work with people. Early on, as a Bank of America auditor for trust and brokerage, clients encouraged me to switch to the client service side. I listened—and it’s been a more fulfilling journey ever since!

How do you stay passionate about your work?

Staying passionate as an investment counselor and business owner is easy with amazing clients and great employees at Leavell Investment Management. The ever-changing stock and bond markets, economic shifts, and world events, combined with helping clients meet their goals, keep me fully engaged every day.

What one word describes you?

Confident. I'm confident I'll figure things out, learn from my mistakes, and that I can rely on the unwavering support of my family and friends.

What is your hidden talent?

I have a strong ability to empathize, easily putting myself in others' shoes and truly understanding what they are going through.

Mc EVOY, DMD Morgan K.

Dr.McEvoy grew up in Grand Bay and attended school in Mobile. Her interest in dentistry began when spending time in her father’s practice during high school. She received a Biology degree from The University of Alabama and her dental degree from UAB. After spending a few years practicing in Birmingham and North Carolina, she and her husband returned home to raise their family. Dr. McEvoy enjoys spending time with her two young boys, running, cooking, and keeping bees.

What led you to this particular path in business?

My dad is a general dentist that retired last year. I developed an interest in the field when working at his office during high school. The main draw for me was seeing how my dad made his patients feel at ease and got to know them and their families.

What woman do you most try to emulate in your life and why?

My grandmother. I admire her strong work ethic and how she never backed down from a challenge. She even served as registration chairman in the southeast amateur boxing! She definitely lived life to the fullest and brought joy to everyone that knew her.

How do you stay passionate about your work?

Learning about new materials and products keeps dentistry interesting. Things are always changing, and I like to see if there is something new that could make treatment better or easier for our patients.

What is your favorite season and why? Summer. I love being outside and by the water.

COMMUNITY leaders

IFEMALE PIONEERS

n 2022, Baldwin County made history by sending its first three women to the Alabama House of Representatives, having never sent a female representative before. Donna Givens of Loxley, Jennifer Fidler of Silverhill and Frances Holk-Jones of Foley stepped into roles once dominated by men, bringing with them a wealth of experience, passion, and a commitment to their communities.

Photo by Cindy McCrory, Blue Room Photography

Donna Givens always felt a strong pull toward public service. During her 47-year career working at Baldwin EMC, she developed vital connections with local and state officials, gaining an intimate understanding of the needs of her community. Her tenure as the cooperative’s Government and Community Affairs Administrator prepared her well for the legislative arena. When Coach Harry Shiver announced his retirement from the House, Donna knew it was her moment. “I felt called to step up,” she said. “The people of my district needed someone with a servant’s heart.”

“I hit the ground running,” she recalled, leveraging her experience to advocate for her constituents. Among her proudest achievements is the Baby Safe Box legislation, which provides safe havens for parents unable to care for their newborns, allowing them to be adopted by loving families. “It’s already making a difference,” she beamed. Additionally, her work on human trafficking legislation sent a clear message: Alabama would not tolerate such heinous acts against children.

Being one of Baldwin County’s first female representatives is an honor she doesn’t take lightly. “It’s a long wait, but having Frances and Jennifer alongside me means we can lift each other up as we work for our districts,” she said, emphasizing their collaborative spirit.

Jennifer Fidler’s journey into politics stemmed from her experiences in city and county government. Recognizing the critical role state representatives play in addressing local issues, she felt compelled to act. “There was no good reason not to get involved,” she noted, determined to represent the needs of Baldwin County.

For six generations, her family has lived and worked in Baldwin County, contributing to its agricultural tradition, which her father and brother continue on their peanut and beef farm in Silverhill. Jennifer says, “I am honored to do my part as a steward of Baldwin County, advocating for its growth while preserving its cherished features.”

Her background as a public works director allowed her to oversee significant projects, and she credits her leadership roles with preparing her for the demands of her new position. Among her proudest moments is sponsoring the Joe Faust Living Shoreline Act, a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at environmental preservation.

For Jennifer, being one of the first women in the House is both a privilege and a responsibility. “I’ve always believed that gender should never define capability,” she affirmed.

HOLKJONES

For Frances Holk-Jones, politics was ingrained in her upbringing. Her father and grandfather served as Mayor of Foley which instilled in her a deep respect for public service. “I always admired people like Rep. Steve McMillan, who genuinely cared for their constituents,” she reflected. When the opportunity arose, she knew she had to seize it.

With decades of experience in the insurance industry, Frances found her skills translated well into the legislative sphere. “Customer service is crucial,” she stated, as she works to address everything from tax refunds to tourism grants. One of her major accomplishments includes passing a statewide bill that expanded the legal scope for licensed social workers, enabling them to diagnose and create treatment plans. As part of the Opioid Settlement Oversight Committee, she helped allocate $30 million to support addiction treatment programs, mental health organizations, and schools.

Being part of Baldwin County’s legislative history is a source of pride for Frances. “It’s about time we had women in the House,” she said with a smile. “Together, we can tackle any issue and forge victories for our community.”

As these three trailblazers continue their work in Montgomery, they embody the spirit of Baldwin County—grounded in tradition yet boldly embracing the future. Together, they are not only reshaping the political landscape but also inspiring a new generation of leaders, proving that women’s voices are vital in crafting the future of Alabama.

“I’m never too busy to help you or those you refer with any real estate need.”

Shelley Bottiaux and her daughter, Shaina Baggins, co-own Poppy Blowout Bar, combining over 30 years of experience in the beauty industry. Shaina, a licensed cosmetologist, and Shelley, an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay for over 22 years, have created a women-owned salon focused on pampering and relaxation. Inspired by Shelley’s dream of a Blowout Bar and Shaina’s passion for beauty, they’ve built a welcoming space for women of all walks of life to treat themselves, with the belief that you don’t need a special reason to pamper yourself—simply because you deserve it.

What personal values or principles guide the way you run your salon?

Shelley: Inspired by Mary Kay Ash’s quote, "Treat every person as if they have a sign saying, 'Make me feel important,'" we've built Poppy on that principle. Whether clients come for a blowout, a chat, or before a difficult moment, we’re here to pamper them, meet their needs, and build lasting friendships.

Shaina: Our faith is central to our business, and we strive to integrate it into everything we do. Our goal is to ensure that every employee and customer feels loved and respected from the moment they walk through our doors.

What do you believe sets your salon apart from others in the area?

Shelley: We focus on quick, convenient styling, often referred by full-service salons for shampoo, dry, and style appointments. With add-ons like deep conditioning and brow tinting, we're perfect for busy professionals or anyone seeking a salon look without the wait. Most clients are out in under an hour making us ideal for women with lots of hair, recovering from surgery, or simply wanting a relaxing scalp massage and professional style.

What book impacted you most?

Shaina: "Stop Self-Sabotage" by Judy Ho has been the most impactful book for me this past year. As someone who has struggled with mental health, it’s provided daily tools that have been invaluable throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

Emmy May Design & Construction Management LLC

601-624-7144 | mayemmy@gmail.com |

Since moving to Fairhope in spring 2022, Emmy has been actively growing her business and community connections. An architect by education and a licensed general contractor in Alabama and Mississippi, she specializes in residential renovation, restoration, and preservation. A Mississippi State University graduate, her passion for design started in Jackson, MS, where she grew up in a historic district, fostering a love for old homes. She is a member of BCHBA, Professional Women in Building and other building trade organizations. She is also active in the Women of the Fruit & Nut social group and the Fairhope Elks Lodge. An avid scuba diver, Emmy finds joy near the water, especially when diving.

What led you to this particular path in business?

I began as a home designer specializing in renovation, restoration, and preservation but struggled to find contractors for the intricate work. To ensure the quality I and my clients expected, I obtained my General Contractor’s License, allowing me to bring my designs to life with the precision they require.

What woman do you most try to emulate in your life and why?

My mother was a hardworking, intelligent, and generous single mom who ran her own business. She passed away at 46 after a 10-year battle with breast cancer, when I was 27 with a 4-month-old son. The values she instilled in us guide me daily, and I strive to honor her example.

How do you stay passionate about your work?

Designing and building beautiful spaces has always come naturally to me. Helping families create homes that truly work for them is my passion, and I’m grateful to do it every day.

What is an accomplishment in your industry of which you are proudest?

I feel so honored to be recognized at the 2024 Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards with a Best in Show Award for my first whole house renovation since moving to Alabama and obtaining my Alabama license.

GRABEN, ESQ. Kayla

ATTORNEY AT LAW

23710 US Hwy 98, Suite A | Fairhope 251-716-8318 | kayla@baysidelawllc.com

After graduating cum laude from the University of Alabama, Kayla Graben went on to receive a full Presidential Scholarship to attend Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. Her practice focuses on estate planning and elder law. Kayla has worked in a variety of areas including financial securities regulation, business litigation, personal injury and of course estate planning and probate law. She lives in Fairhope with her husband, Clint, their two boys, Price and Thatcher, and their rescue dog, Winnie.

How do you stay passionate about your work?

The people I serve in my line of profession keep me passionate. The greatest compliment I ever received was from another attorney who I admire very much. She told me, "I didn't think I would ever meet someone who cares more about her clients than me, but you do."

How are you involved in the community?

With a full-time job and two young boys, I focus my community involvement on their schools. We participate in the walking school bus to Fairhope West Elementary, where my oldest just started kindergarten. At St. James Episcopal, I volunteer as a mystery reader and donate estate planning packages for fundraisers.

What are the most common misconceptions people have about estate planning?

The most common misconception is thinking you "don't have anything" and don’t need an estate plan. In reality, a complete estate plan is more than just a Last Will and Testament. It covers property, minor children, and essential documents like Powers of Attorney and a Living Will for incapacity planning.

What is your favorite season and why?

I absolutely love fall. My kids are HUGE fans of Halloween so we start decorating in August. I just love pumpkins and the change in weather and Thanksgiving and football -- everything that says, "Fall is here!"

JONES Natalie

ATTORNEY AT LAW

How do you stay passionate about your work?

I spend most of my days dealing with children, whether my own or through my family law practice. Between divorces, custody battles, and my Guardian ad Litem work, it’s hard to lose motivation or passion for the work when children often hang in the balance.

As a Guardian ad Litem, what unique perspectives do you bring to your role that you believe help advocate for children?

I’m a single mom of two young boys, Simon (6) and Parks (3). All children need an advocate, in and out of the courtroom, and it’s a role I gravitate to and thrive in.

How important is it for you to build a network of female professionals in law, and how has that network supported your journey?

Absolutely crucial! From encouraging and mentoring me to referring clients directly to me, I owe each a debt of gratitude.

Oh no! It can’t be. Breast cancer. I have no family history of it, and I’ve always kept up with my mammograms. But after my April 2024 screening, I got the dreaded callback for more tests, leading to a breast cancer diagnosis. Surgery, radiation, and ongoing cancer medication followed.

Before retiring, I worked in hospital community outreach, celebrating October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month with survivor stories and educational programs. I admired those survivors, never imagining I’d have my own story to share.

At my age, I was ready to stop mammograms, but I decided on one last screening. Thankfully, it caught the

cancer early. I’m doing well now, thanks to incredible support from my family, friends, church, and the dedicated healthcare professionals at Thomas Hospital, the Breast Center, and the Cancer Center. Their care has been inspiring, and I’m confident in reaching remission.

Friends who’ve survived breast cancer have shared their journeys, helping me stay positive, keep faith, and smile through it all. It works!

No matter your age, please schedule your mammogram. It could save your life and give you the chance to ring that bell in victory.

GRIFFIN Bonnie

Brandice

In January 2022, my world changed with a breast cancer diagnosis. Determined to fight, I began 16 rounds of chemotherapy in March, followed by a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, and 33 rounds of radiation, finishing in November 2022.

My advice: educate yourself about your diagnosis and treatment, trust your medical team, and get a second opinion if needed. Lean on other survivors—they’re heroes and a vital source of support.

Throughout my journey, I was overwhelmed by the love and generosity from friends, family, and my community. We were

surrounded by prayer, on countless prayer lists from churches and groups. It was incredible to feel so loved during such a scary time.

Every cancer journey is unique. My goal was to stay positive and beat this disease, knowing I’d come out stronger. My positive outlook helped reassure those around me, especially my young children. I wanted them to see my strength and know I’d be okay.

In our house, we say, “Some things in life stink.” This stinks, but we’ll get through it and celebrate on the other side. I’m forever grateful to be on this side, and I’ll celebrate every minute of it!

WHITEHEAD Misty

Owner Chicken Salad Chick

Daphne | Fairhope | Gulf Shores | Mobile | Saraland

When Misty Whitehead started her first Chicken Salad Chick franchise in 2011, she wanted to have more time with her family than her job in medical device sales allowed—and despite her lack of experience in the restaurant industry, her determination and hard work brought her a great deal of success. It’s also helped her attain the ultimate goal: a tighter family unit, more quality family time and greater means with which to give back to the community she loves. She and her husband, Peter, now own and operate 7 locations of CSC in Baldwin and Mobile Counties. They are humbled by the community's support, its love for their food, and the appreciation for how much they give back.

What impact do you think your restaurants have on the communities in which they are located?

Our restaurants have made a huge impact emotionally and financially on our local customers. We consistently donate to local cancer patients, nurses, firefighters, churches, police, public and private schools, the fight against suicide, CURE Cancer and the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile.

How are you involved in the community?

I serve on the executive board for RMHC of Mobile and previously served as the executive board president. Peter, and I adopted one of the pediatric ER rooms at USA Children's and Women's Hospital.

I am also a member of the Vestry at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I can name a song in one note!!!!! I sing everything and know the words to more songs than you could imagine. Not sure how I could use that to my advantage??

Gatewood Retail Real Estate

Tracy is the owner of Gatewood Retail Real Estate and has worked in real estate brokerage and shopping center management for 18 years. She specializes in site selection for tenants and developers. She also identifies commercial acquisitions for visionary investors and difference-making end users. Tracy was awarded an ICSC MAXI Award and ICSC Maxi Merit for excellence in retail marketing.

What led you to this path in business?

I worked in corporate marketing and marketing consulting in Georgia and Alabama and believe marketing is simply the science of selling. My experience in retail marketing combined with growing up around a retail business - my dad, Alex, founded The Locker Room in Tuscaloosa in 1964 — became a natural backdrop for commercial real estate. For me, it is exciting to work with business owners.

How do you approach challenges?

I rely on my faith and understanding of God’s unwavering love. Joshua 1:9 is my anchor, reminding me to be strong and courageous, for God is with me wherever I go.

How are you involved in the community?

I convene the Baldwin Commercial Exchange; a group of high producing brokers that meet monthly to collaborate on client needs, listings, and closed transactions. I serve on the Baldwin County Republican Executive Committee, and I am a member of both Republican Women’s groups. Since 2009, I have been a member of the Alabama Center for Real Estate Leadership Council and serve on an annual regional prayer breakfast committee. Currently, I am advocating for the partial funding of Alabama Pregnancy Resource Centers through tax credits. Whenever possible, my goal is always to add value.

What is your favorite season and why?

The fall. Cooler temps, better clothing options (I love boots!) and a great selection of events and activities.

Guests of the Women’s Forum hosted by Community Foundation of South Alabama gathered for a morning of networking, shopping, and engaging speakers at the Sanger Theatre in Mobile. Following a welcome by the host organization’s own Rebecca Byrne, and a panel discussion, renowned motivational speaker Liz Huntley gave the keynote address. The event concluded with door prizes, closing remarks, and continued networking.

LOPER

In October 2014, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Having dealt with Fibro-Cystic disease since my 20s, I’d had numerous mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies. However, I delayed my annual mammogram due to a busy move from Atlanta to Coastal Alabama. When I finally went, the results were concerning. I underwent a double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, and five months of chemotherapy. Thankfully, I’ve been cancer-free for ten years and continue to attend annual oncologist appointments.

My advice to newly diagnosed women is to stay strong, ask questions, research your options, and take control of your health. You decide what treatment is best for you. I’m always here to support and encourage others facing this journey—you can beat this disease.

Though I never joined a formal support group, my family, friends, co-workers, and faith community provided incredible support. My oncologist, Dr. Reece Jones at

GOODMAN Vickie Melanie

Southern Cancer Center in Foley, has been compassionate and caring. Prayer carried me through, knowing God has a reason for keeping me here.

Since my diagnosis, I’ve celebrated my daughter’s graduation with a Master’s Degree in Psychology, her wedding, and the birth of my grandson. I am so grateful to still be here and share these moments!

On January 4th, my life changed when I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductile Carcinoma, Grade 3, Triple Negative. After finding a painful spot before my routine mammogram, I advocated for further testing, leading to a biopsy that caught the aggressive cancer early at Stage 1.

Within weeks, I began chemotherapy, facing challenges, including liver complications. My tumor shrank, and in June, I had a bilateral mastectomy, which confirmed the cancer hadn’t spread. My medical team—Heather Long, Dr. Leslie Evans, Dr. Caroline McGugin, Dr. Jose Galeas, and Dr. Ryan Rebowe—were incredible, treating me like family throughout my treatment.

Breaking the news to my boys was tough, but we found release at Shattered, bonding over breaking things. When my hair began to fall out, I embraced it, gathering my girlfriends for wine and haircuts. Though I never wanted to join this “club,” I’m in it with some of the fiercest women I know.

Now cancer-free, I reflect on the journey and the lessons learned. My advice: advocate for yourself, lean on your village, and give yourself grace. Cancer pushes you to your limits, but faith and community carry you through. God’s guidance and the unwavering support of my family, friends, church, and work families kept me strong. We can do hard things, and “God winks” are there to guide us forward.

BRYANStephanie

Tribal Chair & CEO

Stephanie is the first woman to ever be elected for her role.

As Tribal Chair and CEO of the Poarch Creek Indians, she leads Alabama's only Federally recognized Tribe. Being a true economic engine for Alabama's economy, the Tribe has demonstrated significant impacts by way of economic investments, job creation, and charitable giving across the entire state. For her, it is important that the Tribe maintains its values based on the Christian principles of caring for each other and their neighbors. She is also a wife, mother and grandmother who loves cooking for her family and spending time on the water.

What woman do you most try to emulate in your life and why?

My mother, without a doubt. Despite having little, we had abundant love and a strong family bond. She was resilient, always making us laugh and feel safe, even in tough times. She and my aunts were a protective force, setting an example that has shaped my life profoundly.

How do you ensure your voice is heard in rooms where women may be underrepresented?

First, you have to get in the room. When I ran for Chair, some said a woman couldn’t do it. My mom encouraged me, and after winning, I pushed to join key conversations. I mentor women to set ambitious goals and believe diverse perspectives lead to great solutions.

What would you say is your greatest achievement as a leader so far?

Improving quality of life on our reservation by building a Health Center, Senior Center, and Cultural Center with a Boys' and Girls' Club for 500 children from our Tribe. Through careful stewardship and diversifying beyond gaming, we now own 40+ companies and employ 9,000 people in Alabama and around the United States. Generations before us lived in real poverty, so to be able to provide good jobs in rural areas of Alabama and in other states and even the Caribbean is a great blessing and source of pride.

Andolyn Fitzgerald Legacy of Service

Born in New Orleans and raised in Mobile, Andolyn Fitzgerald has called Baldwin County home since 2004. She is a dedicated community advocate and continues her work as a doula, although with her seven children spread across the country, she has scaled back to attending just three or four births per year. "It is such an honor and delight to participate in a family’s birth," she says, reflecting on her two decades of experience teaching Bradley Method Husband-Coached Childbirth classes. Her passion for childbirth education and doula work stemmed from her own love of pregnancy and raising children.

Fitzgerald's deep commitment to her community is evident through her involvement in numerous local organizations. She is a longtime member of Impact 100 Baldwin County, which awards grants to local nonprofits. She has also served on the board of The Lighthouse, a nonprofit agency providing domestic violence and sexual assault services across several Alabama counties. She served as the organization’s president for two years. Her passion for supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault has profoundly shaped her outlook on community service.

In addition to her advocacy work, Fitzgerald is heavily involved with the Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre (ESRT) Auxiliary. Over the past 15 years, she and her family have been active in the local theatre scene, and Fitzgerald now serves as the Auxiliary’s president. She is particularly

proud of their scholarship program, which allows students to explore their love of theatre.

Fitzgerald's enthusiasm for service also extends to the National Charity League of the Eastern Shore, where she participates alongside her daughters. "Some of our favorite experiences have been working with the Exceptional Foundation, Prodisee Pantry, and The Haven," she shares. She has held various leadership roles within the organization since 2016, reflecting her dedication to helping others and setting an example for her children. Andolyn also immensely enjoys working with DreamCatcher Equine Therapy Farm, Drug Education Council, and Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation.

Andolyn credits much of her strength and success to her husband John, her "biggest cheerleader." “John is an amazing husband and father. He is so compassionate, patient, and encouraging,” she shares with gratitude. He serves as the president of Saunders Yachtworks, our family business which was founded in 1959. We feel extremely fortunate to be a part of a family legacy and to walk in the footsteps of my grandfather, Andrew Saunders, Sr., and my father, Andrew Saunders Jr. We are very proud of Yachtworks and all of our employees. The pillars of Saunders Yachtworks are tradition, performance, and integrity. We truly endeavor to live by those ideals every day!” Both Andolyn and John are involved with Hope Community. He serves on the board as Treasurer, and she is the chairperson of the Communications Committee. Hope Community’s mission is nurturing unity and relationships through food, healing, and education.

A key influence in Andolyn’s dedication to service was the example set by her parents, Andrew and Carolyn Saunders, who were actively involved in civic and

This home has been transformed into an extravagant retreat by interior designer Savannah Starring, owner of The House—a full-service interior design firm and home decor store in downtown Fairhope. The owners entrusted Savannah with the entire project, and she blended old-world charm with modern luxuries.

Every aspect of the renovation has been thoughtfully designed to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal: understated barrel ceilings, stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, updated plumbing, electrical, and a fortified roof. Natural stone, salvaged beams, antiques, and modern luxuries such as surround sound, a heated pool, hidden pantries, and color-drenched walls add depth and intrigue. Hidden doors, custom drapery, and designer lighting elevate the space, while custom cabinetry from Artisan Woodworks and custom plumbing fixtures add the final touch. The result is a beautifully functional home that effortlessly blends nostalgia and modern elegance.

Upon entering through the front screened porch, you’ll find a foyer with original hardwood floors preserved by the renovation team and refinished in a diamond stencil pattern. Natural light floods the dining room, leading into the inviting living room and kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a 36” Zline dual fuel range, panel refrigerator, and dishwasher. Additional highlights include inset custom cabinets, an appliance garage, a pot filler, and gorgeous Calacatta Paonazzo marble countertops and backsplash. The butler’s pantry and hidden walk-in pantry offer ample storage and convenience for culinary and entertaining needs, with banker wire and vented banker wire fronts.

The primary bedroom exudes richness in color and style, leading to a luxurious primary bathroom with mist black leathered granite vanities and a walk-in shower featuring exquisite Calacatta Monet marble. The beautiful stone surfaces throughout the home were fabricated by Stone Gallery. The shower alone required two slabs of marble and required seven men for installation. As an all-inclusive fabrication facility specializing in marble, quartz, and natural stones, The Stone Gallery prioritizes customer experience through one-on-one interactions throughout the countertop process. Quality and customer satisfaction are at the heart of their operations.

From planning the renovation and securing Farmstead Built as the contractor to selecting hard finishes, Savannah’s layered approach to design brought the home to life. Her philosophy is simple: architecture sets the foundation, but details like lighting, cabinetry, paint colors, and hardware create character. She marries the homeowner’s personality with the house’s style, curating spaces that feel timeless, functional, and sophisticated.

The goal of Farmstead Built is to foster strong relationships that lead to satisfied clients and beautiful homes. Owner of Farmstead Built, Chad Lippincott, is a third-generation builder who brings invaluable experience to the table, and all Farmstead Built new construction homes are constructed to Gold Fortified standards.

Greer Gardens, a family-owned landscaping company in Fairhope, transformed the home’s landscape. They specialize in landscape maintenance, installation, and design for both residential and commercial properties, focusing on creating custom southern gardens and unique tropical retreats. Owner, Austin Greer, shared how thoughtful details such as the mix of perennials and annuals around the entrance were planned to welcome guests.

This remarkable home is offered for sale by Brooke Butler at Mobile Bay Realty. Brooke is a highly experienced real estate professional and a fourthgeneration resident of Fairhope, holding numerous professional designations, including Baldwin County Certified Specialist (BCCS), Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), and Seller Representative Specialist (SRS).

MOM SUPER Bailey Stitt

Bailey Stitt has deep roots in this community that she loves so much. She was born in Fairhope and moved to Orange Beach in 2000, and apart from her college years, she has spent her entire life in Baldwin County. Watching the area grow and flourish has been a joy for Bailey, and now, she is thrilled to share that experience with her son, Brooks. Alongside her husband, Adam, Bailey feels blessed to raise their son in the same place where they both grew up.

Bailey is a Certified Financial Planner and Wealth Management Advisor with Harris, O’Neill, Stitt Associates at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. She’s been married to Adam for nearly seven years, and together they have a 4-month-old son, Brooks, and a golden doodle named Sadie. Becoming a mother has been the most fulfilling experience for Bailey, and she hopes Brooks will always remember the unconditional love and joy he’s brought into her life.

“My biggest hope is that Brooks remembers how much I love him and the joy he’s given me. Watching him experience life through fresh eyes is indescribable,” Bailey says.

Bailey’s passion for wealth management has deep family ties. Her father worked at Merrill Lynch for 39 years, and his work anniversary is also her birthday. "Wealth management offers the perfect blend of building meaningful relationships while helping people achieve financial success," she says. She loves guiding families through significant life decisions and cherishes the trust she builds with her clients.

Being a new working mom has introduced Bailey to the delicate art of balance. “It’s a constant juggling act, but it’s incredibly fulfilling. I want to set an example for Brooks that it’s possible to work hard while prioritizing family,” Bailey explains. She believes that being a working mom will enrich Brooks’s life by teaching him the value of independence, resilience, and the importance of pursuing his passions.

Bailey is particularly proud of her ability to adapt and persevere when life throws challenges her way. “I’ve learned the importance of tenacity, and I hope to teach Brooks that setbacks are okay, as long as you keep going,” she says.

In addition to her professional work, Bailey is passionate about community involvement. She serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Impact 100 Baldwin County, a women’s organization dedicated to transforming lives through high-impact grants. She finds immense joy in making a difference alongside other strong, driven women.

Bailey Stitt is truly a supermom—dedicated to her family, career, and community—juggling it all with grace and resilience.

Michelle + Josh

PHOTOS BY STEPHEN SAVAGE

After dating for two years, Michelle Melton and Josh Null tied the knot at The Venue at Whiskey Ridge in Silverhill, surrounded by family, friends, and the charm of Baldwin County.

Josh, the owner of Gulf Coast Financial Advisors, and Michelle, a City Planner for the City of Fairhope, also co-host the weekly radio show "Coasting in Retirement with Josh Null" on FM Talk 106.5. The couple first met at a packed trivia night at Tongue & Groove Drinkery in downtown Fairhope. As luck would have it, the only open seat was next to Michelle, and it turned out to be the night before her birthday—something she now calls the best birthday gift ever.

Josh’s proposal was filled with personal and sentimental touches. He proposed at an overlook near Wappapello Lake in Southeast Missouri, a place close to his heart, as it was where his grandparents first met. With stunning views of the Mingo Wildlife Refuge and the Ozark foothills, Josh chose the perfect spot, on his parents' wedding anniversary, no less. Michelle recalls this “good juju” about the day and place fondly, remarking that the setting felt just right.

For the wedding, Michelle wore a stunning white mermaid-style gown with a cathedral train. The couple embraced a “Spring Fusion” color theme, where none of the groomsmen or bridesmaids matched perfectly but all donned light, spring palettes. Josh sported a light blue suit with a floral vest, and their venue was decorated with vibrant local flowers, enhancing the natural beauty of the day.

The wedding party consisted of 6 groomsmen and 6 bridesmaids, with Josh’s nephew, Evan, serving as ringbearer. Two flower girls and Michelle’s 16-year-old Jack Russell, Lodi, as the “flower dog,” added a touch of fun to the ceremony.

A notable aspect of their wedding was the couple’s decision to handle everything themselves without a wedding coordinator. Everything went smoothly, a testament to the help of their amazing friends, all of whom contributed to making the day flawless. Michelle added, "We had a second line, too! The guests loved it and received printed wedding schwag white handkerchiefs to participate in the second line. The bridesmaids, flower girl, and I had personalized traditional decorated parasols to participate."

The reception featured a three-tiered cake from Something Sweet Bake Shop, with layers of strawberry, chocolate, and traditional white wedding cake, adorned with fresh flowers and macaroons. It was such a hit that there wasn’t a single slice left at the end of the night! Guests also enjoyed a delicious meal catered by WaterOak Catering, which included a shrimp and grits bar, beef tenderloin carving station, garlic roasted potatoes, and a beloved bread pudding.

Michelle and Josh will honeymoon in Costa Rica in November, but for now, they reside in Fairhope, ready to embark on their next adventure together.

MELANIE GREIN

Melanie Grein is an abstract acrylic painter who moved to Fairhope full time 3 years ago to be with her family. For her show in September, she put her abstracts on hold. She wanted to capture the magic of Fairhope to show the community the monumental impact their kindness, generosity, love, and support has had on her.

Melanie lost almost everything she owned in a fire, but with her friends beside her, the gift of several ball gowns, and bags of ball gown material from alterations incorporating our very own Fairhope ball gowns, this series began. "This community helped me get back on my feet. I love this town..." The series is titled Fairhope Fabulous.

Her works are in private and corporate collections across the United States, including The Ritz Carlton and The Four Seasons. She is represented by Lyons Share Gallery in Fairhope, AL and Walker Fine Art in Denver, CO.

Special thanks to Amy Phillippi for the ballgowns, and Judy's Alterations for the ball gown material!

The ladies of Junior Auxiliary of The Eastern Shore invited prospective members to join them at The Hope Farm for an opportunity to mix and mingle while learning about the organization’s mission to help local children and families in need while enjoying great food and drinks.
