TreyBrownfield SERVANT LEADER

Trey Brownfield, a devoted husband and father of two, has dedicated his life to serving others, with a deep commitment to his community that began at a young age. From his early involvement in various ministries at his church to his impactful volunteer work at Ohana Pier, Trey has always been driven by a passion for helping those in need. At Ohana Pier, he provided support to teens facing challenges like self-harm, bullying, and family issues, creating a safe space for them to find guidance and hope. Even after his time at Ohana Pier ended, Trey continued his ministry, often found at the local tennis courts, reaching out to the youth in his community.

As Trey’s love for his community grew, so did his involvement. He became a dedicated Rotarian, and in his first year, was elected chair of Public Relations. His passion for community service led him to join the Heritage Festival board, where he served as the public relations and sponsorship chair. In 2020, Trey’s leadership skills were recognized when he became the chairman of the Slidell Heritage Festival, a role he continues to fulfill with great dedication.

Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trey, along with a group of like-minded men, founded the non-profit organization, Men Of Steel. This organization, committed to making a tangible difference in the community, selects a charity each quarter to receive a $10,000 donation. This initiative reflects Trey’s unwavering commitment to supporting local causes and improving the lives of others.

A graduate of Leadership Northshore, Trey was instrumental in founding Project Lead the Way, a mentorship program at Slidell High School. His leadership qualities were quickly recognized, and upon graduation, he was elected by his peers to represent them on the Leadership Northshore Alumni Association, where he has served as Vice President and now President.

Trey’s passion for community beautification was evident during his tenure as the Director of Keep Slidell Beautiful (KSB), where he was honored as Director of the Year by the state. His initiatives, such as bringing Christmas lights back to Front Street, have left a lasting impact on the community. Though he resigned from his position at KSB to run for City Councilman for District F, Trey continues to serve on various boards, including Keep Slidell Beautiful and the Olde Towne Main Street Association.

In addition to his public service, Trey is actively involved in numerous local organizations. He currently sits on the Keesler Federal Credit Union Community Impact Board and has recently joined the East St Tammany Business Alliance as a board member. His volunteer efforts extend to supporting events for Hospice House, Friends of Slidell Police Association, Community Christian Concern, and many other local charities. Trey’s commitment to his community is further exemplified through his regular speeches to organizations such as Junior Auxiliary and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as his monetary donations to support their causes.

Trey Brownfield’s dedication, leadership, and passion for his community have earned him numerous accolades, including being named an Extraordinary Neighbor by Slidell Magazine, receiving the Pearl Williams Superior Leadership Award, and being recognized as the Civic Leader of the Year for St. Tammany Parish. His tireless efforts continue to inspire and uplift those around him, making Slidell a better place for all.

MOM Super MELISSA GUY

In the heart of every family lies a supermom, and for Melissa Guy, this role is both a joy and a journey of growth. As a dedicated Sales Associate at The NEXT by Jenny Carr, Melissa’s days are a blend of fashion, family, and finding balance in the beautiful chaos of life.

Melissa, married to her husband Ben for over 14 years, is the proud mother of two wonderful children, Dylan and Lacey. Their golden doodle, Griffin, rounds out their lively household. For most of her children’s lives, Melissa embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom, immersing herself in their world. She volunteered extensively at their school, serving as room mom, helping with the annual golf tournament, chairing the Mother’s Mass, and even coaching her son’s basketball team. These moments were not just about being there but about building memories and instilling values.

However, life took a turn when Melissa decided to step back into the workforce. “The guys are still adjusting to me not being home as much,” she says with a smile, “but I have something that I love doing now.” This transition hasn’t been without its challenges—dinners are a little later, and the house might not be as tidy—but for Melissa, finding something she is passionate about has made all the difference. “Mom is happy,” she says, and that happiness radiates through every aspect of her life.

Being a working mom, Melissa believes, has enriched her children’s lives in unexpected ways. It has encouraged them to become more self-sufficient, learning to manage their own tasks without relying solely on her. Melissa recalls her sister’s words, “Working makes me a better mom,” and now, she truly understands. “I have something for me,” she reflects, recognizing that her work not only fulfills her but also sets a positive example for her children.

At 43, Melissa is still learning—both in life and in her new role. “I’ve never worked in a boutique before, and I love learning how to style and merchandise,” she shares. But perhaps the most significant lesson she’s learned is the importance of asking for help. With her kids attending different schools and participating in various extracurricular activities, life can get a bit hectic. Fortunately, Ben has stepped up, becoming an even more hands-on dad, which has deepened their partnership.

When asked what she is most proud of, Melissa doesn’t hesitate: her family. “We have a strong and loving base,” she says, knowing that this foundation helps her children understand what a healthy relationship looks like. Melissa’s parents instilled in her a strong work ethic, a value she’s passing on to Dylan and Lacey. Growing up, she and her siblings always had jobs, from babysitting to working in restaurants. This sense of responsibility is something she hopes her children will carry with them.

Melissa hopes her children will look back on their childhood and remember the fun and love that filled their home—dance parties, game nights, and especially Sunday Suppers. Despite everyone’s busy schedules, Sunday remains a cherished time for the family to reconnect.

As she tucks her children into bed each night, they have a special ritual: prayers and a song, a tradition passed down from her father. It’s a simple but profound reminder of the love that binds them together. And from her children, Melissa has learned that it’s okay for things not to go perfectly. “Things might have to be adjusted, but hey…it got done,” she says with a laugh.

In Melissa Guy, we see a woman who embraces every facet of motherhood with grace and determination. She is a supermom, not because she does it all, but because she does it all with love.

So much! We recently welcomed two spectacular new injectors, Dr. Samantha Avera, DNP in Mandeville and Ashley Maxwell, FNP in New Orleans. We had big shoes to fill when Jenna and her family recently moved to Florida to further pursue her advanced education and support her husband’s medical career. We all share a never-ending itch for growth! In her place, Dr. Sam and Ashley have done a beautiful job of carrying out the values we all share. We’ve loved the feedback from our communities as they’ve embraced and entrusted these fantastic women.

BRINGING LIGHT DARKEST TIMES IN THE

In the face of life’s toughest challenges, Buna’s Hope stands as a beacon of support and joy for families enduring medical crises or tragedy. Founded with a mission to provide hope, Buna’s Hope extends a compassionate hand to those in need through three distinct programs that embody their commitment to making a difference.

Buna Boxes are at the heart of the charity’s outreach, delivering thoughtfully curated gift boxes filled with games, activities, and small treasures to families in the midst of medical adversity. These boxes, often sent to families facing unimaginable circumstances, serve as a reminder that they are not alone, bringing moments of happiness during difficult times.

IMPACT & GIVE BACK

The charity also offers customized gifts tailored to the unique needs of families facing medical tragedies. These gifts range from simple gestures to life-changing contributions, such as providing a beach vacation to a family coping with a cancer diagnosis or purchasing a specialized handicap van for a father of five disabled children who had recently lost his wife. Another example includes covering the cost of a year-long cleaning service for a man who had recently become a widower. These acts of kindness are more than just gifts; they are lifelines of hope that help families navigate the most challenging periods of their lives.

Additionally, Buna Room Makeovers offer a fresh start by rejuvenating a space in the home of someone who has experienced a medical crisis. For instance, when a woman’s husband was diagnosed with cancer, Buna’s Hope renovated her prayer room, transforming it into a sanctuary of peace and reflection. These makeovers not only enhance the physical space but also uplift the spirits of those who use them.

Buna’s Hope was founded by Elise Angelette, who bravely battled breast cancer for six years before passing away in 2020, leaving behind her husband and five children. Elise’s journey and unwavering spirit inspired the creation of Buna’s Hope, ensuring that her legacy continues to touch the lives of others facing similar hardships.

However, the charity faces significant challenges, particularly in raising the consistent funds needed to continue impacting lives in the community. The organization relies heavily on the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers. Those looking to contribute can make a donation through their website, helping to sustain and expand the reach of Buna’s Hope.

Community involvement has been integral to the charity’s success, with local businesses like Abita Roasting Pub and sponsors such as Baldwin Motors and Servio Capital providing crucial support. Their contributions have allowed Buna’s Hope to assist over 50 families so far, with a goal to impact over 100 families this year.

Buna’s Hope also hosts annual events like the “Gettin Wiggy Wit It” fundraiser every August, with more exciting initiatives planned for the spring. The long-term vision of Buna’s Hope is ambitious yet rooted in a deep desire to make a difference—to impact over 1,000 families each year. Through continued community support, this vision is well within reach.

Ms. Emily Cole

ABITA SPRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL

5TH GRADE TEACHER

Who, specifically, in your life influenced your decision to become a teacher?

My biggest inspiration to become a teacher was my high school chemistry teacher, Kristin Ripley. Not only was she a brilliant educator, but she was a positive light to all of her students.

What is your biggest challenge as a teacher?

My biggest challenge as an educator is to keep a healthy balance between school and everyday life. As a first year teacher, I am always striving to be the very best for my students and my school...even on the weekends.

What do you feel is the biggest reward?

As a teacher, I feel that the biggest reward is watching students grow and accomplish their goals! There is no greater feeling than capturing students in an “ah-ha!” moment of success. It is truly something to celebrate for each and every one of them.

How do you make learning fun for your students?

For most 5th graders, Social Studies and English can be perceived as boring. However, I challenge my students to think otherwise. I encourage them to find the beauty in learning through real world examples and finding connections to characters that they can relate to. The occasional 5 minute dance party is pretty fun as well!

If you could leave your students with one message, what would it be?

In my classroom, you are valued, accepted, and loved! I believe that you can do hard things and accomplish your goals!

Jordan Cassagne

What does the company motto, “It’s About Time,” mean to you?

When I came up with the tagline “It's About Time,” it had multiple meanings. First, it’s about getting your workout in without spending hours a day at a gym. We offer a 45-minute, full-body strength training workout that you only have to do a few times a week. That’s huge for people looking to maximize their schedules, especially when time is an issue. It also means “it’s about time” you do something you’ve been telling yourself you need to do. Most of us have been there, telling ourselves, “I need to start working out and get in shape,” but just saying it won’t get results if you don’t take the steps to get there.

As intense as the Lagree Method is, it’s also easier on your joints than most high-impact workouts. In most cases, it even helps strengthen the muscles and ligaments around them. Time is all we have, and it’s important to do something to keep yourself strong, healthy, and self-dependent.

My wife vetoed my original suggested tagline, “It’s Not For Everyone,” in regards to the intensity of the method. Like any fitness routine that involves shaping your body, it takes discipline with the right mindset to get results. Most importantly, it takes time. To be successful, you must put the time in. Every class you take is progress and one step closer to your goal. Make it part of your weekly routine and don’t veer off course —you won’t be disappointed.

A SOUTHERN SANCTUARY

Nestled in the heart of Old Mandeville, this stunning Acadian/Cottage-style home, built by Johnson Builders in 2010, perfectly blends timeless charm with modern amenities. Spanning 3,449 square feet of living space (3,945 square feet under beam) on a generous .55-acre lot, the residence is a testament to thoughtful design and a deep appreciation for Southern living.

Photos by Eugenia Lubrano-Gangi of NOLA RE Marketing

As you step inside, you’re greeted by an inviting interior that combines traditional design elements with a touch of Louisiana flair. The home boasts 13 rooms across two levels, including four spacious bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. The open floor plan is designed to foster togetherness, with two living areas that serve as the heart of the home—perfect for family time and game days.

The area that truly captures the essence of this home is the open kitchen and living area. It’s easy to see why family and friends are naturally drawn to the large walnut island, which comfortably seats eight. This kitchen is a chef’s dream, featuring highend Thermador appliances, a Kohler farmhouse sink and faucet, and a natural stone backsplash that adds a touch of rustic elegance. The walnut island is not just a functional centerpiece; it’s a gathering spot where memories are made over shared meals and conversations.

The master suite is a sanctuary of comfort and luxury. The bathroom is a highlight, with Kohler pedestal sinks, a Kohler overflow tub adorned with Brizo chrome faucets, and a walk-in shower equipped with Brizo faucets, body spray, and shower head. The space is further enhanced by a beautiful wooden beaded chandelier, which casts a warm glow over the white Carrara tile floor and shower, creating a spa-like atmosphere.

for more information: Jen@SocialReallyWorks.com or Angelle@SocialReallyWorks.com

Throughout the home, custom details abound. A custom-built cypress wet bar and cypress shelves in the built-ins add a touch of rustic charm, while a walnut pantry door and built-in Murphy bed offer both beauty and functionality. The home’s design is a reflection of the family’s love for Louisiana, with carefully curated pieces of local art and décor from local businesses, all aimed at creating calming and comfortable spaces.

The exterior of the home is just as impressive, with traditional Hardie Plank siding and expansive 10ft x 50ft porches that are perfect for entertaining guests. These porches offer breathtaking views of the beautiful tree-lined streets of Old Mandeville, a constant reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds this home.

The homeowners chose this location with intention, knowing the value of raising a family in such a vibrant and communityoriented area. The wife works as a teacher in a local private preschool, where she finds joy in witnessing the curiosity and development of young minds. Her love for creating beautiful

spaces is evident throughout the home, with each room thoughtfully designed to evoke a sense of peace and harmony. She also enjoys helping friends with their spaces, always incorporating her passion for flowers to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Married for 30 years, the couple, Jason and his wife, have built a life in Mandeville, where they raised their three sons. Today, their family has grown to include two daughters-in-law and an adorable grandson, all of whom continue to create memories in this beautiful home that perfectly reflects their love for family, tradition, and the charm of Southern living.

In the enchanting city of New Orleans, where love stories are woven into the vibrant fabric of the streets, Sammi Ladeira and Cameron Alston began a journey that would culminate in a wedding as unique and unforgettable as their love.

Sammi

&Cameron

Sammi and Cameron’s love story began in the heart of New Orleans, a city known for its soul and spontaneity. After dating for two years—one year long distance and one year together—they knew they had found something truly special. Their bond was sealed with an unforgettable proposal that Sammi could never have anticipated. With the help of her mom and close friends, Cameron orchestrated a beautiful surprise in their backyard, complete with lanterns, candles, and the words “Will you marry me?” spelled out in lights. As if that wasn’t enough, he topped off the evening with a cake from Sammi’s favorite bakery and a stunning ring he designed himself. “I did not think he would get all of that past me,” Sammi recalls with a smile, still in awe of how Cameron pulled off such a perfect surprise.

The couple’s wedding took place on September 30, 2023, in a celebration that spanned an entire weekend. The festivities kicked off with a welcoming party, followed by the ceremony at the iconic St. Louis Cathedral. As they exchanged vows in this historic and breathtaking setting, the love between Sammi and Cameron was palpable, witnessed by friends and family who had traveled from all over the country to be there. After the ceremony, the newlyweds led their guests in a lively second line to the reception at The Jaxson on the River, a quintessential New Orleans tradition that left their out-of-town guests delighted and amazed.

Sammi’s wedding attire was a vision of timeless glamour. She wore an off-shoulder mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline, adorned with buttons running down the back. The Mikado fabric in a soft ivory hue was both elegant and flattering, and Sammi paired the dress with red shoes, red lipstick, and a mix of pearls and diamonds. Her cathedral veil added the perfect touch of drama. For the reception, she changed into a dazzling sequin gown that shimmered under the lights, embodying the joy and excitement of the night.

The wedding’s theme, jungle disco, was a bold and vibrant reflection of Sammi and Cameron’s fun-loving spirits. The Jaxson was filled with lush greenery, bright exotic flowers, and disco balls, creating an atmosphere of lively celebration. Sammi had encouraged her guests to embrace bold colors, prints, and textures, and they didn’t disappoint. “Our guests really showed up!” she says, recalling the kaleidoscope of outfits that filled the venue. The night was filled with laughter, dancing, and unforgettable moments, including a hilarious second line that introduced many of their guests to New Orleans’ unique traditions.

One of the most touching aspects of the evening was the “guest book”—a vintage phone that guests could use to leave voicemails for the newlyweds.

These messages became a cherished keepsake, preserving the love and joy of the day in a way that felt deeply personal and heartfelt.

Sammi and Cameron’s wedding was not just a celebration of their love but a testament to their creativity and the deep connections they share with their friends and family. From the champagne girl to the after-party at Pat O’Brien’s, every detail was carefully crafted to create an experience that was uniquely theirs. As they embark on their life together in Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., Sammi and Cameron carry with them the memories of a wedding that was as extraordinary as the love that brought them together.
